Tree-House Presents Juma Tutu On Thursday.

Last week Dela was at TreeHouse, and this week, TreeHouse goes Swahili.

This Thursday, Juma Tutu will be at Tree-House and if you fancy a bit of taarab, mwanzele and bango, then this is the event for you. Below is his bio.

Hailing from a musical family, Tutu was born Juma Abdalla Atibu in the heart of Mombasa. His father was a guitarist performing in local bars, whereas his mother sang in the church choir. Tutu, Juma’s adapted stage name is the Swahili word for beauty spot. In his second year of high school, Juma sang at various entertainment spots in order to earn his fees. Through his musical endeavours, he found the saxophone. His uncle Nahashon Mganga, a retired army officer who repaired saxophones taught him how to play it.

The years 1999 and 2000 saw him play with the Santa Ngoma band and later the Generations Band at the Serena Hotel in Mombasa. He then joined Bango Sounds where Mzee Ngala further trained him. His mastery of the saxophone led him to back Mzee Ngala. In 2001, Juma got the opportunity to join Them Mushroom band (Know for their world class hit Jambo bwana) in Nairobi. He played with them until 2003, when through the support of a well-wisher he was able to acquire musical equipment and form his own band, the Tutu Band.

In 2005, Juma Tutu became one of the winning finalists of the Spotlight on Kenyan Music competition organized by the Alliance Francaise and his song ‘Nakupenda kama Sukari’ was included in the compilation album. Juma has been inspired by ‘Mzee’ Joseph Ngala (Bango Sounds), Fela Kuti, Hugh Masekela, Manu de Bango, John Coltrane and Joshua Redman. As the years have worn on, Juma has grown as an individual and as a musician. Through his experiences, he has come up with a new style of music which he calls, Swahili Jazz.

Juma tackles very relevant social issues like Health, love, humor, peace and unity among others. Some of his most popular hits include Tahadhari, Kimombasa, Undugu and Nakupenda kama Sukari.

Alisha Popat Launches Oh Africa At Venom Lounge (Photos)

I’ve written quite a bit about this song.

Alisha Popat collaborated with Zolani Mahola of Freshly ground, and Peter Hollens, here is the link for the video Oh Africa. That the Moipei Quartet and Teto Tutuma did the background vocals, you know. I’m also hoping you watched the video. Read about it here. The Moipei Qaurtet also performed and boy weren’t they amazing on stage!

Dan Aceda and Amileena Are Not Breaking Up!

You have no idea how much I was waiting with bated breath for the link to this song! I came across a tweet jana and I think I spammed Dan Aceda’s direct message.

First things first, please scroll to the bottom of this page and listen to the soundcloud link. Heard it? Awesome huh.

Nanjira may have left Maqbul but Mr. Aceda is staying put! These are the details I have thus far. Let them say was written and produced by Dan Aceda himself, and is the second song off his upcoming sophomore album Safari. He says that he was looking for the prefect fit vocally for this track, and when he heard Amileena sing, he was blown away. Clearly TPF did this lady justice! Plus this according to him is the first of many future projects!

Chizi has done a song called wacha waseme with Neema so I sort to know what was different about this one. The tribal tensions that preceded the elections and permeated social media actually gave birth to this song. The theme of the song is all the hate you endure as a mixed tribe couple. Love conquers all, or atleast in this song it does prevail.

By the way, that awesome picture above was taken by Photographer Steve Warui, and the ‘shoot’ directed by Charles J Ouda.

The song is from the album Safari. Again, this song is all kinds of amazing. Dan Aceda was recently at Choices with The Villagers, read about that here.

Read about Amileena here. This lady really does compliment Aceda vocally. I listened to it five times before I embarked or writing, I can’t get enough.

If You’re An Aries Baby, Get Ready To Party

I do not believe in horoscopes and star signs. With that said, Scorpios rule. All the rest drool. Now that i am done asserting the fact that Scorpio is the best star sign, we can get into the good news.

If you happen to be an Aries baby, Crooked Qs is throwing down a sick party on your behalf. All you have to do is to show up actually. The party will be held on the 30th of March -yeah, Saturday so you have no excuse not to attend.

The party will run from 9pm straight through to 6am. The DJ on the decks will be DJ Andie and the party will be at Crooked Qs Upstairs. So if you or a loved one is an Aries baby, you should probably find your way on down to Westlands and get to the Aries party.

The party is hosted by DJ Slique.

Songbird Winyo To Play This Thursday At Choices Baricho Road.

Winyo Winyo Winyo. Where do I begin?

I waxed lyrical about him here when he had a concert earlier this month.

Well he will be at Choices this Thursday, and you have no excuse not to attend seeing as friday is good friday and therefore a holiday.

Winyo-CD-sampler-cover

According to Ketebul’s website, he was born Shiphton Onyango. Winyo adopted his artistic name ‘Winyo’, which is a Luo word (a tribe from the Lake Victoria region of Western Kenya) for “a bird”. The reason for this becomes apparent once you hear him sing. His voice has been likened to that of a singing bird.

Winyo is described as a singer/songwriter and arranger of great sensitivity and also plays the guitar, backed by his 4 piece band of accomplished musicians. He derives his music and musical strength from his fore fathers, whose African music was rich in melody and traditional harmonies. His musical style ranges from traditional Luo melodies infused with witty story lines, afro fusion and afro jazz, to a contemporary interpretation of Benga, transformed into an authentic acoustic sound. His powerful yet mellow vocals are the icing on the cake that makes listening to Winyo, an almost heavenly experience.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/___jxrpFPmcY/TFVZe-_3rGI/AAAAAAAAAJU/TEQGTbbjDfw/s1600/high+note.JPG

Winyo sings in his paternal language of Dholuo, Swahili and English. His stories address a myriad of social issues ranging from the plight of homeless children to courtship and love stories. He started off as part of the critically acclaimed and accomplished trio named ‘Rateng’ (which means Black in Luo), cutting his teeth as the composer, vocalist and guitarist of the group. Winyo was instrumental in the writing and composing of the group’s album titled ‘Thumology’, which was released in 2009.
In 2010, Winyo was shortlisted as one of the ten finalists in the Radio France International (RFI) Discoveries. He went on to be the overall first runners up. This was followed by a second nomination and top ten shortlisting in RFI Discoveries in 2011.

Two interesting facts I got from the site, is that he wrote and arranged Niwe, Nguga ii Baiskeli, Malaika (Arrangement), Fever (arrangement) for Valerie Kimani’s debut album Baiskeli. He’s also the singer behind Angalia Saa for Ukoo Fulani Mau Mau. Winyo is also a professional photographer, actor and a TV producer. He is currently the executive video producer for a Kenyan media company called Big foot productions, which has produced several local TV shows.

After Giving Up Sex, Kenzo Now Giving Up Alcohol

Remember the story we gave you about Kenzo giving up sex and going celibate? If you don’t, read about it here. Then there was the story about girls chasing after Kenzo now that he has decided to go celibate. But now, according to Monday Blues, Kenzo is going off alcohol.

Yeah, it would seem that Kenzo is on the straight and narrow. He gave up sex and has now given up the frothy brew of the gods. And why has he taken such dratic measures you ask? Well, according to Kenzo, the brew was affecting his musical career.

Apparently, his decision is because his voice was getting hoarse and his concentration was also waning. I wish nothing but the best for the lad.

Ringtone Calls For A Nomination Slot From TNA!

Ringtone recently granted an interview to the editor of a Friday newspaper pullout in which he hinted which direction he was taking his career whether musical or otherwise.

According to said editor, Ringtone said the following:

“I am also available for nomination would the Jubilee Party (the political outfit he was in the fore-front of campaigning for) Leaders find me relevant to hold any of the posts in the youth related sectors. As a singer, I have been a role model to many and I am ready to take over a leadership as I have youth issues at heart.”

I wonder whether this means we will be seeing other artists and celebrities being nominated to parliament by TNA. Wonder if Jaguar will also soon become a mheshimiwa. Read about Ringtone’s decision to drop his bid to vie for the Dagorreti North Parliamentary seat on a TNA ticket.

Did Shaffie Weru Just Friendzone Madharau Mirfat?

On Friday, a popular entertainment magazine alleged a budding relationship between Shaffie Weru and Madharau Mirfat. The pullout magazine claimed that there was a fledgling relationship in the offing because the pair had been seen checking into Jameson Party together.

Apparently they were seen hand in hand and they had a security detail to protect them. Clearly, that constitutes a relationship…. Anyway, Shaffie has now come out to deny the allegations and said the two are merely friends -wait, did Shaffie Weru just friendzone Mirfat?

Anyway, they have apparently been friends for a long time now and they were just friends out on a night and looking to have fun. Actually, what he said was, “It’s such a joke for anyone to say we are dating. That vibe isn’t flowing.”

Winner Of Africa Magic’s Best African Short Film To Showcase Her Works This Evening.

When a film wins an award and is quickly nominated for another, then you better take note.

There’s a concept in Marketing/advertising where customers are divided into categories ranging from early adopters to laggards. I have found Kenyans in general to be in the late majority or laggards sections. Why? Most of us jump on a band wagon when it has become ‘popular.’. I try, try to be an early adopter so that I’m never accused of follwing trends. What am I on about? Yellow Fever.

Best African Short Film To be Screened At Lola Festival At Goethe.

This movie won best short film at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards that were held in Nigeria. Go watch it this evening, the event is called Lola Festival, and it’s free. It begins at 6.00 PM, at Goethe Institute’s auditorium.

BMF Launch Trailer To Their New Song Ndakuyanza

Their name Be My Faithful confuses me but we won’t get into it right now.

They launched their debut album last December as reported here. Well they shared the trailer on Youtube and thanks to a link by Adelle Onyango, I came across it. According to them, the song is asking Jesus to heal people from the situation they go through in Life. Oh, read an earlier interview about them wishing they had done more in school.

The video was done by Prince Cam Media & Directed by Sammy DEE of BMF. Sammy Dee also directed Jimmy Gait’s video Marungu. See that here.

{youtube}Dg6I65X-Lpg{/youtube}

From their facebook profile, their bio reads “BMF(Be My Faithfull ones) formed in 2006 consists of four guys namely; Fredrick Ouma a.k.a Mizzile, Samuel Maina a.k.a Sammy Dee, Harison Ashioya a.k.a Harry Ash and Patrick Maina a.k.a Maich. “Initialy, in the year 2000, BMF consisted of three members; Patrick Maina, Fredrick Ouma and Benson Munyi who left the group in 2004. Dela Rocks TreeHouse.

Last week was a special week for me and I chose to kick it at Treehouse. Why? Read on.

I like to take walks when my head is clouded or misty with thoughts, and Thursday 21st March was one of those days. As I walked to museum hill, my mind was suspended in that place between anticipation and fret. Is fret even a noun? Oh well, soon as I got to Tree House where Dela would dazzle, my fears seemed to dissipate, the ambiance was awesome, the music relaxing, my angst vanished. In it’s place, excitement set in.

I’d never heard Dela sing live, and here she was, about to take to the stage and transport me to the same place she leaves me at when I hear weche tek or war in my heart. War in my heart, have you heard that Beyonce-esque note she hits towards the end of the song? Perfect climax. Then there’s paukwa pakawa! I was busy chatting up people before the show that I forgot I was meant to find a seat!.

http://a3.twimg.com/profile_images/1647279150/avatar.JPEG

There she was, looking pensive almost, nerves take their toll on you when the weight of the world is seemingly of your shoulders. And as a musician whose reputation precedes you, nothing could be further from the truth. I said hi, engaged her in a tete a tete and then asked her to try be zen. I like that word alot, that and channeling your energies, it’s what you become when you have worked or live with yogis. She got to the stage and that electrifying air of expectation was pungent! I could not wait for her to sing me away, and as soon as she opened her mouth to say ‘wassup people’ I shivered with nervous energy. This was gonna be a great show, intuition never lies.

And a great show it was, from Ulivyo where she openly trounced the guys with her lower register to war in my heart where she hit that note only operatic sopranos pull off with ease, we ebbed and flowed with where her belted notes began and her soft purrs ended. Lemmi tell you, when a white woman shrieks every word to weche tek, then you know you have the world eating from the palm of your hands! How! No really, how did this white mama learn the words to weche tek?

Dela's unveiling

Ofcourse the highlight of my evening, was when she led the charged crowd in singing happy birthday to me. The women next to me were oohed and awwed, I blushed like a teenager high on testasterone upsurges. The show was epic, I kid you not. When you are on stage backed by Moses Odumbe of Santuri and Villagers band, Brian Omondi drummer extraordinaire and Allan wanjohi on vocals and bass, you know you have a ‘fire-proof’ team. The keys guy was fantastic, sadly I didn’t get his name.

Just when we thought the show was over and that it was time to hit the road, the manager demanded an encore which was echoed loudly. Dela cleverly ‘evaded’ that ‘trap’ and guess who she picked on? Sauti sol who’d just checked into the building from Atemi’s listening party at Sankara. I’d reported that she will be launching her album next week. Well her listening party was yesterday.

The final song was their duet with Dela, mama papa, and the crowds hang on to Delvin’s every word, even serenading Dela when he asked them to. Great concerts are made of this! The next time I recommend a gig, please attend. Please.

Nation Media Group’s Boniface Mwalii Fuels War Of Words On Media Wars!

I doubt that when he penned the article “Out With The Old In With The Old”, Buzz’s Boniface Mwalii knew he was courting controversy… Or maybe he did. Who knows. The article in question might have been a strongly worded thinly veiled attack on K24.

It appeared on Sunday’s Buzz issue on the 24th of March. The article was about the recent re-branding of K24 and the poaching they have been doing. Boniface Mwalii’s piece was in a word, scathing. But that was an opinion piece that gave his take.

Whatever his play was, it lit a fire with Kenyans On Twitter speculating on whether the article was NMG’s stand on K24’s attempts at gutting Citizen by poaching most of it’s news anchors. Boniface spoke about the fact that the news started a whole 30 minutes late. Instead of starting at 9pm, it started at 9:30pm. Then he tore into the anchors “mitumba 2 3/4 piece suits”. Burn!

<Boniface Mwalii is the lad on the left>

Burn he didn’t stop there. He railed at the graphics design of the whole station and poked fun at whether the K24 top brass ran out of money before they could poach Citizen’s graphics designer. The article was hilarious to say the least but it raised quite the storm.

Here are some of the comment that were tweeted about the article:

@manuel_ofishal

@iwittness naona mmenza ka tweef na @K24Tv

@Ogutu

@iWITTness ‘Out with the old, in with the old.’ What a piece!!!!”

No, Ghafla!Kenya Wasn’t Hacked

Earlier today, Saliva Vic -1FM employee- tweeted about Ghafla having been hacked. I honestly don’t know where this rumour emanated from… No, actually i do. Ghafla was down for most of Friday and over the weekend.

Again, i need to reiterate. What Ghafla is basically going through is growing pains. Actually more like teething problems. The site has been experiencing some discomfort from the growth in traffic. We have actually had to shut down the hits counter so that our website host doesn’t keep shutting us down.

That strategy fell flat after a short few hours because even with the hit counter off, we still went over what they consider to be normal traffic or an African site (!) and so they shut us down again. When this happened, our web developer suggested that we take the down time and do something constructive; switch servers.

That tok the better part of the weekend and i’m not sure whether that was completed. Soon as i do, you will too. So no Saliva Vic, Ghafla wasn’t shut down. and trust that we “know people”. We know the President himself. Yup and Jackson Makini likes Ghafla.

“There are people who own this country. Just ask Ghafla how their *ss got hacked. By the way are they back up?”

Jay A Set To Sign Lucrative Recording Deal!

I’m on record as having said that Jay A is one of the most promising rappers Kenya has had to offer for quite the minute. I also said that how workrate is crazy. The gusto with which he has been recording songs and releasing videos is reminiscent of Lil Wayne minus the garbage songs.

Well, it would seem i’m not the only one to have taken note of either the talent or workrate possessed by the young lad. According to the a popular newspaper pullout, Jay A is said to be mulling over an offer from a leading international record company.

Previously, Jay A has said the before he can begin thinking about seeking an international recording deal, he’d prefer to first cement his position in the local entertainment scene. That casts some shadow of doubt and uncertainty over his next move. But given the number of hits he’s been dropping, i doubt it will take that long. Check out his love song that features Anto Neosoul here. You can also check out his most fiery musical offering “Take Notes” here.

Julie Gichuru Going Off TV

Today, Julie Gichuru announced that she would not be an anchor for Citizen TV for the next few months. She made the surprise announcement during the ‘Sunday Live’ news broadcast at 9pm.

On what she will be doing in the meantime said, “This is not an end. It is the beginning of bigger things behind the scenes.” This implies that she is going to focus on her entrepreneurial ventures, including her recently-launched fashion website.

Julie proceeded to thank all the backroom staff of Royal Media Services whom she could recall, and handed over her official duties to Janet Mbugua. She becomes the latest in a long list of reporters, anchors and journalists who have left the media house in recent weeks. We at Ghafla! wish her all the best. Despite what has happened, Julie has done really well for herself during her time at Citizen. Check out the two mansions she built with that RMS money.

Mike Sonko Downplays Kenyan Daily Post’s Insults

Recently, the Kenyan Daily Post published a rather offensive article from one of its readers addressed to the Nairobi Senator-elect, Gideon Mbuvi AKA Mike Sonko. According to the post, Sonko was not carrying out his duties as expected by the electorates.

The writer of the letter questioned why the Senator-elect always hanged around the president-elect and his deputy, in his words like “like a housefly following some feaces”. “I know he is your friend, lakini what value are you adding every time standing behind him like his aide? Why follow him to Coast whereas we elected you to work in nairobi? We understand makwere’s presence, lakini wewe unafanya nini? Unaharibia president na deputy wake jina. U are creating a bad impression that you are the closest to the two and is out to control them for your selfish interests, especially going by your not-so-good history. Uhuru and ruto are already working. When will you start working? Go back to Nairobi and start your work. Kazi yako iko nairobi. And, for the umpteenth time, stop following these guys. Kubaff.” read the letter in part.

Last evening, the flamboyant politician toned down as he responded to the letter. Here is his response;

“I would wish to respond to Kenyan Daily Post for abusing me. If you have been keen enough during the campaign period i concentrated so much with Presidential campaign and i did little about myself.I wish you questioned me why i didn’t concentrate campaigning for myself in Nairobi that Time.
I’m a leader to all Kenyans and as a senator i will not only concentrate with Nairobians but to all Kenyans in this country. Don’t forget i have not been sworn in as a Senator. Please stop judging me before i have entered even into senatorial office .But i appreciate your observation but resist that abusive language…” The thing is this whoever who owns the Kenya Daily post, Presidents and even President Elects choose who should be around them, by choosing Sonko the statement goes beyond Sonko the person, he represents something that even political analysts do not understand he appealed to youths across tribes without a single campaign, The President Elect is simply saying “It is not your dressing, or how people view you your bling or your stud, it’s your value, your social intelligence and your ability to perform that will count”

Read About Colonel Moustapha’s Gay Sex Drama!

Pulse have carried a day in today’s edition about Colonel Moustapha being involved in a gay sex drama. I was excited to read the story…

The story is actually about Colonel Moustapha being hit on by some homosexuals at a club. Personally i don’t see the big deal, it’s just a matter of telling them you aren’t interested. However, according to Pulse, Colonel said, “That was the most shocking thing ever in my life. I called security and reported the matter after which the guys were thrown out.” I’m also pretty angry about the wasted 2 minutes i dedicated to reading this particular article in the Pulse.

That sounds like iyClub security which while allowing prostitutes into the establishment as alleged by Mista Majani. Read about the last homophobic incident at iyclub here.

Former KBC Anchor Becomes The 1st Youngest Senator

The 2013 General Elections came with a few surprises as some of the famous people in entertainment and social scene contested and successfully clinched the various seats they had vied for. Already the Man Karish, Sabina Wanjiru wa Chege and Milicent Mugadi have begun having their feet in politics.

However, there is yet another TV personality who has just joined the fore mentioned in politics. Ladies and gentlemen say hello to Madam Senator Naisula Lesuuda. The fine-looking Lesuuda was yesterday nominated by TNA a senator thanks to the humanitarian activities and peace initiatives she has actively spearheaded.

At just 27 years old Lesuuda is Kenya’s youngest and unquestionably hottest senator. She had been a journalist and anchor at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) for year, specializing in human interest stories and especially those from her rural home in Samburu.

Lesuuda left the newsroom after she had been sent to do a story in which over 40 of her community members had been killed in inter-ethnic clashes, a situation that made her realize that she was doing little to help her community from the newsroom.

Sad Day For Literature As Chinua Achebe Dies.

When you scroll down your timeline on twitter, the last thing you expect to see is rest in peace Chinua Achebe.

http://www.sawtoothbooks.com/pictures/24162.JPG

So while I was celebrating yesterday, this famous author and playwright was breathing his last. I thought it was a lie till I saw Dennis Itumbi and Vinie O tweet about it and my doubtful self had to admit there could be a semblance of truth there. I hope none of you will ask me who Chinua Achebe is, for me apart from Chimamanda and Wole Soyinka, I will not lie, I do not currently recall any other West African writer that have had an impact on my reading habits like these three.

I first got introduced to Chinua Achebe, surprisingly through watching things fall apart on telly. The only thing I was good at as a toddler was humming songs. The show used to give me nightmares, just like Escrava Isaura, remember that one? I read Chinua Achebe from class five onwards because really, compositions had to be passed, it was 844 was it not? Okwonkwo was however a name I have never forgotten.

The book that made me appreciate his literary prowess funnily enough was A man of the people. It was the first time I was introduced to pidgin before Afro cinema was all the rage in Nairobi. At first I loathed the book, it was dead boring my ignorant self thought. When however I decided to read about Nigerian culture, and juxtapose the themes brought to the fore in it against Kenya, I began to appreciate just how timely that book was although it had been penned in 1966.

His wikipedia bio which was already updated reads “Chinua Achebe (born Albert Chínụ̀álụmọ̀gụ̀ Àchèbé, 16 November 1930 – 21 March 2013) is a Nigerian  novelist, poet, professor, and critic. He is best known for his first novel and magnum opus, Things Fall Apart (1958), which is the most widely read book in modern African literature.” What a stalwart.

http://cdn.thenetng.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Chinua-Achebe-Things-Fall-Apart.jpg

“Raised by his parents in the Igbo town of Ogidi in southeastern Nigeria, Achebe excelled at school and won a scholarship for undergraduate studies. He became fascinated with world religions and traditional African cultures, and began writing stories as a university student. After graduation, he worked for the Nigerian Broadcasting Service (NBS) and soon moved to the metropolis of Lagos. He gained worldwide attention for Things Fall Apart in the late 1950s; his later novels include No Longer at Ease (1960), Arrow of God (1964), A Man of the People (1966), and Anthills of the Savannah (1987). Achebe writes his novels in English and has defended the use of English, a “language of colonisers”, in African literature. In 1975, his lecture An Image of Africa: Racism in Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness” became the focus of controversy, for its criticism of Joseph Conrad as “a bloody racist” and was later published.”

Information was pretty scanty, but what I could gather was that he passed away in the States undergoing treatment. This is the man whose books have been read by almost every Kenyan above the age of twenty five who went through the Kenyan school system. He died exactly twenty three years after his life altering accident, that left him paralysed on March 22nd 1990. May he rest in peace. Read more about him here.

We have lost a repository of knowledge, this is one of those situations where the ‘library’ was burned to smouldering ashes like the old adage goes.

Enough Of The Naija Vs Kenya Tweef! Nigeria Won. Move On!

Enough of this Kenya vs Nigeria tweef already! But you can read about it here. Yesterday i said i wouldn’t take sides but after reading some of the tweets on social media, i cannot remain so. I have to weigh in because alot of what’s being said about Nigeria is plain ignorance. Let’s just see how the 2 nations stack up against each other in matters pertaining to entertainment. Oh yeah, i’ll go there!

#1. Famous playwrites and book authors
Nigeria has this one won. Kenya is well beat. Nigeria has Chinua Achebe but the response to that would be Ngugi a Thiong’o. But Kenya draws a blank when we mention Wole Soyinka Kenya draws a blank. When i mention Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie you again draw a blank. Nigeria has it!

#2. Entertainers and celebrities.
Do i have to speak about this one? No. You know so many internationally acclaimed Nigerian entertainers yet the can mention even one  Kenyan artist. Trust me on this one.

#3. Movies
Nollywood, billions. Of naira and dollars! Riverwood? Uhm sit down son!
But Kenya has Nairobi half life. Take a seat Naija. This is a draw.

#4. Women love us!
I know this isn’t entertainment related but it has to be said. Kenyan women can’t help it. Ask yourself how Uncle Chim came about…

#5. Sports
Football. While what Naija has done to Kenya is humiliating and unnecessary, it has to be said, “African Champions”! And on Saturday i will be at Oxygen watching Kenya get yet another drubbing.
However, Kenya is awesome at rugby. We were number 2 world wide at some point this year. See what i did there? Being a point5, i can switch whenever it suits me.
This one is a draw. Saturday will be a massacre!

But when all is said and done, Dangote! BOOM SHAKA LAKA!

5. Sauti Sol are famous! What pray tell did they look like before fame smiled on them? Here.

6. Shee Waruinge, yes her, she decided to take shots at Ian Mugoya on our site. Yes, here.

Ever Pictured Hellon And Ruth Matete Together?

I knew that headline would capture your attention! Relax, I’m talking about a musical tryst.

Now today being Thursday, there are three gigs happening in town. First and foremost, Dela will be at TreeHouse along Museum Hill. Ricky Nanjero will be at Choices along Baricho road. Then there is Hellon, Ruth Matete, and Judith Njuguna on one stage at Galileos. Doubtful? These are the details

“Jazz Maestro Hellon presents Jazz ‘n Clad at Gallileo Lounge tonight and every Thursday. These shows feature extraordinary talent on musical instruments and voice. Tonight has Grey and Pink as the colour scheme. Our music is a combination of songs from my 5 albums performed as from 8 to 9pm, then Ruth Matete sings popular cover songs from around the world as from 9 to 10pm. I get back on stage as from 10 to 11pm with smooth jazz featuring songs from Kenny G, Dave Koz and a whole host of jazz hits across the world of jazz. I also feature talented singers like Sefu Sanni, Nikita Mitchell accompanied by the famous Eclave Band. We enjoy good dressing and etiquette as part and parcel of our jazz culture…” Enough said, now to the pictures. They are courtesy of Joseph Hellon and Bessy Bugo Jewellery and Accessories.

This Promises To Be The Best Easter Weekend House Party.

Heard of African Global Dj Awards? Please read that because you need to vote for your favorite Kenyans deejays.

Here’s the link to that article, please vote vote vote! Now one of the deejays nominated is Dj Donnacia and I shall be bringing you more on him in the coming days. Now he has an event that is called the ‘LOVE GENERATION – The Return Of The Gurus.’

The invite says that this event was put together, so y’all can come out in great numbers and illustrate your love for each other. This love is also for the music that unites. Helping you do this will be a selected group of “Gurus”, each equipped with their vessel of choice, from hard hitting Big Room House to the bass heavy Reggae Dub, from the beautiful sounds of Trance to the urban bounce of Hip-Hop. Esh!

The invite withholds some information, whet their appetites is the new catch phrase. “The line up of Gurus is to be announced during the week before that of the event.” My curiosity is totally stirred up. The venue for this soon to be transcendent love affair will be a mansion located within a private residence, location to be disclosed in the coming days. Entrance to the congregation of Gurus is KSH 1000/=. Wow, this is clearly one of those events that you just must attend, there are no two ways about it. Allow me to digress a little, below is a picture of Dj Donnacia, how cool!

Donnaccia's profile photo

There will be 2 fully stocked bars, as well as a sheesha lounge for those that want to get right into the hippie feel of things. There will be a VIP area inside the house, but only for those over 21 and on the guest list. There will be a dress code people, but for the first time, you have leeway to go all out! Whatever makes you comfortable, bright colors and lots of kikoy/khanga materials encouraged. Come out and represent as a urban hippie.” Urban hippie? I know a few people who will unleash their tie and tie couture. You however, have to be over 18 to attend this mother of a party.

One more caveat, ‘Management reserves the right to admission.’ No goon-ish looking people, ain’t nobody got time for a fracas! Now back to that voting story, vote! Wondering why? Read that here as well.

Socialite Cum Actress Shee Waruinge Takes Shots At Ian Mugoya On Ghafla!

I’m in the business of minding my own. When work ends, it’s over. If it’s Thursday, you’ll catch me at Changes getting faded and basically just celebrating life. Sometimes i’ll have a lass with me, sometimes it’ll be office bonding time. Like tonight. But this doesn’t cover anything i see while i’m on the clock!

And i came across this gem while trolling the commenters who enjoy insulting us on the site. Seems Shee Waruinge isn’t feeling Ian Mugoya at all! And she chose Ghafla as her medium of conveyance. This comment was made on the article about Nick Mutuma, Iam Mugoya, Eddie Tash and Shappaman getting involved in a tiff.

Check out the shot she took at Mugoya below:

Kenyans And Nigerians Fight It Out On Twitter!

My cousins on both sides were quick to call me up to let me know that Kenyans and Nigerians were tweefing. For the uninitiated, tweefing is duking it out on twitter; settling beef. And today’s battle was epic!

The beef all stems from Kenya’s abhorrent treatment at the hands of Nigeria’s football federation. Nigeria has taken to poor sportsmanship if the truth is told. Nigeria would win anyway but they have taken to denying Kenya’s Harambee Stars proper training facilities. Bleurgh!

But away from that, some of the tweets have been as follows starting with the winner from Kenya:

“#SomeoneTellNigeria we can reduce them from 9ja to 0ja or 1ja in minutes”

Bright Gmeli was only too eager to share this one with me. That Ghanaian ting!

Then there were these:

#SomeoneTellNigeria It is Only in their ‘movies’ that a 35 year old Lady will play the role of a primary school girl.

#SomeOneTellNigeria Kenya has three presidents, we don’t depend on #Goodluck to have one

#SomeOneTellNigeria We can disfigure P-Square to P-Rectangle or even P-Triangle

With #SomeoneTellNigeria I see Kenya Trending Worldwide and Nigerians with their #SomeoneTellKenya Trending in Nigeria. Were Twitter Kings

Then Nigerians responded:

“Did you know that Dangote could hire the richest man in Kenya to clean his shoes?”

“u knw all our Nigerian stars, ur TV stations show our movies, bt we dont even knw where u r on the map”

“We are so rich even our grammar takes holidays”

“the Harambeeboys are playing African Champions and they should be glad.”

“The most popular game in Kenya is Hunger Games”

“Someone tell Kenyans that no matter how far they run, they can never run away from hunger”

And this: Kenyans going to the mall:

Embedded image permalink

“Wait, Kenya? No be that place wey only Ostrich and camel dey live? Human beings dey live there?”

“Your president looks like a predator with a bonny head!”

“tried go google the best hotel in this is all i get”

I opt to be neutral on this one. I cannot pick a side. I love both. I am both.

All Roads Lead To Changes Tonight!

First off, Happy birthday Dean! Now we can proceed.

Tonight, if you’re going out, i hope to see you at Changes. The end. What more could i say to convince you that you should come out to Changes? Perhaps i should talk about the offers aye? Maybe i should tell you that up until midnight, you can get 3 beers at 400/- aye? That translates to you spending 135/- per beer.

But maybe that’s not it. You don’t even drink so talking about great offers on beers doesn’t tickle your fancy aye? Well if you dance or you just enjoy good music, then this is the place for you tonight. The DJ on deck will be Kaytrixx the Entertainer. Trust me when i say that he never disappoints. You will dance until your feet file for emancipation! That’s just how Kaytrixx is! He’s that beast on the turntable! And there’s no joking about his business, his passion. Check out a picture of Kaytrixx medidating at home before a show here.

No, you strike me more as a lad who steps out to mingle with fine women aye? no worries baba! Changes has you covered. If what you seek is face time with some lovely ladies, they’ll be out at Changes. And ladies, if you’re looking for the grown and sexy lads, they’ll all be out at Changes. What more could you possibly want? But if you want the swag crowd, check elsewhere. The mature folk will be out tonight trying to live it up.

So what more could you want? If you like that red carpet entrance, you have that. All of it, not just half! And with that i lay my pen down.
I know i was wasting my time all along because you already knew you had your mind made up aye? I’ll catch you at Changes tonight! Boom Shaka Laka!

PHOTO GALLERY: Check Out Julie Gichuru’s 2nd Mansion!

Our Ghafla sleuth was at it again! And this time he actually managed not to get his finger in the frame! That might just result in a bonus for the lad! Just kidding! But i hope you remember the last article we did where we showed you her house which is still under construction.

However, if you don’t, click this link to see it. Anyway, i’m bringing you a photo gallery of her 3 storey house situated in one of Nairobi’s leafy links suburbs that used to be a coffee plantation. That’s enough of a hint.

Cess Mutungi Admits That She Dated A Married Man

This debate just won’t die down! First clerics went ham on this new advertisement, and then shockingly, the advertisement was pulled down on ‘request’, because the ‘conservatives’ were offended. Yes, HIV infections skyrocketing in marriages is clearly not a national disaster.

Now I won’t lie, I usually listen to Capital Fm on when I can because I really love Neo Soul. Some people say because of that I’m bourgeoisie or bourgie as guys say in Nairobi. I have no apologies to make. Plus the banter oh lawd! Now If you have not heard Cess and Makosewe chat on air you don’t know what rib-cracking humour is! When Grace Makosewe joined Cess Mutungi and Kanungo became an anthem, I knew my week would never be the same. Cess ruffles feathers, but she does it with such effortless poise no wonder she was voted five most interesting personalities in the media here.

With a tinge of sarcasm, and humour galore, Cess decided to weigh in on this grave matter. Her stance however was different, she did not ‘approve’ of the condom ad because it is men who should first and foremost be driving the discussion about protection because they are the ones with the ‘appendage.’ She said that she would have preferred if Jimmy Gathu was the face of Trust condoms.

0.jpgCess who is known for her no holds barred opinions even went ahead to admit that back in the day, she actually dated a married man and that he was not using protection with her. Gob-smacked? She admitted that she’d date a gay man as long as he was using protection with her because as you know, sexually transmitted infections are higher among male same sex relationships.

This lady speaks her mind, and she makes zilch apologies for it. Sometimes I wish she’d get a talk show on telly, because she’d create conversations that would totally raise hell and high water. In tandem, I would churn stories like the rumour mills bellow lies like chimney smoke. Seriously though, hypocrisy is driven away by candour like this. Her advice to women, “if a guy does not produce a condom, ask him if he has a brother.” Don’t you just love her!

I gave my two cents about this condom advert here. Read about that.

More Details Emerge On The Reason For The Fight That Involved Camp Mulla’s Shappaman, Ian Mugoya, Nick Mutuma And Eddie Tash!

The initial report about the altercation that erupted after the Jameson Party has led to alot of raised tempers. Everyone is has been trying to tell me what i saw. Thing is, there were like 50 other people there. Well, that and the fact that i dn’t care to alter my truth.

But that’s not why i have sermoned this small; gathering. I have done so to explain further as to why the altercation occurred. Remember me saying that i heard Capital FMs Eddie Tash exclaiming that he was no thief? Well, i have found out why he was being accused. And no it wasn’t about the theft of a pone.

So, Nick Mutuma’s girlfriend was jamming with the yobs when her handbag disappeared. not her phone but her whole handbag. And she suspected Eddie Tash’s date for the night. Naturally, with alcohol having been consumed, tempers flared.

They actually had a small exchange of words on twitter -again i ask, what happened to the good ol fashioned way of settling issues face-to-face? Anyway, here’s what they had to say to each other:

“It just hit me, I just can’t get over Saturday night, the stuff that was in that bag and even the bag its self is just to painful!!”

Then

“Fvck you and all the ugly useless b!tches you fvck!! @EddTash!!”

To which he responded with a picture:

Embedded image permalink

And what is the moral of the story? 1st is that something did indeed go down. That much is proven by the coincidence of facts. 2nd, can everyone please stop talking greasy on twitter and actually have a mature seat with me. As far as i’m concerned, adults deal with problems face-to-face. Don’t get it twisted, while i did infact run away from the gun totting lad, i don’t fear lads, i only lads with guns.

You can read about the original story on the altercation at the night club here.

After Launching New Video, Adawnage To Have A Tell All Session.

I just wrote about Adawnage releasing a new video, and there’s more.

They sent me this invite that I’m glad to share with all of you. “Adawnage Band invites you to THE STORY OF MY LIFE Worship Experience. The theme will take an intimate nature, in that the various band members will share some of life’s challenges that they have gone through and how Christ has been their constant source of strength. It’s a “let’s meet at the cross” kind of an event where our burdens are laid down. Come and get nourished in God’s presence.”

Radio Maisha Put On Notice

Last week, Royal Media Services’ vernacular radio station, Egesa FM was warned by Television Viewers and Radio Listeners Association of Kenya for allegedly spreading hate. Today, a similar warning has been issued to Standard Group’s Radio Maisha.

In a statement to the public, the Television Viewers and Radio Listeners Association of Kenya’s secretary general, Martin Nyakundi O’barimo said that the association had received complaints that Radio Maisha had also entered into the murky waters of playing “partisan journalism”.

He asserted that this happens during the breakfast show hosted by Mshamba, Jalang’o and Mwakideo as well as during the Sikika Sasa programme. O’barimo also added that the association holds Radio Maisha in high esteem and hoped that the complaints were not true.

“We are asking Wellington Nyongesa, the head of programmes to follow up on the matter and maintain the dignity of his station,” concluded the statement.

Adawnage Release New Song.

February was a good month for Adawnage as a member got hitched! Did you see that?

Well great things abound. Adawnage known for monster hits hits like uwezo are back with a new video. While the song was released a while back, the video itself was released last week. Oh read about Robert’s nuptuals here.

Their bio is very simple, ‘May 28th, 2008 was the Band’s inception. We call it “THE DIVINE CONNECTION” because it took great people, varied personalities, out-of-this-world characters and above all, the unified call to service to be who and what we are today!

The inception of the band was ordained, since we came together after having separately and individually tried to make it on our own. Each came close to making it but not cigar. All these changed when we merged and the unit was born, the family was formed and a bond was created hence making us ‘MORE THAN A BAND’.

A new day, a new beginning…that fresh start & oh yes, A NEW AGE! & that’s what we are about! A-DAWN-AGE!

Adawnage Band is a vibrant unit of energetic individuals from different established professional backgrounds who have come together with the sole purpose of reaching out to the world with positive, electric, realistic and inspirational music.” I personally love their Zidi the band adawnage merger which they call Ziada, they sound really fantastic together!

This band consists of Roselyn Mwihaki, Anthony Iganza, Robert Njuguna, Wanjiku Mirithu, Frank Muriuki, Lorna Olwanda, David Ogara, Noah Otiende, Victor Chege, Emerald Lily, Elvis Muema, Grace Nduku. Adawnage Band released their Debut Album SAFARI – The Journey in December 2010. Watch their new video below.
