K24’s Jimmy Gathu Caught Pants Down! His Interview With Sonko Was A Fraud! (VIDEO)

Jimmy Gathu is the face of K24’s morning breakfast show. He is touted as an unbiased and uncompromising interviewer but all that came under severe scrutiny when a video was leaked and posted on Nairobi Wire.

And in the interview that was carried by K24, a behind the scenes camera captured Jimmy Gathu getting coached on how Sonko wanted to be interviewed and I am left wondering whether the man has any integrity because unlike me, he is a journalist.

Sonko wanted to be asked certain questions and not others and Jimmy Gathu in an attempt to ingratiate himself to the Nairobi senator went along with the dog and pony show fooling Kenyans into thinking the interview was legit.

Check out the interview and pay attention to the manner in which K24 which is a company owned whether directly or indirectly by the president of the Republic of Kenya.

This was an awesome win for journalism and journalistic integrity:

When Rabbit aka Kaka Sungura recently dropped his 11-minute long ‘Ligi Soo’ remix it instantly became the talk of the city with KOT trolling the track from here to Rongai.

Informally dubbed, ‘Ligi Soo Africa Remix’, Rabbit will feature Nigeria’s M.I. a.k.a. Mr. Incredible and Hip Hop Pantsula a.k.a. HHP from ‘Mzansi’.

Let’s wait and see how the blend of Kenyan, Nigerian and South African music will come out. For now enjoy ‘Ligi Soo Kenyan remix’;

DJ Mantixx Responds to His Student & Fellow DJ’s Scathing Allegations

“Dj Slahver, stop spreading false rumours. I remember very well how you were amazed to meet me at a certain shop where I was dropping my mixes” warns DJ Mantix as he responds to some contemptuous allegations levelled against him by his former student at Evolution DJ Academy.

Thing is, last week, DJ Slahver demeaned the Candy n Candy Records deejay saying that discrediting his efforts at the deejaying school and even went ahead to say that he’s the one that schooled Mantix and not the other way round. Hmmm, talk of burning bridges.

Mantix adds that it was 2008 when he invited Slahver to his office (Hepta Entertainment) and beseeched Mantix to help him learn how to spin. Affectionately, he agreed and invited him to start classes.

However, somewhere along the way issues cropped up and they had to part ways. Mantixx then left for South Sudan in 2011 and upon his return he signed to Evolution Media. Again, DJ Slahver approached him requesting for a partnership. With a good heart, Mantix agreed and even recommended him for a position at Evolution Media.

But then again, Slahver decided to bite the hand that fed him by dragging Mantixx’s name in the mud. Anyhow, to cut a long story short, Mantix is asking Slahver to act professionally.

“I really respect my colleague and my student but DJ Slahver should grow up”, concludes Mantix.

Solomonic Advice to Musicians from Prominent Music Producer

Musicians make mistakes, that’s a fact, and part of the reason why their career is vegetated. However, here’s a chance to make that right; producer Kevin Pro-voke has penned down his thoughts about how artistes can take their music to the next level.

Here’s that, read and learn;

It’s hard being a musician these days. In addition to writing/performing music, we’re often bombarded with the need to maintain an online presence, deal with licensing contracts, book tours, work with promoters, find sponsors, record/mix/master/distribute CD’s, and more. Because the work can be overwhelming, it’s easy to fall into bad habits and do things that hurt, not help our careers. Here are some of the bad habits that musicians are guilty of:

We focus on the wrong things. It’s easy to get obsessed with filling the booking calendar and end up over-playing instead of being strategic about shows. On social media, we look at the wrong numbers, focusing on the number of followers rather than building up engagement. We need to take a step back and look at our long term goals, instead of focusing on immediate urges.

We want a shortcut to everything. I get more emails asking about an easy way to get a sponsorship or booking a show than anything else. The easiest way to get anything in the music industry is to do the hard work of building up a local fan base and create a unique niche for yourself. That’s when you can make the pitch. As Beverly Sills states, “there are no shortcuts to anyplace worth going.”

We copy other acts. It’s good to learn from others’ examples, but you need to create something totally unique for yourself. Look for untapped markets where you can make fans in unexpected places. Have a unique voice or approach to social media, come up with unique pieces of merch, try new ways to promote. Don’t copy another act’s image. Imitation might be a form of flattery, but it does nothing to flatter the person doing the imitating.

The “magic solution.” This goes along with the shortcut: we often look for the next golden egg that can help launch the career. At first, everyone thought it was acquiring thousands of “friends” on Myspace, then it was licensing. Sometimes it is a national tour, others, the “solution” is getting a song on the radio. Reality check: there is no single solution that works for everyone. This is why I say that the best social media site for bands is the one your fans is on, not any site created by artists or made for bands. You have to find what works for your target audience, then do those things well.

We try and appeal to everyone. Instead of thinking of your target audience in terms of a demographic collection (i.e, 14-38 year olds), try to narrow it down to a single person. Who is your most enthusiastic fan? What sets them apart? What are they interested in? What is it about you that resonates with them? Once you determine the one person (rather than a generic group), forget about everyone else and just focus on other people like them. You’ll make better decisions and you’ll see better ROI on your efforts.

Provoke_studio.jpg

Not practicing for performance. Many acts might rehearse and get their songs down tight in the garage, but they don’t seem to be practicing for performance. In other words, even if the songs are tight, there the live show has issues: they don’t know how to set-up and clear the stage quickly, transitions between songs are long or loose, band members necessarily are messing around on their instruments during sound check or between songs (or “live” tuning), they don’t know how to address the audience. Try taking video of rehearsals and shows, compare the two. Time them. Fine tune it. If you want to be a professional, don’t act like an amateur band.

Do you find yourself slipping into one of these mindsets?

We have more resources for musicians than ever before, opportunities abound. However, bands also have to work harder than ever before as well. So before you just dive in, take a moment and think about your long term goals, develop a business strategy, and think about how you can give value to your most enthusiastic fans.

What’re some habits you find yourself falling into?

Celebrity Style Icon Of The Week: Is Octopizzo!

COctop0izzo has the type of frame stylists really love! Like Jay Z once rapped, “…So tall and lanky/ my suit it should thank me/ I make it look good sitting on this ghetto Meyer Lansky!” And indeed, Octo is tall and lanky.
And his background not withstanding, he hasn’t adopted the stereotypical mode of dressing associated with people from the ghetto. You know what I am talking about; he doesn’t pull that “ob” look.

And that’s because Octo is different. he isn’t narrow minded about fashion and style and he goes all out when he wants to express himself through his attire. He has a wide range of looks and some are more ecclectic than others but he pulls them off with such confidence that even his most outlandish couture still looks good and comes together on his frame.

So stop hating and start appreciating Kenyan boy and pick up a thing or two from this weeks style icon: Numba Nane’s finest baby!

Note the harem pants!

Notice the traditional Kikuyu hat!

Top 20 Comedians in Africa: Who made the list, who didn’t?

There’s a list we stumbled across, claiming to have aggregated the top 20 comedians in Africa.

Let me start straight away by saying “HA-LLE-LUJAH!” Churchill is NOT on the list. In my personal opinion, Churchill is the UNFUNNIEST Kenyan I know. Apparently the NATION ITSELF agrees with me.Remember the awkward silence when he tried some off the cuff jokes at the BBA opening ceremony? I’m convinced it’s his horrible jokes that made Africa not vote for Huddah. They were just put off by that (excuse my french) crap.

And what’s with that Teacher whatever. Seriously…… Why is any grown adult still laughing at shrubs? Even in high school, it was just LAME to be laughing at those. If someone really effed up it would more likely elicit an “Oooooooooooooooh SNAP!!!” than laughter. It’s like laughing when sex is brought up. Come on, grow up. SHRUBS ARE NOT FUNNY.

And hey, how about actually doing funny interviews when guests come on your show? Musicians, politicians… Obama went on Ellen and you know what he did….. HE DANCED. He didn’t answer foreign policy questions, he didn’t talk about his stint as a Senator, HE DANCED. STOP ASKING PEOPLE NON-FUNNY QUESTIONS. I’m supposed to laugh like I’m watching Letterman, or The Daily Show GOD-DAMMANIT!!!

I mean, even Redykyulass were better. Yeah, I know, people got tired of it and claimed it was monotonous, but comeon. That ish was straight up FUNNY. The PERFECT combination of slapstick comedy (Nyambane), character comedy (KJ) and insult comedy (Tony). Those were some goodtimes. Goodtimes.

No, I’m not claiming to be a great comic. But I’m gonna call out bullshit when I see it. (Once again excuse my french)

So when I saw this list I got excited! Someone actually found out who the real funny comics were!!!!

I Am Not Married. I Have Never Been Married:Ramah Nyang

All you ladies can breathe a sigh of relief, turns out the news published by The Standard group about Ramah Nyang being married are untrue.

The renowned presenter contacted us and left a message which I have to admit left a bad taste in my mouth and a sneer that might be on my face for a while.I find it discourteous to make demands like an entitled little brat ,but that is just my opinion.Stars like Wilbroda and  have called us up to pull-down articles or correct something and were very courteous.Very cultured and professional too.

Anyhow Here is the message

Hello Sue: I have just read your article on Ghafla, citing a September 6 article from the Standard which claimed I got married in mid-August. That article, and yours by extension, is a gross fabrication. I am not married. I have never been married. Retract that article, and put up an apology.

DISCLAIMER We were simply syndicating what the Nairobian (September 6-12)and The Standard have done and we were not in any way involved in the deception

Uncle Chim Tuna To Gospel Artists: Stop Calling Ghafla’s C.E.O! More Gospel Exposes Coming!

Last week I promised to drop exclusive proof about the under the table dealings being undertaken by our gospel artists and true to my words, I have begun today. And in that article I foresaw the reaction that would follow my expose.

Baba Ghafla has been receiving calls from all sorts of individuals many of whom are more willing to shoot the messenger rather than deal with the real problems plaguing the gospel industry.

Baba Ghafla has been inundated with calls for take downs and whatnot and we have agreed that in light of the heat being generated by my article, we aren’t going to pull them down. Neither will we slow down.

LET ME REITERATE THAT, TAKE DOWN?

So ladies and gentlemen, prepare yourselves for more exposes. Do not ask for whom the bell tolls, for it tolls for thee!

Young Rich is a series that airs on K24 that seeks to bring to light the wealthiest young individuals and give their story about how they came to success. And this past week they had a new installment for everyone. They introduced a man whose net worth is reportedly in the hundreds of millions.

And the man of whom I speak of is called Danson Muchemi. And he is the techpreneur that came up with Jambo Pay and he has a second company called Tribe Web. And he talks about his come up and how he struggled.

Tv Heart-Throb Weds!

I have sad news for you ladies,CCTV news heart throb Rama Nyang has allegedly joined the likes of Emmy Kosgei ,P-unit’s Boneye and Larry Asego in the wedding bandwagon.

According to the Nairobian His wedding took place about three weeks  ago at Matasia Ngong at his parent’s residence. It was a hush-hush invite only affair.

Speaking to Standard earlier Rama  said this about his ideal woman “She has to be really smart, self-driven and extremely ambitious. Hot eye candy is important no matter all the cliche statements about beauty only being skin-deep. Believing that is living in a fantasy. She has to have an open mind too, be willing to change ideas as necessary or tolerate those she does not agree with. She shouldnt have this silly belief that she has to change who I am, also known as a sort of “God complex” if you will. Either take me as I am or walk. And that goes both ways.

Hmmm…i guess a lucky lady fit the bill

Huddah Monroe Gives Her Two Cents On Skin Bleaching!

In Africa the use of skin bleaching products is becoming an increasingly widespread phenomenon despite the risk associated with it.Harmful ingredients such as mercurous chloride and hydroquinone have been found in bleaching products.

According to nairaland.com, Hydroquinone, reduces the skin’s natural protection against damaging ultraviolet (UV) radiation as it suppresses the production of melanin, this has a hazardous effect. Apart from being carcinogenic the chemical  penetrates the skin and causes irreversible damage to connective tissue resulting to  premature aging.

Continuous use of such products can cause disfiguring rashes, unsightly blotches And if the chemicals in some of the these cosmetics are absorbed into the bloodstream, they can cause damage to the liver, the kidneys, or the brain-even causing organ failure.

In Kenya, one of our top musicians Brenda of the mos-mos fame has been accused of bleaching something which she has neither denied or accepted.Huddah one of Kenya’s top socialites had this to say about bleaching:

WTF: Kenyan Oscar Contender Lupita Nyong’o Claiming She’s MEXICAN

The famous Kenyan actress and acclaimed director recently became the darling of Hollywood.

Lupita Nyong’o is right in the middle of enjoying a meteoric rise to Hollywood fame. From her continental success in Shuga, an MTv miniseries, to her directorial debut In My Genes (film about views of albinism in Kenya), she gives us yet another proud moment for Kenyans.

OR DOES SHE?

But why is it when a Kenyan is firmly thrust into the limelight, does their claim to Kenyan roots disappear? But why? If it’s not athletes defecting to Qatar, to losing our claim to POTUS as “our comrade”, to Dillish initially denying her Kenyan father…… Now it seems, Lupita Nyong’o’s wiki says she was born in Mexico and educated in good old U-S-A!!! God Bless Murica.

Beats me why this happens. She’s OURS! We’re claiming this striking talent as our own. Flag and all. Here’s a couple reasons why we can’t let Mexico or ‘Murica take Lupita.

Just look at her working the understated glam at the World War Z premier
