Mohammed Ali at It Again

In 2008, James Ng’ang’a Kiarie was killed in Nairobi but to date his assailants are still at large. He was burnt alive in his car and police are yet to unearth the circumstances that led to his death since so many controversies surround his death.

However, the bold investigate journalist Mohammed Ali decided to get to the bottom of this. Typical of his exposes, Moha managed to find out that Kiarie’s death involved a land ownership tussle and some prominent personalities were involved.

This is the second major expose that Moha has done since he joined NTV from KTN. Together with John Alan Namu, the two have formed the strongest investigative journalist team in the country. Check out Msaragambo wa Ardhi below;

Janet Mbugua’s “New Boyfriend” Comes Out To Clarify The Situation

Well, after telling you i was sceptical about the news carried in The Standard’s segment called “Monday Blues”, i seem to have been vindicated.

Janet Mbugua’s alleged boyfriend has come out to counter the rumours that he is dating Janet Mbugua. And he took to Facebook to do so and here3’s what he said:

The insinuation by The Standard newspaper Monday blues that i am dating Janet Mbugua is not True, The Sunday nation (buzz)of yesterday had the same picture depicting the correct position. We were judges at the Miss Catholic university with Janet among others. The comments attributed to me in that gossip page are not mine and are therefore not only erroneous but also misleading.

Akon signs 14 year old ‘homeless’ Kenyan boy to Konvict Family (video)

This weekend turned out to be rather fortunate for one kid who has been living a life that no man would wish for his son. He might have just approached Akon and his entourage just for laughs at first, or maybe he was really up to it. Either way, he got his shot and he didn’t waste it.

This fourteen year old boy, Wilson, stopped Akon and his entourage on the way to the concert and decided that that was probably the right time to pour his soul out to Akon and seek for a chance in the Konvict Family Records. Crazy? Think again.

After telling Akon all about how his father mistreats him and sometimes forces him to sleep outside, how much he loves music and has no way of getting into a studio since he has no money, surprisingly, Akon decides to give him a chance. Lets him get into his car and heads over to the concert together.

“This is all too easy,” you are definitely thinking this right now. It would be that easy if he Akon had agreed to signing him right there and then, but no. Akon made it hard for him. He exerted pressure on this kid and placed him on the stage, infront of a live audience, for the first time, and told him to perform. That should have been his cue for taking off, but this kid took the mic and what came next was just amazing. You gotta see this for yourself in the video below.

After his short performance, Akon announces that Wilson is the newest member of the Konvict Family. Priceless moment right there. So now, Wilson gets to fly off in the sunset and live the American dream.

Could this be the next African musical success story just like Akon was?

Caroline Mutoko Flaunts Her Scenic Home (Photos)

APOLOGY: Caroline Mutoko has officially confirmed that this is not her house. We are sorry for any confusion caused.

Just last week sassy hip hop singer Stella Mwangi showed us her high-end neighbourhood and now Kiss 100’s Caroline Mutoko has followed suit. The candid radio personality is known for her love for impeccability and her possessions are nothing short of that. She recently flaunted her well-manicured garden and part of her house.  Take a look;

At this rate, I think someone should come up with the Kenya’s version of MTV Cribs.

Janet Mbugua’s New Boyfriend

According to the Standard’s “Monday Blues”, businessman Gor Semelango told them that he is “enjoying close friendship with celebrity TV host Janet Mbugua”.

And though i have my reservations on the matter, the Monday Blues seem to believe that the comment implies that the two are an item.

The lovely Janet Mbugua and her new beau were reported to have stepped out for an evening of merriment at Carnivore’s Simba saloon for Catholic University’s Mr and Miss Catholic University where they were said to have been exchanging goo-goo eyes. Cute.

“We were at Carnivore for the Mr and Miss Catholic University ceremony. We had a blast. Janet and I are tight. I wouldn’t mind taking goats and bulls to her family if I was ever asked to,” Semelango remarked.

“She is really pretty. She has a very warm heart. I mean everyone likes her…” he offered.

Gangsters In Parliament

As the year winds down and the election approaches, it’s expected that politically-leaning songs will be released. So far, we have already seen such tracks from KenRazy and Octopizzo, now it’s Jabali Afrika.

The band is made up of Joseck Asikoye, Justo Otongo, Dumisizwe Bhembe and Victor Savani. The Kenyan–mostly US-based–band are most famously known for their track, Aoko.

In their latest single, they talk about the state of leadership, their views on the people running the government and the character of those who occupy the parliament. And they have nothing nice to say about them. Check out Gangsters In Parliament below.

SKYFALL Review: 007 is BACK at his best!

“I don’t know about the rest of you, but I really think there hasn’t been a more entertaining Bond film EVER.” Those were the first words I heard after watching Skyfall, and I couldn’t agree less. With three viewings under my belt, I’m convinced this is not just possibly the best Bond movie, but also one of the best action-adventures of the decade. Possibly of all time.

Sam Mendes directs the film, starting off with a bang; a nailbiting rooftop chase of a kind you have NEVER seen before. This movie is a great reminder that all the CGI movies we’ve been subjected to lately are no match for good-old superb stunts juxtaposed with unbelievable scenery…

ghafla james bond skyfall 9

The stellar ensemble cast of Skyfall

The stellar ensemble cast brings together the new Bond girl Bernice Marlohe, the oh-so-evil-but-surprisingly-lovable-and-gravely-wronged villain played by Javier Bardem, the quintessential ‘M’ (the only carry-on cast member from the Pierce Brosnan 007 era) played by Judi Dench, the annoying and devious beaurocrat always switching things up unnecessarily played by Ralph Fiennes, the entertaingly trigger happy gamekeeper played by Albert Finney and Daniel Craig as 007 once again.

ghafla james bond skyfall 5Its a refreshingly simple story. Not focused too much on impossible gadgetry but more on building the story of 007 as the suave assassin we all love. Long-standing Bond fans will enjoy the way elements are brought in from early Bond films, especially the appearance of a well-known car synonymous with classic James Bond : The Aston Martin. Also making a return is the dangerous yet flirtatious relationship Bond has with fellow MI6 co-worker Miss Moneypenny (played by Naomie Harris). In the pivotal role as M, Judi Dench does more in Skyfall than ever before in a Bond movie, and endows the movie with a lifetime of experience, sincerity and authority. Bond also gets his scariest adversary ever: a man not bent on world domination, but a man with a vendetta against the very organisation the entire story is anchored on, MI6. (And he sure has good reason to.)

Javier Bardem as the villain Silva exuded a peculiar kind of menace: a cheery perviness and demented nature that reminded me of the brilliance of the late Heath Ledger in “The Dark Knight Rises”. Yes, he was THAT good. Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was a contender for a few awards based off of this performance.

ghafla james bond skyfall 7

Javier Bardem as the maniacal Raoul Silva

By the start of the movie, Bond is already missing. In comes the famous title sequence during which the Bond song is always played in its entirety, with an always exciting picture collage containing key elements to the movie. The haunting delivery of Skyfall by Adele transports you back to the classic era of Bond songs such as “Diamonds are Forever” and “Goldfinger”. Skyfall is without a doubt the BEST Bond song of the Daniel Craig era.

ghafla james bond skyfall

Needless to say, (with the miraculous relaxation and recuperation powers of Heineken too) Bond is soon back the helm of MI6 track down Silva, who — in classic Bond villain style — has endless funds, a limitless supply henchmen (as usual very beefy men with surprisingly poor marksmanship and apparently no hostile situation training), and a dangerously beautiful woman in tow.

Subtly plugged in Heineken is guaranteed to

leave you craving a crisp cold one too!

One of the best aspects of this movie is that the audience is finally revealed to more of Bond’s back story than ever before. Who he was before he had a license to kill. The one set back though, is because of this, there are more acting scenes than we’re used to in Bond films. This means less action packed scenes and the movie does seem to drag on a little long. However the quality of the cast with their unexpected humour makes up for it. The gravity of things revealed to us makes this film extremely genuine and not entirely about superficial action sequences: Bond’s traumatised childhood is explored, his relationship with ‘M’ and how she’s become the mother he never had, his pressures in the work place, his struggle as a defiantly virile Bond well past his early youth, and not the honed athlete he used to be.

But the biggest reason Skyfall excels is that it builds on our familiarity with much more relevance to world politics in the 21st century. Bond finally enters the age of cyber-terrorism. 007 has been regenerated in a way we can relate to. The central idea is to expose the heart of our intelligence agencies. In the age of WikiLeaks, ICC trials and public accountability it is the most real of concepts: do we want true transparency or are we okay with admitting transparency can be sacrificed for some things deeper than that?

ghafla james bond skyfall 4

Without giving too much away… All I can say is I don’t see how anyone can deny that this really may be the best Bond story ever. And with the cast, it really was a story very well told.

Make sure you catch the new James Bond movie, in cinemas NOW. Here is the trailer below.

Attitude is Back. Check Out His Brand New Track

Attitude broke into the music scene in the mid-2000s and painted the industry with the highly infectious crunk sound that was the biggest thing back then.

His collaborations with Chiwawa, Abbas and Mery Myra made him one of the biggest hip hop artistes from that era of music. Just as suddenly as he appeared, so he disappeared from the scene right after his marriage to singer, Mercy Myra.

The rapper recently announced that he is hitting the studio and coming up with new material. And so we waited for the great return of Attitude. He didn’t take long to release something new. His new track, Green Light, shows that the rapper has moved with the times and took an about-turn on crunk and gone hadrcore. Check out his new sound below.

Check Out Butali & Lyraoko’s Beautiful, Romantic Track

Ni wewe ninawaza usiku na mchana/Ni wewe nitasema kwa baba na mama/Ni wewe utanipa msichana mvulana/Ni wewe.”

That is the chorus from Lyraoko’s new track with singer, Butali. The song is a beautiful ballad with the two performers trading verses proclaiming the affection they share. The beautiful piano chords add to the song’s romantic feel.

The song sounds heartfelt and is just waiting to take over the charts. Lyraoko is increasingly making some of the best music there is out to sample out there. Butali is definitely a star in the making and this might just be the start of something big out of him. Listen to Ni Wewe below.

How Size 8’s Childhood Self-esteem Issues Led Her to Music

In an interview with Protel Studios’ 99 Degrees, Size 8 made an interesting revelation. Apparently, she has had image issues and was apparently teased for her size. That’s weird because the singer is known for her bold and provocative stage performances.

“I started off in 2009 in August, I released Size 8 as my first single. When I was in primary school, people used to call me Skele Mabony. I was the thinnest in school and had the biggest head so I had self-esteem problems. People don’t believe it when I’m on stage performing but, yeah, I had serious self-esteem problems.”

She further talks about how she used the experience to make a song. “When I went to high school, there’s another chick called Sophie, she was a first former like me. She was so huge, I think she was a size 16 or 18. When she entered the dining hall the first day, all the fourth formers laughed at her. She never went to the dining hall again until those fourth formers left.”

She adds, “So, I’ve just seen women going through image issues, size issues, you want to be a size something, sometimes it’s impossible. I can’t add weight. I can never, so I have to accept myself with the way I am. My sister even had problems with her husband after the weight gain after she had a baby. So, I sat down and asked myself why do we allow ourselves as women to go through such things?”

And then how she made a song out of it, “So, I said, why can’t I write a song that empowers us women? A song that tells us haijalishi, it doesn’t matter. Haijalishi kama unafikiri mi ni wa udu. It doesn’t matter if you think I’m not good enough whether niwe na hips, ninone nikose nikonde. So, that song was for me.”

Former TV Presenter Responds to Ghafla’s Article

Earlier today, I did an article about a former TV presenter cross-dressing and so many people who commented on the story totally blew things out of proportion. So, I state here categorically that the story was purely done for entertainment purposes and that no malice was intended whatsoever.

This is not the first time Ghafla! has done such a piece since we have in the past done stories and/or photo galleries of celebs. Today’s article in particular, did not in any way cross any boundary so there is no way the article could be defamatory to Patrique Viyerrah.

He did indeed dress as a woman purely for Halloween which he clearly affirms in his FB post below;

“I have reached a point in life where i feel it is no longer necessary to try and impress anyone. If they like me the I am, good, and if they don’t well it’s their loss… I loved the dress up thing at Scanad Africa, it was the best day in the agency and heck, I LOVED IT…see pictures for more details.”

So all you cheapjacks out there trying to spark controversy where none exists kindly find something better to do.

MOG to Headline Teetotaler Event

Friday is probably the worst day of the week to look for ‘good, clean fun’. With everyone looking for the best club to go and act inappropriately at, teetotalers have few choices on Friday for gigs.

The Lounge brings you an event where you can go and get entertained in an alcohol-free environment. This week they bring you popular gospel group, MOG. The trio is currently enjoying the popularity of their recent hits, Mwambie and Money Money.

The Ultimate Hangout Zone is hosted by DJ Soxxy and DJ Sanch. The event takes place at Petma Restaurant on Kimathi Street, opposite KFC. Entry to the show is Kshs. 200.

6:45 p.m. – Corder Band
7:05 p.m. – The Nini
7:25 p.m. – Le Tortue
7:45 p.m. – Njeri Kahare Project

The battle will be followed by a set by DJ Protege who will break for the prize-giving ceremony by the judges and sponsor before he continues till late into the night.

Katenga Promises Another First

Fresh from dropping a new video barely two weeks ago, the Katenga family is obviously not about to sit pretty. As such, Cartel, the Katenga president is set to do an off the hook collabo with afro-fusion artiste Makadem.

The song is currently being recorded at the Katenga studios and the video is set to shot in a weeks-time. This only goes to show that Cartel is trying to leave a significant mark in the music scene by reaching out to afro fusion fans with his Katenga style.

Makadem, also known as the Ohanglaman, is of one Kenya’s most talented performing artist whose command on stage, charisma and powerful vocal delivery, spiced with satire has earned him the title Kenya’s Fela Kuti.

Be sure to catch the song exclusively on Ghafla! when it debuts.

Jalang’o Given a House for Starring in a TV Commercial

Jalang’o came from nothing. Doing small-budget vernacular films, getting on theatre and finally TV. He is now the most sought after MC in the country.

Not only that, but the comedian now seems to be the go-to guy for TV adverts meant to connect with the wananchi. The venture has obviously made him a lot of cash but it has also gotten some property out of it.

One of his recent ads is one he did for the Kisaju Villas, where, as usual, he appeared with his Papa Shirandula castmates. The comedian exclusively revealed to Ghafla! that he wasn’t paid in cash for the commercial.

He was asked whether he wanted to be paid back with one of the Kitengela-located estate. Jalang’o agreed and he is now the proud owner of a four-bedroom house at Kisaju Villas.

On being asked whether he lives there, “I don’t live there yet but I will have it as my other house.” He also clarified that he is not planning on selling it.

Willy M. Tuva’s Mseto Tour Makes a Comeback

The Mseto Tour makes a comeback this weekend as it heads to Watamu. Dubbed the Mseto Furahi Day Tour, it will take place on the 26th of October at Club Comeback.

The MC and event host will be none other than the Mambo Mseto presenter on TV and radio, Mzazi Willy M. Tuva. Artistes to perform include Dogo Richie, Sudi Boy, Ali B, Rojoh Moh and Calvo Mistari.

The event DJ will be DJ Flash who will ensure the coastal crowd is on their feet all night long.

Pulse Cartoonist Gets Ghafla Trending! #GhaflaGossips

Pulse cartoonist Kenny Kaburu has single handedly managed to get Ghafla trending on twitter in what appears to be an epic fail at trolling.

The lad had an axe to grind with Ghafla but things seem to have blown up in his face as Ghafla fans have taken to trolling the harsh-tag and coming up with some pretty funny stuff! For instance, one tweep said:

dandora dumpsite to be relocated.”

kalonzo musyoka finally makes a firm decision.”

mike sonko seen wearing a graduation gown”

“SHOCK as woman gives birth after 9 months!

<this would be the lad whose attempts at trolling were a resounding success>

Image from his Twitter account.

Follow that harsh-tag to join in the fun! Sad though when all the vitriol this lad has for Ghafla turned into harmless jest.

You most definitely remember him from the famous Gospel Show, Cross Over on NTV just when it had started. Well, Patrique Viyerrah left the show and is now at Scanad. So it happened that Scanad staff decided to dress in school uniforms in the spirit of Halloween. And Viyerrah wasn’t left behind. For him, he decided to cross-dress as a high school girl. Jaguar Running For Makadara MP?

According to the Pulse, a political party methinks is TNA has offered Jaguar it’s ticket on which it wants him to run for Makadara MP.

And why do i think it’s TNA? Well, it’s a calculated guess. Jaguar is pretty tight with the sitting MP Mike “Sonko” Mbuvi who has his eyes set on the Governorship of Nairobi and thus will be vacating the MP seat.

JAGUAR.jpg

Whom better to bequeath his seat to other than his already popular friend Jaguar? Atleast that’s what i presume Sonko’s thinking. Well that and which eye-rap*ng jewerlery to assault our eyes with today.

JAGUAR_AND_SONKO.jpg
When Pulse contacted Jaguar for a response, he apparently said that he didn’t feel the time was right but he left the future open ended just in-case he gets bitten by the political bug.
I recently did a piece on Kenya 15 most influential celebrities and it seems Jaguar just climbed higher up on that list! You can read that piece here.

This Is What You Should Be Listening To Now For Motivation

So many times do we find ourselves in tight spots and almost want to give up because things are not working out for us. Anyhow, those are the dynamics of life. However, gospel singer Hey-Z is one guy who is here to give you the push to move on.

Recently, he churned a masterpiece called “Bado Nasonga” featuring Danny (one of the finalists from Exodus 2 Stardom contest on KBC). The song urges everyone to move forward in life no matter the obstacles and opposition face. Complete with a Bongo feel and laid back dance moves, the single is an instant darling.

The song is also a personal testimony by Hey-Z considering so many people were questioning whether he had quit music. His answer to them; #badonasonga. Enjoy the video below;

More Details of Jua Cali and Esther Passaris’ Daughter Emerge

Early this week Ghafla exclusively told you about Jua Cali doing it big with Esther Passaris’ daughter. Theirs is the tale of rich girl, poor boy. The acclaimed genge rapper and Esther Passaris’ daughter, Makenna are doing currently recording a track that follows the same storyline.

Dubbed “Hawajui”, the track is done in Swahili and is inspired by the many stories you’ve heard of rich girls who fall for poverty-stricken stricken guys. “Hawajui” is slated for release sometime in December according to Makenna’s spokesperson. Makenna is just few days old in the country and is already causing ripples in the music industry. So far, she has done a series of interviews with leading radio stations and a magazine in Nairobi all in a bid to promote her music.

16 year old Makenna already has five tracks under her name and is not stopping there. Check out her tracks HERE.

I feel nothing!!! Ian Mbugua Tells His Critics

On Wednesday we told you why actor, director and renowned TPF judge Ian Mbugua did not favour a Uhuru/Ruto presidency. Apparently, this did not go down well with some people and they resorted to go all out on Ian. Obviously the comments were not so polite and Ian being who he is did not take it lying down, he has returned fire!!!

“Just like any one else, I have an opinion with regards to political issues in the country and I will make it known using whatever medium is available to me. All those who disagree with me and resort to the moronic behaviour of insulting me are wasting their time. I feel nothing. 🙂 I will express myself on MY wall. Deal with it.” posted the unapologetic Ian.

He even went to the point of “driving some sense” into the heads of his critics, “Let us learn the art of debating when ‘defending’ our chosen candidates. Let us find out all we can about them and their work so as to counter attacks on them with FACTS. Let us not hurl insults at those who oppose us. It helps nobody and just lowers our dignity (it is also rather barbaric and inane). There is no way we will all support the same person, but we are still all Kenyans. Natukae na udugu (yes, I still insist on original word used) amani na uhuru.”

I guess the decriers found their perfect match here.

Another Stunning Kenyan Film!

I’ve heard alot about Kenyans not being good at making movies, music, television series and what not. And time and again i have countered with my evidence.

When music is called to question by my cousins who profer Omawumi, i mention Suzanna Owiyo. They mention Nollywood, I counter with Nairobi Half Life. But now that list is growing. There’s a movie i stumbled upon called Kenji. I stumbled upon it at the Kenya Film Festival being held at StarFix (who btw are doing a good job of promoting local content).

Basically, Kenji is an eperimental art-house film that employs poetry, silence and narration as stylistic devices to tell the story of it’s two main characters, Kenji and his wife Ringos.
The thing that hits you right off the bat is the quality of the videography. The scenes are seamless. And if you enjoyed the international critically acclaimed Paul Thomas Anderson directed epic picture “There Will Be Blood”. The film is artistic so if you like big explosions and nudity, keep fapping to your stash and give this one a pass. But if you are a true movie buff, this one is a must see!

The film “Renji” is directed by Robin Njenga and according to sources was done on a budget of not more than 10,000/- which in itself is just impressive -this leaves me wondering what he’d do given a proper budget. Robin, a student of film is clearly a gifted director.

Check the teaser trailer and let’s know what you think of it. And make a point to pass by StarFlix to catch this and support a truly gifted Kenyan director:

Nigerian Artist Admits That He Would Like To Have Sex With Tina Kaggia

9con (pictured above) was today on yet another crazy episode of Bamzigi’s evening radio show, “Fired Up.” They talked about all kinds of sexual things, like whether he goes down on women, and what his favorite position is. As insane as that all sounds, Bamzigi saved the best question for last.

He asked 9con which person in the One FM team he would like to have sex with the most. At first he was coy about it, deflecting the question by saying, “Why are you putting me on the spot? I like all of them. It’s like asking me to choose between a Blackberry 8210 and a Blackberry bold.” Eventually when he finally came around, he admitted that he would most like to bang:

Tina Kaggia

His reasons?

“She’s crazy like me. I like Adelle but she is innocent like an angel. Tina though, is a special kind of angel.”

When asked whether he was in a relationship, 9con said that no, he doesn’t have a girlfriend.

Now tune in to Tina Kaggia’s 1Active show tomorrow morning, where we will DEFINITELY be discussing this topic!

Bamzigi Has Started Drinking During His Radio Show

So I was working late today on a revamp of the Ghafla! site design(which is going to be awesome by the way) and listening to 1FM on the radio in the background, when I heard something that shocked my system to the core:

Bamzigi was presenting his evening show ‘Fired Up’ doing a segment called “Make You Famous.” He was interviewing Nigerian artist 9con and admiring his abs, but that’s actually not the awkward part. The awkward part was that Bamzigi shortly mentioned LIVE on air that he was guzzling down a bottle of Famous Grouse whisky during the show!

I don’t know about you, but I’ve never heard of a radio show host(or anyone for that matter) drinking on the job. However, Bamzigi has been known to push the envelope with the content of his show. On the same show I mentioned above, he discussed with 9con about sexual positions that benefit the body more than working out!

However, even despite knowing that, the fact that he said he was drinking caught me off guard, and I decided to bring it over to the Ghafla! audience to air what they think of this bold move by Bamzigi. Has he gone too far, or is he pushing the limits in the right direction?

Akon Has Arrived! Confirmation That The Concert Is Indeed Going Down!

Ladies and gentlemen, it is my pleasure to announce that Akon has finally arrived in Kenya for his long overdue concert!

Akon whose real names are Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam arrived in the country today at 7pm aboard an Emirates flight from Dubai.

On hand to receive him was Buddha Blaze and a host of Kenyan fans who have previously had their hearts broken by crushing disappointment when he failed to turn up the last two times.

I for one am pleased to say that this seems to prove the adage that third time’s the charm.

Here is photographic evidence that the “Lonely” crooner is in the country:

Calif Records Legend Welcomes His First Child

In the past month, Kenyan celebs have been eager to join parenthood like it’s going out of fashion. First we had Lorna Irungu who we spotted pregnant outside Mater Hospital. Then we had Talia Oyando, who today presented her new arrival to the world.

Now Calif records legend Mahatma of ‘Pande Zote Mbili‘ and ‘Kadhaa Remix‘ fame has a baby as well. Today we got an exclusive first picture of Mahatma’s baby, which can be found above this article. Congratulations Mahatma on your first child, and all the best to you and your family.

You may also drop your congratulatory messages in the comment section below if you wish.

Guess Who Just A Band Want To Collabo With Immediately?

Today on One FM’s 1Drive with Adelle Onyango, she brought in the ‘experimental’ group from Kenya: Just A Band. One of the hottest questions Adelle asked was, “who would you guys like to collabo with?” And one guy from the JAB crew just said:

“LA LA LA LA.”

That’s a line from upcoming band Large Gang’s latest song. Adelle sought to clarify, asking whether the Just A Band guys meant Large Gang, and the reply was, “Yes, I like their sound.”

The sound JAB were talking about is the 8-bit sound, which is taking over the internet right now. Basically it’s where a producer makes a song where the beats sound like the sound effects from an old gaming console, like a Gameboy or a SEGA MEGA.

Just A Band have made a song before with the 8-bit sound called ‘Dut Dut,’ and Large Gang have been maximising on this sound of late as well. Check out the trailer for their upcoming video below and leave a comment:

Kenya’s Top 15 Most Bankable Celebrities! (These Guys Are Like Gold To Corporates)

For weeks now we have given you empirical proof as to why you will never go wrong advertising through Ghafla!Kenya. And at one of our recent ad hoc office brainstorming session, i came up with an idea: who are the most bankable celebrity personalities?

Here i mean the celebs who are marketing gold! They have influence over their fans as much as Ghafla does. And i came up with a list. Have a read and tell us what you think:

BONOKO-DEH.jpg
#15. Bonoko
Laugh if you will but if you want to get to Nairobi’s urban grassroot populace, you have to get Bonoko-deh on your team. This radio personality has a story that reads like a fairy tale -he wrote the book on “from ashy to classy” and anyone would be enthralled by it. From street urchin to radio personality. From mutura guy to online celebrity to affecting the rate at which sheng evolves!

Caroline_Mutoko.jpg
#14. Caroline Mutoko
Love her or hate her, she is very good at getting her demograph to go out and buy, buy, buy! She mainly appeals to middle class women trying to get a taste of that champagne lifestyle and that is gold for anyone trying to get single women aged between 30-45 to go out and spend.

CAMP_MULLA_3.jpg
#13. Camp Mulla
These guys have all the youngins trying to dress, walk, talk and sag like them. They have a lock on the difficult segment of teenagers to those aged 24. This segment is fickle and hard to impress but they have 100% disposable income whether or not that just amounts to 100 or 1,000/- shillings.

Eko-Dydda.jpg
#12. Ekko Dydda
If you want to appeal to the Christian segment, Ekko Dydda is your man! Think about it, his brand has something very hard to come-by: integrity. And trust me when i say that not alot of celebrities have integrity! People trust what he says because he speaks his truth.

JAGUAR_AND_SONKO.jpg
#11. Jaguar
Jaguar has released two tracks that have cemented him a the people’s favourite. Even Sonko jumped into his band-wagon. This guy has everyone seeing him for what he is; a good guy and no-one can argue about that! Safaricom even had to get him on-board Safaricom Live to appeal to a wider audience!

 DADDY_OWEN.jpg

#10. Daddy Owen
All he had to do to leave Kisima reeling was to announce that he’d be pulling out of this year’s ceremony. Airtel had to hassle to get him as their brand ambassador and all for a good reason, his appeal cuts across every demograph and economic segment.

MBUSII.jpg
#9. Mbusi
Mbusi-deh’s influence on inner-city youth is unparalleled! He asks them to jump and they ask “how high?” because their trust in him is unwavering. This is the lad Raptcha tried to attack (or was his account hacked) and Mbusii said nary a word but Raptcha was so inundated with replies that he had to “clarify” the matter -Uncle Chim Tuna has spoken!
This lad came up with phrases such as “kung’uta miwa kung’u kung’u”, “safara”, “toto si tortoise” (i have no idea whetin i dey write!). When he started out, he was a mere tea-boy but he placed Ghetto Radio in the fore when it comes to his time scheduling. And so he brilliant is he that he gave Bonoko-deh his footing on his show and that partnership has struck gold!

MZAZI.jpg
#8. Willy M. Tuva
This chap has the most listened to radio show. Period! and his appeal has people from Lokichoggio calling in! The only reason why he drops so low on this list is that his segment while both diverse and unbelievably huge, isn’t a marketing execs ideal.
But trust me when i say that when he asked people to jump, they do so with out a moment’s thought! He managed to crash Ghafla!Kenya when he merely mentioned us! The traffic was like nothing we had ever seen!

#7. Papa Shirandula
Who? The chap who played an African king in a coke ad. he is so talented that any role he does, he nails. and his influence is immense and the fact that he has the reputation of being a like-able chap only boosts it. Why do you think AFC Leopards sports officials are always clamouring to be photographed by him and so are Luhya MPs?

#6. Jalang’o
From what i hear, his “Yogho Yogho” skit for some Yogurt brand has now become the name used to refer to a certain part of the female anatomy. Nuff sed! This chap is hogging all the ads and with good reason! He is just that influential.

PREZZO_BACK_HOME.jpg
#5. Prezzo
The King of Bling is so influential that he got Kenyans riding on a wave of patriotism. something not even the president himself has been able to do! He overturned negative sentiment and turned it into an unstoppable positive wave that had politicians bending over backwards to be associated with him. Ask yourself, where are the other BBA Star Game contestants, especially the traitorous one!

#4. Julie Gichuru
Her segment is mainly maternal and she can sell anything. Trust me on this! She has a segment on Citizen called “Who Owns Kenya” and what she exposes is both helpful and informative but i do believe her father-in-law was mentioned in a corruption scandal… Yet none of you ever noticed long enough to question that fact. Influential!

maina_Kageni_.jpg
#3. Maina Kageni
This lad’s influence is mercurial. He got old foggies to cough up 10,000/- proper sidi to see James Ingram! A legend, true but even Ingram himself had to be reminded some of his own songs! This guy has every matatu driver tuning in to listen to his show. And it’s not just about controversy, if it were, the beautiful, voluptuous Ciku would be able to mirror the results with her controversial show “Busted”.

JULIANI-BLACK-AND-WHITE1.jpg
#2. Juliani
This guy is the golden standard. When Pulse attacked him, they met with a barrage of counters even though he himself didn’t dain to validate the rooobbish spewed with a response. He didn’t even have to lift a finger to defend his beautiful valkaryie Brenda Wairimu. We took care of that for him! And his appeal cuts across all the socio-economic classes. I watched him perform at Blankets and everyone sang his tracks word for word. A feat only rivalled by Liquideep and Just A Band (by that upper echelon crowd).

churchilllive.jpg
#1. Churchil a.k.a Mwalimu King’ang’i
This man right here! This man right here! His record speaks for itself ergo i do not dain it fit to go into details!
