Throw Back Thursday: Check Out Robert Alai From Back When His Struggle Was Ratchet (PHOTO)

Robert Alai… A name that conjures up mixed emotions. I know nary a person who doesn’t have an opinion on the man. And the fact that most do not know him is testimony to just how powerful the man is – he controls your emotions even though he doesn’t know you.

Well, before the man became a brand, he was a simple man. A man of humble means. he has come a long way but before all this, he was ratchet.

Aye, the man was into all the baggy clothes and huge block shoes that make you look asthough you had borrowed your clothes from your older brother. But we all start from somewhere aye?

And in the picture I he posted on social media, he was with his old boss and though he towers the tiny Asian man, he is still looking overwhelmed by his clothes.

Check out Robert Alai -the Robert Alai of years long gone below:

Check Out What Luxury Car Huddah Is Rolling In! (PHOTO)

Huddah Monroe is known as one of the most controversial figures in the Kenyan entertainment scene. That said, I have to express admiration for her “devil may care”, cavalier attitude towards life. It makes for numerous intrigues and some very juicy articles.

When she was in the Big Brother House last year, though her tenure was short lived, no one can say it was boring. She pulled all the stops. That’s just who Huddah is. More recently, she has been all around the world and her recent stop saw her touchdown in Nigeria.

While in Nigeria, you will not believe the type of car she has been rolling around in. It’s the latest Range Rover (2014 model just incase you’re still on last year’s model).

She recently took to social media to post a picture of the car and understandably, my jaws dropped. Check out the picture below:

Shove Off Wahu! Nameless Has Found Another African Beauty

Nameless has been silent for a minute and the last time he surfaced, he was in the studio, all alone with new born daughter. We had no idea what was going on but now we do. And it is rather interesting actually. See, when a man finds a new woman, he gets his hair done, gets a nice cologne on and dresses in his Sunday best.

Nameless has surfaced having done all that and he even took his new African beauty on a date. And what an event it was. He took her to Level 8 at the Best Western Hotel for a treat and it was all caught on tape.

The lad serenaded his lady love and it would seem that all thoughts of Wahu were forgotten as he lost himself in her eyes. Check out the video below:

Are All The Rumours About Strut It Afrika True? Find Out The Truth Of The Matter Here Part 2

The second part of Strut it Afrika’s official statement continues. It was too long for me to post as one article hence the need to break it up. Anyway, read on for the rest of the statement:

Quoting from the blog, “One of the Models James Kariago said,

“I have been with Strut It since its inception but I have never done any job!!!” expressing his dismay.”

Please pause and run through all the models that Strut It Afrika has ever signed on since its inception.

Do you see any model named James Kariago? No? That is because this model does not exist! Unless

Strut It Afrika has ghost models that it does not know of, this is absolutely rubbish.

Quoting from the blog, “Last year, Rnaze declared his love for a Toyota Marl X a car Model whose

Market Value is $. 3,000 (Ksh. 2.5M)!!

Where can a refugee get this kind of Money when he doesn’t have a job and depends on his parents

top take care of him?”

In that statement, they proceed to call the Managing Director of Strut It Afrika a refugee in Kenya.

We would like to kindly inform them that Moses Mukiibi, aka Rnaze is a legal East African Citizen

who has a work permit and is a former student at the United States International University – Africa.

Moses also comes from a very respectable family in Uganda. His father is a former Minister and

current Ambassador. Moses’ interest in the Mark X or as they call it, the “Marl X” is his own. We

believe a man can have desires, can he not?

Quoting from the blog, “We made a follow up on Rnaze who we realized is a Model with Versatile

Models Kenya which is one of the Leading Agencies in the Country.

The Managing Director Ray says.

“I know Rnaze very well, we’re the people who introduced him to Modelling world.

He Has done with us All his adverts”

Yes, Moses Rnaze Mukiibi is a former model of Versatile. They scouted him off the runway of the MR

& MISS USIU Pageant, 2009. However, Moses terminated his contract with Versatile in 2012. He cited

not being able to model anymore since he managed his own agency.

Quoting from the blog, “Well, Yeah I have heard about them Rnaze being the President but am not

sure if they are fully Fledged because Rnaze still calls us for Jobs and also comes for our Photo shoots

which are free”

“Am told he even uses the photo adverts he did with us to present to his clients as STRUT IT Jobs”

We at Strut It Afrika met with Raymond of Versatile today at around 4pm. He was surprised to

hear this and did not even know about this blog. You can confirm this by visiting their office which

is located at Phoenix House, Kenyatta Avenue. The last time Moses went for a versatile shoot was

Who is this person from USIU Moses Mukiibi supposedly owes 70,000 KES? Let them kindly state his

Quoting from the blog, “Some of the Leaders of Strut include

1. Joe (Malaika’s Boyfriend) also Maina Kageni’s house mate

2. Rishard Rashid.

3. Nick Mwaniki

All these cronies eat together.”

Please note all the people mentioned above are either former models or current models at Strut It

Afrika. They are not involved in the management of the company. The company solely run by Moses

Rnaze Mukiibi and Malaika Nnyanzi.

Jo Kisila is also not dating Malaika as foolishly stated here and he lives in Loresho with his family.

We would like to conclude by saying we hope you can now tell truth from false. This blog was written

by a person/people who clearly have ill intentions towards Strut It Afrika and have all their facts

wrong.

Yes, Strut It Afrika charges all the models that make it to the last round 8,000KES. This money caters

to the test shoots & training which take place over a period of 4 weeks before final selection of the

best. All these models are well informed that they will not all be selected. However, those who do

not make it go home with a wealth of experience, advice and great images to pursue their careers,

even without being part of Strut It Afrika. This process was created to help models with potential to

gain confidence and get great portfolios at a bargain. Only the best Make Up Artists, Hair Stylists and

Photographers are hired during Strut It Afrika shoots. This would otherwise cost models a whopping

30,000KES each.

We wish you all a pleasant new year and many blessings! Do not focus on people who do not wish

you well. Just keep moving forward.

Yours Sincerely,

Moses Mukiibi

Beef Season Returns: Khaligraph Jones Takes Shots At Octopizzo

Khaligraph Jones seems to be on a war footing early on in the year 2014 and he has Octopizzo in his sights. Lad has been taking shots and though they are subliminal, they aren’t too subtle.

The history behind all this is that back in the year past, earlier on in the year to be exact, Bamboo and Abbas were taking shots at Octo and as they were doing so, they brought up rappers whom they felt were better than Octo.

They had their own reasons for doing so and when they mentioned Khaligraph jones, they cited the fact that he can rap in English as one of their reasons. that story simmered down and we forgot about it until this year.

The lad from Kayole started taking shots at Kibera’s finest and I am sure Octo will not take this lying down. Check out what Khaligraph jones, one of the hottest rappers of the moment had to say:

What do you think about all that?

And The Drama at Ogopa Continues; CEO Vaguely Explains Why He Cancelled Contracts for All Artists

You’re all aware that Ogopa Deejays on Monday terminated, prematurely, contracts of some of its leading artists like Avril, Colonel Mustapha, Kenzo and Marya, aye? We pick up from where we left off on Tuesday.

So after spending the better part of Tuesday evening trying to get hold of the top dog at Ogopa Deejays, Lucas Bikedo, we finally reached him on phone, but this, after calling with a different number. Speaking to Lucas about why he decided to kick some of the best talents there is in the music scene from his stable and what prompted him to take such an action. However, answers were not forthcoming as he seemed in a hurry, an obvious reason that he was acquiescently dodging our questions.

mayra_avril1.jpg

Avril & Marya

He instead asked us to email him the questions with a promise that he will respond promptly, so we left him off the hook for a while.

However, nothing was forthcoming by close of business Wednesday and so we thought he’d played us.

Thursday afternoon, Lucas finally responds but doesn’t address the questions on everyone’s head. The under 200-word statement falls short of our expectation and is hugely vague;

Every now and then organizations do an internal review to evaluate performance against aspirations. During the review tough decisions need to be made and this may not sometimes be popular.

Part of our aspirations has been to identify nature and deliver talent that can compete beyond East Africa. In the past this has worked very well. However, the entertainment industry is rapidly changing and the investment involved to deliver a success story is getting bigger every day.

As a business, an investment should bring returns within an acceptable time frame. This will allow for additional investments resulting to growth. And this is only possible in an environment where the talent involved recognizes that whether you win or lose, you MUST always apply the best of yourself to the task at hand. Nothing can substitute hard-work, focus and discipline.

The current business model of signing talent is fraught with risks and has too many assumptions. Part of the ongoing review involves a re-look at this model and its relevance in the current circumstances.

Meanwhile, Kenzo is already receiving offers from rival production houses that are willing to take him up following the soap opera at Ogopa. Speaking to him, he confirms that he has been contacted by some of the top production houses, though remains tight-lipped who approached him. Kenzo is not only a singer but also a talented guitar player and songwriter and would be a valuable asset for any record label.

Kenzo_nu_2.jpg

Kenzo

Kenzo says he’s still weighing options and at the right time he will reveal his next move as he is still “regrouping”.

And the drama continues…

Are All The Rumours About Strut It Afrika True? Find Out The Truth Of The Matter Here Part 1

I have been seeing a blog post purporting to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but. Unfortunately, it is one sided and imbalanced. So I sought out the Strut It Africa officials to ask them for their side of the story. They obliged.

I also attempted to reach out to models who may be disgruntled after working with Strut It Africa but none was forthcoming. So I could only run this but given that it seeks to explain to the concerned members of the public their side of the story after the blog post savagely attacked the integrity of the brand Strut It Africa, I guess it balances out.

This is what the management of Strut It Africa had to say:

A STATEMENT FROM THE STRUT IT AFRIKA MANAGING DIRECTOR

Dear All,

It has come to our attention that a blog that goes by the name hottcrunch.blogspot.com has posted a

negative article about Strut It Afrika and some of its members.

We would like to urge all readers to please scrutinize this blog properly.

What is their source?

What is their angle?

Is this information reliable?

What about other topics posted by the blog?

It seems the only thing they could get right was the logo and images from our facebook page. Even

their grammar is questionable. Even after posting our logo, they still get our company name wrong

“Strut It Africa” is not “Strut It Afrika”.

Quoting from their blog, “Whenever Auditions are conducted, all the selected Models have to pay $.

100 (Ksh. 8,000) for a professional photo-shoot which apparently is not professional as it’s conducted

by themselves under the guide of Rnaze, Joe and Malaika. So basically No pro Photographer is called

in to do the Photos. They then edit these photos on Photoshop and post them online to attract more

admirers”

Firstly, Jo Kisila is a model at Strut it Afrika. He is not part of management and has never directed a

shoot by Strut It Afirka as insinuated by this blog.

Secondly, they go ahead to post images which were shot by Thomson Ncube, a photographer based

in Kenya who has been working closely with Strut It Afirka since 2012. They however argue that the

images were shot by Jo or Rnaze or Malaika.

Quoting from their blog, “For Starters, in the modelling world photos are the major selling point and

Serious Talent Agencies do not charge for this”

This was part of the response from Lyndsey of Surazuri Modeling Agency on their blog site:

“I don’t want to comment on the integrity of a rival agency, but I do wish to point out that agencies

worldwide do not generally do portfolio photo shoots for free. Sometimes the bigger international

agency outlay for this, but they deduct the cost from the model’s future earnings- Lyndsey of

Surazuri”.

Clearly the person/people writing this blog have no information whatsoever on how agencies run but

are out to mislead others.

Just How Close is Jaguar to President Uhuru? Check Him Out Seeing Him Off at the Airport (PHOTOS)

Photo-ops with celebrities are a time-honored presidential tradition. We already all know that Jaguar and President Kenya are BFFs. However, for Jaguar it’s on a whole new level; it more than photos. Last evening as Uhuru was leaving for Addis Ababa, Jaguar was there to see him off.

Some camera-worthy moments involving the commander-in-chief getting along Jaguar have been on the internet before and there were questions as to whether the ‘Kioo’ singer is one of the president’s advisors.

Sources close to Jaguar indicate that was at the Presidential Pavilion – a section reserved exclusively for the head of state whenever he’s at the airport – along with other government dignitaries among them the DP, Ruto and Senator Mike Sonko. He even had the honours of driving his car to the gates just next to where the president boards his jet and not having to go through the thorough screening.

Jaguar_president.jpg

Jaguar shares a word with Sonko & Ruto ahead of Uhuru’s arrival

Contacted Jaguar just laughed it off and only said, “Let the pics speak.”

Jaguar_president_2.jpg

Jaguar next to his car and the Presidential Jet

Jaguar is attributed for taking the entertainment to the next level by rubbing shoulders with the head of state, something that was never witnessed in the past.

Calvo Mistari Drops A Hot New Track. You Have Definitely Got To Check It Out Here (VIDEO)

Calvo Mistari has been in the entertainment industry for a minute now. the yob who was one third of Madaraka hiphop group Lyrical Assassins has been active for I dare say damn near 10 years. Sadly back then the group wasn’t getting airplay.

He decided to go back to the drawing board and he reinvented himself. He came back bigger and better. Let us now get to what is relevant: his new song “Umenimaliza”.

The track is actually very good. It is 3:59 minutes long and trust me when I say that it is worth the listen. Nothing about it is the same -save for Bobby Mapesa but we’ll get there shortly.

First off, the instrumentals are beautiful. They were done by Dillie of Grand Empire Studios. They have an Arabic or is it Hindu influence to them and I for one really appreciate the break from the monotonous single cell beats we have been assaulted by all through.

Calvo reached out to Mchizi Gaza for the chorus and he didn’t fail! The falsetto he sings in isn’t too strained. Then we get to the tale of Bobby Mapesa’s rapping.

The lad is rapping the same way he was back in 2002. It might just be me but I am not feeling it anymore. Especially after he showed that he can switch it up. The video is directed by Edu G and again, I feel alot more could have been done given the instrumentals. Maybe get girls to belly dance and whatnot. Maybe an Arabian theme or even a Hindi theme.

Anyway, so much for my opinion. Check out the video below and tell me what you think of it:

Exclusive: Radio Africa Raids 1 FM for Its Top News Anchor

Poaching in the Kenyan media industry is nothing new and millions of cash has been used to drive leading TV presenters from houses they’ve always been associated with to a new ‘home’. Well, Radio Africa Group has become the first media house to lead the onslaught this year.

After plucking Adelle Onyango and Tina Kaggia from the Barclays Plaza-based urban radio station, the Patrick Quarcoo-owned media giant seems not satisfied. According to reliable sources, Leah Mutimba, the only other news anchor (apart from Victor Oloo) is headed to Radio Africa Group on the same capacity.

Leah has been with Media Stream (One FM 97.1 & Hits FM 91.5) for close to 3 years and the new opportunity at RAG is a plus for her resume.

Apart from being a news anchor she describes herself as “a lady with a big heart” and true enough Leah runs a charity trust, Changamka Dada, whose overall goal is to provide sanitary towels and panties as well as counseling on health matters and personal challenges to underprivileged boys and girls in marginalized areas.

Following NTV’s Dennis Okari Expose JKIA Swings into Action

Last Sunday, NTV aired an eye-opening expose, A Terrorists’ Playground that unmasked the soft underbelly of security agents at installations around Nairobi. The expose, a brainchild of virtuoso investigative reporter – Dennis Okari – has been on the lips of Kenyans for 4 days now and had security agents scamper to put their houses in order.

In what has been viewed as a reflex action, the country’s major airport, JKIA, has tightened security in and around the airport.

Here are the changes;

“All the restaurants within JKIA to be put under 24 hour surveillance. An access control gate to be constructed

The potters & ground handlers operating in Airside areas to wear standard budges for easy identification.

All business entities including taxis within the airport to provide clear identification for all their workers & provide the same to police.

Screening of passengers & motorists entering the airport to commence about 2KM from JKIA main gate.

Airport North Road from by-pass flyover (Taj Mall) to be restricted to vehicles that have business at the airport.

Vehicles using Mombasa road JKIA diversion to be restricted to only those doing business at JKIA.

All members of the public & other airport users informed that they might be delayed at the checkpoint for up to 30 minutes for checks.”

There’s No Doubt that This Citizen TV Anchor is one of the Hottest Women in Kenya (PHOTO)

The list of the hottest women and TV anchors in Kenya has been well documented but after stumbling upon a photo of the delightful Terryanne Chebet, I’m of the strongest opinion that the list should be reviewed.

Earlier today, the screen-siren who has just rejoined Citizen TV from K24 uploaded her most magnificent photo yet on IG, and I dare say if she wasn’t on TV she would do extremely well on the runway, anyone who differs? No one!…Good!

Dumbala Remix Video Out. Check It Out Here

Ladies and gents, the video to the remix of Jay A’s smash hit song “Dumbala” is finally out. When I first heard the track, I immediately knew it was a from the Grand Pa think tank and from all indications, I feel is a sign that the lad is warming up to working with Grand Pa records full time.

While that is still speculation, what isn’t is that the lad made a sick remix but a disappointing video. i feel that this wasn’t the best work J. blessing could have done. the video for whatever reason missed Sage and as a substitute, they chose to add sections from the old video. I highly disagree with that approach.

The video also features super imposed cameos from DJ Andy which clearly looks like it was an afterthought. this is one video I am not too fond of from J. Blessings who is known for stellar videos.

The video however had a nice treat for people in the form of Amina dancing.

Check the video out below and let us know what you think of it:

Dennis Ndavi, One Of The Biggest Players In Kenya’s Entertainment Scene Is Bereaved: He Has Lost His Father

For those of you not in the know, or for those of you who only discovered Kenya’s fledgling entertainment scene, there is a man, a good man from what I hear who has been behind the scenes of Kenya’s entertainment scenes making moves called Denis Ndavi.

This man would be to Kenya’s entertainment scene who “the man behind the curtains” was in the Wizard of Oz. But sadly, this article is written in sombre moods as it is about the great loss Denis Ndavi has suffered.

The man who has worked at:

Media & Creative at National Olympic Committee of Kenya

Strategy & Creative Consultant at Creative Eye Africa

Commercial Director at Homeboyz Radio

MTV Networks

East Africa TV & Radio

98.4 Capital FM

Kimbia Card – Kenya Olympics 2012

Sadly, the man lost his father a few hours ago. His father was a broadcaster who served in VOK. Denis took to Facebook to mourn his father and from what I read, it was more of a celebration of a man whose life was well lived. Check out the printscreen below:

Who Exactly Is Radio Taifa, and Why Are They The 2nd Largest Radio Station In Kenya?

Started in 1953, KBC’s Radio Taifa is currently one of Kenya’s most trendy radio stations.

Meet Tahidi High’s Mr. Kilunda’s Beautiful Wife (PHOTOS)

He’s the short smokestack and overly uncompromising teacher on Citizen TV’s Tahidi High. If he’s not happy about the students’ performances in his Business Studies class, he’s jealous that they’re performing better in Teacher Karimi’s subject or busting mischievous students upto something fishy.

And it doesn’t stop there: Mr. Kilunda also has run-ins with fellow staff members. Notably, was the power struggle with the headteacher, Mr. Tembo over who should become the next deputy head. But if you think you’ve seen enough of Mr. Kilunda’s shenanigans, think again because they had a heated altercation with Teacher Karimi over a new female teacher.

kilunda1.jpg

Anyhow, behind all that drama is a one jovial man called Ted Kitana or T.K. among his peers. Like the rest of us he is in love and when he’s not on the screen he’s with his flame.

Say hello to Kilunda’s beautiful wife;

The words say it all…

From Ratchet To Expensive: If Kenya’s Top Radio Presenters Were Brands Of Alcohol, Here’s What They Would Be

I have been going through my older material posted right here on Ghafla when I was young, dumb and such a self righteous asshole and I loved the old me! Is it a wonder why back then I would get solicited for sex via the Ghafla hotline? I think I will get back to the old me. He was more exciting and by a mile too!

But this isn’t about that self assured asshole that I could easily get confused for, this is about Kenya’s biggest radio personalities and what type of alcohol they would be. I did an article similar to this one back in 2012 but I compared alcohol brands to celebrities. Today, let’s compare alcohol beverages to radio personalities:

#1. Bonoko -Keg

Let’s face it, Bonoko and Keg share such uncanny similarities; for starters they are both immensely popular with the “mashinani” crowd. Secondly, they are a guilty pleasure for up market types who like to act worldly.

#2. Peninah Muthoni Mbugua a.k.a PM(squared) -Blue Moon

The Inooro FM radio presenter appeals to ratchet folk but ratchet of a certain kind -the type to pretend that they are too cultured for keg… Or maybe it’s that they want to get high faster. Anyway, she would be Blue Moon.

#3. Cess Mutungi -Kibao

As my friend and colleague Vince said, “Jiyo pombe mtu akikunywa anoengea mingi!” (The drink that gets people speaking alot).

That just about sums Cess Mutungi up don’t you think? And I think I like her alot because we’re two peas in a pod.

#4. Mbusii -Kenya Cane

Mbusii still appeals to the grass root crowd but the thing you have to love about the lad is the finesse with which he does it. And add to that the fact that he never tries to pretend that this is not his niche audience and you have a humble winner.

#5. Mwalimu Rachel -Tequila Rose

Why is Mwalimu Rachel a 6 ana a half percent bottle of alcohol? Well, because she is not controversial. Plus she goes down well -vocally I mean! She is easy, on the ears! Heeby Jebus! Get your mind out of the gutter lads!

#6. Adelle Onyango -Baileys

I am reliably told by the lady drinkers in the office (Fox and Chege) that this is the ultimate fashion statement for young ladies who harbour great ambition, have recently graduated and love being seen at Blankets and Wine.

To me Adelle represents the best of the ladies aged between 24-27 – I haven’t seen anything good in women aged 28-35 yet!

#7. Shaffie Weru -Ciroc

If lShaffie were a bottle of alcohol he would undoubtedly be Ciroc. Why? Well because he is the toast of the town and celebrities love to flock his events -self same way they love to be photographed around a bottle of Ciroc!
Trust me, you aren’t an aspiring celebrity unless you have been spotted by paparazzi sipping Ciroc. Even I had my moments last year ith the brand!

#8. Caroline Mutoko -Moet

Caroline is the queen. This is the only drink befitting her status.

#9. Mzazi Willy M. Tuva -Jameson Reserve Select

I will admit that the last two positions were a toss up. I wasn’t sure who to give the ulimate spot to so I aske the team and this is the result of their vote. Why Jameson Select? Well, because he is popular but he is also a king and Jameson Reserve Select hapana ya mtu ovyo ovyo.

#10. Maina Kageni -Glenfiddich

glenfiddich-private-vintage_ddf.jpg

The king is here, the king is here! And not just any old Glenfiddich will do. he had tpo be something special! I would have chosen a more rare brand of whisky/whiskey but I am afraid I would lose you!

And there you have it! Now for a silly GIF with no relation whatsoever to the story!

Controversial Dance Hall Artiste Asks The Kenya Film Commission To Overrule Its Decision To “Ban” Show Me On Family Time

After firing salvos at a section of  entertainment Bigwigs, fast-rising dance hall artist, Blaqy, of the hit, Show Me is now after the Kenya Film Commission Board.

This is after his video was classified as ‘restricted’ in other words rated 18 years and above but the artiste thought his video had been banned.

The Board took to Facebook to deny allegations that it had banned the music video. This is what they had said ” KFCB did NOT ban/restrict the music video SHOW ME. The allegations that we did are FALSE. The video was rated 18+ and the certificate issued indicates as much. This means that any ADULT content should not be sold to minors or be screened on television between 5am – 10pm.”

Blaqy however doesnot think their decision was fair and sent this letter to the commission:

Caroline Mutoko Asks NTV’s Larry Madowo Out on a Date on Valentine’s Day in Public (PHOTO EVIDENCE)

Isn’t it obvious? If you’re rich and famous it’ll be hard to tell if someone wants to be with you for real love or for money and to get fame, could this be part of the reason why Kiss 100’s Caroline Mutoko is not seeing anyone? Anyhow, that’s story for another day. Today, however, the radio queen took everyone by surprise.

Caroline asked NTV’s Larry Madowo out on a date on Valentine’s Day. As if proving that she had nothing to hide, the sassy radio goddess did it in full glare of the public (read KOT).

“Hey you 🙂 I believe you and I need to get together. Valentine’s Day?”

And after Madowo responded to her requested, an elated Caroline came back to Twitter to make the announcement!

“hope my smile says everything. Asked @LarryMadowo out for a meal and he said yes”

And when Larry started receiving some female attention, Caroline candidly expressed her fears;

“Touche. Right back at you:-) I see new female interest directed@you. Should I be worried about our date?”

Do you think these two can make a good couple like we’d suggested HERE?
