Top Female Gospel Artist Asks Whether It’s Okay To Play Gospel Tracks in Bars

You will agree you party animals that more often than not most if not all deejays will play at least one Gospel jam in their sets in night clubs, true? The most played songs if my memory serves me correctly are Esther Wahome’s ‘Kuna Dawa’ and Ruth Wamuyu’s ‘Amukira Gatho’ which is a good thing in my opinion because the Word of God is not meant for saints rather for the sinners, yeah?

However now, Gospel singer Geraldine Oduor famed for her tracks ‘Wewe ni Mungu’, ‘Msaada Wangu’ and most recently, ‘Napenda’ featuring Tanzanian Gospel songstress, Christina Shusho; has asked a question that most people are afraid to ask; Is it bad, good, not so good, okay or not quite alright for christian spiritual songs to be played in a bar or to be danced by drunkards?

Here’s her full statement;

Somebody help me here. I completed a music album then met this dear man of God who encouraged & prayed with me.

My point is, as he prayed, he asked God to cover the songs, that they would not be songs to be danced or played in a bar or any drinking place. I noted that he was very sincere in his prayers, but to date, I’m not sure my position on the same as overtime i have got mixed feelings and reactions.

Is it bad, good, not so good, okay or not quite alright for Christian spiritual songs to be played in a bar or to be danced by drunkards? I sincerely need some help & counsel from sincere persons/children of God here.

What’s your take kindly?

And so, I also ask, What is your take on this?

Gospel Concert At Mamlaka Chapel To Raise Funds For Bright Needy Students!

Events are a dime a dozen in this town, but very few have charity as their core purpose. The father’s heart however, is a cut above the rest. Read about it below and see why you should attend this event.

The Kinyua Ngeera Education Foundation presents: “The Father’s Heart: My Story”, a worship concert.
Why “The Father’s Heart”? We pay fees for bright needy students through High School (and develop leaders), not because we swim in monetary abundance, but because we understand the Father’s Heart (God) for the needy in society. With the little He’s blessed us with, we seek to bless others. That’s at the core of the gospel of Christ. Why “My Story”? Because each of us has a story… of where God took us from, of where He is taking us… a story of why we give, why we help, why we LOVE… the Salvation Story-the greatest love story. His abundant love is what drives us.

As God wills, join us at Mamlaka Hill Chapel on 5th May 2013, from 3pm – 5pm as we tell this story, as we worship the King of kings, as we raise support and create awareness on the Foundation’s initiatives.

Tickets go for KES 350 advance, KES 500 at the gate.
Ticket hotlines: 0704 099 462, 0720 241 300

What to expect: a beautiful time of worship, great music, poetry, dance… all brought to you by KNEF in partnership with some of the most gifted Christian artistes in Nairobi.Directed by Phillip Wambua, this concert promises to be one that you don’t wanna miss!
If you enjoyed last year’s edition “Touching Heaven, Changing Earth”, and the 2011 edition, “My Life, My Love, My All”, Then you will be BLOWN AWAY by “The Father’s Heart: My Story”

Proceeds from the concert go towards financing the Foundation’s primary objective; paying fees for bright needy students in high school.

If you are a gospel music aficionado, you know Zidi the Band. They are the guys that gave you Kiumbe Kipya, Nimkimbilie nani, Motisha and Breathe again! They  team up with Adawnage band as an outfit dubbed Ziada that sets to bring people back to the heart of worship. Zidi organizes concerts through which fans can enjoy quality live music. Our once -every two months- concert dubbed Kivuli, is held in different areas within Nairobi. The name Kivuli is coined from Psalms 91:1- He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty- thus the word shadow translated to Swahili- Kivuli. Kivuli has been like a showcase of Zidi’s latest compositions, though we also use it as a platform to elevate upcoming artists whose genres have a resemblance to our music.

We have also taken this concept to Mombasa ‘Kivuli at Sunset’. We also look forward to having Kivuli concerts in other cities/ towns within Kenya.

Calendar
Our calendar is packed with weddings which fall on random dates. However, our Kivuli concerts run once every two months.

This one shall be held this sunday from 3.00 to 6.00 pm, and entry is absolutely free. Featured artistes shall be Sylvia and Mwanga band. To get to ICC, pick any matatu plying the Mombasa road route and ask to alight at ICC West church, or Coast Bus stage, after Nyayo stadium.

Scathing Open Letter To Robert Alai: The “Tribal Blogger”!

I stumbled across this blog piece done by Nyakundi Cyprian and is directed to Robert Alai. I’ve decided to share it unedited. Enjoy the read:

let me school Robert Alai – The Tribal ” Blogger ”

Here comes a grandfather  who calls himself voice of the voiceless . Maybe he is voice of the voiceless of the ” Pigs ” the term that he likes to use. This grandfather of twitter is  the kind of person that Kenya does not need.

Maybe you were taught about Gadgets and spitting hate and trash. The same Alai is a Kind of person many Kenyans Follow to Know how people tweet trash. I don’t hate him but I just wonder why a big man like him should spend all his  ” meaningful “  time gossiping about married people/people better than him . Alai ,I  insist go and raise a Family because you don’t know who you are fighting for. You are becoming an insult to the world of creation .Robert Onyango Alai will call you a pig if you disagree with him and even shamefully  block you from seeing his trash yet the aim was to  ” fight ” for you ” the weak ” . Seriously, tribalism is an issue in Kenya and it is a concern to all of us. We can agree that there is unequal distribution of resources and some tribes are dominating various positions in the Ministries . This does not guarantee Alai an opportunity to hate a certain tribe .

Just sample Alai’s numerous  tweets and compare his hate on Kikuyus. I think a Kikuyu snatched his Girlfriend hence the hate. We will start a campaign to tell the one who took his girlfriend to give him back and maybe that will give him a life. My friend Alai , you are like Australopithecus  using a computer and we the current generation have to school you .I say Australopithecus because we don’t expect a grown up Kenyan man like you to behave like a “pig ” the same term you like to shamelessly  use. If you want to fight tribalism you can not use a computer to preach about it . I am also in the process of fighting it and I have started with my University ( Meru University ) where I talk about it and its effects and it is achieving some progress. I insist your tweets cannot solve tribalism issues in this beautiful country of ours  . Go to the ground. I wish you achieved higher Education and learn this because your ignorance is shaming even your followers * Face palm  * .

Alai also wants people to be raped . In short Alai wants women to be raped ,You pig ,  if your mother mistreated you when you were young don’t wish bad things to happen to other women. Rape is bad and it may make some people kill themselves. Since you seem to be like a brainless monitor lizard   and an attention whore we let you spit your trash , we will use them to educate people how trash looks like.I also wonder why ugly people behave this way ! please Alai be yourself, you were created in the image of God. We can give you a Bible to read and confirm that  if you lack one !!! Seriously !

Alai also thinks that we are competing him on social media. We know social media is your full time job unlike most of us who social media is our part time Job. So don’t feel threatened but know that it is shameful to have blogged for five years  and lack a decent living. Wise bloggers are somewhere .#JustAThought

Sometimes you have some sense in what you tweet but most of your  tweets are like following a slum sewage . Know that Kenya is moving ahead and we the young generation are killing and nipping tribalism at the bud  . Most of my friends are Kikuyus, Luos ( Where I was in for my high school education ) Luhyas and many others.

Last word is to advice you to know who you are fighting for and have a life Stop swimming in the murky sea of apathy and naivety Mr Grandfather   . Thank you

Is This A Demon Or A Cat? (Video)

Depending on where you come from you either believe in the existence of demons or you completely don’t accept as true presence of demons better known as “mademoni” is some political quarters. Well, recently, a domestic cat in Mombasa caused a stir in some middle-aged man’s homestead for suspicion of being a demon.

The domestic cat is in fact facing the prospect of a cruel death after getting its head trapped in a Jerry-can. Residents of Loma village in Kiembeni, Mombasa, are unwilling to release the cat on suspicion that it might be a demon.

Is it a demon or just an innocent domestic cat that got its head trapped in the jerry-can and was unable to retrieve it? Watch the video below courtesy of KTN and be the judge;

Photos: ‘Otonglo’ Boy Taken On A Tour Of State House By The President Himself

Highway Secondary’s Daniel Owira better known as ‘Otonglo’ boy is without a doubt the man of the moment. It all started at State House in Mombasa when the Form Two student and his crew performed their prize-winning narrative “Otonglo” that left the President Uhuru Kenyatta in stitches.

Yesterday, the President cleared the boy’s fees up to University level and promised to alleviate his family’s condition. After that, the President took Owira on a tour of the State House. Take a look;

The film is a psychological thriller in which the protagonist is compelled to confront his own brutal nature and face the consequences of his actions. Her parents are rural shopkeepers serving the local black community, who lovingly bring her up as their ‘white’ little girl. But at the age of ten, Sandra is driven out of white society. President Uhuru “Adopts” ‘Otonglo’ Boy

It all started during the National Drama Festivals. Little did ‘Otonglo’ narrator, Daniel Owira know that he would be performing before the President and leave him in stitches. However, behind this talented actor lay a huge school fees arrears that stared at him prompting NTV’s Larry Madowo to set-up an M-Pesa paybill number to assist the Highway Secondary student continue with his studies uninterrupted. It is then that Jaguar came on board and cleared Owira’s fee, but it seems more was to follow.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has offered full education sponsorship to Daniel Owira, the form two Highway Secondary School student who moved the audience to tears during the Kenya National Drama Festival State concert in Mombasa.

Speaking when he meet Daniel at State House Nairobi today, President Kenyatta said he will pay for his school fees up to and including the university level.

The President said he will be monitoring closely the education progress of the Highway Secondary School student.

“You are now one of my sons. Make sure you give me your report form every end of the term,” President Kenyatta said.

Saying he will move Daniel out of the slums and enroll him as a boarder in his current school, the Head of State urged Daniel to aim at developing his acting talents as he pursues his education.

Said the President: “As I educate you, make sure you do well but do not stop your theatrical work and co-curricular activities.”

The President also assured Daniel’s mother Ms Rose Owiyo that he will revive and revitalize her business. President Kenyatta added that he will support Daniel’s elder sister Susan who works as a volunteer assisting
girls in the slums.

After the meeting, President Kenyatta conducted Daniel on a tour of State House.

Have an awesome day! Keep it Ghafla!

Photo-Activist Boniface Mwangi Roughed Up By Security At Labour Day Celebrations For Heckling Atwoli

Award-winning Kenyan photojournalist making a name for his social-political activism, Boniface Mwangi has just been arrested at Uhuru Park during the Labour Day Celebrations for shouting down COTU boss Francis Atwoli.

Atwoli had just taken to the stage to deliver his speech when Boniface shouted, “Msaliti” and that’s when “security details”, rather shop stewards pounced on him, roughing him up as they whisked him away as the COTU boss urged them to “deal with him thoroughly.”

Boniface has been strongly opposing Atwoli’s stance to have Members of Parliament get more pay. Prior to the ceremony, Boniface had made it clear that he will be “standing up for what he believes in” in a string of tweets;

@bonifacemwangi: Today is a beautiful day to overcome fear and stand up for what you believe is right.”

@bonifacemwangi: Kenya is unequal society. We are been rained on while the people we elected are sitted cosily. #LabourDay

Meanwhile, the #KOT are pushing to have the photo-activist released under the tag #FreeBonifaceMwangi as reports indicate that he is being held at the Parliament Police Station.
