Balancing The Readers’ Needs And The Advertisers’ Needs

Of late, we have been facing a bit of a conundrum.

Ghafla! is a hit with the Kenyan public, both at home and abroad. Our 1.2 million readers can’t get enough of our news, seeing as they read on average 11 stories per month from us.

However, when it comes to media, what makes it a tricky business is that you have to serve two masters at the same time: the consumers and the advertisers. And sometimes what the consumer wants is not the same as what the advertiser wants. To make things worse, the entertainment industry is full of attention seeking behaviour, whether it’s the skimpy skirts in music videos, or the sex-themed theatre productions, or the drunken parties. A large portion of our readers want to see this stuff, but then there are the advertisers, who put food on our table, and they do NOT want to be associated with such racy content.

To take care of both these needs, we decided to come up with a few compromises to make our website a brand-safe destination, and still the place that people all over the world can rely on to give them the boldest coverage of entertainment news. First and foremost, we yesterday announced that we were making a commitment to ban and delete all the nude photos on Ghafla. Now, further to that, we have come up with an “Uncut” section, where all the ‘morally questionable’ happenings in the entertainment industry will be written about. In this “Uncut” section, there will be no direct advertising whatsoever. It will be clearly labelled as explicit and over 18 material.

Photo Of The Day: Kantai Allegedly Passes Out After Imbibing Too Much Kibao Vodka (Photo) UPDATED

There have been rumours swirling around about Kantai falling into the abyss of alcoholism but because I had nary an article of evidence, I refused to believe that this was true. But alas! A morsel of proof seems to have fallen from out of the internets and onto my lap -top that is.

The Kenyan MC Kantai was one of the best rappers during his heydays and he released hit after hit representing Westlands and being from that general area myself, I loved just how hard he went in.

Then out of the blues, he decided to hang up his mic. That was a sad day indeed. That was when rumours begun to swirl around claiming that he had fallen into alcoholism and after his management team denied the rumours furoiously, I figured it was just another malicious rumour. But now, a picture allegedly of Kantai has come through and in the picture, Kantai has allegedly passed out after imbibing too much Kibao vodka.

Look at the picture and let us know what you think. Is this Kantai? personally I am still undecided. i attempted to call him for a response but his phone wouldn’t go through:

I HAVE FINALLY REACHED KANTAI’S MANAGER AND I CAN VERIFY THAT THIS IS IN FACT NOT KANTAI.

I HAVE FINALLY REACHED KANTAI’S MANAGER AND I CAN VERIFY THAT THIS IS IN FACT NOT KANTAI.

Lanes! Check out Easy FM’s Munene Nyagah’s 8-Bedroom ‘Palace’ (PHOTOS)

Home is where the heart is and Easy FM’s breakfast show presenter, Munene Nyagah, knows that too well. The celebrated radio and TV host is among the very few Kenyan celebs that do not have to endure the landlord headache every end month.

Munene is a proud owner of a seriously awesome palatial mansion located on Mombasa Road that can only compared to the Hollywood cribs you see on MTV. Munene’s ‘palace’ boasts of;

  1. 8 bedrooms
  2. 49-metre square living room
  3. A huge bar
  4. Hut-shaped observatory glass house
  5. 6 bathrooms
  6. An outdoor balcony that overlooks the whole of Athi River and Kitengela
  7. An underground water tank that can hold up to 80,000 litres of water and overhead tanks that hold 6,000 litres of water

Take a look at the crib;

Collo And STL Do The Unthinkable: Release An Explicit Track Titled “Kudinyana” (VIDEO)

Collo is one of Kenya’s most prolific rappers and STL transcends the title Femcee. she is just a good rapper period. better than alot of the male so called rappers out these days. I however have to say that the decision for them to collabo on this song is a decision I do not understand.

Do not get me wrong. Both MCs are wicked skilled and making a collabo is self scientific for them given their chemistry but why make this song? Are they looking to shock the nation?

Are they trying a shock jock stunt? If so, they have succeeded. Then a fan went and created this video. Watch and tell me what you think of this:

Balling! Prezzo Shows Out In A 39,000 Shilling Designer Shirt! (PHOTO GALLERY)

It has never been denied that Prezzo is just that guy. He is a trendsetter and a fashion icon ahead of his time. Sometimes, the simpler minds do not get it but sometimes other fashion forward individuals see what he’s on and refuse to allow myopic haters to cloud his shine.

I just got my mitts on some photos of Prezzo out and about town “stuntin on these garden implements” and I was shocked at what I saw. Please have a look at the picture below and let me know what you think:

PREZZO_2.jpg

It doesn’t m,atter what you think! This is what matters: Prezzo is rocking a PRSVR shirt. The same type Chris Brown is seen in below:

While admittedly, they aren’t exactly the same seeing as Chris Breezy is rocking the V-neck version, they still both cost 460$.

That’s 38,977 Kshs spent on a shirt.

But that open belt vibe is very off! What are you preparing for lad? buckle up!

Citizen Radio’s Controversial Presenter Strikes Again

He’s probably the most controversial radio personality in Kenya when it comes to matters politics. He’s had run in with different people over his divergent views on how matters are run in the country. Waweru Mburu has stroke again.

Recently on his ‘Yaliyotendeka’ show, Mburu Radio Citizen faulted the Government citing the following;

1. Kenya is pushing ICC cases against Uhuru and Ruto to be deferred or cancelled. According to him, the move will not be possible and if the ICC agrees to do so then Uhuru and Ruto will be declared ‘Champions of crime and dictatorship’ and they will join the leagues of Robert Mugabe and Al Bashir since they will have licensed African Presidents to maim and kill their citizens without consequence.

2. Mburu further alleges that Uhuru and Ruto have shown Kenyans that countries like Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Sudan and others are their role models while countries like USA, German, Britain and others are their enemies and these labels Uhuru and Ruto as visionless leaders.

3. He claims that Kenya is heading in the direction of Zimbabwe which has been facing East for 20 years and gained nothing but poverty. Mburu adds that Uhuru’s father himself gained knowledge from Britain and not from China but the son has decided to fool himself with the East.

4. Mburu has called upon Kenyans to stop hypocrisy by pretending to hate the West while at night they are crowded in night clubs watching English Premier Leagues while donning their favourite EPL team jerseys but no one buys Ulinzi star jerseys.

5. Kenyans were dictated by tyranny of numbers during the last election instead of using their wisdom and knowledge to elect visionary leaders. He argues that Kenya is a doomed country under Uhuru and Ruto leadership. Adding that miraa farmers in Kenya are begging the West to accept their products and others begging the West for scholarships but their leaders are busy burning the bridges.

Do you agree with Mburu?

‘Pulse’ Lead Writer Smitta Trolls Ciku Muiruri for Calling Kenyan Men ‘Broke & Ugly’

It’s always pretty interesting to see celebs face off fiercely. So, a couple of days ago, Classic 105’s Ciku Muiruri asserted that ‘Kenyan men are broke and ugly’ something that ignited a colossal backlash especially from men who resorted to name-calling. Unfortunately, no male celeb came out to respond to the brains behind ‘Busted’ segment.

Last evening, however, Smitta Smitten of ‘Pulse’ known for his balls of steel went in on the radio host saying she must have been high on some bootleg Chinese whiskey when she posted the men-bashing article. According to Smitta, “…she musta been on some seriously nasty ‘Glendfiddichk’, ama yule fake Hennessey anaitwa ‘China-Hen-See-Hee’”.

Here’s what he said;

ok, so my ole pal Ciku Muiruri said Kenyan dudes ain’t too hot, are broke n y’all lassies shd marry foreigners n protect the ‘species’ ( she musta been on some seriously nasty ‘Glendfiddichk’, ama yule fake Hennessey anaitwa ‘China-Hen-See-Hee’) lakini a lotta miro dudes here sema the lassies are ho ho ho like X-Mas, will shamelessly ask 4 cash after kugawa day one ka Kagawa, etc etc etc. Ni kweli, au la?/

Former Churchill Live Comedian Almost Get’s Thrown Out Of A Matatu After An Argument With The “Makanga” (Tout)

I just received some rather exclusive information regarding a comedian who used to appear on Churchill Live back when. Apparently, this comedian nearly got thrown out of a matatu simply for demanding that the crew observe the “Michuki laws”.

What I found odd is the fact that the crew were aided by passengers. Anyway, this is what unfolded:

Comedian throws out Excess Passengers out of an overloaded bus…. There was drama on Monday evening along Mombasa road when an already full Minibus headed to Nyayo Embakasi stopped to pick more passengers at Belle Vue.

A former NTV comedian (President Kibaki) objected but the crew could her none of it. When he insisted that the extra nine standing passengers must alight, some few passengers tried to shout him down. Determined, to have the extra passengers out, the comedian took the SACCO manager number from one of the small banners in the bus and called the SACCO manager, threatening to sue the Sacco if the extra passengers did not alight. Sensing danger, the crew had to stop the bus near Panari Hotel for the excess passengers to alight. As the journey continued the conductor and some of the passengers in the bus hurled insults at the comedian.

Its apparent that the war against Matatu madness cannot be won, with such kind off passengers who support errant matatu crews…….here is the comedian

As the journey continued the conductor and some of the passengers in the bus hurled insults at the comedian. Its apparent that the war against Matatu madness cannot be won, with such kind off passengers who support errant matatu crews…….here is the comedian

This Has To Be The Most Shocking Confession On Maina And King’ang’i In The Morning

Maina and King’ang’i has been a show that has allowed some of the dregs of society to air their twisted confessions but one certain lady in particular has stood out. One sadistic being has managed to chill my otherwise stoic spine and I had to comment about this issue.

Today, a certain female lady called in to tell Kenyans that she tortured her husband’s son by scalding his private parts with boiling water. The rather callous woman called in to regal the nation in her sadomasochist endeavour that saw her torture her step son.

And if you think my being shocked is nothing, well then gents and dimes, Maina and King’ang’i have heard it all. They have seen it all. But even they were shaken to the core. Maina Kageni took to his Facebook page to share just how shaken he was:

The morning conversation has taken a new twist …have you heard that lady who called in?? How can she damage a child like that? I cannot get myself over that. I cannot beleive she did that to a child. How can she do that to a small boy? Shock!

Kenyans on Twitter troll Tujuane Couple (PHOTO)

Kenyans on Twitter are a rather funny lot. They see humour where I would see none but sometime what they do crosses the line and becomes cruel but that isn’t the case today. Today, they have simply brightened up my otherwise “bleurgh” day.

They decided to troll the couple that was on Tujuane this past Tuesday and it was rather funny. But first, allow me to yarn. What do you think happens whenever the couples that we watch on Tujuane aren’t on air? Or what do you think happens after the date? Well, Allow me or rather allow Kenyans on Twitter to tell you what they do:

@droid254: this is what happened after the #Tujuane date http://t.co/jk7xRAAnV9“hahaaaaa, @mchoqozy dyu agree?

Very Rare Photo of All Comedy Superstars Hanging Out Together

We like to see rare photos of celebrities as much as the next guy.  In fact it’s kinda our job to report rare scenes in showbiz.  Which is why we thought it was pretty cool to see some of these moments captured on camera.  Moments that you probably thought wouldn’t happen.

Anyhow, we’ve stumbled upon a very rare and unseen photograph of Kenya’s most loved and funniest comedians, just casually hanging out together. Some of them sadly no longer have the traction they used to have, but they are all unquestionably icons and legends in comedy.

Here’s Jalang’o, Mama Kayai, Teacher Wanjiku and ‘Vioja Mahakamani’ Judge;

Is This Eric Omondi’s Look-Alike? (Photo)

Eric Omondi is one of the richest comedians in Kenya, but he was not born with a silver spoon, his is a rags to riches story.

Growing up impoverished, the comedian learned that comedy can be more than a meal ticket it could be his ticket to wealth. Eric Omondi has made his millions through hilarious jokes and lucrative deals and in the process earned him a huge number of followers

I found a rather interesting photo on his page of a guy who was this uncanny resemblance to the star, with even his signature moustache. Do you think this lad looks like Eric Omondi?Or has Eric Omondi pulled up an old photo of himself as a practical joke?

Kenyans On Twitter (KOT) Rally Against Mututho’s Rejection As NACADA Boss

We woke up to rather gloomy news that The National Security and Administration Committee had rejected John Mututho as chairman of National Authority for the Campaign Against Drug Abuse .The commission said that they cast him off due to his pending court cases. Biased moves in my opinion as our national leaders have pending cases at The Hague but are in power.

A few people threw a party over the rejection but a few concerned citizens were not too thrilled by the resolution made by The National Security and Administration Committee

LINDA ADONGO ‏@lindaadongo :Im a number one supporter of Mututho, after watching close pals and a family member struggle to beat this alcohol vice?we need him so bad!
Ochieng’ Vincent ‏@VinieO :Why are we so much against this man Mututho? Isn’t he only trying to call for sobriety in equal measures? NO?

Paskalia Awour ‏@passyattosh :Kenyans are funny always discarding useful people and keeping the useless ones why are pple fighting Mututho’s appointment?

Eshitsitswi ‏@amerix :So Mututho was REJECTED by the national assembly because of an ongoing court case but we VOTED Uhuru who has an ongoing court case!

lynette ‏@miss_muk:I don’t like Mututho and his methods, but i’ve come to understand him. Alcohol has wasted a whole generation of youth in Naivasha.

Laquishia wangui ‏@laquishia254:He is all about responsible consumption i guess guys dont get it RT “@VinieO: Mututho is not stopping you from drinking! PLEASE NOTE.”

Gitonga Kathurima ‏@KathurimaG :Parliament Committee will not clear Mututho for NACADA position because of Court Case. Some of MPs have Cases in Court.

Fred C. Kipkoech ‏@FredKipkoech:Among those who have been sidlined recently, l only sympathize with #Mututho. Will there be #MututhoEvictionPartySeason2 just asking

@VinieO Why do we dislike #Mututho yet he is out to SAVE LIVES. Lets be SOBER about this.”

Spartan {Inc} ‏@toddyonanda :Woe unto you if you require kidney or liver transplant! Kenyans of below 35 years won’t provide it! #Mututho rejection

Stephen Machua ‏@smachua :The rejection of #Mututho as NACADA boss shows the level of social backwardness we should expect in the next 4yrs.

I think That way ‏@henrynyash:There’ll always be Loud Music in Nairobi Mats coz it’s the lifestyle here ; Only #Mututho can change that. #Umoinner

Average Jöe ‏@alanmwendwa: I remember some other two guys who were allowed to vie for positions of power and yet they had/have pending court cases… #Mututho

32.3 billion Kenya shillings is an unbelievable amount of money given 1,000,000.00kshs is equivalent to 92,233,720,368,547,760.00 Zimbabwean dollars.

#1. You can buy citizenship in Malta

Malta has decided to sell it’s citizenship for the mere price of 350,000 Euros. But if you have 32.3 billion shillings, that would be a drop in the ocean!

1 Pagani Huayra supercar costs 1 million dollars. But if you had the amount of money KBC owes, you can buy 3. Spend dahda!

Million dollar items

#3. Buy Catalina Migliorini’s virginity ($780K)

Catalina -whoever_ decided to sell her virginity to the highest bidder and the asking price was 780,000$. But if you had the kind of money KBC owes, you can buy her and her two younger sisters and still have enough for a ranch in Nakuru.

She doesn’t look like she’d be worth the money though.

#4. Become a rapper and feature 2 Chainz on 30 of your songs.

It costs 100,00$ for a verse from 2 Chainz but if you had 3 million dollars somewhere, that shouldn’t be a real problem now should it?

#5. Buy your spouse the GinzaTanaka platinum purse

diamond handbag 12

Maybe she caught you cheating or you forgot your wedding day anniversary. You can simply buy her 3 of these.

#8. Forget all that, why not just buy the watch Jay Z wears?

Million dollar items

The Hublot Big Bang costs 1 million dollars and why wouldn’t it when it is entirely diamond encrusted? Jay Z got one from his wife. But with 3 million shillings should be able to get you one, me one and then you can give the third to whomever you please!

#9. Buy 3 Ghafla’s

MISTA_MAJANI_MEME.jpg
