Ghafla Poll Results:Which Music Group Is Your Favorite?Sauti Sol Vs P-Unit.

We ran a poll yesterday to find out who between P-Unit and Sauti Sol was your favorite.
So who won the poll you ask.Is it the  Still The One Singers or You Guy rappers?

I have to admit I was taken aback by the results because these two groups are equally good in their respective genres, but numbers do not lie.Without further ado ladies and gentlemen I present to you our winners.

THE MINGLE IS SET TO BRING OUT KENYA’S TOP DJS THIS WEEKEND

The Mingle is unique in the sense that it is one of the few premier events that relies solely on DJs to bring the hype.

Unlike other events that bring out artists and comedians, the Mingle focuses on DJs as the centre of attraction. This guarantees fans a total dance-fest as they party the night away after enjoying their childhood games during the day.

There shall be a major change this time around though. In previous Mingles, there have been multiple DJ booths all over Ngong racecourse. This, in my experience, was good on paper, but would bring about a cacophony of clashing sounds in some areas at the event. To solve this issue, Adrenalin in Motion, the organisers of the event, have declared that there shall be only ONE stage this time around. This will result in a unified sound throughout the whole event, and mad exposure for the DJs who get the priviledge of mixing there.

Speaking of which, the DJs for this times Mingle include bigwigs such as:

DJ Cheek-O, playing from 1pm to 5pm

DJ Andre, playing from 5pm to 7pm

DJ Protege, playing from 7pm to 9pm

DJ Kaytrixx, playing from 9pm to 11pm

and DJ Purpl, playing from 11pm to 1am.

The host/ emcee will be ‘Mad Kid’ Martin Kariuki. See you guys there!

BBA Update:”He Instilled Fear In Her” Battered Housemate’s Friend Claims.

We had earlier reported that rapper 2shotz and his better half had came out to deny physically abusing Beverly when they were together. Charity Owoh, Beverly’s best friend, took to Twitter and later did an interview with Encomium magazine to defend  Beverly.

Charity had to say this about her bestie:

”Bev can handle controversy. It was evident during the time she was dating ‘Mr I’ve never battered anyone before’ and all the things they have said about her.

While they were dating, her mother came back from America and the next thing was for him to start telling people that Beverly was doing drugs when she can’t even take alcohol.

She was in love with with him but I know he instilled fear in her. There are different stories but I don’t want to talk about it. There are some stories that led to them breaking up, that if it comes out would look totally bad for him. There are some things that if I speak about will hurt 2shotz in ways that he can never imagine. So, all the things that he is saying right now…it got to a point where he broke her sim -card because of phone calls. Who does that?”

Check out Charity’s tweet:

YouTube Channel Belonging To Renowned TPF Judge Shut Down on Copyright Infringement Grounds!

Tusker Project Fame (TPF) judge and one of Uganda’s finest divas Juliana Kanyomozi’s YouTube Channel has been shut down by management on copyright infringement grounds.

UGO reports that few days after Juliana asked music companies and promoters uploading her videos on YouTube to stop doing it for her. She announced that she would now be able to upload her music videos herself without paying any penny and it was after she created her own channel that YouTube received reports and immediately shut down her channel.

Juliana was allegedly snitched on by an unidentified ‘hater’ that the singer had copyrighted her latest music video ‘Eddiba‘. She is so upset and she has asked her fans to bare with her as she tries to get her channel back online.

Juliana YouTube

She expressed her bitterness on her Facebook page spitting fire as she says;

First I start by appreciating the work people like Din Tv, Afroberliner, Ug Pulse etc have done by uploading Ugandan videos in the past, and it hasn’t been in vain for them since they have monetized accounts and they make money from uploading those videos. However, I now own a YouTube account and upload my own videos unless I give someone else permission to do so.

How can someone report me for copyright infringement on my own video that I paid for and participated in it’s creation?? They don’t know what I go through to create my work, they don’t know what inspires me to do what I do and how much I put in emotionally, physically and financially. They don’t know what my work means to me. But they wait to benefit from a finished product.

From now moving forward, I will be uploading my own videos and whoever has been uploading my videos should therefore stop unless I give them permission to do so.

My sincere apologies to all my fans that can’t access the ‘EDDIBA’ video from my channel at the moment. I’d like to inform you that everything possible is being done to have the video back up as soon as possible.

Thank you for your love and support.

Ghafla Exclusive: She Created A Buzz On Rabbit’s “Ligi Soo” Remix Now Listen Wangechi’s Debut Single!

I received an email the other day with a track that Wangechi has done titled “Push” with her autobiography. I find such mundane facts uhm… Boring. I am all about the substance withoput the boredom. actually, the email arrived a couple of days before my return but no one wanted to touch it. They all felt only i would do this track justice.

i am not Jeff ergo our writing styles are different. i prefer to keep thing light and egotistical. He is more… suit-and-tie in a manner of speaking.

So no, I will not tell you the tale of how she was born and has grown up! This is not the discovery channel and besides,

when-i-let-a-fly-out-of-the-house-instead-of-killing-it_o_642479.jpg

I kid you not! Indeed I am! But I jest,

TALKING_SHIT_ON_THE_INTERNETS.jpg

Anyway, in the nature of mixtapes -yes this song is off her mixtape titled “Consume”- the track samples some classic hip hop beats but the lass does anything but disappoint! The lass is nothing but sheer revelation in as far as hip hop is concerned!

And I am something of a hip hop purist! If it isn’t hip hop, it’s garbage as far as i am concerned so trust me when I say the track push is an offering worthy of Uncle Chim Tuna’s listening!

IMG-20130804-WA0004.jpg

The song’s content tells a tale of a woeful night out when a lad who stammers attempts to hit on our heroine. she lets us know that this is going to be a long night for her but the deejay saves her by playing her favourite tune. But lad just won’t relent -I’m sure alot of lasses can relate to this!

But enough of the blow by blow account of the track! Listen to it for yourself. It’s right HERE!

Exclusive: K24 Hiring Barely A Week After Dismissing 70+ Journalists

sIt all now seems like a soap opera as just about a week after Mediamax Network unceremoniously sent packing at least 70 journalists (some of whom had been poached from other media houses) drawn from its broadcast wing, information reaching our news desk indicates that K24 is currently hiring new workers!

According to a reliable source who sought anonymity, Mediamax is currently conducting interviews with a view to fill the positions vacated last Friday. However, what still lingers in most pundits’ minds is why the station is hiring new journalists when in the first place the management cited low incomes from their revenue streams which could not sustain the fired journalists’ high wage bill.

The past week has been a tough one for scribes whose job securities have been in jeopardy considering a total of 100 journalists have been axed from their jobs.

Meanwhile, on Waiyaki Way, 27 Kiss TV journalists are headed home after being fired!

Cynthia Nyamai Speaks On Her Divorce Experience.

Divorce is a fairly new thing in African society and many people do not know how to deal with it.When a divorce happens its more often than not that fingers are pointed at the woman .Former presenter and mogul Cynthia Nyamai talks about her divorce experience in the August issue of Drum Magazine.

‘Divorce is the most painful thing you can ever go through.I have had close relatives and friends die. This pain is worse. There are things I should have understood about myself first.I talked about it in my first interview with True Love and said society won’t tell me I am a bad woman because I was divorced.I was wrong. It happened to me its a very painful process

Cynthia further adds ‘I went through severe depression .Doctors could not figure out what was wrong.I would be up all night,no sleep and so many questions’

So how did she deal with all the pain?At first she resorted to guzzling alcohol and  cough syrup but with time she found a positive result-oriented way of coping with her divorce and joined Alabastron.

Alabastron is an organization that helps women cope with difficult emotional situations and overcome self defeating patterns through building self-esteem and self awareness and confidence.

She now says that she is a happy person and has learned that one should learn to forgive, not for someone else but yourself.

After K24, Kiss TV Now Kicks Out Journalists

Barely a week after Mediamax Network Limited dismissed at least 73 journalists drawn from its radio and TV sections, employees at Radio Africa Group’s Kiss TV have faced the same fate. Reports indicate that the Patrick Quarcoo-owned TV station is in the process of trimming down its baggage employees.

According to the head of news at Easy FM and Q FM, Robin Njogu, 27 staff members have been shown the door at the TV station.

Robin Njogu tweet

Njogu alleges that the CEO, Mr. Quarcoo says that Kiss TV has been making losses amounting to KSh10M a month since March, something that an anonymous source at the TV station confirms.

The source reveals that just like K24, Kiss TV’s wage bill supersedes the total income something that’s hurtful for any profit-making business. The anonymous source adds that indeed the 27 are going home and that the dismissal letters were being dispatched by the time this article was published.

Keep it Ghafla! for the full list when we get our hands on it.

BBA Update:Battered Housemate Ex Boyfriend Comes Out To Defend Himself

Beverly Osu recently revealed that she had been battered by her ex who was a rapper, she however did not offer any names.

This information went viral with even some Nigerian online publications speculating that 2Shotz  was the man responsible.Apparently they dated a while back and were on their way to riding off into the sunset.

Bev and 2Shotz back in the day.

This claims prompted 2 shots to release a statement denying ever laying a hand on the young lass.

Throw Back Picture: Sauti Sol’s Bien As A Baby!

I like seeing Kenya’s top celebrities as children. No, not for any perverse reason, but simply because it reminds us all that every journey of 1,000 miles begins with the first step. And with that, allow me to share a picture of a younger Bien.

And trust me when I say that you will never believe that the suave lad we know today, a man at the pinnacle of his career and a man whom our very own Sue Watiri describes as “African handsome” evolved out of this clueless little child:

Bien is the circled child.

Kenya’s Hip-Hop Pope Has Been Anointed! And If You Aren’t Amicus Papum He’s Mean Muggin!

It would seem Hip Hop is in for a revival! And the flag bearer is none other than the Pope himself! The lad has come up with the brand of music I love: gritty hard hitting tunes.

And the best part is that even the video is well done! It’s a notch above the rest. and the video director opted to treat Kenyans to a cinematographic treat that makes Nairobi seem like gangsta’s paradise!

And the video has people mean mugging and looking hard! Something that I really like in hip hop music! And as far as trap music goes, this is one of the best to come out of East Africa.

To be fair, I had been sitting on this video because I had forgotten about it generally because I am a scatter brain and also because I have too much to do seeing as administration of any company is no joke.

But I slapped myself for sitting on these and with that said, enjoy!

President Uhuru Attends Miss Karun’s Listening Party (Photos)

As an artist you know your career is on the right track when the Head of State graces your album launch/ listening party. Well, former Camp Mulla member, Miss Karun is as lucky as a four-leaf clover because last night she went down in the history books as the first Kenyan artist to host the Commander-in-Chief at her listening party.

The auspicious invite-only listening party for her debut solo album was held at Muthaiga Golf Club preceding the self-titled album launch set for this Friday. Karun shared her excitement on twitter prior to the listening party calling herself blessed and expressing her awe in the good fortune.

Miss Karun tweet

Miss Karun has been working on her new album which also involved a documentary of her journey dubbed ‘Ladybug Project’. Early in July, she released her first single of the album dubbed ‘Photographs’ which has been well received by the public.

Here are images from the event;

Camp Mulla’s Newest Video Out! Check It Out Here!

After the “break up” was announced, fans were in a state of delirium. many asked us to tell them that it wasn’t so. That Kenya’s first truly superstar group was calling it a day to pursue such mundane things as degrees? Calm your tits lad, I’m being sarcastic!

But when all was said and done, two of the original members said, “You know what? We have a good thing going. Let’s keep it going.” and they have kept Camp Mulla alive. And on this track, they have featured Collo and Tiri -an upcoming artist signed to Sub-Saharan records.

And the track “Chafua” was born. The track was directed by Kevin Bosco Jnr who gave it a rather awesome psychadelic touch. The instrumentals and sound engineering were done by Kus Ma and Big Soul.

But how good is the track? Well, on this one I will just have to let you listen and let us know what you think of the track. Check it out below and share some creative and constructive criticism in the comment section.

Attention Hiphop Head! Think You Can Rap? I Bet You This Young Female Emcee Raps Circles Round Anyone On Your Top 5!

The first time i heard of this lass, she had just released a track called “Oyela” and my oboy Adam Wagwau couldn’t get enough of her jam and he insisted that everyone in the office listen to her and I cannot say I was disappointed!

On the contrary, I was impressed! She has a fresh outlook and insight on what hip-hop is all about. She takes you back to the real roots of hip-hop: having fun. but we shall debate the merits of real hip hop another day.

The lass has gone and done something bold once again. Like Kanye, the young lass Dora has made hip hop transcend raw talent and it’s now an art form! She has taken the instrumentals to Lil Simz “Marilyn Monroe” and rapped over them and turned the track into art.

Trust me when I say that she beats any rapper you can think of in your top 5. Give me any East African list and if she doesn’t feature simply because she is yet to break through to the mainstream, then I, Uncle Chim tuna will have to slap you with your pathetic list!

Think not? Listen to the track “Press Rewind” and come up with flaws!

This amount will pay for their university education for the entire four years. In total KSh 9 million and four scholarships are up for grabs at the Zuku Basketball University League.

<Miss that shot again mutha*shut yo mouth*! I dare you! I double dare you mutha*shut yo mouth*!>

The countrywide league which ends in October will cost Zuku a total 50 million shillings. International electronics giant Samsung, has also sponsored the event to a tune of 8.2 million shillings. Yes, this will be Miss Karun’s first solo project since Camp Mulla broke up earlier this year for various reasons. In her short career, she has now made history in various ways, being the first Kenyan to have the president at their album launch, the first Kenyan to be nominated for the BET Awards, among many other accolades. Uhuru Kenyatta has been making moves to prove that he is concerned with the entertainment scene in Kenya. Just last month, team Ghafla! was invited to State House as the only online news outlet at the Editors Guild breakfast. Eagerly awaiting what he does next.

Kenyans can be low down dirty people! Especially in regard to their own! Omo Lasgidi dey protect dey own but not Nairobi folk! If anything, it seems they enjoy throwing their own under the bus! And in usual buck-boy fashion, they have chosen to sacrifice their own at the altar of nonsense!

And make no mistake about it, Emmy Kosgei is a strong, beautiful woman who doesn’t need anyone’s validation. She is leading her life and I suggest you do the same. And oh yeah, here’s what the twitter waste men were regurgitating:

Ringtone is Back!

Ringtone is back; this time not showing you his latest toy though. The Gospel singer recently did a remix of his hit son, Jubilation featuring other Gospel artistes. The song which created a lot of buzz especially during the general elections campaigns has now been remixed with a new touch.

Jubilation is the song being related to the year of jubilee as Kenya is currently 50 years old.

Ringtone saw this as something that connects Kenyans together and he also connected artistes from different geographical jurisdiction in this new song, to represent the different tribes. The artistes in the song include Maurine Awuor , Ben Githae , Lillian Rotich and Mbuvi.

Photos: Exposing the Super Hot Young Femcee Who Killed It in “Ligi Soo Remix”

When Rabbit a.k.a. Kaka Sungura dropped his “Ligi Soo” remix he also unveiled some of the hottest (both in appearance and lyrical prowess) female rappers this industry boasts of. Among them was the lovely Petra.

Apart from the fact that she’s the chic that killed it with a sick flow in the remix, not much is known about her. So how about I uncover her to you? Leggo…

Petra Bockle (stage name is PETRA) is a rapper/singer and also a make-up artiste born in Kenya to a Kenyan mum and Seychellois dad. The 18 year old femcee has one sister and brother who live at their family home in Diani.

She lost her dad in 2004 at a tender age of 9 and has been brought up by her single mother.

Petra started her music when she was 9 and by the time she was 11 she was given a chance to hit the studio at Ufuoni Records where she worked with artists such as Ukoo Flani among others.

Her genre is mainly rap; she is commonly known for doing urban hip-hop and fusing rap with ragga, trance and any type of afro-beat.

Petra has worked with Sheila Kwamboka (former BBA contestant and radio presenter at HBR). She then worked with Rabbit on his “Ligi Soo” remix which featured artists like Madtraxx, Mejja, Chiwawa among others.

She says she’s influenced by Wyre and her main producers are Dillie and Saint P who previously worked at Homeboyz Production house. Some of the singles she’s recorded, “mind yo own biz”, “show em”, “mkali wao”, “hits”, “now you know” and “in a trance” yet to be released but are in the pipeline.

Petra recently moved to Nairobi to be able to concentrate on her music.

You can keep in touch with her on social media (Facebook; petra-music Kenya and on Twitter; petra_music_ke)

I love music and am always open to try any form of new music.Today I sampled a dance hall song by a Kenyan group based in Boston called C.E.O and my God I was blown away!

This group is made up of singer Nelly and rappers Verse and KenyanKev.They are a group of friends who came together mid October 2012 with one common goal which was to use their talents and to entertain and things just fell into place.

In as little as over three months CEO has managed to work with Kenyan producers like Kevin Provoke, Gigz of Xtrim records and Felix Mwangi. These Kenyan producers are all about their craft and have helped them create good quality music.

Get Ready For Yet Another Awesome Santa Fe Party

Oh my! Last week was mad! Last Thursday was sheer madness at Santa Fe! Actually, the photo gallery is coming up soon. But away from that and onto what matters.

This Thursday there will be yet another sick party being thrown down by DJs Hassan and Andy -the same ones from the KBC lifestyle show Homegrown. And trust me when I say that the pair mix up a storm! And it’s in no tea cup.

And check out the offer they have for you:

On Thursday from 5pm to 9pm (yes, that’s right! 4 WHOLE HOURS!) you’ll get 6 of ANY of our local beers for ONLY 1000/ That works out to about 160 bob per drink. Sounds like an absolutely amazing deal to me.

For those who prefer ‘makali,’ you can get a 750ml bottle of vodka and 4 Redbulls for JUST 3500/=. The value here is undeniable.

If a bottle is a bit too much for you on a Thursday night, well how about some shots? Shots served at Santa Fe tomorrow start at 150 bob, so bring your friends and girlfriends to enjoy a fantastic night out at Tap Out Thursdays.

I Was Not The Prettiest Girl:Brenda Wairimu

When you think ‘beautiful Kenyan’ actress Brenda Wairimu is more often than not  among the first images that pop-up in your head.

From humble beginnings at Changing times,Brenda has come a long way since then and has a to-die-for role in East Africa’s first soap opera Mali alongside the soft spoken Daniel Peter and the Sassy Mkamzee Mwatela. She plays the cute but entitled Lulu Mali a dance like a butterfly sting like a bee kind of role which she pulls off perfectly.

B as she is known as her fans has not always been the stunning swan we know now,she confesses that she was once an ugly duckling. This is what she had to say about life in her teens”I was not the prettiest girl, not even in the top 5!Never got any letters from our brother school*sad face*,this left me with alot of time to study, that is why i did very well in high school.Although even with that I still was not sure what i wanted to be,who i really was or even where I saw myself in future.I made wonderful friends in my teenage life though.”

Are You A Gor Mahia Die Hard Fan? Then You Need To Download This Album!

If you know you love Gor Mahia then why not get Man Wazimu’s album off Mdundo.com? And just who is Man Wazimu? Well, he is the phenom that lives up to the wise proverb that a prophet is never appreciated at home.

His music is appreciated as far as Costa Rica but here at home, very few know him. except for Baba Ghafla who has been bumping to the man’s music for quite a while now! And he has conscious music for every situations from “Emergency Pills” which is a song about the risky sexual behaviour Kenyan youth are currently engaging in.

But for any Gor Mahia fan, the gem of the album is the ode to the legendary football club (courtesy of my mummy however, I happen to be an AFC Leopard).

So go to Mdundo.com and check out the first reggae album ever to be on the platform.

Nonini Terms Plea to Get Saved “Cheap Publicity”

Few hours ago, we posted an open letter by a budding Gospel artiste calling on Nonini to cross over to Gospel music. It wasn’t long before the “genge godfather” has since responded to the letter.

His response: “Cheap publicity”.

Nonini response

Adding, “I would love to engage him in a conversation about this so called “being saved” blanket people hide under”

And when Prince G, a Gospel artiste, tried to intervene, Nonini asked to be left alone.
