Kenyan artistes performing at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington DC are excited about the prospects of being hosted by US First Lady Michelle Obama, reports The Standard.

This is after word went around among the Kenyan delegates that an invite had come through from White House.

“After all the drama, and our payment issues settled, we have been rocking this place and giving a truly good show to our fans here in the National Mall,” Afro-fusion musician, Olova Makadem told The Standard.

Makadem said the news that they would be meeting Obama’s wife has boosted their morale.

Beauty Queen Rachel Marete Proclaims, “I Am Not A Gold Digger”

Rachel Marete is one of the most outspoken female celebrities we have and the best thing about her is that this lass actually has knowledge to drop. For her speaking isn’t about 15 seconds of fame, it’s more about her articulating an intelligent thought that may rub some wrong but if whatever you do doesn’t elicit some sort of reaction then you’re not doing it right.

 And this was her take on the socialite craze that has hit Kenya in a big way:

http://photos-g.ak.instagram.com/hphotos-ak-xpa1/10508074_1458708527716966_1037820955_n.jpg

Sigh… I know two Kenyan girls out here in LA showing out like this. Insecurity is a bish! But you’re right, it ain’t none of my business… Those same girls (that I long cut out of my life by the way. Funny how negative people always find a way to snuggle close to people whose shining light they want to dim) also laugh at me for being too stupid to use my Miss Kenya title to get THINGS the way that they do. That has NEVER and will NEVER be me!

I can announce that proudly and publicly because it’s TRUE! I’d rather have my dignity and soul intact as I build slowly, steadily and firmly towards my future in my wonderful self earned Toyota Solara than sell my soul and drive Benzes and Rovers while battling mental issues for selling myself way too short. Anyone who knows me knows this. #realtalk. Off to bed early. Gotta work tomorrow. 4th of July too . I love my job though. GOOD HONEST WORK! Just the way my momma taught me

Former Tabasamu Actor’s Love Affair With a Cleaner Turns Bitter

Trapped is a hilarious comedy. Making their last show “Dangerous Affairs” seem like a prayer meeting by comparison.

Summary;

During his rehearses, interruptions bound; medical staff rehearsing their quartet dancing routines, his ex who was once a cleaner in the hospital comes with news that she gave birth to their daughter 16years ago who is now in search of her father and there is that small issue that his harsh wife knows nothing of the past liaison.

And in the spiraling chaos of deceit, false identity and manic cover-up that ensues, the mission is to avoid the daughter, pacify the ex, keep the chief specialist and hospital deputy director at bay and fend off various distractions, among them a patient from deep in the village excited by the goings-on and an inquisitive police officer.

K24 News Anchor Busted Misbehaving at Masaku 7s

Masaku 7s has been on everyone’s lips for the entire week now and the reasons are quite obvious. With an estimated 22,000 guys in attendance, drama would be inevitable. And much of it was on display.

Anyway, no one has been able to tell exactly what went down at Masaku 7s, the past weekend than social firebrand, Cabu Gah! Man, this guy painted a picture of what went down, no wonder he’ll be on The Trend tonight to recount events of last weekend.

So, according to Cabu Gah, a popular TV anchor attached to K24 was busted misbehaving at Masaku 7s during the mad traffic snarl up as guys were heading back to Nairobi. We prodded Cabu Gah for names but his lips were zipped only saying that the TV personality in question is a sports anchor.

Here’s his account;

“THE TRAFFIC JAM WAS SATANIC. As in,Satanic!

Barely 5 Kilometres after leaving Macha tao,We were caught up in the MOST SICKENING traffic Jam ever!!

From where I sat,I could see rows and rows of cars on the slim road…. the traffic was building up and by 10pm,NOBODY COULD USE THE MACHAKOS TOWN ROAD. NOBODY!!

Can You believe that,by 12 Midnight,We were still STUCK IN MACHAKOS???!!!*&%$??!!

Na tulianza safari 8.03!!

The traffic got so damn that guys shut their cars down,got out and started a party RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of the Road!!

Drinks flowed from All corners….

Music played from close to 100 cars along a stretch of 20 Kilometres plus…

Girls are now dancing and yelling and yelping! Guys are so wasted…..they are sleeping along the roadside.

And then as Vanessa grabbed my neck and started handling me like a plate of Mchele Ndengu,I heard someone yelling.

He was yelling hard and crazy! He was standing RIGHT in the Middle of the ROAD!!

He was surrounded by close to 15 Cars…He wouldn’t stop Yelling and banging cars and ordering people around…

“This is STUPID!!! STUPID!! What is wrong with Us?? Kenyans ,what is wrong with Us?? Dammit! We are ALL STUPID!! ALL OF US!!” He yelled ,banging cars. People’s cars.

“What is WRONG with You?? WHAT IS WROOONG with You?? What kind of drivers are You??? This TRAFFIC could have been avoided!! I have been here for 6 Hours!! For six hours!! This traffic could have been avoided!! What kind of drivers are You??? SHAME ON YOU,Man!!”

He kept screaming, banging cars, stomping his feet and shouting to the skies.

I looked close. Closer. Closer…Who is this guy?? And why is he so angry??

Everyone was now looking at him…staring at Him…

And then I realized who he was. It was a K24 News Anchor. I will Not reveal his Name. But EVERYONE who was there knows who he was….”

Catch The Trend tonight for the lowdown on Masaku 7s.

From Rags To Riches, The Transformation Of Octopizzo

Life in Kebera is no walk in the park. Kibera, the biggest slum in Eastern Africa is a rough area. And it is also a rich vein of talent having given Kenya some of it’s most talented artists and musicians. That said, Octopizzo grew up. That was his stomping ground for most of his life and probably would have been where you would find him today were it not for his mastery of lyrics.

And wordplay. And he too is all too familiar with this fact. He took to social media to celebrate just how far his talents have brought him:

Hunger of choice is a painful luxury; hunger of necessity is terrifying torture,Paris is the only city in the world where starving to death is still considered an art,But in Kibera Njaa inafanya unakaa Mzee kuliko miaka zako Mtuangu, this is me in 2001(njaa) & 2014 respectively
1 billion people in the world are chronically hungry. 1 billion people are overweight.
Today Thursday buy somebody food plizz,I’ll be in Kibera at 1pm the BASE Restaurant doing the same,Buy Food,and make a kid or a person Smile.

Ghafla! Exclusive: Sorry Guys, Citizen TV’s Janet Mbugua is officially off the Shelf. Check Out Her Engagement Ring

Citizen TV screen siren, Janet Mbugua, is officially off the shelf guys and will soon walk down the aisle. The enchanting TV anchor got engaged last week to the man of her dreams.

The extremely talented but down-to-earth anchor was wearing her engagement ring when she appeared on our TV screens and we couldn’t help but notice that there was a new development!

When Ghafla! exclusively spoke to her, Janet confirmed that she’s indeed engaged but wasn’t ready to divulge more information.

“Yes, I’m engaged but it’s too soon to speak about it,” said Janet adding, “I’m private, I’m low-key and that’s all am saying for now.”

When we tried to prod her to at least give us names, Janet wasn’t ready to budge.

“I don’t know. Am not saying not saying anything,” maintained a giggling Janet.

Clearly, this celebrated anchor proved a hard nut to crack so we asked whether she will be making the information public anytime soon and her response;

“I don’t know but if we feel like we’re comfortable we will,” responded Janet adding, “If he’s okay with it going public, then we definitely will.”

And here’s Janet’s rocking her engagement band;

Single No More! Pendo Has Found Love

I always get saddened when I write about this lass because I know her on a personal level and I have watched her let her talents decay. Pendo is an amazing vocalist who should be dropping hit song after hit song but she didn’t go for that route.

But I am genuinely happy to have seen something that I believe will be a positive influence on this immensely talented lass: she has found love. Aye, lass has found love and you know what they say about the power of love and how it can focus people… Anyway, check this out:

Hilarious! Kenyans On Twitter Are Trolling Mututho (PHOTO)

Honourable John Mututho isn’t a very popular man. And that was the situation even before he decided to take on Masaku 7s. But what can you say? Kenyans love their ratchetness and seeing as being ratchet is the order of the day, they have taken to social media to mock him.

And I have come across a rather hilarious picture that aptly pokes fun at the whole bid to fight Masaku 7s:

A few weeks back, Vera Sidika was making it onto headlines simply because she had opted to celebrate the fact that she had “toned” her skin complexion and I was shocked at how primitive some people can be when it comes to personal liberties.

I personally do not advocate for bleaching but the hell do I care about what someone does with their bodies. I learnt to respect everyone’s right to do what makes them happy. Anyway, she was on BBC defending her decision to bleach and the video of her at the BBC offices is below:

Check Out Mzazi Willy M. Tuva When He Was A Child (PHOTO)

Mzazi Willy M. Tuva is a force to be reckoned with as far as radio is concerned. His show is the most popular during it’s time slot and he is a face most people are familiar with and have learned to trust. But before he was the smooth voiced always smiling radio personality, he was a wee lad.

And a jovial lad at that. He seems not to have lost the ability to smile about anything and everyone gets to see his dental formula. You know the type of guy you want to be with when you’re in a fix because he will keep calm and have you believing the rain will give way to a beautiful rainbow:

Photo Of The Day: Miss Karun Back When She Was Just A Cute Little Girl

Miss Karun was one of the biggest female stars of last year. Before that, she was part of the super group Camp Mulla but they went their separate ways. And she is actually a very beautiful lass -even Octo is smitten.

But before she was the singing sensation she is today, she was a young child innocently staring at artefacts. Don’t know what I mean? You will from the picture below:

Open Letter To Mututho About His Attempts At Banning Masaku 7s

I’d start off by saying “top of the morning to you” but the morning is now just a distant memory. So I hope your evening is going well. That said, we are done with the niceties and pleasantries so we can now talk turkey. I read on Ghafla with some marked concern that you have decided to wage a war against Masaku 7s and couldn’t help but wonder whether you were serious of you were misquoted.

In any case, if you sir, are serious, then Kenya is in for dark days! Because your actions would be tantamount to an attempt at turning Kenya into a police state. And that is quite the step forward towards development isn’t it?
Why do I hold this concern? Because for you to appoint yourself the morality policeman is for you to sound the death knell of freedom of association and freedom of speech and self expression. Also, it would be a rather daft move because if history has proven anything, it is that proscribed events and goods flourish albeit on black markets.

Case in point would be what happened in America during the Prohibition Era and a case in point to defend my stance is what is currently going on in the state of Colorado.
Check out this link to understand what I am saying: Crime down and revenue up in Colorado since start of marijuana legalization

But the long and short of that report is that since the legalization of marijuana, crime has been on the steady decline.

Allow me to bring my argument full circle:

Your attempts at policing the morals of the youth will backfire horribly because you will make it cool to be ill behaved off of alcohol. You will it make seem like a cool way to rebel against the government.

Then there is the small part that you cannot appoint yourself moral policeman. What you can do is to sensitize people on the harmful effects of alcohol and leave it to them to decide. There needs to be a clear separation between state and private citizens lives.

Sauti Sol Shuts Down Netherlands (PHOTOS)

Top quality boy band, Sauti Sol, is in Netherlands for a series of concerts and they’ve been rocking at every concert they’ve performed at so far.

Last weekend the boys were in Tuchthuis, Eindhoven, and they failed not to impress. Here are some photos from that;

THROWBACK THURSDAY: DJ Creme Back In The Day (PHOTO)

DJ Creme has been around for eons! He was around back when I first begun to take a keen interest in DJs and music in general. And back then he was under DJ Stylez wings in the outfit Code Red. He was still green but there was no denying his talent even then.

I happened upon a picture of him from back in what I think was 2008 and he was at some gig in Carnivore complete with the full Code red regalia. And do you remember the time Code Red was beefing HomeBoyz DJs?
