Word just in has it that Ciku Muiruri will be penning a tell-all book about her relationship with the Artur brothers!

According to Stevens Muendo, here’s what Ciku told him:

Prolific radio presenter Ciku Muiruri is penning her controversial novel in which she will profile some memoirs on her much-talked about controversial encounters with the polemic Artur Margaryan brothers. The busted presenter exclusively told MondayBlues that the novel will be “very controversial”.

“I will be dropping the book soon,” she said.

Praises Heaped On the Newest Queen of Comedy ‘Teacher Wanjiku’

She is among the freshest breed of comedians and so far she has not disappointed. She is Teacher Wanjiku or in her description, ‘Tiishhha Waajiko Mwarimu wenyu wa kiswahiri.’ She is proving a tough nut to crack as one of the top (if not the only one) female comedians with eyes on survival in a male dominated industry.

Teacher Wanjiku describes herself as both an actress extraordinaire and stage manager and she is indeed living up to that description. A regular on Churchill Show, Churchill Raw and the Hot Seat, she is also an actress at Heartstrings Kenya.

teacher_wanjiku2.png

Many people have praised her for her talent in comedy and all agree that she is indeed the next big thing in comedy.

Cabu Gah: She is fresh, new, bold, exciting, original and dangerously hilarious. Wanjiku is not some lame-ass stand -Up comedian telling us the same Luo-Kikuyu bull**** jokes…Wanjiku is not some cheap a** comedian, telling us the same, old Rongai ~ni~Mbali “jokes”. This Girl knows her thing. And she does it LIKE A PRO! This Girl is unapologetically funny, totally creative, unbelievably amazing and extremely rib-cracking!

Abdulsamad Alawi: Teacher Wanjiku is the queen of Kenya Comedy…

Why Mbuvi Left His Jobs as a Banker & Lecturer to Become a Musician

Mbuvi Mbuvi, the Gospel artist with same name twice isa praise and worship singer in the gospel ministry who is known for his humour and catchy songs. Over and above, he is a humble brother in Christ.

He was recently interviewed by the Sunday Nation and revealed quite a lot about himself that most of his fans do not know about him. Here is the interview;

SN: With 13 years in the industry, you still don’t see yourself as a successful artiste?

M: I feel like I’m starting my music career now. It seems to be shaping up so when it comes to success, am not there yet.

SN: You started your career with a bang, right?

M: Yes, back in the year 2000, when I wrote the song ‘Ukilya Moko’ and Shammah sang it. But it has been on and off since then, until in 2006, when I released my first album, ‘Sweet Ndwale’.

SN: Rumour has it that you studied engineering?

M: Not really. I did a degree in physics then did a Masters in Computer-based information systems.

SN: That’s interesting to know. When was that?

M: I did my degree in the late 90s and finished my Masters in 2005. There was some interruption in between by work and music.

SN: Where did you work?

M: I have previously been a banker at Commercial Bank of Africa, then after doing my Master, I lectured at JKUAT before venturing fully into music.

SN: So you quit a full time job to venture into music? Does it mean that music is paying you better?

M: Of course my previous work places used to pay better but my passion for music made me venture into it fully. But I can confidently say that music is now a full time career for many musicians.

SN: You have an interesting background. Tell me more about it.

M: Okay, I was conceived when my mother was only 19. Her boyfriend had asked her to consider an abortion but she refused. So I was born in my rural home, where my mother decided to go (for refuge).

SN: So sad. What happened next?

M: She came back to Nairobi and I was left in the village with my grandparents. I even started schooling there.

SN: At what point did you come to Nairobi?

M: When I was in Standard One, after my mother got married and she decided to live with me. What is interesting is that I had to repeat Standard One.

SN: Why?

M: In the village, we were taught in our mother tongue, so I could not understand anything in Nairobi. It was quite hard; at some point I even hated being a Kamba because it didn’t sound cool anymore.

SN: It’s interesting that most of your hit songs now are in Kamba.

M: Oh yes, I wouldn’t have imagined that.

mbuvi1.jpg

SN: So did you do well in class?

M: Yes, I topped my class on most occasions, then proceeded to Lenana School – a national school and went to Moi University. So I can confidently say I did well in class.

SN: Was it difficult growing up?

M: Not at all. I got most of everything I needed. My siblings, a sister and a brother, did the
same.

SN: Well, you have three albums and just about to launch the fourth one. At what point did you decide to go into music full-time?

M: When I launched the album ‘Sweet Ndwale’ in 2006. I started getting shows here and there and later singer Kambua came back into the country from abroad and I decided to help her get a grip on the Kenyan gospel music industry. I had made a name by then, but she hadn’t. I wrote the song ‘Kivevelo’ for her but we both got the credit for it.

SN: Speaking of Kambua, entertainment pages had it that you were dating for some time. What can you say about your love life now, are you seeing anyone?

M: Ha!ha! I’m not dating at the moment, so I’m still waiting for my time.

SN: Ten years after releasing ‘Sweet Ndwale’, you have just done a remix to it, featuring Emmy Kosgei. Why?

M: A friend of mine lost his mum two years ago. He didn’t know that his mother did so many things for the community until the day of the funeral when thousands of people turned up, saying how she had helped them. He wanted to keep the spirit going and asked me to do a song for her.

Classic 105 Off Air!

Incase you’re wondering why you haven’t been able to tune into Maina and King’ang’i in the morning and you are wondering why that is, well, it’s because…

As Maina Kageni explained it on his Facebook page; “Classic 105 is off air due to a problem with one of our transmitters in Limuru. Engineers are trying to fix it as soon as they can.

Poleni sana for the inconveniences caused.”

So there you have it. Read about a rather heated Maina and King’ang’i in the morning edition here.

With All The Rumours Circulating Just Who Is Going To BBA?

There have been alot of rumours about just who has made the final cut for BBA as Kenya’s representative. And alot of sites have been claiming that it was going to be O.J and Huddah Monroe. Alot of calls were made to find out who Ghafla had heard was going.

But unlike your third favourite site, we don’t deal in rumours. We base our stories on the truth! And with that, allow Uncle Chim Tuna to dispel some of these rumours and give you facts.

*clears voice*

For starters, any site that told you O.J was going to be repping Kenya told a lie. O.J -the king of Facebook- will not be heading to South Africa to represent Kenya.

This is how he refuted the claims:

Open Letter To Gospel Deejays

Late last year, Deejay of the Year during the last edition of Groove Awards, DJ Krowbar shared, what in my opinion was a very candid message to upcoming musicians; however, some people took it the wrong way forcing the celebrated deejay to take back his words. And now what we are witnessing is an outcry from gospel artists who are complaining why their videos are not being played.

In a letter received recently by Uliza Links, new talents in the gospel ministry are inquiring whether quality taking over the message in a song; because it is becoming a great challenge for them to have their videos played. Here’s the letter;

Hi Servants Of GOD

“I have seen some videos not HD being played but also 90% of videos played are HD Videos and it’s such tough part for me as an artist to make it in the ‘industry’. I need to have the finances to produce a HD video which is quite expensive for me. I kindly request for my song to be played whether its HD quality or not as i believe my message is meant to save a soul to Christ.

A renowned gospel musician song will be released today and be played tomorrow because? Their video is HD quality. While as for me i submitted my video weeks ago and it has never been played.

I live on a low budget and i depend on music for me to make it in life as i believe its my calling. I wish you a deejay to help us move forward as upcoming gospel artistes who can’t afford HD videos.

I feel if  i submitted my song first it should be played first as long as it has good message that will save a soul.  I know they are so many videos and songs submitted weekly but i feel a song of HD quality should not be played before mine when i came first.”

Regards

GODs Servant

Kiss 100’s Carol Radull Bereaved

Kiss 100’s Carol Radull has lost her father Alex Radull. The radio personality just broke the news via twitter where she bid her late father farewell.

Condolences have been streaming in on her Facebook page and on twitter. Interestingly enough however, a link can be made between this tragic affair and the death of the late Senator Mutula Kilonzo as Caroline Mutuko who had been accused of being a witness and possibly involved in the late Senator’s death had reported that she was by her friend’s (Carol Radull) side at MP Shah Hospital as they kept vigil for Carol’s father who had been admitted to hospital.

You can read all about that here.

We here at Ghafla extend our condolences to Carol Radull in this trying time.

Dennis Itumbi Defends DP Ruto’s KSh100 Million Jet

The most controversial story right now is the revelation that Deputy President William Ruto’s office has hired a luxury jet for his travels across the continent in a deal which will cost taxpayers up to $300,000 (Sh25.14 million) every three months thereby making the payments across the year for the use of the jet amount to $1.2 million (Sh100.56 million).

This news irked a section of the masses who took to the social media to express their resentment. This did not go down well with blogger/journalist Dennis Itumbi. Itumbi, a Jubilee strongman, sought to put the matter to rest by giving his logic, this way;

Let’s face it _ Ruto’s predecessors used sh20m a trip – to one capital, on this one Deputy President William Ruto has done four capitals with a less budget…Facts don’t change coz we disagree with them…

Let’s push it and do the Math….Ruto’s Predecessors 20m for a jet for one trip whose results were failed negotiations for Ivory Coast – Deputy President Ruto on his part 18.5m for four trips where tens of billateral agreements have been signed -in most basic of calculations thats 4.6m per capital….challenge the facts …no need for insults

Finally…It cost Ruto 4.6m per capital…..his predecessor’s spent 20m for one capital…if that’s not saving …I don’t know what is……I rest on this matter

The Government has since refuted the claims. See that HERE.

Size 8’s Younger Sister DJ Size 7 is A Mum

Fame and flair is what Gospel artist Size 8 and her younger sister Size 7 seem to share in common. Or perhaps it is Size 8’s appeal to the masses that seems to have rubbed off on her. Anyhow, the young deejay has just joined the mothers’ club.

Mary Munyali AKA Size 7 AKA DJ 7 gave birth on Friday evening to a bouncing baby boy at the Aga Khan University Hospital. The child has been named Prince Ezra after his dad, a professional choreographer with the famous FBI dance crew.

Government Refutes Claims That DP Ruto Has Hired Luxury Jet Worth Sh100M

Yesterday, The Sunday Nation published a story purporting that the office of the Deputy President has hired a luxury jet that would cost the taxpayer KSh100 million. This matter generated a lot of debate especially on social media where the public vent their discontent about it.

However, in a statement to the press, the Government contested the claim by the newspaper terming it “inaccurate, false, exaggerated, malicious, in bad faith”. Here’s part of the statement;

As we all know, there are hardly any scheduled or commercial connecting flights between the capitals the Deputy President and his delegation has visited. A Commercial flight would have cost more because it would entail circuitous and torturous trips to European capitals and back in just to pick up connecting flights. The Deputy President was very conscious of this fact. In fact, by chartering the flight, the Deputy President has been able to realize this at a very cost-effective means.

We thus find the lead story published in the Sunday Nation today, May 19, 2013 inaccurate, false, exaggerated, malicious, in bad faith and intended to pursue interests that are narrow, selfish and hardly beneficial to this nation. It is disturbing that the neither the Deputy President nor any of his officers was afforded an opportunity – as journalistic practice of fairness and partiality dictates – to give his side of the story ahead of its publishing.

The article has no scintilla of truth. It is a fabrication; a concoction. It is slanted with very obvious intentions. It is intended to bring disrepute to the person and the office of the Deputy President.

For the record, there is no contract of one-year lease between Kenya and VistaJet, as the story purports. The plane was hired on a one-off basis at a cost of KShs18.5 million. This figure is in fact less than that quoted by local companies, which was KShs19 million. Those interested can confirm this with the company.

According to official records of similar trips in the past it would have cost upto KShs15 million for a travel to a single country. If the Deputy President had used the traditional one trip at a time like his predecessors, it would have cost more and months to complete.

The facility was recommended on the basis of safety and security of the Deputy President as it was used before by the Government. Previously, the same facility was hired for a similar trip and cost KShs29 million.

The Deputy President was a state guest to the countries and did not therefore incur any other of the taxpayers’ funds.

“Otonglo Time” Writer Attacked By Thugs (Photo)

In a city where organized crime has become the order of the day, you never know when you will fall prey. Woe unto you if they strike and you refuse to cooperate because you might end up losing your life. This is the mishap that befell talented scriptwriter Cliff Nyakwar Dani.

Cliff is the brains behind the play, “Otonglo Time” that propelled its narrator, Daniel Owira to an instant celebrity after an outstanding performance during this year’s National Drama Festivals that saw him perform before the Head of State leaving him in stitches. Now, Cliff was attacked last week Thursday by thugs who robbed him clean of his valuables and left him with a deep cut on his head.

Cliff_Otonglo.jpg

Luckily though, Cliff survived the ordeal and lived to tell the tale. “I almost got killed by thugs tonight. they’ve made away with my phone and left me with a very deep cut on my head. I am better though, the cut has been stitched up,” posted Cliff on his Facebook page.

However, until yesterday, Cliff was still in pain as the entire left side of my face swollen and was complain of extreme pain.

We wish him a speedy recovery.

Sports Anchor Saddique Shaban Quits KTN

Good-humored Saddique Shaban has left KTN after 8 years of service as a reporter, anchor and a host at the Weekly Sports Show. Many will remember him for his part in the launch of weekly sports paper ‘Game Yetu.’

However, Saddique was hesitant to give the exact reason for leaving the station as well as where he is headed to. It all started with this tweet; “Dear Tweeps, I’d like to inform you all that I’ve left employment at @KTNKenya and at @StandardKenya. Thank you all for watching. Much love.”

Then followed by a statement posted on his blog, in which he said;

Dear Friends and colleagues,

I feel it is time to pursue other interests after 8 years working as a Reporter and News Anchor, and a host of the Weekly Sports Show KTN Sports Final.

I leave KTN on a professional high, having given my best and having met incredible people from all walks of life.

To my colleagues, family and friends, I thank you all.

However, reliable sources intimate that there was friction between Saddique and his boss, the current head of Sports Department, Joshua Kemboi and that could be part of the reason for him to bolt.

All in all, Ghafla! wishes Saddique all the best in his next venture.

Upcoming Rapper Rajayjay Accuses Octopizzo Of Stealing Lyrics!

Octopizzo seems to rub off a lot of people the wrong way, may be that is the fruit of success, you judge for yourselves.

Earlier this morning, a rapper by the name Rajayjay (Rajul Kisia) passed by our offices and accused Octo of stealing a couple of rhymes from not only him but a number of Lang’ata based artists. He, in his own words, said that Octo would sometimes go to Studio 15, or Martial sounds studios in Lang’ata, sit and listen to the songs, and then use some of those punch lines in his own songs. Examples Rajayjay gave were, “Raila ana ni Owe Dinga” a play of words on Raila Odinga’s name. The other was ‘nimekafunga kama Ramadhan”. I believe that line was used by Octopizzo on his duet with Sage.

We actually took a video but due to unavoidable circumstances, I’m not able to share it. What I can do however is share what Octopizzo had to say. First he vehemently denied ever going to Lang’ata studios saying that he has his own studio where he records. He prefers to record with Musyoka or any other noteworthy producer that he feels can capture his sound well. Two, Octopizzo said that this rapper is not the first to try ride on his hard earned fame. Infact “if that guy wants to be famous, he could walk naked in town for all I care” Said Octopizzo. Well, Octopizzo does have a line of boxers.

There you have it, Rajul on behalf of Lang’ata artists has issued an ultimatum to Octopizzo, “Stay away from Lang’ata!” Octopizzo on his part said he pays no mind to artistes whose music he had no idea existed. What say you guys?

Is Adelle Onyango The Girl That Gave MusikMaestro Some Juju?

There’s a group that I just got wind of thanks to Kiss 100’s Adelle Onyango! The group consists of Made up of Crisis Musik and Jr Maestro!

http://i1.sndcdn.com/artworks-000047170411-p93xie-original.png?6422697

Why I asked that question, is because to get to them, you have to go through Adelle Onyango! Adelle by the way is the same lady that facilitated the upcoming duet between Lulu Kibaara and Longombas, read about that here. Now MusikMaestro are a London based East African duo signed to the independent record label Soulitary Entertainment. They have a new single called Juju!

http://www.nation.co.ke/image/view/-/1616310/medRes/423163/-/maxw/600/-/l5v64r/-/800AdelleOnyango.jpg

The duo fuses Ethnic roots of Kenya and Uganda into their music while lacing it with a modern feel. The song has this very unforgetable melody, with a ragga beat to endear fans to their eclectic sound.

Their website offers this tidbit, “The audio release of Electric Afreeca is the culmination of MusikMaestro’s experiment with afrohouse music and has now been followed by official online releases ‘house party’ & Debut single ‘disco girl’ featuring Dr. Sid from Mavin Records.” Incase you are wondering who they are, you better tattoo their name on your musical skin, because they have or are working on collaborative projects with established names such as Wyre / Punit /Nonini & Habida, Jackie Chandiru, Bossu of GHANA), Cassper Nyovest (South Africa) and Dr SID /Seyi Shay from Nigeria”

Their music is set to be a staple for bloggers and radio station in London!. ‘House Party’ and their debut single Disco girl featuring Dr SID ( Nigeria) put this duo on the world stage. Some of the stations where their music has received considerable airplay includes BBC1Xtra UK, 1FM Kenya , Kiss100 Kenya & Radio City Uganda!

Just to reiterate, Musik Maestro have shared a stage with Psquare, Wizkid and Iyanya. They have collaborated twice, with famous Nigerian artist Dr. Sid. One of thsoe collaborations was actually signed by producer extraordinaire Don Jazzy. They have not only collaborated with Wyre but have toured with him across Europe. Listen to Juju below.

Some of the other performers to expect include Dr. Ofweneke, Okal and Lucky Balaa, runner up of that comedy talent search for Churchill.

The Artist Who Has Declared His H.I.V Status Explains How He Contracted It!

We all love having fun, don’t we? I often tell the lads in the office to be young. Why? Well, we are in the summer of our lives. Have fun, experience life so that tomorrow, you will not be playing catch up suffering from midlife crises.

But everything is to be done in moderation. Allow me to deviate. I learnt the hard way that life isn’t always about having fun. I went through a phase of “finding myself” which was basically me just being irresponsible. I did it all! I however regret nothing. I learnt alot. Like what to look for in friends and how to value those that will dive into the ocean of your stupidity to save you from drowning. Shout out to Xola and Fox!

I was however very lucky to come out unscathed. Frigacy wasn’t that lucky. He contracted H.I.V. Let his tale talk as a precautionary one. Learn from his mistakes. Let his errors make you a better person.

“living possitively n coming out has been a big milestone for me…when i realized my status i cdnt even accept associating with pple who r infected.i lived in denial for a long time.,before then i would do drugs..id smoke bhang, cocaine, drink all night, and end up spending nights with strangers…at times i wdnt even realize what im doing….as my level of getting high was way above average.
young people at times wanna have fun, without realizing the exposure they get and the concequences they end up facing..
iv launched a campaign to fight againist AIDS,and create awareness abt the decease….
im asking big foundations like NACADA,NHIF among others to join hands with me to enlarge the awareness of HIV/AIDS”

Maybe someday I’ll talk about my own experiences…

Tahidi High’s Omosh Robbed By Female Gangster Whom Police Describe As Hardcore!

Police have reported that Tahidi High stars Omosh and Teacher Meiposi were robbed at gunpoint by a notorious female gangster.

A woman suspected to be a serial robber is claimed to have joined a gang that stole from the TV stars at gunpoint .Flying Squad officers arrested her in Naivasha after informers saw her drive on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

The stars included Joseph Kinuthia aka Omosh and ‘Teacher Meiposi’.

“I’m so glad that she has been arrested but I’m shocked that a woman could be behind this attack. We were attacked in broad daylight. It was hardly 7pm,” Omosh told The Nairobian.

He however said he does not recall seeing a woman during the attack.

The gang had raided a home they had visited in Kinamba and stole cash and other items from them two months ago.

Police said they are collecting evidence that the woman was with the gang that robbed the celebs.

The middle-aged woman had been trailed by Flying Squad for two months.

Police claim she was involved in a series of robberies in Nyandarua and in one incident a granny was killed.

Soon after the arrest, two victims identified her.

According to one of the victims, the woman stole his ATM and used it to withdraw cash from his account.

Caroline Mutoko To Sue Kahawa Tungu!

Caroline Mutuko has filed an official complaint asking police to investigate the anonymous blogger only known as Kahawa Tungulu who has linked her to the death of the late senator Mutula Kilonzo.

And caroline is angry because she feels this attempt to link her to Mutula’s death was a blatant lie calculated to injure (her reputation) and bring her into disrepute.

Here’s what the Star has reported caroline as having said, “I did not visit the deceased in my entire life, nor was I anywhere near his residence at the time as reported. this is an underhand attempt to damage my career which has taken me over 15 yrs to build and to undermine my international reputation!”

Kahawa Kutungu, it would seem the game has switched and now the hunter is the hunted! I personally think you should just issue a public apology and move on with life. Or if you have any proof, call the man you aspire to be -me- and i’ll help you out.

And just incase you think you’re smarter than an Ibo boy at John Hopkins, it has been discovered that you have tried to obscure your identity by registering your website through offshore domains like Turks and Caicos and engaged the assistance of a web anonymizer company…

Do not ask for whom the bell tolls, Kahawa Vitungu, for it tolls for you!

Starflix Movie Review: Iron Man 3

I had the pleasure of watching Iron Man 3 at Starflix and boy was it ever the experience! Read about what I’m talking about here.

Anyway, what can I say about Iron Man as a movie that hasn’t already been said? The movie is brilliant. If you understand it as what it is; a screen adaptation of a comic book. My friend and partner in crime Fox kept decrying the fact that it was scientifically inaccurate and if you’re like him, let me repeat what I told him; go watch the Discovery Channel!

The movie is simply brilliant! The acting from the actors is topnotch but what else would you expect? Robert Downey Jnr really knows how to bring out his character -the lovable douchebag Tony Stark. the plot? Well, the plot is the best part of it, you never see the plot twist coming and trust me when I say that it really makes this movie worth watching!

And if you need a plan for yourself and the fam or you and your boyos or you and your lass, why not treat her to a movie at Starflix? don’t be a cheapskate and only spend 50/-! Trust me when I say that while she may be a ride or die lass, she will really appreciate the treat. And it’s exactly because she’s a ride or die lass that she deserves this treat.

And Starflix has an offer for you: “Ask for our special combo – Unlimited Popcorn + Soda + Ticket! ”

So go check out the movie this weekend! And I know this review was shallow… That’s because your supposed to go watch it for yourself!

Occupy Parliament: The Police Who Beat Up Demonstrators Might Face Prosecution!

It would seem that not even police are above the law these days. Remember the pig demonstration organized by Boniface Mwangi? d’you remember how it was violently broken up inspite of it being legal?

It would seem the police who over stepped their mandate and violently dispersed the demonstrators could be in for a long overdue shock!

According to the star, “During a press briefing yesterday, police spokesman Charles Owino said any officer who used excessive force on the protesters will take responsibility for their actions.

Television footage showed a police officer beating up a protester. Police lobbed teargas to disperse the crowd at Parliament Building who were protesting against demands by MPs for higher pay. “They will have to say who gave them the orders or take individual responsibility for their actions,” said Owino. He condemned the activists for using pigs in the protest.

“This is a violation of the animals’ rights and the rights and freedoms of Muslims,” Owino said. He said the activists who were arrested were yesterday morning taken to court and charged with violating animal rights.”

<Where is that officer holding?>

Find Out Why Millionaire Jalang’o Is Set To Retire At Age 35!

Jalang’o is one of those guys that can draw humour out of anything! He’ll make fun of you, badly, but leave gasping for breath due to uncontrollable laughter.

Well that talent, is what has ensured he’s paid a tidy sum everytime he lends his voice to the microphone, or presence and shadow to a stage. Word on the street is that he was the best part of the Groove Awards nominations party! Yes clowns, take notes, you DO NOT need to be vulgar to be funny!  Jalang’o is an actor which earns him 50,000 a week, he also emcees! That’s about 3 shows a week in and out of town, and apparently that earns him about 100,000 bob! I need to breathe.
