Ghafla Exclusive: More Kenyan Artistes Expose Rogue Kenyan Promoter Attacked In Dubai

A few weeks ago, we told you of how Ukoo Flani rapper, Cannibal, was allegedly detained at a Dubai hotel after failing clear his bills. The man behind his woes, according to sources was notorious Kenyan promoter based in Dubai, Hassan Waziri.

Waziri distanced himself from the allegations but we later woke up to his bloody face and broken nose on social media. It was said that he had been attacked by irate fans who had gotten tired of his mischief. Hassan came out once again to deny these allegations and said that his attackers were ruffians supporting a breakaway faction of a reggae promotions group and not irate fans as it had been previously reported by media.

His claims have been rubbished by a number of artistes among them Collo,Grandpa Records and DNA.Dj Crème De La Crème who had been swindled by Waziri even took a shot at him saying  Not to be evil but Hassan Waziri, Karma is a b**tch .look at you now

Sources have revealed to us that the following artistes have also had a run-in with what Collo calls the ‘Junkie Promoter’:

  • Kidum
  • P-Unit
  • Dj Kalonje
  • Dj space
  • Nonini
  • Chris Darling
  • Robba formerly of Kleptomaniax
  • MOG among others

This Is How Xtatic Maintains Her Sexy Body (PHOTO)

I write this particular article with a very heavy heart. Yesterday, I was informed that Xtatic has a boyfriend. I can only pray that my information is wrong. If it isn’t then I begrudgingly wish them the best. And why is Uncle Chim Tuna very sad about all this? Slap the lad that asked such a silly question! Have you not seen the lass’ sexy body?

While all the other RnB and female celebrity are busy growing fat, Xtatic is hitting the gym maintaining her body. Staying toned, sweaty and lithe. I like flexible girls *insert smiley face*.

You cannot help but be enamoured by a lass that takes care of her body because she understands and appreciates the pivotal role it plays in her brand. Xtatic is the tomboy every lad is secretly hoping to get with. She is gangster yet breathtakingly beautiful: you know the type aye nephew? The really beautiful lass who doesn’t seem to appreciate just how beautiful she is.

Check her out as she works on her muscle tone. No flab around here:

Check out that muscle tone and also take note of the lack of a flabby tummy. Oh and for all you feminists hating, the lass is a mother of one. You have no excuse!

Is This The end Of KBC? The National Television Network Is Now Insolvent

From my days as a finance student, I know that insolvency is when an individual or organization can no longer meet its financial obligations with its lender(s) as debts become due.
And it would seem that KBC is not just bankrupt, it’s unable to meet it’s financial obligations to it’s staff and it’s creditors.

Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) has failed to service a debt it owes to Japan’s Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund that has accumulated to Sh32.3 billion.

The insolvency arose from a government-guaranteed loan of Sh8.2 billion that KBC took in 1989 from the Japanese Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund to acquire medium-wave equipment, but defaults, penalties and interest loaded on the principal have seen the liability surge.

KBC says the money was borrowed on the strength of cashflows expected from the sale of television permits — then at Sh1,000 per set. However, to the horror of the corporation, the permit fees were scraped with the liberalisation of the broadcasting sector in 1997, denying KBC more than Sh500 million a year in income.

In 1996, there were 730,000 television sets in use across the country compared to five million currently.

This constrained KBC’s efforts to settle the debt, which was informally taken over by the government on the understanding that the broadcaster would reimburse the money together with interest charged at 15 per cent per year.

The government has so far paid Sh9.29 billion and the outstanding balance as at June this year is Sh5.99 billion, according to official data.

“KBC has not paid GoK any portion of this loan, but has continued to accumulate the liability (principal and interest amounts) in its books,” said a recent report commissioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta on restructuring State-owned corporations.

“While it is important to retain the Corporation as a public broadcaster, there is a need to emphasise good governance so as to turn the corporation into a profitable venture,” the report recommends.

KBC management has in the past asked the Treasury to take over the Japanese loan given the broadcaster no longer collects the Sh1,000 levy.

This, together with increased competition from new players, saw KBC post a loss of Sh4.1 billion in the year ended June — making it the worst performing State corporation.

Unlike other commercial broadcasters, KBC has a mandate to ensure it offers services to almost all parts of the country regardless of whether it is making a profit or not.

This has forced it to invest heavily in expensive infrastructure and human capacity in what has put pressure on the State to continue funding the broadcaster.

The broadcaster received Sh1 billion from the state in the year to June.

TPF 3’s Patricia Kihoro & Calvo Mistari’s Relationship is on the Rocks. Is a Break Up Looming?

When your relationship is on the rocks, you’ll experience a lot of extremes as a couple: more fights, more tears, more unhappiness. You may make up a few times, but inevitably, the cycle starts all over again. Relationship doctors opine; “If you have the sinking feeling that your relationship is on the rocks, then it’s time to reflect on your relationship and try to save it – if it’s worth it.”

That’s the situation that ‘celebrity couple’ Patricia Kihoro and Calvo Mistari find themselves in. in as much as theirs is a relationship on the rocks, the two are finding it very hard to part ways. Patricia laments, “Our loving has never been right so why don’t we love wrong, all we do is fight, it’s been like this for so long but it’s still in our hearts we can never let this go.”

On his part, Calvo complains that there has never been peace in their house “…nimechoka na drama naona hii nyumba kuna siku nitahama. Kelele kila siku hii ndoa inazama naona uamini you’re my one and only mama…” adding, “baby me nataka tu uhusiano ikue straight between me and you.”

Guys, this is the latest love song is in town produced by Dillie and will be one of the songs featured in Calvo’s upcoming album “Madaraka Madness”.

The Man Who Brought You Wanjiku the Teacher, Brings You Another Hilarious Female Comedian

After successful introduction of the female stand-up comedian, Wanjiku the Teacher, the man quietly behind these successful crop of stand-up comedians, Sammy Mwangi, brings you yet another female stand-up comedian on 30th November at the Alliance Francaise gardens.

She actually is the lady who used to act in the addictive local soap called Wingu La Moto as Waridi. Drumroll… the crazy female stand-up comedian is ‘President Waridi’. Through the now much-acclaimed monthly stand-up comedy show, HOT SEAT by Heartstrings Entertainment, President Waridi has swiftly and surely poised herself to take up the top ranks of the clustered crop of female comedians.

Her gut-busting running slogan across her shows is “I don’t take crap”. She has hilariously taken an authoritative position to show just how presidents should run a country. She simply says what presidents don’t have a privilege of saying. In fact she has been considered to be the kind of president that the rest of the Presidents will want to watch.

Knowing Sammy Mwangi, this month’s HOT SEAT will certainly live to its billing. Visit and like their page, Heartstrings Entertainment, on Facebook to find out why.

This afternoon KOT, being who they are, have been trolling Cannibal unsympathetically as they poked fun at the botched show.

Here’s the First Ever Kikuyu Artist to Get VEVO’d by YouTube

If you’ve ever looked up a music video on YouTube, often one of the first results you get takes you to the artist’s Vevo channel. But have you ever wondered what Vevo really is, apart from what you find on YouTube?

For starters, Vevo is not just another YouTube music channel. Described as “your personalized music video and music entertainment platform,” Vevo is a website created by Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Abu Dhabi Media that seeks joint ventures with other sites to provide them with music video content. EMI licenses the content without taking an ownership stake.

Vevo has over 50,000 videos available, with Google and Vevo sharing the advertising revenue. According to its company profile, it’s been ranked as the number one music platform on the web. To cut the long story short, this channel offers so much for an artist than the most basic channel.

Anyhow, Ben Gichuhi, one of Kenya’s freshest talents in the gospel industry has become one the first ever ‘Kigooco’ artist to have a Vevo Channel. Famous for his hit song ‘Reke Tuine’, Ben has managed to gain massive following from Kenyans and lovers of vernacular gospel music.

“The message remains the same, even when you sing in your mother tongue, and I am honored to be on VEVO”, says Ben Gichuhi.

Citizen TV’s ‘Mother-In-Law’ & ‘Machachari’ Actress Suffering From Cancer: Needs Your Help

“Cancer” is one of those frightening words you never want to hear in connection with someone you love. The monster can be disfiguring, causes terrible suffering; even the treatments available are often harrowing. Unfortunately, this “rich man” disease is gradually becoming part of our lives.

Veronica Waceke is a screen plus stage actress whom you may have spotted on TV shows like ‘Higher Learning’, where she plays Aida, a sassy University girl who runs an escort company and she lures her friends to join the business with a promise of good pay and the good life.

She has also been on ‘Guy Centre’, where she plays a talent scout who fishes for new musical talent and goes ahead to promote it. She has also been featured in other local TV acts amongst ‘Be the Judge’, ‘Makutano Junction’, ‘Machachari’ and recently, ‘Mother in Law’.

The young, hardworking and passionate actor is now living in fear; fear for her life since doctors diagnosed her with Thyroid cancer. It started off as a painless swelling around her neck. She, and even some of her friends, confused with a lower Adam’s apple and even made fun of it. The swelling wasn’t going away and it was gradually increasing in size and this is when she got concerned, her folks too became concerned and it was her mother who eventually urged her to have the swelling checked out.

The endless trips to clinics and hospitals begun. She got conflicting results with some doctors saying it was a goiter. She was subjected to many tests with doctors at Kenyatta National Hospital finally finding out traces of thyroid cancer cells in the swelling.

Vero (R) in action

The remedy for her kind of cancer is to undergo a procedural surgery which aims to remove the thyroid glands and thereafter be placed under permanent medication to prevent any recurrence of the cancerous cells. The procedure, which will cost around approximately ksh 400,000

The best we can offer this talented actress is not our sympathies but join “Art Synthesis”. It is a an annual charity event started and organized by a group of artists coming together to help Veronica. The first event will be held on the 23rd November, 2013 at the Alliance Francaise starting for 2:00PM.

Robert Alai Vying For Yet Another Top Job

A couple of years ago it was easy to assume that the art of blogging was set to die a painful death at the hands of social networks like Facebook and Twitter and others. While social has changed how we communicate online, blogging remains a core part of things especially with the rising number of bloggers.

But one Robert Onyango Alai stands out as one of the most active bloggers and Twitterati. In fact, for him there’s never been a better time to blog. He comands a huge following and delivers content to them by sending swarms of tweets, even though very many KOT like to pretend they don’t take him seriously.

Anyhow, Alai is just about to get another feather on his sombrero. The ‘TechMtaa’ blogger has expressed his interest in ODM Elections and declared he will be vying for the party’s Organizing Secretary post in the elections scheduled for later next month.

“Why not consider me for the #ODMElections Organising Sec. during the next elections. Apart from being former mayor, who is Junet Mohammed?”

Alai who has prided himself on being the voice of the voiceless, has in the past been a sharp critic of the “orange” party and it will be interesting to see him join the party.

It will be remebered that Alai unsuccessfully tried to become Kenya’s first Inspector General of Police in October last year.

After Going Topless,Top Model Amina Amaru Gets Featured In One Of Africa’s Classiest Magazines (Photos)

The fashion industry seems to celebrate models going topless; from Naomi Campbell to Heidi Klum all these models have gone topless. Stories have been told of how a designer has sent models down a runway with their ladies bobbing all over the place in the name of high fashion.

Whether you like it or find it morally appalling you have to admit that topless photos seem to sell a model. Now before the moral police come knocking at my door I will state that I do not endorse women going topless but then again these models are grown-ups and I believe are responsible for their choices. What they do with their Ta-tas I cannot control.

Anyhow do you remember Amina Amaru, the top model who went topless for a shoot? If not, let me jog your memory

Well the lass has been featured in one of Africa’s top magazines, Couture magazine.have a look

Awwww! Meet Classic 105’s Nick Odhiambo’s Adorable Kid (PHOTOS)

Kenyan showbiz is slowly becoming full of celebrity mini me’s of late – kids that look exactly like their famous parents. Some children are a perfect blend of their celebrity parents, and some are spitting images of just one of their parents like in the case of Classic’s Ciku Muiruri and her daughter, Erica.

While it may be basically unfair that celebrities get all the ‘good genes’, and it’s double unfair when they pass them onto their equally-as-gorgeous children, it is particularly fascinating to see how some children look like carbon copies of their parents. Sometimes, however, the resemblance may just be off!

When it comes to good genetics, Classic 105 and XYZ’s Nick Odhiambo’s adorable baby girl, Amara Odhiambo, has hit the jackpot. The young girl rocks locks just like her celebrity dad and even though she’s #TeamLightSkin, she kinda takes after the dad.

Photo Of The Day: Willis Raburu Trolls Arsenal Fans Badly (WARNING: Do Not Open This if You’re a Sensitive Arsenal Fan)

Right after the Arsenal (team for young children and football fans who lack ambition) lost to Manchester United (a team that has been dominant for the past two decades but chiefly due to referee interference) once again, I was simply not stunned. It was expected.

And Willis Raburu decided to honour his team (he is an avowed red Devil fan) with a opicture to commemorate their whitewashing of the title pretenders and he took to his instagram account to do so. Personally, I think this is a very funny and apt way to pass a message across to title posers from Manc scum.

Watch KTN’s Sophia Wanuna Interview The Team Behind Kenya’s First Sex Comedy (VIDEO)

Ever since Ghafla shone a spotlight on Kenya’s first on so far only sex comedy “House Of Lungula”, the entire nation has been abuzz with alot of curiosity being generated on what exactly the play is about and one of Kenya’s leading media stations has sought to answer that question.

KTN’s Sophie Wanuna recently sat down with the brains behind the play to try and find out whether it will feature some pornography and nudity and whether it is something the government would ban.

And I was impressed by how eloquently and smoothly all the prickly topics were handled. But I do not believe in giving people spoilers so let me simply give you the video. Please watch it and acquaint yourself with House of Lungula:

Ghafla Profiled On An International Business Website

Ghafla is certainly going places. that has never been in doubt. If anything, third party analytics from Google have smashed any and every doubt anyone has ever had in the Ghafla strategy. And recently, a website that aggregates business information gave Mista Majani a call seeking to find out about Ghafla’s good fortune.

This was how the interview was:

Ghafla won’t win any journalism awards any time soon, but it’s evidence that some of the revenue models pioneered by a few American outlets are finding uptake elsewhere.

Kenya is attracting a good deal of attention from the Internet-inclined these days. It has seen a new wave of impact investors, entrances by IBM and Google, and musings that the country is primed for Bitcoin.

ghaflaThere’s also buzz around the popular entertainment news site, Ghafla, which is counting more than 1.2 million monthly uniques four years since it launched, according to founder Sam Majani. These metrics make Ghafla the country’s most popular entertainment news site, and Majani says he’s making 13 times what he spends on operations for a profit of over 90 percent.

His secret?

Majani told me he tries to take the best practices from U.S. media companies figuring out their business models. He relies on sponsored content and daily deals and runs a shop that is “very, very lean,” he says. Ghafla’s expenses are low, less than $15,000 per year. Majani says it costs $225 per month for rent and Internet bills combined. He saves some money by sharing a dedicated web server with an uncle, and pays his five employees a few hundred dollars a month apiece. (Though this may seem on par with Kenya’s average annual salary of about $1,700 a year, using average salary as a benchmark in a country that’s home to many of the world’s poorest people is a problematic measure.)

“Everyone at Ghafla gets paid. It’s just that it’s not a lot,” Majani said in a February interview. “On the bright side, I’m positive we’ll be able to pay reasonable salaries by the end of this year.”

That confidence may stem from the fact that Ghafla is netting some $20,000 a month, Majani says. The lion’s share of revenue — about 60 percent — comes from banner-ad deals with major sponsors like the French telecom company Orange and the national utility Kenya Power. Around 20 or 25 percent of revenue comes from sponsored content, especially event posts. About 10 percent comes from running ads on social media, Facebook and Twitter, where his pages have combined followings of nearly 150,000. The rest comes from a “Daily Deals” partnership with a ticket-selling company, which Majani expects will expand.

Ghafla isn’t going to be winning investigative journalism awards any time soon; its bread and butter is entertainment coverage and celebrity gossip, but the site also features event listings, some news, and crowd-sourced lyrics — a hold-over from the site’s origins.

Meet The Stunning Sister To ‘The Wedding Show’ Host Nonny Gathoni (Photos)

In a world of wedding shows in Kenya, only one show reigns supreme, and that is Citizen’s wedding show. For a while now, Kenyans from all walks of life tune in religiously to Citizen TV every Sunday at 6 pm to get a dose of the pageantry and glamour that comes with weddings.

This show has elevated weddings from drab to fab, dull and uncreative weddings are a thing of the past. Color schemes are considered when choosing a wedding theme and the annoying satin dresses have been thrown out of the window for something more glamorous. One of the key ingredients to the success of this show is none other than the charming host Nonny Gathoni.

I bumped into a photo of Nonny and her sister and she is equally stunning. Have a look:

Uncle Chim Tuna’s 12 Lessons Everyone In Their 20s Can Learn From Ghafla

I decided to make a list of 12 lessons people can learn from Ghafla because Christ had 12 disciples. And the unique thing about my list of things people should know or get to experience while in their twenties is the fact that I am writing it from an entertainment angle. I figure, seeing as I am turning 25 this Friday, I should share some of my experiences and the lessons I learnt from them. And some are hilarious, some are dark.

When you turn 20, an entire new world opens up to you. There is university or college. You’re finally old enough to talk about adult topics such as sex and understand the ramifications of your decisions. Your parents no longer treat you like a toddler and even encourage you to go out and make mistakes of your own (within reason). But there are some of us who get hung on being 16 for years while others are 21 and have the maturity and wisdom af 60year olds who have lived a lifetime of bad decisions. and the entertainment industry is awash with the two types. Why? well, because the entertainment industry attracts extroverts& narcissistic.
And some of the things I have learnt over the years working at Ghafla are:

#1. Learn to network.
Learn to talk to people when you’re out. Learn to hobknob and mingle; you never know when it will come in handy.

#2. Make REAL friends.
Working for Ghafla I have watched celebrities back-stab each other. I have watched careers rise and plumet and I have seen as “friends” scatter from you when the hard times come. Make real friends because these will last a lifetime. My colleagues are some of my best friends. Wait, does that mean I have a sad life? still trying to figure that out.

#3. Seek a mentor.
Mista Majani is mine. That is why I joined Ghafla. I joined so i could start something of my own. Mista Majani took me under his wing and would invite me for meetings with his investors. Seek out mentors who are truly out to help you. Not mentors who are doing so simply to assuage whatever guilt they have accumulated in life. Seek mentors who will help you grow both professionally and mentally.

#4. Take risks.
When I joined Ghafla, I was a finance student at JKUAT. I had the Ghafla records at my disposal. I saw the trajectory Ghafla is headed on and i decided to join full time. I took a risk -a calculated gamble if you will. The way I see life, while you are 20-something, you are young enough to make mistakes and still have time to recover. You can stake your world on a decision, watch your world crumble and still have the youthful vigour necessary to pick yourself up and move on -especially if you have no dependents.

#5. Never rush life.
Life is short, live it to the fullest. Be young while you’re young. Be silly. Laugh when you feel like and within reason, do what you will. You owe it to yourself.

#7. Have a passion
Before joining Ghafla, my passion was watches. I found it very easy to apply the same passion I have for collecting and restoring watches into working at Ghafla. That is one thing everyone seems to comment about when I meet them. And it makes me want to succeed at Ghafla.

#8. Ignore the haters and detractors.
Ghafla is at a point where everyone has noticed us. Some hate seeing young people make money. Others are inspired. Some say words of encouragement but the loud minority love to hate. Learn to ignore the noise. Keep your eyes on the prize always. When Ghafla was starting out, alot of people had something negative to say about starting an “entertainment website”. When I wanted to join, alot of people spoke ill about Ghafla. They now call me asking for favours and employment opportunities. As Sue Watiri once told me, “No one ever throws rocks at a fruitless tree!”

#9. Celebrities too are human.
Stop idolizing socialites and celebrities. They are only here to entertain. stop trying to be like them and for heavensake stop whining about that “naked socialite” simply because she has a better body than you. Learn to see them for what they are, entertainers and leave it at that.

#10. Cultivate a work ethic.
Working hard is something admirable. Forget all the trustfund-babies who spend all day doing nothing. Working hard is my form of worship. I work like a slave so I may eat like a king when the appointed time arrives.

#11. Save.

I have seen so many celebrities fall off and land in the jaws of poverty and that scares me. Some get invited abroad and when things do not work out, lack the funds needed for a bailout. I do not want to go down that path!

#12. Cultivate your reputation.

Think of your reputation as your brand. What comes to mind when people mention your name. Mine is that I am a man of my word. I have never had to reassure a celebrity or source that I will not run their name when I run an expose. They know I will not.
I have also never been yelled at by anyone demanding a take down. Everyone knows better.

Oprah Winfrey Big Ups Lupita Nyong’o

So far, it has been a very fruitful year for Kenya’s film wonder kid, Lupita Nyong’o as far as her Hollywood career is concerned. After filming 12 Years a Slave shortly after her graduation from Yale’s School of Drama, Lupita’s star started rising.

Despite the fact that Oprah Winfrey and Lupita will be competing against each other for Best Supporting Actress at the 86th annual Academy Awards ceremony, the TV show queen had some kind words for the great daughter of Kenya.

Speaking to Vanity Fair’s Julie Miller at Fox Searchlight’s holiday party in Los Angeles, Nyong’o relayed a story about meeting Winfrey for the first time.

“I did the Hollywood Reporter roundtable with her. I was sitting at my makeup station and the hair stylist looked at me in the mirror and mouthed, ‘Oprah.’ I was like, ‘What?!'” Nyongo’o, who stars in Fox Searchlight’s 12 Years A Slave, told Miller. “It was like slow motion. I got up. I turned around and she was there. Her arms were outstretched and she gave me a big hug. She was like, ‘You were amazing!'”

Oprah, who plays a key supporting role in “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” has said she was profoundly affected by 12 Years A Slave, which is based on the memoir by Solomon Northup and provides a first-hand account of his time spent as a slave in Louisiana.

“It’s impossible for me to talk about it,” Oprah said in an interview with the BBC. “I can’t even talk about it. Devastating.”

Sauti Sol Gives A Classy Response To Allegations That They Are Gay

Sauti Sol’s concoction of energetic rhythms has promoted the group to become one of East Africa’s most distinguished boy bands.

They recently bagged two nominations for the Channel O Video awards and as usual not many people were popping champagne over their success. The envy was real and a certain blog made untrue accusations that the band was Gay and proud.

This accusation has made them a target for cyber bullies who had a field day making fun of the band. So what does the band have to say about these accusations?

Shame on those trying to taint others names for a living.Focus on hard work, your life and positivity, our message to all of you

We were not interviewed or get quoted by any of those blogs trying to drag our name in gossip stories

There you have it from the horses’ mouth, those accusations were false not forgetting damning.I believe instead of bashing people on social media we should support one of our own.Vote for Sauti Sol by following this link
