They’re easily the most vilified alliance on the Internet ; Derided,ridiculed,mocked,trashed,pilloried,pooh-poohed … Everything.
But still,even in the face of all the adversity,negativity,hate and never-ending hate,the Kilimani Mums congregation remains unbowed,unshakable and unmoved
To most,the Kilimani Mums are a gathering of lonely,single bitter women with a bone to crack with every man; a sorry bunch of female losers who spend their time idling away on the Internet,looking for faults and starting feminist wars for the sake of it.
But Kilimani Mums is more than just a gang of petty bozos.
It’s a tight family of no-nonsense lovers of justice and fairness who have lived in a corrupt,unfair world for far too long and would love to make their voices felt – and boy,are they doing it.
In a society as hopelessly patriarchal as Kenya,women had to find solace,to find space and to find a way to talk,express themselves and speak up even when faced with all manner of adversity and opposition – and that’s how Kilimani Mums was born.
It’s one of the biggest Facebook groups with numbers exceeding hundreds of thousands… And also,a group in which you cannot be easily admitted. It takes work – even prayers – for you to make it to the class of people already in the group.
Kilimani Mums was formed…Not to vilify and dehumanize men but to call out their flaws,to air out their weaknesses and to press for a fairer society where no one goes scot free just because they’re either a man,are moneyed or powerful.
The Kilimani Mums have a history of standing up when everyone was sitting,speaking up when everyone was silent,matching forward when everyone was shuffling their feet and raising their fist in the air when everyone was slumbering.
And it’s this sort of attitude and fearlessness that has earned them the kind of whopping hate they endure every single day.

Women were never supposed to talk or to have a voice or to even call for any form of rectification of social ills and whenever that happens,just like Wangari Maathai and Martha Karua and Brenda Fassie before them,they’re thrown to the gallows and called all sorts of names – whores,losers,single mothers,unamarrigable twats,bitter,jobless,idle.
This was evidenced last week on the Classic 105 show that notoriously dissects the family unit with the help of moronic,unschooled callers among them Wakanai.
Wakanai,in his swashbuckling characteristic self,dove into the topic of women in society,lampooning them in general and picking a particular interest in the Kilimani Mums who he eviscerated in an epic idiotic rant exposing the feral,chauvinistic scumbag he always has been.
Maina laughed the whole phone call away. As usual. Glad that the Most Powerful Facebook Community had been viscerally attacked – and glad that that single episode would whip up his show’s ratings and listenership.
Not one to take things lying down,the Kilimani Mums hit back at Wakanai with a viciousness and brutality that made them look like a Russian Army in Aleppo,Syria.
These are women who have never lost a battle they ventured into.
And just like Taytu Betul,the former Queen and Empress of Ethiopia,who viciously ousted the Italian imperialists from the Ethiopian Empire,waging a savage war that totally obliterated the Italian Forces,the Kilimani Mums are a war chest that never runs out of energy,out of steam,out of power and out of ammunition.
Many have tasted the ferocity of this group – and few would love to step on their toes again.
Whether it’s Kofi Olomide or the guy in the viral Mollis recording,whether it’s Ken wa Mwangi or even Wakanai himself,the Kilimani Mums have and will always be a force you cannot vanquish,an army you cannot defeat and a fire you cannot quench.
It’s probably this sort of badassness and brutality that has earned the group the hate they encounter every single day – but just like Yaa Asantewaa,the Queen mother of the Edweso tribe,they remain unshaken,determined,unfazed and untroubled.
Maybe there’s some power in the KOT (Kenyans on Twitter),but even the most notorious KOT members cannot match up to the fire that the Kilimani Mums have continued to light up – burning everything along their way.
You can choose to view them as a bunch of sad,idle irritants or as a female force that has finally woken up, put on the armor of war,said NO to stupidity and set on a journey to liberate their own – and seek justice for the lowly. One Facebook post at a time.
Call them what you may. Deride them all you can but one thing is for sure,you can’t take away this group’s power. Or match it.
