Introducing, The Illest, Talented Dance And Acrobatic Crew In Kenya

If you want to see best performing arts in Nairobi, the Sarakasi Trust is the place to be.

sarakasi_all_stars_3.jpg

The all-round Sarakasi acrobats and dancers have performed locally, regionally and around the world and their shows range from traditional African to urban and contemporary and include, amongst others, ground acrobatics, juggling, balancing and aerial acts fused with unique dances and African and contemporary music. The shows are fast paced and spectacular leaving you in awe for more.

No matter where you come from, you will appreciate our artists performing acrobatic and dance shows including fusions thereof. Sarakasi’s in-house training and choreography team develops dance and acrobatic shows on client’s creative specifications as well as Sarakasi shows involving and fusing all performance disciplines.

sarakasi_5.jpg

Over the past ten years, Sarakasi has built a solid platform for developing East Africa’s natural performing talents into a world-class school for the performing arts. From its base at Sarakasi Dome in Nairobi, the Trust runs daily training programs for over 50 dancers and 30 acrobats. The dancers cover a range of disciplines that include traditional dance, cabaret, salsa, hip hop, street dance, jazz, and other modern contemporary dance, modern traditional dances, bollywood forms. Our acrobats are specialized in human pyramids, summersaults, balancing acts, hoops, limbo, fire acts, tight rope, pole/ pagan, clowning, aerial hoops, aerial silks, short trapeze and much more.

In 2005, our dance and acrobatic training program was rolled out to community centres, schools and children’s homes in Nairobi’s poorer slums – taking the joyous expression of dance and acrobatics to the young people in some of the city’s most downcast neighbourhoods.  Over time thousands of young people have either been directly trained or influenced by Sarakasi’s trainers since the program began, including homeless families, unemployed youths, and children working at dumpsites close to the training grounds.

Once these youngsters join Sarakasi’ formal training programs, they also benefit from open-door ‘classes’ in practical life skills such as reproductive health and income-generating activities. In Nairobi, the teenagers have become full-time ‘ambassadors’ in Sarakasi’s residential program, passing on their unique knowledge of the Oriental arts to other young Kenyans.

For more information on training, exchanges and performances, please contact the Sarakasi Trust on info@sarakasi.co.ke or pass by at the sarakasi Dome and ask for Rahim.

With All The Hubris About Bleaching, Lupita Nyong’o Makes It To People Magazine’s Most Beautiful List (VIDEO)

Yesterday, there was alot of hullabaloo about whether or not to bleach and I for one came out strongly to say that I do not care. Do whatever makes you feel more beautiful but for heaven’s sake, do not put down someone for being either darkskin or lightskin. That is where I personally catch feelings -and that said, I find darker skin toned Africans more attractive but that is just Uncle Chim Tuna and I will not impose my feelings on the next man.

But on that same breath, allow me to say that it seems that dark complexioned Africans stay winning with Lupita Nyong’o who has been announced as the cover of the next issue of the world’s most beautiful people according to People Magazine. Check out the picture below:

Soon after dropping the rather amazing track “Koolio”, STL was off to Europe but such is the life of a jet-setting celebrity. She was recently in London before heading back home in Norway. Mother In Law’s Celina Shows Off Her Figure In A Form Fitting Versace Dress (PHOTO)

Catherine Kamau is one of the most curvy women on Kenyan television and I for one feel that she adds alot of spice to the show. Her figure is just what the doctor ordered for Kenyan television and she knows this so she has been flaunting the physique. And I have one for team mafisi if that is still a thing anymore.

The lovely lass was in a figure hugging Versace dress that I hope was no fugazi but whatever the case, this lass has a figure for the days! Check her our below:

Bouncer Assaults His 6 Year Old Daughter, Goes Missing

Club Bouncers are rough and intimidating and generally ruthless especially to revelers. But what happens when they decide to turn against the very people they call family?

Well, recently, a bouncer attached to a club in Nairobi assaulted his 6 year old daughter for eating slowly and failing to read, reports Nairobi News.

The man, Joseph Omwoma was last seen by his neighbours at Githurai 44 on Saturday evening before he went missing. The 27 year old reporter has reportedly been living with his daughter, Sarah Otolo for a year after separating with his wife and he allegedly habitually assaulted his daughter during their stay together.

According to Fridah Ndinda, a neighbour, she was alerted of the abusive father by her son who used to play with Baby Sarah.

“My son came to me on Thursday last week and told me Sarah had been beaten up by his dad and was very sick,” said Fridah.

Fridah alerted a relative about the beatings. This was after Baby Sarah had not been seen outside for days.

Joyce Kusa, an aunt, found Sarah with a swollen eye. Upon questioning, the girl said her father had beaten her the previous night.

According to the doctor who attended to the young girl, the fracture may have been caused by a blunt object or being thrown on the wall.

The bouncer is still at large and police have launched a manhunt for him.

#SmirnoffFiesta: Nakuru, Get Ready For A Proper Party This Weekend

Nakuru is one of the best places to party. Or so I am told… This coming after I once lampooned Nakuru for being boring… But on this one, there is a chance at redemption. How? Well, I will be back in Nakuru for a party and I know this will be going down because it is a Smirnoff Fiesta party. And what pray tell is Uncle Chim Tuna dithering about?

I mean the hottest jams, the liveliest crowds and the best of the beach from boys with buff bods (chiseled physiques for the pensioners reading this) to attractive lasses in bikinis, this is a party you do not want to miss. Where will the beach be landing at? Taidys in Nakuru.

And this time, I know for a fact that the party will be kicking. Come out for a Smirnoff party and experience a proper party! Come out and enjoy proper music and the rest of the stuff I spoke of earlier. Come out and prove that Nakuru has what it takes and trust that Smirnoff will have you covered!

After just a few months marred by losses, Alex Furgerson’s  replacement David Moyes was fired yesterday.

Kenyan Rapper in Court for Being a Nuisance in UK

A Kenyan rapper living in the UK found himself in trouble after his neighbours protested about the loud music emanating from his apartment.

With booming bass and heavy hip hop beats thundering through their walls 24-hours a day, the neighbours of Elvis Turasinze, an aspiring rapper, were less than impressed, reports Daily Mail.

Now, after 18 months of noise, 15 visits from the council, one noise abatement order and one court appearance, Elvis has finally switched off his speakers – but says he still doesn’t understand what he did wrong.

“I just went to court with the truth, the truth being that I wasn’t causing no one a nuisance with the music,” says Elvis of the court appearance that finally put a stop to his music career. “I didn’t really get what they were talking about.”

Elvis_Turasinze_2.jpg

However, as Elvis claims to exonerate himself, his neighbours at the Dagenham Council block tell a different story.

“Many times I’ve thought I’ll go up there and say something but then I think, what if he turns on me? How am I going to deal with that? Sometimes it wouldn’t start until 1am so you’d think, hooray peace and quiet for one night, and then suddenly, it would start, and you’d think, what?!,”complains his disgruntled neighbor adding, “He was outside on his balcony one time and everything was quiet, then I heard him say, “F*** it! I’ll go acapella” and he started rapping to himself and his friends.”

After more than a year and a half of complaints and a noise abatement order that was repeatedly breached, Elvis found himself in court where he was handed a three month conditional discharge and a £1,000 fine.

Elvis_Turasinze.jpg

As a result, he was forced to shut down his studio and move it to his brother’s home in a suburban street a mile away.

“Now he’s stopped the music, I’ve got a much better life,” says his relieved neighbour. “Now I can go out, go to work, come home, relax and go to bed when I want.”

Elvis, however, has no plans to give up his musical career, even if he can’t do it from home.

Anne Kansiime Ruthlessly Deal Withs With ‘Her’ Mother-In-Law

Daughter in laws and Mother In Laws do not exactly have a reputation of being all buddy and Kansiiime Anne and her ‘Mother-In-Law’ are not any different.

The Don’t Mess With Kansiime star recently got a surprise visit from her ‘Mother-In-Law’ but it was the ‘Mother In Law’ who got the rudest shock of them all. Instead of Kanssime welcoming her in, she asked her why she decided to just pop in without even a pair of bed sheets since she scratched the last pair with her cracked feet.

After giving the ‘Mother-In-Law’ quite the earful she shuts her out, check out the full clip below

Vera Sidika Comes Back At Her Bleaching Haters!

Vera Sidika is one of the sexiest women in Kenya and I for one feel that her metamorphosis suits her. She seems happier with herself and that is all we can ever ask for -comfort in our own skin. But all this is all well and good as far as artificial insemination of heifers goes in Shinyalu. Let us get at it.

Earlier today, I highlighted the fact that Kenyans on Twitter were having a go at Vera Sidika as she enjoys herself in the Middle East and she has taken the time to reply in such fashion as to justify her claims that she is a diva. She took to her facebook profile to post a rebuttal to everyone with an opinion as to why she should or shouldn’t bleach:

You Have Only One Day To Submit Your Mobile Short Film!

You really don’t need expensive equipment like big film companies have to create a film. However, your talent and most importantly your creative instincts is what is required. Thanks to UP Magazine, in partnership with the Kenya Film Commission and Jameson for introducing a new and exciting category at the 5th season of the Kalasha Film and Television Awards, the Best Mobile Film Award. As UP Magazine states; The Award appeals to all creative documentary filmmakers who can tell a captivating story using their mobile phone. The Best Mobile Film Award was launched on the 11th of April 2014 at the PAWA 254 where the participants, film buffs and members of the film industry had a chance to know more about the new award category.

 10177355_853585031335132_4588495904308878748_n.jpg

According to UP Magazine The theme for the Best Mobile Film Award category is ‘Nairobi in Motion’. We are looking for stories that captivate and inspire. Are there people in your daily interactions whose story captivates you? What imagery do you see in your daily life that demonstrates the idea of ‘Nairobi in Motion’? What about Nairobi moves you, personally? The answers to one or more of these questions represent some of the ideas we are looking for. We are looking for stories where the mobile phone can help you enter a world that wouldn’t be as accessible with a full professional camera crew. This can be a portrait of a citizen of Nairobi that is fascinating—be it the matatu driver, the CEO, the local mama mboga at the market, a U.N. aid worker, a bartender or the next inventor of the next Facebook; even Nairobi itself can be the lead character in your story. It can also be a glimpse into a culture, an event, place or a person that is not often portrayed in the mainstream media.”

Submissions for the category is open until tomorrow 24th April. Winners will be announced at the award ceremony on June 28th.

Voluptuous Corazon Gets Support from Unlikely Quarter

Under fire trained-lawyer turned socialite, Lily Corazon, has found support from unlikely quarter. She has been on everyone’s lips after her photos went viral on social media for well…good and bad reasons.

However, most guys have been castigating her for baring it all on social media. While it’s true that she’s well endowed and does not shy to make suggestive poses, not everyone seems to be happy with her stunts.

And now, Ogopa Deejays’ singer Supasta Baby One has come out as Corazon’s knight in shining armour. He says;

“Apparently this chick big booty Corazon Kwamboka got it all, that’s the truth I don’t know why people are hating…accept the truth and move on…you can see her booty/hips are so original…seeing is believing as for me Corazon Kwamboka ako juu.”

Even though his sentiments were met with resistance, Baby One maintained,

she is beautiful and I will say that many times why should we hate our sister from another mother, she got it all,Jaymaster Kenya is right being a lawyer doesnt mean u can’t b a beautiful girl n do the girl thing, let’s not hate let’s support our sister she is a Kenyan and she is our own, let’s support n make her dream come true, come on I meant everyone/every girl has a dream….

And to Corazon;

“she is a lawyer and a socialite what a great talent proud of you big booty Corazon…keep you head up girl n do your thing we leave in a world full of critics…since everyone got his/her own critics don’t mind at all…PEACE

Do you agree with him?

Forget The Bleaching; No Make-up, no Creams; I am naturally hot!

Hey msupa! Are you beautiful even when you are mad and about to cry? Are you that kind of a person who looks hot with no make-up and zero beautification creams?

Where have you been? We have been looking for you. Hi, are you there?

Beauty is expansive. Beauty is expensive. Truth is, beauty is expansively expensive. Yes, how much people spend trying to look beautiful is quite amazing. The 5 Different Kinds of Male Dressers In Nairobi

As Ghafla ,we like giving platforms for other talented writers out there to express themselves; this is an article by Kanja Mwingirwa an Economics and Statistics graduate. Don’t be fooled by her degree of choice she is quite the gifted writer.

This is her take on Nairobi Men’s dressing

” They say the first thing you notice about a man is his shoes. I say, the shoes would make no sense matched with an ugly outfit. The streets of Nairobi are filled with men. Men in suits, men in shorts, men in vitenges, men in multicolored trousers, men in make up, men in skirts…ok…I’m lying, this is not Scotland! So I decided to categorize the men into groups according to their dressing…dichotomous key kind of thing, assuming you did Biology in high school. Here goes…

1. The Hustler- We all know him, the guy who does nothing specific for a living, the one who speaks real sheng not ‘fanyad’ and ‘endad’. He’s always in town and always in a rush to pick/deliver goods or meet an important client. This guy could be worth millions, if all those business deals actually exist…but his dressing does not seem to reflect that. The best way to identify him, is to look at his shoes, they are probably worn out rubbers that have made great friends with the roads of Nairobi. He’s also always in a T-shirt that may typically read ‘Mtu Hivi Hivi’!

2. Mr. Self Assured- He graduated with nothing less than honors, English, though his is heavily accented is the preferred language here. He probably did some Business related course, has finished CPA, CISA, ACCA and is currently doing CFA. His suits are usually crisp clean and a dark hue.

You can still see the line from the ironing the previous evening. He walks slowly, self assuredly, almost as if to say ‘I understand why you are staring’

3. The Fashionista– I’m telling you this guy should feature in Adams magazine (or whatever male oriented magazine is out there). He probably works in the media or fashion industry and chances are he runs a blog. You will see him in kitenges and the trendiest trousers at the time.

This guy has dyed his hair to some deep brown and sometimes he is in dreadlocks. This guy always smells nice. On the entertainment front, he always knows where to be and when!

4. The Cross dresser– This is not about sexual orientations, it is none of my business which one you belong to. However, there is this breed of guys in Nairobi carrying bags (I’m told they are called man bags), wearing gladiator sandals and skinny jeans.

He also does lip gloss and a touch of make up. Now, if you want us to take you seriously dude, less is more.

5. The Student- This is probably a student from Nai Uni (or is it THE University of Nairobi?) who walks around thinking the world is his because he receives helb. He probably lives in the Hostels on Mamlaka road and if you find him in town in slippers in the middle of the day..,. he literally lives in CBD, don’t judge!!

Dare To Bare: Citizen TV’s Terryanne Chebet Without Make-up (Photo)

Whenever there is a least of outstanding and phenomenal looking women in the country, be sure that business savvy bombshell Terryanne Chebet will be there.

As you are all aware a TV anchor has to get camera ready with concealer, blush, mascara and other kinds of makeup and Terryane is quite the beauty when she hits our television screens. So how does she look without the help of hair and makeup artists

A natural beauty, Terryanne does not look too different during her downtime from when she hits our screens all glammed up. Dare I say she looks better fresh faced.

Is Bleaching Wrong? The Case Of Vera Sidika’s Bleaching (PHOTOS)

When some random Cameroonian star attacked Lupita Nyong’o for being darkskinned and comfortable in her complexion, I was angry. To be honest, I was angered because I personally like darkskinned girls. I however do not begrudge the next man a taste of what he like be it lightskin, Indian or same-sex. It’s none of my business.

But I seem to be alone in my views judging from the comment section of the article. When Vera came out on instagram admitting to bleaching, I was happy she owns what makes her happy. She then took down the post but I still have it and you can check out the post below:

VERA_BLEACHING.jpg

vee_beibyThanks to my bleaching cream. No more traces of mosquito bites.

The way i view everything is pretty simple: “Live and let live”. You do you and leave me to be me. If Vera wants to bleach, that is on hber. Whether or not that is irresponsible, she is an adult who is fully aware of the risks and she has decided. Why would anyone tear at her for doing what makes her happy? Afterall, only she will face the repercussion if any.

I like darkskinned girls so I go for darkskinned girls. I do not attack my brother for liking lightskinned girls. I also do not care whether she has bleached or not. That is for her. We need to accept that people see beauty through different lenses.

I have a problem with someone putting down darkskinned girls though. I find it stupid. Most Africans in their natural complexion are dark. To then begin to humiliate a girl because she is natural is not just stupid, it’s cruel. To try to pressure a lass whether subtly or overtly is wrong. That is where I have a problem with this Cameroonian girl.

Let Vera be. She is free to bleach until she is translucent. Aslong as she isn’t breaking any law, let her be.

Some man i cant remember who, once classified women into 3 categories, girlfriend material, DTF material and Wife material.

Larry Madowo’s Critique of American Anti-God “Biblically-inspired” Film Awash with Sarcasm

It’s been labeled an ‘Anti-God’ movie by American theologists with several theologians writing scathing review of Darren Aronofsky’s 2014 movie “Noah”. Over the Easter weekend, “Noah” dropped completely out of the top ten at the box office with the unapologetically Christian “God’s Not Dead” (featuring Kenyan star, Benji Ochieng’) overtaking it.

But that was just the tip as more was on the way.

The official Vatican newspaper, L’Avennire, has labelled the movie a “missed opportunity” which ignores God, but stopped short of calling for a boycott of the controversial biblical epic.

This, despite the movie’s star Russell Crowe lobbying Pope Francis to watch it.

Its reviewer criticised Aronofksy for veering too far from the account of Noah in the book of Genesis in a verdict published last week ahead of the film’s Italian debut. The movie was also labelled “strange” and “perplexing” while admitting that it represented a “visually potent” piece.

And now NTV’s Larry Madowo has added his voice to the debate over “Noah” after watching it. In a sarcastic tone, Larry says he “can’t wait for them to correct the Jesus story as well.”

Here’s what he posted;

“I’m grateful to the movie Noah for opening my eyes to the many inaccuracies in the Bible. For instance, Noah was a murderous white American who grew fat and angrier as the days wore on. And he didn’t build the ark either, as was incorrectly written in the Bible. Some ginormous Transformers-like rock creatures basically did all the work while Noah spent his time refusing to let one of his sons Ham get a wife. Oh, and Methuselah was a surprisingly strong grandpa with supernatural powers and an annoying craving for berries. The movie also taught me that the people of the land eventually planned to kill Noah and take over the ark when the flood came but the moody rock creatures kept them away.

Though Noah didn’t take any fishes into the ark (but they survived anyway), Tubal-cain the evil leader of the people snuck into the ark, eating the animals inside raw and at will. He was eventually killed by Ham when the rain ended as Noah planned to kill his newborn twin granddaughters. Most of all, I learned from the movie that God’s intention all along was for creation to live alone on earth, without man. I’m eternally indebted to the makers of Noah for revising the Bible and adding all these important elements to a story that honestly always sounded a little improbable before this. I can’t wait for them to correct the Jesus story as well.”
