The Alfa Romeo Owners Club has opened the entry list for the 2016 CBA Africa Concours d’Elegance which will be the 46th in the annual series organized by the Club. The event is scheduled for September 25th at the Nairobi Racecourse.
The regulations have been posted on the event website (www.concourskenya.com) and a list of classes and entry forms have been mailed to past and potential competitors, and officials. In the near future printed copies will be available at the official launch of the Concours and the premiere of the TV programme. Arrangements for this popular motoring and social function will be announced soon.
Meanwhile Concours fans will be able to enjoy a preview of the TV programme which will be televised eight times on DSTV Supersport. The series commences on Monday February 15th at 8.00 pm on the Supersport Nine East Africa channel and the final one will be at 2.00 pm on Thursday February 18th on Supersport Eight.
The acceptance of the CBA Africa Concours d’Elegance TV programme for Supersport is a tribute to the Africa continental status of the event which has been recognized and sanctioned by FIM Africa since 2006. The filming, editing and narration were the work of Screenshot Productions who have produced a programme which meets international standards.
This highlights some of the unusual cars and motorcycles which were admired by spectators at the Nairobi racecourse during the assessment by the judges. These include the 1934 Railton of Diccon Wilcock, Francis Kungu’s 1951 Riley and Paul Chemngorem’s 1962 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. Among the crowd-pulling motorcycles were the 1925 DKW of Sati’s Classics and a 1927 Raleigh and a 1946 Harley Davidson which were prepared and entered by the Vintage Motorcycle Club of South Africa.
Last year the Concours attracted 23 entries from outside Kenya which came from Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda. The Concours TV programme is being used by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club to publicize the event to motor clubs in Africa and beyond.

Waiguru may have been innocent as pointed out by the recent EACC press release absolving her from any financial crimes but still,the people who dragooned her out if office must have done so not because she was necessarily corrupt but because she had become a cancer,a pain in the ass,a tyrannical lordy individual,a despot and a hard-headed mistress who was difficult to please,to work with or under and to coexist with.
Baraza’s ouster also had a lot to do with the nature,her imperious character and her attitude as a Boss than her Village Market transgressions.
And we all know what a brutal totalitarian Martha Karua was at the height of her political superstardom. A cold,blood-sucking sea monster. Some sort of a Kenyan Imelda Marcos.
There seems to be a pattern here… The stronger the woman, the higher her position in society,the plummer the job she holds,the more the titles she holds, the more she becomes a monster,the more she becomes dictatorial, the higher the chances of her feeling sweet,trampling over her juniors,abusing her power and even oppressing her fellow women and shutting them down.
Women,it has been proved in the past,as in the cases of Hillary Clinton,Nancy Pelosi, Grace Mugabe, Lucy Kibaki, Ranavalona 1,Catherine the Great, Cleopatra etc, tend to morph into ferocious beasts the moment they’re bestowed some huge titles,given some gargantuan responsibilities,elevated to great positions of power and made to preside over powerful institutions.
Powerful Kenyan women must understand that the reason they get a beating,the main reason they’re gleefully hounded out of office,the main reason Society loves to watch them fall to disgrace and tribulations is mainly because of their attitude,their nature,dictatorial character,lack of respect and general unlikability.
Women tend to get more drunk with power than men and therefore,more prone to abuse of power,disrespect for the lowly,despotic tendencies and general lack of public manners and humility.
These women must first learn to how remain grounded and committed to public service before they can be allowed to steer a powerful institution only to bring it down with their nastiness,raw bitterness,combativeness and abject disrespect of their juniors and mostly – their fellow women.
Until then,this species of human beings needs to NOT be elevated to high positions. Until then.

Chaos at Chuka University yesterday went bizarre prompting the administration to close varsity after students went on rampage destroying property.
Chuka University in Meru County has been closed indefinitely following disputed students’ elections. Chaos erupted after students disagreed on the outcome of the elections.
Rioting students torched the campus bus, destroyed property within the University and outside and proceeded to barricade Meru-Nairobi road before the police finally intervened.
Some students claimed the election was manipulated to favor student leaders from a certain tribe. The police are yet to get to the bottom of the incident.

Watching former deputy CJ Nancy Baraza’s interview on NTV tonight reminds me of a personal encounter I had with her. I was then working for Standard Group as Editor Incharge of the North Rift. We went to Turkana to cover one of the region’s worst drought. We did a special report on the devastation of the drought that was headlined ‘Are they Kenyans?’ in The Standard newspaper, thanks to my then boss Kipkoech Tanui who empathised with the situation in Turkana & demanded we give a detailed report. This coverage would contribute to the launch of the Kenyans for Kenya initiative that saw fellow countrymen donate food for the Turkana starving families. The batterer has not been locked in police custody thanks to a yesterday court ruling by resident magistrate Miriam Peter Mugure.
The magistrate said the application to lock the wife batterer for three days lacked merit since the complainant had not formally recorded a statement and filled a P3 form.

In just two weeks Kenya will once again play host to some of the most recognised names in modern jazz, when stars from seven countries including Kenya take the stage at the annual Safaricom International Jazz Festival.
The event, which will be held at the Safaricom Stadium in Kasarani, will see artists from USA, UK, Belgium, Israel, Nigeria and South Africa perform alongside some of Kenya’s best live jazz bands.
“This event is about bringing people together to enjoy fantastic music and marketing our country as a destination for live jazz music, which is fast becoming a part of Kenyan music culture,” said Bob Collymore, Safaricom C.E.O.
“Kenya is beautiful in so many ways. We’re known world over for sun, sand and safari, and we want to add a vibrant arts culture to our repertoire. Our aim is to use the Safaricom International Jazz Festival as a platform for cross-cultural exchange in terms of music and culture, as well as to position it as a must-attend event for both domestic and international tourists,” he added.
This year’s line-up includes epic performances from three-time Grammy Award® winner Branford Marsalis (USA), Jef Neve (Belgium), Maya Beltsitzman and Matan Ephrat (Israel), Sons of Kemet (UK), Siya Makuzeni (South Africa) and Kunle Ayo (Nigeria) – who performed at the Safaricom Jazz Lounge in 2014.
They will be joined by two of Kenya’s most prolific jazz bands: Afrosync, and Edward Parseen and the Different Faces. The Safaricom Youth Orchestra, which comprises of gifted instrumentalists aged between 10 and 18 years, will open the show with some jazz favourites

After months of competing against some of Africa’s finest talents, in front of a huge global audience and three of the toughest judges on the planet, Pascal on Sunday, February 7, did Kenya proud with a third-place finish in the maiden season of TECNO Own The Stage.
It was a culmination of years of hard work for the charismatic Pascal whose charming personality and good stage presence endeared him to the hearts of millions of fans across Africa, especially female fans.
For his efforts on the show, which took place in Lagos, Pascal went home with $10,000 and a Tecno Phantom 5 smartphone.
The winner of Africa’s first televised karaoke contest was however the Nigerian-born Shaapera, who went home with the competition’s grand prize of $25,000 at the end of Sunday’s Grand Finale in Lagos. In addition, she also earned for herself a recording deal as well as a brand new TECNO Phantom 5.
In second place was the Tanzanian, Nandy, who went home with $15,000, a three-month internship programme at the internationally acclaimed Chocolate City, and a Tecno Phantom 5 smartphone.
Sikin, who was the other Kenyan who made it into the show’s Grand Finale, placed fourth at the end of it and went home with a Tecno Phantom 5 smartphone.
But she also looks destined for greatness after putting up a series of exceptional performances from the show’s outset.
It seemed not long ago when 15 contestants – five each from Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania – came together in the city of Lagos in their quest to be crowned the continent’s best.
But after over 13 weeks of intense competition the battle became a four-way contest for glory, with Pascal the only male in the pack.
And Africa, as well as the world in general, can’t wait to see much more of Pascal, Sikin, Nandy and Shaapera after performing so marvellously well on TECNO Own The Stage.
