Who Thought Money Lover & Sitolia Could Not Be Fused Into One Song?

Let’s admit it, never in your wildest thoughts did you ever imagine that Sauti Sol’s magnificent track “Money Lover” could be blended with “Sitolia” by Willy Paul and Gloria Muliro, right? Well, it’s possible and the great rendition is out.

A super-talented beneficiary, Fess, of Sauti Academy, an initiative of Penya Africa music label, have done an acoustic mash up of Money Lover and Sitolia and the execution can only be described as the stroke of genius. One thing that stands out about Fess, is his exceptional voice that he greatly utilizes in this mash up.

Though the falsetto is a bit extended, these guys are daring and original because they believe in their unmatched talent. Check out the song below;

BBA’s Malonza’s Small Sis Has Such Amazing Vocals! Check Out this Video

Ladies and gentlemen, the video you are about to view has a simple setting. The video is shot at a music studio at Sauti Academy. The song is sung to a guitar… nothing simple just an awesome voice and acoustic back up.

The thing i love most about this track isn’t the lasses stellar vocals nor the fancy fingered lad strumming the guitar; nay, it’s the message. The song is called “Ahadi Ahadi” and addresses the political atmosphere of the day as Kenyans await results of the general elections.

The lass doesn’t need any distractions going on in the background because her vocals are enough to carry your attention and keep you entertained. I can’t overstate just how talented the lass is. But perhaps you should listen to the track for yourselves. By all means, enjoy!

Top Kenyan Rapper Addresses Incoming President.

Not many hiphop heads recognize the name Joseph Wambua but drop the name Jemedari, and recognition quickly permeates their faces.

That is the kind of subtle influence this conscious rapper wields, reflected aptly in his new no holds barred offering ‘Letter to the president’. It’s his third video after competition, produced by Voodoo and whose video was directed by Keith Oleng of AF Presents, and uliza uambiwe. The song’s first and second verse are in lilting coastal swahili, and the third verse is delivered in English.

{youtube}3xrSOSey46w{/youtube}

The first time I heard ‘barua kwa rais’ at a rehearsal, it dispelled the rumour among singers that most rappers can’t carry a tune to save their lives. Jemedari can sing and he laments about “police killings, murders and drug dealings, IDPs living in rooms with no ceilings, mps rolling in millis with no feelings… teachers, doctors striking for more pay, yet money gets wasted everyday, these things happen as you get your way…excuse me I’m talking to you mr president”
The catchy yet poignant chorus reflects the demoralizing reality that a lot of Kenyans face.

The video is simple, black and white and whose plot shows Jemedari as a revolutionary of sorts, a prophet of his people. Point blank Evumbi characterizes the powers that be. Another interesting part of the cast is Zosi, a singer in her own right who doubles as Jemedari’s background vocalist in many of his shows.
Jemedari describes his style as fusion hiphop, as he has increasingly performed with a live band bringing vibrancy to a genre that is laden with playback performances. Jemedari, visionary and genuine to the core, began music by taking part in several rap battles both in Nairobi and Nakuru where he hails from.
His end game is to start a mentorship program, through which talented youth with no avenue can make their talent work for them. This is through guidance by those who have already carved a niche for themselves in the entertainment industry.

He recently launched his mixtape, read about it here. Check out his pages ‘Letters to the president’ and ‘Jemedari Flows’ to connect with this game changer. Something you may not be aware of about this talented fella, he successfully juggles music, web production and online reputation management for several companies including MediaMax Networks and until recently, Martha Karua.

CNN Stands Firm on The Kenyan Story

Five days ago, CNN made a damning report about residents of Rift Valley arming themselves ahead of anticipated post-poll violence and the Kenyan Government quickly dismissed the story saying that it had been stage managed.

However, CNN was quick to refute the allegations and stood by its reporting and declined to reveal its sources after the Government asked the reporter (Nima Elbagir) who filed the report to do so. Yesterday, the international media house issued a statement on the same maintaining that theirs was a genuine story. Take a look;

“CNN absolutely denies any allegation that our correspondent Nima Elbagir’s report on militia in Kenya’s Rift Valley was in any way ‘stage managed’.

“Given that the potential threat of violence around the election has been well documented by Human Rights Watch and the Kenyan Police it was entirely appropriate that the actions of local Kikuyu militia were scrutinised. We stand by our decision to report this story and have taken great care to place it in context. We will not reveal our sources on this or any story and strongly resist any attempt to force us to do so.

“We will continue with balanced and accurate reporting of these important elections. This coverage has directly referenced peace rallies in Kenya and includes interviews with Kenyan political figures and satirists, a look at the hopes of Kenyan children for the future, a view of political street art, and several other pieces – on TV and online – that illustrate all sides of the election picture.”

Dela’s unveiling

Only divas go by mononyms because they have carved a niche for themselves and Dela is no exception.

She recently released a peace song, and collaborated with Juliani on Voter vs vulture, and tonight she returns to the Choices Baricho road stage for a performance that promises to be all kinds of amazing. Not many vocalists accomplished or not can hold their own against Dela, but before you thinking I’m tooting her horn too much, listen to weche tek.

{youtube}yNRkinzrIR8{/youtube}

According to her Bio, her love for music blossomed at the tender age of seven when her gift was stirred in church. In school, she continued singing and was an active member of the choir. That set the stage for her to become a recording artist. While studying architecture at the University of Nairobi, she met Dan “Chizi” Aceda, and  became his background vocalist, the proverbial baptism of fire for her.   Her maiden musical foray venture was a collaboration with Sauti Sol on their hit-single “Mama Papa” which features on both their debut albums.

dela_1.jpg

In late 2009 Penya Africa released Paukwa; a collection of stories told by “The Voice”, a nickname Dela was given because of her amazingly sultry and versatile voice. The other person I’ve heard called the voice was Whitney, so maybe that calls attention to the greatness that is Dela. Her highly acclaimed single Ulivyo, received considerable airplay on and features Emukule in the video.
Currently Dela is working on new material and she recently recorded a video for her new single Weche Tek, which was released in August 2012. It was written and produced by Enos Olik.

Catch her tonight and be blown away.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: George Ndirangu, Fashion Mogul, CEO and Founder of 2die4

Everyone’s trying to break into the buzzing fashion industry. It used to be that (when I was younger) everyone wanted to be a teacher, doctor, policeman, journalist. But there has been a massive shift in aspirations. Every young person can count a style icon, fashion editor, designer, stylist or model as one of their inspirational figures in their life.

I got the chance to sit down with CEO and founder of 2die4, George Ndirangu, to ind out what exactly it takes to make it in this cutthroat industry.

So what exactly is 2die4? It is a fashion hub, that kicked off in 2011. You may recognise them from styling some of your favourite celebrities – Avril, Brenda Wairimu, socialite Lola Hannigan,- participating in fashion events, detailed and themed photoshoots, spreads, and fashion-oriented ventures, but still have a lot more to cover. With its recently relaunched and revamped website, as the number one fashion hub, and fashion directory. Their aim? To make Kenya, and Africa as a whole, a fashion capital reckoned by other fashion capitals in the world.

What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion is a lifestyle, a way of life. For example, it’s disrespectful to show up to a meeting or a date, not looking exceptionally good or presentable.

Which modern day fashion designers/icons do you look up to?
Locally it has to be the two guys behind Blackbird Jeans. One minute you’re laughing and chatting with them about random things at Skylux, the next minute they’re showcasing at New York Fashion Week.
Internationally….Michael Kors.

Its a well known fact that the fashion industry is a tough business to break into, what was your big break?
My big break came when Silvia Njoki, put me in the newspapers about 2 years ago as someone to watch out for. Months later, we were on Str8 up launching 2die4’s website courtesy of Namtero Mdee and Mugoya. The rest is mostly affiliation, persistence, and striving to be 3 steps ahead….always!

Seshi 6Where do you get your inspiration?
God, family, and friends who constantly tell me “Nice one George, really nice…but you’re not there yet!”

How would you define the style your work exemplifies?
It’s simply 2DIE4. 🙂

How would you define your PERSONAL style?
Trendy and appropriate.

If you could pick 3 fashion must-haves that every man should own, what would they be?
Nice cologne, nice phone and nice watch.

What’s a great fashion tip that you can share with Ghafla! readers?
It’s been said…a dress should be tight enough to show that you’re a woman, but loose enough to show that you’re a lady.
For men…know your colours, know your body. Fitting clothes might not be appropriate if you’re bulky, baggy clothes might not be appropriate if you’re lean.

Tell us some of the standout shoots you have worked with so far:
Avril Nyambura, The Violent Lips shoot, Ephy Saint, Hanako Takaishi, Ida Østby Nielsen (S.T.L’s stylist), Brenda Wairimu, Joe Makeni, Sharon (Dj. Norah), The Swagsons, Lola Hannigan, Mutua Matheka, Ben Kiruthi, Leon Muli, Isabella Gomes, John Telewa (Inhouse Entertainment), Sitawa, Closet 49, just to mention a few.

Hanako 3

Jules 4

You are affiliated to some celebrities including Frankie (Kenyan Stylista). What are some of their must-have items for the upcoming Kenyan-Summer season?
Button down floral shirts. Bright denim shorts. Club master optical glasses.

What’s one new style every man should try?
The chequered blazer.

What would be your advice to men starting out in the fashion industry?
Don’t force things to look good or turn out well. Ease into it. Do your best, let your work and God do the rest.

How do you see your career evolve in the near future?
Right now I’m really psyched about the comprehensive fashion website 2die4.co.ke which was relaunched on January 19th > Fashion tv, which I’m also very involved in right now >Fashion magazine > fashion apps for gadgets and devices > fashion store fashion line > an all round fashion hub… (Laughs) Baby steps, baby steps.

What’s the most important lesson that life has taught you?
Always remember where you came from, and the people who were with you on your way to the top.

Oh and I almost forgot: Are you single?
(Laughs) I thought I had avoided that question! But it always has to come up!

So are you?
Ya’ll are too persistent! I pride myself on keeping my personal life private. I prefer to keep the focus on my work, keep it professional. Hope that answers your question.

Not really, but I guess it will have to do!

Celebs come to Kisite marine park’s rescue

It’s very encouraging when celebs with considerable clout decide to use their influence for a great cause.

While the country is all the rage about politics and elections, something grave is happening right under our noses.

Kisite Mpunguti marine park was secretly put up for sale in a very controversial move that has managed to evade the country’s attention. Ki who? Kisite is a marine park of unparalleled beauty along the Kenyan coast, popular with tourists from around the globe. As you all know, Tourism is the third highest foreign currency earner for the country. The Kisite Marine ecosystem covers a marine area with four small islands surrounded by coral-reefs.

Among those passionately spearheading the #savekisite campaign on twitter are Radio Africa’s Marcus Olang and Mutua Matheka, famed photographer and blogger. Also lending his voice to this campaign is none other than Chiwawa. To sign the petition, please follow this link.

It’s Finally Wednesday And That Means That Changes’ Platinum Thursday Is Finally Tomorrow

It’s finally Wednesday. The 5th day of this long weekend. You know what i’m saying! But away from that. Kenyans have been peaceful and patient and you should treat yourself for showing that level of maturity and proving CNN wrong.

And the best place to do that is at Changes Pub in Westlands where the grown and sexy meet up every week. Changes is where the party will be at this Thursday. You will be able chill out, relax, listen to good music and more importantly, dance to good tunes being spun by the pied piper himself Kaytrix the Entertainer.

You can read about how epic a night it was last weeke by clicking this link here. Or you could check out the awesome offers they have by clicking this link. Either way, nothing says party like Platinum Thursday. And don’t just take dede’s word for it, check it out for yourself.

This is how Soul Acoustics Xpressions went down last friday

The name Mumala Maloba may not raise eyebrows until you hear this girl sang. That was no typo, when you scale up the vocal prowess levels, you become a sanger.

Friday Ist March was the day and Ethiopian dass restaurant was the place to be and boy was I stocked about attending Soulful acoustic Xpressions. The show slated for 8.00 pm began a bit late owing to technical hitches, but that was quickly resolved before the show took off on a gasp-inducing tangent. First on stage was Trina Mungai, and my oh my isn’t this gorgeous girl a breath of fresh air. She was followed by Prisca Ojwang’, a very talented vocalist and Sauti academy alumni. Now if you haven’t heard of Sauti Academy, it’s the music school run by Penya Africa, home to greats ala Sauti Sol, Dela, Stan among others.
Two other sauti academy alumni and vocalists extraordinaire Wangui Githu and Dempsey Omwenga both set the stage ablaze, with a musical skill rarely seen in Nairobi. Where are these people hiding?

Last but definately not least, was Mumala herself taking to the stage backed by Trina and Prisca, as well Alano sucre on bass, Kimachia on percussions and Greg on acoustic guitar, a formidable musical trio.
With every song and every breath, she painted a backdrop of heartbreak and painful heart stabs, that had become the soundtrack of her formative years as a teenager falling in love.

{youtube}hLGV7jzX0UU{/youtube}

For an hour nonstop, Mumala wowed us with her range and vocal prowess, backed by her equally talented background vocalists. At eleven pm sadly, the show was over or so we thought! Jenny Muigai, former KTN’s The Apprentice contestant and the night’s Emcee decided to throw an awesome spanner in the works. First trick up her sleeve, calling Fena Gitu on stage. Taken aback by the sudden turn of events, Fena reservedly obliged, got on stage, consulted with the make shift band and in a few moments had the club singing along to Africa Massive. This was rehearsed we all whispered!

Clearly Jenny was on a roll, and next up was the amazing June Gachui! Now if you haven’t heard this lady sing, you have been deprived of Kenya’s most hidden treasures. Feigning intoxication, she joked that she was a bit tipsy so wasn’t up to the task. An amazing actress this one but mafans walisema ndio! She decided to consult with the make shift band and what ensued was music streaming down from the heavens.
She delivered a power-packed renditon of En Vogue’s don’t let go before calling Mumala back on stage to back her as she sang Asa’s Bibanke. The eardrum shattering screams that greeted the end of her performance was testimony to the greatness of that moment.

Mumala performed in the March edition of Blankets and wines.

Why Kenyans Will Never Win a Continental Award!

Ladies and gentlemen, i dare say that Kenya will never win a single intercontintinental award show. It’s not for lack of merit or talent but merely due to the tyranny of numbers.

I want us to focus on the DJ Awards that have been launched and you can read more about that here. But with that said, when you tell Africans to vote, who will they vote for? It shan’t be DJ Joe Mfalme who obviously deserves to win, it will be for their own. And when Nigeria is in the arens, the end has already been scripted. Think not? Then what happened at CHOMVA? At the Channel O Music Video Awards Davido dominated the awards ceremony yet Camp Mulla was a huge force in Africa last year. They owned last year!

Don’t get me wrong, the rest of Africa has talented Vynil spin masters but Kenya has the best. I’ve been in Nigeria. All you hear is Naija. I don’t mind. Actually, i think Kenya should embrace more of the West. In South Africa all they play is Kwaito. But Kenyan DJs are versatile. They play anything and incorporate everything smoothly into their sets. From house to hip hop to Naija to Kwaito to 25Flow!

But sadly, when you ask the viewers to vote they will vote for their own so the best in Africa will not be recognised.

Jaguar Now Having Private Meetings With Uhuru Kenyatta and Mike Sonko

Jaguar has recently been making moves in politics.

Last year, he was seen on multiple occasions getting cozy with Mike Sonko, and the Makadara MP even went as far as to appear in Jaguar’s music video as a shoe shiner!

Now during this year’s National elections, Jaguar has been seen hovering in the background at multiple TNA rallies and events. When he was asked what he was doing there, he preferred to sit on the fence. Now Jaguar seems to be slowly climbing through the political ranks of the TNA party. Just yesterday, he had a private dinner meeting with presidential aspirant Uhuru Kenyatta and Senatorial aspirant Mike Sonko at China Centre along Nairobi’s Ngong road.

The details on what was being discussed are fuzzy, but what we can say with certainty is that the TNA party recognize Jaguar’s power and influence with the youth. He was the first artist they approached to perform at their roadshows, and they have paid him hundreds of thousands of shillings to participate in their campaigns.

Sage is at it again!

I’m a big believer in omens and the universe speaking in subtle or loud hints! Immediately I thought of posting about Sage, her song began playing at One FM. Signs.

If you don’t know who Sage is by now and you consider yourself an aficionado of local music, you need your card revoked. She blew up earlier this year when she collaborated with Octopizzo on her debut club banger ‘So Alive’, undoubtedly one of the best songs to be unveiled this year.

The first time I heard “I dream of a sky where the lights never die down, I’m awake in my sleep and i’m falling to the ground…” in that amazing lower register that soars effortlessly an octave higher in the chorus, I knew this was a certified hit.
She recently posted an unplugged version of the song, that allows you to savour her voice in it’s unadulterated form. The video is courtesy of Blackman’s latest offering ‘Live on the Nairobi sessions’, weekly youtube videos. This girl’s dulcet tones are nothing short of velvety, if you’re unconvinced watch the video here.

{youtube}KhLl_wKLll0{/youtube}

A few facts about Sage: She’s 25, plays both guitar and piano by ear, and is a member of three bands namely Le Tortue, Jazz Girls and ministry of love. Her first real stint as a musician, was her singing background vocals for Muthoni DQ of blankets for three years, where she rose up the ranks to play keyboard for her before branching out on her own.

Her first gig this year was at Choices Thursdays in January, see pictures here if you missed the event. Keep your eyes peeled for more Sage snippets.

Waititu’s Opulent Castle Featured In Jay A’s New Video

While watching Jay A’s track “Pledge My Love” which features Anto Neosoul, one can’t help but notice the castle in the background. the video is based on some fairy tale role play with a princess falling inlove with a courtier as the prince looks on.

So it’s only fitting that they have a castle in the background right? There is luxury and then there is opulence. This castle is opulent! But back in the hood i see this trend and i don’t understand it. People especially oyibos (muzungu) in Spring Valley love to name their houses. And this castle is no different. The castle is called “Tafaria Castle”.

It’s located in Deighton Downs at the foot of the Abadere Ranges overlooking the Laikipia Plains. The castle is 40 miles from Nyeri if you’re travelling towards Nyahururu or 24 miles from Nyahururu when you’re travelling eastwards towards Nyeri. It belongs to a prominent Nairobi businessman named George Waititu.

Check out photos of the castle:

{youtube}Kl2jss27ZL0{/youtube}

His two videos Ivo Ivo and Swag featuring Amina (the sexy presenter beefing with Bamboo’s brother) of Homeboys Radio are currently at 79K and  51k views respectfully.
His spirited efforts seem to have borne fruits in the past as this is no mean feat in a nation that mostly watches music videos on TV. We wonder if that has translated to revenue.l

Octo was recently involved in an online brawl that resulted in Khaligraph Jones issuing a statement asking him to desist from dissing him using a fake account. Read the story here.

How DNG Made Over 10 Million Shillings During The Elections

DNG is one enigmatic entertainer. Trying to predict what this guys is going to do next is like trying to predict the weather:

Just take a look at how the guy has been getting saved, backsliding, then getting saved again. Recently, he even shaved his dreadlocks and went for a more ‘professional’ look. Now it seems like he made that hair move in order to get corporate clients for his event organising company: 254 entertainment.

That bet seems to have paid off, as he was given a HUGE contract by the Jubilee coalition to handle most of their roadshows, outdoor events, and social media promotions via his Facebook and Twitter handles. The figures we are hearing in the events community is that he was paid eight figures for the project(meaning, above 10million). This makes sense, as he was awarded the contract mid-last year, shortly after the TNA party was formed.

This would make DNG the big ‘winner’ of the elections, as far as entertainers are concerned. Congrats to him and his 254 entertainment company.

Madharau Mirfat Reportedly Suicidal!

Word just filtering in seems to indicate that Madharau Mirfat is on suicide watch suffering from depression. For those of you not in the know, Mirfat is the lass from episode 12 of Tujuane, the dating show on KTN.

The lass that talked down at her date because he was hustling his way up in life. She was rather derogatory and nasty to the lad constantly berating and putting him down.

But Kenyans were swift with their vengeance and the lass has now suffered more than just public humiliation. it is said that she has suffered psychologically retreating indoors and hiding away from Kenya’s media glare and social media. But there doesn’t to be any respite in sight for the lass as just this morning i wrote about how the diaspora had responded to her and while it was real, it was harsh.

Tujuane Comes Out In Defence Of Mirfat. Asks People To Leave Her Alone.

My source for this piece is Vibeweekly which claims to have spoken to her friends who intimated that she might try to harm herself. Yet another dramatic twist to this saga after Mirfat claimed that the show is scripted and fake as the two people on a date are asked to act out a role. Tujuane then came out and rubbished the claims leaving Mirfat with egg on her face. Then a Kenyan wrote her a scathing open letter that you can read here.

Grab your popcorn, get comfortable and read Ghafla for more information as this story unfolds.

Dennis Itumbi Finally Admits That He Was Part Of Uhuru Kenyatta’s Campaign Team

Last week, the blogosphere was rife with speculation about whether controversial blogger Dennis Itumbi was campaigning for the Jubilee team.

The speculations were ignited by Robert Alai’s bile-filled blog post which accused Itumbi of spreading propaganda aimed at pitting the Luos against the Luhyas. Since it was a hate-filled blog post, I won’t link to it. If you must read it, use Google to find it.

Whether Alai’s claims were true or not was up in the air, as Alai is the sort of guy to hit out at Samuel Kivuitu immediately after he dies. Anyway, Itumbi came out to put the rumors to rest. In a statement, he clearly stated that he was campaigning for Uhuru Kenyatta all along. Here is what Itumbi said on his Facebook page:

“Hi all,

We thank the Social Media fraternity in Kenya , bloggers and general internet users for making the Jubilee Presidential Candidate Uhuru Kenyatta’s Facebook page the most popular in Kenya. At the moment (time of sending this mail), the likes stand at 423,337, and rising every second.

We wish to assure Kenyan bloggers that when the Jubilee Coalition wins the 2013 elections on Monday, the new government will mainstream Social Media in governance and administration.

“Ours is not just a pledge–we have used social media in the past. As Minister for Finance, we compiled the budget together through twitter. And during the compilation of our manifesto you (bloggers) played a big part in that important initiative”,noted Uhuru.

Thank You .

God Bless Kenya.

Jubilee Presidential Campaign Team.”

Kenzo Vows To Stop Having Sex

Kenzo has been in a fix lately.

He has been rumored to be in a relationship with a certain socialite, but has since come out in a radio interview with Ghetto Radio to say that they are just friends. Now Kenzo tells us that he has been having trouble finding the right woman. He is known for singing songs that worship the female form, but now Kenzo says that in real life, these Kenyan women can be tricky and many of them are not trustworthy.

Because of this, Kenzo has decided to go celibate. Initially, he wanted to go without sex for the election period, but after thinking about it twice, he has decided that he will go without relations till he finds that right girl for him, who he can trust 100%.

What do the Kenzo fans think about this? Will Kenzo hold out, or is he just talking big? Leave your interesting or creative responses in the comment section below:

Mwanaisha Chidzuga and Cecilia Mwangi’s Husband Loses Governor Bid

Danson Mungatana is a well-known polygamist.

Among his conquests are Cecilia Mwangi, a top model and actor, who admitted to being his second wife. There is also TV anchor Mwanaisha Chidzuga, who is understood to be Mungatana’s baby mama. Danson Mungatana was looking to be the Governor of Tana River county in the 2013 Kenyan elections, but he was defeated.

Here is how the numbers tallied at the end of the race:

Tana River County Gubernatorial Results

Hussein Dado 7,255

Adam Dhidha 4,560

Danson Mungatana 4,045

Mandara Barisa 2,647

Since Mungatana has also been reported to be having some financial difficulties in the past, the question now remains, how will he finance his expensive lifestyle now?

Vera And Her Booty Frolick On The Beach (PHOTOS)

Vera Sidika, aka Vee S Beiby, has shot to fame in recent months.

She was the main star of the ‘You Guy’ video, and her ‘buxom behind’ got the video banned for unknown reasons. Since then, she has appeared in numerous interviews which have attempted to get to know who is behind that behind. She even said she named her booty. Last week, she was in accused of being in a small beef with fellow socialite Huddah Monroe, which she quickly denied shortly after. She is also a plus-size model, and her photoshoots have got tongues wagging all over Nairobi. Here are photos of her latest travels, where she went to the sunny beaches of Tanzania on holiday:

Off for a spot of sailboarding

Guess that sailboarding thing didn’t quite work out

Here’s Vera with a lady called Tamu, who we understand is ‘Tanzania’s Kim Kardashian.’

Here they are again at the afterparty. Representing the African backsides. The white girl puts a valiant attempt at matching it, but is not quite there really

This Is One Of Kenya’s Finest Songstresses Gives Us A Tour Of Behind the Scenes Of Her Video Shoot (PHOTOS INCLUDED)

Adam Wagwau and i attended this nightingale’s song release party. Adam being a rather artistic guy, was impressed by more than Darcq’s vocals. He loved her video. Me being me, the simple individual that i am, was impressed by her vocals and stunning looks.

Then Adam compiled a list of the tracks that were simply amazing or sublime or both. Naturally, she featured. and you can find out more about that list by clicking this link to the article. Anyway, all in all, the lady with the powerful voice is now working on a brand new video and we have the photos of what went on behind the scenes. Enjoy.

Maina Kageni vs Juliani: Who carries the day?

The media is rife with stories that people are not going to work because they are awaiting results, and the economy is suffering for it. Following the historic elections on Monday, Nairobi was virtually a ghost town save for a few restaurants that were open to cater to patrons that chose to come to town.

Maina Kageni decided to take a swipe at this phenomena by asking on his Facebook page ‘Today Mwalimu and I are shocked! Kwani hamuendi kazini? Hata traffic iko nyweee mteremko. Why are you still at home?? Aki mutafutwa kazi nyinyi… seriously! Kwani what excuse do you have? You voted on Monday and today is Wednesday. Na hakuna noma mahali. So why are you not at work??
Talk to me!” Maina clearly knows what he’s talking about, read about how he makes his miilions.

Have you guys gone to work? If not, what are you doing at home and bills don’t sort themselves out?

Juliani and these seven artistes worked overnight translating horrific PEV stories into this song (video)

Meanwhile Juliani is of a different opinion altogether. His stance on this matter was summarized by tweets like “dismissn others concerns eti lets go 2 work biz as usual after march 4th, I didn’t want things 2 remain the same thats y I went out 2 vote,” and “U say “i don’t care who bcomes prezo, want 2 go bck 2 work, what of the majority o Kenyans who have no work 2 go 2.”

He however explained that he’s not advocating for people to abscond work, just that in his opinion the people who are home are being ‘vigilant’ owing to concerns they may have about the election results. He threw a spanner in the works by saying that a lot of guys are unemployed altogether. Juliani was part of an initiative where seven artists spent the whole night in an effort to capture PEV stories in song.

Kind reminder guys, IEBC has upto seven days to anounce results, as provided for in the constitution. Go back to work!

Female music producer chased by sexually charged mad man

It’s not everyday that you wake up to such surreal Face book updates considering the uproar that rape attracts in Kenya.

This morning, Ghetto Radio’s music producer Liz Njuguna stunned her face book fans by reporting that she was followed by a crazy man sticking out his member with a condom on. This is what her status said:

“Got chased by a crazy guy holding out his penis that had a condom on while heading to work….seriously how is it possible that i attract so many crazy folks??”

Crazy or not, who expects to encounter such madness so early in the day? This story comes hot in the heels of the viral Kenyan woman video of Adelle Onyango last month explaining her rape ordeal that took place at the age of nineteen.

{youtube}sPM2APktiXY{/youtube}

While Liz has downplayed the story and the ensuing comments by her facebook friends have a humour tone to them, it still shows how unsafe these streets can be if you don’t pay attention.

Ladies, has this ever happened to you? Seems like there’s an upsurge of mad men in Nairobi, maybe owing to rampant drug abuse. All the same I urge all you queens to be on the look out for sexual predators who could possibly be posing as ‘madmen’, your future depends on it. Whilst it’s hard to pick out potential attackers owing to the statistics out there that show people are usually sexually assualted by people they are close to, it’s still better to err on the side of caution. Avoid lonely lanes or walking alone at certain time sof the day.

Speaking of ghetto radio, remember last week we reported that they have broadened their target from the ‘sufferers’ to the upmarket youth in Nairobi with more disposable income and several spheres of influence. Read that story here incase you missed it.

One Fm Owner Alex Kosgey Wins Emgwen Parliamentary Seat!

Ladies and gentlemen, Tina Kagia’s boss is on his way to Parliarment. Alexander Kimutai Kigen Kosgey a.k.a Alex Kosgey or as he is popularly known as, Tina Kagia’s mdosi has clinched the Emgwen Parliamentary seat on an URP ticket.

Jeff Omondi, Ghafla’s number one ranked connoisseur on anything Jatelo oriented broke the news that he would be vying for the parliamentary seat and you can read how we carried the news here.  And this is in the backdrop of his father failing to clinch the gubernatorial seat he was pursuing. Seems to me that this is a case of political musical chairs as far as this family is revolved. The revolving doors have ejected the senior Kosgey and allowed Alex in.

This is the number of votes the Media Stream C.E.O received:

Emgwen constituency –  Alex Kosgey, URP. Those results are courtesy of Standard Digital.

I wonder what this new public office position Alex Kosgey has been voted into portends for his company Media Stream. Only time will tell. But from the rest of the Ghafla team and myself, congratulations!

Former BBA Contestant Wins County Rep Seat

In the election results that are streaming in, it has come to our attention that former BBA contestant Millicent Mugadi has emerged as the winner for County Rep for Ziwani.

Announcing the news on Twitter, Milicent said, “I have won my election. I am now your new County Ward Rep of Ziwani. Thank you.”

If you remember, Milicent during her time in the Big Brother house, was known for her overtly sexual behaviour, which one may have thought her political competitors might use against her. Being seen as a good Christian citizen is usually important to the Kenyan electorate, but it seems like Milicent overcame that small obstacle.

After BBA, Milicent dabbled in some Nollywood films before turning to politics eventually.

Part of her campaign strategy included cleaning up jiggers and turning a slum into a tourist attraction. Things though turned ugly later on in the campaign when she claimed that her life was in danger due to the stiff competition.

Congrats are now due from us to the new Ziwani County Rep.

The Diaspora Isn’t Done With Madharau Mirfat Just Yet! Here Is A Video Response To The Controversial Tujuane Episode!

Poor Madharau Mirfat! If you thought Kenyans were harsh on her, the diaspora is coming down on her like a ton of bricks! The internets don’t seem to be done with Mirfat.

You can actually see just how much of a global village we live in when Kenyans in the diaspora watch and comment on Kenyan TV shows and affairs thanks to Youtube and social media. All this after the lass came out to claim the show is fake. Read her allegations here. And this video comes from a Ghanaian in the diaspora who follows hot on the heels of a Kenyan who wrote an open letter to Mirfat that you can read here.

But enough about that. This video features a lad who is angry with Mirfat for her comments about George the hustler. She was putting George down for not being upto her standards. This lad hones in on that and has gone to town on the lass!

he talks about why she’s still single and talks about not just her expectations but her attitude. He goes in on her for saying that Techno is classy music. He actually correctly points out that classic music includes orchestra, jazz, Frank Sinatra’s music and Marvin Gaye’s brand of soul music.

this is a must watch for all of Kenya’s Nairobi girls who think ordering drinks they can’t pronounce is classy. Girls who think they are beautiful simply because they get hit on alot on Facebook. Girls who think they fart rainbows and unicorns and fairies simply because every estate bum is after them. This is a must watch. Check the video out below. But given the response to Madharau Mirfat’s episode on Tujuane, it’s not hard to understand why it’s the most viewed video of last week! Click here to read about that.

Changes Has Officially Made Thursday The New Friday!

Oprah Claimed that 40 is when life really begins. Others have claimed 30 is the new 20. i say all that is rubbish. At 40, you have responsibilities to your family. At 30 you’re starting your family life. Like i said, it’s all Rooobish!

But when i say that Changes has made Thursday the new Friday, i mean that everyone comes out to Changes. Not everyone though. The riffraff get kept at bay. Changes is where the grown and sexy are. Think of Changes as the Blankets and Wine of entertainment spots on Thursday.

Changes is the place to be seen at, even Baba Ghafla didn’t have an excuse not to come out this Thursday and have a blast he did! You can check out the photo gallery of that here. And recently, Kenya’s top celebrities have taken not of this fact and they are coming out to jam at Changes. Eric Omondi was out last Thursday and so was DJ Joe Mfalme and Kenya’s next big DJ -DJ Genius- whom you can read about by clicking here. Check these pics out:

Peter Kenneth’s Last Message. This Is An Inspiring Read

Peter Kenneth has issued his last rallying call to Kenyans of a similar viewpoint as his. Kenyans who aren’t afraid to break away from the mould and dare to dream of a changed Kenya. Kenyans who aren’t cowed by tribal lines and alliances.

And this is his message to those Kenyans:

“Over the last 18 months, I have been a campaigning all over Kenya for President. A vote for me on Monday will not be kutupa kura; It will be a vote for the change that Kenya deserves now and into the future. I’m counting on you, your family and friends so that together we can deliver victory. Please send this message to all the people in your phonebook and your personal friends. Let the grassroot revolution begin with you. VOTE PETER KENNETH FOR PRESIDENT ON MONDAY! Tunawesmake!”

And on Monday, let your voice be heard. Vote Peter Kenneth!

Check Out This Awesome A Capella Rendition of Just A Band’s Probably For Lovers

AnnieSoul was born and raised in Nairobi who performs as a vocalist and pianist but is also a songwriter and producer.

According to her Website, “she serves up her unique take on a Swahili (sometimes Luo)-laden, socially conscious neo-soul sound, doused in African rhythms, with just the right tinge of jazz (aka Afro Soul). Drawing on her experiences in Nairobi, and across the continent, AnnieSoul has come to embody the cosmopolitan and multicultural nature of her hometown.”

Last July, she became the first Kenyan to perform at the African Festival in Boston. She has racked up an enviable resume with a slew of covers made over the last one year, most of them a capella. From a tribute to Mercy Myra, her own rendition of the National Anthem, which was played on the Classic 105 breakfast show today, she has covered a wide variety of Kenyan compositions.

Today, we feature the cover she did for Just A Band’s Probably For Lovers off their Sorry For The Delay album. The track has previously been covered by Mumbi, check it out here. On Probably For Lovers, she says, “A new year is just as full of promise and mystery as a new love. My favourite Kenyan band, Just A Band, got back into this set so here’s to them.”

Check it out below.

Kenyan Music Icon Endorses Martha Karua

It’s just two days to elections but that does not mean it’s too late to declare support for your preferred presidential candidate. Already major celebs have made known their ideal presidential candidate and it seems more are coming out.

NARC presidential candidate Martha Karua’s has received a shot in the arm after music icon Eric Wainaina endorsed her for the presidency. In a recorded video message, Wainaina said that she will vote for Karua because Kenya needs a leader who is not corrupt like Karua, who has no scandals haunting her, and change how Kenya operates.

Wainaina also cites social democracy as one of Karua’s traits in the sense that she wants to set a government that takes care of the basic amenities that Kenyans direly need.

Check out the video HERE.

This is The Best Naswa Episode Ever

You all know the premier gotcha TV show, Naswa where unsuspecting public members are caught unaware on hidden cameras and deceived by being tricked or exposed to ridicule. If you haven’t been a victim, don’t worry your day is coming.

Anyhow, in this exclusive episode of the show, the pranksters, with the help of mean looking puffed up bouncers, randomly select unsuspicious male members of the public and force them to take part in a wedding with a lady they’ve never known. Action starts when the “groom” fails to show up, the “bride” is compelled to seek an alternative, and that’s where the bouncers come in handy.

Complete with a guy impersonating a pastor holding the wedding rings and the Bible on the other hand, the scenario looks so real (you should see the shock on the faces of some of guys being pranked). One of the victims was a high school guy who literally shed tears after being “forced into marriage”.

Jubilee Release Official Campaign Anthem

With just 2 days left to the much awaited General Polls, the Jubilee Coalition has released the video to their official anthem. Actually the song was performed live at the coalition’s manifesto launch.

Featuring all the coalition’s luminaries; Uhuru Kenyatta, William Ruto, NajibBalala and Charity Ngilu in the video, the song has been used in their campaign trail and also in their delegates meetings in the past few months as well in the latest TV commercials. The song was composed and performed by two budding artists; Visita& Elsie.

The track heaps praises on Uhuru and highlights the vision he has for the country which is also part of the coalition’s manifesto. Here’s the video;

Nonini Lands Another High-Flying Job

With a very successful music career then going ahead to land a leading role as the breakfast show presenter OneFM, Nonini went ahead to receive a whopping 1 million in royalties from the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) but it seems that was not the end of the road for him.

This week, the singer added yet another feather to his cap by being appointed to the board of directors for Performing Rights Organization of Kenya (PRISK). This may be seen as a reward for the singer/presenter who played a big role in resolving a simmering rift between deejays and musicians late last year. What followed were messages from fans and celebrities all congratulating him.

His appointment to the board prompted a flurry of congratulatory messages from fellow artists and fans who applauded him. On his part Nonini has this to say;

“I wanna take this opportunity to thank all theartist’s who came out for the PRISK (Performing Rights Organisation Of Kenya) Special AGM today and actually voted MgengeTrue into the Board of Directors! Artists should be involved in running copyright bodies because hakunamtuanaelewashidazamsaniikamamsanii! ”.

Renowned thespian and Tusker Project Fame judge Ian Mbugua was also appointed to the board on behalf of the actors.
