Bamboo’s Baby Sister Finally Releases Her Video And It’s Hot!

After releasing the teaser to her video, Vicky has finally delivered and yeah, this video lives up to the hype. The cinematography is awesome, the picture quality stellar and i also really like the choreography. The video which was directed by Ali Zamani in Los Angeles CA uses strong colors, beautiful lighting and carefully co-ordinated wardrobe.

The song though… I’m alittle conflicted here because while it’s a good song, the message is one time-wasters will relate with and i dare say this is the new time-waster anthem. For those of you not in the know, a time-waster is a lass who leads you on, you buy the drinks at the club and whatnot only for her to bid you farewell as she exists stage left!

The track has Vicky telling us about some lad who was looking dapper at the club and he saw her and threw rounds at her only for her to tell him he won’t be getting any of this “Mtoto”. Actually, she moves on to calling the lad ugly and fugly… Fugly for heaven sakes! The lad bought drinks for heaven’s sake!

The track though as i said is pretty cool. It gets the 4 Ghafla rating!

See How Tallia Has Kept It Tight After Delivering A Baby (PHOTOS)

So yesterday I compiled a list of ladies who need to go back to the studio and of course miss Night Nurse just had to feature!!

This lady can belt like those vocal powerhouses we see in American Idols. More so, she re-branded when she started hosting a reggae show on radio which was opposite of what many people thought she’d do! Well she’s back on radio, on top of being a mother and she still looks smoking hot! Esh. You gotta ask her for her trainer’s number.

Well I decided to compile a photo gallery just to show y’all how on top of things this mega achiever is. She is after all the CEO of an entertainment company, Ital Entertainment. The pictures attest to that hotness I alluded to in the first paragraph. Lads and lasses, I present to you Tallia Oyando.

Team Forever Alone’s new anthem

This is the last article of mine today that’s mentioning twirra, I swear. Now y’all are familiar with hashtags right? Team Forever alone anyone????

#Teamforeveralone the song, was birthed out of a heartbreak that coincided with a sauti academy class assignment, where one had to write a song based on only four chords. Esh. The wound fresh, the assignment’s deadline imminent, it was only apt that CeeL feeds off the emotions sparked by the pain, and also title the song after the most obvious hasthtag. Thus #TeamForeverAlone.

No this song is not about fapping, it’s about a blistering heartbreak, the kind that has inspired poets and the biggest ballads ala unbreak my heart or I’ll always love you… the kind that speak of pain and cascading tears bla bla bla. Okay I’ m not too big on love. Sauti academy has this competition going on where it’s students post a video and the one with the most views gets a recording deal. Read about another group here.

Charles Lwande aka CeeL is a singer, songwriter, rapper, guitarist and poet. Heard of slam Africa? He was the 35th slam king. Heard of Nokia’s hiphop competition don’t break the beat? He was in the top 16 lot. The list goes on. Not only is he a student of Sauti academy, he’s also a member of the Kenya’s Boys Choir. This video is actually the first time that this song has been heard, so enjoy!! Oh I forgot to add that he’s also a 2nd year law student at JKUAT Karen Campus. Dude!

Is Media The Bane of Music Careers For These Ladies?

It’s obvious by now that I like to write about singers. Today, I take on singers who let music go to pursue seemingly ‘greener pastures’ namely lucrative media jobs.

Here’s a list of female singers that have that kinda tone that makes hairs in secret place stand on end.

Amina

It was reported that Amina of Homeboys has decided to let music take a back seat.(read here) This is surprising, considering that in my opinion, this lady has quite a voice on her.
My broken heart pondered on this ‘new’ development, and I realized she’s actually not the first to go down this road. It is as if once one gets into radio and by extension TV,  that sounds the death knell on that fledgling music career. Naomba serikali!!

Why Wasn't HBR's Amina In Jay-A's Video? Is There Bad Blood? Find Out!

Angela Angwenyi

This lady won a couple of awards, before she got into radio and that was the end of that! Sad thing she can really sing, as was evident when she’d break into song when it was time to wish someone a happy birthday. Somebody drag this lady back to the studio, a voice like that needs to permeate our airwaves!!! She’s back on telly btw, read about that here.

Angela Angwenyi Makes a Comeback on TV

Patricia Kihoro.

Although she was out of the country for three months touring Europe with the Out of Africa musical outfit, personally not much has been heeard of her since Project Fame. This girl is stunning, there is no denying that, and has charm for days!! Patricia,Y U No Sing???? She however did take part in this year’s Vagina Monologues, read about that here.

Patricia Kihoro

Sanaipei Tande

Although she recently released a video with Jua Cali titled mtoto wa Geti kali, when she was on radio, not much was heard from her. Now if you’ve heard Mulika Mwizi, her duet with Kidum, her adlibs are nothing short of ear-gasmic. This girl started her career in the now defunct Sema, Kenya’s group from that hugely marketed competition Cocacola posters. Her compatriots were Kevin and Pam, remember them? That was the same show that gave you Harry Kimani and Kaz, before she went to the inaugural project fame. She however quit radio so let’s pray that she spends her time in the studio booth where she rightfully belongs.

Sheila Mwanyigha aka Nikki

Nikki has that girly sound sound drives men nuts. Killer looks and an endearing personality to boot, it’s rather surprising that not much has been heard from her lately. She was a pioneer in the music industry and has quite the resume in the media. Which begs the question, why can’t she sing more and maximize on her networks to make herself the icon that I believe she is? I’m told she has a new song, if it’s anything like ‘ni we wako milele’, then I’ll be on the lookout for that.

sheila.jpg

Talia Oyando.

Wow. This girl knew accolades when she was a teenager, when she teamed up with Alma Tuju to sing that UNICEF anthem ‘Simama watu wote. If i’m not wrong, she won an Emmy. She was the voice behind the late Esir’s hamntishi, and Nyambane’s sweety banana, so there’s no denying that her infectious voice can hold Kenya ransom, musically speaking of-course. Now that she’s back on radio and is a first time mummy, I just feel my hopes wane. Again, naomba serikali!!

Did You Know That These Two Popular Entertainers Are Cousins?

Recently we did a piece about a family that has dominated the Kenyan entertainment industry as deejays, radio presenters, musicians and others. However, it has just emerged that two of Kenya’s popular entertainers are related by blood.

KTN STR8-Up live show host Miss Tamima and Kiss 100’s Evening Show Drive Shaffie Weru are cousins. The two have managed to keep that out of public limelight until not long ago. Tamima was recently hosted for an interview with Pulse magazine where she opened up on her life history. After telling you how she was bred in Kibera (or Kibra if you like), Tamima also revealed one of the best kept secrets; that she is related to Shaffie by blood.

Tamima is one of the few sassy TV sirens who are self-made and has come from a challenging background to be who she is today. Having been brought up in the sprawling ghetto slums by her grandmother, she had one of the worst childhoods but rose above that into a TV star.

Rabbit Pays Tribute To Fallen Musicians

After Nonini did a track revering departed loved ones, rapper Rabbit AKA Kaka Sungura has become the latest musician to release a song that honours deceased music icons as well as those who have been missing in action.

Dubbed “We Miss Them So Much” the song is a dedication to the lost souls of the people that made so much sense in our lives and had to disappear at some point. However, the song mostly talks about the pioneers in the Kenyan music industry.

Rabbit honors the likes of E-Sir, Poxxy Presha, K-Rupt, Lady S, Wiki Mosh, Angela Chibalonza, Drygin & Frakaz among others. Apart from the message in the track, Rabbit unveils a pristine music talent; the song introduces the mellow voiced singer by the name Nadu. Her powerful vocals in the hook does this track a great justice.

Ogopa Deejays Sabotaged By Former Employees

Ogopa Deejays is one of the top (if not the top) recording stables in the country going by number of artistes that have been nurtured there. However, in what may seem as sabotage on part of Ogopa Records, two of its former employees are alleged to be using the stable’s logo for their own benefit.

According to a source at Ogopa, one of the former main producers known as Philo attributed for producing hit tracks like Kigeugeu and resigned from the stable late last year, alongside another former bigwig Banda are supposedly still operating under the Ogopa logo long after they left the recording label.

It so happened that Philo and Banda bolted out of Ogopa to establish their own entity, Main Switch, a company that offers music recording and PA hire services and is said to already have made inroads in the industry, thanks to the know-how of its proprietors. The company has grown in leaps and bounds and could soon be giving Homeboyz a run for its cash. As a matter of fact, the duo has managed to entice singer Ringtone to vamoose from Ogopa and join them.

Well, that’s part of the game; however, Ogopa has taken issue with the way the two have unrelentingly used their logo for their commercial purposes and wants it to be known to their clientele that the two have no ties as far as business is concerned.

NEW MEME: Ruto Wept

Yesterday, William Ruto let it all out and bawled like a baby on national TV.

However, the reason why William wailed and wept was not clear to all. That is why we have decided to create the meme “Ruto Wept,” for the internets to describe what they thought was going through his head at that moment. Alternatively, you could also try describe what his wife was thinking, since her look was also priceless.

The template for the meme is here:

and you can create your own versions of the meme by clicking here: http://memegenerator.net/Ruto-Wept  (no login needed)

Here are some of the ones that have been created so far:

Ugliest Tweeps List sparks fiery debate on twitter (KOT)

The bible speaks of the tower of Babel, where a people united embarked on a monumental quest to build a skyscraper that could reach the heavens. The Lord incensed, taken aback by earthlings decided to intoxicate them with confusion, and that is where tribalism began. Okay I exaggerated.

Anyhew, the moral of the story is that a people united are indomitable, something very reminiscent of KOT (Kenyans on twitter). Recently, CNN has faced numerous scathing attacks from patriotic Kenyans who did not approve of the way the country was portrayed. That’s the good side. This weekend however, someone decided to post a list of the ugliest tweeps. Tweeps is the term relating to people on twitter, a portmanteau if you are an ignoramus. And some people decided to go ham on some of those people, heck there was even a TT hashtag, #SutiYaMint. And boy didn’t the claws come off!! I don’t know who Joyce Hood is, so I wasn’t gonna get caught up trashing someone I have never met. See that list here.

caro.jpg

Just a while ago, it was Mirfat of Tujuane who bore the brunt of the wrath of KOT. Read that here, even our dear Chimwani just couldn’t let that go! Need I remind you how last year Caroline Mutoko was ‘killed’, only to emerge bloody but unbowed with, wait for it, a hundred thousand plus new likes on her page thanks to the hatred. People, if you’re gonna hate on anyone, remember the word lanes. Very important. For example, Brian Mbunde, who by the way actively retweets all the twinsults hurled at him, reaps mega bucks from the same social media that ‘idlers’ use to taunt him. Before you go ham on me, ‘idlers’ is the term Caroline used to refer to people on social media, who have nothing better to do than post ‘nonsense’. He has no qualms about being called the ‘Dark Knight’, he revels in the attention. That’s what you get for hitting out at a top social media exec at Gina Din Corporation. Marinate on that. Remember Kenyans for Kenya campaign? He was involved in that. Dude even won best social media campaign for Crown Paints.

Oh, I don’t need to remind you that it was a 22 year old tweep who penned President Uhuru Kenyatta’s flagship speech. Jokes are fun, true, but before you get caught up in cyber hating, ask yourself if you’re gonna get a cheque at the end of the month for the time you’ve spent ‘airing your views.’

Top Kenyan Entertainers Set To Join Uhuru Kenyatta’s Government!

According to today’s Monday blues in the Standard, the top Kenyan celebrities and musicians who helped TNA elected into power seem to be about to reap the rewards of having made friends with the government of the day.

The lot are said to be primed for landing key political and government posts once the new government is formed. Machel Waikenda, the CEO of Blackstar Entertainment is said to be in line for a Parliamentary nomination slot and Big Ted (Thomas Kwaka) who was the moderator during rallies is said to have bagged himself a spot on the Presidential Press Service.

That means that Jaguar, Dennis Itumbi and DNG are also in line for appointments. And Jaguar was quoted as having spoken candidly for the first time about why he chose to support TNA and he said, “I supported Jubilee campaigns as i believed in it’s policies. I am ready to work with the new government and help achieve the promises we gave the youth.”

Whatever happened to just wanting to entertain his fans at the rally?

Is K24 Set To Become The Strongest Media House In Kenya After Uhuru’s Win?

Under the patronage of the Kibaki administration, Citizen rose to prominence. But they have more to thank their CEO Wachira Waruru for than political patronage. He is the man who held the reigns of the company and led it to their current topspot.

But be that as it may, they still cannot understate the importance Kibaki’s regime had over their rise and rise. And now that they chose to side with CORD which has lost the elections, this position may just be in danger. See, before the elections had even begun, Citizen was having a torrid time dealing with the CCK. You can read more about that from this link.

Then K24 which did the exact opposite begun to poach Citizen’s talents. Both those infront of your screens and those behind the screens. Both technical and bureaucratic staff. With that, it would seem the stage is set for the two media houses to begin their dance with the devil so to speak. they about to engage in a battle for supremacy.

Or maybe it’s just my imagination running wild. but i doubt it. The question is; Will K24 rise to prominence under the UhuRuto political dispensation? Will Citizen’s woes continue and become even more daunting or will the seas ahead calm down? Only time will tell but i do believe we are in for one epic battle for supremacy!

What Next For Citizen TV After CORD’s Loss?

This question has everyone at the office jittery. Citizen were brave. They took a stand. They gambled and they lost. And after they announced that they were CORDed, there was a suspicious onslaught against them… Or maybe the conspiracy theorist in me is acting up… Nay! They were being punished. That is Uncle Chim Tuna’s opinion.

We did a Ghafla! discussion in which i postulated that the Kibaki administration helped propel Citizen to the fore of Kenya’s media services. But don’t get me wrong, that isn’t to detract from Wachira Waruru’s business acumen. It’s just how Uncle Chim Tuna sees things.

Then Citizen got christened CORD TV and now they are left holding a potentially stinking steaming heap of manure. The question in everybody’s mind is, will the Uhuru administration be a vindictive one? Will they continue to pile on Citizen’s legal woes like the sadistic child that pokes at a fly with a toothpick after plucking it’s wings?

This saga seems to have entered a new intriguing chapter that will see K24 be propelled into prominence and battle it out with Citizen for dominance. Afterall, they have poached Citizen’s top talents but i wouldn’t count Citizen out yet -read about who got poached by clicking this link. Wachira Waruru’s business savvy shouldn’t be counted out just yet!

Meet The Writer Of Uhuru’s Acceptance Speech.

Twitter was set ablaze yesterday, when it emerged that the writer of President Uhuru’s acceptance speech is a twenty two year old. *Jaw drops to the floor*

Yes, I said it, 22 yr old Julie Wang’ombe is the wordsmith that weaved that tapestry of words into existence. At 22, this accomplished poet and spoken word artist has done what many only dream of, pen the maiden speech that a nation’s leader breaks the ice with. Read the speech here.

julie_2.jpg

Of course haters will hate, as was the case, but hey, what did you do at twenty two? That my friends is the pertinent question. Some people are born with greatness, other have it thrust upon them, for others, they keep doing it well, until the rest of humanity bears witness to the greatess they possess. I’m done waxing lyrical.

Her bio reads “Having discovered Spoken Word Poetry at 18 during Slam Africa events that took place in Westlands (2009) she embarked on a mission to create her own poetry realizing for the first time that poetry was extremely flexible and did not have to rigidly conform to a certain format.
In 2009 she left Nairobi, having graduated from Hillcrest Secondary School, to attend Duke University. While there, she encountered several other performing artists including Joshua Benne, a visiting poet, who continued to inspire her.

julie_4.jpg

She focused on other activities while in her first year but never let go of the desire to write and perform poetry. It was in Duke influenced by the discourse on development she encountered within the classroom and the stereotypes of Africa(ns) she encountered without- that she wrote the poem “Call Me Africa”: a poem aimed at balancing out the “single story” of Africa, Celebrating Africa and inspiring other African students. This poem which saw her perform at the TED International Talent Search; Africa Governance Leadership and Management Convention and Acumen Fund’s Innovate conference..”

Kenyans Let CNN Know They Are Angry With The Media Coverage Of Kenya’s Elections!

It started on twitter. Kenyans who were tired of the negative news that was being transmitted by CNN let them know that they weren’t too pleased. and that is putting it mildly. Kenyans on Twitter let the shots ring and none were blank. But CNN didn’t budge. Read about their refusal to issue an apology here.

But now the fire has caught Facebook. Kenyans have taken to bombarding CNN’s fanpage with angry remarks telling them off for their arrogant and skewed reporting of Kenya’s recently concluded election.

The folk on twitter will happily call the Facebook lot slow and indeed, this move comes a couple of days if not weeks after K.O.T tore into CNN but as i would wisely put it, it doesn’t matter. The Kenyans on Facebook have taken to barraging CNN and you too can get in on the action by clicking this link.

Here’s a sample of what Kenyans are telling CNN:

Mula G Njira
The construction site outside my office is making a lot of noise, I think it is “Violence in Kenya”, care send some of your bored reporters over?

Elijar Chesiyna Jr.
you should be concentrating on reporting the truth rather than paying some guyz to “act”, in some shity done footage

Dennis Joseph Wambugu
CNN there is a God who Kenya prays to his name is Jesus and he is the Prince of peace, and he has given us peace. deal with it

Tom Kabanya
And you waited and waited and waited!!it just didnt happen!!There was absolute PEACE in Kenya!!and for that retardof a reporter who did a report on Kenyans arming themselves. . . . .IDIOTA!

Grace Kamau
its looks like u wanted some war to happen in our country so u get news to report.its not cool of u reportin fake things about Kenya, its my country I live there so if u don’t know whats happening don’t write nonsense.we will never fight and u know why,its not because of u or anyone else but its coz we have to protect our country from guys like u.we are peaceful, better yet we are united more than ever before

XYZ Wins Best Television Series In Africa

XYZ’s seems hellbent on shining and I for one can’t wait to see the heights they scale this year.

Last week, Ghafla’s own Jeff gave you the story of Marie Lora-Mungai. Marie is the co-founder and CEO of Buni TV and Buni Media. Read that here. Today, well I get to announce a new accolade, Best Television Series at the just concluded Inaugural Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards held in Lagos Nigeria. Accolades have been pouring since this historic win and I had to join the bandwagon!

xyz_pic.jpg

XYZ has of late taken their show a notch higher since launching their seventh season, so this must be a welcome pat on the back, or the proverbial thumbs up. Again, I congratulate the Buni TV team for the amazing job they are doing. They have taken satire to a whole new level.

Why Wasn’t HBR’s Amina In Jay-A’s Video? Is There Bad Blood? Find Out!

If you don’t know the video in question, then you are probably from some back water region of… Wait, you have no excuse for not knowing the video because Ghafla keeps you informed! Use the internets! But if you know the video in question; “On Me”, let us proceed.

Amina did the hook. But when the video was released, she was nowhere to be seen on it. That raised alot of eyebrows. And then the song and video went on to become chart toppers. That in itself is enough to ignite a clash of egos.

But when asked during an interview with Buzz whether there is any bad blood, she first clarified that what transpired is on her and her alone. she spent that day sleeping and her phone was off. This is how she said her piece:

“Yes about that. Contrary to what everyone has been saying my not being in the video had nothing to do with my religion. It was simply because Boomba kept postponing the date for the video shoot. On the day they actually ended up doing it, i was at home asleep and my phone was off for most of that day. By the time i woke up, i found a bunch of missed calls and texts and they notified me that the video was done.”

You snooze, you loose it seems. But find out how Amina got into doing music in the first place by clicking this link.

William Ruto Weeps And Wails On National TV!

Ladies and gentlemen, fellow countrymen, did you catch William Samoei Ruto crying and bawling his eyes out at church after his election victory?

I was touched to see someone painted as Machiavellian by the international media show a softer side to him. Don’t know how i feel about seeing a man crying though… But this one incident was touching. He was at the podium with his wife and he was showing God gratitude for his win when he broke down.

GHAFLA POLL RESULTS: Was Your Vote Influenced By Celebs?

Last week i posed the question to all of you: Was your vote influenced by celebs? And the outcome leaves nothing to doubt. The response was as unanymous as Nithi’s votes:

It would seem that most of you don’t care what Kenya’s celebrities have to say and do in as far as Kenyan politics is concerned. There is no Jay Z who can boast of having helped get Kenya’s 4th president elected. Here’s how the chips lay:

Ghetto Radio’s Hot Presenters Go After Huddah Monroe!

Huddah Monroe is sexy. She has that raw sexual magnetism that’s undeniable. But she is also no stranger to controversy. Why? Well, she’s an extrovert who speaks her mind. That is usually a recipe for beef.

And this time the people taking shots at her are the ladies of Ghetto Radio. Liz Njuguna and Mary Kinyanjui. Oh yeah, and Liz Njuguna is the lass who was chased by some randy man wearing a condom just last week. Read about that here. Anyway, these are the ladies who made me realize that the ghetto just may be the way to go for someone who appreciates the female form like me.

They are in a word beautiful. But today, they aren’t dainty flowers, they have donned armour and are flying into battle like valkaries. and they have their eyes set on Huddah Monroe. The main bone of contention is the fact that she dissed Dandora and Kayole while defending Madharau Mirfat. And that has earned Huddah their wrath.

Check out what they had to say in what i think was an open letter posted on the Ghetto Radio site:

“Some guys are really getting bored with the prolonged election period and at this rate stupidity levels are on the rise. Be careful you might contract some on the social media since that is where everyone has shifted their attention to.

This article specifically addresses the “Tujuane” Ndrama that died “last year” being used as a means to climb to lost fame – Stupidity 101.

Fine, Janet Mbugua writing about the Tujuane issue, now blown out of proposition, was justified considering the fact that she was addressing “Cyber-bullying”. After that media personalities thought it was okay to give their two cents on the issue but that’s a story for another day.

Back to the stupidity at hand, you might recognize her from nowhere, unless you have a twitter account and you unfortunately clicked the follow button by mistake (no judgment).

Huddah Monroe famed for “tweefing” (for those who don’t know, its beef on twitter) saw it fit to insult our boyz’ from Dandora and Kayole courtesy of supporting the “Diva from South C”.

Now, am not sure if this was intentional or it’s her new found way of seeking attention by INSULTING people on twitter, case in point her beef with a local daily, fellow socialite Vera aka Miss Booty not forgetting the Safaricom’s Facebook queen of the year Shiru Waruinge e.t.c.

So miss-attention-hungry Huddah decided, “mmmmmmmh people are forgetting all about me and focusing on the bloody elections, let me stir up some ndrama.” (Terenteren). So she took to Twitter and “endorsed” her fellow Diva saying “Y’all callin her South C Diva….when y’all are Dandora and Kayole niggas..Stay in ur lane.If u can’t handle the heat, get outta the kitchen!”

TweefSweetie, just coz you have the looks (which is highly debatable once you open your mouth) does not mean you can go trash talking anyone ati coz you are “The Mboss lady”. Besides you’re stale… Miss Booty has taken over, but, you can always feed on her left overs since you’re desperate for some kind of attention.

On the other hand, if you want attention, keep posing naked, you are very..very good at it. Leave the Ghetto dudes alone shorty, you can’t handlethem. Or if you think you can, come out of the confines of your cosy home, board a 41/42, alight at the final stage and express yourself. PS..Tell us how that goes, if you survive to tell the tale.

Thank you.

By the way, to all the ladies out there keeping it real without the unnecessary drama, Happy International Women’s Day!!!!

LIZ AND MARY”

Amina’s Short But Successful Music Journey

With news of Amina quitting music, we take a look at her short but very fruitful stint in the career; her journey in the music scene.

Born 25 years ago, Amina’s love for music started as early as 1995 when she just in Standard One. Having been born in a staunch Muslim family, Amina reveals that she has always wanted to do music but because of her religion, she has always taken a backseat. Her parents, being strict as they are, have also always nudged her to take a different career path; law or diplomacy. According to her, she “just stumbled on music”.

Back in her earlier years, Amina says that she would cram songs from cassette tapes and his dad would get her karaoke machines and mics which she would use to perform for her family and friends. “I always wanted to be a singer but it just never really happened until recently”, divulges the talented singer/radio presenter.

So just how did she get into professional singing? It happened that after getting absorbed by Homeboyz, the people she interacted with pointed out that she had a great voice and could actually make a good singer. She then went ahead to do a few projects but once again the “religion factor” would haunt her making her chicken out from releasing the music.

However, her break finally arrived when producer Dillie came calling. At that time, Dillie was working on a project for Jay A and approached Amina to do a hook and it came out so well that he quickly recorded it lest the tune was forgotten. And as expected, when Jay A heard it he loved it and that’s how “On Me” was created.
Immediately after, Amina did another collabo with K-Letta in the song, “Paint The Town Red” which like “On Me” took over the charts by storm. Though the video is not yet out, the song has become a huge success. Amina’s latest project is “Swag”, a music video she was featured in by rapper Octopizzo and released on the first day of the year.

Amina, like any other singer, has also had her down moments in the music industry. Before doing a collabo with K-Letta, Amina had done another song with another musician but they had disagreements and decided not to release it. She has also come under fire from some artists for her roles in different music projects. Notably, Cabu Gah and most recently Bamboo’s younger bro, rapper Kimya.

[Buzz]

Amina Quits Music

Yes, you read right. The fun-loving and talented HBR presenter Amina Abdi is quitting music. This is a blow to her fans that had begun identifying with her music having been done music with Octopizzo, K-Letta and the fast-rising Jay A.

Amina dropped the bombshell when she spoke to Boniface Mwalii of Buzz. Asked what her future music plans were, Amina shockingly said that she does not want to venture into music anymore. Reason? Too much negativity. In her words, “I love singing but I don’t want to deal with all the negativity that comes with it.” Perhaps Amina is not able to endure the chiding from the likes of Cabu Gah and Kimya who have attacked her most recently (read the stories HERE and HERE).

She also revealed that she’s leaving music to get on TV. “Well, I’ve been offered a role as a co-host for a new feature on MNet’s Mashariki Mix Show”, disclosed the 25-year-old radio presenter adding, “I’m really excited about this since I will be able to engage a continental audience.”

One thing is certain though; her love for music is unrelenting having grown up listening to music icons like Shania Twain, Mariah Carey, the late Whitney Houston, Joe among others. She also started singing at a tender age and eventually ended up doing music that has gain acceptance among Kenyan audience.

HBR’s Amina Sets The Record Straight On Boyfriend Rumours!

You know her as the voice on the hook of Jay-a’s smash hit “On Me”. She’s the voice on the hook of Octo’s “Swag”. She’s also the angelic voice on K-Letta’s “Paint The Town Red”. and Jeff Omondi has told you about her quiting music. Read about that by clicking on this link.

But what has been elusive is factual information on her relationship status. I’ve known all along that she was dating some lucky anonymous lad. but then rumours begun to circle about her being with K-Letta.

K-Letta exclusively told the Pulse that he was dating her HomeBoyz Radio comrade Mwalimu Sonnie. And Amina has also come out to dispel the rumours about her dating the rapper.

And when asked by Buzz where the rumours could possibly have originated from, her response was: “What? No! I never understood where that came from. Is it because i did a song with him? Because by the same virtue, i also did a song with Jay A and Octopizzo. I’m not dating anyone that  anyone knows!”

So there you have it.

Abduba Dida Is Solid Evidence That The TV Presidential Debate Works

If there’s one lesson Kenyans can derive from the Dida phenomena, is that television debates and social media conversations do work!!

I mean, before that presidential debate was televised (read about it here), I honestly had never heard of Mr Abduba. After the debate, he was a permanent fixture on my Facebook and Twitter timelines what with the countless memes that were being churned out of him!!

Well by emerging number five and beating well know presidential candidates, Mr Dida has proved to us all that indeed being memorable goes a a long way in leaving an indelible mark in the minds of Kenyan voters! I personally look forward to seeing him reach greater political heights, I mean this man came off as really in touch with the needs of Wanjiku. In one fell swoop he moved from being unknown to the darling of Kenyans on social media and cementing his place on Kenya’s top conversations of 2013. That my friends is called winning!!

Size 8 is Now Julie Gichuru’s Brand Ambassador

When “mimi” was launched in the already saturated fashion market, few would bet that it would be compete effectively with the “big boys” for the market share. However, few months down the line, Julie Gichuru’s online shop seems to be making inroads in the fashion industry.

Already, the brand is getting recognition and acceptance thanks to its exclusivity and user-friendliness (online). Sometime last month, we told you about how Size 8 had entered into a deal with the proprietors of “mimi” to endorse their products. Few weeks later, the sassy singer is featured on Pulse Magazine doing just that.

Last week Size 8 was Sylvia Njoki’s (Pulse’s stylista) guest where she explained how “mimi” was an all-round store that caters for all your fashion needs; from official wear to evening wear and even casual attires.

Check out Size 8 donning the dresses;

You MUST Watch This Especially Now

Already so much has been done to ensure that there’s peace in the country after pre and post-polls in the country. So far we are doing good but still we need to keep calm no matter who wins the presidency.

With Ciku Muiruri urging for calm this morning, comedian Churchill has taken the same path and marshaled a section of the fans who attended the last recording of the Churchill Show alongside the comedians under his wings to urge fellow Kenyans to maintain peace during this electioneering period.

Here’s his message to you;

Kenya is bigger than anyone else; not even our 2 leading presidential candidates. Irrespective of whoever wins, let’s keep peace. We voted peacefully, lets continue maintaining that peace. Your comedians are keeping peace; More peace, More laughter!

Former BBA Contestant Explains How Her Political Detractors Tried To Release Her Explicit Photos

This is how Millicent announced through Twitter that she had won the Ziwani seat, “I have won my election. I am now your new County Ward Rep of Ziwani. Thank you.”

Well earlier today, she let us know that some of her political detractors tries to use a smear campaign to ensure that she did not clinch that seat!! Now, I never watched Big Brother when she was in the house so I can’t attest to anything, but if my memory serves me right, shower hour was scrapped, right?

Well, some of her ‘enemies’ tried to spread alleged pictures of her taking a shower to show that she was not a bastion of morality thus unfit to lead. Wow, I hear my voices screaming ‘ni kama vindeoo ni kama ndramaa!!!” Who results to such uncouth tactics? Really? Then again I’ve never really contested for anything so I can’t really know what it’s like to be in the hot seat politically. All the same I wish her welll, she clearly emerged ‘bloody’ but unbowed. Kudos for winning the seat.

Read that story about her win here.

Renowned Poet Highlights International Women’s Day Celebrations in Arusha

As other celebs marked the International Women Day by dedicating goodwill messages to their loved ones and we at Ghafla celebrating “our queens”, one of Kenya’s greatest daughters is miles away in Tanzania marking the day in a special way.

Arusha Poetry Club in conjunction with Alliance Francaise, Njiro – Arusha will tonight host Kenyan Poet, Sitawa Wafula, best known for her use of poetry for advocacy, as the guest act at International Women’s Day celebration this Friday 8th March.

The free event starts at 8pm and will see Sitawa use her poetry to take the audience through her life; rape ordeal and living with mental health disorders, as well as highlight other forms of violence against women and success stories including her own and those of women she has interacted with.

Among the pieces she will perform include Rise up and Dance which was inspired by her participation in this year’s, Vday celebration on February 14th and is in line with this year’s theme.

Kenyans Get Creative With The Presidential Tally (Photos)

Just like Kenyans got creative with the Presidential debate, the same minds are at it again. On this day when the rest of the country is watching closely and awaiting with bathed breathe the final tally of the presidential results, this group of Kenyans have decided to reduce the tension through the creativity.

When the electoral body, IEBC, announced that the leading contenders still had votes from their strongholds yet to be tallied, the creative descended on the story and created funny pictures that depicted just important the votes could favour the respective candidate. Take a look;

Nonini Becomes The First Ever Official Top Facebook Artist in East Africa

Nonini’s star seems to be rising higher every single day. Just a week after landing a high-flying job, the rapper or “rapreneur” as he likes to refer to himself has yet again achieved another honour setting the bar even higher for his competitors.

According to a new survey Nonini is the most popular East African musician on Facebook. The survey titled ‘East Africa’s Top 50 Artists on Facebook was conducted by HiPipo 5Star, involving close monitoring of Facebook pages of more than 150 East African musicians for four months.

The report shows that Nonini’s official page has the biggest number of fans of about 91,650 Likes, followed by Wahu (Kenya) with about 83,356 Likes while Jua Cali Genge (Kenya) comes third with 80,224 Likes.

Nonini becomes that first ever official No.1 Top Artist on Facebook, in East Africa followed by Wahu in the second position. This survey was authentically done basing on each Artiste’ Facebook following, with evaluation done, starting from the impact on daily activity and fans reactions.

The survey analyzed each artiste’s Official Facebook Page impact, aggregating number of likes, Social activity such as shares, likes, comments and viral impact of page posts among other factors. Furthermore, this survey found out that more than 86% of the artists don’t regularly update their pages and also lack basic tips on what content is ideal, and how to share it to their fans.

On International Women’s Day We Celebrate Ghafla’s Queens!

Today is International world Women’s day and i figure that because the rest of the year save for Valentines we celebrate Chim, why not take the time to celebrate the contribution of Ghafla’s queens?

We have Nali Sharon the cheeky strong willed, pigheaded lass who spends most of her time contradicting me. But as they say in Swahili, “Wapiganao ndio wapendanao”. I’m just saying that her aggro towards me seems very dodgy.

Then there’s Imbuhila. Our HR manager. She is a thorough one this! No nonsense type of lass who gets the job done in a timely and efficient manner. And to top it all off, she handles our legal matters. Why do you think Uncle Chim has never been sued? It’s because we have a shark on the team. But the way she hounds me, i suspect more than diligence… Something sinister may be afoot. Something to do with emotions *shudder*.

And then there is Cinju Muiruri who handles our accounts. I’d talk about how i catch her staring at me but i just might lose teeth. But she has somehow managed to put order into Ghafla’s chaotic accounts… Like only a woman could!

And finally ladies and gents, what should i say about this one?

Pretty, isn’t she? Thankfully, there are no sinister motives here.
