Something Big is Happening in Nairobi Tomorrow and This is Why Ghafla Thinks You Should be Part of it #DesignYourDestiny

So what exactly would you say has been the biggest game changer in Kenya’s entertainment industry in the year 2014? Is it Vera Sidika bleaching her skin and get a new pair of knockers or is it Wizkid performing in the country? Or maybe it’s the 2 Chains concert that went down the other day? Whatever you think it’s actually not as the biggest event is going down tomorrow and it’s all courtesy of Equity bank.

Through the Vijana Na Equity program, they plan on revolutionizing the whole industry by turning mere mortals into superstars. For those not yet, acquainted, the Vijana na Equity initiative: an online, nationwide talent search that invites artists to showcase their unique abilities within a broad of categories; basically they plan on turning you into a celebrity overnight; from the usual to playing the big leagues and they are starting off with you upcoming fashion designers, yes you!

The first step will involve logging in here>>>>Vijana na Equity website and making your submission; please make sure to hurry up as the deadline for the submissions closes on the 15th of this month. From there you can sit and relax, fingers crossed if I might add.

From the 22nd, these submissions will go through a panel of judges where 40 contestants will be selected from the bunch. And you won’t believe who is making the selections. I’m talking the likes of Linda Muriithi; former Capital FM presenter and now Managing Director InThe Bag, a company that organized two editions of a Fashion Week in Ethiopia-the hub of Africa Fashion Week. Basically she’s the epitome of fashion in East Africa if not the whole of Africa. There is also Franklin Saiyalel who is simply the leading male fashion blogger in the country. He keeps tabs on the latest International fashion trends and updates you through his various social media platforms. And there are not alone, other well acclaimed fashionistas will be in the lineup.

Once they make their selections, then you’ll be subjected to public voting which will last for 7 days. Yes, your designs will be put out there for everyone to sample and you can be lest assured it’s only moving forward from there henceforth. Even if you don’t get selected, someone will obviously notice giving you the perfect platform to start your own fashion line.

From the 12-14 of January 2015, the selected group will go through rigorous training before the ultimate winner is crowned and trust me you want to be that person. Apart from being the subject of discussion by the media and of course paparazzi’s crumbling to take photos of you, you’ll also get trained for free on financial management by Equity who we all know are the financial experts. This is important for the management of the business empire you’ll be scheduled to establish.

And that is not all. There will also be a fully paid trip to showcase your selection at the Hub of Africa Fashion week in Ethiopia among a myriad of other great prizes.

Now tell me whether that isn’t the biggest game changer of 2014?

Looking for a Weekend Plan? How About Joining All Your Favourite Celebrities in This Fun Activity #PesaChapChap

The prospects of December being more secure, 2 Chains in town and a whole of celebrations in tow, can this long weekend get any better? Well, it certainly can and this is courtesy of Sport Pesa

For all you footballers, I think we all know the biggest fete for the weekend is the big derby going down tomorrow afternoon; the battle between the reds- Liverpool and Manchester United. With the latter slowly gaining momentum and the former finding its ground, it’s definitely a match to watch out.

And Sport Pesa is out to make sure you enjoy your match to the fullest with some extra cash in your pocket. This is what I’m talking about;

Time                      Game ID                                  Game of the Day with Odds

16:30

7363

Manchester United 1.68

3.20

Liverpool 4.14

Assuming I am for Manchester United win which I am by the way, and I put 2000 bob on it,  this is the much I will make  immediately the match is over 2000X1.68=3,360 (An extra 1360 bob; another round of drinks) isn’t that fun?

Supposing I’m feeling neutral today because who knows! The Match might end up on a draw so I’m putting 1000 bob. This is the much I will make 1000X3.20= 3,200- now that’s a lot of money from just 1000 bob!

Now here is the complete plot twist if things go the liverpool way and I had placed a BET worth 500 bob only. This is how much I will make 500X4.14=2,070. Mind you from only 500 bob.

So there you have it, it can actually get better? Log into www.sportpesa.com and smile all the way to the bank tomorrow.

The Aftermath of The 2 Chains Concert; What You Need to Know #DesignYourDestiny

So the 2 Chains concert went down last night; great performances and a whole lot of excitement. And he really brought the house down dropping hit after hit as the crowd went wild. What really set him apart though was the aura of stardom he oozed out throughout the show. How he was dressed, how he talked and basically how he carried himself.

This got me thinking as to how many of you are seated home right now with so much talent and potential to be famous and attain world recognition to give the Atlanta star a run for his money. Is it possible? It wasn’t until Equity came to save the day and introduced the Vijana Na Equity initiative.

This is a platform aimed at nurturing talent and they are starting off with recognizing fashion designers so if you’re there and you think you’ve got it, make your submission and see yourself enter the highway to success. And please hurry since the submission close on Monday the 15th.

From the 22nd, these submissions will go through a panel of judges where 40 contestants will be selected from the bunch. And you won’t believe who is making the selections. I’m talking the likes of Linda Muriithi; former Capital FM presenter and now Managing Director in the Bag, a company that organized two editions of a Fashion Week in Ethiopia-the hub of Africa Fashion Week. The Reason Why You Should Take as Many Selfies At the 2 Chains Concert #GuinnessGameDaySelfies

Such a long weekend I must say. What to do, hmmmmm……any of you going to the 2 Chains concert? If you’re going, I suggest you get prepared to take selfies and a lot of them for that matter. If you’ll be sipping some Guinness even better as you can actually make some really good money through the Guinness Get Booked promotion or rather the Guinness Game Day Selfie.

This is basically a competition that rewards you for simply taking selfies. No way! That’s what I thought too until I took a selfie in my team’s T-shirt while sipping a cold Guinness and sent it to the Guinness Facebook page. Before I knew it, I had automatically won 5,000 in cash. Yes, just like that.

So how about you try it yourself as I’m pretty sure you have plans of catching up with football over the weekend if you don’t make it to 2 Chains. And not only that, if you get spotted by the Guinness crew, then you stand a chance to win Guinness merchandise. I’m talking 100,000 or a trip for two to the UK.

Now I don’t know about you but I’d like to find myself chilling in UK while watching my favourite team play and sipping a cold Guinness with David Moyes seated next to me. David Moyes is a frequenter in the UK right?

This Jamhuri Day Will Change Your Life and This is Why #DesignYourDestiny

Let me guess, you’ve just woken up and now you’re wondering how to spend your holiday weekend. Is to go visiting the folks? You did that last week. Is it the 2 Chains concert? You don’t even like 2 chains. Plus all the tickets have already sold out by now. How about dreaming? Dreaming for a brighter future full of fame and fortune and being the center of attraction because of your astounding talents.

Well, I’m here to tell you it’s possible, in a split of a second especially if fashion is your forte. Do you think you were born to be a fashion designer and you’ve always wondered how to go about it? Do you have some really nice designs lying around the house as you await to figure where to showcase them?

Then make your first bold step by logging in here>>>>Vijana na Equity website and making your submission; please make sure to hurry up as the deadline for the submissions closes on the 15th of this month. From there you can sit and relax, fingers crossed if I might add.

From the 22nd, these submissions will go through a panel of judges where 40 contestants will be selected from the bunch. And you won’t believe who is making the selections. Khaligraph Jones: Octopizzo is Intimidated By My Taking Over The 254

Khaligraph Jones has once again thrown his jibes at Octopizzo, it appears their beef isn’t ending any time soon.

Octopizzo’s nemesis, Khaligraph Jones, has opened the Pandora’s Box with his latest sneer, it seems their beef is deeply rooted that the two are irreconcilable.

The two antagonists cannot see eye to eye and in an interview with Ghafla! Khaligraph revealed the genesis to their rivalry was malevolence. “It is a matter of jealousy and people feeling intimidated other rappers coming through, you shouldn’t feel intimidated by my coming up, my taking over, because you had time to rein over the airwaves, it’s Khaligraph’s time to eat” Khaligraph explained.

The rapper comprehensively explained all that relates to his beef with Octopizzo in his track “I Run 254”. Check out the full interview here:

Is Controversial Event Organiser Locked Up At Shimo La Tewa Prison?

Shimo La Tewa is one of Kenya’s largest maximum-security prisons housing some of Kenya’s most violent offenders, including more than 100 convicted and suspected pirates.

Even the name ‘Shimo La Tewa’ is so ominous that some of Kenya’s most-hardened criminals shudder to enter there.
And its female counterpart is not any better so some of us wondered what Controversial event organiser and Nzumari Awards CEO Eve Adhiambo did to deserve imprisonment there.

This was after reports that her new abode was the Shimo La Tewa women’s prison.

But Eve has come out to rubbish claims she was imprisoned posting this on Facebook:

OMG am shocked receiving calls ati niko shimo la tewa hahahahaha jamani aki those spreading false rumors about me May the Lord punish u, like really what have I done to u mpaka u try tarnish my name to that level? Nway the bible says when u try to work hard and achieve ur goals pple will hate u, I leave it to God.

This Is Why If You Meet Wahu In The Streets Today You Will Not Recognise Her

Oh oh oh oh! How many times did I say that? Four? Sorry for losing myself even before I tell what I have seen in this woman. Oh I mean this songbird, Wahu. I am hoping Nameless has not heard, lest I lose my dentals describing how his wife looks these days.

I mean Wahu is a killer nowadays. This lady has opted to take a totally different look. I guess Nameless is not eating Wahu’s food. As in what he sees completely eats up his appetite.

Short and dark is what Wahu has chosen. I saw it coming when she, a month ago, posted her college identity card. She looked fabulous. I think I told her that in an article.

Her hair dresser deserves all credit. I mean Wahu looks fabulous in short dark hair. Very beautiful. Is this from her salon in Westlands?

Wahu tell our women. Where will they get this? I mean this hair. This style.

Do I have to preach? Have a look at this:

Way before generation-Sidika, there was a socialite whose lithe and sexy dance moves were unrivalled.

In actual fact no modern-day socialite can boast of twerking as well as Toxic. And twerking was not the only thing that she did, she also courted controversy and her name would be splattered all over Insyder magazine, Pulse and other weekly pullouts.
But along the way, she hang-up her socialite coat and decided twerking and shenanigans were not for her anymore. She got married and now has a two year old son Aide whom she confesses she would be scandalized if her son watched her twerk

This year, Daddy Owen’s music has received rave reviews both from music critics and fans and the King of Kapungala intends on closing this year with a bang.

This will be done in a special way, done in a never-seen-before in Kenya kind of way. Daddy Owen will release his fifth album, making him one of the few if not the only Kenyan musician to have released this.
In Kenya some people have been in the industry close to two decades and not even a mix tape has come from their side. So you can see why Daddy Owen’s album is  a BIG Deal. The album is expected to be released on the 31st of December at Thika Stadium.
Sharing a poster of the album release on Instagram, Daddy had this to say about the release of  his new album
Am not LUCKY. .. I am BLESSED. .
Am not a SUPERSTARS. . I am a MINISTER
This is not a CONCERT. . It’s an EXPERIENCE…

The Day TPF Stylist Sylvia Njoki Met Queen Ifrica (Photo)

Queen Ifrica is known mostly for her song “Daddy” which talks about sexual abuse in a family and the very controversial “Keep it to yourself” a  blatantly homophobic song that had the gay community up in arms.

The daughter of Ska music legend Derrick Morgan has managed to create a name for herself beyond the hills above Montego Bay, Jamaica. She has fans from her home country to Kenya and to Canada.

The Jamaican starlet a while ago met Sylvia Njoki a blogger and stylist and Sylvia really gushed about her saying:

#TBT to when I met #queenifrica at the #Kingston airport. … #starstruck but she was so sweet and down to earth. #jamaica #queenifrika

Why Wyre Is A Genius Who Deserves More Appreciation Than He Gets

Dancehall artiste Wyre is a veteran in Kenya’s music industry. He’s a pioneer who deserves to be tattooed the word ‘legend’. But the truth is he doesn’t get as much credit as he deserves. From time to time, he falls prey to criticism but personally I feel Wyre is an artiste that should be immune to that. Everything he has achieved can’t be easily emulated. The laid back superstar boasts of one thing many artistes only dream of – longevity.

Neither has Wyre faded nor has he failed. A decade after starting out, he still manages to release good music. Thousands have grown from kids to parents while still keeping up with Wyre’s slew of street anthems. Despite his incredible feats, he has never been on Diamond or Davidp levels of superstardom. Why is that?

Is it because the love for Dancehall isn’t spread across Africa? It’s highly unlikely. There are many genres that have limited reach but the hit makers behind them still acquire international fame. I think there’s something about an artiste’s physical and personal appeal that determines how fans view them. Some artistes are respected while others are adored.

A comparison between our artiste in question Redsan for example can be ideal. Wyre is respected but not adored. People don’t get excited about him they way they do about other big stars. Redsan is adored more than Wyre despite having done less in his career. Methinks you have to look a certain way and carry a celeb attitude with you. Despite’s Wyre’s gigantic strides, he’s still humble like the teacher’s favorite school kid. He just won’t have scandals or interesting news. Someone like him ought to have an ego and wild attitude but the love child won’t have any of that.

waishhhhhh

That fact right there leads me to another point. Artistes ought to be newsworthy. You have to keep doing stuff that’ll keep you in the headlines. Wyre doesn’t do that. The only time you see his name in blogs is when he has been nominated for some award or when he has done a collabo with an international artiste. There’s just no juicy stuff. No accusations for him to come clean on. This pulls down the scale on his ‘likometer’(popularity metre)

Ever since Wyre started out, his career has ranged from pretty good to very good, and he has showed change and evolution in theme. Despite being a dancehall artiste, he has never hesitated to jump into other genres. Recently, he even did a remix of Kanda Bongo Man’s ‘Inde Monie’, approved by the man behind the original track. ’That’s jam that was a super hit in the 90s. What’s the definition of a complete hit maker? There you have it.

Everything Wyre does spells hard work. Many are willing to pick the fruits but not many are willing to put in the work thus the former Necessary Noize membe’s efforts should be lauded rather than shoved into normalcy.

Wyre’s former Necessary Noize mate, Nazizi vanished into oblivion and so have most of the strong artistes who started out with him. Perhaps only Jua Cali is managing to cling on to relevancy. The guy still jumps on stage with the same energy that he used to have 8 years ago. Others got tired and left the playground for the new kids. As all this happens, the love child in his own league, keeps doing what he does best.

Big Up Wyre

“We Should Come With A Film Depicting Pastor Kanyari and Religion in General” Says Larry Madowo

Religion has been a bone of contention for a while now as even militants are trying to use it to divide Kenyans and gain their interests.

Kanyari and his accomplices have gained massive wealth from their congregants by making them believe that their help will come when they part with colossal sums of money.

Prophets like David Owuor have garnered unmentionable followings in the country and beyond, thanks to their strong and convincing messages that many have embraced and altered their ways of life in a big deal.

Mosques in Mombasa have been raided by police, assorted weaponry impounded as worshipers pretend to be worshiping but in real sense are helping Al Shabaab carry out their heinous activities in the country.

DNKANYARI0411A

Pastor Victor Kanyari

This and many more are the reasons why Larry Madowo, in his Daily Nation column, is wondering why nobody has ever had a thought of coming with a movie/film The Real Preachers Of Africa.

larry

“You know who else calls himself a prophet? T. B. Joshua, the Nigerian preacher. Their styles might differ from that of noted chemist, sorry, preacher Victor Kanyari’s, but the ends appear to be the same. Why someone isn’t shooting The Real Preachers of Africa, a hit reality series with these characters, is an indictment of our creative industry.”

Madowo says that religion is the epitome of almost all tragedies befalling Kenya today as he feels people have used it in one way or the other to benefit themselves or subject others to problems.

Madowo says that such a film will help highlight the evils committed by rogue religious clerics and preachers and by doing so will help all people understand what religion really is.

His article is titled How Religion Is Poisoning Everything In Kenya.

Has Alaine Found Her Wafula At Kiss TV? (Photo)

Of all artistes, I think Alaine is one of my absolute favorites. She is so down to earth, funny and with so much energy that it makes you go like “Pass me what she is puffing”.

She is like a breath of fresh air since many musicians some with just one hit song are diva-ish, throwing tantrums and making insane demands like 4 unicorns, 6 purple poodles and a few bottles of Acqua di Cristallo Tributo a Modigliani.

Aline’s qualities that have made her a favorite in Kenya and the Nakupenda Pia hit maker came back to Kenya, to perform and apparently look for her Wafula .(You know what they say about Luhya men *wink *wink*)

But it seems that she may have to settle for a Kiptoo. The Kiss TV presenter posted this photo along with the caption:

Alaine seems to have found her Wafula! Lol., anyway it was so much fun having you on the show tonight! Beauty! #NuffLove

Mother Love: Diamond’s Mother Drives Him To the Airport As He Flies To Kenya For Jamhuri (Photo)

What a feeling when one knows exactly what their mother feels about them! There is nothing as exciting as when you know someone loves you dearly. And not just someone but your own mother.

This is exactly what has forced Tanzanian sensational award-winning singer Diamond admit that he can simply die for his mother.

Diamond has posted a photo of himself and his mother and said it was taken when his mother drove him to the airport as he took a flight to kenya.

Ghafla! Kenya has reported that Diamond will be performing live in Mombasa on Jamhuri Day alongside other Kenyan artists.

Diamond

Diamond (left) with his mother

His mother is one proud parent after the singer build himself a name in Africa by becoming one of the most talented and recognized artists in the continent.

This perhaps is why his mother has to release him with her own blessings every time he flies out of Tanzania for shows abroad.

Diamond has admitted that his mother has always drove him to the airport whenever he is travelling abroad.

Isn’t this real mother love? Here is what Daimond said about his mother:

“MOMBASA!!! MOMBASA!!! On our way… i swear i love my mom.. skuzote hata iwe alfajiri ama usiku wa manane, lakini lazma ahakikishe ananifikisha mwanae airport…”

Kenyan Women Named As Some of the World’s ‘Baddest’ Women

Kenyans were once described as Africa’s “Most Ugliest” people, but we forgave them because the people who wrote the said article came from a point of ignorance. It’s clear that the person who wrote it had clearly not set foot in Kenya.

But in recent times we as the Kenyan people are recognized for more positive things such as being the kindest people in Africa and now Kenyan women have been listed as one of  the “Baddest women” on earth. This is because of the fiery protest #mydressmychoice that we participated in to protest the stripping of a woman in by Embassava touts.

The site, Buzzfeed this year decided to recognize women who had made a change in 2014, those that fought for equality and justice.

Here is a screenshot from the article:

buzzfeed.jpg

A protest that was totally worth it as the government opened its eyes to the disgrace and extreme violence facing women.
In recent times we have seen the Kayole stripping perpetrators arraigned in court, the A.P who threatened to strip a teenager also arraigned in court, and the best part of all, the Githurai men who sexually assaulted a woman in Githurai could be facing the death penalty. That is progress my people.

This is The Reason Why Everybody Should be Dying to be a Fashion Designer Right Now #DesignYourDestiny

The holiday season is here with us people, time to let go and have some fun. There is just something fascinating about December; people are happier, money seems to trend everywhere and certainly everyone feels all generous. Celebrities too so don’t be surprised when you bump into Khaligraph and he certainly feels like taking a selfie.

The people however feeling overly generous this year are Equity bank and they have demonstrated this through the Vijana Na Equity initiative; an online, nationwide talent search that invites artists to showcase their unique abilities within a broad of categories. And they’re starting off with all you fashion designers, upcoming and established.

Before we embark on this incredible journey however, its better you start by making a submission here>>>>VIJANA NA EQUITY and be sure to hurry up as the submissions close on the 15th.

Basically she’s the epitome of fashion in East Africa if not the whole of Africa. There is also Franklin Saiyalel who is simply the leading male fashion blogger in the country. He keeps tabs on the latest International fashion trends and updates you through his various social media platforms. And there are not alone, other well acclaimed fashionistas will be in the line-up.

Now tell me whether that isn’t a dream come true and destiny fulfilled?

Carol Radull Throws Back The Day She Wedded Her Husband Mike. See How It Was And What She Told Him

Five years down the line and Radio Africa’s Carol Radull still feels what she felt for her hubby Mike Njiru then. It is one of the few marriages that anyone can die to have.

And now since 2009 when the two wedded, it seems that each day comes with new things, fresh feelings and more love for each other.

Throw Back Thursday famously hashtagged as #TBT has seen Carol remember them days when she felt weak in Mike’s arms, when she said that yes I do with tears tickling down her heart, tears of joy and satisfaction.

carol

This is the day the two walked down the aisle, exchanged vows and promised by each other’s side. To love and cherish, respect and obey, in good and bad types, until death does them apart.

Carol had sweet words for her hubby when she simply said:

“#TBT 5th anniversary I love you @mikenjiru Let’s go for 5 times 5 times 5 times 5 more

And Mike responded with these sweet message as he also remembers the day he convinced Carol to move out of her father’s house:

“#TBT Exactly 5 years ago today… #5thAnniversary Thanks love @carolradull for standing by me all the way and thanks to the Almighty

Papa Shirandula and Lizz Njagah Reveal Their Big Break. These is How They Made Their Millions

Kenya’s film industry pays handsomely, the era when acting was considered a “joke” is long gone. Actors and actresses are cashing in heavily from their careers.

Last night, Citizen TV’s Terryanne Chebet hosted Charles Bukeko aka Papa Shirandula and Lizz Njagah on her show to discuss the prospects of Kenya’s film industry. One thing that was made crystal clear during the show was: resilience pays.

The Kenyan film industry has come a long way to be what it is today, though it is not where many expect it to be, actors and actresses acknowledge the industry has changed. Back then, artists used to be paid peanuts from the various acting roles they played, today, however, they earn “good” money to comfortably sustain them.

a.paps

Papa Shirandula revealed his big break came with the Coca Cola’s “brrr” commercial, the advertisement became a global phenomenon and Papa was ultimately paid well in US dollars. Though he refused to say how much he earned, he acknowledges his role in the commercial was a BIG boast to his life.

On the other hand, Lizz Njagah confirmed Tinsel was her biggest break, though she admitted other casts like Makutano Junction, Lux commercial etc played a significant role in her career, she confirmed it Nigerian soap opera Tinsel is the one that propelled her to greater heights.

Why Nairobians Are Waking Up To Donkey Faces

If you woke up to a donkey in your face or bumped into one on your way to work you are probably wondering why there are so many donkeys walking leisurely in the city, this is not Limuru after all.

The reason why donkeys with ‘Tumechoka’ painted of them are sauntering on the streets of Nairobi is because they have been used as a form of protest. And in case the word”Tumechoka” sounds familiar to you it’s because it was the theme to the Occupy Harambee Avenue.

The protest was held after the Mandera attacks that have seen the deaths of many Kenyans rise to an alarming level. It is unclear however who dropped off the donkeys in the streets of Nairobi since no-one has laid claim to them. But it’s probably a tired Kenyan, God Knows Kenyans are tired.

Anyhow, here are the said donkeysdonkey_4.jpg

Meet 9-Year Old Girl Acrobat Set To Entertain The President On Jamhuri Day. See What She Can Do (Photos)

Tomorrow is a public holiday in Kenya. This means that, as it is the norm, Kenyans will congregate at the Nyayo National Stadium to celebrate the day when Kenya gained self rule.

Among those expected to attend as usual is the head of state and other dignitaries. So far, it is rumoured that six heads of states and government are likely to attend to celebrate with us.

However, one catchy thing about the celebrations is this 9-year old girl who is doing very well in acrobatics and who has really impressed that she has been invited to perform for the president and his delegation.

Wendy from Huruma’s Pamoja Acro-dancers is a talented youngster who many have described as a phenomenon, thanks to her genius in acrobatics.

Among those who have appreciated her work and are her big fans is Radio Citizen’s Mzazi Willy M Tuva, who has not shied away from sharing what this young girl is doing in the entertainment industry.

This is another clear indication that Kenya is made of much talent which only needs to be tapped and nurtured properly.

Here is Wendy as she practiced at the Nyayo National Stadium for tomorrow’s occasion:

Maina Kageni’s Favorite Caller,Wakanai,Is A Con And A Money-Swindler.(Shocking Revelations From A Victim)

Yesterday,a young woman named Peninah Wanjiku Muiruri dropped a bombshell. Heavier than the US Senate Expose on the CIA. A popular voice on Kenya’s most popular radio show had been exposed as a con, swindler and a fraud. His name is Wakanai. The Classic FM loudmouth. And Maina Kageni’s most favorite caller…..

(Writer’s Note; This story is still developing. Updates will be added as they happen. Wakanai’s side of the story is yet to be heard. He has been ignoring phone calls since Yesterday.)

You all know Wakanai. Or,atleast, have heard his cantankerous voice on Classic FM’s super popular Morning show hosted by the charming buddies,Maina Kageni and King’ang’i. Wakanai calls into the radio show almost every morning…His huge voice in tow, yapping and grovelling allover the radio waves ceaselessly. Wakanai’s a typical Kikuyu male-chauvinist…Or atleast, his radio character is.

He is the controversial voice that almost always sides with Maina Kageni in almost all controvertible topics. In in almost all cases,he defends Men and tenaciously bashes women…Ending his boisterous phone calls with his signature line “Kari Kii…” or “Tondu ni kii…” a line Maina Kageni relishes and loves to readily repeat. A regular contributor to most of the sleazy Classic FM Morning topics,Wakanai’s voice is a household voice. Atleast to the millions of avid listeners of that show.

Well,Your favorite radio/caller will not be so favorite to You after You learn of his money-swindling ways in a few.

On the first week of November, via Whatsaap,Wakanai messaged his friend Peninah Wanjiku Muiruri who resides in Lebanon asking her for immediate monetary help. Using his native Kikuyu and swahili and English, too,Wakanai implored Peninah to send him around 20,000 via any Money-sending agency from Lebanon.

Wakanai convinced the naive Peninah that he had was stuck in Mombasa and that he had some luggage stuck at the port for which he needed urgent cash to release. Wakanai further told Peninah that he had been short of cash even after a Maina (Kageni??) had sent him some more cash to help in the processing of his luggage.

In a series of messages,Wakanai urged Peninah to send him the money quick as he was in a “very bad place”. He went on to promise her that he would refund the money in 2 weeks’ time without fail. After much convincing,Peninah agreed to send him the 20k after he promised her that he would refund the cash with a 5,000 extra.

But before agreeing to send him the money,Peninah told Wakanai that she actually did have money but that she had intended to use that money to renovate her Mother’s house back in the village and that she was afraid of using the cash for other purposes. Wakanai, however, convinced her to still send him the money telling her that he respected parents and would never fail to return money that anyone had set aside for their parents.

10383886_352922028213289_1292937692401988056_n.jpg

10802027_352921978213294_1444369000560952243_n.jpg

Convinced,Peninah agreed to send him the cash. Elated,Wakanai told her,”That’s good, wacha nikimbie Malindi nikachukue draft ya customs tutaongea baadaye”

Again,he texted her,”That’s great. Nitaongeza tano za kurudisha asante, but in two weeks hope it will be fine with You…”

All this is after he had texted her,”Nilikuwa nimejipanga na 640k but nimepata duty iko 720k nataka 20k via mpesa nimeget hizi zingine nishapata from Maina zaa hii utaweza then nikurefund na tano juu afta two weeks..

After much lobbying and begging,Wakanai finally managed to convince poor Peninah to Mpesa him the money. With a faulty promise of receiving it 2 weeks later…And with a 5 thousand shilling interest.

10388060_352921931546632_7536979641921145382_n.jpg

The agreement was, after 2 weeks,Wakanai was to MPESA Peninah’s Mum the money since Peninah had meant to send it to her Mum anyway for purposes of renovating her house. And in a strange twist of plot,Peninah actually sent Wakanai 600 dollars. That is,51,439 Kenya Shillings instead of the initial 20,000 that Wakanai had been begging for.

And on the Money sending documents,It is clearly indicated;

SENDER : PENINNAH MUIRURI.

RECEIVER: NELSON MUNGAI KANAI.

The money was sent on 15th November 2014 AT EXACTLY 01:19PM. And as it is with all Western Union transactions, there was required a test question and answer. The test question was HELLO. And the answer was HELLO as well. And the Western Union Agent in Lebanon that Peninnah sent the Money through was CLASSIC S EST.NABATIYE-HASBAYA on GHASAAD ABOU HAMMAD BUILDING.

It is not clear when Wakanai withdrew it,though.

Two weeks later,Mr. Wakanai went mute. And after Peninnah messaged him and called him and bugged him wondering when he was intending to send the money to her Mother as agreed,Wakanai claimed that he had received a bouncing cheque and that he would refund the money on the 8th of December. 8th of December came and still,no word from Wakanai.

And after Penninah bugged him too much, wondering why he was not refunding the money or even talking ,Wakanai did the classic conman game; He BLOCKED her mobile phone. And blocked her on Twitter. And on Whatsaap too.

He blacked her out. And sat back, convinced that he had won. And that she would never find an avenue to reach him again. Or bug him.

Exasperated,Peninnah took to social media to air out her grievances. Posting the story, his photos and the transaction slip. And that is when the drama started on Facebook.

After her story on Facebook started attracting much attention, and after her friends started posting the story on Maina Kageni’s wall and My inbox and Ghetto Radio’s Facebook wall as well,Wakanai decided to call Penninah up and ordered her to pull down the story, threatening to “tarnish her name” on social media. After realizing that his threats weren’t working,Wakanai yet again called Peninnah and promised her that he would send her the money soon as she deleted the damaging social media posts she had made about his scamming ways.

10413433_352922091546616_50839959082068027_n.jpg

Convinced,Peninnah agreed to delete the posts and clear his name from her Social Media handles. And,expecting that he would cooperate,Wakanai pulled a fast one. Again!

He then called her and told her that she was NOT talking to the right Wakanai and that she was confusing him with “The Real Wakanai” WHAT NONSENSE!

And,just like that,He blocked her again! Phew! Now that’s stupid!

I spent close to an hour calling up Wakanai with the Official Ghafla Phone yesterday. And for that whole time,He declined to pick up the phone. Attempt after attempt after attempt. I simply gave up! And went ahead with the story.

Well, this is crazy. Peninnah is 22 Years Old. Do all 22 Year Olds act as naively and are all 22 Year Olds as gullible as Peninnah?? Or why would You send someone 51,000 Shillings just like that?? Who does that?? Who seriously does that??? I feel for poor Peninnah. But her actions have shocked Me!

As for Wakanai,His days, believe Me,are numbered. Watch this space!

My head is buzzing. Hard.

The Star’s Oliver Mathenge Criticises Al Jazeera Journalists. See What He Calls Them

The Al Jazeera documentary has elicited different reactions from the public, with the government of Kenya threatening to sue the journalists who came up with the documentary. Bitter exchanges have ensued between the government and Al Jazeera which have further escalated the situation.

While Kenyan journalists are quiet over the same and grappling with the contents of a proposed bill that is believed to target journalists, the Star writer Oliver Mathenge has strongly criticized the documentary.

Mathenge believes that the timing of the documentary was not well done considering that President Uhuru was acquitted by the ICC last week.

He is says that the whole documentary is suspect as it aims to meet one end. This means that Mathenge believes that the journalists who conducted the investigations were malicious and had ill intentions.

This is what Mathenge tweeted:
