Plot Thickens: Artist Who ‘Killed’ His Daughter Also Started the Rumour about Fred Omondi’s HIV Status

It seems that Maleek a.k.a. Moses Kamunya Odhiambo, he who not long ago ‘killed off’ his young daughter on Facebook all for fame and money, has a knack for jumping from controversy to controversy.

Now if you remember well in April, Eric Omondi’s younger brother and fellow stand-up comedian, Fred Omondi was rumoured to be in a serial sexual relationships with different girls and that he was HIV positive, allegations that saw three of his shows, each worth 150,000, cancelled.

The rumours spread faster than bush fire prompting comedian Eric Omondi to come to the defence of his younger brother even as Fred fought to salvage his image which was rapidly getting blemished.

Well, Pulse reported that after a few days of investigation by the CID Fred was summoned and asked if he knows one Moses Odhiambo a.k.a. Maleek. Fred said he does know Maleek as a musician and one of his closest friends, whom Fred has been hosting in his house like a brother for years. They also went to the same secondary school— Kisumu Boys High School.

Apparently, Maleek was the rumour mill. He was arrested on Monday April 22 and placed in police custody for 3 days before finally deciding to spill the beans.

Maleek

While pleading to the two comedian brothers to pardon his distasteful acts, Maleek confessed in the presence of police officers at Nairobi’s Central Police Station saying that evil spirits had directed him to do so.

“I disguised myself as a groupie, claiming to have had a sexual relationship with Fred and then sent it to the Daily Post,” before adding,

“Frankly, I had no ill-motives and did not know these might ruin Fred’s career.”

According to the CID officer handling the case, it was a clear case of impersonation and Maleek would have also faced charges of libel.

“However, our hands were tied when Fred came and requested to withdraw the case on condition that Maleek admits publicly that he was the mastermind behind the scam.”

You can catch Fred Omondi at the iClub’s Comedy Night tonight which he hosts. Check out the details here.

K24 To Bring You Their Very Own Tujuane!

If the social media grapevine is anything to go by(read twitter) K24 could be launching its very own Tujuane show!

The media house which only about a month ago kicked its poached journalists out into the cold hard streets of Nairobi has already started airing the show’s promo.According to Nairobi Wire they even hosted the infamous Tujuane Primma Donna Happy Eda  Atieno this very morning!

As usual Kenyans on social media queried one Peter Opondo on the ingeniousness of the show as it was viewed as a replica of KTN’S Tujuane.Opondo candidly stated that K24 would launch a new dating show but  the ‘concepts are worlds apart’.

Here are selected tweets from the conversation Peter Opondo was having  yesternight:

@peteropondo Lets have something that other stations can copy from, not copying other peoples programmes @amerix @k24tv  – @TeeMwangemi

@TeeMwangemi for now I’ll take the criticism, it is healthy! Let’s wait and see the product, then we’ll talk more! @amerix @k24tv – Peter Opondo

This now laughable, #KOT, be informed that @K24tv is starting its own version of #Tujuane. Coming soon. I have seen the promo !  – @amerix

@amerix. You’re right, it’s truly laughable that @K24Tv could be starting its own version of Tujuane, let’s wait and see- a few weeks to go! – Peter Opondo

@peteropondo dont copy, be original. Go out listen to creatives. They can give some of the most interesting selling ideas. @amerix @k24tv  – @NyamwageO

@NyamwangeO we’ve listened to the creatives- we’re creating, not copying… But thanks for the criticism, makes us better! @amerix @k24tv – Peter Opondo

Veteran Sports Journalist Passes On

It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the death of veteran Hezekiah Wepukhulu.

According to Goal.com, ‘Hez’, 89, has been ailing since putting down the pen two years ago and died at the country’s oldest and biggest referral facility Kenyatta National Hospital.

His death came after a career spanning 40 years in which he became one of the first Kenyan journalists to cover the Olympics and the World Cup. Wepukhulu had a distinguished career at the Daily Nation where he had a column, ‘Down Memory Lane’ in which he shed light on football’s past.

The late Wepukhulu was not only an avid fan of AFC Leopards but also a very respectable teller of the football club’s story.

He leaves behind 11 children, among them Ken Nato who used to pen sports news for The People until last month. The late is also survived by a widow, Electina.

On behalf of Ghafla! I convey our heartfelt condolences to Wepukhulu’s family and friends.

Epic Battles Await the Orange Beat Ya Street Last Leg Today

Crews from Thika are currently getting ready to impress judges on the fourth of four regional finals of the Orange Beat Ya Street competition.

The event will  take place at Club Nanazi on Upper Road. This follows the successful regional finals held in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu. After this, the four crews from each of the regionals will face off in Nairobi for the Kshs. 5 million prize.

The Thika teams have gone through rehearsals where they were taught how to utilize the stage by the official Orange Beat Ya Street choreographer and creative director. This helps them familarize themselves with the stage before they go before the camera. The teams also get to interact with the OBYS crew to eliminate tension.

The regional finals have been taking place between 17th July and will end on today. The final four crews will then battle it out for the ultimate prize on 28th September at a televised live event. Catch the show’s progress weekly on every Saturday at 8.00 p.m.

Now that we’re on the same page, keep it Ghafla! for more exclusive scoop.

Ghafla! exposé: ILLUMINATI INDUSTRY

If I had a twenty sh coin for every text/email contributors/writers in Ghafla! have received asking to join the Illuminati, I’d take myself on a SWEET holiday.

But I don’t. Instead I found myself screaming “THERE IS NO F**KING ILLUMINATI!!!” ten times over the phone to a wispy-voiced girl, proceeding to scream so guttural that Kanye West himself would be proud of me. And then I hung up.

Ten minutes later I received a call.

*insert mulika mwizi ring-tone*
-Good afternoon. This is Nali from Ghafla! speaking. How may I help you?-
-Hello? Hello? He… He…. Hello?-
*quiet*
-Hello, you’ve reached Nali. Can you hear me?-
-Hello?-
-I can hear you Miss. Shoot.-
-Madam, please. Unaninice. I want to be a little devil. Just help me.-
-Miss, this number is strictly for current Illuminati members. I’m sorry I can’t help you. Have a good day.-

Embedded image permalink

Immediately after I hang up, I realized. I’m done denying it. There IS an Illuminati. And for all gullible tractionless willing-to-sell-their-souls fools everyone who has asked, Ghafla! is embarking on a 5-week exposé on Kenya’s “Illuminati Industry”.

Illuminati (some of you used to call us Freemasons) members are anyone and everyone who has monetised something that people dismissed once as “not a real job”. Seriously, all you have to do is sign up, and watch the cash roll IN!

So the next five weeks Ghafla! is taking our readers in depth into five “Illuminati” careers, week by week. A DETAILED run down of how you can join Illuminati through each and every single one of them. Every path to Illuminati membership is different, but WHO CARES! Getting in is hard enough, so all members have a mutual respect for each other. None is above the other. We are just all Illuminati brethren.

These are the newest careers guaranteed to land you in the Illuminati. (PS: STRICTLY NO SOCIALITES IN ILLUMINATI. They are not eligible to join. But they are ALWAYS called to the parties to provide entertainment.)

No need to text us, call us anymore. I’ll tell you this though: It’s not a lie what you’ve heard. It’s not easy. BUT most importantly, is, Illuminati membership is available to everyone. You have my word, EVERYONE.

First installment tomorrow at 13:00hrs Kenyan Time.

Top Female Radio Presenters Suffer Defeat on Next Big TV Host

After an excruciating period of intense campaigning for votes online, the winner of Spielworks Media’s ‘Next Big Host’ has been selected.

However, none of the top female radio presenters who had submitted their entries, Miss Mandi and Anita Nderu of Hits FM and Capital FM respectively, for the competition was the winner. Instead, little known Richie Roja a.k.a. Richien Onyango emerged the ultimate ‘Next Big Host’.

Spielworks Media CEO, Dorothy Ghettuba acknowledges that it wasn’t a mean feat but at the end of the day, she and her team reached on the next big host.

The lad managed to shove aside competition from other 53 applicants to finally emerge victorious. We are yet to see what exactly he is going to host, but one thing is for sure; it’s gonna be colossal!

Nyota Ndogo the Mother: Here’s A Picture Of The Mombasa Nightingale Breast Feeding

Motherhood is a truly honourable burden that women the world over undertake and I for one believe in celebrating motherhood. Think about it, as Tupac asked, “Where would we be without our mothers?”

And it is in the the same spirit that i want to celebrate Nyota Ndogo’s motherhood. I came across a picture of her breast feeding her baby and thought to myself, “Aaaaw!” and trust me when I tell you that Uncle Chim Tuna isn’t a sentimental type of chap.

So without further ado, I present to you:

First Ever Kenya Police Reality Show Out!

The Kenya Police has always been associated with greed, brutality and vindictiveness. So much so that to a ‘mwananchi wa kawaida’ a police officer is by no means a friend. However, the new law has tried to streamline the Police first of all by rebranding from a ‘police force’ to ‘police service’.

Well, the Kenya Police has taken this a notch higher by launching an interactive TV show, “Afande Mtaani” featuring Kenya police officers aimed at bettering the relationship between the Police and the general public through open barazas (discussion forums).

Through the show, the audience will be taught community policing, civic education and humanitarian understanding. The TV show will stars officers Kwach a.k.a. Qwacheez and Chemu.

Uncle Chim Tuna Presents, Kenyan Style Icons: Shaffie Weru (PHOTO GALLERY)

I have had enough of seeing Jamaican inspired fashion with little lads in Kenya because honestly, there is nothing swaggy about it. And because I believe that a problem is only a problem if you have a solution at hand to implement, I have to decided to raise this problem and use examples of well dressed Kenyan celebrities as a point of reference.

and being Naija myself, I know a thing or two about style and class. infact if there are people in Africa who know about class, it is Nigerians, Congolese and Luhyas know a thing or two about style.! So allow me to teach you a how to style up using Shaffie Weru (and for a point of note, i do not go in for the high fashion poof sense of style, I keep it simple but clean):

IMG-20130827-WA0009.jpg

While chilling with the lads -steady sippin’- or for a night out around town -and notice the Shaqnosis kicks on his feet:

They retail at about 165 Sterling Pounds!

When you want to go out to a cocktail party a dinner, this look says 007 suave!

Even grown men can experiment with fashion once in a while. And Shaffie has pulled off this pair of harem pants rather well.

So Kenyan lads, stop dressing like lollipops or like Jamaican ruffians and step up your couture etiquette. If you want that ten over ten lass, play your part!

Dennis Okari Lands A New Job After Dismissal From Kiss TV

Less than a fortnight ago when Kiss TV’s management decided to do away with all its staff and shut down the station, the future looked bleak but not so for one Dennis Okari. The industrious investigative journalist has just landed another TV job, similar to the one he previously held at Kiss TV.

Okari even made the revelation on micro-blogging site, Twitter, much to the delight of his friends and new colleagues;

“It is official am joining the awesome NTV Kenya team. Looking forward to meet my new colleagues”

 Immediately, congratulatory messages started pouring;

And of course one from his sweetheart;

Okari who was on sabbatical in Zanzibar with his sweetheart, Betty Kyalo, had to cut it short and jet back to get ready to report on duty officially next week.

Okari becomes the second prolific journalist after Ann Ngugi to have a soft landing ground shortly after being dismissed unceremoniously.

Ghafla! congratulates Okari on his new appointment and wish him god-speed.

Gospel Songstress’ Account Hacked & Swept Clean!

As the string of violent crime incidents is dropping, robbers are becoming sophisticated by embracing technical know-how in their ‘talent’. Recently, worship singer Eunice Njeri, fell victim to such a gang.

While she away in Canada for ministry, money mysteriously disappeared from her KCB account and could not be accounted for. Upon her return less than a fortnight ago, she met that kick in the teeth. Revealing the same on social media, Eunice remained confident that she will get her cash back.

“My account at Kenya Commercial Bank was hacked through the ATM and I sure hope I will get the money back, trusting God.”

However, when contacted, Eunice revealed that the matter has been taken up by the relevant authorities at KCB and that she will be refunded her hard-earned cash in its entirety.

During her 25-week trip to Canada, Eunice headlined 32 events in 19 different cities! Talk of spreading the word.

Victor Wanyama, Sonko, Rudisha & More Go Head-to-Head at Mwafaka Awards

When Victor Wanyama left Celtic and signed for Southampton, Kenya became the 100th country to have a player in the English Premier League.

By playing for the elite league, he becomes the most accomplished soccer player to come out of the country. Rumors of a few more Kenyans joining the EPL (including his brother, MacDonald Mariga) have spread over the years but he becomes the first player to play in the elite league, considered the best in the world.

That achievement plus his previous exploits as the top player in his previous club are the reasons the superstar is one of the nominees at this year’s Mwafaka Awards in the Role Model of the Year category. At 22, he is the youngest nominee.

Wanyama, who historically helped Celtic beat football giants Barcelona last year will compete with runner David Rudisha, Rev Kathy Kiuna, Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore, Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and Pastor Andrew Young.

The awards show will take place on the 1st of September, 2013 at the KICC. The red carpet will be open from 1.00 p.m., while the doors will be closed at 3.00 p.m. Advance tickets will be going for Kshs. 250 and Kshs. 300 at the gate. For bookings, call 0728 384 937.

‘House of Lungula’ Actors Look beyond ‘Lungula’

Kenya’s first sex comedy movie, ‘House of Lungula’ is slated to be released in the next couple of months as Kenyans patiently anticipate it. But for now, its cast is busy occupying itself with other decent activities and not ‘lungula’.

“House of Lungula” actors Gerald Langiri and Helena Waithera along with the director of the movie, Alex Konstantaras, joined by Natasha Wangui Mohammed of the “Changing Times” series fame and upcoming actress Lynne Knowles were last week visiting Mathare Community Educational Development Organization (MCEDO) to teach and educate the children of the Mathare slum.

Mathare Community Education and Development Organization (MCEDO) is a Community Based Organization operating in the heart of Mathare slum. The volunteer run CBO was formed in response to the plight of orphans and the vulnerable children (OVCs). The key areas included illiteracy, HIV & Aids awareness, feeding and environmental conservation.

Hse_of_Lungula_mathare1.jpg

Alex & Gerald follow proceedings keenly

“Giving back to the community is one thing I love doing when I have the chance. This was my second visit to the MCEDO and we actually enjoyed ourselves. It was fun seeing the likes of Helena Waithera, Alex Konstantaras, Natasha Mohammed come out of their comfort zones to go to the ghetto and give a helping hand and actually have fun while at it. Listening to the children talk about their future dreams and learning from us was touching. We were happier to know that the kids actually learnt something after we did a Q & A and most kids were saying ‘where we come from doesn’t matter. What it matters is where we want to be and where we want to go” says Gerald Langiri also founder of www.actors.co.ke

At the finals they will meet the regional winners from Nairobi Thika and Mombasa. The Kisumu finals had some great moments, all captured on camera. If you missed the broadcast on Saturday, below is a photo gallery of the best photos from the competition.

Orange Beat Ya Street is the elite street dance competition seeing some of the biggest dance crews eliminated in the first and regional rounds of the competition which started on online. The crews first had to upload videos of themselves performing a dance routine on YouTube after which fans voted for the best. The groups with the most votes at this stage moved on to the regional finals where they had to prove to the judges that they were best through various stages.

The regional finals have been taking place between 17th July and will end on 28th August with the Thika finals. The final four crews will then battle it out for the ultimate prize on 28th September at a televised live event. Catch the show’s progress weekly on every Saturday at 8.00 p.m.

Revealed: Exactly how the ‘Killer’ Artist Took the Daughter’s Life In Exchange For Money (Part II)

Yesterday we told you how an upcoming artist ‘killed’ his young daughter on Facebook all for fame and money. This tale has left many in shock and disgust for the artist with other bay for his blood. Let’s just carry on where we left off.

On Thursday Morning,Maleek and Ketty woke up. And started texting their mutual friends asking them to meet at Club Psys in town in the evening.

And at Club Psys,Maleek’s army of friends showed up in full force. To show Support and Love. And Yes,they didnt just offer verbal support but financial too.

All this time,Maleek had been using his FB page and account to post grief updates…sad, sorrowful updates…asking his friends to help him finance his late daughter’s funeral.

Touched by his story,Maleek’s friends donated mightily to him. They gave and gave and gave. And Maleek couldnt be happier.

Every two hours,he would update, “R.I.P Angel. Miss You so much”…

Anyway, after the Thursday meeting at Club Psys,Maleek and Ketty went home. But Maleek’s behaviour and attitude at the funeral gathering was totally strange. He didnt speak, sound or look like someone who had just lost a daughter. And his friends greatly smelt somethng suspicious.

Damn! This guy is fooling us! They concluded.

And when they got home,Ketty’s 3 Year old son was sleeping on the couch….and then Maleek said the MOST SHOCKING thing!

He said,

”Unacheki vile mtoi wako amelala hapa…akiwa ameangalia juu…ivo ndivo mtoi wangu alikuwa amelala akidedi…hahaha…ama hata huyu mtoi wako akufe alafu badala ya kusema REST IN PEACE tutawaambia PEST IN PIECES….”

And HE LAUGHED.

Ketty’s heart almost stopped!

Anyway, when Maleek texted his pals asking them to turn up again at Club Psys on Friday evening,No One showed up. Only him,Ketty were there.

And when he texted them again pleading with them to show up on saturday evening for more funeral planning, again,NO ONE showed up. Only Ketty and her sister.

People had started suspecting Maleek. And NO ONE was believing him.

Except poor Ketty. Ketty was a bestfriend, and it was so easy for Maleek to fool and hoodwink Ketty.

Ketty believed him all-through. And stuck by him as true friends should.

So,following Monday,Ketty and her son boarded a Kisumu-bound bus….she travelled overnight and arrived at Kisumu following Tuesday morning.

Upon arrival,Ketty and her son hired a car and drove to the Aga Khan Mortuary after reading Maleek’s FB update which read ,” At Aga Khan Mortuary now…to pick up the body of my swt daughter…”

Upon arrival at the Aga Khan Mortuary, she realized that there was NO ACTIVITY there. No people. No Maleek. Nothing.

Ketty moved in and inquired whether there was a body of a little girl which was to be collected that morning. And the attendants said there was nothng like that.

Ketty was shocked. She tried calling Maleek. He wouldn’t pick up the phone. She called him again and again and he finally put off his phone.

Ketty was mad. She couldn’t believe this was happening.

And after asking around, someone gave Ketty the phone number of Baby Tinisha’s mother. Immediately,Ketty called her up saying,

“Pole sana kwa kukusumbua at such a trying moment. Anyway, tuko Mortuary sasa na Maleek hachukui simu. Mnakuja saa ngapi? Pole sana for losing your daughter Tinisha…”

Tinisha’s mama screamed on phone! She said Baby Tinisha was NOT dead! ” Hata ako hapa anacheza na marafiki wake!!” She screamed.

“Hata Maleek tuliwachana kitambo na mimi nikaolewa Mombasa! Niko Coast saa hii! Tinisha ako hai! God! Hajakufa! Ako hapa!” Maleek’s Baby Mama screamed.

Ketty’s heart sank. It seemed like a stupid joke. A horror joke.

Maleek had been lying for a WHOLE WEEK. Lying,Lying,Lying.

He fooled his FB friends, his real life friends, his family. Everybody. Maleek had fooled Everybody!

Baby Tinisha wasn’t DEAD! Baby was alive and kicking! And having fun with Mummy at the Coast!

WHAAAAAT! Ketty’s head was spinning. Spinning hard and fast.

And when Maleek was contacted later by the Standard Media, he confessed that his friends had donated Ksh.300,000 to him. For the funeral expenses. A funeral that never was!

And when asked whether he would refund the money to the innocent people he swindled it from,he hang up his phone.

Revealed: Exactly how the ‘Killer’ Artist Took the Daughter’s Life In Exchange For Money

I know you’ve already heard and read how an upcoming artist allegedly conspired to ‘kill’ his daughter all for money. Well, full details of how 28 Year old Maleek a.k.a. Moses Kamunya Odhiambo killed’ his own daughter for the love of attention and money.

Cabu Gah recently spoke to a lady, Ketty Nyaga, who played host to Maleek for the entire ‘mourning period’. Here’s what Cabu Gah found out (Warning: Long Post Ahead!);

On August 5th 2013,Maleek made a facebook post about his daughter. He told his FB friends that his 4-Year old daughter was seriously ill and that she needed urgent prayers.

And on August 6th,Maleek updated that his daughter’s condition had worsened. And urged for more prayers.

And on 9th August,Maleek made the final chilling update. He updated that his daughter had died. And he finished off with “R.I.P swt Tinisha”.

BANG. His friends jammed his phone. His Facebook friends flooded his inbox and raped his wall. He was bombarded with a torrent of “R.I.P” messages. And he Loved it. The BASTARD Loved the attention.

Feigning devastation,Maleek phoned his bestfriend Ketty and requested that he joins her in Nairobi to be able to plan his daughter’s funeral easily. Being the amazing friend she is,Ketty invited Maleek to her place. And on August 10th,Maleek arrived in Nairobi from Kisumu. He carried ALL his stuff. In 3 huge bags, and moved into Ketty’s Nairobi home.

And from there, the “funeral plans” began. Ketty was like a mother to Maleek. She let him move into her place, she offered herself, her money, time and energy to help Maleek go through this devastating period.

All this time,Maleek would cry and mourn and say how much he misses his sweet daughter.

And on 12th August,on Monday,Maleek woke up and told Ketty that he wanted to go to his daughter’s former school to report her death and get a death certificate. And he went.

On Tuesday,13th August,Maleek again woke up and said he was going to town for a photoshoot. Kumbe the idiot was going to drink. And true to his character,Maleek didnt attend any photoshoot. He spent the day with friends with whom he drank until 3am in the morning…Wednesday morning.

All this time,Ketty was getting suspicious of this guy. Maleek’s attitude and character didnt betray the character of a mourning person. He seemed too happy, too jovial and upbeat to be mourning. And Ketty started suspecting him.

Anyway, the bigot came home Wednesday mourning at 3am. Drunk to death. And when the sun came out,Maleek woke Ketty up and told her that they should go to Kenyatta Market to buy a coffin.

Maleek even called a certain coffin-maker at Kenyatta Market and told her, “Ni sanduku ya mtoto wa miaka nne. Halafu,I want it to be painted in pink…She loved pink…”

And the Kenyatta Market Mama started working on the pink coffin immediately.

But somethng strange happened. While they were on their way to Kenyatta Market,Maleek told Ketty ,”Ama tu-buy Legend twende IMAX tukakunywe?!”

Legend is a type of alcohol. And now,Maleek, instead of going to collect his daughter’s coffin, was suggesting that they buy beer and go to IMAX to drink. Ketty was shocked.

Is this man even serious?? Did he really love his daughter?? Ketty wondered.

And they abandoned the coffin idea. Went to IMAX to drink, and later on to Scratch Club in town for Karaoke Night. Remember, this is Wednesday night.

So,they landed at Scratch Club and sat. Shish of Tahidi High was hosting a Karaoke Night. And so,Ketty walked up to Shish and told her, “Sema Shish…Maleek amepoteza mtoi wake,na anataka kuimba song moja as a dedication…”

Shish was so shocked that she dropped the microphone. Later, she invited Maleek over to do a tribute song for his daughter. And Maleek did two funereal songs in memory of Baby Tinisha.

And after a few drinks late into the night,Ketty and Maleek went home……..

Here’s Part II
