Jeff Koinange Leaves K24

TV journalist Jeff Koinange popular for his talk-show, “Capital Talk” and the father of the slogan, ALL KENYAN, ALL THE TIME is leaving Mediamax’s K24.

According to grapevine, Jeff is headed to South Africa to assume the role of a top anchor and reporter at a new television station, Arise Television Network. Arise Television Network is an off-shoot of Arise Magazine, a subsidiary of THISDAY. Arise Television Network will broadcast live news and information on Africa to viewers in major cities of the world.

Back in September there were rumours that Jeff had been offered a million dollar contract to leave K24 and set base in either South Africa or London and that he would be making close to Ksh.80 million a year at his new base, at the new TV network.

Jeff’s show, “Capital Talk”, lifted K24’s profile greatly and his departure might end that great run.

Could ‘my city my town’ be the most lavish video done by Kenyan artistes? Take a look

Prezzo and Cannibal have just outdone themselves this time. The have surpassed the standards they themselves set for the Kenyan music video. The bar is now by far much higher.

Most Kenyan artistes try to go all extravagant in the video, putting all the glamour in one location. Actually, most happen in the studio.

But these guys, Prezzo and Cannibal, I knew something extremely hot and lavish would be coming our way as soon as they announced their partnership, which could by the way, be history as we speak. But that is a story for another article.

So, when Prezzo and Cannibal were planning to do this video, I am sure the budget wasn’t child’s play. I mean, just take a look at this video. Shot in different and lavish locations, from Nairobi to Mombasa, topping it off on God D*#m yacht!

I take my hats off. I am yet to see other Kenyan artistes try this.

Xtatic Collabo’s with South African Rappers for Her Hottest Single Yet

The video for Xtatic’s second single since her Sony signing is out already, a day after the trailer was released online.

In Hit ‘Em Up, Xtatic features South African rap superstar, AKA and new kid on the block, Priddy Ugly. The punchy, fast-paced, hard-hitting track was produced by South Africa’s The Fahrenheitz. The track follows up on Xtatic’s pre-signing debut, Wild.

Matt Stonier, who was also behind the lens on Wild shot Hit ‘Em Up. This time, he uses more locations and cuts a lot more faster in the aptly paced black and white video. Check it out below.

Attitude to release his new video in two days

Attitude has been holding down his musical hustle for some side businesses but he is back now, and he is going hard on his new album.

The States based Kenyan rapper will be releasing his new album cover and track list in two days and along with it comes the release of his new video.

As much as he has kept us waiting, the anticipation should be no more for in two days, his video for the track ‘Green light’ featuring Scott Free will be dropping.

As he describes, this will be one of the hottest videos that he has ever done yet. I for one just can’t wait. Better, I can’t wait for him to get back to his homeland and make things happen, just like the prodigal son, Bamboo.

Now that Jamhuri Day is over, let’s head to the after party

Kenyans just love to party, don’t we. All we need is a legit and reasonable reason and we are good to go. Actually, scratch that ‘reasonable’ part. We just need a reason to get it on.

What better reason to party this weekend than a Jamhuri Day After Party celebration? After all, I don’t think we really let ourselves go since we had to report back to work the next day. Come on, you know this is good.

The Jamhuri Day After Party will be happening at Petma Restaurant today (14th of December 2012). On the decks will be DJ Soxxy, Celeb and Sanch, holding it down for you all night long.

Lots of activities will be going down at the party including some dancing lessons, karaoke, poetry blending into the weekly Band Friday, and Oldschool Fridays.

Entrance is just Sh. 200.

And Now, Nairobi Half Life Inspires a Music Video

If anything, you would expect Nairobi Half Life to inspire better filmmaking in the country and the maybe the tackling much deeper issues in film. The multi-award winning film has now also inspired a music video.

Jeraw’s Live It Up video was inspired by the crime flick that has already been screened around Africa, Europe, North and South America. In his video, he uses some clips from the film and even similar shots in the rooftop scene.

In Live It Up, Jeraw raps about life, haters, moving on and triumph over challenges, which kind of fits with the film’s theme. The track was produced by Gibbs Entertainment and Dume+Kike Ltd and the video directed by VJ One. Check out Live It Up below.

Man Ingwe is back with a Christmas Carol (video)

Despite his busy schedule, Gospel singer, Man Ingwe, took time off his campaign for the Kakamega County seat to release the video for his Christmas jam, “Happy Nolia” few days ago.

Though the video is a year late, it still manages to capture the attention of its audience especially now that the festive season is upon us. Typical of Man Ingwe, his videos never fall short of bringing the viewer some comic relief; and “Happy Nolia” is not anything different.

Action starts at the Machakos “airport” where Man Ingwe emerges dressed as santa and chants “happy nolia” and a crowd answers back “happy nolia” in unison. He then boards a Kakamega-bound bus and breaks into a song and dance in the bus as the other passengers join in. Basically, “happy nolia” means happy when you eat. The video culminates in Kakamega when Man Ingwe gets to his village.

Check out Man Ingwe’s video below and have a Merry Christmas and happy nolia;

Gospel artiste Denno to launch his album this Sunday. You are invited

He touched people’s heart when he first stepped out to the mainstream music scene and since then, fans have always had a soft spot for this soft spoken singer.

Denno got everyone’s attention with his collaborative track with Daddy Owen, ‘Mbona’ which was speaking out for the disabled in the world. His efforts were able to materialise through a project that he has been working on alongside Daddy Owen, Miss Karun among other artistes.

This Sunday (16th of December 2012), Denno will be launching his album titled ‘Naona Mbali’. That parabolic title is by far the best I have ever heard from a Kenyan artiste. There is so much more to that title than it just spells out. Deep stuff.

Jamaica’s Duane Stephenson coming to Kenya, alongside Jah Cure

Shortly after the sad new about the postponement of Jah Cure’s second concert at the Nyayo Stadium, some good news just hit us.

Jah Cure will be coming back to Kenya on the 16th of February 2013 with one of the most loved (locally and internationally) reggae artiste, a reggae icon and peace ambassador, Duane Stephenson.

I won’t even pretend. I’m so excited like you wouldn’t believe. A concert where the two performers are among the biggest in their genre, on one stage, for the same cause, PEACE. I’m loving this.

Duane Stephenson will be joining Jah Cure at the Nyayo National Stadium on the 16th February 2013, as part of Jah Cure’s World Cry Peace Concert.

More details will be coming your way shortly.

The second Jah Cure concert that was to be held at the Nyayo Stadium postponed

For those who missed the initial Jah Cure concert for his World Cry Peace Tour, I know you were all excited about getting another chance to witness this magnificent husky voiced artiste perform, but I am afraid some bad news are in order.

The second Jah Cure concert that was to be held at the Nyayo National Stadium on the 16th of December has been postponed. i think it has something to do with the schedule of Jah Cure’s tour but wait, don’t put up your long faces yet.

Despite the concert being postponed all the way to the 16th of February 2013, there is much good news to come with it. Jah Cure will be coming back to Kenya with an entourage of great Jamaican reggae artistes and this is going to be big.

Keep it Ghafla for the line-up of artistes to come.

Q-tasi releases his new hot and sexy video, ‘stilettos’

When Q-tasi decamped from Calif Records, he promised his fans that he was going to show them just what real music is and judging from his latest works, boy wasn’t fronting.

From the vocals, video quality down to the choreography, everything in Q-tasi’s new track is just on point. I’m not saying he made an awesome move by moving from Calif, but he did say he’d show us why he moved right? Could this be it. Quality of music, video and every other type of production that goes down in making music?

Q-Tasi’s ‘stilettos’ track is nothing less of hot and sexy. There is no going wrong when working with Enos Olik and this video and all the others that he has worked on proves it all.

Check out ‘stilettos’ video below and tell us what you think about Q-tasi’s new work.

Smirnoff to host the biggest new year’s eve party in Nairobi, with 16 international artistes

I think it goes without saying that Smirnoff throws some of the biggest and most lavish parties ever. If you disagree, then clearly you have never attended one.

This new year’s eve, Smirnoff is planning to do it big once again in Nairobi with the event, ‘The Night’. This time, they will be doing something no one else has ever tried.

The Smirnoff Experience will be bringing together 16 of the biggest international and local deejays to one venue, Carnivore (of-course), but on three different stages, in what may just as well be dubbed the biggest new year’s party ever held in Nairobi. This right here should be the revellers’ heaven. Bliss!

Photo Gallery: Erykah Badu’s concert at the Carnivore

The Tusker Lite Experience with Erykah Badu went down on the 13th of December and words just can’t describe what this diva had to offer to her fans.

I think photos would do the best in illustrating how epic the show was. Erykah Badu held it down for her fans and left no one unsatisfied.

Check out the photos of the event as seen by the Tusker Lite Experience crew.

Politician wants to buy Ringtone’s song, ‘Jubilation’ for his campaign

Everyone’s putting on their game face. It’s about that time when every move counts and being a step ahead is all you can rely on.

Have you heard Ringtone’s latest song, ‘jubilation’? Of-course you have. It’s only the most played gospel tune right now, especially at church functions. I’m not much of a gospel music enthusiast, but judging by the love this song is getting from fans, it is obviously a big tune.

So big that politicians are now lining up to buy it. I’m talking about millions of shilling being put down on Ringtone’s table on negotiation. Though Ringtone is still giving these offers much thought, the names of the politicians that want to purchase this song for their campaign have not been presented to us.

Whoever the politician is, he/she must be one confident aspirant. To want to spend an obscene amount of money on a song with lyrics that go like, “tribulation, tumeshinda… TUMESHINDA” before getting to elections, man, he ain’t playing around.

Larry Asego’s Touching Jamhuri Day Letter to His Neighbour

As Kenya turned 49 years and marked the beginning of a “Jubilee Year” yesterday, Kenyans were full of hope that things will brighten up. Classic 105’s presenter and comedian Larry Asego was not left behind in reminding his “neighbor” (you and me) about certain things that we didn’t know about the freedom that we enjoy. Here’s his letter;

UNSUNG HEROINE OF THIS NATION

Asked who their hero is, a certain class 4 child said superman, another said Spiderman and yet another said ironman. Every day I meet people I consider heroes and yet nobody bothers to introduce these people to our kids. This country needs to shift focus on who we call heroes. We are in urgent need of heroes for our kids to emulate. The only issue is that the heroes are there, but we have refused to see.

On Saturday I had the pleasure of meeting such heroes who were more of celebrating than mourning the life of one of the greatest women this country will ever have.

At the age of 92, Mama Esther Nduta Kore passed on and she is to lie to rest on this Wednesday morning at her home in banana. This might sound like just another name to most of us but it shouldn’t. She is one of the country’s unsung heroes of our time and it will take a long time before we find another as humble and as patriotic as her.

Mama Nduta, as she is so fondly referred to by those close to her, was among those who one night in 1952 said, “tomorrow we go to war against the mzungu.” Being part of the mau mau war council, she was in the storm centre of the revolution that and ensured we got independence. She played a key role in the revolution. She was in charge of acquisition of arms and dissemination of information as well as inducting followers to the course. This was a woman who was involved in numerous high speed car chases while on her missions acquiring arms. How many of us knew that.

According to Gitu Wa Kahenyi, the chairman of the mau mau veterans association, “the role of the women was equal to that of the men. She and other women were right up there with us in the forest, fighting, cooking for men, carrying guns for us. So when people say women should get a third of the seats in power, they don’t know what they are talking about, women should get 50% of seats because they did half the work.”
Mama Nduta led from the front, pioneering the setting up of Kikuyu Central Association and after this was banned by the colonialists, she later on, together with James Gichuru and others, set up KAU.

For her troubles Mama Nduta was arrested and detained together with her husband, who also deserves recognition for the work he did for this country. In fact so feared was Mr. Kore by the white man that he was detained in solitary confinement in Manda Island.
Sharing a prison cell with Mama Ngina Kenyatta, she kept her spirits up and continued to fight for freedom. She was detained in kamiti prison then later moved to Hola. For a woman who was condemned to face the hang man’s noose four times in her life, her spirit didn’t fade; even after her husband didn’t make it out of Manda Island alive, she continued fighting for this country. She went ahead to be elected KANU chairperson of Kiambu; the days when KANU was the party representing freedom from the white man. She was nominated councilor of Kiambaa County council and she served in this position for 10years, always in the fore front of development projects; water, health, bursary funds, land settlement. Together with the likes of Jane Kiano, they set up the Maendeleo ya wanawake movement and consequently represented Kenyan women in Beijing.

Cucu, as all the kids in her home area call her, was heavily involved in the demarcation of our country’s borders travelling to all corners of the country and earning the respect and recognition of both President Kenyatta and President Moi.
She loved kids; anybody at her door step was never turned away. Her humble home has hosted from the very poor and destitute to the high and mighty in society. She never demanded attention or gains for all she did for this country, but hers was a life of selflessness

“She’s a true Shujaa. It’s because of her that we are here” says the Chairperson of the Mau mau association Gitu Wa Kahenyi who is scheduled to present the mau mau case in the UK on the 10th January 2011.

Gitu Wa kahenyi, speaking on behalf of all the veterans present, says that contrary to popular belief the mau mau was not just a Kikuyu movement. Every single Kenyan shared the same fate and grief and had their own “mau mau” movement where they were; mekatilili, Koitalel just to mention a few. “Among the 11 who died in Hola, was a Turkana and maasai freedom fighter. “Mama Nduta didn’t fight for the Kikuyus, she fought for Kenya.”
Mr. Wamuti, who was also detained in Manda Island together with Jomo Kenyatta says that Mama Nduta has done so much that if we were to say it all it would take a week to recount, but all we ask as veterans is that the story be told for the benefit of our children and their children. What we enjoy today is greatly thanks to people like Mama Esther Nduta Kore and all the veterans who have been ignored for so long. Even if we don’t get the recognition, then let our kids hear the story so that they don’t forget where they have come from.

“If the likes of Mama Nduta hadn’t decided to go to war on that morning of 1952, then who knows, maybe the white man would still be walking on us like tarmac on the roads. From Namanga to Moyale, from Indian Ocean to Busia, we opted to die for you and it’s a pity that everybody is narrowing it down to a kikuyu outfit,” says Kahenyi.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mama Nduta a few months ago before she passed on and one thing that I remember to date is her saying, “we gave you this country in one piece, what will you do with it?” I’ve never before felt so challenged like I felt that day. It’s a pity we only think of such heroes once a year.

During public celebrations you will spot the veterans wearing their medals given a back seat while politicians whose contribution to this nation is empty talk take centre stage. Never once have I seen Mama Nduta been invited to the podium for Kenyans to celebrate her, but in her own words, “let our children not forget.”

So the next time you spot an old man bent over a cane, walking in the streets proudly displaying medals on his coat and eager to share his experiences, know that if it wasn’t for such people then it would have been up to us, and if you look around you, do you honestly believe that the person next to you would be up to the task?
This time around, I hope we will all start celebrating the great works our heroes have done. I would personally like to say “Thank you,” to Mama Esther Nduta Kore for what she has done for me, for this country and for Kenyans. I challenge you to do the same.
May the Almighty God rest her soul in peace.

Kenrazy Back With A Sure Hit! A Scorcher Of A Track!

The first time we heard of this lad, it was off his debut track “Ti-Chi” which took the country by storm.

After that, he took a hiatus to pursue a degree and to be honest, though he has had countless awesome songs, they just didn’t seem to click with his audience. But no more!

Kenrazy is back with a track that is sure to put hair on your chest then rip it off just to get you standing and moving. The track features a new Kenrazy. Don’t get me wrong, he is still his hardworking self and he still delivers punchline after punchline, but he has decided to experiment with a different technique of delivering and even the instrumentals are different.

The rapper raps about different scenarios and people who are frauds, the player playing games with women, the lass trying to sleep her way to fame and the government. The track is called “Kura Burndem” and i would advice any local music to listen to it. That’s how confident i am that the track is a hit!

Rufftone Has Children’s Interests at Heart (Photos)

While most of you decided to just chill at home or even get wasted yesterday, Gospel singer Rufftone had something special for a group of children in Naivasha. As a special gift for Jamhuri Day, Rufftone treated the kids to a thrilling performance and even did his new jam featuring MOG, “Confusion”, to much delight of the children. Take a look;

Could This Be The Best Video Director In Kenya?

I was watching Prezzo’s new video which i must say is just the definition of too sick! when i found myself wondering who directed it.

My brother and i took wagers. I told him it was a Kenyan and he said that no Kenyan can make such an awesome video… I know that sounds harsh but just look at the track record Kenyan video directors have…
And sure enough, it was a Kenyan. J Blessings to be exact.
And just who is this Kenyan called J. Blessing i found me self asking. Well, as it turns out, i have seen him at work making a video for Rabbit. Mhmm!
Well, J. Blessing started out as an exclusively Christian music video director but i think he realised that for him to get recognition he would have to share the gift he’s been blessed with the rest of the world.
And share it he has. Have you seen the clarity of the vision he puts out through his videos? Check out Rabbit’s “Adisia” for a better understanding of what i mean.
Then his coup de grace, Prezzo’s “My City, My Town”. He has managed to transform Nairobi -Uhuru Gardens to be precise from a chill spot for youngins parking lot pimping to an example of cultural beauty what with the monuments and whatnot. The scenes flow seamlessly from one cut scene to the next and even when Cannibal sings about Mombasa, you can’t tell the scene is about to change because there are no cheesy stalling techniques employed. You get to see the beach in a whole new light devoid of the beach bums like you would at Sarova White Sands.

The only other video director i think who is in this cadre with J. Blessing is A. Macharia. The lad that did Camp Mulla’s “All I Know Is Swagger” and Kanja’s “Paradise” Maybe there’s hope for Kenya yet!

Cannibal Dumps Prezzo

Mombasa’s rap music guru, Cannibal, has called it quits with Prezzo’s Makini Music Group (MMG). Cannibal joined just when it had been formed and has been a member since.

Monday, the rapper posted on his timeline saying that he’s going back to doing music as a solo artiste and that his work with the Makini Music Group was done. “My work in makini music is done so am back to my Gansta sh*t now bless”, posted the rapper.

It’s not yet clear why Cannibal has parted ways with Prezzo as efforts from his fans to try to make him explain his action were futile as he remained tight-lipped about the matter. Cannibal and Prezzo were tight and not only did music together but at one time the two were rumoured to be joining politics. Cannibal was also instrumental in drumming support for Prezzo when he was in Big Brother’s House mobilizing Kenyans to vote for him.

Meanwhile Cannibal is set to release the official video of his song, “Ma City Ma Town” tomorrow (14the December) at Visa Place, Rongai. He’s also expected to perform during the event.

P-Unit And Collo Release A Trailer For You Guy

The much anticipated P-Unit and Collo video to you guy is finally upon us…

Well, almost. The lads have decided to whet our appetites with a teaser and from the looks of it, the video will be a break from the monotony that has been Kenyan music videos.
The video has a bevy of Kenyan beauties (have i ever told you how beautiful Kenyan girls are?) lined up in different garb and i must confess that i wouldn’t mind going toe-to-toe for a round or toe with the lass in the boxing getup… Even if i end up pulling a Manny Pacquiao… As long as she joins me.
But enough jibber jabber, here the teaser is:
