Camp Mulla haters where are you now?

Remember the missives many were directing towards Camp Mulla?

All that talk about them doing bubblegum music? Well, however you percieve their genre of music, they are way ahead of the rest of the pack. They stayed true to themselves and to their music and it’s clearly paying off. They gave the industry a breath of fresh air.

CAMP MULLA 2
Then there was the missive about them having wasted money on the two videos they released last year. Everyone was quick to talk about how they didn’t feel the videos deserved the price tag slapped on them. But at the end of the day, they accomplished exactly what music videos are meant to accomplish. They got tongues wagging about them and this elevated their profile.

CAMP MULLA

But the most persistent complaint i have heard about these leaders of the cool kidz is that their instrumentals all sound the same. I honestly haven’t noticed this fact if indeed it is fact. If anything, i love the way they keep experimenting. K’Cous samples other tracks and uses sampled vocals on a loop and this approach clearly has struck a chord with the youth all across Africa let alone Kenya.
Well, whatever the criticism is for these cool kidz, their music is clearly appreciated. The proof is in the pudding. They are the first Kenyans to get a B.E.T Award nomination.

The Team Behind This Year’s Pivot East Top App

Gaming application developers, Planet Rackus, emerged as the winners of Pivot East 2012, the tech conference that awards the top mobile and Web applications with grants to boost their apps. This edition was totally different from last year’s where an app entered in the Mobile Health Category, MedAfrica (Shimba Technologies), won. This year, the panelists awarded an entertainment app.

Planet Rackus consists of Mwaura Kirore, the Lead Game Designer and Artist, Duncan Aidoh Onyango, Mobile Game Developer and Joe Murithi Njeru, Platform Developer. Others in the team are 3-D and Motion Designer, Roger Tenenmberger, Fred Kioko acting as a Producer and User Experience Designer, Philip Ranja. Jimmy Gitonga is the Content Developer and Kevin Maina is the Writer.

The teams plans to make money from the game by selling branded merchandize, wallpapers and advertising space to marketers. Ma3Racer is supported on all Nokia phones on the S40 platform that can support FlashLite and is available for free download on the Nokia Ovi Store.

Kaka Sungura just turned Shakespeare. Awesome.

When I informed you guys that Rabbit is also into the spoken word art and therefore a real lyricist, it was just in time for his latest Shakespeare move.

With a bold voice and precise with his words, he brings out his thoughts, visions and opinions through poetry. No beats from drums, just sweet and harmonious music from a piano and a cello, blending all so well with the calmly recited lyrics.

This is the type of track that you would play, sit, relax and just listen carefully to what he has to say.

Have a listen to it below.

THE SIDE SHOWS AT BLANKETS AND WINE

So we all kow that Blankets and Wine went down over the weekend aye?

Well, there were a gang load of awesome performances o stage such as Queen Mashie, Monique and the main attraction was South Africa’s TKZEE. I’m sure there have been alot of stories about the onstage performances but do you know what happened off-stage?
Well, to start off, the organization that went into the whole event was top notch! Everything ran like clockwork. Muthoni Ndong’a (the successful business woman) was seen running up and down ensuring that her brainchild ran like a well oiled machine. What impressed me most was the passion and dedication with which her auxilliary staff went about their work.
Then there was the fact that a gang’a celebrities came out to show love and support for the event. Octopizzo who recently featured in a video with Muthoni The Drummer Queen (the musical alter ego) was preset with his daughter. DNG the number one hypeman was also present. Ant Neosoul was also in the “house” with his abundant energy (i actually think he could be a source of alternative and green energy). And Chimano from the super group Sauti Sol was also in attendance and so were Shappaman and Taio Tripper who were surrounded by a bevy of beauties swarming round them for a chance to have their photos taken with the mega stars.
When TKZEE did their set, the response was massive. Clearly Kenyans still have love for the South Africa group. But what astounded me was the fact that when they’d completed their set, the DJ took over and when he played “Party Don’t Stop” by Camp Mulla the reception was wild! All the lasses in attendance screamed and the lads begun rapping along. What does that say about how well their songs and talent has been recieved?
There was food and drink available at the venue for those who had run out of either the frothy elixir or food. Osperian provided some of the best pizza i have ever had in all of my 23yrs on God’s green Earth. It was mid blowing to say the least. I was later informed that they were Italian pizzas. I don’t know what that was meant to imply, i simply know that the pizzas were orgasmic for my taste-buds.
Catch afew of the sights you missed out on here and next time make plans to join the rest of Nairobi’s live music lovers.

Get Rabbit’s new mixtape today. Here’s how.

Lately Kaka Sungura has been the topic of hiphop conversations, among other artistes like Octopizzo and Camp Mulla.

Doing music most of his time, if not all the time, Rabbit has recently done collaborations with some of Kenya’s finest such as Anto Neosoul (coming soon) and even some of Tanzania’s finest, Sudi Boy (Nakuchukia).

Some of you probably didn’t know that Kaka Sungura is also a spoken word artist. He has displayed his knowledge and talent in poetry in his latest mixtape titled ‘THE LAST KING OF… MIXTAPE’, which also contains his music.

The mixtape is dropping today and is available on this line —–> 0722946330.

Get your’s while stocks last.

Here’s a taste of what to expect in the mixtape.

Zainab’s disqualification might have saved her marriage and dignity.

This beautiful turned scary girl should thank Big Brother for disqualifying her from the show because if not, she might have ended up doing something that would have destroyed her life back at home. That something is sleeping around with anyone that would let her.

Let’s be honest, Zainab was more focused in getting laid than she was in winning the price. No, she really was. She even told Big Brother in one of her diary sessions that she was really missing and craving for sex. I know it’s intriguing and all but did you know that she is actually a married woman?

zainab 2

All the times she tried to lure Keitta into her trap (legs) while still in DownVille, and the rest of the time in UpVille she spent flirting intimately with Prezzo, her Turkish husband was probably clutching a glass of juice, staring angrily at the TV set, confused and lost.

Personally, I think she deserved to get her shades knocked off her face (no offence ladies).

I wonder what she would be going home to if she had actually been successful in getting “lucky”!

Ma3racer’s Win At Pivot East: Positive News For Kenya’s Gaming Industry

Gaming is not a huge industry in Kenya as it is in more developed countries. There is a gaming culture and there have been a number exhibitions and competitions over the past decade, but locally produced games have not really caught on.

Kenya’s overall tech space has grown and some developments have received regional and worldwide recognition. The country is now considered as the continent’s technological hub and there has been a rise in application development, mostly for mobile, as it has the highest penetration.

With all this gains, gaming has been left out. Although you may come across a few on app shops, they rarely make tech news. Supporting components for game development like 3-D modeling, animation and application building are growing and are more lucrative ventures on their own.

The most high profile gaming project has been the Homeboyz-produced and Warner Bros-funded video game a couple of years ago, which was to feature Kenyan artistes. But the tide might be turning. Three of the five finalists at the Pivot East 2012 tech competition this week were games. The winner in the category was Ma3racer, a Planet Rackus-developed racing game application set in Nairobi.

The entry also garnered the more votes than every other entrant in the other categories to be crowned the overall winner of this year’s Pivot East, a big achievement considering this year’s event had entries from all over East Africa. This bodes well for the gaming industry as it shows that experts and investors saw financial value in a local entertainment product.

Prezzo is now Upville’s comedian

With the exit of the professional comedian (DKB), who wasn’t that funny after all, comes a natural comedian. Previously, Prezzo has concentrated so much in being a pain in the neck for fellow housemates, up until he got his groove back on with Goldie.

Since the beginning of this week, we have seen change in mood and character from Prezzo. Yesterday evening, just before the housemates retired to bed, he gave Keitta, Manetta and Goldie an exclusive comedy night as he imitated his friend Roki and DKB. The three could not control their laughter and joy as Prezzo did his thing.

As if that’s not enough, he lured Keitta into his mischievous yet interesting and funny plan to give Barbs a scare in the morning. The two dressed up their Art Task Statue and placed it right next to Barbs’ bed as she slept. I know for sure that the reaction will be priceless.
It’s good to finally see this side of Prezzo and hopefully it will stick.

Prezzo 2

If it is just one of his strategies, I see it working on the rest of the housemates.

PREZZO DROPS A VIDEO!

Being in the BBA house isn’t enough to hold back this man!

Prezzo must have been putting down some serious work before he went into the BBA Upville digs and this fact is evident in the rate at which he is releasing tracks and the videos to them.
Ally B and Prezzo have dropped the video to the track titled “Mimi na Wewe” which was covered and reviewed by Ghafla! Question is will it become a club banger?
Watch the video and let us know what you think.

JUNIA HOT FOR KENYA’S MALONZA!

It seems Prezzo and Alex aren’t the only ones driving the lasses crazy down south at BBA.

Malonza and Junia have been flirting like crazy and things got to the point where Junia (who is from Namibia) told Malonza that she is feeling randy and she’d like him to do something about that fact.

MALONZA AND ALEX
What caught me off guard was the straight forward approach the 23 year old lass adopted. It was actually rather impressive that she summoned the inner strength to openly talk about her feelings seeing as how most lasses are shy. Talk about breaking down barriers and tearing down stereotypes.
For his part, Malonza was calm ad collected ad took the whole coversation into his stride. It was actually pretty awesome watching his nonchalant reaction. Talk about a smooth operator.
It seems that the Kenyans in the house are all ladies men. Watch the video below——->

CATCH AVRIL AT THE BARBEQUE FESTIVAL NEXT WEEKEND!

Attention all meat lovers: Barbeque Festival is back for another edition.

The event which will be hosted at The Jockey Club has reinvented itself. The number of meat grillers has been scaled down but they have compensated for this by adding an interesting and mouth-watering feature: the meat will be roasted as it is in 5 different countries.
Simply put, you’ll be able to have meat as it is roasted in Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya (ofcourse), Turkey and Idia. The last nation promises to be more than just a journey for the palate but for the mind aswell seeing as i am already wondering whether Hindus eat nyam chom. Already the prospect of going if ot just to see what India has to offer at a BBQ is enticing.
And if you’re into celebrity spotting, you can catch Avril at the event. She recently tweeted that she is already doing some tummy preparations in anticipation for the BBQ fest.

Fena Gitu’s Fenamenal Woman Finally Gets a Video

Fans of neo-soul artiste, Fena Gitu, will be happy to see the release of her first video. The video is for her hit single, Fenamenal Woman. The song which has received wide airplay in local neo-soul and alternative music radio shows in the last year is a celebration of women for their strength and courage.

The USIU graduate also raps and has performed at the monthly WAPI (Words & Pictures) event, a monthly hip-hop, poetry and arts showcase. The artiste has performed in numerous shows over the last three years, the biggest one being her opening for Vivian Green when she was in the country to perform during Capital FM’s Lounge Unplugged show in October last year.

The song was produced by Jaaz Odongo with guitar by Isaac Hunja, while the video was directed by Matt Goldman.

BBA: ‘You’re Not My Type!’ – Janette to Kenya’s Alex

While Malonza is clearly having loads of luck with the ladies, his brother Alex seems to be having a tougher time pairing up with a housemate. Then again it could all just be a calculated ploy to stay in the Stargame, you never know.

Uganda’s Janette took an opportunity to approach Alex and ruffle up his feathers abit, saying that the Kenyan just isn’t her type of man. Alex seemed to care less about what Janette said as he heartily laughed off all she had to say, taking it all with a pinch of salt.

‘I like it if my boyfriend hits me” Janette emphatically declared, “Stop thinking that I want you…I know you want me but… this (pointing at Alex) is not my type!”

The tiny Ugandan had previously failed in her attempt to grab Malonza’s attention and maybe just maybe she decided to take the rejection out on his brother instead.

How It Went Down at Pivot East

The two-day Pivot East tech competition has come to an end. This year’s event had finalists from around East Africa trying to impress panelists with innovative Web and mobile applications. The entries were divided into the following categories: Financial Services, Business and Resource Management, Entertainment, Mobile Society and Utilities.

Fomobi Solutions’ SchoolBursar beat out ChamaPro, Changamka, mCollector and Pay4Us to win the financial services category. The app is reliant on M-Pesa and manages school fee payment, reports to guardians and administration on fee balances.

Uganda’s Afro Cyber Inc Solutions’ EasyOrder won in the Business and Resource Management category scoring more points than Bei Nafuu, Dairy Sacco, Get-it and Wakili. EasyOrder is SMS-based and simplifies supplies management.

In the entertainment category, the localized racing game, Ma3racer, emerged the winner over other games, RunForAfrika and Tough Jungle, chat application, Mingle, and gambling app, TUBET. The Planet Rackus-developed game is set in Nairobi and impressed the panelists because it already has a sizeable fan base.

MPrep scored the most points in the mobile society category beating out eLimu, mPoultry and Sarura. MPrep had less competitors to beat after StorySpaces was eliminated in the last minute. AppsDivisions’ MafutaGo was the top app in the utilities category. Others in the category were 6ixDegrees, CrowdPesa, mTracker and M-Verified.

The overall winner was chosen by determining which presentation received the most votes overall across all categories. Planet Rackus’ Ma3racer garnered most votes to win this year’s Pivot East competition. The win means they’ll get an all expenses paid trip to GITEX Technology Week in Dubai to showcase their work.

BBA: Malonza and Junia Get Their Flirt On

Kenya’s Malonza has, from the onset, proved to be quite the illusive one with the ladies in the Big Brother Africa Stargame house. Part of the duo of brothers representing the country has become synonimous with keeping thins ‘light and simple’ in Downville, but it seems all that is about to change.

In the first week of entering Downville, Malonza had already shared a passionate kiss with Namibia’s Junia, and the beautiful Southerner thought she had bagged the good looking Kenyan. Uganda’s Janette came into the picture though, trying to distract Malonza away from that seeming interest, but she was hugely unsuccessful.

The Kenyan’s strategy has so far been in befriending the housemates and avoiding any conflict, much unlike Prezzo’s antics in Upville: it would be interesting to see how this pans out for the brothers who are really not that far from the grand prize now with practically half of the housemates evicted.

Seemingly the attraction between Malonza and Junia has all but intensified these past few weeks. The two could be seen outrightly flirting last night as Malonza asked Junia what her take was on sexiness. She cheekily told him she wouldn’t give him an answer if he is not prepared to do anything about it. They fervently flirted from then on till Jessica interrupted their exhange.

Have a look at the footage below…

Louis Otieno Cleared of Murder Charges

Former TV anchor Louis Otieno has officially been cleared of murder charges by Kenya’s Law Courts over the death of a young Kenyan woman, Careen Chepchumba on Valentines Day this year.

Louis otieno had earlier come out admitting that indeed the two had become ‘close friends’ but he vehemently denied that they had any sexual relationship.

“She started to share stuff with me and I realised she was living in a difficult home. She started talking of having conservative parents and an overly possessive father, wondering when she will get married and what sort of a man would get her father’s approval,” Louis told the media in an earlier press conference, adding that, “She then started talking of physical and sexual abuse. My heart went out to her as I have been vocal on these things and here was someone suffering at my doorstep.”

careen

The late Careen Chepchumba

Speculation was rife that he was involved in the cold blooded killing especially after the media personality did not attend Careen’s burial in Nandi District in the same month. Otieno however came out to say that there had been conflict between Careen and her family as they did not approve of the two of them being friends.

The family had called for a speedy investigation into Careen’s murder as they did not wish to rely on speculation only, saying they would assist where they can. Louis Otieno’s vindication comes four months after intensive scrutiny into the matter by security agencies in the country.

Mali Costs 100 Million To Make

What would it take to create an awesome tv show such as Mali?

Stew on that for a minute. What would it take to actually make a show that would be as critically acclaimed as Alison Ngibuini’s masterpiece? Well to start off, you’d need the vision and foresight to come up with a believable and relateable.
Once you have this you need the budget. An episode of MALI takes roughly THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND plus to produce. Yup, while they say that the best things in life are free, the mature know that quality takes money to achieve and MALI costs over 100 MILLION for 326 episodes.
The next thing you need would be a cast of talented actors and a great production team which i guess the money would procure for you and voila, you have an awesome critically acclaimed show!

The Magnate Runner-up Never Let Failure Put Her Down

Lina Marie Dyur, he Magnate TV show second runner-up had to fight fierce competition to make it to the finale. She didn’t win the ultimate prize, which was Kshs. 1.5 million seed money to pump into the winning business idea. She wound up as second-runner up in the competition.

One of the qualities that probably helped push her so far in the competition was her ability to endure setbacks. In a recent interview with The Standard’s Eve Gal, she spoke about her previous work experience in Zimbabwe at AFDEM (The African Civilian Response Capacity for Peace). She worked at the NGO as an IT and communication liaison until 2011 after funding ended and she had to lose her job.

Having accomplished so much and with an impressive resume, she still found herself without employment. That is when she decided to concentrate on her own company, Firestorm, a communication strategy firm for small and medium enterprise, which she had already registered it earlier. Due to loss of employment, she finally got time to concentrate on it.

She participated in The Magnate TV show in the hopes of winning the top prize to fund Maya Expo, a health event for women to promote health and wellness. She didn’t win the prize but she has still seen her idea to fruition. She held the first Maya Expo at the Junction last month and hopes to do one in October for breast cancer awareness.

Despite the setback she suffered in Zimbabwe and not winning on The Magnate, each time she has managed to recover and bounce back with her own projects.

What The Magnate 2nd Runner-up is Up To

Last year CfC Stanbic produced Kenya’s first financial reality TV show. The Apprentice-style show pitted 14 entrepreneurs presenting them with business scenario tasks to test their skill, test their business acumen and see their potential. Up for grabs was Kshs. 1.5 million seed capital to execute a business plan, Vivian Mutimbia eventually won the top prize.

Second runner-up Lina Marie Dyur was recently interviewed by The Standard’s Eve Gal about her background, her experience on the show and what she’s been up to since. In the interview she spoke about her communications strategy company, Firestorm, which provides communication solutions for small and medium entrepreneurs.

The entrepreneur who has worked for media stations such as East FM and KTN has now branched into events. Last month, she organized the Maya Expo at The Junction. The event was held to sensitize women on the benefits of wholesome living, health-wise, and she hopes to hold a breast cancer themed edition in October. Maya Expo was her entry in The Magnate TV show competition.

BBA: ZAINAB ON TAPE TRYING TO NYERI DKB

With the storm finally settling on the whole fiasco, most of you don’t know that Zainab tried to pull a Nyeri on DKB!

That’s right ladies and gentlemen, Zainab tried to pull a Nyeri on DKB after he had walked away. For many a day now, everyone has been targetting DKB for target practice and has been throwing shots at the lad from left right and centre.
The question no one has asked is what was Zainab’s role in all this. So far only Rabbit has asked the tough questions. Was there more than meets the eye in that altercation? The easy approach is to issue a blanket condemnation of DKB’s actions but after analyzing the videos, i can hoestly say that while his reaction was reprehensible, Zainab continued to take advantage of the situationlong after DKB had walked away.

DKB
Zainab instigated the whole altercation and it blew up in her face. Do not get me wrong, i am not in any way condoning DKB’s reaction but he had turned away from the lass before she jumped in his face and broke the camel’s proverbial back.
Long after that had happened, she continued to throw dishes and utensils at him and at some point picking a pot of boiling water and attempting to scald him! Zainab ATTEMPTED TO SCALD DKB! No one has raised their voice to condemn her actions yet everyone is fighting to be the next to tell DKB how badly he messed up?! Kedu?! Hello? Am i the only one who sees the problem in this approach?
That is my opinion! And you can catch that video here——->

Did you know: Interesting facts about music.

Interesting facts about music for all you wagenge out there:

Did you know that cows listening to music give off more milk!
Did you also know that your heartbeat changes with the music you’re listening to
In the same vein, it has been argued that music affects it’s listeners moods and can heighten emotions such as anger or even attentiveness (although this is not an emotion).
And did you know that listening to music helps increase one’s threshold for pain? But again this is dependent on the genre of music you are listening to.

MUSIC NOTES
Music is used in waiting rooms and when you get put on hold because it gives the illusion that less time has passed by. Think about it…
And finally for all you music buffs, did you know you actually have a reason for claiming that you are addicted to an artists music? Apparently, scientists hold that music is as addictive as sex!

Valerie Kimani: lessons for TPF’s current contestants

TPF contestants should read from a page in Valerie Kimani’s book.

Just to recap for those of us with short-term memory retention issues, Valerie Kimani was the winner of the first spin-off of Tusker Project Fame. Her win was considered controversial but even as people doubted her, she not just rose above their doubts, she soared.

VALERIE KIMANI 1
She recorded her debut album called “Baiskeli” with Gallo Records and like most greats, she was unfortunately not as appreciated at home as she was abroad. She then turned her sights onto acting and she starred in Shuga. From there she went on to perform in a theatrical piece alongside Eric Wainaina. Unfortunately, her story wouldn’t be complete without mentioning her darkest days. She had a rough patch as do we but what astounded me about her resilience is that when everyone had counted her down and out, a phoenix rose from the ashes .
Since then she has been growing from strength to strength. She has had a steady acting gig on an NTV show. Why do i think the current contestants should read a page from her book? Well, she is the most successful TPF artist. Aside from that, she is the most resilient.
If they can learn from her, not only will they be successful, they will be able to surpass her level of success!
That’s my humble opinion though.

KTN Team in The USA to Listen to Pleas of the Diaspora

The Kenya Television Network (KTN) has sent a team, led by journalist James Karani on a fact finding mission, courtesy of KenyanDiasporaLink.com to hear the views of Kenyans in the diaspora about issues such as voting, dual citizenship, immigration and the new constitution.

This follows complaints which media houses in Kenya had been received from the diaspora regarding the upcoming general elections, set to be the biggest and most expensive in the country’s history.

The venue for this forum will be the Swahili Village restaurant in Washington D.C on the 9th of June 2012 from 3.00pm. The KTN team will also visit other American cities such as New York and Dallas on the 8th and 10th of June 2012 respectively.

The Kenya Diaspora Link is a networking website that targets Kenyans living abroad and was created to bridge the gap between Kenyans in the diaspora and Kenya, providing a centralized avenue through which Kenyans may share their thoughts and venues on issues which affect the country.

Campaign to Make TPF Reject a Star

Two weeks ago, the Tusker Project Fame judges locked Juliet Seleina out of the round of 18 in the singing competition. She seemed like a sure-shot contestant and one that would probably have gone long way in the competition but the judges threw a curveball by denying her a chance to go ahead. The Internets went crazy. Most were of the opinion that a mistake had been made.

Right after being kicked out of Project Fame, there was an online campaign launched to look for her and make her a star. There was a call for a stylist to redo her look, which was considered the main reason she got kicked out. A recording studio is also needed so that she can start off the career she and many other Kenyans think she deserves.

Juliet, who comes from Nakuru, might have to move to Nairobi to increase her options in terms of recording studios. So far, Elayne Okaya has offered to do her make-up and Jaaz Odongo offered to produce her music.

Many may not have been happy with her after an interview she did with the Daily Nation interview in which she came out as boastful. But it can’t be denied that she is talented and with the right push, has the potential to go far in the industry.

Juliet has vowed to be big before TPF crown their own winner. Well, with that statement, all eyes will be on her and it’s a race against time ensure she reaches her goal.

Amileena is shining yet again. Check out the new video.

So, you have probably heard Amileena’s latest song, ‘Shine’ which is as beautiful as it is uplifting. Once you hear the voice coming out of this bold artist, you just can’t get enough of the vocals.

The video for the song produced by RKay is finally out and I have to say that it is just as sweet as the song. As the little girl in the video displays the dreams held by young musicians at their homes, Amileena shows how they come to be.

If this track had a face, it would be extremely gorgeous.

The Entertainment Apps to Look Out For at Pivot East

The Pivot East 2012 announcements will be made today. The winner will get an all expenses paid trip to Dubai to showcase their work at GITEX Technology Week at the Dubai International and Convention and Exhibition Center. GITEX focuses on technological advancements in the Middle East, South Asia and Northern Africa. Pitching has been going over the last two days at the Ole Sereni Hotel on Mombasa Road.

The competition has been divided into five categories, with a winner in each and the entrant with the highest overall score being the ultimate winner. The categories are Financial Services, Business and Resource Management, Entertainment, Mobile Society, Utilities.

The Entertainment category has TUBET (bet placing and claiming) by Squad Digital, Ma3racer (localized racing game) by Planet Rackus, Mingle (chat application) by Dotideas Technology, Run For Afrika (pan-African racing game) by Run For Africa and Tough Jungle (jungle adventure game) by Elan Telemedia.

Most of the finalists in this category were gaming applications, with the most interesting being the Ma3racer, mostly because it has been localized. That might be its selling point. A chat application needs a serious marketing campaign before it gains any ground and even with that, it would need a unique feature to set it from the rest. For example, it would probably have to work on every platform, unlike WhatsApp. Squad Digital’s TUBET seems to be the strongest contender in this category not only because it’s unique in this market, but because it has a clear revenue stream.

The event is sponsored by Samsung, infoDEV, Omidyar Network with Nokia, InMobi, Facebook, Google, Safaricom, Mercy Corps, Zuku and Capital FM.

Roki wants Prezzo all to himself… this is just weird.

So, back to the Big Brother Upville House. Apparently Roki says that he is happy for Prezzo and Goldie getting back together. We all know how tight these two housemates are (Prezzo and Roki) and according to Roki, Goldie might cause a drift to their relationship.

Today morning, while hanging out with Keitta, Roki sayd that he had last night updated his status update, to give Prezzo and Goldie some space. Further into the conversation, he confessed that the one thing that would make him doubt Prezzo’s loyalty to him would be spending too much time with Goldie. Jealousy is actually building up right here.

Prezzo and Roki

Looks like Prezzo has to set some priorities straight and make a choice. Awkward.

Meanwhile, Goldie is back to her usual self. Thanks to Prezzo’s comeback. Check out the jovial Goldie below.

P-Unit set to drop their clothing line

Joining the ever growing list of enterpreneurial emcees, P-unit have announced that they are set to drop their clothes line this month.

The clothes line will include self-designed stunners (who still says stunners), caps t-shirts and much more. The move actually doesn’t come as a surprise given that the trio have been branching out from their traditional field onto pursuits such as tv shows and the like. They also have an apt fashion sense so i for one am anticipating the material they’ll put out.
They even compared their clothes to their music which we all have to admit is pretty awesome. According to them they will undergo the same creative process their songs and videos undergo before they get put out.
Clearly Kenyan emcees are beginning to look beyond music for longevity. We’ve seen Octopizzo’s clothes, now let’s bring on P-units!

The Top 10 Event Venues in Nairobi

Any truly global city has a series of fascinating and dynamic entertainment venues that not only its populace but also tourists from around the world can enjoy. Rest, relaxation and enjoyment are all integral parts of life which have to be satiated in wide array of ways, and the more diverse a city’s offerings the more vibrant its citizens.

We introduce you to a list of Nairobi’s top 10 most popular entertainment venues for 2012. These are arguably the best entertainment spots in the city with regular events taking place as well as unique features that set them apart from other feature spots in the capital:

10. National Museums of Kenya
A convincing extensive renovation transformed this once dreary and colonial-themed artifact into a spectacular modern showcase of heritage. Pristinely set on Museum Hill on Nairobi’s Central Business District periphery, the National Museum’s location is perfect because of its proximity to downtown as well as the massive crowd it would easily attract.

Facilities at the Museum include an adequate auditorium which has hosted a number of high profile awards and nomination nights such as the 2012 Groove Awards nomination night and some album and artiste launches. Conference facilities are also an extra feature as well as the wide collection of artifacts celebrating the history of this great country and which is the hallmark and purpose of the National Museum.

9. Westgate Shopping Mall
One of the city’s newest and most luxurious shopping malls, Westgate is strategically tucked away on the border of the plush neighbourhoods of Northern Nairobi and the bustling Westlands business and entertainment district.

ent westgate
This is not just any shopping mall, it features hundreds of niche retail shops, banking facilities, cinema halls , coffee shops and restaurants. The layout of Westgate also makes it attractive to festivals, theme performances and mini-concerts.

8. Kenyatta International Conference Center
The KICC has for close to four decades been the hub of all conferences and concerts in the wider East Africa, ranging from exhibitions to award ceremonies and political functions. Numerous multipurpose halls, state of the art support equipment, extensive grounds which can handle enormous crowds and the fact that the tower is smack in the middle of the city and the greatest landmark in the country make it one of the most ideal entertainment.

7. Bomas of Kenya
The broad rotundra of the main arena at the Bomas of Kenya makes it the perfect setting for any conference or extravaganza that requires most of the audience seated and observing while still maintaining a central and focused orientation. With a capacity of about 2,000 people, an extensive garden area and the additional feature of the iconic displays of historical African artifacts and homesteads would provide attendees with more to do while at the venue.
Its location on the outskirts of the capital also provides a peaceful and welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of the Central Business District but may prove quite the challenge to maximize on the numbers of those who may attend an event, considering the fact that the area is mostly accessible to residents to the South of Nairobi.
The Bomas of Kenya has hosted a series of concerts and conferences which include the Schools and Colleges Drama Festival, Zuku’s Night of a Thousand Laughs which featured leading comedians from across the continent as well as the Tusker Lite edition with American RnB singer Joe Thomas performing.

6. Uhuru Park/ Central Park
One of the capital’s most iconic recreational areas, the adjacent parks provide city residents with a welcome breather from the intense human and vehicular traffic just across Uhuru Park. Families and couples can be seen strolling through the greens on weekends, enjoying boat rides and the amusement park to the far right corner of Uhuru Park.

Across Kenyatta Avenue is Central Park, a more relaxed setting with a simple children’s playground adn traffic learning area. The Nyayo Monument is also popular with both local and foreign tourists as photographers regularly indulge interested people in taking photos with the monument as a backdrop.

5. The Village Market
Nairobi’s self-proclaimed theme park, one of the largest in the region as a matter of fact, the Village Market provides a unique blend of functionality, originality and a spectacular fusion of technology with all that is vintage African. You can book your Kenya Airways flights, stay at the 5-star Tribe Hotel or go swimming at the large and intricate waterworld all within the same complex.

4. Nyayo National Stadium
The largest of all leading entertainment venues that make the list, the stadium is of course primarily used as a sporting venue for both national and international football matches, and even rugby tournaments such as last year’s Safaricom Sevens.

ent nyayo
Countless other feature events such as marathons and concerts also transform Nyayo into an amazing experience, much like the Kenya LIVE grand finale and the Mater Heart Run. The close to 30,000 capacity stadium makes it the perfect choice dor event organizers, not forgetting its central location, in comparison to the more modern Kasarani Sports Complex.

3. Impala Club Grounds
The highlight of Nairobi’s Ngong Road, the Impala Grounds provide adequate greenery and grass for outdoor events that shouldnt be too far from downtown in order to attract a sizeable crowd.
Proximity to shopping malls, health and fitness facilities as well as a residential area and hospital make it another attractive venue to hold events.

2. The Sarit Center
The establishment’s by-line describes itself in a nutshell – A City within a City – you can find all there is to find for an entertainment seeker. From the days when Yaya Center, The Mall Westlands and the Sarit were the only shopping malls in the city, this venue shook off its constrictions and underwent a massive expansion project that saw it more than double its size and features and now boasts an impressive collection of all-you-can-eat, all-you-can-spend and all-you-can-watch facilities, including 3D cinema halls and a dedicated gaming section.

1. Carnivore Restaurant
Arguably the most famous entertainment venue in the Safari Capital of the World, this venue has hosted countless series of events and functions, firmly placing it as a preferred venue for events. The fact that the restaurant is located at the edge of the Nairobi National Park and has its own extensive grounds perfect for any form of outdoor event makes it attractive for organizers.
The Simba Saloon and Lounge is also a popular restaurant for both locals and foreigners who put Carnivore on their to-do-list when in Nairobi. Leading DJs regularly grace the large dance floor and international celebrities occasionally choose to spend their nights at the venue.
The restaurant is also close to Splash Waterworld and served by a single lane road, as well as a slip road in the opposite direction, both towards Langata Road and bypass.
