Activist Bonface Mwangi Urges Kenyans To Stand With Jicho Pevu’s Mohamed Ali And Other Journalists

Kenyan journalists are an endangered species in Kenya, especially the investigative ones, after a bill was proposed to wag them and jail anyone who ‘undermines the security intelligence’ in the country.

The bill has since attracted rebuke from all quarters, with many arguing that the government is trying to be dictatorial.

This has forced activist Bonface Mwangi to call all Kenyans to stand for and with the likes of Mohammed Ali, his counterpart John Allan namu and other investigative journalists as the government seeks to silence them.

Mwangi says that journalists who go beyond press releases to reveal to Kenyans what is hidden should be protected and encouraged to do more.

Stripping Nazigi Driver and Conductor Now Face Death Penalty

Yesterday, the crew of Nazigi bus Sacco in which a female passenger was stripped and sexually assaulted, were charged with robbery with violence and sexual assault by the court.

The two, Nicholas Chege Mwangi and Meshack Mburu Mwangi denied they jointly with others not before the court robbed the 21-year-old woman in a bus on the night of 19th November at Millenium petrol station in Githurai 44.

The driver and conductor are accused of using violence to rob off and assault a female passenger whose identity the court ordered concealed. The prosecution said they robbed the woman of her personal effects valued at estimated Ksh 41,700 before they sexually molested her while recording the horrific incident.

The court charged Nicholas and Meshack with robbery with violence besides the sexual assault charges that the two were earlier charged with; they could now get the death penalty in addition to a 10-year jail term or enhanced life imprisonment if the prosecution secures a conviction for the two offences.

The accused were denied bail for their own safety due to the anger the video they uploaded elicited from members of the public, the court will however make a ruling on the same next week on Thursday.

War Of Words, Al Jazeera Responds After Threats From The Government

The now famous expose by Al Jazeera that showed how the government of Kenya is carrying out extra-judicial killings on those it suspects to jeopardize peace in the country has triggered a furious exchange between the government and the media house.

The government has since threatened to sue Al Jazeera for it terms as malicious and false information that is reckless and aimed at escalating further the already volatile level of security in the country.

And now Al Jazeera has given a rejoinder, defending its expose and warning the government of Kenya not to harass journalists involved in the expose.

Here is the full statement by Al Jazeera:

Al Jazeera Media Network is deeply concerned by the Government of Kenya’s threat to bring charges against those involved in the making of “Inside Kenya’s Death Squads”, broadcast on December 8.
Here’s Al Jazeera’s Response to statement by Government of Kenya.
Al Jazeera urges the Government of Kenya (GoK) not to attack journalists or to curtail freedom of speech, but instead to confront the serious allegations that its agents commit extra-judicial killings.

“Inside Kenya’s Death Squads”, produced by the network’s Investigative Unit, features the testimony of a number of members of Kenya’s counter terrorism units. Each states that the police assassinate suspects on government orders. They claim orders come from the National Security Council, a body chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The documentary was neither “malicious” nor “unethical”. Each point made by the GoK is erroneous and misinformed.

• The promotional material for the documentary never claimed death squads had killed 500 clerics.

• The programme gave the GoK ample opportunity to reply to the accusations and included its denials.

• The identities of all persons interviewed and documents released were checked and verified.

The investigation was the confirmation of an allegation that has been widespread in Kenya for many years:

• The International Criminal Court has spent more than four years examining evidence of extra-judicial killings said to have been committed by the President and his deputy. The case collapsed after the Prosecutor accused the GoK of “an unprecedented effort to intimidate and interfere with witnesses”.

• In 2009, Wikileaks published a document that provided evidence that over 500 young men were killed or made to disappear in a police campaign.

• The United Nations special rapporteur on extrajudicial executions, Philip Alston, declared in 2010: “I have received overwhelming testimony that there exists in Kenya a systematic, widespread and well-planned strategy to execute individuals.”

• In August 2014, Human Rights Watch issued a report that concluded: “There is strong evidence that Kenya’s Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) has carried out a series of extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances.”

• Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga said on December 9 in response to our investigation: “I have been in the National Security Council and I am aware that the government has a hit squad.”

The GoK accuses those involved in the production of violating “the democratic space which every Kenyan must protect to prevent our democracy from being appropriated by agents and/ or sympathizers of extremists and terrorist agenda.”

Al Jazeera rejects this claim.

While the team that conducted the investigation is based outside Kenya, the statement appears directed at journalists within the country who examine and report on government abuses.

We note that the GoK is proposing new legislation seeking to punish journalists who are found guilty of “undermining security operations”. According to reports, the Security Laws (Amendment) Bill 2014 seeks to jail such persons for up to three years or fine them five million Kenyan Shilling (55,000 USD) or both.

Al Jazeera defends the right of journalists to freedom of expression and condemns attempts to restrict the work of professional journalism. It stands by colleagues in the profession facing acts of aggression and harassment.

Did The Daily Nation Intentionally Omit Raila’s Story From Their Paper Or Was It a Genuine Mistake?

Today, The Daily Nation newspaper published a lead-in on the front page of their publication only for the story to be conspicuously missing on the intended page.

If you were keen while reading today’s publication of The Daily Nation, one thing you will realize is that Raila’s story on the front page is missing when you flip to page six where the full story was supposed to be.

daily nation on raila

That is one big mistake Kenya’s most read newspaper ought NOT to do, but was it an intentional omission or was it a genuine mistake? Before any newspaper is approved to be published, the editors have to go through the master copy, check for any mistakes, make necessary corrections and then approve it so that copies can be made from the master copy.

If The Daily Nation editors did go through today’s publication, then probably they saw Raila’s story missing. But how come they never noticed the missing story? Nation Media Group is a big media house to afford such a blunder.

Another interesting theory could be used to explain the missing story. The Daily Nation could have used the lead-in to boost sales, I don’t need to remind you Raila is a news maker, his name will probably attract many readers. If my theory is wrong, then why would they be advertising what they don’t offer?

Well, I don’t mean to raise any unnecessary speculations, fact remains that The Daily Nation made a mistake, whether intentional or unintentional and someone needed to remind them. And I did just that.

Is Kenya’s Hottest Athlete Mercy Cherono Single?

Mercy Cherono is without a doubt one of the most beautiful if not the most beautiful athlete we have in Kenya. And what’s more she bagged a gold medal at this year’s Commonwealth Games.

Her beauty and her success had Kenyans especially men on Twitter sliding up to her like:

hey_boo.png

But does this beautiful athlete have a man in her life?”Eve Woman sought to find this out.

Have you gotten yourself a better half?” Eve Woman asked.

To which Cherono replied:

“I do not want to answer that; it is personal. All I want now is to concentrate first in my career and for God to show me the way. In case I do not have a man now (laughs), I would want somebody who understands my career first, respects me, loves me, is caring and God-fearing.”

This Is Why Socialite Risper Faith Should Completely Forget About Singer Blaqy

It is time socialite Risper faith forgot about dance hall singer Blaqy if at all she had any feelings about him. This she should do immediately or risk a heart attack.

This is after singer Blaqy landed a new catch for himself, whom he is not shy to flaunt to the public.

We have exclusively acquired photos of the nice moments the singer and his new queen have been sharing since he broke up with the self-proclaimed socialite.

Blaqy’s relationship with the socialite turned sour when the singer accused her of stealing from him close to Kshs. 50,000.

It is a case that turned upside down the strong bond between the two and now it is quite evident that Blaqy has quickly moved on.

Risper and Blaqy featured in one of the singer’s videos where they are seen caressing and sharing nice moments together.

Blaqy has since then released a number of videos, the latest being the Dance Together one.

Here are some of the photos with his new catch:

Vanessa Mdee Returns Favour For Victoria Kimani. Isn’t This What We Want?

Yesterday Ghafla Kenya reported that Kenyan songbird Victoria Kimani had sent a congratulatory message to Tanzanian diva Vanessa Mdee after she released her new video Hawajui which is already doing well in the public.

To return the favours, Vanessa has now taken to her instagram account to show support for Victoria, who also released her new video yesterday.

Vanessa has lavished praise on Victoria and her latest video and encouraged her fans to watch the Kenyan queen’s latest release.

Vanessa says that Victoria deserves a round of applause for her latest release, which she describes as one of the best.

The Show, as the new video is called, left Vanessa sweating after watching it and thinks has earned Victoria the status of East African queen.

This is what she said:

“KIMANI KILLING SHOW HOTTDAMN GAAAHHHHHDAAAAAAAMMMMN #EASTAFRIKANQUEEN you gotta watch @victoriakimani brand new video for #Show CHAAAAAIIIIII! I was literally sweating watching this clip.Find link in her bio. Moment of silence for the #SupaMega @akaworldwide #Megacy

Did DJ Sadic Buy a High-End Silver Lamborghini? (Photos)

Mix Whiz, Deejay Sadic, has made tongues wagging because of the silver Lamborghini he was seen with.

Lamborghini is no cheap vehicle to own, as a matter of fact, I think no more than two Kenyans actually own one, and if there are people owning Lamborghinis, then they are probably hoarding them in their garage because they are SELDOM seen on Kenyan roads.

Dj Sadic was seen with one, silver Lamborghini, he even posted its photos on social media, Facebook and Instagram to be precise.

a.dj sadic3

But is the classy Italian-made machine his? The Lamborghini DJ Sadic posted photos with was not even in Kenya, the background scene just tells it all.

a.dj sadic2

The caption on DJ Sadic’s photo was loud; “My dreams are valid…”. So what dream is DJ Sadic talking about? Is it posing for a photo next to a Lamborghini or owning a Lamborghini?

Last night, Suzanna Owiyo, launched her new song and video “Wamiel” at club Tribeka which saw a huge turn up of fellow celebrities and fans.

Many thought Suzanna Owiyo would cancel the launch of her new song and video when her husband got shot by unknown thugs in Kisumu, but this was not to be the case. The singer soldiered on to launch “Wamiel” despite the traumatizing incident being fresh in her mind.

Club Tribeka was filled with fans eager to witness Suzanna officially launching her new song; celebrities too didn’t want to miss the action. Sauti Sol’s Polycarp, Mseto East Africa’s Mzazi Willy Tuva and the vibrant talented Ohanglaman, Makadem, were some of the celebrities who graced the event.

Victor Kanyari, Vera Sidika And Other Celebrities Who Have Been In The Biggest Scandals of 2014

In a country where outrage is the new black, controversy sells .And some Kenyan celebrities have really milked the controversy cow dry  through nude pics and other outrageous things but for others they are just unfortunate victims of sh**y luck.

Today we look at the people who have been in the news, but for all the wrong reasons.

1.Victor Kanyari

prayer_p.jpg

Kenya’s most infamous pastor/chemist takes the number one spot for his impeccable work at making the Church look like a freaking joke. For revealing to us that most of this so-called pastors are just after our hard-earned money. For reinforcing Carl Max’s quote that religion is a drug to the masses, opium if you will.

The self-proclaimed Prophet Kanyari made headlines after he was exposed badly by Jicho Pevu for a slew of fake miracles that employed the use of Potassium Permanganate, petroleum Jelly  and needles.

As if the fake miracles were not bad enough, he coached some of his followers into producing Oscar-worthy fake testimonies.

This comes hot on the heels of him telling a sickly  severely emaciated woman in his church to undress and walk in front of a mammoth congregation. In another incident, he tells another woman to unleash her breasts before groping them, right in front of his congregation and Kenyans since the show was broadcast on TV.

For being a perv and a con, Kanyari grabs the top spot, hands down!

2. Robert Alai

robertinside_261013.jpg

He has made a lot of controversial comments in the past so you shouldn’t be surprised to see him on this list.

One of his ‘gems’ include saying that he will get down on his knees and pray that women are raped in Kileleshwa to open their eyes to insecurity.

robertalai_rape.jpeg

A comment that had Kenyans on Twitter lash out at him.

But he was non- repentant and this year, he threw his weight behind the stripping of women saying that ‘all skimpily dressed women should be stripped’. This earned him the wrath of women everywhere most notably Esther Passaris who tweeted this:

pass.jpg

Alai being Alai tried to even the score with this:

wpid-screenshot_2014-11-13-09-04-56.png

Keep in mind this is not the first time that Alai has fought with prominent people on Twitter some of them quite dangerous.

3.Vera Sidika

Vera has had her share of controversy in the past but what shocked people the most was when she appeared on social media looking 50 Shades lighter. And she was unapologetic about it, in fact she went on to Larry Madowo’s #thetrend bragging that the procedure had cost her 50 Million shillings.

{youtube}mmLD5ztBEp4{/youtube}

And she asked Larry to feel if her butt was real live on air! Gasp! All these caused Kenyans to lambast her on Social media for her alleged gross misconduct, bragging and being a bad role model.

But Vera proved that she had saved the best for last when she showed off her knockers on social media.

About 1-2 months later a picture of Vera looking paler than Casper the friendly ghost surfaced online and she kind of took a break from social media most notably Instagram. She is back though; I wonder what she has in store for us come 2015…

4.Willy Paul

Some could call him the black sheep of gospel music. Because Willy Paul is always caught up in some hot-unchristian-mess.

Last year it was his sexcapade with controversial socialite Pendo and the alleged defilement of a 12 year old among others. This year he was accused of stealing a hit song and also paying girls to date him!

He may say that the blogs are trashing him, but he just can’t just seem to keep his skeletons in the closet, like a few other gospel artistes.

5.Njoki Chege

Be it taking shots at married women and blaming their fat and laziness on their husband’s cheating or firing salvos at men in blue Subaru Imprezzas, Njoki has always managed to make headlines for all the wrong reasons.

I have to admit, she ruined Blue Imprezza’s for a lot of people, and we cannot look at that car the same way. In fact she single-handedly made Imprezza’s shunned harder than a Probox or a Vitz.

These controversial comments have had KOT all up in her grill, but Njoki is not afraid of controversy and I doubt she will stop writing controversial stories. After all, controversy seem to be the eternal fountain of fame .

2 Weeks Down the Line, Kenyans Are Still Reacting to Malia Obama’s Pregnancy Hoax

Satire website, Empire News, broke the internet when one of its writer, Angela Baker, came up with a hoax that 16 years old president Obama’s eldest daughter, Malia, was expectant.

The false story about Malia Obama being pregnant spread like a wild bush fire; this was another heavy blow to the Obamas as they had just come out of another rant by Elizabeth Lauten who criticized Malia and Shasha for lacking “class”.

The hoax didn’t spark a heated talk in America only, Kenyans also reacted to it. The Insider published Malia’s fake pregnancy story today and still more Kenyans reacted to it. Check out some of the comments posted:

This Is How, Why, Where And When Ugandans Beat Us In This Game! Will We Catch Up? (Part 2)

Continued from: Part 1

When Eddy Kenzo released his hit song Sytia Loss a few months ago, little did he know that it would turn out to be the most liked song in East Africa and beyond. Little did Eddy know that Sytia Loss, sang in his native Ugandan language, could get the recognition of the international scene.

Another Nigerian song master, Davido, has followed in the footsteps of his countryman Wizkid and reached an agreement with the upcoming Go Down Low Ugandan singer Pallaso to do a collabo that from the look of things will be one of the most enthralling collabos between a Ugandan and a Nigerian.

For the last couple of days, Davido has pitched tent in Uganda, doing the collabo with Pallaso and after that, he has flown out, again promising us to wait. I mean us Kenyans. That, again, is hitting us below our belts.

Wasn’t Davido in Kenya the other day? Oh the other month? Or the other months? Did he not meet Kenyan artists? Why did he not do a collabo with any of them?

Back closer home. Tanzania’s Diamond is the closest pal Kenyan artistes have. However, it is so appalling that Diamond has made numerous trips to Nigeria and other African countries to meet artistes and do collabos. In fact he has never dreamed of one with a Kenyan singer. The last time he came closer to a Kenyan celebrity was when he lured Avril to appear in his song Kesho as a video vixen. That is the furthest Diamond has travelled with Kenyans. The singer has been within our territories for shows but has never dreamed of working with any of them. In fact it was reported that when he was requested to consider a collabo with Kenya’s gospel singer Bahati, Diamond refused outright, citing that their religions could hamper any efforts to work together. Well, that was a well crafted excuse which we swallowed with consent and moved on. Little did we realize that we had been played.

I can go on and on to show how Kenyan artists are ignored as other African artistes come together to make a name for themselves. Someone is already wondering why I am ignoring Victoria Kimani who has worked with various Nigerian and Tanzanian artistes. Well I have an answer for you. Victoria Kimani has a totally different style of singing from that most Kenyan artistes employ.

She has actually adopted almost everything Nigerian. She is Nigerian herself. Look at the Prokoto she did with Diamond and Ommy Dimpoz. That was Nigerian. Then there is the Show. Nigerian. And her latest release she did yesterday. Purely Nigerian.

These are the things that will attract Davido, Mafikizolo, Waje, Tiwa Savage, Chameleone, Diamond, Radio and Weasel, Iyanya, name them to work with Kenyans.

We can no longer hide our heads in the sand. We must speak out. I read somewhere that Rabbit walked out of a show when a certain producer asked him why Kenyans found Nigerian music appealing than Kenyan music. Fact is, Rabbit did not want to hear this truth. He had been poked on the wound. With a hot nail. Bitter truth.

This and many more things explain why Kenyan artistes will always lag behind as others make it big in the show biz industry. They hate the truth.

The other day my fellow writer Philip Etemesi wrote an article about Khaligraph Jones and Octopizzo. He simply said Octopizzo needs to up his game. Do you know what happened? Well, Octopizzo tweeted Etemesi and called him sorts of names. Etemesi took it in his stride as a man and knew he had done his job. The rest was upon Octopizzo.

Recently in the CHOAMVA awards Diamond scooped three awards. I wondered in an article why Kenyans were not in the nomination list. They were invited to award Tiwa Savage, Diamond and the rest. And to sing for them.

These are clear indications that we need to wake up as a country. We need to avoid copy-pasting. We need to be creative. We need to work hard. Jaguar and Sauti Sol have done remix of their songs with Iyanya but that is not enough. A lot needs to be done.

Accept positive criticism. Do good music. Work hard. Be creative. Socialize. Reach out to others.

Kenyan media should also avoid too much foreign content. Form anchors to music, embrace local talent. Promote it.

That way, we can lure more foreigners to work with us.

This Is How, Why, Where And WHen Ugandans Beat Us In This Game! Will We Catch Up? (Part 1)

When Eddy Kenzo released his hit song Sytia Loss a few months ago, little did he know that it would turn out to be the most liked song in East Africa and beyond. Little did Eddy know that Sytia Loss, sang in his native Ugandan language, could get the recognition of the international scene.

Well it did. In fact, Sytia Loss, to date, has over 6,700,000 views on you tube. This is not a mere feat to achieve in Africa and East Africa in particular. The views were even further boosted when US rapper P Diddy shared the Sytia Loss video on his social media page. This shows the sweetness Ugandan music contains. Despite Sytia Loss being sang in Luganda, it could get the attention of P Diddy. That explains a lot.

Uganda has seen great musicians make a name for themselves in the international scene. There is veteran Jose Chameleone who is without doubt Uganda’s top singer. Then there are the likes of Juliana Kanyomozi, Radio and Weasel, Bebe Cool, Pallaso, Sheebah, among many more.

Their songs have always entertained and captivated.

This perhaps explains why Kenya’s Nameless went all the way to learn Luganda and of course do a song on the same, a song which instantly became a hit. I heard some radio queen criticize Nameless for doing the song with a Ugandan. Well, I understood why. The radio queen herself is a musician so she probably was jealous that Nameless had overlooked her and her type to do a song in Luganda with Ugandans. This to me, again, explains why Ugandans are better than us.

Other artists from across Africa have been flocking Uganda to do collabos with Ugandan Artists. Remember, these very same artists have been to Kenya but never proposed for a collabo with Kenyan singers. In fact it is the Kenyan singers who request them to do remix of their songs to help catapult them to the international scene. You know the artists who have done remix with Nigerian artists and others for their songs.

Nigeria’s Wizkid has already done a collabo with Radio and Weasel and it won’t take long before we see the song in the shelves as Wizkid himself promised in his instagram account. The international singer said that the audio and visual were both ready and it won’t take long before they are out. What else do you expect from this combination except pure entertainment?

Remember Wizkid was in the country a few months ago but did you hear any rumour of a collabo with anyone? No. Never. This leaves so many questions amongst us. He crosses the border, strikes a deal with Radio and Weasel and asks us to wait. How shameful is that?

‘Asusu’ Producer Now Launches his Own Record Label

DK Kwenye Beat last year released ‘Asusu’ a song that was inspired by the tribulations of Job.

The song became an instant hit as many of us could relate to it and encouraged us to wait upon the Lord even when we are struck by calamities such as sickness, poverty and death. Plus the beat was pretty catchy!

DK Kwenye Beat

We all know that DK was the face and voice of the project but many don’t know that one Teddy B from Jumbo Records was the one who brought this sick beats to the song.

Teddy has informed us that he has left Jumbo Records.
He says that “I worked hard to bring the studio into the limelight but now it has stood up on its own feet and I have left Jumbo Sounds. To all my beat consumers, I now own my own record label ‘Signature Scope ‘ which is affordable and with much great musical techniques to give you the best.
I have a great Playlist coming on your way; expect many more tracks from Dk Kwenye beat, M.O.G, Bahati and others”

You should know one thing…..Kenya sio ya mama yako bwana….Yani last month you just shunned our country like that and you didn’t even bother to offer any explanations. Relax. I am not about to hurl insults at you .I ain’t feeling that type of way. You know what I’m taking bout? Anyway, I heard you will be performing in Nairobi this Friday. That’s great. At least the angst and tension of the preceding few weeks have dissipated. I’m prepared to “throw my hands in the air and wave ’em like I just don’t care.”

But first, just like a mboch, let me fill you with some moshene. Several conspiracy theories emerged on why you didn’t show up the previous time.

Some said the CIA warned you about a dangerous disease that was sweeping Africa. Some said you received a bo0ty call from a video vixen called Vivica Hendrix hence you couldn’t forego tapping that. Some even said that Drake was about to steal your girlfriend like he did with Tyga and Chris Brown. As a result you stayed behind to work things out and protect your bish from the claws of Drizzy. People talk in this country…people talk. Now to a few guidelines on survival in the 254

Be weary of the socialites. They will do anything to get in your hotel room. There’s one called Pendo and another one called Huddah – Dangerous chics those ones. I know I’m cockblocking some individuals here but dear Mr. Chainz, if you want to avoid sex scandals run for your life if you see those two. They treat ‘D’s as trophies. You have hustled so hard. You can’t afford to be brought down by a mere Kenyan socialite. Tell your bouncers to be on the lookout.

toa ujingaaaa

All the other women are good. The Njeris and Akinyis will confuse you more than Wiz Khalifa’s weed. They are armed with perfect posteriors and courage as well. They will scream for you and parade a sea of cleavages just next to the stage. Don’t forget your lyrics as a result. Some of our artistes will approach you for collabos too. Be nice to them

This country is addictive. The moment you taste those Maindi Chomas, you will be dreaming about Kenya every night. Wonder why one Alaine Wambui from Jamaica comes to visit so often? I think she just found a thirsty guy in Kayole who lied he would marry her. Her optimism is admirable. For your information, she’ll be in Nakuru the same night you’ll be performing. I can hear you saying, “Who the hell is Alaine?”

2 chainz2

Before I forget, take care of your chains bro or you might end up calling yourself One Chain by the time you are boarding a plane back to Atlanta. Since your jewelry is made from real carat gold and not like the fake ones our Oga brothers wrap around their necks, you’ll be a target for professional kauzis. Don’t dare throw caution to the wind or you might just see your missing chain being sold on OLX for ‘bei ya kuongea’. And there are no feds here to trace it here. The struggle is real. Karibu Kenya

Sa jua ya iyo story niaje ticko? Niko pabaya jo.

Sincerely

Philip Etemesi (Your baby mama’s favorite writer)

This is Why You May NEVER See Another Investigative Story by Mohammed Ali and John Allan Namu

The government plans to slap investigative journalists with a new law that will automatically clip their wings.

Investigative journalists have a big reason to worry if the proposed Security Law (amendment) Bill 2014 sees the light of the day; media freedom is being put on trial. The proposed Bill seeks to “tame” nosy investigative journalists who like poking their noses on government affairs.

Kenya’s undisputed kings of investigative journalism, Mohammed Ali and John Allan Namu, may soon find themselves without jobs. The two have always been a pain in the government’s neck; their exposé have always shaken the country to its roots.

Jicho Pevu and Inside Story’s reports have always conflicted with the government’s side of the story, exposé on disputed Presidential elections, West Gate massacre, “radical” Muslim clerics killings etc are some of the incidents that attracted government’s wrath on investigative journalists.

The proposed Security Law (amendment) Bill 2014 seeks to jail journalists who are found guilty of undermining government’s investigations or security operations through their broadcasts or publications. The Bill proposes such persons be jailed for 3 years or be fined 5 million shillings if found guilty.

Investigative journalists will have to seek authorization from the National Police Service before they could run their investigative pieces. This begs the question of how government will allow journalists to investigate it without interfering with the content of the investigative itself.

Want to be Famous? Well Ghafla Wants to Make you Famous and This is How #DesignYourDestiny

So the year is coming to an end and I bet you are reviewing your 2014 resolutions. Is being famous somewhere there in your list? Because if it is, we are about to make you famous or rather Equity wants to.

Are you a natural born fashion designer? Are you all about attracting attention globally with your timeless fashion pieces? Do you like the attention of the media or are you all about making lots of money?

Actually it’s possible to have it all in this scenario with the Vijana Na Equity initiative: an online, nationwide talent search that invites artists to showcase their unique abilities with their broad categories.

Before all this however, it is best you start by logging in here>>>VIJANA NA EQUITY and making your submission. Make sure to hurry as it closes down on the 15th.

From the 22nd, these submissions will go through a panel of judges where 40 contestants will be selected from the bunch. And you won’t believe who is making the selections. I’m talking the likes of Linda Muriithi; former Capital FM presenter and now Managing Director In The Bag, a company that organized two editions of a Fashion Week in Ethiopia-the hub of Africa Fashion Week. Basically she’s the epitome of fashion in East Africa if not the whole of Africa. There is also Franklin Saiyalel who is simply the leading male fashion blogger in the country. He keeps tabs on the latest International fashion trends and updates you through his various social media platforms. And there are not alone, other well acclaimed fashionistas will be in the line-up.

Once they make their selections, then you’ll be subjected to public voting which will last for 7 days. Yes, your designs will be put out there for everyone to sample and you can be lest assured it’s only moving forward from there henceforth. Even if you don’t get selected, someone will obviously notice giving you the perfect platform to start your own fashion line.

From the 12-14 of January 2015, the selected group will go through rigorous training before the ultimate winner is crowned and trust me you want to be that person. Apart from being the subject of discussion by the media and of course paparazzi’s crumbling to take photos of you, you’ll also get trained for free on financial management by Equity who we all know are the financial experts. This is important for the management of the business empire you’ll be scheduled to establish.

And that is not all. There will also be a fully paid trip to showcase your selection at the Hub of Africa Fashion week in Ethiopia among a myriad of other great prizes.

Now tell me whether that isn’t a dream come true and destiny fulfilled?

CABU GAH DIARIES: Of Papa Dennis,Prezzo,Baby One and Others….Flashy Music Videos DO NOT Mean You’ve Got Talent. No. Money Or Not,You’re Still A Flat,Talentless Slob.

There is this kid “causing ripples” in the Gospel Music Industry. With his hired Lamborghinis and exotic sceneries in his music video. And then there is this other one in the secular industry… With his OWN Lamborghinis and Chryslers and Ferraris. One is Papa Dennis. The other is Baby One.

I have some beef with primarily these two “artists”. But the beef extends to all these other good-for-nothing untalented profligates who think that, just because they can bamboozle the masses with an assembly of the flashiest cars and most bedazzling models in their “Music Videos” then they are musicians. NONSENSE.

The trend was started by the self-ordained King of Bling,Prezzo, who, way back in 2004,shook the feeble Kenyan Showbiz Industry by not only churning out the most meretricious music videos but also landing at a Teens Awards Ceremony in a hired chopper that cost him close to 100k for a 7-minute flight.

By that simple act of buffoonery and flashy ostentatiousness,Prezzo fooled the masses and duped the industry players that he actually HAD musical talent when all he had was improvident monkey tricks fueled by his moneyed mother and family businesses.

Prezzo NEVER had talent. Prezzo was NEVER a rapper…Or a songwriter. Or a singer. Or whatever he thinks he is/was.

He was simply a rich kid who, just because he had unfettered access to his family’s bottomless money pit, decided to plunge into the “Music Industry” in an attempt to further bloat his ego and command the whole industry.

His rap songs were worse than the sounds of a groaning pig. And his lyrical skills couldn’t rival a Class 4 Adventure composition.

He couldn’t rap. Or sing. Or write. Or anything. Infact, all he did was repeat the yawnsome line,”Nawapenda Wo” or the tired refrain “P-R-E-Z-Z-O” and boom!!! A star was born!

A fabulously wealthy star. But a hopelessly untalented one at that.

And with the advent of The Christ,Prezzo, along came others….two of whom I shall attempt to address.

One is this Papa Dennis kid with a pity story and an even pitier height.

According to his very media-savvy handlers,Papa Dennis is a former IDP who was “rescued” from the calamities of the tough IDP life to the grandeur of the glorious showbiz stardom.

Well,Papa Dennis’ story,if true,is inspiring and touching. We all love a good story.

The problem, however, set in when his handlers/managers/whatever encouraged him to start a music career. And,nudging him even further, promised to finance it to the last drop.

And by that simple act of lack of judgement and honesty,Papa Dennis started a music career.

A disastrous music career. I mean, let’s face it,Papa Dennis CAN’T sing. He never will. And never could.

But because he is supported and financed by a wealthy honcho,Sadat Muhindi, then, well,he is “talented”.

Papa Dennis’ music videos are filled with the loudest and most attention-grabbing statements of wealth and cash ever seen in a video. They are flashy as hell…Featuring the sleekest cars, best sceneries, most gorgeous women and grandest locations.

And,for 3 times now,Papa Dennis has shot his ostentatious music videos at exotic South African locations….spending millions on Lamborghinis and Ferraris and Bentleys. Ulalaaa,Behold,Tha Boss is here.

A Papa Dennis music video is almost exactly the same as that of say,Rick Ross,Meek Mill or DJ Khaled.

But just like DJ Khaleed,Papa Dennis is a talentless joke who,all he does in a song is yap and yodell and grumble and croak and grunt like a raccoon. As is evident in this song HERE.

I know village drunkards who can sing better than Papa Dennis. But Hey,He’s a fabulously wealthy individual …With deep pockets and endless supply of thousands of dollars to burn! Voila! He’s “Talented!”

Second case study is the egocentric Sudanese Playboy, Baby One Superstar. Baby One is Kenya’s Dan Bilzerian. He’s richer than a tiny countries’ President. And flashier than the whole Young Money Cash Money crew combined.

Ogopa DJs’ Flamboyant Singer Unveils Pimped Out ‘Movie Star’ Ride (PHOTOS)

baby_one_smart_1.jpg

Baby One for money. Real, hard, cold money. He could finance Your existence. And those of 6 of Your favorite siblings.

What Mr.Showbiz lacks,however,is talent.

You should watch Baby One’s “Music Videos” and see the high-end cars, women, locations, bikes,bikini-clad bombshells, yatches and hotels he flaunts in the videos.

Baby One spends millions and millions on music videos. But still has the talent of a dying goat at a slaughterhouse. Brother is a pathetic rapper/singer. As You can hear from this song HERE. Or this other one HERE.

And his every attempt at doing music is a painful, fruitless, useless and unlawful attempt on the poor lives of innocent listeners.

But just because he is rich and unbelievably wealthy, well,he is “TALENTED”. NONSENSE!

Not every rich kid can sing! Or rap! Stop assaulting us with Your good-for-nothing “songs”,Your crappy lyrics, lame choruses and deplorable verses.

We appreciate Your deep pockets…Or fat wallets. But we ain’t got nothin’ to do with Your dry throats.

And if You ain’t got nuthin’ meaningful to do with Your thousands of dollars, here’s my favorite charity Plan Canada Kenya. Donate some of that cash to these kids. They need it more than we need Your music. Especially over this December Holiday.

Money doesn’t equal talent. Talent equals talent.

I am sooooooo sick right now!

Magu Family Laid To Rest in a Mass Grave, This is How The Buried Looked Like (Photos)

A dark cloud engulfed Kiganjo village, Thika West Sub-county as the slain members Magu family were finally laid to rest.

The burial of a family of lawyer Paul Magu (35), his wife Lydia Wangui Ndau, (34), their children Ryan Ndau Magu, (9), Allen Muhiu Magu,( 8), and Tiffany Wambui Magu,( 5), was held yesterday at their home in Kiganjo village, Thika West Sub-county.

Mourners flocked the burial to bid the final goodbye to five members of Magu family whose deaths are still a mystery police are trying to solve. There are speculations that the father could have committed the heinous crime since he left a suicide note stating he couldn’t stand to live a life of ridicule and embarrassment.

Here are some photos from Mugo burial ceremony at Kiganjo village:

Ghafla Exclusive: Lulu Hassan’s Husband, Rashid Abdalla Is Now A News Anchor

Lulu Hassan is perched high on top of the A-list.

This is because of her mind-melting knowledge of the Swahili language which very few of us can boast of .Also the fact that she is one of Kenya’s most sought after news anchor does not hurt at all.

As it turns out, Lulu Hassan is not the only news anchor in the house; her husband will once again take to our screens on QTV. This is not the first time Rashid Abdalla has been on our screens having anchored Taarifa za Magharibi on Qtv.

Revealed: This Is What Cost Melvin Alusa And Sabina Staddler Their Places In The BBA Hotshots. Celebrities Shocked To Hear This

The Big Brother African came to a halt last weekend with Tanzania’s Idris Sultan winning the heavy award after three months in the house.

Disappointingly, Kenyan representatives left the show as early as two weeks into it, bringing Kenya’s participation in the continent’s biggest reality show to a conclusion.

Many of Melvin Alusa and Sabina Stadler’s followers were not pleased with the showing the two representatives portrayed in South Africa.

Alusa has, however, defended himself from the backlash he received from Kenyans over the same.

Speaking during the MultiChoice African Trending Launch at the Dusit D2 Hotel in Westlands last evening, Alusa said he failed because he simply tried to be himself in the BBA Hotshots show.

alusaaaa

“Being yourself in the house is not what they want. You must develop a certain character and stick to it, work on it and make sure you nurture it. That way you can go far. I lost because I tried to be myself, doing what I know best and that is how I failed,” Alusa said.

Accompanying him was Sabina who also took the opportunity to thank Kenyans for standing with them but said that had all Kenyans rallied behind them, they could have won the competition.

Other celebrities who graced the occasion include Elani, TV sirens Jamilah Mbugua of K24, Sarah Hassan (Tanya) and Capital’s Anita Nderu.

Meet The Woman Who Made Nameless A Star…

I have lived and listened, listened to scores of women recount harrowing tales of their mother’s-In-Law. The common tale has it that Mother’s-in-law are horrible, conniving, sadistic, devoid of feelings humans whose motive is to frustrate newly married brides by ,making their marriages living hell.

But there is an exception. David Mathenge’s (Nameless) mother has defied all the stereotypes set against Inlaws. Nameless took to celebrate his mother yesterday on social media citing that his mother and his wife got along ever so effortlessly. He went on to praise the woman that has been central to making him the star that he is today. 10848381_334480910071421_671638879_n.jpg

Tujuane Finally Premieres on Maisha Magic, It’s More Exciting Than Ever Before. See Why

East Africa’s freshest reality dating show premiered on Maisha Magic Channel 161 last night, the show was more exciting than ever before.

The beautiful Tanzanian, Salama Jabir, was a perfect replacement for Yvonne Bulimo, she blended well with her fellow co-host, Malonza, to make the first episode of Tujuane be electrifying.

Since the dating show crossed the border to host couples from across East Africa, Salama’s fluent Swahili was instrumental to the show, she brought onboard Tanzanian viewers who are accustomed to speaking Swahili.

The first couple to be featured on the show was from Tanzania as well, the pair had a nice “affordable” date (they eat ugali on their date and enjoyed ice cream).

Stay tuned on Maisha Magic Channel 161 to catch up with the dating show, it will be airing every Tuesdays.

South African Veteran Songbird Pays State House A Visit. What Exactly Is She Doing In Kenya?

Yvonne Chaka Chaka is arguably Africa’s living legend in the music industry after the likes of Miriam Makeba and other great musicians finished their races on earth.

The veteran songbird has great connections with Kenya, where she pays visits almost yearly, to share her love and music with her fans in the country.

Her great exploits in the music industry for long periods of time have put her on the international platform, earning her a job with the United Nations as Unicef’s goodwill ambassador.

This is why the singer paid State House a visit yesterday where she met with first lady Margaret Kenyatta and shared warm words between them.

The singer has been on a continental tour where she is giving messages of goodwill to the various countries in the continent from Unicef, a United Nations organization that looks into the well being of children and mothers in developing countries in the world.

Strip The Other Person At Your Own Risk. Here Is The Penalty For Perpetrators

The recent cases of stripping women in the streets by perverted individuals sparked massive outrage nationally and internationally, prompting demonstrations and heated debates on the security of women in Kenya.

The perpetrators of the heinous acts have since been arrested and judged in various courts in the country to serve as a warning to others planning to do the same.

However, to completely curb the vice, stringent laws have been proposed in a bill tabled in Parliament; laws that will see perpetrators spend 20 good years in jail if found guilty of stripping or harassing others.

women

The Security Laws Amendment Bill 2014 proposes that every person should be respected and that whoever found to strip the other person, male or female, without their consent, will face the full force of the law and be jailed for a minimum of 20 years.

Well, this can serve as the best justice for victims of the perverts.
