Goldie’s Booking Agent Now Denies Her Death. What On Earth Is Going On?

So just a few minutes after Goldie’s death being confirmed via both her official Facebook and Twitter pages, her bookings manager has come out to deny the rumours. Nigerian talent manager Teejay Star, who is also the group creative producer/director at Reel E TV & Radio, took to Twitter to quell the story of Goldie’s death.

Teejay has now tweeted:

“And so some ppl just wanna make a joke and d next tin is death? Amazin naija folks… God help yal” – https://twitter.com/teejaysstar/status/302163777942593537

“My client is well.. Pls disregard d fallacy whereva it emanates from. After hating on a successful person, death seems to b dia next tot. Smh” – https://twitter.com/teejaysstar/status/302165698342436865

 Untitled2.jpg

Now our reputable sources at the Nigerian publication Bella Naija have confirmed to us that she is indeed dead, and both Goldie’s Facebook and Twitter have said that she has passed on as well. Here is photo evidence in case it is deleted:

but all the way from here in Kenya, we can only ask, what is going on people? Let’s be serious about death. Hopefully Goldie’s management will quit the doublespeak and the true story will come out soon enough.

Goldie Harvey is Dead

Prezzo’s beau from the Big Brother house, and fast-rising Nigerian singer Goldie Harvey is dead. Details of her death are still sketchy but media reports say she passed on last night at Reddington Hospital, Victoria Island, Lagos in the arms of her close friend, Denrele.

Goldie had just returned to Nigeria from the U.S where she attended the Grammy Awards with her record label, Kennis Music boss, Kenny Ogungbe. Kenny St. Best, an artiste also under Kennis Music confirmed the news.

She said “It’s true. I still can’t believe it. I’m still in shock.”

Her death is so sad and sudden. Beneath all the glitz of her glamorous career, Goldie is a very sweet and kind lady. She is well spoken and the tone of her messages and emails were always so polite.

Denrele and Goldie were close friends. They were supposed to launch their Reality Show ‘Tru Friendship’ in a couple of weeks.

In the Big Brother house, she fell head over heels in love with Prezzo, to the point of once vomiting when he told her they were just friends. Prezzo eventually warmed up to her and recent rumor had it that they were to get married, which was later denied by Prezzo

WATCH: Juliani’s Voter vs. Vulture is His Best Video Yet

There’s too much going on when it comes to songs about peace coming out this year, and especially now just about two weeks before the election.

Juliani made one that is not really about keeping peace but about politicians. Unlike many artistes, he leaves no space to secure endorsement cash from leaders who might want to use artistes to elevate their campaigns. He calls out every major politician in the race in one of his most lethally anti-political tracks.

Juliani has always been vocal about leadership and citizen’s civic duties, leaving genuine heartfelt messages for his audences from his album launch two years ago and even at Blankets & Wine last year. Check out behind-the-scenes fotage here.

The video couldn’t be more direct. He hooks up with award-winning photojournalist Boniface Mwangi who has been very vocal about leadership, especially in the last year with his Mavulture murals to create a potent synergy between music and activism.

In Voters vs. Vultures, Juliani features the soulful Dela and the video is directed by Babbi, who also shot Kanja’s Ecstacy video back in the States. The cinematographer was Jim Bishop and What’s Good Media Group acted as the producers. The executive producer was Gina Din Corporate Communications and Tilo Ponder. Color grading by Mucchiri Njenga.

Check out the video below and don’t forget, “Tusibleed ndio wa-lead.”

Man Wazimu Releases First Song Off His New Album

Man Wazimu a.k.a Virgin Man has finally released the long awaited first single of his new album, The Way.

After releasing his first album, My Say, he released a number of tracks which we expected would be on his sophomore album but he has clarified this is the first single off it. That means the addictive Nah Text will not be on the album.

Me n’ Me Neighbour was released today with the announcement that the album will come out in the second quarter. And you know when Man Wazimu makes a promise, he keeps it. Me n’ My Neighbour was produced by Timothy Mudogo of Waunde Music. Timothy also produced most of Man Wazimu’s debut album and brings back his magic on the new record.

Check out Me n’ My Neighbour below.

Gloria Muliro Responds To Allegations That She Jacked A Song

So yesterday some guy who likes to refer to himself as Gloria Muliro’s “former fan” poured out his bile on the Gospel artist in a long open letter and even referring to the artist as “a liar and a cheat.”

Well, Gloria has responded. And she has made it clear that she did not steal Chris Tomlin’s lyrics and that the song’s inspiration comes from the Holy Bible. Gloria quotes the book of Ruth (Ruth 1:16-17) where Naomi asks Ruth to follow her sister-in-law and Ruth responds by saying:

“16. Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. 17 Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me”.

Gloria goes further to give the lyrics of her song which are not anywhere close to Chris Tomlin’s save for the verse. Check out;

Verse 1 :
Unaponipeleka
mie si lazima nijue Unachoniwazia mie si lazima
nijue Njia zako hakika Mambo yako sambamba
Mipango yako sawa, sawa Njia zako hakika Mambo
yako sambamba Mipango yako sa.a……wa

Chorus
where you go I’ll go, where you stay I’ll stay, where you move I’ll move I’ll move, I will follow you

Verse two :
hakuna dhiki kwako,hakuna chuki kwako,wala unafiki kwako,baba kwako,ni marafiki kwako,kuna amani kwako,baba kwako,hakuna vita kwako,hakuna magonjwa kwako,wala talaka kwako,baba kwako
kuna upendo tele kwako,furaha kwako,umoja kwako,baba kwako

So basically what Gloria is trying to say is that the Gospel is the same and different musicians may do songs that are inspired by a similar Bible verse and so this should not be a loophole to stir controversy.

NO! Ghafla cannot record music for you. We just won’t/can’t do it, so stop asking

You will not believe half of the retarded enquiries that we receive from callers these days.

Back then when Ghafla!Kenya was getting started, the calls we received were all professional. Shortly after the character Uncle Chim Tuna arrived, we started receiving weird calls with enquiries on how to join the Illuminati. Chimwani handled that very well and the callers are active no more.

As we celebrated our achievement on terminating the ridiculous calls, little did we know we were about to be subjected to a new form of torture: explaining to people who are not willing to understand, that we are not a recording studio but a media house.

This dude today got really pissed off at me as I tried giving him suggestions to some of the best recording studios that we know of. Apparently, Ghafla only chooses its artistes depending on their level of traction.

So, on behalf of Ghafla!Kenya, WE DO NOT RECORD MUSIC, NEITHER DO WE MANAGE ARTISTES. AND NO, WE DON’T HAVE THE SLIGHTEST IDEA OF HOW TO JOIN THE ILLUMINATTI.

Thank you!

Top Kenyan Website Jackal News Hacked!

Top Kenyan gossip site Jackal News was recently hacked. It’s reported that the popular news and gossip platform was attacked and damaged by said hackers.

The Jackal news team is working hard to salvage the situation. The site was started by Bogonko Bosire along with an anon pal. The plan behind it’s launch was to own news and gossip. In an interview with Bizcommunity.com’s Carol Kimutai, Bogonko said that he is something of a revolutionary who wants to liberalise information in Kenya. We at ghafla wish them luck.

But enough about that. We all know the number one source for factual entertainment news aye? Ghafla!Kenya. And don’t forget it.

Update On Lionel Richie Coming To Kenya!

Ladies and gentlemen, it seems that Kenya has become the prime destination for RnB crooners of yore.

And this time it would seem Lionel Richie is the latest crooner to have caught the eyes of Kenyan promoters. That’s right folks, Lionel Richie one of my mummy’s favourite crooners will be in Kenya for a performance. The singer who is also a producer, song writer and actor will be following in the footsteps of James Ingram and Erykah Badu.

The crooner who started of in a band called the “Commodores” back in the 1960s is known for a sleu of hits with the band which include: “Three Times A Lady”, “Brickhouse”. he then went solo and
produced the following hits: “Can’t Slow Down” and the vere fresh “All Night Long”.
To cut a long story short, Lionel Richie will be in town. Here’s one of my mummy’s favourites from the crooner:

Rohio & Juliet: A Kenyan Musical

Kenyan Musical: Rohio & Juliet will be staged in February on 16th at 5:00 p.m. for the gala performance; the next day 17th at 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.; and again on 23rd and 24th 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the Braeburn Theatre on Gitanga Road.

Rohio & Juliet was written by Gerry Gitonga, Faith Kisinga, Lucy Kwe, Brian Mwanjila, Debra Nginya, Brian Omondi and Julisa Rowe, who is also the director. The musical stars Muthoni Hunja, Sam Ngure, Lucy Oyier, Migwi Bradley, Denis Muchai, Brian Munyasia, Cyrus Mbugua and Rebecca Khisa among others.

Synopsis: In a plantation, there is usually the illusion of an idyllic farming group. However, beneath its deceptive exterior, the Chola’s plantation is everything but calm. The Cholas are uptight and feel entitled to the land and the people that work their land.

John Sibi Okumu’s New Play

The farm workers have little or no rights, until one of them becomes a lawyer, and their re-education begins. Then the unthinkable happens–he falls in love with his family’s masters’ daughter. What follows is a dramatic musical adventure full of humor and tragedy.

Message from the makers: This is the story of Rohio & Juliet, a Kenyan story loosely based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the classical romantic tragedy. The musical aptly tackles issues most pressing to Kenyans.

As we gear towards elections these are issues that we cannot afford to ignore and this dramatic musical puts a mirror in front of us with full doses of laughter, excitement, choreographed dance and original music by the Mamlaka Hill Chapel Drama team.

Tahidi High’s Miss Morgan Produces a New Play

The musical captures the true issues that we continually face us Kenyans, and which most people will readily relate. Rohio & Juliet delivers a powerful message in a truly unique theatrical performance that is bound to leave us all with the potent choice–love or war?

These are some of the hilarious but offensive comments that the world had for the first Kenyan Presidential debate

Kenya’s first and historical Presidential Debate happened on Monday and the entire world got to view it live. After the unfortunate turn of events in late 2007, shortly after the general elections, the world is now closely following every step that Kenya is taking towards this year’s general election, the most important being the Presidential debate and ofcourse, the election progress that is to follow.

News of the Presidential Debate was reported on leading regional and international media outlets, giving readers a platform of airing their views and concerns about the election development.

These are some of the most interesting comments that were posted on-line on leading news sites, as compiled by sources.

Yahoo News
“Are gay rights on the table???”

“Hopefully Obama will win this one.”

“So how can they do that (debate) when we have their village idiot over here”

“Where are the white candidates?”

“What no white people, Kenya is nothing but a bunch of racist”

“Why all of a sudden does Yahoo post Kenya news?? If Obama is an American citizen then why should this even be news??”

“Gosh now were going to get Kenya news force fed to us, Because that’s where King Obama is really from…”

Al Jazeera
“The win by Uhuru is imminent. The West should start leaving if they can not put up with his administration.”

Daily Monitor
“I am looking forward for such debates in our country-Uganda.”

“Debating is civilized but shooting at opposition is criminal. Kenya is always ahead of Uganda it seems these days, but in early Independence days Uganda was ahead.”

TNA’s Rachel Shebesh Now Also Gets A Car With Customized Plates

Last week we witnessed Mike Sonko add to his fleet of cars yet two other cars with customized plates. It now seems that customized plates is the way to go now that the government lifted the ban on personalized number plates.

Yesterday, Mike Sonko’s fellow member in TNA and the most preferred candidate (according to the latest Ipsos Synovate poll) for the Nairobi Women Representative, Rachel Shebesh display her customized plate’s car. JB Leaves Comedy Club & Joins One FM

Popular TV comedian, JB, has left the Comedy Club and joined MediaStream’s One FM.

The comedian who is the son of popular ’80s and ’90s comedian, Masanduku, made his debut on Tina Kagia‘s Drive Show today, which she took over from Adelle Onyango, who moved to Kiss 100.

JB has just recovered from an incident where he was the victim of a drugging in a Westlands club and had to be hospitalized at MP Shah Hospital. The ordeal was the basis of his first show, where he put a comical twist on the incident. Read about the unfortunate incident here.

JB becomes one of the many comedians who have made the move to radio joining the likes of Walter Mong’are (Nyambane), Eric Omondi, Daniel Ndambuki (Churchill), Jackie Nyaminde (Wilbroda) and Felix Oduor (Jalang’o) among others.

PRESENTING: Julie Gichuru’s Souped Up BMW X6

We’ve been chronicling Julie Gichuru‘s marvelous life here on Ghafla! and so far we have shown our audience photos of her 4 floor mansion located close to International School of Kenya.

Now I have learned from reliable sources that Julie Gichuru was one of the first people in Kenya to own a BMW X6. Hers is no ordinary X6. As you can see in the pic, it has been customized by AC Schnitzer with twin tailpipes and a very unique matte black colour, which to the average person would look kind of like a piece of coal.

You may be asking where Julie gets all this money from? Well, apart from being a renowned anchor for the largest TV station in Kenya, Julie’s husband comes from the super-rich Gichuru family. Despite all this wealth to her name, Julie Gichuru has never been heard to toot her own horn. She keeps on the down low. Trust me, we’ve had to look high and low for these pics of her. Cheers to a humble African. (Click the image to enlarge.)

“Ni kama vindeo ni kama ndrama” Guy Set To Release A Song

I said this guy was on the verge of becoming another instant celeb and that is now becoming a reality. It’s been barely a week and Jose of the “ni kama vindeo ni kama ndrama” fame has received more media coverage than any other commoner would ever get.

Yesterday during the recording of Churchill Show at the Carnivore, Jose was among the guests that were hosted on the show. It emerged that Jose was one of the new talent that Churchill is grooming for the entertainment world.

Jose who was accompanied by his mother, a pastor at Kasarani, revealed that he is planning to take a course in journalism and also drop a track under the name “ni kama vindeo ni kama ndrama”.

Of all XYZ Show parodies, this is the best they’ve ever done

Ever since they emerged into the Kenyan entertainment scene, they took over comedy with a bang!

The XYZ Show has never disappointed. Not even once in all their episodes. Now in their third season, the show is bringing out its best works yet and we are loving the outcome.

Of all music hit parodies they’ve done so far, I strongly feel that the ‘Gangsta Style’, parody to Gangnam Style, is the best and most hilarious.

I just found out that I’m not the only one who seems to think so. According to the Kenyan YouTube charts, XYZ’s Gangsta Style is the most viewed music video of the year, so far.

Check it out below.

This is currently the most viewed advertisement

When I went out looking for the most viewed advert of the month, or should I say since January, I had about three of some of the most entertaining advertisements in mind.

But alas! I was surprised to find non here. Even faiba. How Faiba did not make it to the top, I still don’t understand. People have change their entire dialogue and based it on this ‘Faimba’ dude and it doesn’t make number one. Just sad.

Anyway, according to the Kenyan YouTube charts, the most viewed Kenyan advertisement is… ‘Pampers’. You know, the one where the kid dances around in some diapers, feeling so free and what not. Kinda like how you feel when you are just from a session of skinny dipping.

Well, check it out.

RIB CRACKING! This one goes out to all Kikuyus

Lately, when one mentions ‘Kikuyu‘, it has always been on political grounds. But not on Ghafla. All the ‘Kikuyu’ you will be reading here today is all about Valentines.

The first ever big screen Kikuyu comedy movie has just been released and is ready to start showing in the cinemas. The movie, which is about Valentines, has been released just in time for the big day.

‘Valentine Ya Njaramba’, will be screening at the Starflix Cinemas and Prestige Plaza from the 12th to the 14th of February at 6PM.

Going to the movies for Valentines at this day and age may be considered a little bit shady, lame… maybe even cheap, but this movie, especially and obviously for the Kikuyus, is an exception.

Valentine ya Njaramba is about a man, Njaramba, who has just won tickets for two to Mombasa over Valentines but things don’t go as planned later on. His girl friend just left him. His friend, Solo is committed to another plan which he thinks is ingenious. Thing is, he (Solo) can’t really be relied upon. Thus a series of comical events ensue.

This is a hilarious movie you don’t want to miss (if you can understand Kikuyu). Check out the official trailer below.

Tickets go for Sh. 400 only.
