Malonza will be the host of the new and upcoming show, ‘Ideaz Nazo’

Yes indeed! Things are looking up for ex Big Brother Africa representative for Kenya, Malonza. After making a special appearance on the new comedy show, Comedy Club, Malonza is just getting started on TV.

The new upcoming talent search show, ‘Ideaz Nazo’, which has just concluded their auditions and launch, will be going on air soon, on one of the local TV stations.

Malonza will be hosting this new and epic TV show, that will be on the search of the next biggest film producer. Basically, it’s all about giving the youth a chance to put their TV ideas on the table and possibly get the chance to turn it into a real TV show.

I can’t wait to see what Malonza has in store for us in this new show.

How About Local Comedy on Your Mobile Phone?

Kenya’s comedy industry has received a great boost from the first African mobile devices brand, Mi-Fone that has taken into sponsoring comedians by way of promoting their works through endorsements.

Renowned stand-up comedian Nathan Muya aka JB Masanduku is among other Kenyan comedians whose talent has received publicity endorsement from the mobile phone devices company.

The company is sponsoring a series of comedy sessions dubbed Mi Comedy that seeks to nurture and promote upcoming local comedians, thereby popularizing Kenya’s talent across the continent. In addition, Chipukeezythe company loads the comedy clips on all Mi-Fone handsets therefore promoting Kenya’s vibrant comics.

Other local comedians who have been showcased on Mi Comedy are Chipukeezy and Dr. King’ori. Speaking on this venture, JB expressed excitement over the deal, terming it as an innovative idea, which makes it more convenient for people to access Kenyan comedy across Africa. “When Mi-Fone told me that my comedy would be loaded for free on the Mi-Fone handsets, I felt honored that they appreciate the work that we do,” said JB.

JB felt that the move by Mi-Fone to load it up on mobile phones makes comedy accessible to people who may not be able to attend his shows. “Loading it up on the phone makes people who can’t see me on TV or attend my shows have a taste of my comedy at the palm of their hands,” he added.

Photo Gallery: The new talent search show, ‘Ideaz Nazo’ launch

It is the latest talent search show that has hit the streets of Nairobi. This however, is not the usual talents search shows that we are used to here in Kenya. No! This is the first of its kind here.

The ‘Ideaz Nazo’ talent show, which will also be a TV show aired in one of the leading Kenyan TV stations and, is all about the youths that are full of TV ideas, but are not equipped to make them happen. This might give birth to new creative and very much interesting programmes, all from our very own youths.

‘Ideaz Nazo’ was initiated by the Zinduka Interactive and Spielworks Media and was launched recently and here are some of the people behind it.

Stella Mwangi Is Not a Sufferer, Check out Her High-Class Neighbourhood (Photo)

For any high-flying musician/ celeb image is everything. From your mode of dressing to the guys you hang out with; to your hood they must complement your “star status.” And one Norwegian based Kenyan born singer Stella Mwangi AKA STL is keen on that.

STL crib

A look at this photo just reveals that this is without a doubt an up-market neighbourhood and if we had a Kenyan version of MTV Cribs, then definitely STL’s crib would be among those featured. Though her digs is not visible in this image, your guess is as good as mine; it’s not something so different from this one.

Well, Y.O.L.O. if you have it, flaunt it.

Akon’s entourage arrives in Kenya (video)

Akon’s entourage and his production team arrived in Nairobi last night, ahead of the much anticipated concert which will be held in Carnivore on the 27th and 28th of October 2012.

Just like every other international artiste who arrives in the country ahead of his/her concert, these guys made quite an entry, as everyone stood to watch and admire.

Ghafla!, as usual, got the exclusive footage of their arrival and movements there after, courtesy of Phix TV (produced by Kevin Kenama alongside Phiny, and directed by Andrew Macharia).

Pic of the day: Malonza goes for the kill

First, he was all over Junia from Namibia, or should I say, Junia was all over him. Oh, that was after he had a fling with Uganda’s Jannette shortly after getting into the Big Brother Africa Downville house.

Now, with this photo that we have just acquired, it is safe to say that the best girl won. Even though it may not be a relationship just yet, we can all tell where this is headed and by the look of things right here, Jannette is not playing at all. Infact, she is the one going in for the kill.

Woah! Next viral video: Donald Trump demanding papers from Barack Obama

He is rich, bold, and definitely got balls of steel. The kind of balls that would make him stand up against the most powerful and influential man in the world, and make demands of him, and even include a deadline.

That’s right. Donald Trump just demanded US President Barack Obama to hand over his college records and certification, Passport applications and records, to the American people, enabling him (the president) to be transparent like every other state president. To enable the American people to know more about their president. To eradicate doubt and questions from the American people.

If, and only if Donald Trump is satisfied with the submitted records, he will donate $5 Million to a charity/s of Barack Obama’s choice. If Obama should come through and submit to these demands, the cheque will immediately be signed and sent withing one hour after submission of the documents.

There is one condition to all this though. The US President has to submit these documents before the 31st of October 2012, 5PM.

This has just gotten serious. I really can’t wait to see if the president will actually come through. The stakes are fare. Now let’s just wait and see.

Uganda’s Jannette hooks up with Malonza in Kenya (photos)

Even the blind saw this coming. This Jannette must be one really smart lady. As Junia was all over Malonza back in the Big Brother Africa Downville house, and over to the Upville House, deep down Jannette must have been laughing uncontrollably at the fact that she will have all the time in the world with Malonza, right after they are done with BBA, and Junia flown back to Namibia.

Now, what do we have here? Earlier on Jannette had made it public that she would be visiting Malonza in Kenya and right now, as you are reading this, she and Malonza are spending some good times together as this photo clearly states

I have missed the crazies that this pretty girl brought us in the Big Brother House.

It’s not yet clear on how long Jannette plans on staying in Kenya, but we say, take your time Jannette. Take your time.

Alex, Malonza, Jannette and friend.

Photo Gallery: Mr & Miss CUEA Beauty Pageant at Carnivore last Saturday

Beautiful and sexy ladies everywhere, epic performances from artistes and comedians, and ofcourse, the fresh models that gave light to the night. Everything about this elegant show was on point, especially the newly crowned Miss CUEA, Winnie Opiyo.

Check out how the event went down in photos courtesy of Orange Kenya.

Only beauty may grace this majestic runway…

and so they did.

Former Mr & Miss CUEA

Janet Mbugua was among the judges

Then came a little bit of dancing

And just a little bit more

Then came the beauties…

a little bit of the beasts…

then some more beauties.

I’m not too sure what went down here…

but Octopizzo brought back the ‘gangsta’ on stage

Mejja too, was in the house

Feels good to feel ‘on top’ and all, but eventually…

there can only be one Queen and King

and so they were crowned.

Legendary Lingala Musician Pleads to Kenyans In A New Song

In anticipation of next year’s General Elections,  legendary Lingala musician and one of the most revered artistes in the region Samba Mapangala has released a new song for the upcoming polls.

Dubbed “Chagua Chagua” the song encourages people to choose their leaders wisely and vote in peace. Mapangala reminds Kenyans that a peaceful country will succeed economically in the future to the benefit of all, and can set an example for other African nations to follow.

Though originally composed with Kenya in mind, “Chagua Chagua” eventually has universal implications for all nations facing the challenge of democratic elections. Check out the video below uniquely created by cartoonist Maddo (Paul Kelemba).

Size 8 Cautions against Dating Your Ex

There has been so much debate on whether one should back to their exes when the relationship goes sour. Well, this morning, singer Size 8 has added her voice to the contentious debate. According to Size 8, it’s out rightly wrong to go back to your ex after the break-up.

“Leaving someone is a decision, not feeling”, declared Size 8. Responding to a guy who had written in seeking advice on how he can get over his ex and whether he should go back to him, Size 8 strongly adviced against that arguing that the reason that made them break-up hasn’t changed.

“Mkipatana ikue tu ‘hi hi’” appended the Vidonge hit-maker, “Don’t go into so much stories coz mtaend up pamoja tena.” Speaking on 1Breakfast hosted by Nonini, Size 8 also cautioned guys to avoid compromising situations. “Na msijipate kwa room just the two you.”

Kenyan Actors to Finally Form a Union

Kenyan actors will meet on the 26th of October at the Kenya National Theatre from 9:00 a.m. in a move that will see the thespians come together to actualize the Kenya Actors Guild (KAG).

Every Kenyan actor is being requested to attend this meeting where the agenda of the day will be:

Introduce the Guild to actors (answer the questions of “What” and “Why”).
– Go through the guild constitution (facilitated by a lawyer- which you can download here)
– Recruitment of members to the Guild and its process.
– Chart the way forward for the guild and its members.

This will be followed by speeches from Kenya Film Commission Rep, Kenya Film and Television Producers Association representatives and a Q & A.

KAG was registered under the Societies Act to look into Kenyan actors’ welfare in 2008 and the founding members are Chairman Peter King Mwania, Secretary Lupita Nyong’o and Treasurer Elly Omukubi among others. However due to unavoidable circumstances, the guild never came to really take off.

Gerald Langiri took over from where that was left off when he founded www.actors.co.ke in 2011 and also had the same vision in mind for the acting industry. He says, “Kenya Film Commission has been very helpful towards actualization of the guild and their continued assistance cannot go unmentioned. They have assisted in setting up this 1st workshop and we are still working with them towards branding of the guild in due course.”

You Won’t Believe How Big MPs Entertainment Package Is

I was recently on pesatalk.com and i read a rather interesting piece about how your MPig spends your money… For instance did you know your MPig gets 60,000/- a month to spend on entertainment?

That in itself is an obscene amount given that we pay them whether or not we want to and they keep adding themselves more money. That basically means that all the scandals we read about MPs having parties such as the tragic party that claimed the beautiful and innocent omaricha (she na precious) Mercy Keino’s life are funded by us.

So every month, 222 MPs get 60,000/- per month to party with our daughters and gels and we foot the bill! I don’t know about you but i am appalled! That translates to Kenyans forking out 13,320,000 million shillings to allow these leeches to unwind and gain “much needed” R&R.

The article on pesatalk.com has alot more information that should be enough to irk any responsible Kenyan citizen and drive them to action with their voters card!

Open Mic Now Moves to Nakuru

After holding successful events aimed at giving artists a platform to showcase their talent in Nairobi, the Open Mic will on Thursday (October 25) hold the same event in Nakuru. Dubbed, Jawabu Open Mic, the event will include activities such as spoken word, poetry, live acoustic music, comedy, mimicry and freestyles.

One of the organizers, Allan Malloy said the event is aimed at giving all upcoming artistes a platform and a stage to showcase their talents.  “All we are doing is giving the artists a stage to show the people of Nakuru what they can do,” said Malloy, “we intend to build confidence in them.”

According to Hivi Sasa the MC of the event will be Charlie the poet and the entrance is free of charge upon purchase of any kind of drink.

The Man Behind Spider Man Is Actually Filming In Nairobi

I have a strong and patriotic feeling that this great and renown producer’s presence here has been influenced by the now viral Nairobi Half Life movie success.

Yeah yeah yeah, it might also just be by chance that he is here to shoot some commercials but as the patriotic lad that I am, I just couldn’t resist putting that out there.

Anyway, Sam Raimi, the producer behind some of the biggest and most loved block busters such as Spider Man and some of the best epic series like ‘Legend Of The Seeker’ and ‘Spartacus is in town.

Sources confirm that Sam Raimi is in Nairobi right now and he is shooting some commercials for Guinness. So far, I haven’t seen any Guinness commercials that have disappointed and these that are coming up right here, under this producer, are about to set a whole new level to commercial video standards.

Today, infact right now, Sam Raimi is shooting the first Guinness commercial along Kimathi Street, next to the Norwich Union Building.

Prezzo’s Ex-Girl Turns 28

Yesterday, Kenya’s former representative to the Big Brother House and now ONE Ambassador, Prezzo, girlfriend, Goldie Harvey became a year older. Goldie was born Susan Oluwabimpe Harvey 28 years ago in Ogun State in Nigeria to a family of four.

Overwhelmed by the love from friends and family, Goldie took to her twitter handle, “WOW!!! Its my birthday! Its my birthday!!! Oh my God I thank you! For making me see another year! I thank U for family, for friends, for love!”

We at Ghafla! wish her many happy returns.

Daddy Owen & Eric Omondi Heading to Nakuru for Charity

It seems charity has become the new “cool” for Kenyan celebs. Just recently Jaguar was involved in a show of benevolence in Eldoret and now Kapungala hit maker Daddy Owen and Eric Omondi, one of Kenya’s top stand-up comedians will be headed to for a Nakuru for charity event.

Dubbed Daddy Owen and Friends, the event will be held at Naxvegas Children’s Home in aid of the needy children at the home on Saturday. Confirming this, Nakuru-based Gospel musician SQ said that he will also feature in the event and urged Nakuru residents to come out in large numbers to not only enjoy themselves but also to support the children.

“I urge the Nakuru residents to come in large numbers and make this charitable event a success”, he said. Both Daddy Owen and Eric Omondi are expected to put on a thrilling performance during the event set to start from 10PM till dawn.

Nazizi and Wyre headed back to studio together

Ohhh this is some good news. This is some really awesome news. Nazizi and Wyre going back to the studio to do a collabo after all these years. Oh men, this is epic.

I will assume you understand what all these fuss is about because if not, you are definitely not a ‘mgenge’. This right here, this collaboration, was the birth of Necessary Noise some few years back and the genesis to legendary tracks that are hits till date.

This collaboration right here is what gave hope to the Kenyan music industry. It is one of the reasons that we, fans, stuck around in anticipation for more Kenyan music, alongside groups like Kalamashaka and K-South. These two right here, together and individually, are legends.

Their separation, which came at the time when they were at their peak, was devastating. A punch to the Kenyan music industry’s nuts. But trust in Kenyans to hold on strong and give birth to new and revised artistes, to fill the vacancy left in our musical hearts, desperately longing for the reunion of groups like K-South, Kalamashaka, Black Duo and Necessary Noise.

But no longer. By the look of things, K-South is about to reunite. I have no idea where Black Duo is but Necessary Noise doesn’t look so bad right now. They might just get back together as a group, I don’t know. But one thing I know for sure is that right now, this very moment, Nazizi and Wyre are in the studio, working on a new song. Whether it is Necessary Noise or just a normal collabo, this is a step towards the right direction.

“Okay guys! So Wyre and I are going into studio kesho. What tune would you like to hear from us? I got a good feeling about this one. Big up!”, said Nazizi yesterday.

Bamboo to reveal his new song with Abbas while opening for Akon this weekend

I think it’s pretty obvious that Bamboo and Abbas will eventually get back together, as a music group, as K-South. The chemistry that is very visible and admirable between the two when they are on stage is remarkable. They were meant to be.

Okay… I realise that I have just made this weird, but I know you get what I mean. Since Bamboo came back to Kenya, he and Abbas have been on their grind with their music and have had quite a number of shows together, on the same stage and they have all been epic. Their combined energy is one to be enjoyed.

Bamboo will be opening the show for Akon at Carnivore this weekend and guess what… he will be, for the first time, performing his latest track with Abbas. For those that haven’t had the chance to see these two on stage together, singing along to what has come down as the legend of Kenyan music lyrics, this is your chance.

Their latest collaborative effort will be revealed on stage this Saturday. Hopefully, they will also be announcing their re-union (fingers crossed) as K-South, fresh and revised.

Calif Records Bounces Back with New Artiste & Ala-C Collabo

Calif Records had to deal with the walkout several artistes gave them a couple of months ago and bounce back, continue to do what they have always done best: bringing out new talent. And they have that in Masha: the next product from the Calif School of Talent Development & Management.

Masha was born in Makongeni, the place that still inspires his music and helps him paint a real picture of the hood. He currently lives in Githurai. His new track is called Siku Poa, which is a a New School Genge release.

Siku Poa is an ode to Makongeni. Its about life in the streets, being born and raised in one of the notorious Eastlands estates. He features Ala-C, who is currently riding high on Walking Class. Sample music from the new faces of Calif below.

Top Gospel Artist Ekko Dydda Attacks Pulse For Going In On A-Star!

As if the wave of negative public sentiment towards Pulse wasn’t enough, now a top gospel artist has thrown his lot in with A-Star!

Pulse are really taking a thorough beating in the arena of public opinion and it doesn’t seem to be abating anytime soon. Members of the general public have been railing at Pulse using social media but now a brave gospel artist has come up to add his voice to those condemning Pulse.

In reference to what he views as an attempt to “crucify” A-Star, Ekko Dydda tweeted the following:

“Our rotten-minded media people are trying to kill one of (our) young artistes (because) they saw him in a club.”

“The media is busy killing one of our own local artist when they think he has done wrong; while they gave him a blackout when he has been doing great things to heal this nation.”

And even drawing parallels to the Bible he so loves, Ekko Dydda tweeted the following: “You can’t tell what he was doing, that’s why you need to think positive,’ he added, going on to draw an interesting comparison, Jesus was wrong to religious people when he visited the tax collector.”

Ekko Dydda took issue with the negative reporting that has been going on at Pulse when he pointed out that  there hasn’t seen much coverage of positive initiatives such as‘Ghetto Championship’ which he claims has been in existence since 2010.

Unce Chim Tuna salutes Ekko Dydda and wonders why the rest of the gospel fraternity is too scared to defend their own; rather sitting idly to watch as this happens to A-Star.

Last month was Holy Dave and now A-Star, next time it will be you and there will be no-one left to defend you! Hats of to the brave, uncowed Ekko Dydda for speaking his truth as his Jesus would!

Bamboo and Isis ‘Tribal Dance’ video coming right up

Ever since Bamboo stepped back in the country, he’s been doing big things musically. Hoping from artiste to artiste, collaborating with the best of the best and making only the best of music, this guy has built his legacy that many artistes have been left to envy.

Bamboo not so long ago collaborated with the beautiful and sexy Isis on a hot song titled ‘Tribal Dance’. A club banger it is and as soon as it was released, the many radio stations that we have went mad over it, giving it airplay through out.

Like most hits, the artistes usually wait for the fans to show maximum love for the track, and wait just a little bit longer before launching the video, re-igniting the heat all over again.

According to sources who were part of production of the video, and have already seen it before release, the video is even more exciting and ecstatic than the song itself. Something tells me this is the next trending topic in the Kenyan music industry as soon as it is released, which is sometime this week. I for one just can’t wait and I know neither can you.

Keep it Ghafla! for the exclusive view this week.

Fire under blogger Dennis Itumbi re-ignited

It is the never ending case that has seen investigative blogger Dennis Itumbi in and out of law courts, jail houses and of-course, controversies. CID officers have been working on this ‘hacking’ case for the longest time and Itumbi’s efforts to shut it down are now being fought back.

Dennis Itumbi filed a petition not so long ago at the High Court to stop his prosecution after being charged for allegedly hacking and doctoring e-mail information of the Jetlink Express company, on grounds that it was against his freedom of expression as a journalist.

CID officer, Hannington Chumba, who has proven to be persistent on this case has now come out to oppose Dennis Itumbi’s petition to stop prosecution, claiming that he now has enough evidence to proceed with it.

It starts all over again. Let’s just wait and see how this goes. The case will be heard on the 9th of November 2012.

Alai Calls Rachel Shebesh a Sugar Mummy

Hate him or love him but blogger and twitterati Robert Alai is the guy who comes up with any TT (Trending Topic) whenever he feels like to “correct the ills in the society”. So this morning, the controversial blogger led a host of other KOT (Kenyans on Twitter) in trashing TNA’s Rachel Shebesh.

Alai alleged that Shebesh had chips-fungad some 25 year old dude from Nairobi’s BuruBuru estate and took him down to the Coast where they made merry but Shebesh abandoned the guy there to settle all the bills. “You remember #RachelShebesh took a young 25-year old man from Buru to MSA to have a good time & escaped leaving him with bills?” tweeted Alai. He even went further by asserting that Rachel Shebesh is the only sugar-mummy who does not pay her bills; she leaves Ninjas with bills.

The heated blogger even drew TNA’s leader Uhuru Kenyatta into the “beef” by questioning him whether he was a sugar-daddy since he was hanging out with Rachel Shebesh. As if that was not enough, Alai had the nerve to tweet this; “Being left with a bill after shagging a sugar-mummy ni KuSHEBESHiwa”.

It’s not clear what elicited this sharp reaction from Alai and company but one thing is for sure: Alai has stirred the bee-hive and am sure Rachel Shebesh will not take this lying down. Let’s wait and see if she will indeed come out guns blazing to defend herself.
