Someone should hand Huddah Monroe a cassock, preaching scarf and pulpit because she is preaching some serious truth about sponsors.

In a heart-to-heart with her fans, Huddah revealed that she was one of those chics who used to be impressed by affluent men , but she saw the light when she came to realize that handouts meant slavery, she stopped being so hopped up on wealth .

Yesterday Kenyans were expecting double gold as curtains came down in Rio but Julius Yego got injured leaving Kenya with a single gold.

Eliud Kipchoge yesterday won Kenya its final gold in men’s marathon to take the country to 15^th position on Rio Olympics medal standings.

Kenya was expected to bag another gold medal as Julius Yego was all fit and prepared to win his first Olympic gold for men’s javelin.

But unfortunately the unforeseen happened and Yego retired from the competition after he was injured on his ankle.

The YouTube athlete was wheeled out of the competition in tears as Kenyans watching the event got worried about the severity of his injury.

Amazingly Yego still won a medal for Kenya despite his injury; his lead of 88.24m in the opening attempt won him a silver medal.

An excited Yego took to the social media to address Kenyans following the astonishing win;

“It was that painful, but I thank God it not serious as I thought! I am going to be back stronger guys, love you all my fans wherever you are. Your tremendous support can never go unnoticed! You always cheer me up even in hard times! God bless you all.”

When Uhuru was elected as president back in 2013, a now famous tweet from the U.S.A read “The good news is my cousin Uhuru Kenyatta has been elected President of Kenya. The not so good news is he’s also indicted for war crimes.”

The weekend is just around the corner and as usual, expect Kenyans to be in full party mode.  Whether in the clubs or on road trips, Kenyans really know how to put on a show and let go of the week’s stresses.

In 2005, Samson ole Sisina’s family’s life crashed down after Thomas Cholmondeley of the infamous Lord Delamere clan shot him 5 times with his Luger gun.

Sisina was investigating the trafficking of illegal bush meat when he met his tragic end at the Soysambu ranch in Naivasha. Sadly, Cholmondley got away with the murder and the following year he killed a 37 year old man called Robert Njoya and his dog with a Winchester rifle.

For this crime he got a slap on the wrist which was 8 months in jail after he was convicted of manslaughter.

A few days ago, the immensely controversial figure was back into the limelight. This was after got a heart attack and died at MP Shah Hospital where he had gone for a hip replacement. But there is more to his death than a heart attack, apparently there are powerful supernatural forces who are responsible for his unforeseen death.

Speaking to the Daily Nation Sisina’s family said that some super-potent rituals had been conducted on the KWS’ ranger’s gravesite to ‘curse the killer’ after their efforts to reopen their case against Cholmondeley failed.

“It was a serious thing and it was conducted by very elderly Maasai. So when the elders heard the news, they knew it was a confirmation that the rituals still work. The curse will follow the kin even after the death of the killer. They must go back to Sisina’s family.” The Sisina’s family spokesman said.

In addition to the ritual, the family has demanded 49 heads of cattle and 27 acres of the Delamere’s ranch in Naivasha as compensation for the death of the KWS officer and if their demands are not met, they will block Cholmondley’s burial.

One of the most astounding things to witness as a Kenyan is when one of our athletes approaches the last stretch in the tracks guns blazing and in full determination to scoop a gold medal, most to the awe of the crowd. It gets even better when it’s a trio and we get scoop gold, silver and bronze.

The two times Olympic champion has decided to challenge France to a battle after he was stripped of his rightful medal in Rio.

Kemboi’s retirement plans were disrupted by a French athlete who was out to win an Olympic medal through a backroom deal.

Just after IAAF slapped him with the disqualification announcement, and robbed him of his bronze medal, Kemboi quickly threw away his retirement coat and started preparing for a major showdown in 3000m steeplechase.

The veteran athlete disclosed he will be contesting for a medal in 2017 World Championships in London. Kemboi says he decided to switch off the retirement button because he had planned to quit running having won a medal but when is plans were interrupted, he had to turn to plan B to retire in glory.

“I had opted to retire right after the Olympics only if i had come home with this medal… now I feel that I have to bring back this medal not by protesting again but right on track. Kemboi is not retired I will be coming to London 2017 to re-claim my medal from France. No limits” 34 year old Kemboi posted on Facebook.

They look funny in police uniforms now that were are used to seeing them in their athletics gear.

Three of Kenya’s most successful middle-distance runners, Ezekiel Kemboi, David Rudisha and Asbel Kiprop, serve in the Kenya police. It appears the two joined the force at almost the same time.

The three boasts of having bagged Olympics gold; Kemboi (2 times Olympic gold medalist 3000m steeplechase), Rudisha (2 times Olympic gold medalist 800m), Kiprop (1 times Olympic gold medalist 1500m).

This season of Nairobi Diaries is certainly full of drama.

After Vanessa Chettle beat up Michelle Yola who then quit the show, Pendo has spent a night in jail. But she doesn’t seem so bummed up about it and even managed to smile.

It is not clear why Pendo spent a night there but we have a feeling it could have something to do with the ass-pounding she gave Noti Flow in a previous episode of Nairobi diaries.

The gang took turns to rape them, they were so comfortable committing the evil act that they did it for three hours straight!

A woman, her underage daughters and niece were gang-raped in Ongata Rongai on Sunday night by six deranged men who took turns to molest them. (Identities of persons affected have been concealed to protect them)

The woman and her three daughters who were from attending a church service when they passed through her brother’s home to pick her two nieces to go with them at her home in Rangau. The women’s daughters were aged 9, 11 and 14 while her nieces were aged 4 and 13.

The six met the rapist gang some 500 meters from their home. They were robbed of their money and phones before the gang decided to molest them.

The woman tried to run away from the gang but they subdued her after one of them hit her with a stone on her head knocking her down on the ground.

She was dragged farther into the thicket together with the girls where the unthinkable was done to them.

The two younger girls aged 4 and 9 were separated from the rest then the 6-man gang descended on the woman and the three older girls raping them for three hours straight.

Two neighbors responded to the commotion in the bush but were hacked by the gang which was armed with pangas and other weapons.

The gang then took off after robbing the two curious neighbors of their mobile phones and cash. The woman and girls reported the incident to Olekasasi Police Post before seeking medical attention at Nairobi Women’s Hospital, Ongata Rongai branch.

Police are yet to bring to book the 6-man rapist gang.

Resident Magistrate Mary Murage ordered for the short-term closure of Space Lounge in an ongoing legal battle between the club and its neighbors over deafening music played in the club at night.

Part of the court order reads “ A temporary injunction is hereby issued against the plaintiff their servants ,agents, employees , representatives, tenants and other person (s) acting on their stead, prohibiting them from any further operation of live music, streamed music and or any other music within Space Lounge Bar situated along Ngong Road Nairobi.”

In addition, the club was asked to surrender their permit as the case goes on and the Kilimani Police officers were also ordered to ensure that the club complies with the orders.

A gang of conmen and women was yesterday caught red-handed trying to swindle money from Mpesa shop in Ruiru.

Apparently the gang has been giving businessmen and women sleepless night ripping them off of their hard earned money.

The coalition of fraudsters which had been stealing from unsuspecting Kenyans in Nairobi and its environs, met their match in an angry mob yesterday as they tried to rob Mpesa shop in Ruiru.

Cops rescued the conmen and women before the ruthless mob that was roughing them up could spill blood.

Meanwhile another stupid thief was almost killed today by a mob after he was busted in broad daylight trying to steal from a shop selling mobile phone accessories on Luthuli Avenue

An angry mob severely beat him black and blue, some were hitting him with soda bottles, clubs, stones and anything they could find.

A police officer was the one who saved the thief as he dragged him away from the mob. Watch the video below:

After causing scene in Kinondoni area, Dar-es-Salaam, Ray-C was soon back in rehab at the Rehab, Life and Hope Rehabilitation Centre, in Bagamoyo, Dar es Salaam.

Operational efficiencies resulting from this project have seen our Cost-to-Income Ratio improve from 58.8% in Dec 2015 to 51.4% in June 2016.

The Bank has substantially grown the Balance Sheet with Total Assets at over Kshs.363Billion(a +12% growth)supported bya growing customer base now standing at 6 Million account-holders.

Key financial highlights:-

1.    Profit & Loss
•    Total interest income grew by 29% from Kshs16.7 billion to Kshs21.5 billion supported by an 11% growth in earning assets.

•    Total interest expense grew by 43% from Kshs4.91 billion to Kshs7.01 billion mostly attributable to an 11% growth in deposits as well as increased cost of funding

•    Total operating income grew by 20% to Kshs 21.3 billion from Kshs17.7 billion.

•    Fees and commissions on loans and advances increased by 8% from Kshs1.11 billion to Kshs 1.20 billion compared to the same period last year.

•    Total Non-Interest income grew by 15% from Kshs5.97billion to Kshs6.85 billion compared to the same period last year. This countered the 21% rise in Total operating expenses which increased to Kshs10.96 billion in 2016 from Kshs9.06 billion in 2015.

2.    Balance sheet

•    Total assets grew by Kshs 37.9 billion (+12%) toKshs. 363 billion compared to Kshs325.1 Billion in the same period last year.

•    Net loans and advancesbook grew byKshs16.4Billion (8%)to Kshs. 221.3 billion comparedto Kshs. 204.8 Billion in the same period last year.

•    Deposits grew by Kshs. 26.8 billion toKshs. 279.6 billion fromKshs. 252.8 billion last year, an11% increase.

•    Shareholders’ funds grew from Kshs. 47.1 billion to Kshs. 57.9billion, an impressive growth of 23%, supported by a steady retention ofearnings and improved earning over the years.

3.    Innovative Customer Delivery Platforms

•    Successful Universal Banking model and the implementation of Sales Force Effectiveness has seen the Group serve 6 million Account-holders across all sectors supported by our multichannel strategy that includes 144 Branches, 8,765Co-op Kwa Jirani Banking Agents and over 570 ATMs.

•    The versatile Mco-op CashMobile Wallet has continued to play a pivotal role in the growth of non-funded income with over 2.85 Million active customers.

•    Through our multi-channel strategy the Bank has successfully moved 87% of the customer transactions to alternative delivery channels particularly mobile banking, ATMs, internet and Co-op Kwa Jiranibanking Agency outlets.

•    Our unique model of retail banking services through Sacco FOSAs enabled us provide wholesale financial services to over 555 FOSA outlets.The bank has currently issued over 933,928Sacco link cards.

4.    Regional Expansion

Co-operative Bank of South Sudan that is a unique Joint Venture (JV) partnership with Government of South Sudan (Co-op Bank 51% and GOSS 49%)successfully contributes to the Group’s bottom linehaving made a profit of Kshs.29.22millionin Q22016.

The Bank’s regional expansion strategy will involve similar Joint Venture models in other countries notably Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzaniaand Ethiopia in the next 5 years.

5.    Corporate Social Responsibility Programs

•    The bank’s wholly-owned subsidiary Co-op Consultancy & Insurance Agency whose core mandate is to build capacity in the co-operative movement, has carried out over 2000 consultancy and advisory mandates since inception.

•    Co-op Bank Foundation has provided Scholarships for gifted but needy students from all regions of Kenya. The sponsorship includes; fully-paid secondary education, full fees for University education, Internships and career openings for beneficiaries. The foundation is fully funded by the bank and has so far supported 4,255 students since the inception of the program in 2007.

6.    Accolades

The Group has received recognition from the African Banking Awards for Social Responsibility and for being the Best Commercial Bank in Kenya. The Bank has also received the 2015 International Banker Award for Financial Inclusion.

The country as we speak is currently engulfed in a celebratory mood and this is after Rudisha ran across Rio scooping the Gold medal in the 800 meters category.

2016 has been a VERY bad year for Avril. Tragedy after tragedy has befallen the Kenyan songbird!

Death has once again robbed Avril Nyambura of her loved one. Her father passed away on March 22^nd this year. He had been admitted in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a Nairobi hospital before he passed on.

Months later, bad news involving Avril hit headlines; her engagement to her South African fiancée Leslie Mugadza just evaporated with no apparent reason.

As if that’s not enough suffering, the songstress yesterday announced the cruel hands of death had robbed her of her grandmother.

A Kenyan on Twitter decided to jump on the #somoenstopbettykyallo trend but got extra-shady with his comment.

“#SomeonestopBettykyallo but kamba women are naturally promiscous @BettyMkyallo is no different.” George Rai tweeted. A comment which Joel Amusavi refuted my tweeting “Acha matusi. Betty is a decent Kamba : Luhya girl. Betty we love you dear.”

And George Rai retorted with this cheap insult“ Decent? Really from okari to joho ‘ sex baiting prezzo on national TV. Stop defending her!”

Betty’s fans were not too happy with this insult directed at their fave and came out in numbers to condemn George:

Terryanne Chebet knows that wealth is silent and so she does not publicly flaunt her wealth. In fact the only way we got a glimpse of her car was when she was out camping and we spotted the glossy green Range Rover in the background.

Bishop Margaret Wanjiru showed up in a glossy silver Range Rover during a visit to Lang’ata constituency alongside Nairobi County Officials  where they had gone to revamp the TNA party.

6. Annerlisa Muigai

The Keroche heiress has no qualms about spend ing her money. She spends it on Birkin Bags, Rolexes, Salavatore Ferragamo shoes and also her fleet of cars which include a Mercedes-Benz CLS 500, Range Rover and Bentley.

Khaligraph Jones has a new track called ‘Wanjiru and Akinyi’. His delivery in it is as great as usual. His introspection and positivity is refreshing and imbues each line with a spark that engages the listener.

The themes and sentiments may have evolved, but Khaligraph’s music and rhyme schemes remain familiar. That’s both a strength and a detriment to the song. The production is great. I hope motif didn’t lift someone else’s beat again and call it sampling. Like he did in “Yego”. There are simplistic but effective piano keys, drawn-out organs that would make Metro Boomin proud. Soulful cries also back the Kayole rapper’s rhymes. The result is music that is pleasantly familiar but never tired.

The same can’t be said for Khaligraph’s lyricism. He seldom strays from his syrupy flow and elementary trap rhyming. One would have hoped that within the content would have come creativity. However, basic rhyme schemes are abundant and, at times, underwhelming. Though somewhat lacking lyrically, ‘Wanjiru and Akinyi’ is aspirational without sounding forced and wise without being preachy.

However, like in every other song, he feels the need to address his critics. One can only imagine what it would be like to live a life under such intense scrutiny that it feels like you’re constantly being hounded by a pack of angry, hungry wolves. Navigating these incessant rounds of duck and cover from the prying lens of the certified haters is a game that all Kenyan artistes have become accustomed to playing. Nonetheless, it must be hard. And, it definitely must wreak havoc on maintaining any kind of peaceful life. But I really don’t see the need for him to keep on defending himself.

I have a problem with the video. It makes the whole piece of work come off as a disjointed attempt at times, as Khaligraph’s  flow and the all too familiar dark background with smoke come off as a not-so-good fit for each other. A more concerted effort from the director Johnsom Kyalo could have netted a much better result.

Maybe it’s the extra-close shots, maybe it’s the cheap cars, maybe it’s the lighting but this video just seems so cliché and even more unnecessary than anything a Kenyan rapper has ever put out before.  

At a time when Octopizzo and King Kaka have produced messy, ambitious tracks full of statements on art and accountability, Khaligraph’s goals seem modest and quaint. It’s the difference between trying to do something different and trying to stay relevant.

I don’t understand why Khaligraph never thinks of trying out a different video director. I feel like some of his songs would have sent shockwaves all over Africa but the videos that accompanied them stifled their ability to go viral. Johnson Kyalo might be his buddy but in business there is no friendship. The guy doesn’t do him justice.  

We are living in an age where you can be considered a god artiste by having great videos, even if your delivery is whack. The race for Youtube views is real. Khaligraph needs to set his priorities right and put more money on videos.

Make no mistake: this song will be unavoidable in the coming days, as it’ll definitely receive some radio airplay, inspiring some to grind a little harder, motivating those who lack riches to get laid a bit more. But it’s hard to stay in the world of “Wanjiru and Akinyi” for too long. While watching the video, my field of vision kept shrinking until I felt that I was looking at a narrow band of light. There’s something universal about Khaligraph’s determination to feed us the same kind of music in the name of trap, but it begins to feel tedious to linger too long in the self-conflict zone when so much other music aspires to take in the world all at once. He continues to make music that sounds magnificent but leaves you feeling a bit unfulfilled because of a  lack of proper packaging. As fans, we can only hope that this changes soon.
