‘Vera Sidika Is an Embarrassment to Women ‘. ‘Takataka ‘ Orie Rogo Manduli Says

Ouch! That’s’ the word I would use to describe Orie Rogo Manduli”s opinion of socialites.She did not have any kind words to say and neither did she mince here words when describing Vera Sidika and her lot.

When queried by The Nairobian about the new breed of socialites most notably Vera this is what she had to say:

“I think they are all a bunch of takataka (rubbish). You media people are spawning something dangerous by promoting such characters. I think this Vera Sidika woman is very stupid. Shame on her. She is an embarrassment to women, and I feel sorry for her parents. I hope they tried their best to advise and guide her.”

“By bleaching herself,” she adds” It‘s obvious that she is ashamed to be black. If she‘s embarrassed of being black, why can‘t she just emigrate and live with people whose skin colour she considers ideal? Why come back to Africa and sell us her fake silicon behind? My daughters have posteriors that would probably bring Africa to a standstill! But they don‘t flaunt them in people‘s faces. Vera is the most despicable woman we have ever had in this country, and should be given a media blackout to protect our young girls from her bad influence and misguided ways.”

One thing is for sure, Vera has achieved what no Kenyan ‘socialite’ has managed to pull off, and she has gone global.

It’s sad that she had to lose her melanin, cough up a large amount of money, get butt implants and become a subject of ridicule, but she is FAMOUS! Isn’t that what they are all aiming for? Fame ? And the end justifies the means right?

2nd Edition of Gospel Podium was a Star-Studded Affair (PHOTOS)

The 2nd edition went down yesterday (11th June 2014) at Louis Leakey Auditorium, Museum Hill. As planned, a glamorous Red carpet and Cocktail started at 6pm, ushering the main event with doors opening at 6:45pm.

 

Gerriey Wainaina showed his saxophone expertise by playing the national Anthem.

The audience turned out in large numbers, which clearly indicates growth.  Various celebrities and personalities graced the event among them TV/Radio presenters, Gospel DJs /VJs, comedians, Artistes, Producers, Bloggers, reporters etc.

8 showcase artistes and 4 headliners took to the stage just as expected, with Ruth Matete showcasing her new video ‘Nakupenda’, Delana, ‘Nishike’, Zb from Eldoret ‘ Panguza Macho’, Kathule, ‘Jehova’, Dj Lapoz his new audio ‘inaweza’ his second after ‘Muganga’  which took local screens by STORM, New artist Sally Oyugi showcased her video ‘ Damu ya Yesu’,  Emma Omonge  ‘Wasudnyime’ and Mr. Seed  ‘Usikonde’.

Headliners also had their time with Pitson preforming his hit ‘Lingala ya Yesu’ ,and launching his new audio ‘ Kilele’,  Shiru wa Gp performed ‘agiginyani’ and ‘Mwako’ ,  Lilian Rotich her Kalenjin hit ‘inetkei’ and Mbuvi performed ‘Kwata Kawaya’ and launched his new video ‘Aningning Dance’

After getting booted out of TPF, Festus Kamau popularly known as Fess came back with an edgy pop single ‘Top of the World’ that catapulted him further to the top.

The charming young man that thrilled audiences all over the country during the sixth edition of Tusker Project Fame TV series is now making a debut into acting.

Kenyan Artist Working with Kendrick Lamar’s Producer

 Kenyan artist, Sanjei, based in Massachusetts, has collaborated with Brazilian producer Penacho, and U.S producer AfterTone, for two new songs to break his two year silence.

Music videos for both are being worked on by upcoming Boston film Producer, Brianna Gray, who is also working on the Kendrick Lamar “Money Trees” Fan Video.

Sanjei is currently pursuing his studies at the University of Massachusetts, Boston – majoring in Management Information Systems. He is working to get a scholarship from Harvard or Columbia University for his graduate studies in Technology Management.

Besides his education, he is expanding his international team and fan base. In his silence he has also gotten to meet with United Nations assistant secretary general Mr. Johnston Barkat who gave him advice on third world development and conflict management, which are also amongst his many career interests.

Well, we just found out what job comedian, radio host and tv show host, Obinna Ike Igwe had in mind if the fame and fortune thing never worked out for them. And it’s nothing close to the aforementioned careers.

Should TV have backfired, Obinna would be a painter and probably giving Peter Marangi a run for his cash. He revealed this the other day when he decided to do some paint work on his new dining set and disclosed how his “hustler days” taught him these skills.

She may have been portrayed as an undeniably beautiful but absolutely the most cruel and sadistic female these streets (read Twitter, FB and IG) has ever seen.

However, that’s the biggest misconception you realize when you get to know Huddah Monroe in person.

Anyhow, being a Throwback Thursday yesterday, the former BBA rep shared a photo of a deplorable house where she grew up and a short note that we feel you can all learn from.

She wrote;

“#TBTmajor This Is where I grew up! I’m not yet where I want to be but I am thankful and Thank God we don’t look like where we came from.

Your past truly doesn’t determine your future. If you are born poor thats NOT your will,but if you die poor that’s your own CHOICE!

Wake up and chase your dreams , you are responsible for your life and if you are sitting around waiting for somebody to save you or even help you, you are wasting your time! I believe there’s enough in the world for everybody, go out and get yours!

Why Eric Omondi is Not Amused by Kenyans

When it comes to a point where even comedians can no longer take jokes, you know things have hit the fan.

Comedian Eric Omondi is not amused by the way Kenyans treat their own talents. He opines that Kenyans have perfected the art of negatively criticizing instead of offering support.

Citing the recently concluded MAMAs where boy boy band, Sauti Sol, was nominated for an award, Eric is disappointed that instead of Kenyans voting for the boys, they were busy poking fun at their inability to clinch the ‘Best Group Africa’ category at the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA).

Here’s his statement;

“Hey my name is Eric Omondi…am a comedian. God has been good to me…His favor and Grace has enabled me to achieve a lot. I have managed
to travel to a few countries because of talent.

Now one thing that stands out about Nigeria, South Africa and the United States(some of the countries I’ve been privileged to visit) is their culture…The culture to support their own. They have a way of encouraging talent and we
have all seen the results.

My beloved countrymen have a way of killing talents, we don’t support, we hate, we criticise…We all rise up in arms whenever one of us either ‘fails’ or tries anything new…recently i was once again heartbroken when our own Sauti Sol were nominated for the MTV awards…

We didn’t vote, we didn’t wish them well…We ridiculed them on twitter as Nigerians and South Africans celebrated their own…no one will believe in your children until you do, KENYA.”

In most recent years we’ve seen an influx of talent search shows that attract contestants from all corners of this great nation.

Some of these shows have produced the best talents in music and TV some of whom have become household names. This seems to have energized organizers to come up with more of such shows.

Beginning August this year, a talent show is coming to place near you. The Next Superstar (TNS) seeks to discover and nurture talent in choreography, music and modelling.

With a Ksh500,000 price money at stake in each category, competition is expected to be stiff and those interested should register with the organizers ahead of the main event on 16th August at Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA).

Award-winning Kenyan documentary Donkey Island premieres on Al Jazeera English

This Sunday, Al Jazeera journeys to Lamu, off the coast of Mombasa, to meet the residents of the fascinating place known as Donkey Island.
 
Lamu is populated by 24,000 people, 6,000 donkeys and just two cars. Nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lamu is called ‘the donkey capital of Africa.’
 
Shee Famao is 14 and preparing to win his third donkey racing championship. His dream is to buy his own donkey. If he loses, however, the consequences will be dire. “I won’t be happy if I lose, because I won’t have money for food.”
 
The odds are stacked against Shee. As the only breadwinner for his family, he must juggle training for the race on a borrowed donkey with working to provide for his family and trying not to fall further behind at school, where he’s already in the third grade instead of the seventh.
 
Complicating things even more, Shee has a three-year probation hanging over his head for marijuana possession and his parole officer warns that he will be arrested if he competes, as donkey racers are being used to smuggle drugs.
 
Donkey Island won The Special Prize at Saratov Sufferings International Film Festival in Russia and Best Documentary Film at Golden Apricot International Film Festival.

This Gospel DJ Planning to Splash Over Sh180,000 on His Kid’s Birthday

The Journey That Is Fatherhood: DJ Creme’s Father’s Day Plans

I recently syndicated the tale of DJ Creme, a top billed DJ, MC and enterpreneur and father’s take on the journey that is fatherhood. The lad who is always on the grind trying to improve both he and his family’s lot and it will be no different this weekend. The lad whom I had the privilege of having a phone conversation with the lad during which he let me know just what he had cooking for his family.

 

But before that, allow me to give you some background on this. DJ Creme’s story on fatherhood was one of the most popular in terms of hits and I wanted to say “thank you” in my own way and wish him a happy father’s day and seeing as I wasn’t about to sit next to him by a camp fire somewhere exchanging soppy “ma-feelings” stories, I wanted to do something in my own way…

And men are beings of few words but I wasn’t about to hug it out either. I simply got him some whisky. Why? Because dads like whisky.

Marcus Kibukosya aka KusMa has been the super producer and a member of the critically acclaimed Kenyan super group Camp Mulla.

As producer he has produced hit after hit of cutting edge hip hop music in Kenya, and Africa. Kenyan E-Lab Entrepreneurs On CNN’s ‘African Start-Up’

With research indicating 10-20 percent of all computers sent to Kenya from abroad are unusable, the amount of electronic waste being disposed on a daily basis in the country is growing steadily.

On CNN International’s ‘African Start-Up’ this week, entrepreneurs Alex Mativo and Simon Mumo are profiled, the co-founders of an electronic waste lab dubbed, ‘E-Lab’ that is now boosting Kenya’s war against electronic waste.

Mativo and Mumo collect electronic waste like old computers, mobile phones and fridges, and turn them into pieces of art – like earrings, necklaces, and shoes.

“I came across a huge problem,a  nuisance, in society where people were dumping electronic waste, which is not biodegradable. So I was able to use art as a platform to initiate the campaign, I was able to transform what was once hazardous into something really amazing, to showcase to the world that we have the solutions to all our problems,” Mativo explains to ‘African Start-Up.’

It is the potential of creating art from discarded hardware that inspired Mativo and Mumo to create E-lab, and in so doing they not only contribute in helping Kenya manage its electronic waste but also earn their living.

“My market is basically the art fashion and the jua kali industry – from the fashion industry we’ve been able to generate good income which is brought back to the business and has enabled us to acquire premises and to buy the resources that we need to be able to grow the company,”  explains Mativo.

In addition to shoes and jewellery, E-lab makes furniture exclusively of metal and electronic waste, then sells it to local businesses.

Award-winning Kenyan Documentary Premieres on Al Jazeera

This Sunday, Al Jazeera journeys to Lamu, off the coast of Mombasa, to meet the residents of the fascinating place known as Donkey Island.

Lamu is populated by 24,000 people, 6,000 donkeys and just two cars. Nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lamu is called ‘the donkey capital of Africa.’

Shee Famao is 14 and preparing to win his third donkey racing championship. His dream is to buy his own donkey. If he loses, however, the consequences will be dire. “I won’t be happy if I lose, because I won’t have money for food.”

The odds are stacked against Shee. As the only breadwinner for his family, he must juggle training for the race on a borrowed donkey with working to provide for his family and trying not to fall further behind at school, where he’s already in the third grade instead of the seventh.

Complicating things even more, Shee has a three-year probation hanging over his head for marijuana possession and his parole officer warns that he will be arrested if he competes, as donkey racers are being used to smuggle drugs.
