INCREDIBLY HILARIOUS! Presenting the new Agwambo Style (video)

Man, you won’t believe the opportunity Psys created for guys who have been rather idle (no offence) just before the Gangnam Style viral song came through.

We’ve seen the various parodies that guys all over the world have created, all with crazy humor ofcourse (otherwise what’s the point) and there reached a time when it became clear that the parodies are getting old.

That did not stop these Kenyan cats to make their own which as it turns out, is really hilarious. Honestly, I expected this to be just another waste of a click but it is actually very funny. I enjoyed every single part of this parody and so will you, as political as it is.

Eric Omondi Forms Party For Skinny People

It’s the season of forming parties and party-hopping and comedian Eric Omondi has not been left behind. Two weeks ago, he formed the Skinny People United Party of Kenya (SPUK) that targets just that; skinny people.

According to Eric the party is duly registered and he even revealed its headquarters. “Most people think Skinny People United is a joke we are registered n we have our headquarters in North Eastern…plz if u are 40kgs n below please register here,” declared Eric. Last week before appearing on NTV’s “The Trend”, Eric called up his fans to watch him present his party’s papers to the Registrar of Parties.

Running under the slogan, “Anakonda”, Eric said the party targets “thin” people like Ghetto Radio’s Mbusii and Gospel rapper Juliani.

Most reggae artistes are humble to the core but Jah Cure, his humility is just something else. Dude walked all over Kibera, sat and chatted with the youths and even ate with them. He later boarded a lexus and drove off.

During his tour of the Kibera slums, Jah Cure was hosted by Kenya’s Krushal Entertainment Crew. Taking him through Kenya’s, scratch that, Africa’s biggest slum, Jah Cure got to witness first hand what very few international artiste have just heard about.

Mwafreeka Raps About His Troubled Childhood in Brand New Track

Mwafreeka has worked as an MC, radio presenter and most recently as a TV show host but we can’t forget he has also been a freestyle and recording music artiste.

The rapper has now released a new single about his troubled childhood: dropping out of school, disappointing his mother and living with an alcoholic father who found his way to jail among other issues.

Stronga is a dedication to his father, Sospeter Ouma Ogada who  ultimately died in 1996. The track features Penya Africa’s Dela, who has featured in tracks with Sauti Sol and Mzungu Kichaa and is working on her sophomore album following her debut, Paukwa. Check out Stronga below.

The latest artist to abandon Calif Records releases new video

What’s up with all the artistes leaving Calif Records? There must be something really messed up in this studio to make all these artistes abandon it a such a shorts spun of time. But as usual, Ghafla will be giving you the whole information about this after hearing both sides.

Meanwhile, the latest artist to leave Calif Records is Si-So and he doesn’t have any regrets judging by what he told Ghafla Kenya.

Infact, he was so eager to leave Calif Records that he recorded his new song, ‘Sema Ng’wee’ in another recording studio while still signed at Calif. This was actually part of the beef that brew between the two parties.

All Calif Records says is that they don’t work with lazy artistes and as soon as these ‘lazy’ artistes discover this, they opt to leave. Now this is all confusing seeing that immediately artistes leave the stable, they continuously release tracks and videos.

As we get to the bottom of this, check out Si-So’s latest video.

Could This Be The Best Song Out So Far This Year? Introducing “Sweetie”

Ladies and gentlemen, what happens when East meets West? When Kenya meets Nigeria? I’ll tell you what happens: musical delectables! A gourmet array of musical delights that you cn’t help but dance to.

Harmony that cannot be refuted! 24 years ago, such a union produced an awesome bouncing little baby boy who you came to know as your uncle. On the 12 of December last year, a melodius, harmony infused track was created by Ma3 and 9con. For those of you who don’t know who 9con is, vacate from the rock you live under and read Ghafla more religiously!

But enough of that inane banter, let’s move to the matter at hand. Ma3 Band has a new face in it’s ranks and she is surely blessed by the gods! Her vocals are simply divine! And then the band was paired (by someone who must have been inspired by the muses) with 9con and magic was created! the song offers such seductive melodies from the lead singer and then 9con joins her to create such harmony! These two are quite the pair honestly! I would personally love to hear more from this pairing.

And the video shot by Enos Olik is also quite the offering! Clarence who? Shove off Clarence Peters, we now have Enos Olik. The video wjile rather reminiscent of Sam and the Womp’s “Bom Bom” but all in all, this is the direction we should head in to gain African recognition for our music: good music and good videos to go with them. If you want someone who can bring your song to life, tap into Enos Olik!

<image courtesy of hot secrets>

The song gets a straight 5 Ghafla rating and it deserves it! Infact, i would give it a straight 6 but i can’t. This song is strong in every aspect. from the video to the video to the mastering to the melodies to the choreography. This video is simply a touch of class and the song is more than that. I want to here such songs on the radio! Play this song on TV! This na quality music!

Another Kenyan Film Joins Nairobi Half Life at International Film Festival

Something Necessary, the follow-up to last year’s Nairobi Half Life, will premiere in Kenya on the 25th of January. But there’s a chance it will have had it’s world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.

The festival runs between 23rd January and 3rd February so Kenya might still get that first viewing. Particular dates have not been announced because films are still being selected. Full line-up is expected a week before the festival begins, on January 17th.

Besides Nairobi Half Life, Something Necessary is the only African film announced so far and it will share world premieres with films from all over the world. The movie chronicles two individuals’ personal journey following the events of the civil unrest after Kenya’s 2007 election.

Wahu Sets Up A State-Of-The-Art Salon Business (Photos)

Singer Wahu Kagwi is the latest celeb to venture into business as a side hustle. She recently set up a fashionable salon at the Ground Floor of Krishna Centre in Westlands.

Set up in December last year, Afro Siri as it’s called, the salon was created from Wahu’s vision to create a place that understands the African man and woman’s hair and beauty needs and provides her clients with care and advice to look and feel their best, no matter what length or texture of hair, or skin tone.

Afro Siri’s first major assignment was providing hair and beauty services for all the singers and dancers during the “Niko Na Safaricom concert” held at the Impala Grounds late last year. Take at Afro Siri’s interior;

Cabu Gah’s Diss Track “Praise The Vod” Gets Ghafla Rated!

Cabu Gah released his diss track against gospel artists and the entire gospel industry in general. And i have to say, this track is tight!

As far as the instrumentals i suspect are sampled, they are awesome. The sound engineering is tiptop ensuring the instrumentals don’t drown out his vocals and the vocals don’t overpower the instrumentals. The lyrics are hard hitting and he doesn’t shy away from naming and shaming artists! He goes in hard at Holy Dave and the drinking allegations levelled by Pulse, M.O.G by referencing a rape case that erupted a few years ago. He attacks Kanji Mbugua… You get the drift.
He utilizes puchlines and his delivery is direct. He pulls no punches and he hits at everyone. Willy Paul doesn’t escape the lyrical jabs. I for one am excited to see him use his beef with virtually everyone to churn out creative material. That’s why i’m giving him the time of day on Ghafla. Because i think this song is awesome. No, it’s not a good attempt, it’s awesome.

But just as Tina KAggia said yesterday, hitting out at gospel artists is like kick boxing with a lame man. It isn’t fair because they are handicapped. They can’t respond given the Christian edict of turning the other cheek. It’s time he turns his sights to worthy game: Octopizzo. Hit at the lyrical genius that is Octo and gauge your lyrical prowess aginst his. A hunter is only great depending on the game he hunts. The Pied Piper is no elephant hunter!

But all in all, i give the song a 4 Ghafla Rating!

Two Days After Rejoining Twitter Huddah Monroe Engages In An Epic Tweef

In what appeared as seemingly innocent jibes at each other, Kenya’s own version of Amber Rose, Huddah Monroe and Gangsta rapper Lyon Cash are currently embroiled in a vicious tweef on Twitter.

Lyon Cash is known to not shy away from controversy as seen recently  when he called out Prezzo via the same social network. Huddah Monroe on the other hand is known to speak her mind and worries about the repurcussions later.

Without further ado;

How it began;

Lyon Cash sends out this innocent tweet: “blond Goliath, i’m this generation king David.
Lyon Cash 1

Huddah notices this and replies: “Ati he’s this generations King David…LOOL! You need to take several firm seats n***a-

Huddah Monroe 1

Lyon Cash becomes agitated he replies: “ i only talk to b***s talking money…i don’t talk to b***s making a living off p***y h**…get the f*** outta my timeline.”

And it’s all downhill from here. Hera are the rest of tweets;

Huddah Monroe catches a feeling: “N***’s tryin so hard, who knows who this guy is? He’s just tryna ride on other peoples fame

Lyon Cash now goes on a rant:

Lyon Cash: “ b***h you think we ain’t straight because we don’t pay h**s like you some mind?!…bitch please, we real n***z. Try me.”

Lyon Cash: ask collo, makenna, tamima if there is no reason i’m beefing them…i promise i’m taking you to h***s rehab in Cancun.

Lyon Cash: i said i don’t argue wit b***s selling p****y…i got money to get out here…i’m out.

Huddah finally replies:

The tweef continues in their respective timelines…

PHOTO: Introducing Eric Omondi’s HOT Sister!

Ladies and gentlemen, after searching high and low for this exclusive photo, i have finally found it.

Although this picture comes with a caveat emptor: she’s still in high school.

But with that said and done, i couldn’t restrain the paparazzi in my colleague Jeff Omondi who is the one who actually got this picture. Ok, the photo isn’t exactly his, he merely facebook stalked the hell out of Eric Omondi till he had it. The photo actually belongs to Laugh Factory.

But enough jibber jabber, i would like to present to you: Erica Jaber Amondi

Kidum Becomes Only Kenyan to Win at KORA Awards 2012

A number of Kenyan artistes were nominated for the KORA Awards 2012. The ceremony took place in Cote D’Ivoire on the 30th of December and not 29th as had earlier been announced.

Kidum was the only winner from Kenya, even though the song that got him nominated, Mulika Mwizi, is credited to his country of birth, Burundi. In the track, he features Sana. He took home the Best Male East Africa award.

The Kenyan citizen by naturalization had to beat out fellow countrymen: Jimmy Gait (Furi Furi with DK), Ali Kiba (Single Boy with Lady Jay Dee), Redsan (Ila Wewe), Chris D (Aisha) and Mulatu Astatke (Ethiopie). Other Kenyan nominees include Marya and Camp Mulla in the Best Female East Africa and Best African Group category.

Ukoo Flani’s MC Kah still going strong. Here’s his latest video

When you talk about the Kenyan hip hop industry and evolution, it’s hard and just plain silly not to have the name MC Kah or Ukoo Flani in context. Forget Kenya, let’s even talk East Africa.

Back then, he was a force to reckon. The type to leave you quite in meditation immediately he drops the mic after a freestyle full of an idealist’s thoughts and ambitions. Deep lyrics, not just the ‘sell music’ type of lyrics.

Some of you might have thought that this guys called it quits on music, but no! MC Kah is still going strong. More lyrical than ever. This guy might just save the Kenyan hip hop scene after all these madness.

True hard hip hop heads, worry no more for here is MC Kah’s latest video for the track ‘Hip hop for life’ off the album ‘Afree-Kah’.

TPF Judge Juliana Beats Marya To Africa’s Top Award

The 12th edition of the KORA Awards was held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast a fortnight ago.

Dubbed the “African Grammy Awards”, the event saw Uganda’s and TPF judge, Juliana Kanyomozi, walk away with the ‘Best Female Artist from Eastern Africa’ accolade. Juliana beat our very Marya, Helen Berhe and Asther Aweke from Ethiopia, Saida Karoli of the Wachekekya fame and Ikraan Caraale from Somalia.

Juliana expressed her gratitude to her fans from the region saying; “Thank you all my loving family for the votes. As most of you know by now, we won the Kora award for best female East Africa. Thank u Kora for the recognition. Thank you Esther Naabasa, Michael Fingers, Steve Jean, Kaweesa and Onoh, I thank God for the opportunity to work with such amazing talent, thank you for sharing it with me on ‘I AM UGANDAN’. My God is an amazing God!!!”

“I am Ugandan” is the song that propelled Juliana to win the KORA award. Juliana worked on the song with TPF2 winner, Esther Nabaasa alongside other four Ugandan musicians.

The Girl Who Got The “You Guy” Video Banned Tells Us Why She Named Her Booty

For those who didn’t know, Citizen TV recently banned the video for P-Unit’s “You Guy” from playing on their station. They cited the reason as being that it was too explicit for their young audience. Upon digging further, we found out from one of the Citizen TV crew that their managers had found the video girls to be too much. In particular, the one who was oiled up and dressed in a bikini, and Vera Sidika, a model who appears in Boneye’s verse:

It now becomes clear to the reader what the Citizen managers were disturbed about. That backside is astonishing! Vera has given us an email interview, explaining a bit about her background. Interesting thing is, she has actually very proud of her size, and her booty. She has even given it a name! Here is the full story:

Vera, aka Vee S. Beiby tries hard not let anyone or anything come her way to jeopardize her career. She has come far in terms of confidence about her own body. A big part of it is her curves, something she wasn’t always so enamored with in the early years.

“I used to say my prayers before bed and pray I would stop developing, because being a model was my dream.” That’s apparently changed. “You always see the typical skinny super models and I’m not that and I’m proud not to be that. I love my body as it is and I’m not skeptical that I’m beautiful.”

Vee S. Beiby represents the curvy African woman and encourages other girls that feel challenged and insecure about themselves that just like her, they can make it in the industry. On her attention grabbing ‘buxom bottom,’ she says:

“My butt is all natural… no implants, just food. I love to eat… and for some reason it all goes to my butt. I don’t exercise, but I dance a lot at home. I am very happy with my body. It got to a point I just had to name my butt, because people always asked if it had a life of its own. Funny, but yes I did name it ROXXIE.”

So there you have it. More to come on Vera, aka Vee S. Beiby later…

Blogger & Investigative Journalist Dennis Itumbi Reveals The Plight of Security Officers in Baragoi

When 42 police officers were massacred in Baragoi, Samburu in October last year, the Government acted swiftly by sending a contingent of security officers to the troubled region to hunt for cattle rustlers who killed security officers in an ambush in Baragoi. However, it now emerges that the officers sent there are a disgruntled lot.

Blogger and investigative journalist Wednesday afternoon blew the whistle on the difficulties encountered by the officers. So, without distorting any information, here’s Itumbi’s message;

There was a Disobedience of lawful orders by the over 400 GSU, AP, Anti Stock Theft Unit and Kenya Police officers stationed in Baragoi when they refused to go to attack Suguta valley. The officers complained their continued stay there has subjected them to unwarranted harm. They have not been paid over two months allowances with each officer expecting to get sh3000 a day. The officers can’t also access their bank accounts since there are no lorries to ferry them to nearest town. The most affected are those married since they can’t pay school fees for their kids or support their families financially. The officers further complained they are being served bad food. The military which was ordered by their commander In Chief to assist the police left the rough terrain leaving the police without the crucial air support needed to attack Suguta valley. The officers said they can’t attack Suguta valley without Air support.

This is how Smirnoff’s ‘The Night’ went down this new year’s eve (video)

Let’s just call it. I don’t think there was a bigger new year’s eve party than the Smirnoff Party (The Night) 2012 that went down a couple of days ago.

The international deejays, the massive, crazy crowd of revellers, everything was just ecstatic and memorable.

If you missed it, here is how the new year’s eve party was. Check out the video below.

Nonini to perform in New Jersey

Nonini is now taking his music to Kenyans abroad. This guy has been around and about, having shows all over the world. You just never know where he’s going to perform next.

Nonini is ready and set to take Genge to the Kenyan massive out in New Jersey. As usual, when Kenyan artistes go to perform their music abroad, it is their old school hits that take over the hearts of the fans since that is precisely what they left hitting the streets years back.

He will be jamming to tracks like ‘Manzi wa nairobi’, ‘we kamu’ and others that brought the house down at their time. Come to think of it, they still do.

The godfather will be live in concert at the Hot Spot Lounge in New Jersey on the 26th of January 2013 alongside deejays Kevo, Clein and D Vice from 9PM, all through the night.

Kenyans in New Jersey, this is your time with Mgenge True.

According to YouTube, Octopizzo’s Swag is His Biggest Video Yet

Octopizzo released a track on the very first day of 2013 to start off the year with a bang. Being the biggest artiste from last year, there is obviously still a lot of interest in the hitmaker.

The new video for his latest single, Swag, crossed 20,000 views on YouTube less than 10 days after its release. It won’t be the fastest watched YouTube video in Kenya but it’s definitely a milestone for the rapper who did not have a single video out eight months ago.

Swag is now Octo’s second biggest video of all time surpassing Toboa’s 15,000 views. At this rate, the video looks set to beat his biggest video yet, Ivo Ivo Ivo, which has taken four months to garner the 68,000 views it has now.

Willy M. Tuva Explains the Birth of His Show on Mambo Mseto’s 7th Anniversary

Award-winning radio presenter Mzazi Willy M. Tuva celebrates an important milestone today. It’s been seven years since he entered the studio to host one of the most acclaimed shows on radio today, Mambo Mseto.

On the special occassion, he explained how he got on air, which was, apparently, not planned:

And on why he created the format the show has used over the years, “Hakukuwa na show ya muziki ya East Afrika, basi nikapata idea ya kuifanya.”

Mambo Mseto has gone on to spawn a television show, Mseto East Africa, which airs from 4:45 every weekday on Citizen TV. Happy birthday, Mambo Mseto. Here’s to many more years supporting the region’s music industries.

Can you believe this is Juliani back in day?

People do change and so does the talent. It only grows greater and finer.

This is Juliani back when he was still in the legendary Ukoo flani hip hop group and had just started gospel rap.

Chilling with other gospel artists, it’s hard to imagine how far this guy has come.

Find Out Why Top Singer Christine Apondi Has Taken Shots At DNA And Grand Pa Family!

The Jan-Worry heat seems to be getting to people! And the latest victim is Christine Apondi!

She seems to have lost her temper with Grand Pa Records and DNA and has taken to Facebook to express her frustration. She basically feels like they are part of the problem with Kenya’s entertainment scene going as far as alluding to their being the main problem. She used their club banger “Fimbo!” as her example of why Nigeria is miles ahead of the pack.

Personally, i feel that this is a simplification of the mighty nation’s (Nigeria’s) success! Nigerians indeed have superior entertainment but it’s not because Kenyans don’t try! We are just more rofessional and miles ahead of the pack interms of quality control!

Anyway, here’s what she said:

Nigerians are busy doing collabos with international artists like Rick ross n David Guetta, kenyans are busy singing nye nye nye…
