The 254 Anthem Launch By Nick Mutuma As It Happened!

Media personality, actor/ radio presenter and now rapper, finally launched his much anticipated video last Friday. The epic event was graced by the who’s who of Nairobi’s artsy landscape.

Media personalities, actors, designers, models and industry players, heeded Nick’s Clarion call to celebrate the 254 anthem release. That event was dubbed “This is 254” experience, with the emcee of the night being actor and tv personality Ian Mugoya. The Chill spot presenter Nick Mutuma, finally launched the video to his debut song which features the very capable vocalist Lyra Aoko. Watch that video here.

Lyra broke into the limelight, when she emerged winner of the Samsung Ziki stars which seeks to capture latent talent in Kenya’s tertiary institutions. The glizy affair which was an RSVP affair was encapsulated in film. As I shared here, click on those images to see the beautiful people in attendance. The venue was ofcourse Skyluxx Lounge. See the rest of those pictures here.

Some of those in attendance included Str8 Up’s Ian Mugoya, Capital Fm’s Anita Nderu, Miss Kenya USA Angela Muiruri, actor Daniel Peter Weke, Celebrated Photographer Kevin Kemama who took the amazing pictures, Model/designer Ephy Saint and Model designer Bridgette Shighadi. The director of the video was also in attendance, Mr A. Macharia himself. If you still don’t know who he is, read why Jaguar and Sauti Sol as well as American Young Jeezy chose him to direct their videos.

The video shows Nick Mutuma cruising around Nairobi, showcasing the beauty of the city lit by the night’s splendour. Known for his teen-centred radio show on 91.5 hits as well as his acting forays thanks to MTV’s Shuga & MNET’s Changes, Nick Mutuma decided to take a plunnge into another facet of art and do music. The risk seems to be paying off, as the song received a lot of love not only on social media but in the media in terms of airplay. The obviously talented rapper has also been dabbling in fashion lately, organizing events with industry mainstays as well as upcoming designers. His girlfriend Bridgitte is not only a celebrated model but also a budding fashion designer.

The video features cameos by radio powerhouse Shaffie Weru who gives it an interesting prelude. The song was produced by Singer/producer Ulopa Ngoma who is behind some of the biggest songs in Kenya. Nick Mutuma says of the video, “I believe in perfection, which is the main reason I’ve taken so long to release this video, I wanted something I could look back at in 10 years and smile, an international product.”He explained. Why he dubbed the video launch The 254 Experience is because he believes that this video is his way of  celebrating Kenya’s coming of age.

See How Nick Mutuma’s Video Launch Went Down! (Photos)

Yesterday I shared with you the video to Nick Mutuma’s debut release 254 anthem. The launch, attended by the who’s who was captured in film.

The man behind those awesome images is Kevin Kemama, of Kevin Kemama photography, I’ll share some of those images with you so you can envisage how it went down. Check the rest of them at his page. This is 254 emceed by Ian Mugoya was clearly awesome, RSVP events never disappoint! Watch that video here if you haven’t, and read about the launch here.

The song 254 anthem was produced by Ulopa Ngoma, with the video directed by Andrew Macharia of Razorwire Production. The chorus was voiced by Lyra Aoko. The venue for this launch was Skyluxx Lounge. The pictures like I notified you, were shot by the very awesome Kevin Kemama, I’m sure you nod in agreement when I say those images are very crisp.

Of-course the most surprising news of the evening is that Churchill aka Mwalimu King’ang’i will be on stage to tickle the audience into uncontrollable laughter! Here’s a Hint On Who is Going For Big Brother To Rep Kenya!

Today I think I will give you a hint on who will be representing Kenya in the Big Brother. this will be the first time Kenya’s leading authoritative and reliable entertainment site will be weighing in on the matter.

But before we begin allow me to apologise to Press Play and Kenyan Post who got their guess that it would be O.J wrong. I am actually apologizing because nobody likes a smarty pants… Especially when they get it wrong!

But Uncle Chim Tuna, your favourite dede is here to drop hints as to who our representatives will be… And I can authoritatively say that they will be both the bearers of XX chromosomes.

Yeah, this yeah Kenya will be represented by the lasses. keep it Ghafla as I drop more hints on who it will be until I ultimately declare who the two girls are.

SHOCKING: And The Gang Rapes Are Set Up From… Found Out Which Night Club The Dandora Rapists Operate From!

If you are as appalled as I am about the gang rape piece syndicated by my colleague Jeff Omondi, then you know to watch the video.

And if you’ve watched the video, allow me to bend your ear a little further. You will notice they speak about a popular discotheque where these little monsters set their prey up aye? And when I saw the blurred image I got the thinking… I know this place.
And indeed I do, allow me to make what is obscure crystal clear:

OPPOSITE_F2.jpg

This is the site from across the road from F2… The family bank ATM…

F2_ENTRANCE.jpg

The blurred F2 gates

The clear F2 gates

PESA_POINT_NEAR_F2.jpg

This is the blurred Pesa Point right next to F2’s entrance.

How it looks from a different angle.

And here’s how Dennis Okari put it:
“blah blah blah… And this is where it all begins: Outside this establishment, everything looks normal. We parked outside on one Sunday afternoon, to monitor the happenings here. This is one of the many discotheques in town where every Sunday afternoon, young boys and girls all under 18 yrs come in droves from different parts of the city; mainly Eastlands… From 2pm to 8pm it’s called the “Jam Session” and it’s only 100 shillings entrance.
These young ones will indulge in drinking and dancing the whole afternoon and what goes on behind the tight security at the gate cannot be aired on national television!”

i however feel that I must mention that F2 does not in any way condone the imbibing of alcohol by the minors. they often go to dingy pubs to drink cheap alcohol then come back.

“It’s 9pm and the jam session is over. This is always the trickiest part for most of these girls. As the gang of boys prey on these girls left exposed to danger under the cover of darkness…”

Mr. Nice Back To His Old Ways? Read About How He Was Booed At iClub!

Our resident paparazzi Vincent Omondi recently witnessed a shocking yet hilarious episode at iClub where he swears that Mr. Nice turned diva and got booed by Kenyans who for the record do not like diva tendencies in their men! Enjoy:

It seems Mr.Nice is going to find it rough dealing with Kenyan crowd as a celebrity coz they are completely different from our brothers in Tanzania.

Mr.Nice is a party animal and you know that, (yeah, to honest I’ve had he loves to party) so recently, to be precise the previous Sunday, Mr.Nice went out to have him some good time and laugh at famous joint in town (iClub) where Comedian Fred Omondi and Mc Antonio usually host a comedy show every Sunday.

Takeu Style, hehe --->

So this is how all went down: Mc Antonio spotted Mr. Nice in the crowd and being that he is a celebrity obviously fans wanted him to wave and say hi and so Mc Antonio went ahead to request Mr.Nice to wave to the fans.

But it seems Mr.Nice didn’t take this nicely and politely and refused to wave or even stand up saying that he is a signed artist and the Mc can’t pay him and if he gets to the stage he’ll be sued. Fans were treated to some good comedy when Mr.Nice stood up, took the microphone and started uttering some trash that the fans didn’t want to hear :”amnilipi nyinyi nikipanda hapa kwenye jukua nitashtakiwa mimi” in Tanzanian accent, fans got fed up and started shouting “Mac muga” which was a diss track to Mr. Nice.Things didn’t work nicely for Mr.Nice when the Deejay went ahead to give the fans what they requested.

The rest is history but believe me it was such a drama there.

This Is How Inka’s Day At Choices Thursdays Went Last Week!

Choices Thursdays last week hosted the amazing band Inka, and I happened to come across the pictures which I shall share with you.

The pictures were taken by Paul Munene of Quaint Photography, all rights reserved. Read about Inka here. Meanwhile, this Thursday Maia Von Lekow shall be on the Choices Thursdays stage with her band, read about the here and make a date! While at it, please read about an event happening at Choices tonight. Called Rapsody, it will feature Dj Blinky Bill Of Just A Band.

Inka is made up of Five Young Men (Vincent Awino – Acoustic Guitar & Vocals, Stephen Musyimi – Bass Guitar, Samuel Mbaluka – Keyboard & Percussions, Adonis Kwata – Drums & Vocals and Tony Odero – Lead Guitar and Vocals). Have You Watched The Gang-Rape Investigative Piece? Will We Allow This To Continue? Demand Justice Now!

I have just watched the documentary in this article written by my colleague Jeff Omondi and I became physically ill! That is no exaggeraation. I actually suffered a rather violent vomit session. I cannot imagine anyone I know and care about being raped.

And yet in Dandora, gang rape is a reality for girls and ladies. Rape is such a vile act that it robs more than just the victim of their innocence and purity, many a time it robs them of their will to live. And then Robert Alai comes to mind with his callous tweet about raping Kileleshwa residents.

But away from that, watch the video and listen to the pain in the little girl’s voice as she talks about her gang rape ordeal! Read between the lines and empathize. When I was 13, FIFA 2002 was the only problem i had. Metal Gear solid aswell. But these young girls are being brazenly dragged out of matatus and being raped!

Does no one feel what I do? Is no one angry about this tragic truth? These girls are being defiled! They are being violated! Whenever I go out, when someone dares to touch one of my female companions wrong and they complain, I usually go ballistic! It is in my nature to protect women! I am outraged at the fact that these 13 yr old girls have no one to protect them! don’t we have a government? Do we not pay taxes? Do we not have a police force?
Are these girls not Kenyan? Are they not human? And the perpetrators of such heinous, savage and despicable acts are little silly boys aged north of 13yrs old and south of 18yrs old! They haven’t even sat their national exams yet!

Speak up and defend your daughters! Defend your sisters. Speak up against this gang rape! But do you know the kicker? The local area Chief Monica Waithera says she knows of everything but she as the local representative of the central government is powerless against the local yobs! What?

Watch How Rape Gangs Wreak Havoc Among Girls in Dandora

Friday last week we told you of how an organized gang of rapists comprising of armed and very dangerous boys between the ages of 14 and 17 is on the loose in Dandora. The perpetrators are slowly being turned into monsters by the silence of rape victims; silence brought about by fear of being maimed by the gang.

They go about raping small girls and sometimes even killing them turning the area into the rape capital of the city. So bad is the situation that it has become a normal for girls in Dandora to be gang-raped, in fact they refer to it as ‘kuchotwa’.

Kiss TV’s Dennis Okari brings you this heart breaking story.

Nation Media Group’s Uganda Subsidiary Raided by Police

Media freedom is being curtailed once again; this time in the neighbouring Uganda.

Police officers Monday searched Monitor offices, claiming they were looking for the Gen. David Sejusa’s letter (Gen. Sejusa is the Coordinator of Intelligence Services). The police later shut down the newspaper’s printing press and its sister FM radio stations – KFM and Dembe FM.

In a press statement, the police said that they received intelligence information that there are people who have started scanning signatures of senior government officials “with the intention of using the said signatures on documents claiming they are officials documents from government whereas not.”

The police officers on the scene told Monitor Publications Management that the newspapers premises have been declared a scene of crime, and no operations can go on.

Mr. Tom Mshindi, the Chief Operating Officer, Nation Media Group (NMG), said the action was very surprising in a country where core discussions on freedom of expression are lively. “We could have hoped for a prior communication before this happened but we didn’t get it,” Mr. Mshindi added.

Daily Monitor is a subsidiary of Monitor Publications Ltd, which is owned by The Nation Media Group and five other individual shareholders. The Monitor is the only Ugandan newspaper that reports on news stories unhindered and conducts serious investigative reporting in the public interest. It consistently breaks stories and sets the news agenda.

‘Occupy Parliament’ Activists Refuse To Take Plea

17 ‘Occupy Parliament’ activists were Monday arraigned in court following last week’s protests at the entrance of Parliament over MPs’ pay increase plans where were charged with rioting and causing breach of peace.

However, the 17 activists refused to take plea after the defence (their Lawyer Harun Ndubi) objected arguing that the charges of breach of peace and cruelty to animals have no sufficient details and should be struck out. The protesters dressed in ‘Occupy Parliament’ T-shirts were released on a cash bail of Sh10,000 each pending a ruling by the court scheduled for Thursday this week on whether the activists should plea to the charges.

Occupy_Parliament.png
The 17 activists face three charges of intending to provoke breach of peace by pouring “gallons of bloody substance at the gate of Parliament and releasing a pig with several piglets”.

They were also charged with taking part in a riot contrary to section 78(1) (2) as read with section 80 of the penal code, and of being cruel to animals.

Photo of the day: Tarrus Riley chilling with Wyre

If you have just crawled out from under a rock, Tarrus Riley is coming to Kenya again next month! We at Ghafla! have the perfect deal for you not to miss out on this action. But I digress, spotted on Twitter was this pic of Tarrus Riley and our very own Wyre! Hmmmmmm after last week’s picture of him and the lovely Alaine, I wonder if he got them in studio to record some songs with him?

Don’t Be Fooled; The Size 8 Page You Know is Phony!

So many people have been duped into believing certain pages on Facebook belong to certain celebrities. Some have even been swindled of their hard-earned cash only to realize later that it had been a trap. But here at Ghafla! we care about you that’s why we always keep you in the loop about the real celebrity Twitter handles and Facebook accounts.

Just recently we also told you about Lulu Hassan denouncing an imposter account and warning her fans about it. Well, the latest to be affected by this wave of charlatan is Gospel singer Size 8. Before crossing over to Gospel ministry, Size 8 had a Facebook page which she has been utilizing to communicate to her fans until most recently when it was hacked.

According to the ‘Mateke’ singer, the page, Size 8, was hacked and the password altered so she could not access it anymore. The singer had intended to bring down some of her past kinky photos and replace them with decent ones as well as amend the name of the page to reflect her new stance.

Now she has opened a new page, Size 8 Reborn, with a totally new description, “Kenyan based gospel singer, song writer and actress” that befits her. She also cautions her fans that the new page is her only real Facebook page.

Comedian/TV Personality/Radio Presenter JB Masanduku Unveiled!

I was going through a copy of Cheka Times and the featured media personality this month is JB Masanduku!

You probably know him as the very hilarious co-presenter to Tina Kaggia on One FM’s afternoon show. That show by the way must be the only one co-hosted by fiancees! Another thing that makes it unique is that Team Ghafla gets to behind the mic every Friday! Back to JB. As I said earlier, this interview was conducted by Cheka Times.

According to Cheka times, JB aims to not only crack you up but impart life lessons through humour. He calls himself the motivational preacher that utilizes humour! Fresh. JB who revealed in the interview that he is an orphan now, was sent to Russia to study engineering because his parents felt that it suited him. He was after all a student in Starehe boys centre. As fate would have had it, while on vacation in Kenya, he attended a baby shower for one of the people in Churchill live, where he was the centre of attention. He unintentionally kept making the room giggle and burst into fits of laughter. Uncontrollable laughter seems to be JB’s forte. He was encouraged to seriously consider comedy as a career, and he yileded to the call. He however reiterates, that while he did go to Strathmore to study a Bachelor of commerce and actually graduated, his uncles still feel he should return to Russia to complete his degree! Yikes, I still don’t understand how two of my friends survived that blistering cold!

JB it seems was in the mood to let not one but many cats out of the bag! He explains in the interview that he believes making a move to 1FM from Kiss 100 was the best career move he’s made thus far. He went on to say that plans to tour the USA, UAE, and Australia are in the offing. More so, he will be revealing plans of new shows he’ll be featuring in, as well as possibly getting hitched to his sweet heart Tina Kaggia in December.

Something else I found interesting about him, is that his idea of a perfect date is being in the outdoors where you are at the mercy of the elements! He considers Slum Dog millionaire the one movie that truly speaks to him about destiny and making it. He did come clean about why he left Comedy Club. The saddest bit of the interview was the fact that his dad passed away before seeing him take to the stage. JB, I’m sure wherever he is, he is very proud that you are carrying on his legacy with pride.

Choices Thursday To Feature The Immensely Talented Maia Von Lekow!

You were probably wondering who shall be gracing the Choices Baricho Road stage this Thursday. The headline gave it away.

First things first, check out the event that Choices will be having having tomorrow tailor made for hiphop lovers. It is called Rapsody and features Just a band’s Blinky Bill. Read about that here.

Now, this Thursday, it is Maia Von Lekow who shall be entertainign all of you. The first time I heard this lady sing, it was on telly with her father. It was my wish to see her sing live! Dreams they say, do come true, because she performed in an event called Craft party that I was a part of. I never forgot her warm persona, or her exhilarating stage performance.

I am glad to announce that she will be willl be making a a much awaited comeback to the Choices stage. She recently launched her new album Drift, so expect lots of new music from her. Her bio according to the event page reads:

We are pleased to have a return appearance by singer/songwriter Maia von Lekow as she celebrates her new album “Drift”. A little about Maia.

“Maia brings a dynamic new color to Kenya’s contemporary musical landscape. Born and raised in Nairobi to a German/Italian mother and a Kenyan father, Maia’s unique heritage is combined into a fresh sound weaving jazz, funk, folks & blues all sprinkled with Swahili spice.

A traveller at heart, Maia has lived and performed in Berlin, Melbourne, & Dublin. Since returning to Kenya in 2007, Maia has established her current live act, a high-energy 6-piece band that has been making waves throughout East Africa, gracing the stages of prominent festivals such as HIFA (Zimbabwe), Sauti za Busara (Zimbabwe), The Rift Valley Festival, Sierra Jazz Safari, & Blankets & Wine (Nairobi). Maia’s intimate acoustic performances both solo and as a trio have also garnered enthusiastic responses from all over.

And This Is House Of Lungula/ In The Forest’s Gerald Langiri In All His ‘Glory’.

Gerald Langiri is one funny guy. And, he doesn’t shy away from controversy. That always makes for great fodder when you work for an entertainment site.

Which is why this picture made it here. The picture was posted by Nice Githinji who was featured in In The Forest a while back.  Oh, incase you haven’t watched Lenana Kariba brush Gerlad Langiri’s hair in this week’s episode, do so here.

Gerald_Langiri.jpg

See some of the comments below thanks to the print screen I took, they are funnier than the picture itself. The picture was taken in the set of House Of lungula.

Bamzigi’s Brother Actor Lenana Kariba Admits He Finds Kalekye Mumo Sexy In The Forest!

In The Forest this week features yet another actor in the industry, that is doing many great things. If you’ve watched Lies that bind, or Saints, you will easily recognize Lenana Kariba.

HISTORIA_LOGO.jpg

So last week, they had a very queer moment where Gerald asked Ainea to touch his moobs. You watched it? See that episode full of glitter and confetti here!! This week, they brought a rather ‘tame’ but affable Lenana Kariba.

In_The_Forest_2.jpg

I’ve met this guy at Alliance in called Zinduka Interactive, a media platform for students by Citizen’s Waihiga Mwaura. Thus I can attest to the fact that Lenana is very personable. And he’s featured in Kenya’s upcoming sex-themed comedy House Of Lungula, read about that here.

In_The_Forest_3.jpg

Now one thing I did not know is that Lenana is Bamzigi’s younger brother! Wow. He revealed that he does appreciate big ladies, or as he calls them, filled women. Intersting stuff. He went ahead to disprove those rumours that he’s dating Chantelle!

In_The_Forest_5.jpg

Relax, it’s not Tokelezea’s Chantelle, Lies that Bind’s Chantelle. The strangest part of this interview is that Lenana offers to brush Gerald’s hair twice, elliciting gigles from Gerald. Hmmm. See picture below.

In_The_Forest_6.jpg

And here’s that infamous brush courtesy of their new sponsor! Clearly they either ran out of tissues, or the old sponsor pulled out!

You know Dan ‘Chizi’ Aceda right? From the days of Sana-sana, to wacha waseme to soufflé and saida. He has undergone a major metamorphosis from being just a singer to becoming a songwriter and producer of repute! He recently did an awesome collaboration with Amileena that you just have to hear if you haven’t, it’s called let them say.

dan aceda 2e

Well the man has been busy! He just finished a project where he wrote and produced a Pan African Song. This song that is yet to be released featured Artists from Ghana, Togo and Kenya. As the adage goes, Dan keeps his nose to the grindstone! The song was commissioned by the Africa Alliance of The YMCA. Consequently, it will be presented by the head of that organization to the African Union General Assembly. Why? As part of a memorandum to the African leaders from Africa’s youth asking for more leadership opportunities to be reserved for the youth.

Nairobi Live At Treehouse Presents The Villagers Band This Thursday!

I have realized that it’s better to update all of you in advance, of the events happening this week. That way I absolve myself of any blame for “sitting on information”!

I already told you about Rapsody, now let’s go to Treehouse. This week, or rather this Thursday, they present to you Villagers Band! I’m sure you know about Villagers Band so I’ll share with you the details to the event and then my favorite video by them! Have you watched their most recent video be your fool? Do so here!

Nairobi Live at Tree House presents The Villagers Band May 23rd. They dubbed their sound beng’eng’e, sing in Dholuo, Swahili and English, and their tantalizing offering is indigenous. I think. Purposely benga, it’s been kept in a nice marinade of high-life, mbalax, Kwela and other exotic sounding genres. Yum! These guys have headlined events like Spread The Love festival with Kirk Franklin, Rift Valley Festival, Gatwich Festival with Emmanuel Jal, Sawa Sawa Festival, Blankets & Wines, as well as Nairobi Kinanda Arts Festival with Freshly Ground. The all-male band is fronted by talented songwriter Chris Adwar (Music director/Lead vocals/songwriter/keyboard.) The rest of the members are Bionic Ngalu (Electric guitar), Kenny Nyagah (Band leader and drums), Tim Riungu (saxophone) as well as my two friends Moses Odumbe (Acoustic guitar and backup vocals), and Allan ‘Sucre’ Wanjohi (Bass guitar and backup vocals).

Remember, Thursday May 23rd 8.30pm – 11pm at Tree House, entrance is free! Treehouse is International Casino Complex Museum Hill, Westlands road, the same road that Purshotam Place is located. Now to that video, my favorite song by The Villagers Band is Wa Me! And no that is not autotune, its a vocorder. I learnt that from one of the Youtube comments.

After Working Together, Now Sage Is Set To Dethrone Octopizzo!

I have been ranting and raving about this girl!. Everybody who knows me knows how much I love Sage.

Now before I get to the chart, indulge me for a second. Did you know that sage the herb, is hailed by doctors for curing mouth sores, coughs and sore throats when you gargle sage tea? Did you know that it strengthens the nervous system, improves memory and sharpens the senses? And yes for the women, the herb reduces hot flashes during menopause, excessive menstral cramps (dsymenorrhoea) as well as menstrual irregularity (amenorrhoea)! Why these facts you ask? Sage, an encouraged staple for tea drinkers by the Chinese lives up to its billing, and so does Sage the singer. She’s here to stay!

Who Is This Man Driving Sage Insane? Hear Her lament!

It gives me ineffable joy finally the world is taking notice of her. You first heard of her in so alive, before she released her biggest hit yet Maskini.Thank you for voting for it by the way, it did beat Sauti Sol’s still the one in Capital Fm’s The Lounge’s bubbling under section. And this week, it’s the hottest song in Mdundo’s chart! New entrant yet it’s number three! Will she dethrone Octopizzo next week? Lets wait and see! She by the way was in Larry Madowo’s The Trend, watch that here.
