When you think of Turkana County, one thinks of malnourished destitute looking children, cattle rustling insecurity and other vices. The newly crowned Miss Turkana Kenya is determined to change the face of Turkana.
Born and raised in Turkana the lass promises that her ‘victory will be Turkana County’s victory and Kenya at large. In the past, when people heard of the name Turkana, what came into their mind was drought, insecurity, cattle rustling and such vices. But this may not be the case. The fact that some parts are experiencing severe drought cannot be taken to be a true picture of the whole county. As has recently been discovered, Turkana has a potential to be the richest county in Kenya.
We already have oil, a huge water source which could supply the country for 70 years, minerals, archaeological sites, and tourist attraction sites. Serious irrigation is also taking place in places like Katilu, Lotubae, Nakwomoru among others.
My work as the Miss Tourism Turkana is based on five pillars: tourism, environment, investment, culture and beauty. I will use my position to create awareness about Turkana. Together with the County Government, we are encouraging investors to invest in our County in all areas of development.

The Creatives Garage brings you Kenya’s first annual creative festival. It comes with many activities, with one of the events at the three-day festival taking you back in time.
Zilizopendwa Live takes place on the second day of the festival, on the 30th of November at the GreenHouse along Ngong’ Road between 5.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. Come out and experience live music from Ziki with her band, Azz, Linda, Peter Nyabuto and Ashley Nyambura.

Literary phenom, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, will be in the country for a series of events dubbed ‘Reflections On A Decade.’ The first one being A Lecture On Americanah taking place this Friday, 29th November between 2.30 p.m. and 4.00 p.m. at Taifa Hall (University of Nairobi). Entry is free with registration for the event taking on the Kwani? Website.
Chimamanda Adichie Ngozi is a 36-year old author, most famous for her books, Purple Hibiscus (2003) and Half A Yellow Sun (2006). She has also written The Thing Around Your Neck (2009) and Americanah earlier this year.

After years of waiting, Kenyan car enthusiasts can now have a sigh of relief after ‘Top Gear’ finally made Kenya its home. Recently, NTV launched a unique TV show that touches all aspects of motoring; from trucks to tractors, basic to luxury to pick-ups, vans and more, just like UK’s ‘Top Gear’.

Celebrated and equally controversial radio presenter, Ciku Muiruri has quit her job at Classic 105. Ciku told her listeners that she is quitting her Classic 105 Overdrive show but remained tight-lipped about why she’s leaving the admirable radio job.
Here’s her statement;
My dear, dear friends … I have been on this radio journey for an amazing 15 years. Capital FM, Kiss 100, Easyfm and now Classic 105. What a ride!!!!
I’m so thankful for the laughs, the tears, the lessons, the amazing people I have spoken to and the amazing people I have met. But alas, it is time to hang up my headphones and switch off my microphone. Hellen Keller said that the best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – They must be felt with the heart.

Voice of the youth, Machel Waikenda, returns this Thursday with another session of #AskWaikenda. The aim is to empower youth, provide mentorship and capacity building.
#AskWaikenda is a weekly engagement run by #AskWaikenda mentors for the youth on key issues affecting their lives and livelihood. The engagment takes place every Thursday on Twitter between 12.00 and 6.00 p.m.
This Thursday’s edition will be about opportunities for youth in the arts and sports, Uwezo Fund and Youth Fund. So, today oin Machel as he answers all questions regarding this and engage him using the hashtag, #AskWaikenda.

So in this episode, former Presidential candidate, Mohammed Abduba Diba is driven to his “boiling point”.‘Mwalimu’ Dida is asked to appear on a TV talk show and blatantly tell a lady onset that she’s fat and needs to shed off her weight by getting on ‘Dida Diet’ (Remember the diet? “…a third of food, a third of water then the other third is breathing space”) but he’s reluctant.
However, he’s given every reason to get on talk show and he finally agrees that he’ll advice the lady to take his diet amidst complains that that is testing his manhood. Jeff then throws a spanner in the work by asking Dida to promise to tell off the lady for putting on a bikini yet she doesn’t have a bikini body.
He however protests that he’s being “coached” something that he’s not comfortable with.
The plot then thickens when he’s asked whether he will give the ‘D’ if he’s asked to (D for Dida diet), upon which he accepts though reluctantly.

They toured the General Assembly as well as Africa’s most energy efficient building. Soon after, they rode to Royal Media where they spent time with top radio personalities Chris Okinda of Hot 96 Fm and on Radio Citizen with Willy M. Tuva of Radio Citizen. She reveals that this will be her first ever media course and is set to enroll at Stanford University in California early next year. The university is one of the world’s leading research and teaching institutions. The radio queen will be on the Distance Learning programme with the University sending her the reading materials.
However, she will have to travel to California for orientation.
