The third season of Coke Studio Africa is set to premier in October across Africa, showcasing some of the best musical talent in the continent.

This year’s show adopted the mash-up format where a song is created by blending two or more pre-recorded songs, usually by overlaying the track of one song seamlessly over the track of another to create a new piece featuring both musicians.

The new season will feature artists from Nigeria, Mozambique, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

And with only a few weeks to the premier of Coke Studio Africa season 3, Coca Cola has joined hands with Safaricom to reward Coke consumers with free data and text message bundles. Dubbed ‘Under the Crown’, consumers can participate by buying a 300ml or 500ml and send the unique code under the crown.

The campaign targets the growing internet penetration in the country, with mobile phones being the most used device to get onto the internet. According to the latest Communication Authority of Kenya fourth quarter sector report for the year 2014/15, there are an estimated 29.6 million users. Mobile data subscriptions contribute to 99% of the total subscriptions.

Kenyans were thrilled and impressed when the Cadillac One famously called The Beast by the Secret Service Agents made its way to the country during Obama’s recent visit to the country.

The car is called the safest in the world and Kenyans could not help but marvel and gush about at POTUS’ exclusive $1.5 million ride.

But now there is a new car much humbler than ‘The Beast’ that has caught our attention, the humble Fiat 500L that Pope Francis rode in.

The pontiff famed for being humble and down-to-earth chose a car that goes for about $19,345 during his recent visit to the states. This is not the first time that the pope  has ridden in a humble car.He is said to have shunned an elegant Mercedes Popemobile and opted for kawaida cars such as an old blue Ford, Toyotas ,Isuzu and Kia.

The teacher’s strike has now gone political with Cord Mp donning school uniform to attend a rally in support of the striking teachers. 

 However, Kenyans on social media did not find it funny that Cord would find it suitable an opportunity to hijack the teachers strike and hit back at the government. Some of the reactions on social media:

Their greatest achievement as we speak is getting the US President Obama to cut a rug to their hit song ‘Sura Yako’ at a State House dinner event hosted by President Uhuru Kenyatta.And a video of them all doing the #LipalaDance went viral garnering them international publicity and subsequently turning them into mega-stars.

Speculations are rife following the sudden death of actress Nana Gichuru who passed on yesterday in road accident after her BMW car rammed into an oncoming lorry along the Eastern Bypas near Utawala.

One eyewitness who narrated the chronology of events to Kenya Car Bazaar claimed the TV Queen scratched two cars from behind while trying to overtake them before she eventually rammed into an oncoming lorry killing her on the spot.

“She was in a rush so she overtook and when going back to the lane, she scratched a car behind and refused to stop as expected she overtook again when running away and returning to her lane, scratched another. I think this became too much to bear so she decided to overtake again….I think she did not do her calculations well coz that trailer was ahead of her and as usual German cars pick really fast, she drove right into it”, reveals the witness who was at the scene of fatal accident.

Nana who is in her mid twenties, was also a writer, voice artist, young film maker, and a travel junkie.Her death comes barely a month after she lost her grandmother.

She will be remembered for her acting prowess in quite a number of local TV series.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.Amen.

This weekend,Sauti Sol will be performing in central park,  New York, at the 2015 Global citizens Festival.

  Sauti sol Will be performing alongside  Beyonce, Cold Play, Bono Pearl Jam alongside superstars at what has been advertised as the biggest event of this year. This will be Sauti Sol’s second appearance in America after the BET awards in Los Angeles a while back.

Sonko and Kidero’s relationship has been improving each passing day. The once bitter rivals are now tight buddies.

It all started with the disbandment of Sonko Rescue Team. The philanthropic Nairobi Senator donated vehicles used by his eponymous team to Nairobi Governor to further his noble course.

During the burial of his dad, Sonko announced he was ready to work with his former foe, Dr. Evans Kidero. This was before he dissolved Sonko Rescue Team.

True to his words, Sonko has been very resourceful to Kidero’s campaign to be crowned the most social governor in Kenya.

Kidero was nominated for OLX SoMA award (Social Governor) where he is facing stiff competition from four other popular sheriffs.

Mwangi Wa Iria (Murang’a), Ali Hassan Joho (Mombasa), William Kabogo Gitau (Kiambu) and Dr. Alfred Mutua (Machakos) are the four governors Kidero will have to crush before he can clinch the title the ‘Most Social Governor’ in Kenya.

Sonko has been busy beating drum for Kidero urging his mammoth army to vote for the Nairobi governor.

“My brother Governor Evans Kidero is humbled and honored at the nomination by OLX SOMAwards team for the Social Governor category. Please remember to vote for him.”

Are our leaders sensationally preaching water while downing barrels of wine away from the public glare? 

 Over the weekend scores of Kenyan leaders offered to to take a pay-cut in contribution to the poorly paid teachers kitty. It is a move that we are yet to see take shape. In the meantime as  you marvel at the charitable nature of our leaders, you will be astounded at the extravagance of our leaders even as the Government cries that there is no money to pay teachers. 

Shortly after his generous offer to take a pay cut Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba took a flight to New York on business class, in what is assumed  to be a State sponsored trip in the sense that Namwamba is part of a delegation accompanying President Kenyatta for the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly.

Hypothetically a trip on business class can go well over 350,000 two-way, multiply that by 70 people per trip. That is not all think about these trips taking place atleast 3 times in a year. 

To lead by example, methinks that these leaders should have started from here, travelled economy and upon returning, take pay cuts.Otherwise it will just be: drink water folks! Then a few bottles of wine later. 

What lessons can be learnt from Nana Gichuru’s tragic death? One Robert Alai came up with a contentious answer to that question few hours after the sad news broke.

Most African communities accord certain amount of respect to the departed. It’s sickening to see someone thoughtlessly chucking prickly words a few hours after the death of Nana Gichuru.

Controversial blogger, Robert Alai, is insensible to the pain the family of the deceased is feeling to go around hurling words that add ache to the agonizing sorrow of losing a loved one.

Alai urges the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to use Nana’s death to campaign against speeding.

“This lady loved to speed and used her social media accounts to talk about her death. I hope that NTSA would use her to campaign against such driving.” Wrote Alai.

But the whistle blower didn’t stop there; he went on to spew his venom on the departed’s relatives and friends.

“Those who claim to be Nana’s relatives and friends are the most pretentious. Should have advised her against carelessness. I have seen enough death of young people from preventable deaths. This is carelessness which was cheered by the foolish people who claim to be her friends. We must stop making wrong choices in life. I have seen 4 KQ staff from Nyayo estate die this year from the same kind of carelessness. People must stand up and demand better. You can’t cheer stupidity whether the victim is alive or dead.”

Good advice Alai, but poor timing and pathetic choice of words!

The country is still grappling to digest the shocking news about the sudden death of actress Nana Gichuru.

The actress lost her life when BMW she was driving smash into a lorry in Utawala area along the Eastern bypass.

Celebrities have been equally traumatized by the demise of one of their own. The likes of Sarah Hassa, Avril and many others have eulogized the deceased as they expressed their sincere condolences.

The plus size actress is still celebrating her big win on Nollywood & African Film Critics’ Awards (NAFCA) which is known as the African Oscars.

At first, we all thought Pierra Makena was the only Kenyan who won NAFCA award. The lass won Best Actress in a supporting role in the movie ‘When Love Comes Around.’

Diamond Platnumz won Favorite Artist of the Year and Favorite Song of the Year while Anne Kansiime Favorite Comedian.

The three weren’t the only celebs from East Africa to bag a prize. Clarice Otieno, an actress and a plus size model based in Texas, USA, also scoped the prestigious award.

The former NTV actress (she acted on Red Korna which used to air on Nation TV) won NAFCA award; Best Promising Actress.

The Awards was held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 in Orpheum Theatre, Los Angeles USA.

Nana Gichuru described herself as ‘an actor, writer, musician, voice artist, young film maker, entrepreneur, travel junkie, maaard thinker and an unconventional human in Nairobi.’ and sadly this young beautiful soul is no more.

This is after we received news that she died after she rammed into a lorry and the impact was so horrible that her body was found in pieces. The deceased was driving along the Eastern bypass when she met her death.

The miniature comedian has landed a lucrative deal that will see him fly across the Red Sea to entertain an international audience.

Chipukeezy has finally gotten his breakthrough after sweating his ass for years trying to get sponsors to facilitate him realize his dream.

A while back, Chipu knocked on Governor Alfred Mutua’s office in search of his support. Chipukeezy tabled his proposal and Mutua was convinced to shoulder him.

Chipu also managed to convince other corporate bodies to sponsor his endeavors. The comedian has managed to secure the support of ABC Bank, Kenya Airways and Gulien Hotel to sponsor his first ever Stand-up comedy.

Chipukeezy will fly to the desert city of Dubai where he will be gracing his eponymous stand-up comedy dubbed ‘Chipukeezy Live In Dubai’.

The event will be going down on 6^th November 2015.

His strategy paid off as he kept on winning until he eventually bagged the ultimate prize, Ksh 29,591,277.

 If I didn’t know any better, I would have said that the guy who was handling social media for NTV last weekend has a morbid sense of humor. 

 It is not the first time that NTV has been caught on the wrong side of town with social media and on screen blunders. If you remember, there was this snippet that was making rounds earlier in the year .
