When a king meets a queen you know that show is bound to be electrifying. One of Kenya’s Gospel Queens Emmy Kosgei was recently at the King of comedy’s backyard, Churchill show.

Churchill got her to open up about her choice to marry Nigerian Cleric despite his advanced age to which she replied that age was not a factor in choosing him as a spouse.He was a good focused guy and that is what drew her to him.

She also revealed that they had met at a concert in Mombasa she was performing way before Madubuko’s late wife passed away despite rumors that the 60 year old cleric was cheating on his late wife with Emmy.

Queried on whether she knew that she would be getting the sleek BMW ,Emmy said that it was a huge surprise,she was applying nail-polish when her husband called her out to surprise her with the pricey car.

In the interview Emmy revealed that her ring was diamond cast on white gold

She may have not won the 5 Million bounty but that is not stopping the girl from making great music. After producing hits such as Shine, Why and Hali Mahututi,,Amileena is back with Mawazo.

Last week saw Gospel worship singer and actress, Christine Ndela, was proposed to during the live recording of the Churchill Show at the Carnivore. On the same breath, yet another Gospel artiste is walking down the love path.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day and not the kind of love song you hear usually; Neema’s single Lets Fall in Love is not the usual boy-girl love tune, but is actually a song for Jesus.

Hot on the heels of her award winning single “Tambourine”, this single is a composition that needs a keen ear to understand its message; it proves that gospel music doesn’t have to always sound “churchy”.

According to Neema, the single is about “…returning to my First Love,” referencing her intimate relationship with Christ. This song is produced by the young and incredibly talented, now solo artist, Kus Ma (Camp Mulla and Subsahara Entertainment Ltd.), who describes Neema as, “…an awesome singer…songwriter who is very…creative. It was fun working with her.”

Get ready to fall in love all over again with Neema’s and Lets Fall in Love this Valentine’s Day.

Joel Sebunjo is one of Uganda’s most talented music exports he plays the Kora, the Endongo, the Kalimba and is also a singer. The Kora is a West Africa string harp built from a large calabash covered with cow skin; Joel learnt to play this instrument out of interest in what it can do and has now become the only artist in East Africa that has specialized in that instrument. The Endongo is a Ugandan bowl lyre made from the skin of a lizard.

The Kalimba is a thumb piano popular throughout sub-Saharan Africa. From those instruments alone you can tell that Joel is one artist with an affinity to traditional African music and his talents have taken him around the world. Known in Kampala as the ‘Youssou N’Dour’of Uganda, Joel Sebunjo has been instrumental in promoting and popularizing world music movement in that country. He has two albums all which are fusions of both East African and West African sounds and a celebration of music as a whole.

His first album Heart of a Griot was released in 2010 and his sophomore album Ganda Mande came out in 2012. Early in 2013 Joel Sebunjo won the prestigious Visas pour la Création Award in Paris, France that earned him a 3 month residence with many other artists in France. Through that time he met and worked with a long list of other artists from around the world. He has performed alongside legendary artistes like Yossou N’dour, Salif Keita, Miriam Makeba, Oliver Mtukudzi and many more.

Last week, Jimmy Gait and Papa Dennis released a video that has been on the lips of many for two weeks straight. The video, Makekes, shot in SA cost a whopping 2.5million shillings and that’s where the bone of contention lies.

Yesterday, Size 8 chimed in declaring that South Africans are more liberal than Kenyan when it comes to shooting their videos. She believes that the message in the song was fine but coming to the video it all depends with the culture and personal beliefs of the people watching, reports Ghetto Radio.

And now, yet another Gospel artiste has decided to voice their opinion over the now controversial video. Silas Mwenda, an award-winning Kenyan artiste living in the diaspora opines;

First and foremost, am the biggest fan of Jimmy Gait and i like his music as my brother and my fellow gospel artiste. Jimmy Gait is among the most creative gospel artiste we have in Kenya, many can bear me witness in that,. He always thinks outside the box, takes risks and sings song sometimes tackling very sensitive matters in our society which many fear to talk about especially in our Kenyan Christian setting. He always churns out surprise music.

In his newly released video Makekes , am sure he was taking risk as usual to introduce something new to us as usual. It might not be a bad style, maybe it’s not common way of doing it to our Kenyan Christians thus it got rejected.

Christianity as a religion just like other religions has its rules, dos and don’ts. I’ve travelled across the world and i can say Kenyan Christians are among the most God fearing, no nonsense and conservative people I have ever come across, especially when it comes to morality and doctrines.

If any person tries to bring a new gospel doctrine, style either in form of WORD or ART different from the common one people trash it as quick as possible. Kenyan Christians seems to be very serious with God so much, knows there rights and are never ready to compromise. That’s why people have been raising eyebrows on a lot stuff happening in the gospel industry lately.

My advice to all Kenyan gospel artiste both known and unknown; There is no PROFFESOR in God’s work, we are all servants and learning every day, we are human and bound to do mistakes here and there,. As you, continue to pray to God to give you wisdom to serve His people also kindly try and have a mentor next to you, a mature person in things of God whom you can ask for an advise on a thing before you act or speak it in public because when one Artiste is found in any kind of fault, the entire gospel fraternity is found in Fault.

Kenya’s first openly-gay gospel drag queen Joji Baro is not a happy man. This is because of the increasing number of pseudo lesbians and gays ‘coming out of the closet’ in order to promote their brand.

This is what Joji has to say to them :

“Those people who are pretending to be gays or lesbians so you can sell your musical; being gay or lesbian is not a tag or brand. It is more than just music. I haven’t seen doctors, lawyers and teachers doing the same.”

He then continues and adds ” You are a disgrace to denounce your sexuality to build your fanbase. No wonder some of you are losing contracts with your labels. Just be real and it would pay eventually. As for you who always say gays are hitting on you and that makes you sick, I think you are the one who is sick for sending wrong signals. Work out on your outfit-There are many fashion consultants to advice you better.”

Mzazi Willy M. Tuva is by far one of the most popular radio and TV personalities to be found in the country. His reach I dare say is rivaled by that of Equity. And he managed this by using the same strategy used by Equity with alot more finesse.

Hisia was one of the more favoured TPF contestants -atleast if you were to ask the girls whom they thought should have won. But if wishes were horses and all that. However, what I do know is that this is the ONLY Tanzanian I have met who is not only eloquent but can rival me when it comes to wooing a lass.

Hisia would like to announce to the world that his long awaited debut single is finally here. And seeing as it’s something for the ladies, he will be releasing it right at midnight to coincide with Valentines day. Bleurgh!

The track is called “Mawazo” and promises to be a track for all the lovers in the land. That means I will have on earplugs when it plays.

Today, as usual, Maina has begun our morning by discussing a hair raising topic that makes me an even stauncher love-atheist. I am beginning to believe that Kenyans are incapable of having honest unions -whether honest monogamous or polygamous unions. What I am hearing has left me feeling alot worse about 30-something year old men!

The specific call that got the entire ball rolling was a call yesterday was the fact that a caller called in and confessed on live radio to having been caught in bed with another woman after his wife came home from a praise and worship session.

So what is it about men that make them think their wives are naive? Especially men who married their peers from urban settings.
One man called in to say his wife found a used condom in his pockets and I am wondering whether this is a general depiction of the depth of stupidity Kenyan women have to put up with or this is an isolated incident. Why would you keep a used condom in your pocket? As a souvenir?

And before the women begin wagging their tongues to nag, allow me this one question; if it’s true that we marry people who are a reflection of us, how dense do you have to be to end up with a man like this?

Valentine’s day is this weekend. So here is your obligatory article on what you should and should not do on Valentines. Also, alcoblow is suspended on Friday, SO I guess do number one is….. Nah I’m kidding, be responsible. 

1. Don’t buy your girlfriend a cliche gift. Unless you’re both in primary school. Re-think about your terrible gift idea of “a single long stem rose for my single long stemmed rose” or a giant teddy bear. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

2. DO NOT post sickening overly romantic statuses or tweets about Valentine’s Day. You know what they say. If it’s too good to be true, it probably is. If you’re trying too hard to let everyone know how in love you are, you’re probably not. Send your over-emotive fellings in a text directly to your partner instead. And in the same breath:

DO NOT post bitter tweets or Facebook statuses about how much you hate Valentine’s Day (this goes for the singles and the dating too) You’re being a serious buzzkill for everyone. AND it comes across as if you are jealous of those actually pretty loved up. Just act like you don’t even know it’s happening; be content and happy with your single life/non-valentine celebrating coupledom

3. DO NOT do the most. Try too hard on this day, and you will be suffering for the rest of the year. If you can’t cook an egg, what makes you think you’ll cook lamb shanks and kiwi flan for homemade dinner? It will flop. (petpeeve, #StruggleFood on the gram. Just bin it. Or tag it to @cookingforbae) Or take your girl for a night in Naivasha with champers in your room, then next weekend when she just wants to do a movie, you’re blowing her off cuz you were tricking the last weekend. HAH! A good measure is: Is your date instagram-worthy. If it is, you’ve passed. Enough surprises to make a cute insta-pic collage, but not too much to be tricking, or too disastrous to be grammed. 

4. If you’re single, don’t feel the need to stay in. Have a night out with your friends, go for a lovely dinner somewhere (don’t forget restaurant week got extended), take yourself for a drink, host a dinner party for your friends. Being alone doesn’t mean being lonely. Enjoy your own company, or that of close friends. Either way, take advantage of the fact that your favourite hang out spots might be empty cuz all the couples will be in restaurants, so go to a nice bar and have a good time.

5. DO NOT overspend. We’ve all seen this by now.

This isn’t a birthday or Christmas, so don’t break bank trying to get an amazingly expensive gift. Just make sure you put some thought into whatever present you buy. (Rule #1 applies though. Get something that’s a little bit different to the usual chocolates or flowers)

6. DO NOT go on a first date on Valentine’s Day. It’s up in the air for this one. Apparently for some people it’s ok. So take this with a pinch of salt. My opinion: It could make things awkward because it’s putting quite a lot of pressure on both of you as it’s the very first time you’ve gone out together. The pressure will be EVERYWHERE! To get someone a gift who you don’t know it will progress past a second date, all the awkward assumptions that will happen to you at restaurants, bars, gift shops. The couples around you super loved up and y’all are trying to just know each other.

7. Do NOT, under any circumstances, call your ex. Just don’t do it. The only thing worse than drunk calling your ex, is sober calling your ex on Valentine’s Day. Can somebody spell PATHETIC?

8. Don’t complain or moan. Don’t ruin it by arguing or feeling sorry for yourself because of how much you spent. Don’t whine about how last year was much better than this year. Just enjoy it. It’s never that serious

9. Don’t wait until the last minute! It’s just stupid to wait until the day before Valentines to organise things and get your gifts, and try to make it seem like you had thought it out. This will just make you stressed and not enjoy any of it. It WILL lead to arguments with your partner. In this case, just do flowers, and go cook your significant other a meal at home, and hope dessert will do the trick *wink*. Keep it simple.

10. DO NOT forget to make reservations if you’re going out on Valentine’s Day. It may seem obvious, but don’t forget to actually reserve for the day/evening. Reminders on your phone, alarms every day of this week running up, sticky notes above your bed. DO NOT FORGET. You will NOT get a walk in to your favorite restaurant or your girls favorite restaurant. You will be the trifling person being turned away at the front door. DO NOT be that guy.
