Remember Camp Mulla Announcing They Would Be Doing Solo Projects? Here Is One From K’Cous (Kus Ma)

Kenya’s musical equivalent of Kanye is upto his old antics yet again. Same script different cast if you will. The track is titled “How High” and i must say, i rather enjoy it.

The lyrical content is stellar even though the songs plot plays along familiar territory of getting high, girls and the finer things in life. You can’t knock the lyrics in this musical submission. They are if anything, one of the reasons i compare K’Cous to Kanye. The wordplay is mischievous without being irksome, the production is also another highlight of the track. But what would you expect from the lad who was behind most of Camp Mulla’s instrumentals?

The track samples Biggie Smalls track “Big Poppa” for the hook and loops the part where Biggie says, “…Money, *garden implements that rhyme with pores*, and clothes/ all a n*gg* knows…” and “…Living better now/ Gucci sweater now…” which i must say i think was nailed rather well given the songs subject matter.

The track which was produced by Marcus Kibukosya a.k.a K’Cous a.k.a Kus Ma who is one fifth of the Kenyan hiphop group Camp Mulla features Kanja who also goes in hard on his verse. The video was shot by Kevin Bosco Jnr who clearly had good cameras as part of his equipment given the colour clarity and seamless cut scenes even though the video was shot in just one location.

The video itself has Kus Ma, Myke Tuchi and Kanja along with a lass… I found myself wondering why there were no more video vixens to balance out the testosterone… But all in all, this is a good musical offering from K’Cous. I just wonder whether just like this other song about weed, this one will be aired on telly. Check it out below:

K24 Rebrands (Photo Gallery)

Now, they have rebranded and thanks to Ace of Eye-con Photography, I can share those pictures with you incase you missed this event. Feast thine eyes earthlings.

Heard Just A Band’s Matatizo? Now Listen To The Original Song.

I shared Just A Band’s video here last week. I’m hoping you watched that, if not, read about that here.

Well, if you didn’t know, that is actually a cover version a song done a decade or two ago. I’ll give you two videos, one of the original song, then the other of Blinky Bill explaining how he stumbled upon that song. Have a listen below, it’s by Issa Juma.

{youtube}1Rx2JA2S8dk{/youtube}

Now that you have read that, now listen to Blinky explain his journey with that song.

Holy Dave’s Charity Gig Raises 300,000 Ksh.

Last week, our site was awash with news from the Muthengi family. First we reported that Holy Dave has changed careers, that he is also employing, and that Joey had finally left Capital Fm’s Hits Not Homework.

Well, the mother of them all was the one about their dad narrowly escaping death, read about that here. Well Holy Dave a couple of moons ago, also launched a Charity and even held a Charity gig to raise cash for Thika School for the blind. I’d better let him narrate it in his own words, they are more compelling.

“I had a charity event at Braeside. It was the first major event for my foundation (David Muthengi Foundation – www.davidmuthengi.com). The Braeside primary school kids, were able to raise more than Ksh 300, 000 which we will purchase special learning materials for Thika School for the Blind and present them next term. I was joined by my boys ‘Kelele Takatifu’, ‘Jims n Dims’ dance group and ‘Ken the DJ’. I plan on partnering with schools and organizations to raise money for education since that’s what my foundation is about. Soon I’ll host an event with the aim of doubling the amount I helped raise.”

One of the most famous things Jesus said was give and it will come back to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over…or something along those words. It is laudable when a young man who could ape his peers or chase after vanity, chooses to use his gift to serve. Now that is cool. Read about his studio here.

Murfy’s Flaw On The Wrong Side Of The Law.

Even woken up and everything goes wrong, one after the other? They call that Murfy’s law, an epigram that states if something can go wrong, it will.

murf_1.jpg                                 murf_2.jpg

These too school for cool ‘kids’ call it Murfy’s flaw, because they can. Meet this alternative rock Kenyan band, that has just released their new song Aha from their album Hello Light. I talked to Njeri who’s the uber cool dreadlocked architect drum diva  and this is what she told me. ” as i said Aha is about that Aha moment when you realise you have been duped Director Kivu Rohorahonza had his aha moment when he had the song, and decided he wanted to do a video. Few phone calls later, and some emails were exchanged and that culminated in him flying over here from Rwanda and we had a video..”

{youtube}iwNBKMRUwuw{/youtube}

She continued to explain, “The song is a tongue in cheek vid. It’s about a promoter called Danny Boy, who rips off artists of their earnings..does not pay them their dues. The band kidnaps the perpetrator, and make him imagine all the nasty things they could to him. In typical Murfy’s style… At the end of the video however, he notices that they just wanted to use him for a video shoot for the same song denouncing him. No real harm comes to him though..”

Murfy’s flaw is made up of Reema (Vocals), No 9 (Lead Guitar/Vocals) Punky Monkey (Rhythm Guitar) Jojo (Keyboards/B.Vocals  Jozie (Bass) Vicky (Drums/B.Vocals)Kanvar (Mr Nice Guy who sometimes drums for us, and lets us use his garage for prax & video shoots). Rock heads, do you approve?

Churchill Unveils Jose Of Ni Kama Ndrama Ni Kama Vindio.

Antics aside, some people just skyrocket into fame thanks to social media and Kenyans’ ability to create conversations from the most mundane of things. This however, was not mediocre by any chance.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IBBVkzfLP5U/URFxKJtFS_I/AAAAAAAAQRs/_5-icB8HOcc/s1600/ndrama.PNG

Remember him? Jose the witnesser is now a household name, and soon to be a brand if his plans go well. When he was interviewed, it was clear the phrase “Ni kama ndrama ni kama vindio” was going to go viral and viral it went! It was inevitable, Kenya loves their shrubs and ridiculing is a national past time…seemingly. Trust Churchill to bring him to his show, it is currently the top trending topic in Kenya. Atleast Jose supports charity, he even plans to launch an album. Watch the video below.

Dads Can Cook is Back With A Hot New Host

After a period of searching for a host, with even a job vacancy announcement posted on job sites, Kenya’s premiere show that pulls away high and mighty CEOs and moguls away from their comfort zones of being in the office and takes them to task on their cooking skills in kitchen has found a new hostess.

After the exit of Nini Wacera, the show could not replace her immediately and so it was forced to take a short break after a successful first season and also to hunt for a new host. However, the show made a comeback on Sunday after getting a new host for its new season (Season 2).

Karaoke host Nimmoh Mukuria (above) is the new host for Dads Can Cook on Kiss TV. Nimmoh is artist and basically does anything pertaining to art; music and poetry and now she will be hosting a cooking show and she can’t wait to get on TV to find out what it holds.

She has hosted karaoke nights at Club Brown Bottle, Klub Image and Klub Zinc. Nimmoh hosted the show for the first time last Sunday where she had a diplomat on the show.

Be sure to catch her on Kiss TV every Sunday at 8PM.

KTN’s Investigative Journalist Attacked

On Friday night, KTN’s investigative journalist who concentrates on investigative and national security news, Dennis Onsarigo was attacked by gangsters as he left I&M Bank building where Standard Group offices are located.

Onsarigo is rumored to have been attacked with regard to his sensitive job. According to rumors going round he was attacked by a gang of 7-10 men for allegedly breaking the news about the Kenyatta University rampage where students attacked IEBC officials.

However, Onsarigo denied that the attack was work-related in a tweet a day after the incident. He also guaranteed that he was fine even though still in pain. “Am fine but in pain. I was attacked by a group of seven-ten men on banda street at around 11pm. Nothing to do with work,” tweeted Onsarigo.

Later that day, Onsarigo thanked everyone who sent him get well messages via twitter and confirmed that he was recovering well.

Maina Kageni Responds Bleakly To Clerics For Calling Him Out

Classic 105’s breakfast show host is known for addressing issues relationships issues that couples face and that has made his show so popular that it’s arguably the biggest breakfast show on Kenyan radio.

Now, today like it’s the norm Maina and his co-host Mwalimu King’ang’i were tackling a certain caller’s  relationship problem supporting her on the decision to separate with her man for mistreating her.  Mwalimu King’ang’i then interjected saying that what Maina said is the reason why a section of clerics called Maina a heathen.

This did not go down well with Maina who responded saying that the priests can go to hell. Here’s a transcription of the conversation;

Maina: Is that why priests are saying i’m an athiest

Mwalimu King’ang’i: Yes

Maina: Because i tell women who are abused by their husbands to leave?

Mwalimu King’ang’i: Yes

Maina: Then tell those priests they can all go to hell!

Maina has always advocated for women so much so that sometime last week his co-host Mwalimu King’ang’i teased him that Rachel Shebesh beat to the Women Rep. seat.

Esther Arunga’s Husband Quincy Timberlake Claims Kenyan Agents Are Pursuing Them Abroad!

I just received this from Quincy Timberlake himself. The man is claiming that his family is still being pursued by Kenyan agents out to do them harm. Read more to find out:

Government officials from the Kenya are sneaking into southeast Asian countries disguising themselves as refugees to track down on Quincy Timberlake and his wife Esther who has fled the country.

An officer with Kenya Human Rights Commission on Wednesday said that a number of Kenyan asylum seekers who had sought refuge in the Asia-Pacific had been attacked in Malaysia by unknown people.

Two months ago, Timberlake was kidnapped and tortured for three days before he was released in Malaysia.

However, a Kuala Lumpur OCPD said that the investigations were still underway but no suspect had been arrested.

Last year, a member of a ruthless police wing was arrested in a South Eastern Asian country where he had gone to seek refugee status, claiming that his life was in danger in Kenya while his real mission was to food poison Timberlake who is on the run. He later confessed that he was sent by his seniors to pursue Timberlake for holding credible information on the UN most wanted Rwandese fugitive hidden by the Kenyan government.

The arrested suspect allegedly killed Eddah Pacha, in Kisumu, Kenya. Eddah was Timberlake’s sister who was vocal against how her brother was being maltreated for courting Esther.

They were heading to Nakuru and along the way, they strangled her to death and the body dumped at Nyamasaria, near a temporary Army camp set up to “wipe” post election demonstrations.

After the death of Eddah, friends and family members of the suspects started threatening the family of the deceased, prompting the brother to go in to hiding and seek protection from UNHCR in Nairobi, as he remained to pursue justice. Unfortunately, the security personnel at the offices’ gates were attached to politicians. They sent him away.

Timberlake is believed to be holding crucial information of the most wanted Rwandese fugitive Felicien Kabuga. Kabuga is wanted for genocide in Rwanda which killed over 800,000 people. Kenyan officials are hiding the fugitive who was at one time Timberlake’s neighbor. He then reported the matter to the police about the whereabouts of the fugitive only to be tortured by the same government which promised hefty rewards of anyone with a lead information to his whereabouts. Since then, Timberlake and his family has been running up and down looking for safety. Their lives are in serious danger.

Some refugees also expressed fear that there could be similar state agents hiding in one of the refugee camps with a mission to murder Timberlake and his family.

What say you? Do you believe him?

Remember Zain Armstrong Kenya’s First Hearthrob? Where Is He Now?

I remember this lad -Zain Armstrong because to be honest, everyone was envious of him back when i was still in high school. He was voted the hunkiest teenie back in the day in some Insyder story and i remember that every lass was salivating at the thought of having him.

He was simply just that guy. Then, he was an actor on a show that used to air on KTN called “Better Days”. He was just hot real estate property then. He’d turn up at Blue Times or one of those clubs and the lasses would go crazy.

Then Pulse ran a story about him getting upto some indiscretions with some diplomat’s daughter in a loo and that to be honest was the last i ever heard about him. Until Saturday when i was having a chat with some lasses old enough to remember him and we all wondered what happened to him.

He never transitioned onto another show after the end of Better Days like i’d have expected. I wonder why. Maybe school was involved. Maybe he lost the passion. Who knows.

Wendy Kimani Boldly Declares, “Hush Up And Meet My Every Desire!”

Everytime I hear the song no romance without finance by Gwen Guthrie, the intro ‘what can you do for me’ makes my mind go on a time travel of sorts. Destination? Project Fame.

For me, that was the song where Wendy Kimani first brought it! Then she went on the down low after the house, only to re-emerge later with among other song  the ever green track rumour. I’m so in love with that jam! This singer by the way joined the monster radio crew last year. Read that here. Now this lady, is an alumni of Africa Nazarene university, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer science. Esh!

Well she’s back, and trust me to poke till her musical sides ooze the proverbial waters of life. Well in this case, the news of a new song. In her own words she said, “I wrote the song Hush Up and it was produced by Kanyeria. He did an awesome job giving it that sexy sound! The song is about that feeling of someone really completing you, being the ying to your yang, and just wanting them there with you and no being shy to say it :)”

wendy_2.jpg

Sigh, why don’t I ever fall head over heels in love like this and loose all inhibitions! This beautiful black butterfly is soulful ala Aretha Franklin, and she tells me that her video will be launched in a listening party very very soon. Yours trully shall gate crash if I have to, I’m not missing this for all the tea in China. Wendy by the way is done with her new album and it’s titled M.E. Narcissistic much you say? No, it’s an acronym for My Essence, and I must say her essence is enchanting!

I asked her where people can get her music and she told me that on her facebook page Wendy Kimani, there’s the MDUNDO app. Use that. What more can I say? Listen to the song below. This song again, was produced by Kanyeria, who I suspect is the only or one of the few Kenyan producers to have a wikipedia page. If you are a musician, he wants to work with you, find out how here.

This New Phone App Will Change The Social Scene in Kenya

Kenya’s main events and lifestyle media, Kenyabuzz, has just released a brand new phone application targeted towards people who want to know about  and actively participate in the rapidly growing social scene in Kenya.

Fittingly dubbed, ‘Kenyabuzz Raha’ with the slogan “fun at your fingertips”, the phone app gives its users the ability to:

·    Search events by city and area, date, or type of event including- art exhibitions, festivals/craft fairs, films, kids events, live music events, nightlife, photography, fashion, sports, theatre, dance, yoga/meditation, campus events and much more.
·    Check the movie listings by movie or theatre for all movie theatres throughout Kenya.
·    Search for restaurants by city, area, or cuisine.
·    Find other fun including bars and nightclubs, sightseeing spots, spas, casinos, recreation activities and other fun and interesting places in Kenya.

“This is just the first version of the app”, says the director of Kenyabuzz Alix Grubel, “it simply gives the user information.  But the next versions of the app will be interactive in the sense that they will allow people to check into the places, find their friends, make comments, review places, upload pictures and earn badges”.

The app, which can be downloaded free of charge by anyone with an android phone, is set to have a positive impact on the Kenyan social scene where previously it was difficult to get accurate and up-to-date information on the go.

Kenyabuzz Raha is available for download from www.kenyabuzz.com/raha or from the Google play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kenyabuzz&feature=search_result

Ulopa Ngoma’s Song Stand Up (Behind The Scene Photos)

One of the songs was by Ulopa featuring AshantyL and GB and it’s called Stand Up. This was the article, and below I get to share with you guys behind the scene pictures, because y’all are totally sold out on pictures.

The Bootiful Vera Sidika Removes Panties In Front Of Big Brother Judges

It seems the competition for Big Brother positions is steaming hot. Literally!

Big Brother auditions started recently, and they are now in the final stages of shortlisting contestants to participate. Vera was among the shortlisted competitors, and boy did she make her case solidly! Now this girl is well known for her overtly sexual persona, which has been demonstrated in the past by the fact that she has named her booty(find out why by clicking here). This makes her a prime target for Big Brother audiences, who eagerly anticipate things like seeing the female contestants naked during the Shower Hour.

According to eye witnesses at the auditions, Vera was dressed in a dress when she went in front of the judges. Shortly into the interview, she proceeded to bend over and remove her undergarments in full view of the judges, and the contestants who were waiting to go after her. Needless to say, the judges were very impressed by what they saw, and cheered Vera on every step of the way!

When I asked Vera why she did it, she said, “I was simply feeling hot, and so I decided to remove my panties. I mean, why should I have gone all the way to the toilet to remove them? I just decided to do it there, I don’t see anything wrong with that. I got a really good reception from the judges. They were really having a lot of fun during my whole audition.”

Vera is famous for having got P-Unit’s “You Guy” video banned from TV. Read about that story here.

PS: due to unforseen circumstances, this is the last story you will see about Vera on Ghafla! for a very long time.

Zuku To Sink 5Million Dollars Into It’s Expansion

According to standard digital, Pay TV service provider ZUKU which is DSTV’s main competitor albeit at quite some distance has moved to grow its market share with a 5 million dollar (393 million shillings) investment in a new satellite platform.

The aim of this investment is for it to give Zuku room to add more channels in a bid to diversify its product offering.

Zuku, the second largest Pay TV service provider by market share says the upgrade also gives it flexibility that currently is not available on its terrestrial network, guarantying faster market access.

I have no idea what the last part is about or why the writer had to use such complex terms but it’s all good. Watch the video of that interview with KTN here:

Nairobi Half Life Finally Makes It To American Theatres!

Last week I gave you the low down on the romance brewing at Phoenix Theatres, did you catch that?

If you didn’t, read that here. Now, Phoenix was a huge part of Nairobi Half Life, and finally imevuka border border! Jaguar dance anyone? I stumbled upon this update on Densu Moseti’s wall and and I started doing backflips in my head! “NAIROBI HALF LIFE will be getting a theatrical release in 46 cinemas in the USA on Thursday March 21st 2013….” My birthday has gotta be a special day I tell you, and no I’m not tryna solicitate for cake.

It continued to say “On March 21st 2013 NAIROBI HALF LIFE will screen in cinemas across the USA for one night only. Audiences at each venue will be asked to vote on whether the film should receive one week’s theatrical release at each participating cinema. If the majority vote ‘yes,’ then that film will return to that cinema for a week’s theatrical release. This is the first time, that a Kenyan film is getting this kind of exposure in the USA. We need your help to support this event, we need numbers! Spread the word…tell your mother, tell your lover! Lets get all the participating the cinemas packed and most importantly vote YES! to give thousands more the opportunity to see this amazing film.”

So there you have it, please call all your peoplez and ask them to phone their kith and kin. These guys have done a lot in putting Kenya on the global map, do your bit and ensure that NHL permeates the American film scene. This; this could be the the first of many more Kenyan films to show in Obama-land. Go ahead, call away!! Nairobi Half Life may have missed out on the Oscars, but that has in no way stopped the accolades from pouring in. Lets ensure that NHL maintains this amazing trajectory.

Here’s A List Of The American Cinemas Where Nairobi Half Life Will Be Screening plus Video.

Last week Mugambi Nthiga gave you advice on how to gather yourself after an audition, I’m hoping you read that because such titbits of wisdom go a long way in helping you securing your place. I’ll share the link to that in a while.

Check out Director Tosh Gitonga below holding the AFI Breakthrough award for Nairobi Half Life. Did you know that The New Yorker named him one of the most fascinating Africans of 2012.

Awesome huh? Now more on this unfolding story. NHL will be screened under the Feature Film Project, which is presented by MANHATTAN SHORT. The Feature Film project is designed to discover, market and promote one Feature Film through established cinema networks that otherwise might not have had the opportunity to find an audience, gain distribution and get discovered.

The video below is Mugambi Nthiga explaining on video what his project is all about. For a list of all the cinemas that NHL will be showing, please click on this link. Again, please spread the word!

For more information on this campaign, check out the NHL Facebook page for Nairobi Half Life, the twitter handle is @NHL_Movie and the hash tag is #NHLgoesUSA. Again, why am i ranting and raving about this, please read this awesome piece that I shared last week from Mugambi Nthiga.

Catch The Preview Of The Next Tujuane Show Here! Trust me, It’ll Be Just As Fire Filled As The Madharau Mirfat’s Episode!

Ladies and gentlemen, i’ve just come across the new trailer for this Friday’s “Tujuane” which is a dating show that tries to set up Kenyans looking for love -if love even exists. The show airs on KTN at 8pm sharp and it inadvertently discovered Kenya’s number 1 diva from South C Madharau Mirfat.

Anyway, in this friday’s show we will get to see a lad who i think is after mine heart tell a lass upfront that while he’s feeling her, he has a girlfriend tucked up snug somewhere. That is a real man! Men don’t run around playing games. This chap is really honest and open. I just hope his lass knows of his polygamous ambitions.

Then there is the idiot who brings up his date’s weave on their first date. Talk about a formula for being on Team Forever Alone! Never talk about a ladies hair unless you’re complimenting it you buffoon! That is Gentleman Etiquette 101!

Or maybe i should open a school where i educate Kenyan lads on how to win over the ladies like “omo smooth guy”!

Check out the trailer below:

CCK Attempting To Get DSTV To Share Some Of The Rights It Holds To EPL

If you are dating someone who doesn’t know what Gtv is, they are too young for you! She/He probably just learnt their ABCs and you think they are ready for the D/P. Shame. But if they do then this means you are probably one of the DSTV clientele who like me are longing for the good old days when DSTV had serious competition and had to slash their prices. These days they have a virtual monopoly. Then again that is just my opinion.

Well, take heart. CCK has taken up the good cause and are finally trying to negotiate with all the intrested parties to get some mature and fair competition going.

After Gtv went under, DSTv got back the lion’s share of the EPL rights and that granted them a virtual chokehold in the pay tv services industry. Yep, Multichoice has exclusive content from the EPL amongst other leagues.

And just so you understand how important football is over those soppy telenovella soap operas, the exclusive rights fuelled MultiChoice’s market dominance in Africa— including in Kenya.

The CCK and other industry rivals had demanded that MultiChoice share its exclusive content including the EPL. The CCK claims that similar content-sharing models have already proven successful in UK, Italy and oh looky here Baba Ghafla, Nigeria!

i for one hope something can come out of this. If it isn’t all just hot air, we the consumer stand to benefit. Read about the prices announced here.

Latest Condom Ad on Your TV Condemned By The Church

The Church in Kenya has always been vocal on issues that affect its believers and the public at large. A section of religious leaders have condemned the communications regulator (CCK) for failure to take action against a condom advert aired on national TV stations before prime time news.

According the Church leaders, the “Weka Condom Mpangoni” advert, intended to educate the public on the importance of condom use, is promoting immorality rather than playing its intended role. Bishop Julius Kalu of the Anglican Church of Kenya, Mombasa Diocese, said the advert openly agitated for extra-marital affairs and sex among school-going children.

In the ad which has been on TV for quite some time now, one of the ladies inquires about the other’s husband and then immediately seeks to find out how her mpango wa kando (clandestine sexual partner). The first lady then goes ahead to explain that even though her husband may be away, that does not mean that she miss out on “fun” since the other guy is readily available to provide it. The second lady then counsels her to always use condom whenever she’s having “fun” with her mpango wa kando.

A section of Christians are even arguing that the Weka Condom Mpangoni ad is against the word of God and also encourages adultery. They go ahead to pose what happened to “wives submit to your husbands” or “wacha mpango wa kando? Check the ad below and share your views;

This comes just months after Fresh Fri’s TV ad raised questions and had guys arguing whether it was the epitome of creativity or profanity.

Mercy Myra, Bamboo And Abbas Do A Tribute To E-Sir To Mark The 10 Year Anniversary Of His Death

10 years ago this past Saturday, Kenya lost a talented rapper to road carnage. That was a big blow to Kenya’s fledgling entertainment scene. The blow sent Kenya’s rap scene reeling and Kenyans mourning.

And last week tributes came a-pouring in and even our very own Kibali Moreithi wrote up his own trinbute to the Kenyan legend. And now these living Kenyan legends have come together to do their very own touching tribute to E-Sir. Bamboo, Mercy Myra and Abbas have constructed this wonderful musical, lyrical and harmonic tribute to the memory of the fallen Kenyan lyrical powerhouse.

Take a look at Abbas and Bamboo's Ghafla freestyle and shout-out

Check out the video below and leave a comment on what you think about this track. The track was recorded and mastered by Phoenix Records and i must commend them for a job well done.

And DSTV Announces The New Prices! Read More About Them Here And Why The Prices Have Been Increased!

MultiChoice Africa -the parent company of DStv- has finally increased the monthly fees of its services to cover in a move that they explained was to meet their rising costs and remain profitable. We reported on their intent a while back and you can read about that here.

Subscribers on the Premium bouquet will pay $82 (Sh6,998) up from $80 (Sh6,827) starting April 1 while those on Compact Plus will pay $52 (Sh4,438) from $50 (Sh4,267), which is essentially an increase of 4%.

The prices of its lower spectrum bouquets; “Family” and “Access” have however remained unchanged at $20 (Sh1,707) and $10 (Sh853.50) per month respectively. MultiChoice blamed the increase in prices to rising input costs.

“Increased costs in many of these areas of our business have made it necessary for the brand to raise the price of subscriptions,” said Danny Mucira, MultiChoice Kenya GM.

“These include satellite lease costs, channel costs, content cost, technical infrastructure and operational costs.”

The review of rates comes hot on the heels of DStv’s tightened grip on the Kenyan pay TV market which has been aided by exclusive content.

You can read what a Kenyan had to say to DSTV in what was a rather hilarious open letter.

Best African Short Film To be Screened At Lola Festival At Goethe.

The recently concluded Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards were full of pomp and colour as we reported here. More to that, two Kenyan shows XYZ and Lies That Bind emerged winners, and were widely celebrated. Read about XYZ here.

There seems to be one Kenyan entrant however, that has not been accorded the accolades and respect due. Yellow fever by Ng’endo Mukii was voted Best Short Film in Africa.

According to Lola screen festival, Ng’endo Mukii, shall be gracing the 64th monthly Lola Kenya Screen film forum on March 25, 2013 at 6.00PM. Besides the award-winning Yellow Fever, several of her other shorts shall be screened and discussed at Goethe-Institute.
Lola Kenya Screen Festival, is a specialised film screening, discussion and networking forum for practitioners in the eastern Africa audiovisual media sector. It is aimed at critiquing, encouraging and exploring ways of integrating film production in Kenya and eastern Africa with other socio-cultural and economic sectors in order to come up with a vibrant film industry.
LKSff is often one of the first places where new films can be seen and new talent spotted.

Ng’endo’s bio from thenge.com reads like poetry.

“On the ides of March, a creature with a fiery afro was born. Small in stature and withdrawn in nature, she led a reclusive life on the highlands of Kenya, overlooking the Savannah seas. Receiving her prymary education under the instruction of Catholic nuns, she left her home to experience the century’s super power. She later passed many moons, prancing in the queen’s country, nibbling on crumpets and seraching through. Today she can be found armed with a pressure sensitive stylus, and a macro lens. She spends her time between Nairobi and Tsavo, animating little children, photographing dung beetles and running away from scorpions.”

I think I’m in love. Please watch her here.

How Santa Fe Held It Down On Saturday! (PHOTO GALLERY)

I need a stunt double! I cannot keep up with this partying! It’s too much! All the pints, the parties, the beautiful women, the freshest parties in town, the freshest clothes… I can’t keep up! Even stunt men get tired. I have had way too much fun this past weekend. And Santa Fe are guilty for making me have too much fun!

But what can i say about this Santa Fe? It’s awesome. They have alot of space and an actual dedicated dancefloor. Santa has fast service and though i wasn’t there all night long, one thing i can say about Santa Fe’s resident deejay is that he is awesome! This chap DJ Fab really knows his stuff although he doesn’t know how to take a request.

With that said, here the photos are:

<We arrived alittle too early but the deejay was already at work>

‘He Speaks We Speak’ Project Finally Released.

Indulge me for a second, 11 Spoken-Word artists, 1 Singer, 1 Production House, 1 Message, 1 God, 1 Nation, 1 Peace, 1 Love. what would you expect?

That in a nutshell people is what ‘He Speaks, we speak’ is about. Pretty succint if you ask me! 18th March 2013 was selected as the day that the maiden offering from this project is released. This hails from the collaboration: The ‘Peace and Love’ Edition. This project touches on the peace that Kenyans crave. The write up Dann Mwangi (Number 8) sent me says “The peace Kenyans so desire, we believe, does not stand alone, it must be based on something greater, that it may stand the vagaries of differences. That they may be seen not as a mess, but as a beautiful collage. And for us, peace should be borne of love; when we love each other, we shall have authentic peace. And, we know, love is God…”

I don’t even think there’s need to add to that. The artists involved in the project are Nzilani, Mwende, BlackSkillz, Kamlesh, Nasara, Wallace, K9, SpeCfyd, Number8, Julie, Benjie. Molline Dove is the lady that lends her superb vocals to this rather awesome project. The piece was recorded and video shot by FullHouse Music.

Now incidentally FullHouse studios is owned by Holy Dave, we wrote about that last week, what a coincidence. The agenda for this project is seeking to walk in obedience by unashamedly speaking the Word of God (1 Peter 4:11). It just sounds deep. Listen to it below.

Dennis Itumbi Responds To Claims That He Owns The Daily Kenyan Post.

Everytime an article about Dennis Itumbi goes up, it is bound to raise dust like a whirlwind. This is a man who is thought by some to court controversy. I however shall not get drawn into that matter. First things first, happy birthday Dennis Itumbi, it’s only polite that I send good wishes.

Now, much has been said about The Daily Kenyan Post apparently, though I personally had never heard of it until today, honest truth. I’m told I live under a rock. Now apparently, the rumour mills have been rife with fodder Dennis Itumbi owns or atleast churns content for this post. He however took to his Facebook account to refute these unsubstantiated reports. Taking you back, you guys remember when Ghafla! shared the police transcript after his arrest sometimes last year? Read about that here.

In his own words he said, “Let me put it on the Record – I do not own, run or contribute any article to The Daily Kenyan Post, Neither do I hold any pseudo account, I say what i have to say through this forum(His facebook page), and other official handles, even when I comment on forums I use my names…..” Well there you have it, straight from the horse’s mouth. As you were.

He was recently accused of hacking into IEBC systems, that was discussed in length here.

Mbuvi Set For a Major Comeback.

I personally don’t know a song, that makes want to let my stiff self dance myself garment-less like David like kwata kawaya. The guitar riffs are sick and the tune is so catchy! I attended a wedding recently, where a member of adawnage was getting married and that song brought the house down!

Mbuvi has been MIA for a while, and so when a pal asked me to check out his Facebook page, it quickly dawned on me that the rebirth was nigh. He who gave you sweet ndwale, kivevelo, and nishike, is set for a major comeback with reports rife that he’s now signed to a label with links in Kenya, Europe and the greater Americas. Allow me to digress a bit koz I love intrigue, how well do you know Mbuvi?

I keep telling you musicians are bright people you guy! He has a a degree in Physics (Moi University), a masters in IT from the University of Sunderland, has worked in Commercial Bank of Africa. The intrigue unravels further. He has been a lecturer at JKUAT, hosted DStv’s The Day Show, as wel as being a radio presenter on Hope Fm. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get back to the new music matter at hand. Did you read about niwe nawe?

He said to me ‘I am now venturing into a new sound as far as my music is concerned. That’s what am calling V2. The LORD doing a new thing in and through me. I feel i need to change my sound to accomodate an even broader market. I feel there is more to my gifting and calling, than i have previously let on so I am compelled to do music in a way, that is inclusive of a worldwide market. I have teamed up with a management team that truly believes in my potential and we are already onto some productions.” His first release will be about celebrating and thanking God for the 50 years of Kenya’s independence. Its a song that will be in English and Swahili, embracing my newly acquired sound.

I asked him about his musical odyssey and this is what he shared with me. “I started out by chance really, just happened to know guys who sing in church, HIS IMAGE, and hooked up with them. In my church, Parklands Baptist, there happened to be this group called SHAMMAH, led by the now super producer, Robert Rkay Kamanzi. We became best buddies, and when my mum had passed on he helped me record a dedication song to my mum called Sweet Ndwale. Prior to that, I had written a song called Ukilya Moko, and sang it with the group Shammah. Thats how I got into music.” Quite a journey there pal!

My last question was what his mantra is and his answer not surprisingly was “My heart is Steadfast Oh Lord, I will sing and make music with all my soul..” And music he makes unrestrained. What more can I add except greater things are yet to come, greater things are yet to be done…

Photo of The Day: Kiss FM’s Carol Presents Football Legend with 1st Ever Birthday Cake

Yesterday, AFC Leopards AKA was playing in what was dubbed “the Western derby” against Western Stima and among those in attendance was Kenya’s football legend and ardent Ingwe fan Joe Kadenge.

Kadenge happened to be marking his 78th birthday and just to mark the event; Kiss FM’s football queen Carol Radull presented him with a cake decorated with the team colours, which happened to be his first ever on his birthday.

Size 8 Refutes Ever Campaigning For TNA

If you remember well, singer Size 8 was among the artists who performed during the culmination of TNA campaign rally at Uhuru Park and that, according to word on the street (aka Twitter), the singer had endorsed the party’s presidential flag bearer and current President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta.

However, in a dramatic turn of events, Size 8 has come out to set the record straight on her performance arguing that her appearance at the rally was totally blown out of proportion. Speaking to Heads Up, Size 8 said, “I was not campaigning for TNA as most people assumed. I had just gone there to request Uhuru and his team to sign a peace agreement for my peace campaigns.”

She also explained that she also met CORD’s Raila Odinga. “I also met Raila Odinga’s team but unfortunately the organisers were not willing to let me on stage,” said Size 8 adding, “I later learnt that Raila was not aware that I was around until the rally ended.”

Size 8 had partnered with Peace for Africa and Economic Development in her peace initiative and claims that she managed to get both politicians to sign the peace agreement.
