BBA news: Prezzo is the head of the ‘Gossip crew’

I don’t know why people are claiming that Kenya’s representative in the Big Brother house, Prezoo is the head of the

‘gossip crew’ and yet he only speaks the truth.

People are accusing Prezzo’s gossip crew, which consists of his rival DKB and Rocky for having something to say about everything and everyone in the house.

After Prezzo and DKB got into a fight, read more of this here, people are now wondering if the so called ‘gossip crew’ will still exist.

There has been a blame game between the three gossip crew members after rumours started that Barbz bosses around the other girls in the house. This issue made the South African representative to cry.  I still stress that Prezzo is not a gossiper.

Who do you think is the ‘Gossip girl’ in Upvill house?

Prezzo’s Big Brother Stargame Strategy!

Just what is Prezzo’s endgame?

prezzo tattos

Ever since we here at Ghafla brainstormed and gave you #TeamPrezzo, we have to admit that from time to time his erratic behaviour has had our heads swimming.

One minute, Prezzo is his calm, composed and collected self and the next he’s picking fights with Barbs& DKB. One minute Prezzo is the sober, sombre deep& endearing chap we know, the next, he’s a drunken lout yelling at people incoherently about things of little if any relevance.

Just what is the undisputed King of Bling’s strategy? Where -if indeed there is one- is the method to the madness? Where is the genius in these insane antics? One minute prezzo seems to be incharge and the next he’s giving credence to everything Jaguar says about him.

Well, let’s be cerebral for a minute. What Prezzo has successfully done is to get a whole continent to sit up and take notice of him. His antics have managed to piss off a country: SA but they are talking about the chap aren’t they? Don’t believe me? #TeamPrezzo was recently trending worldwide.

And he has galvanized the whole country into a patriotic frenzy. Sure when he gets back, he’ll receive a couple of 4X5s to the head but for now, even celebrities are firmly in his camp albeit out of patriotism. Even Jaguar is firmly behind the chap. Yesterday Jimmy Gait and Holy Dave endorsed him as Kenya’s representative (in Upville).

Then there is the fact that controversy sells. Remove Prezzo from that house and ratings decline because he is where all the energy is. Granted it isn’t always positive but he has a whole continent talking about him ergo BBA cannot afford to chuck him just yet. They need to milk this Prezzo cow for what it’s worth. Prezzo’s antics might just save him it seems but time will tell.

Also, there is the fact that the chap has been the recipient of massive attention &whether positive or negative is irrelevant. All he &his team have to do is find a way to convert the attention into interest in his music. That would need an astute business acumen like Gaetano Kagwa’s. Gaetano converted all the vitriol people had for him while he a housemate into Tv show hosting gigs, radio stints ad infinitum!

But whether or not Prezzo’s antics will result in a prolonged stay as a housemate remains to be seen. only time will tell.

This is my humble opinion.

Diva Avril to Star in a Kenyan soap opera

Award winning artiste Avril Nyambura made a mark in the film industry when she starred in the award winning series

MTV Shuga.  People were impressed how well she turned to be a very good actress such that movie directors wanted to cast her in their up coming films.

The good news is that Avril will be starring in NTV’s local soap opera Mali. The ‘Kitu kimoja’ singer confirmed to Ghafla that she has been cast on the on going TV series Mali.

The series revolves around the lives of an affluent family, that is very rich, but like every family they are faced with issues. The family members are different in character but are all embroiled in an effervescent tales of love, money, power, seduction and success.

Avril will definitely spark the show with both her beauty and talent. I hate soap operas, but Mali is a must watch series.

Ghafla! Movies This Weekend (18th May 2012)

‘The Avengers’ continues to break box office records through its third week with analysts predicting that the action film has already crossed the US$1 billion (approx. Kshs. 83 billion) mark making it one of the greatest movies of all time.

There are rumours that at this cataclysmic rate, the Joss Whedon production may challenge the league of the select few flicks that have crossed the US$2 billion mark: James Cameron’s Avatar and Titanic. Nairobians continue to flock cinema halls filling them almost to capacity to catch the film before the American summer clocks it off the theatre ushering in other blockbusters characteristic of the season.

This weekend, Johnny Depp takes over theatres with his unique adaptation that is second on the Box Office only to ‘the Avengers’. It will be interesting to see how Kenyans respond to the Pirates of the Carribean actor as they see him for the first time since one can remember in a role other than Jack Sparrow.

Below is the bouquette of titles you can enjoy at the theatres this weekend of May 18th 2012:

The world premiere (including in Kenya) of:

The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better…

Here’s a sneak peak into Habida’s new hot video

The hot and sexy Habida released a new song and video to it. The video of the song which is still unknown to us and still unreleased, is soon to be out.

Earlier in January, Habida had a listening party of the song at the SkyLux Lounge in Westlands.  A number of celebrities attended the night event which was just spectacular by the looks of the video (for the listening party).

Not much information about the song is currently available but as soon as it is, you’ll find it right here.

Meanwhile, check out the video for the listening party.

Big Brother, Prezzo is not a snitch

After what happened yesterday night between Prezzo and DKB, the Kenyan representative in Upvill house, Prezzo said that

he doesn’t hold grudges and he hope’s that they can both put their differences behind.

Prezzo was called to the diary room and this is what he said, “Hopefully he’ll listen to what I’ve complained about and we can move on. I spoke to him about all the things he does wrong.” Prezzo listed bad table manners, pointing fingers, not standing up to his fellow men and swearing like a sailor as some of the things that DKB does wrong. “DKB swears a lot. He’s trying to increase his fan base but in the wrong way. He thinks using the B-word makes him cool. He also talks about various parts of ladies’ bodies, which makes him sound disrespectful.”

As much as people say that Prezzo snitched about DKB. I think that he was just saying the truth because other house mates also complained about him.

Check the video: Prezzo speaking in the diary room down here>>>>>

Are Jimmy Gait& Holy Dave really gospel artists?!

Was having an intriguing discussion with a couple of prominent gospel artists today…

And an issue was raised by both in regards to how their music is received. According to Holy Dave and Jimmy Gait, there are some people who attack them for how they choose to put across their message.

True to their word& right on cue, a question was asked via twitter that sought to clarify whether Jimmy’s song featuring DK “Furi Furi” is indeed gospel. The question didn’t seem to bother the two as they calmly cleared the air on the issue.

According to Holy Dave, the songs they put out are for a specific niche: the young, young-at-heart &teenie boppers. Ergo, they have to put the message across in such a way that their audience will receive them. Profound? Nay but for Jimmy Gait to proclaim that he has given his life to Christ “furi furi” is brave.

I consider the move brave because he boldly proclaims his stance and leaves nary a doubt in anyone’s mind as to whom he considers to be his Lord. That clearly classifies him as gospel aye? But he is venturing into the world of the unsaved.

Holy Dave has adopted a similar approach to spreading the gospel. They have been really successful at doing that to the extent that hearing the song “Furi Furi” or “Ni Msoo” which features Holy Dave, “Exponential Potential” by Juliani or “Dakika Tatu” by Daddy Owen at a club, pub &/or jam session doesn’t elicit any blank stares.

Why is it a problem when these lads go after their target audience? If anything, such courage is the reason gospel jams are now mainstream and accepted accross the board.

We need to stop creating mountains out of mole hills& accept the fact that these brave artists have charted the new frontier just as Jesus did. Let us stop rebuking them for exhibiting such bravery in their service to their God.

Afterall, it all boils down to the content of the music, not the music nor the hip factor of the videos& dance moves. Not that i’m a pro at quoting scriptures but didn’t David dance as fervently for Yahweh?!

That is my humble opinion.

Too much passion for music… thus Mercy Myra shed tears

Good music from a more than beautiful musician is what I think of when I hear the name Mercy Myra. Her voice… breath taking.

That is exactly what you see and hear in this video in which Mercy sings her heart out, with passion like I have never seen before. Once she starts singing in the beginning of the video, you will subconsciously sit back and relax. You just can’t help it.

Neither can Mercy Myra herself. Towards the end of the reharsal of the song ‘soldier’, tears flow out of her eyes as she pours out her heart through the music.

This you have to see.

How well do you know your celebz?

So just how well do you know your celebrity personalities?

Had an exhiliarating chat with Gospel’s golden boy Jimmy Gait and the spiritually deep Holy Dave and a couple of things came up that would make for very interesting trivia.

first off, do you know that Jimmy Gait is turning 31 this year? Yup, the artist looks like he is not a day above 26 but he revealed his age to this shocked Ghafla journalist.

JIMMY GAIT

All this talk of age just reminded me of the ever youthful Winnie Nkunda of the Boomba Gals fame and while i know better than to ask a lady her age, it’s still amazing that she hasn’t aged a single bit since she was last in the spotlight of fame.

WINNIE NKUNDA IN ATTENDANCE

Moving right along, did you know that Holy Dave is a lecturer? Yup, the talented Gospel HipHop emceeis a moulder of minds when he’s not out guiding the masses to his saviour.

And did you know that both are involved in charitable works? Jimmy Gait even has a foundation calle Make It Or Make It which has sponsored a CPA student all the way through. This is no mean feat considering that he did all this out of pocket as the foundation has no sponsors. And now his good friend Holy Dave is involved.

This is goodstuff! Mungu atawa bariki.

Top 5 ways to be noticed in this competitive music industry

For an artiste to make it in this music industry, they have to sacrifice a lot. Determination is just but a tip of the iceberg when it comes to the qualities that an artiste must posses. Here are some good ways in which you can emerge on top of this game.

1. Make really good music

This one, even a fresh artiste stepping in a studio booth right now knows this. It is not surprising however to listen to the song once produced only to find that it is a total flop. It might be hard to come up with something interesting, catchy, unique and meticulously produced, but then again that’s where talent, determination and good cash spending steps in.

2. Effectively manage your finances

It is absurd how some artistes want and insist on living the rockstar lifestyle that successful artistes have already achieved, even without the bank to support it. You should always keep a keen eye on your finances. Don’t be too extravagant on celebrity status unless you can really support it. If you really have to spend a lot, do it strategically on your music, this will maintain the faith of your Record Label on you.

3. Have lots of gigs/concerts

All the way from the first grade, you have learned and know all too well that practise makes perfect. The more you perform in concerts or even small shows, the more you gain confidence and skill of a performer. This will also get your name more out there as people will now be familiar with you, your brand and sound. Something else (which is very obvious) is that you will get to mingle with fans and this will build your social status and charisma and will also familiarise you with the media who by the way, like it or not, can build or destroy you. Oh, and of course, you also have to get paid for your music, right?

4. Go extremely HARD on your social media presence

Social media in this now digital world is simply A MUST. There is no way around it (that’s if you want to make it of-course). A well strategized social media marketing plan is mandatory. This will enable you to push your music to your fans no matter the convenience. Simply, this will get as many ears on your music as possible. Most importantly…

5. Get AWESOME promotional photos.

Go all out on this. Whether you agree or not, at most times, books are actually judged by their covers. Yeah! I said it. First impression is everything so when I (a fan) come across your work only to find a rather boring and ‘dead’ photo, I surely won’t click any further. Be ready to spend some good money on an extremely good Photography Company. Trust me, it will be  completely worth every cent.

If Prezzo’s plan before he got to the Big Brother House was to get everyone to know and talk about him, then his plan is a complete success.

With all the drama that he is causing at the Upville House, it is really hard not to acknowledge his presence. From shutting down ladies to picking fights with huge guys, Prezzo is actually the most interesting contestant in the Big Brother Allstars show.

His reputation has gone beyond discussions on Blogs and media, to all kinds of comedy. I came across this funny picture that illustrates the intimidation that Prezzo has caused in the last few days.

What does Ugali and Sukuma Wiki Have to do with the Elections?

The upcoming elections have got a large number of Kenyans on edge, whether they be held in December or March next year, as they fear possible political chaos as predicted by the country’s national security agencies.

The media have taken it upon themselves to drum up support for a peaceful transition, as citizens go to the first polls since the disastrous post election violence that left over 1,500 people dead and over 100,000 displaced back in 2008.

There was and will continue to be, general concensus that the youthful demographic of Kenya are the key to a peacefull process, as this vulnerable group, facing critical unemployment rates, are vulnerable to ‘misuse’ by wealthy individuals willing to further their agenda.

KWELI magazine have in their May issue saught to take a panoramic view of Kenya as political temperatures rise, choosing not to focus on bickering politics but to celebrate the diversity, culture and promise of a nation with a vision to becoming a shining beacon not just to its people, but to the whole of Africa.

The inspiring edition features breathetaking photography and graphics depicting a number of Kenyan aspects including what a post-apocalyptic Nairobi would like. Issues such as the social divide as well positives on the vibrant entertainment scene make it a heartwarming read, as you also may draw a connection between ugali, sukuma wiki and the elections.

Holy Dave is also a teacher. Who would have known?

We have just made a discovery through interview about swiftly risen gospel artiste Holy Dave. Turns out that this hip hop rapper is actually a… wait for it… TEACHER.

This just came out as a by the way during a conversation with the humble yet hyper artiste. Holy Dave is actually a lecturer at the Intraglobal Training Institute which is situated along Moi Avenue, CBD.

When he is not in studio or working on other selfless projects like the ‘Make It or Make It Campaign’ (initiated by Jimmy Gait), he is in class lecturing for the department of Regional Centre for Security and Criminology Studies and really enjoys doing it judging from the expression on his face while he informed us.

He is not only doing great things in the music industry, but also educationally shaping Kenya.

Hats off.

Is Prezzo still married?

Many things have been happening in the Big Brother house concerning Kenya’s representative in the upvill.  Prezzo has been bragging about his wife

Daisy Kiplagat and daughter Zahrie Bhoke to his fellow contestants.

Prezzo was bragging to South African representative, Barbz of how he has a beautiful wife and a super daughter while the SA representative has no family (husband and a kid) and yet she is old.

CMB Prezzo made sure that his fellow housemates got a glimpse of his happy family when he showed them Daisy’s and Zahrie photos.

I think Prezzo might be planning to reconcile with his wife immediately he’s out of Big Brother house.

Plan B would be a ‘Better’ Option

Rapper Plan B is just about to drop his latest video titled ‘Better’, set to be produced by music production powerhouse Ogopa video.

The audio to the single had been released earlier on in the year and the rapper has promised an excellent production after the wait. On the promo video though he says that despite some underlying factors that were threatening to derail his efforts, he’s come out of it all bigger and better.

Jimmy Gait: Furi Furi dance is 100% gospel. Here’s why.

So, we just had Jimmy Gait and Holy Dave at the Ghafla!Kenya offices for an interview on all that’s going on around them (read related article) and their latest project, ‘Make it or Make it Campaign’.

Ever since Jimmy launched his Award winning song, furi furi dance, there has been mixed feelings about the nature and genre of the song. Despite the marvelous reception that the song got, it didn’t reach where it is without the kawaida haters.

Word was that furi furi dance does not fit to be in the gospel category of music. That the song is all about fashion and dancing and nothing to do with God. Earlier today Jimmy responded to these silly remarks.

“I came up with the song during a period of 40 days of fasting and praying. While in the praising mood, I sang aloud to myself ‘I give my life to You… Fully fully fully… I give it to You’. I immediately thought that this would be a great song. I however could not help but think that I needed to make the song more interesting and catchy and that is how I came up with the idea of putting in a Kikuyu vibe, thus ‘my Road I give it to You… Furi furi furi’. What is not holy/gospel in these lyrics?” Jimmy told us.

The passion that he showed when talking about this just says it all. This is gospel power, and Jimmy clearly has it.

PesaPoint Clears the Air on Cynthia Nyamai’s Issue

Following news that Ghafla! reported to you last week about the influence of Twitter and how one media personality and journalist Cynthia Nyamai used it to her delightful benefit, the company involved in the spat have come out to clarify what seems to be a misconception.

Click here to read more about Cynthia Nyamai’s experience and the power of Twitter

The television business news anchor had lost some money through a PesaPoint ATM and did not get what she termed as an adequate response or a refund for over a week which led her to tweet to her followers about avoiding use of their ATMS.

Shortly thereafter, the money Cynthia lost was refunded, but in a press release to the media, PesaPoint’s MD Richard Coate stated:

‘When a transaction fails on any ATM, there follows a process of verifying if indeed cash was dispensed. This process does not always wait for the user to lodge a complaint. It is automatic on our system.

There are however special cases or claims, where verification may take the form of physical counting of cash at the particular ATM, to ascertain if indeed cash was dispensed. This is what usually lead to delays.’

He saught to reassure ATM users that PesaPoint continues to offer a convenient card-less withdrawal service  for Safaricom’s MPESA and Bharti’s Airtel Money.

pesapoint-atm

‘When a transaction error happens during such a Card-less transaction, a refund including the transaction fees is made automatically through the mobile money provider. Sometimes, but on very rare occasions the automatic reversal process does fail, and a manual reversal needs to be actioned.

On the specific issue for Ms Cynthia Nyamai the automatic reversal failed when she did not receive her money from the ATM that was occasioned by the operator’s system timeout. The manual reversal process was initiated but this took longer than normal to resolve which we apologize for.’ Mr. Coate concluded.

#TeamPrezzo updates: Prezzo in another fight?!

Just what is Prezzo doing up in Upville (pun unintended)?!

Prezzo was recently involved in yet another drunk altercation in Upville. The star who was clearly inebriated was involved in a venomous exchange of words with Ghana’s DKB whom he kept encouraging to slap him (Prezzo clearly has alot of vitriol to dish out).

The altercation stems from Prezzo’s belief that DKB is fueling  the tension between himself and “his lady” Goldie. Although i am firmly in #TeamPrezzo, i do not condone such behaviour: behaviour that sullies the good name beer has worked so tirelessly to cultivate -did i say beer, i meant Kenya! Seriously though, What is Prezzo doing? He is feeding the stereotypes the rest of Africa has about Kenyans in as far as alcohol is concerned!

Big Brother had to call Prezzo into the diary room to calm tempers. Sadly if this free fall keeps up (or down) we will be receiving back our celeb in a short while which would prove EVERYTHING Jaguar has been saying about him.

Thus far, Jaguar 1 – Prezzo nil!

Atemi Displays Her Powerful Vocals

Arguably one of Kenya’s vocal Queens, songstress Atemi is building many more bridges the pinnacle of her career. Many Kenyans would list her as a firm favourite if asked to list to list leading female musicians in the country, and the artist does not sit easy on her seeming supremacy.

Atemi has come up with some new music, a dedication to the rythmn and beat of the continent, which flourishes in diversity and authenticity. It’s a song about encouragement and pan-africanism and the effortless flow and use of instrumentals piece together a brilliant production that was included in the BBC’s Africa Beats series alongside other well known musicians across the continent, incuding Christine Kamau the Jazzist and Kidum.

The video quality is undeniably excellent, something we would love to see more in local productions. Here’s Atemi’s performance…
