Drum Jam To Take Place This Sunday At Phoenix Theatres!

I read once, that rainmakers knew something that science only found out recently, that drumming a certian rythm causes rain clouds to gather!

http://www.curiosity-news-blog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Djembes-290x300.png

You see music is about vibrations and frequencies, if music is played at the same rate as your heartbeat, it relaxes you, the viceversa and it agitates you. Well this art may have been lost in time but the art of drumming has not. This Sunday, join Mathewmatix and his team Drum Jam Inc as they present to you Drum Jam! I do not know if they are responsible for the heavy down pour that has been the bane of our lives for the last two months but one thing I promise is, they will be responsible for you bursting a move! So this Sunday, make your way to Phoenix theatres from 2.00 to 6.00 pm, the charges are only 200 bob. ONLY! Amani Baya will be sworn in the aht ‘King’ of Drumming in Nairobi, Will he be dethroned? Go find out!

Now back to that frequency story. According to a guy called Campbell, ” Music can slow down and equalize brain waves. There are 4 kinds of waves that the brain has. Beta waves, Alpha waves, Theta waves, and Delta waves. All of these waves are measured in hertz. Beta waves range from 14-20 hertz, Alpha waves range from 9 to 13 hertz, Theta waves from 4 to 7 hertz, and Delta from .5-3 hertz. When we focus on daily activities, or experience emotions that are strong, that’s when Beta waves occur. Calmness and having a heightened awareness are part of the Alpha waves, and if you’re in meditation, sleeping, or in an inspiring mood where you’re very creative, that’s when you’re using theta waves, and when you’re in deep sleep, and deep meditation, that’s when delta waves are used.”

He continues to say, “The slower the brain waves, the more relaxed, contended, and peaceful we feel. Common household music, medium paced music, generally has a pulse of about 60 beats per minute, which in turn can shift from the beta waves to the alpha waves. This is in certain types of music like Baroque, and New Age type music. This will increase alertness and things of that sort. If you’re listening to a Shamanic drumbeat, your waves may drop into the theta range, which would in turn, alert your state of consciousness. Because a Shamanic drumbeat alters your hearing, because it’s so different than other types of music…” Fascinating huh?

“I Am H.I.V Positive!” Upcoming Kenyan Artist Confesses! Read The Shocking Story Here!

Of late, the focus on H.I.V has switched from the youth to married individuals who routinely stray from their marital beds and do not use condoms with either their lovers or their spouses. Just ask Jimmy Gathu. He can tell you all about that. then there was the controversy surrounding what I considered an innocuous yet strategic campaign to get cheating spouses to put a condom in the mix.

Moralists and hypocrites were up in an uproar! how dare you tell people to cheat and use a condom? nay, the ad was misunderstood. The ad was targeted at people who will cheat anyway. you may aswell use a condom. Uncle Chim Tuna has spoken. trick don’t kill my vibe!

But away from that, an upcoming artist who goes by the name Frigacy has decided to come out and announce his H.I.V status. And it’s positive. Here is his statement;

“Hello Ghafla!
Im stage named “Frigacy” a recording artiste under Maxton. Born as George Kihara what im going to write is something that has taken me ages thinking n accepting. In life it gets to a point where we learn from mistakes therefore we live under the mistakes weve made. I made mistakes at my early age ,n it has costed me a lot in return. I want youths to learn with me that drugs,sex,fun…..r simply not the right way out as they have heavy consequences….im coming out as the first Kenyan singer on this topic. Im HIV positive.i no longer want to keep this secret by myself hence i want people with as mutual status to come out n accept the way things are n live positively…..being HIV is not the end of life…i want to b an inspirational artiste to many especially on this matter..give me support on this as enlarge my HIV/AIDS campaign of awareness..thankyou”

There’s Nothing Wrong To Compare MPs With Pigs: Dida

Former Presidential Candidate Mohammed Abduba Dida has differed with Muslim MPs on the recent use of pigs in a protest outside Parliament. Dida says there was nothing wrong with the conduct of the demonstrations against MPs’ demands for higher salaries.

Contradicting Majority Leader’s stance, the former presidential candidate has said there is nothing wrong to equate MPs’ greed to pigs even if the animal is regarded as unclean or ‘Haram’ to Muslims. Quoting the Bible and the Koran, Dida advised current MPs to adopt exemplary decorum.

Speaking to the media yesterday, Dida said the protestors should not be condemned for equating MPs to pigs saying what the legislators are doing is bad and equivalent to the pig. “It is not wrong for protestors against the salary increment to compare the MPs’ behaviour to pigs”, Dida said adding, “It is okay to compare human being to pigs if they behave like them.”

DPP Opposes The Release Of The Suspect in Dog P0rn Case

The Dog P0rn0graphy scandal has just taken a new twist after the Director of Public Prosecutions, Keriako Tobiko, moved to the High Court in Mombasa to oppose the release of the main suspect in the case, Christopher Weissenrieder.

The DPP opposed Weissenrieder’s release on a KSh 1 million bond yesterday evening holding that the suspect is a “flight risk”. This comes jjust hours after the DPP took over the case and added the charge of “Unnatural act with a dog” in other words, bestiality.

In the same breath, the suspect has also filed an application seeking to have the amount reduced claiming he can’t afford. Both matters will be heard today.

Dennis Onsarigo And Dennis Itumbi During Their Sufferer Days: Before Hobknobbing With Power Brokers!

Everytime I think of this lad, one song comes to mind. But more on that later. Dennis Itumbi is the epitome of rags to riches! he has literally lifted himself from more than obscurity. In a field dilled with journalists and bloggers, Dennis Itumbi and indeed Robert Alai stand out.

One for positive reasons. That would be Itumbi. Check out the track i was referring to below:

Citizen TV’s SK Macharia in Troubled Waters Again

Citizen TV is arguably the biggest TV station going by its huge number of viewers. However, the SK Macharia-owned TV station appears to be rocked by turbulence this year. Trouble seems to have started when SK Macharia’s preferred presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, failed to clinch the top seat.

Then what followed appeared like a ‘massacre’ to the TV station after its top journalists and production guys walked out to join its rival, K24. To add insult to injury, RMS lost its suit against CCK for shutting down its radio transmitters in different parts of the country.

This was then followed by yet again another threat from CCK of shutting down Citizen TV transmitters for supposedly operating without a licence. As if all that was not enough, reports recently surfaced of alleged staff mistreatment at Citizen TV.

And now, Standard Chartered Bank has accused SK Macharia of abusing court process in his pursuit of Sh55 million from the bank. Mr. Macharia had sued the bank seeking to recover the amount but his case was dismissed after Attorney General said investigations did not show any criminal action by the bank.

He has appealed the ruling and has asked the High Court to quash the AG’s decision.

But in a replying affidavit, Standard Charted bank’s asset manager Paul Wanyoike accuses him of abusing court process by couching a time barred judicial review as a constitutional petition.

Safaricom Barred From Using Musician’s Songs

A local musician has won a court battle with mobile service provider, Safaricom over the use of his songs in promotions. John Boniface Maina popularly known as JB Maina got orders restraining Safaricom or its agents from infringing upon his copyright by offering for sale through the internet, storing or using his songs for the ‘Skiza’ ringback tone promotion.

jb_maina.jpgMr. Justice George Kimondo ruled that JB Maina had provided sufficient evidence on his rights, and there was a need to protect his intellectual property. JB Maina sued the firm in September 2012 for allegedly using 10 of his songs as ringtones through its “Skiza” and “Surf 2 Win Promotion” seeking demanding Sh5 million in damages in addition to any amounts due after accounting for the alleged illegal sale of his songs.

The mobile operator had denied the allegations, saying that they signed a Content Provision Agreement with Interactive Media Services and Liberty Afrika Technologies, which are licensed by the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK).

JB Maina argues that the company made animations of his music and benefited through his works without his consent. “There is an intention by Safaricom and third parties to defraud me of the revenue from my intellectual property,” said Mr Maina in a sworn affidavit.

Shocking Revelations: GANG RAPISTS OF DANDORA

A 23 year old Indian woman whose gang-rape aboard a bus on December 16 in New Delhi spawned mass protests died 13 days later in a Singapore hospital. Around the same time a young girl is Dandora went through the same. She was beaten and gang raped by so many men she lost count after losing consciousness.

The only difference between her story and the Indian girl who was nick named ‘India’s daughter’ is that Glady’s is from Dandora and we are too busy for politics and other things while a generation is being wiped out in Dandora.

Her story is just one among many girls who have fallen victim to gangs that are made up of boys aged between 13 and 17. They are ruthless and strike at will.

The story of ‘Gang Rapists in Dandora’ is more that a story, its a wake up call, its the reality of a generation that has been ignored and now turning into a monster that we will not be able to control or kill if the status quo remains.

Monday’s story is just a glimpse into an extreme world of survival where even the local administration is overwhelmed but not willing to admit ‘Gang rape’ has becomes a crisis.

Nairobi Women’s hospital reports a rise in gang rape in Kenya. What are the new trends? More cases of Gender Based Violence are reported at GVRC units in the slums. It’s more than a story, it’s a call for action.

Join Dennis Okari as he investigates a common but largely concealed crime in Nairobi’s Dandora estate, GANG RAPE! Airs on Monday (the 20th of May 2013) on Kiss TV.

Citizen Pledge To Pay For The Late Wanade’s Sons’ Education!

News just in from the late Wanade’s funeral seem to indicate that Citizen executives have pledged to pay for the late actor’s sons’ education.

The touching news was broken by gospel artist Rose Ohon who is at the funeral celebrating the late artist’s life and talent. Here’s how the gospel singer broke the news:

Mr Googz Hits Out At The Gospel Fraternity!

Everytime I get shocked about something in the Kenyan gospel scene, Baba Ghafla reminds me that it’s 1st and foremost a business. And that always gives me clarity. And it seems this is another example of that.

Mr. Googz has fired shots at the gospel industry accusing it of not being free and fair as artists and producers and even DJs have formed cartels.

Mr. Googz lamented that unless you’re in with these cliques, they lock you out. Or as he put it, “…utafungiwa pazia!” And he openly lamented that this should not be happening where people claim God is the root cause for their passion. Why would you lock out someone who praises the same God as you?

He went on to add, “Cartels exist in the gospel industry. Kuna wasee wanabelong to groups Djs & Artists na kila group ufanya job na watu wake!”

It would seem controversy stalks gospel like a roaring lion! Last year it was sex scandals and this year it’s all about cartels and underhanded business tactics! Keep it Ghafla as we find out more!

Music Mainstay Nonini To Feature Other Artists On His Youtube Channel!

Y’all know how Nonini has been a trailblazer from the get go, shattering the proverbial ‘glass ceiling’ for musicians in Kenya.

He’s up to it again! Nonini has been on a mission to ensure that Kenyan music is given the recognition it deserves. That I believe was one of the sole reasons why he accepted the job at One fm’s breakfast show. The thing I love most about his show is the throwback segment where he plays songs that you haven’t heard in ages. In one fell swoop, he takes you down memory lane while painting an indelible picture of where we have come from as an industry. It’s hard to imagine that Nonini was once an unknown rapper with a fledgling career. Read this article to find out things about Nonini you did not know.

Well here’s more good news, Nonini has opened his YouTube channel to other artists. Surprisingly, he is one of the few Kenyan YouTube partners, and only partners can make money through their videos. He boasts of a sizeble subscriber base, so that will give artist’s videos a great stab at viewership. I’ll keep you posted when more details emerge on how to get your video featured there, but ofcourse Nonini is very active on social media so just holla at him. Infact he’s the East African artist with the most followers on Facebook. He’s very outspoken, read his rant about a certain MP here

The Fall of a Kenyan Dancehall Superstar Turned Matatu Conductor

He came he saw he conquered. The guy took over the dancehall scene and every club banged his hit song. Infact his hit collabo topped charts in Jamaica . Welcome to the world of fallen celebs and the celeb in question is Shaevy. Many know him of his hit collabo with Slice famed GYAL.

{youtube}_hDWNC7wCzk{/youtube}

Fortunes was on his side back then but of late he has hit dead end. The once flashy celeb has turned into manual jobs.

shavey1.jpg

You won’t believe the once respected dancehall King is now a conductor with the 1960 Kayole route. In fact, not even a conductor but a route guy known to the streets  as “squadi.” The more shocking revelation is that they were to do a collabo with Brick and Lace but the idea just went to the dogs. One of his recent work is a track which he was featured by Duxx Squad known as ZOOM. In a past interview with Ghafla’s Vincent Omondi, Ulopa “Bwana Ngoma” of SIDE B  talked of how he met the duo while back when they used to perform at Tacos Club and took them to studio and made them the hit song GYAL for free of charge, is the interview:

Here are the photos I managed to get at OTC bus station and for those who still don’t believe, you can go and witness at the Bus Station.

So why all these people, wasn’t it a hustle to get them all into one set? ‘I believe in perfection, which is the main reason I’ve taken so long to release this video, I wanted something I could look back at in 10 years and smile, an international product.’ was his reply. Kenneth Muturi And Chris Mwangi Qualify For The Semi Finals Of Guiness Football Challenge!

I applaud what Guinness is doing, giving money to young people that show an enviable knowledge in football! I love it when I see people making money form something they are totally sold out for!

Last night, Kenyan duo Kenneth Muturi and Chris Mwangi, qualified for the Semi-Final rounds of the Guinness Football Challenge. They were runners up from from the ninth episode of the TV game show screened on Ktn every Wednesday. Saddly, they narrowly missed out on the top spot to Ghanaian’s Emmanuel Kofi Okarku and Isaac Aryee.Congratulations fo the Kenyan team team again, hmm, I wonder how much money they bagged! Read about last week’s contestants here!

Guiness

Guinness Football challenge is a soccer themed game show that has gained popularity across Africa since its launch in 2010. The season 3 of the show is currently underway and has brought together teams from 5 African countries that include: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Cameroon and Ghana.

http://zuqka.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/GuinesLary-580x240.jpg

Sports commissioner Gordon Oluoch lauded the efforts of the four teams representing Kenya in the semi-finals of the ongoing Guinness Football Challenge TV game show for a great performance. Terming it as a step in the right direction in nurturing sports talent in the country; he said the show gives young people a platform to expose their talent by generating interest among the youth.

“The show reminds us that football is more than having players on the pitch; it has brought out the intellectual side where contestants are tested on their knowledge of the beautiful game thus showing that it is made of different components; general knowledge and strategy being among them.”

New Camp Mulla Music!

Camp Mulla seem to be determined to put out as many records as they can before they officially begin doing their own individual pursuits -school for some. Aside from putting out a number of solo tracks, they are back as a unit with a brand new track titled “Oh Ma Gad” which features WondaBoy.

and what can Uncle Chim Tuna say about this track? Awesome! It get’s the Uncle Chim Tuna seal of approval! The track is good not only because of the production work and sound quality -which has become a hallmark feature in any Camp Mulla track thanks to Kus Ma- but also on more subliminal levels; harmony.

The track starts off with Shappaman on his braggadocio tip but his lyrical wordplay is in a word stellar! He throws punchlines left right and centre straight at your lyrical dome! But alas! In the video he’s sip[ping a cocktail! I cry!

Then WondaBoy comes on next and his harmonizing with Miss Karun which I personally feel rested heavily on Karun’s individual talent was exemplary. That being said, WondBoy did well not to be swallowed by the young music heavyweights. He held his own.

Then on comes Taio Tripper, everyone’s favourite rapper and he proves all his fans right for investing such hype and hope on him. He simply shines. even his douchebag lines get swallowed somehow by his talent. I’m referring to his lines, “…the shorty that i tap/…/ Her hubby drives a Rav/ So when I pull up in that Jag/ She just stutter stut stutter then meet me in the bath…”

The video is shot by Kevin Bosco Jnr. But wait, have I mentioned that Kus Ma is also on the track? Aye, He’s on the loops and ad libs. Anyway, check out this awesome submission below and leave a comment.

One of those arrested was Kuxi Ghai who is a relative of Yash Pal Ghai, a luminary in Kenya’s legal fraternity who helped in her process of getting a new constitution. And along with Boniface Mwangi and his brave group, she was released from police custody later that night. Kuxi is a film documentary and commercial producer along with being a writer and journalist.

When she got home however, more drama was in store for her. She claims that thugs in suits attempted to break into her house. There were 4 thugs in total and two of those men were in suits… I can just hear the conspiracy theorists now… “Utumishi kwa wote!”

Kris Eeh Baba Reveals How He Used Just KSh200 For His First Song

The other day, the “Katikia Yesu” singer was kind enough to let us in on three things we never knew about him and what astounded me most was that he just spent KSh200 for a song!. It may not sound real considering how much upcoming artistes are asked to fork out by producers to record their first tracks but yes, it is true Kris spent just 200 bob for his first song.

Here are the three;

1) I used to call myself “Naughty Naughty” “Slimmer” “Termite” among other crazy names while coming up as an artist.

2) I paid Ksh200 for my first song, I had saved the 200/= from my break money for two months, heheheee. Ask Majic Mike, he will confirm this 🙂 the second song at least nilimpea 1k.

It happened that on this material day producer Majic Mike was at an event which Kris was performing at and seeing the great potential in him, he set up an appointment with Kris to do sound for him. Kris was so excited and he took to the studio on a later date to be done a sound recording my Majic Mike. So the funny part of the story is that when Kris was supposed to submit his payment for the recording, he forked out a 200/- shilling note from his pocket. Sounds like a joke, yeah? However, Majic Mike understood him and instead of taking the money, he sent Kris to get him a plate of fries and sausage!

3) I was carried out of stage during my performance while coming up because of using a secular instrumental. (I couldn’t afford recording a song so nilinunua instrumentals from a makanga wa mtaani and wrote my song 🙂 ) The people that carried me off stage are currently my best brothers and have supported me in more ways than you can imagine 🙂 Big up to Clement Miano,Johny and Lesly.

Kris & Majic Mike in their new video

Meanwhile remember to vote for Kris by Sms the following codes to 811:

There’s More Than Meets The Eye In Robert Alai’s Arrest

Yesterday, controversial blogger Robert Alai was arrested for the nth time. However, his case seems to raise more questions that it can answer because of the circumstances that led to his arrest.

However, fellow blogger Roy Ogolla seems to know more than meets the eye but has remained tight-lipped refusing to comment about the issue citing his closeness to the parties embroiled in the matter. Here’s why;

I’m restraining from commenting on William Oduol’s move have Robert Alai Onyango arrested…

This is because the both of them are my friends and are people well known to me. This morning at 7.00 am, Alai called me to inform me of his planned arrest if he appeared in court where the hearing of his case with Francis Kimemia was scheduled to happen.

I tried getting hold of Oduol to pray upon him not to have the arrest executed but I guess he was busy and has not responded to my calls till now.

I have refused to comment on this matter because I believe that I have a more detailed dossier on this whole “beef”. I know the persons pulling the strings and I’m aware of how far the strings are being pulled.

I wouldn’t want to be seen to be taking sides on this matter, my personal relationship with both men doesn’t allow me. But one thing I can assure you, there is more than meets the eye.

Now that the matter is before a court of law, I will respect the jurisdiction of the courts and will release my dossier, once the matter is dispensed with.

As we vilify Oduol and celebrate Alai, let’s all remember that the constitution protects ALL…!

Nameless ‘Exposed’

David Mathenge better known as Nameless, is among the pioneers of urban music in Kenya having rose to fame in 1999 through a star-search contest on Kenya’s urban. A multiple award winner, Nameless also boasts of numerous nominations in different awards. But what else do you know about him apart from that?

4. He has a major phobia for flying, yet he has to fly to various destinations around the world on his music tours.

5. He hates swimming because his swimming teacher used to throw him in the deep end even before he learned how to swim.

6. He is very short sighted and cannot do without his spectacles.

7. His proudest moment was graduating second best in campus in his year

8. Nameless does not eat chicken nor fish.

9. Nameless quit smoking after a 14 year addiction. He has not smoked in three years now.

10. Twelve years in the game, he still gets stage fright.

Meanwhile, you catch up with him HERE.

Why The Kenya Communication (Amendment) Act is The Biggest Threat To Bloggers

The Kenya Communication (Amendment) Act is a piece of legislation that seeks to make what would be Civil Defamation proceedings to be Criminal. This according to bloggers is a threat to them and should be amended. Two of Kenya’s most prominent bloggers Dennis Itumbi and Roy Kohadha Ogolla recommend the same.

Dennis Itumbi:

Let me say this and am not defending @Robert Alai – We need to ammend the Kenya Communication Ammendment Act, that piece of legislation seeks to make what would be Civil Defamation proceedings to be Criminal – In the present arrest I sincerely believe that if William Odoul is aggrieved he should seek relieve from a defamation suit – I have won a similar suit against Alai, but as a Civil suit, don’t make Civil suits criminal using a patchwork of legislation…This Communication Act is the biggest threat to blogging….in this case Kohadha Roy Ogolla tells me Odoul asked Alai to grant him a right of reply and he declined, even offering proof that he was not married and that the photos were first circulated by an ODM MP on the campaign trail, but Alai declined and dared him to go on and take police action..my take…Civil suits remains Civil they cannot be turned into Criminal acts…Though the CID are acting within the law as it stands, its a law that needs urgent review by our courts, Alai can actually decline to take plea and seek constitutional interpretation first…Hope he does….but after that Odoul has a right to seek Civil relief.. I will say it again write and comment what you can proof….

In agreement, Ogolla opines that;

Dennis Itumbi, I cannot agree with you more than thisThe Kenya Communication Act needs an amendment like yesterday.

We Have No Apologies To Make For Using Pigs: Photo-Activist Boniface Mwangi

Yesterday, animal rights activists were up in arms over the use of pigs in Tuesday’s ‘Occupy Parliament’ demonstrations and demanded an apology from the civil society. However, one of the organizers, photo-activist Boniface Mwangi has stood his ground and insisted that they will not be making any apologies for use of pigs in the Tuesday protests to symbolize their contempt for the Members of Parliament.

In fact, Mwangi says that he and other organizers had actually planned to have 349 pigs to represent all the MPs but were set back by lack of finances.

“I am happy Members of Parliament are offended because as a Kenyan tax payer I’m offended by their courage to ask for more money. They have no shame!” he said adding, “They are lucky we arn out of pigs. If it was possible, we would have had 349 pigs but we didn’t have money for all those pigs.

Bonny_Mwangi.jpg

Mwangi also revealed that he has no idea where the pigs ended up jesting that they were gifts to the MPs. “They were our gift to MPs and you saw that they were in good company outside Parliament. In fact when the cops tried to shove them away, they would always go back because that is where they belonged. They could smell their fellow pigs,” he joked.

Responding to claims that one of the pigs was slaughtered and fed to the rest, Mwangi pointed out that the blood was bought from Dagoretti. “No pig was hurt/ slaughtered at #OccupyParliament! We had 120 litres of cow blood bought from Dagoretti slaughter house,” declared Mwangi.

MP To Sue After A Pig Was Branded With His Name

Leader of Majority Aden Duale is now planning to sue organizers of Tuesday’€™s anti-MPs protest who symbolically used pigs that feasted on blood at the gate of Parliament buildings.

Duale is irked that the activists branded one of the pigs with his name and that of fellow legislators Jakoyo Midiwo and Mithika Linturi.

The pig with the legislators’ names

The MP, who is also the Garissa Township legislator, is a devout Muslim whose religion forbids the association with pigs or swine that is considered unholy. I am planning to sue these fellows who branded me a pig, this is a big issue in my constituency right now,” he said in parliament.

Duale says that although the activists reserve their right to picket, it is unacceptable to tarnish his name as a practicing Muslim by labeling his name on a pig feasting on blood.

“This is an insult and an affront to my religious liberty by associating me with an animal that my religion prohibits,” he said.

And Now Police Deny Dog Involvement in Dog P0rn Case

Police on Wednesday denied reports that a dog was involved in the shooting of a p0rnographic video at an apartment in Nyali estate last week.

A Swiss national and eleven women were arrested at the apartment  while allegedly shooting the  video. The twelve were initially reported to have been shooting the video with a dog. However, Kisauni DCIO Shadrack Juma, who is leading the investigations dismissed the allegation.

” To my knowledge no dog was found during the police raid,” said Juma. The Kisauni DCIO said it is unfair for the public to give false reports about the incident.

He said a team of detectives have mounted a manhunt for a Kenyan woman who allegedly colluded with him to lure girls into prostitution.
