Unless you are a member of generation ‘Xema’, ‘Xweety’,’Qwendar’ or ‘Fwend’z you remember one Ken Walibora. He is the guy who wrote the prolific book Siku Njema and wrote the short story Mayai Waziri Wa Maradhi In the anthology with the same name.

David Rudisha Up for Role Model of the Year Award

The Mwafaka Awards take place on 1st September at the KICC from 1.00 p.m. One of the biggest awards they’re going to give out is Role Model of the Year.

One of the nominees in that category is one of the world’s greatest sportsmen, David Rudisha. The 800 metres world champion will go up against Rev Kathy Kiuna, Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore, Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko, soccer player Victor Wanyama and Pastor Andrew Young.

The 24-year old runner holds the world record in the 800 metres which he set at the 2012 Olympics in London. Besides that, he holds the three fastest times in history. Rudisha is also a three-time Track & Field Athlete of the Year, a distinction he only shares with American sprinting legend, Carl Lewis.

The runner’s achievements and humble nature despite great admiration from all around the world is one of the reasons he was nominated for the Mwafaka Awards. He is also one of the most inspirational role models for young people all over the world, having achieved so much at such a young age.

Thanks to a knee injury, Rudisha missed the World Championships in Moscow and will be out for most of the year. Regardless, his exploits on the track will not be forgotten, especially by his countrymen and they can find their own way to honour him: through the Mwafaka Awards.

Musician ‘Kills’ His Daughter For Money!

Get rich quick schemes seem to be the new fad,and people are willing to go to extremes for that quick buck. But how far is too far?

Well one Kenyan celebrity took it too far when he lied that his daughter had died and tricked people to contribute for the funeral.People took pity on the aggrieved man and contributed money for the daughter’s ‘funeral’

It is alleged that the artiste had initially announced on his Facebook page that his daughter had fallen ill,two days later he announced the demise  of his daughter quoting a Bible verse every now and then expressing how much he misses his deceased daughter. We are all aware that Kenyans are kind hearted people and a small harambee was held to raise money for the hospital bill and funeral bill.

On the burial day,his friends came together to attend the funeral,Maleek had said that he would be at Kisumu waiting for them.On arriving in Kisumu Maleek could not be reached so his friends went to visit his girlfriend’s house to inquire for directions as they assumed that the singer was too  preoccupied with mourning. His friends got the shock of their lives when they met the ‘dead’ child playing outside.

Realizing that they had been scammed, the angry  funeral  procession contacted the  ‘Kenya Burning’  star who profusely apologized blaming the usual scape goat, the Devil for his deeds.
It is alleged that the ‘Sina Beef’ artiste has declined to refund the 300,000 shillings to the people he had scammed.

another exciting Episode Of Young Rich Is Out And This Week They Brought On A 25 Year Old Millionaire!

i must say, I rather enjoy young rich. The show brings people on who have made their millions. And if anything, that is quite the incentive for me to keep on my grind. Especially Sunday’s episode.

They brought on one Tony Mwaura, the man behind the company that has given you most of Airtel’s ads. He is actually the main competitor for the company that makes the Faiba ads.

And he is a go getter and he is getting it and is now worth 20 million shillings at the age of 25! Kind of like what drake raps, “25 sitting on 25 mill!”

BBA Lovers Reunited -Angelo Still Goes For Beverly (Girl He Fingered) After Proposing to His Girlfriend!

It would seem the intrigues from Big Brother Africa aren’t about to end! Not with yobs like Angelo anyway. The yob who recently proposed to his girlfriend and she accepted -inspite of the fact that he had s3x (which was probably unprotected) with Nigeria’s Beverly.

And what did the yob do when he was at the BBA final? Well, he thanked his long suffering girlfriend by making yet another pass at Beverly.

Right after being evicted, Beverly’s went on the Live Eviction Stage and “her man” Angelo was awaiting, arms wide open. Confused, the Nigerian beauty turned around to see what the commotion behind her was about, she caught a glimpse of her dreadlocked man and ran straight into his arms.

I wonder how this particular relationship will play out.

Miss Karun Off To Start Her New Life In California!

Miss Karun left Kenya over the weekend for further studies in California. The lass who was a founding member of Camp Mulla recently released her album and the exclusive listening party was attended by His excellence President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The rather diminutive lass will be embarking on her new life experience as a student in an Art school where she is going to no doubt seek a deeper understanding, knowledge and appreciation of music… Perhaps as a sound engineer.

We at Ghafla wish her all the best in her endeavours. This is what she said on her Facebook page:

Photo Of The Day:Huddah Hangs Out With Bimp And Nando!

Huddah Monroe is not a new face in the Kenyan entertainment scene. She is arguably one of the most talked about Kenyans right now due to her antics, if she is not flashing her cash, she is flashing her body.

The Kenyan BBA rep 2013’s reputation has been marred by controversy and epic tweefs but she was somehow managed to soldier on.

After saying that she will not attend much to the chagrin of her fans,Huddah finally made i to the finale.Here is a photo of her hanging out with her former housemates;

Eric Omondi Accussed Of Not Paying His Bills!

I stumbled across an accusation being made by an American hotel and was rather shocked by the nature of the accusations given that Eric Omondi is not a little man in terms of financial might!

The DFW Airport Hotel & Conference Center has accused Eric Omondi of refusing to pay after issuing a bouncing cheque after his stay at their facilities. And they did this on a picture he had posted of himself with the former president of the Republic of Kenya.

This is what they had to say:

DFW Airport Hotel & Conference CenterHi i work at DFW AIRPORT HOTEL where your show was 7/7/13. I have been trying to get ahold of yall for the bounce check we received. The bank did say it was a fraud check. Charles Abungu and Mercy Ojwang were the ones who came in and set it up for you. Please be advise that we need the money for this show. I will post on ALL sites and follow where you will be going and contact all venues you will and appear at and have appeared at. BBA Update:Angelo Proposes!

It seems yesterday was just not Beverly Osu’s day.

She lost the 300,000 Us Dollars and if the Twitter grapevine is to be trusted ,Angelo has allegedly proposed to his real girlfriend Candice.Candice is the South African model who was alleged to be Angelo’s love interest before .

This is the photo doing rounds on Twitter:

proposal.jpg

An excited Candice Flashing Her Ring

One cannot help but wonder which game Angelo is playing as he had earlier said that his  relationship with Beverly was differnt now that he was out of the house. but seemed like he was willing to work on it sying ‘It is up to me and her to see where our relationship will go.I believe if we can work at  it,it can work.’

Unless Angelo has intentions of trying out polygamy,Beverly could be caught up in a vicious love triangle!

BBA Update: How Africa Helped Namibia’s Dillish Win the Coveted $300,000

Last night, curtains finally fell on this year’s Big Brother Africa stargame, The Chase, after 90 days of drama. The night saw Dillish from Namibia take home the coveted $300,000 (approximately KSH24 million).

For starters, Dillish owes East Africa, a consistent block voter in the series, for throwing its weight behind her and ensuring she effectively won the contest. With three points in her bag, Dillish got the support of Angola and of course her motherland, Namibia to scoop the top prize.

But just how did the gorgeous Namibian manage to beat other 27 contestants in a tight race where the winner takes it all? Here’s how Africa voted;

Angola: Dillish
Botswana: Cleo
Ghana: Elikem
Kenya: Dillish
Ethiopia: Beverly
Malawi: Cleo
Namibia: Dillish
Nigeria: Melvin
South Africa: Cleo
Sierra Leone: Elikem
Tanzania: Dillish
Uganda: Dillish
Zambia: Cleo
Zimbabwe: Elikem
Rest of Africa: Melvin

Total: Dillish = 5, Cleo = 4, Elikem = 3, Melvin = 2, Beverly = 1.

(Total: 15 Votes)

Congratulations to Dillish on winning The Chase.

BBA Update:Delicious Dillish Bags The Number One Spot!

Yesternight saw the end of yet another epic season of Big Brother Africa.Everyone was dressed to kill,Huddah in an awesome yellow dress,Pokello showing us why exactly she is the ‘it gir’l in Zimbambwe and Hakeem looking as fine as ever.

The housemate of the day however was one  Dillish Mathews .The girl dubbed the ‘barbie doll’ took home the coveted number one position.Cleo the petite Zambian rapper came in second,Elikem  the designer came in third,Melvin  the model fourth and the fifth position was taken by one Beverly Osu the video vixen!

Namibian Dillish was born in the country’s capital city, Windhoek. She is a third year psychology student who loves her sea food. The 22 year old was unpopular at the beginning with names such as pampered and lazy being used against her.

In a classic tale of the underdog rising to the top , Dillish  proved to be a force to reckon with winning herself  some expensive jewellery in an endurance task.Africa took notice of the young lady and voted overwhelmingly for her making her  the first Namibian to bag the coveted 300,000 Us Dollars.

Kunguru Goes on Crazy Demand!

A few years ago Kunguru reigned radio airwaves with his hits African Woman and Baby Don’t Go featuring Mr. Lenny, but somewhere along the way he took a hiatus. However, while most of us thought he had fizzled out of the music scene like other ‘founding fathers’ of urban music, the musician turned successful banker had a surprise for us!

In July, the husky-voiced artist announced his comeback by dropping a hot new jam, “Superstar”, featuring the enchanting Christine Apondi. He immediately followed that up with a video shoot for the single and is just about to drop it.

But before that, “Superstar” has been enjoying some massive airplay on local radio stations and as at last week, it was the top song on East Africa Radio’s “The Cruise top 9@9”. And now, the latest mdundo downloads indicate that the club-banger is the hottest song of the week.

Besides, for the last one month, the singer has been on a back-to-back interviews on radio stations like OneFM, Citizen Radio (Mambo Mseto) and the very latest being, Inooro FM, last Friday. He also performed at Diamond’s concert held at the KICC recently.

It’s now pretty much obvious that Kunguru is back to reclaim his position at “the table of men”. With his latest style; a mixture of benga and modern rap, which he says not many musicians are doing, Kunguru is confident that his music career is now being redefined.

You can download “Superstar” free of charge on mdundo HERE.

Robert Alai Calls Out Fast Rising Hip Hop Artiste Over His Accent!

Bloggers and artistes in Kenya  collide a lot ,more often than you think. We here at Ghafla have had our own share of drama and a couple of ‘pull down that article!’ rants, and even people coming to our faces saying they hate us.But that is all in a day’s work my people, all in a day’s work.

Anyhow, today one of the top Kenyan Bloggers Robert Alai aired his honest albeit mean opinion of top Kenyan rapper Khaligraph’s accent  something which Khaligraph did not take lying down:

Robert Alai ‏@RobertAlai Tell Kaligraph that he will never compete with Wizzy, Rick Ross and others on being American. He should stick to local accent and slangs

Khaligraph Jones ‏@khaligraph @lexxmontanah i bet @RobertAlai is just saying that cause he got 65k followers on twitter. dude should stick to his lane and cases

Robert Alai ‏@RobertAlai @khaligraph If you were a real professional artist, you would know that criticism is not hate. Since you don’t know, itakuchukua miaka ka 8.

Juliani then came in to give a sober opinion to his fellow rapper:

Juliani ‏@JulianiKenya @khaligraph yo gud @ what u do! Usimind. Ukila embe, choose kutoa or kukula maganda bt usi2pe embe nzima. @RobertAlai cn b wrong bt usipuuze.

Hmm..what do you guys think, was Robert’s advice valid or was it uncalled for?

Video: The Making of Safaricom’s Million-Dollar TV Ad

Kenya’s leading mobile network operator, Safaricom, does not rehearse when it comes to advertising; the telecom goes all out on spending. In 2008, Safaricom produced an awe inspiring TV ad, ‘Niko Na Safaricom’ that blew many away.

Fast forward to 2013, Safaricom again churned out another TV commercial, ‘Naweza Na Safaricom’ for its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibilty) program. Like in the first ad, Safaricom seems to have instructed its creative team to go out of its way to produce the best TV ad; and the result was breathtaking.

But just what went into putting it together? The making of the TVC saw the use of planes and three helicopters, similar to the previous TVC, an extensive cast, three helicopters and one of the best camera team in the world.

The new TV commercial was shot over picturesque scenery around Kenya, including farmland in Narumoro, Lake Michaelson on Mt. Kenya, Faza Island in Lamu and Congo Mosque along Diani Beach. This brings a familiar feel to the TV commercial (TVC) of the previous campaign,  “Niko na Safaricom”.

CEO, Bob Collymore however says the new TVC was cheaper than the previous, though he wouldn’t reveal the cost of the two commercials. The new campaign is expected to last for about two years, based on the way it resonates with customers.

Here’s how ‘Naweza Na Safaricom’ was made;

BBA Update:Angelo On The Fate Of His Relationship With Beverly After The Competition.

Angelo and Beverly have arguably been the most controversial couple of this year’s edition of Big Brother Africa mainly due to their infamous sexcapades.

Angelo got to ‘hit it’ in the bath tub for the first time and many times later in the show under the glare of the cameras! The video of their sexcapade went viral and Africa was up in arms chastising Beverly for the act.

Many wondered whether the relationship was serious or whether it was just as a way of staying relevant in the game.Their love story was cut short however when Angelo got booted out of the game last Sunday.

The Star newspaper caught up with Angelo so that he could dish on the relatonship with Beverly. The thirty Eight year old dancer said that their relationship was differnt now that Angelo was out of the house. adding that ‘It is up to me and her to see where our relationship will go.I believe if we can work at  it,it can work.’

Asked on who he hopes will take the prize money, the South African said that Melvin the gentleman has his blessings.

Photos from P-Unit’s Boneye’s Wedding

As earlier told, P-Unit’s Boneye secretly tied the knot over the weekend at a strictly invite-only wedding ceremony.

Boniface Chege said “I do” to the lovely Elizabeth Wangeci Kihura in an exquisite vintage wedding held at the Enashapai Resort and Spa Lodge, Naivasha last Saturday 17th August 2013.

The wedding which was attended by family and close friends of the couple begun with a ‘private “ church service at the pentagon – shaped Italian Catholic Chapel in Mai Mahiu before the close to 300 invited guests were treated to an exquisite 4 – course reception at the Enashapai Gardens.

Celebrities present at the wedding included other members of the P Unit trio Frasha and Gabu; longtime producer and friend of the trio Eric Musyoka of Decimal Records, Jaguar, Mongolo among others. Hellon and his Band provided the serenity deserved to mark the special day for the couple with their jazz performance at the church, while at the reception the duo of Jalango and Eric Omondi were a pleasant addition to the sumptuous buffet set, while DjNijo entertained guests at the evening party to the wee hours of the morning.

The nuptials between the couple come after a close to five years courtship that was cemented when Boneye proposed to his bride exactly one year ago at the same venue.

GHAFLA POLL RESULT: Who Would You Like To Win Big Brother Africa The Chase?

A few days ago I asked Kenyans whom they would want to see carry the day down in South Africa given that our Kenyan representatives were kicked out of the competition prematurely and i am surprised at the number of Kenyans who responded.

And they have indeed had their say and I can tell you that it would seem that if Kenya and Nigeria had their way, a Nigerian would carry the day: Melvin. But enough of my bush analysis of the statistics, let me just give them to you and let you interpret them for yourselves:

Kenyans Awfully Roast KTN’s Lindah Oguttu Following Boyfriend’s Arrest

It was rather unfortunate that KTN’s anchor Lindah Oguttu’s boyfriend was taken in for questioning on suspicion of carjacking and possession of stolen cars, allegations that the gentleman denied insisting he’s nothing close to that.

In the meantime, the streets (read Twitter), taking a break from the Tujuane vibe, have been alive with talk of the curvaceous TV news anchor as Kenyans in their characteristic brutality trolled Lindah from here to the moon.

Take a look;

@sickolia_: That guy should have hidden some of those cars in Linda ogutu’s hips.

@masaku_: So it’s a carjacker who taps Linda Ogutu and you engineers are just here complaining of dryspell

@JeffMaina: The Car In-front is Always Linda Ogutu

@kevoice_ Linda Ogutu be like, ‘Jesus take the wheel’

@sickolia_: Linda Ogutu’s guy just wanted to Impreza!

@barbzswits: KOT making my day…wana CARanga Linda Ogutu

@Kasambalive: linda ogutu’s fiance is that you >>> @ktnkenya: Get yourself a car that gives you value for your money

@Leshkip: Meanwhile CD to Linda Ogutu means Car Drive

@Likeswhisky: When it’s that time of the month for Linda Ogutu she Rolls Royces.

@masaku_: Linda ogutu be like “I don’t mind what he does for a living, Car-zi ni car-zi”

@acekimondo: #ItsOnlyInKenyaWhere Linda Ogutu doesn’t care the job the husband is doing CARzi ni CARzi

@NandwaRam: Linda Ogutu, s heaps dont lie or is it her fiancees parking bay which tells the truth.

@SpartakassErikk: Yes,I Just saw Linda Ogutu going for AUDItions.

@Reinhard_Asamo: LMAO ati hizo hips za Linda ogutu ni magari zimefichwa kwa panty

@RaySolixx: Its all fun and games until someone photoshops Nick Mutuma’s face with Linda Ogutu’s hippies.
