Papa Shirandula Actor Deals With Loan Defaulter Fittingly

Sometimes pals come to you asking to be given ‘soft loans’ with the promise of spotting you back as soon as they lay their hands on some cash. However, there are those sneaky pals who start the mouse-cat games and as a creditor you’re left with limited options.

So, Papa Shirandula’s Mr. Araka Smart (Gerald Langiri) found himself in a similar situation. However, instead of using force, he opted for a more diplomatic way; shaming them.

“Dear Person who owes me money and now you are ignoring me,

Its amazing how important I was when you were in need. Desperately begging for help as you did not have any other person to turn to but me. You knew very well I am not a billionaire or millionaire and even calling myself a thousandnaire is still kind of a stretch. I however listened to you and helped you out in your time of need and sacrificed that ksh 50/100/200/500/1000/10,000 that I probably would have found some good use for, to lend to you in the agreement that you will pay me in a weeks or two’s time.

The time for repayment came and passed and I dint hear from you. I’ve been trying to call you ever since and your phone suddenly doesn’t work and you somehow also have forgotten to text back. Oh, there was the day you picked up and said “Aii, yaani tunasumbuana na pesa kidogo hivi?? Sonko kama wewe unanisumbua na pesa mtoto hivi?? Nitakulipa wacha pressure”

Dear person who owes me money and now has become rude, I am sorry for disturbing your peace and kwa kukusumbua. I am really happy that you are no longer in need. Truly happy that you can now have the decency to not even just pick up the phone and give me another lie.

Here is what you need to understand however dear person who owes me money and have now become rude, its really not about the money. True, its actually pesa kidogo that I can let you keep. Its actually pesa kidogo that I’d probably spend in one day eating pizza at Pizza inn. Its actually pesa kidogo and I’ll probably spend much more on a weekend in one sitting watching a game of football. Let me tell right now to keep that money and I will stop kukusumbua but just know, it wasnt about the money and I’ll tell you what it is about: It is a matter of principal. It is a matter of you lied to me and took me for granted. It is a matter of you keeping your word. It is a matter of trust. I trusted you to give you that pesa kidogo in the hope of you will pay me back at a particular agreed time. So now it has become a matter of I cant trust you at all and if you cant be trusted with hio pesa kidogo, do you expect to be trusted na pesa kubwa the next time you are in need (God forbid).

Dear person who owes me money and now cant seem to pay back, I would like to thank you for teaching me a priceless life long lesson: “do not lend out money you are not ready not to get back especially to strangers””

Lupita Nyongo Named One Of The Best Dressed Women In Hollywood (Photos)

Many Kenyans have been to Hollywood but so far none has been as successful as Lupita Nyong’o. I am practically losing count of the accolades that Lupita has won in Hollywood following her excellent role as Patsey in 12 years a slave.

Apart from being lauded for her silver screen performance she is also making a splash on the red carpet. She has mastered the act of red carpet dressing and that is why Vogue named her one of the best dressed  celebrities in Hollywood

So how does Lupita feel about being considered a fashion star ? “Wonderful,” she says. “It’s definitely a bonus thing. It was in no way my agenda when I started.”
Here are some of the outfits that have cemented her position as one of Hollywood’s best dressed.

And everybody and their aunties have also googled and googled his new girlfriend to no avail. But while gossip sites are keen to scream about his new girlfriend, Owen has managed to keep her away from the limelight.

However, last night during Malaika Awards, the award-winning singer, for the first time, unveiled his fiance, Faridah Wambui, in public. Yep. They are about to get married in what  is expected to be an invite-only white wedding slated for sometime early next year.

Wahu reveals how she Struggled to Get Pregnant

When you’re trying to get pregnant and those pee sticks show minus signs month after month, it can feel like you’re the only one who’s having fertility issues. But you’re not alone – celebs, models, singers and more have all had problems in the baby-making department, too. However, not everyone is courageous enough to talk about their experiences like Wahu.

After her first pregnancy, the award-winning singer never realized how hard it would be for her to get pregnant until she tried getting her second baby. After months of speculation from fans and gossip sites, Wahu, finally came clean about her pregnancy.

Speaking for the first time about her second pregnancy shortly after unveiling her new baby to the public, Wahu spoke of how difficult it was becoming pregnant. Getting pregnant wasn’t a walk in the park.

Posting on her blog, Baby Love Network, Wahu explains how it was such a hustle getting pregnant. “ Time flies! My little Nyakio is now almost 4 months old…man!” begins Wahu.

“Seems like just the other day when i was running up and down taking all sorts of healthy things in a bid to get pregnant. I must say getting PG this time around was not as easy as the first. With Tumi, I didn’t have to try at all, but this time, I had to put effort in the effort; I guess every experience is different. So…I did get pregnant!”

Now you know…read HERE how much Wahu reveres Nameless for being the best dad to her daughters.

This Is What Selina Of Mother-In-Law Thinks Of Ian Mugoya

While celebrities such as the gorgeous Julie Gichuru are adored by fans all over the country, others find themselves in the most hated list. And one of them is Ian Mugoya.

The Str8 Up host is loved and hated on in equal measure. The women are infatuated by him but are still in denial and the lads hate on him because women are passionate about him. Actually no one seems to have a solid reason to hate him.

Despite all the vitriol hurled towards him, someone else does not seem to have a problem with the lad and that is Catherine Kamau. You know her from her role as Selina in Mother- in -law a woman who has to deal with a drunken husband, snotty step daughter and an overbearing nosey mother in law. This is what Selina had to say about Ian :Ian Mugoya… we love to hate him BT hey he is actually very interesting… #donjudgebookbycover

The Richest County Meets For The Second Day

The Kenya Diaspora Conference Expo & Diaspora Golf Cup Tournament 2013, which began yesterday and closes tomorrow, continues today.

The Kenya Diaspora Conference Expo & Diaspora Golf Cup Tournament 2013 is a unique conference put together by the Kenya Diaspora Initiative & Diamond Media in-conjunction with other stakeholders like Nation Media Group, KQ, Foreign Affairs Ministry, Vision 2030, KTB, Kenya Invest, KBA, Immigrations Department among other partners, who have come together to take part in the upcoming conference. The conference will take place between December 19th and 21st, 2013 at Safari Park Hotel.

This conference is the first of its kind to be held in the country. The first Homecoming Conference was hosted by the office of the Prime Minister in Dec 2011 ‘as it was more of a strategic means of collecting Diaspora support for the PM’. It didn’t meet the business aspect.

The Diaspora County is believed to be Kenya’s 48th County and the richest, remitting about 107M USD as of September, 2013 according to CBK. This is a county that can no longer be ignore. They have asked us various long and hard questions that need answers, the committee has lined up Experts in the various areas to respond and offer solutions to these challenges.

This two-day conference at Safari Park Hotel seeks to bring together Kenyans living in the Diaspora and returnees to a two day Business Investment Forum where stakeholders drawn from various sectors including the Government, Business Owners, Business Mentors & Advisors, Manufactures & Suppliers of various brands, Hoteliers, Real Estate Developers, Banking Institutions, County bosses among others will converge to discuss challenges that they face in areas of investment and available opportunities.

The key objective is to create a one stop shop where the diaspora can access information they need any time. The intention is to work with stakeholders with a common goal of creating a contact data bank where we know whom to talk to, where they live and what we can do together as Kenyans.

Over 5,000 Kenyans living in the Diaspora visit the country every Christmas to celebrate with their families. This year is special because Kenya is Celebrating the Jubilee Year, its 50th Anniversary; hence more Kenyans are coming home to mark this memorable occasion.

Top Citizen TV Analyst Beats Veteran Politician Bifwoli Wakoli

Celebrated Citizen TV’s presenter David Makali had earlier launched his bid for the Bungoma senatorial seat. He was to face off with political bigwigs such as Mr. Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya), Mr. Musikari Kombo (New Ford Kenya) and Mr. Bifwoli Wakoli (Labor Party) who were all flanked by their respective political parties.

Like every race, the curtains fell on the Bungoma senatorial race and Moses Wetangula mowed over other candidates with 148,316 votes

In second position was Musikari Kombo with 79,550 votes. Musikari was the reason that Wetangula lost his seat in the first place as he had filed a petition citing that Mr. Wetang’ula had been involved in malpractice and double registration.

Third place was taken by David Makali who beat comical politician Bifwoli Wakoli by over 200 votes .This is an achievement in itself as it was the first time he had vied for a political seat and he was the only independent candidate!

Avril Gets Involved In A Sanitary Towel Drive

Avril has been quiet musically speaking but she has been doing tonnes of acting and that has surprised me because I never would have guessed that she is such a talented actor. I am actually pleasantly surprised. But this is not about that.

She recently got engaged by Ghetto Radio to participate in a sanitary drive for under privileged girls and she jumped at the opportunity. From what I have been told, she is rather charitable like that.

She didn’t only donate3 pads, she donated her time and energy to the drive and I am happy to see she is looking pleasant, nothing like what i had expected. But I guess Avril is just full of surprises. That said, here is a picture of her during the sanitary towels drive:

Things We Want to See in Showbiz in 2014

2013 is slowly drawing to a close and it is without an iota of doubt that the entertainment scene has had its highs and lows; from the steady growth of ‘socialites’ in the industry to the ratchetness that has become a mainstay among revelers at Kenyan events to rise and rise of musicians and actors to the international level.

However, there’s more there’s to be done in the entertainment industry to make it better and compete effectively with ‘big brothers’ like the Naija music scene.

1. Higher priority given to entertainment stuff that enables everybody, especially up and coming artistes, to be physically active.

Let’s face it; penetrating Kenyan music scene is the toughest headache for any upcoming artiste. The entertainment industry in Kenya is a lot more open and competitive. It is not as easy to penetrate the Kenyan markets like in the UK and USA. This is because in Kenya, you have a population of over 42 million people that you want to satisfy. Out of this number, even though you get 500,000 of them on your side, you are satisfied. Because when you have such fan base, it’s enough to sustain you. At least you will be having like a shows per-month.

2. Artists should become professional

I receive a lot emails and texts everyday of artists asking me to “make them famous” then send their audio tracks and that’s the end of the story. Now, listen my good up and coming friends, when you do that where am I even supposed to start from? First of all, I don’t know about you, your photos are a headache to get and thirdly, yes, I will listen to your song but most times I won’t know what motivated you into doing the song! Was it the big-booty’d mami you’ve always lusted for or is it a life experience?

Since Ghafla! is all about “Killing boredom and promoting stardom”, I (and my colleagues by and large) always recommend that when you’re sending your song KINDLY attach your photos, an online link (either SoundCloud or YouTube or any other music site) to your song plus a short and INTERESTING write-up about yourself. That way, it’s easy for me as a writer to publish something about you.

And then, if you can afford it, get a manager. There are a lot of ways, but usually people come out of the woodwork when you start doing notable work, you win some kind of recognition or you make a splash online. You can also cold-call, email submissions to different agencies (though this hasn’t really caught fire in Kenya), approach a prospective manager directly at a gig, or – if the time seems right and the relationship you have is deep — ask friends who might have connections if they would be willing to introduce you. (And always demonstrate your value and gratitude as to why it’s worth them putting their reputation and time on the line for you – don’t ask this of acquaintances.)

Ideally, a manager should take 10-15% of your earnings.

3. Celebrities should take advantage of all the free resources online and realize that the industry is totally different than it used to be.

From Facebook to Twitter to Instagram to SoundCloud to YouTube; all these online platforms are free and so as an artist you should have any excuse why you shouldn’t be visible online. These online resources are ridiculously educational for anyone interested in the ups and downs of show business and the comic behind it. Octopizzo, Nonini, Muthoni the Drummer Queen, just to mention a few, are cases of artists who have built entire brands and businesses outside the traditional confines of the entertainment industry.

Online platforms have changed the industry; so is Ghafla! that’s selling directly to fans. So is Twitter. As Uncle Chim always says, “The way the industry is nowadays, no one is going to pick you. Pick yourself instead.”

Am done!

Nick Odhiambo Batters His Girlfriend: The Aftermath

Nick Odhiambo was recently exposed by Ghafla for having allegedly battered his woman. The internets were livid. Everyone has gone bananas attempting to castigate him and with good reason I must admit; he did some serious damage to the lass’ face. He really did some serious damage.

And now as the dust settles, i have to ask a question that defies conventional thinking: “When (if ever) is a man justified to put his hands on a woman?”

I can hear the women begin to roll up their sleeves -not see, hear! But lynch me only after I have made my point. When women beat their men, it is funny. However when men do the same thing, it is a travesty. I have heard women say that it is becuase women are the weaker sex ergo do little damage. That is bull.

When a women puts her hands on me, am I not entitled to defend myself/ When a woman cheats on me… That is the contentious part.

What would you do if roles were reversed and you were the cuckold? What would you do if your partner allegedly cheated on you? Then I believe is when you are shouldn’t act like an animal.

Especially then. have i been in the same situation? Aye. I am smarter now. Now I appreciate the wisdom in walking away. Uncle Chim no-longer fights women -I ended up in hospital.

On a serious note though, we can only control what we do. Nick Odhiambo I feel should have walked away. that said however, I am the last person who should judge him.

Wyre And Anto NeoSoul Surprise Village Market Youth With An Impromtu Performance(VIDEO)

People at the Village market last weekend were idly enjoying their meal, but little did they know what lay in store for them that day.

International dancehall artist Wyre and Anto NeoSoul came out of the woodworks all of a sudden to give an impromptu performance of his club hit ‘Dancehall Party.’ With no warm up or nothing, he proceeded to attract everyone from having their meals to crowding around the area he was performing in. Dancers also crowded the area to bust a move.

Why this unique show? Well it was all part of a flash mob for Bossini, the all new fashion brand from Deacons. The Bossini brand appeals to mass customers with colorful and contemporary designs. While Bossini has a large selection of styles in ladies, men’s and Kidswear, DKL is cognizant of local customer tastes, preferences, weather conditions etc in selecting the product to be sold in the local market. The expansion strategy is in line with the growing middle class as reflected by the growth of store footprint and the locations the growth is occurring especially.

Upcoming Dancehall Artist Nearly Robbed After Revealing His Video Cost 1 Million

Last week, Ghafla unveiled the next Kenyan Dancehall sensation with a bang. His video has garnered 10,000 hits and with good reason. He is pushing boundaries and he has no apologies to make about what he is doing.

The man was recently accosted after announcing to the world that he had spent slightly over a million shillings on the video. Blaqy had taken a vacation in Mombasa to celebrate the success of the song seeing as the Ghafla article on the same had spawned alot of interest in it.

But while his Mombasa vacation was without a hitch, his return to Nairobi was blighted with an incident. Just as he was making his way across town, a thief marked the lad and stalked his prey.
When he felt Blaqy was sufficiently secluded, he pounced.

But it would seem he had bitten off more than he could chew as Blaqy fought back.

And while he managed to save his phone, he was unable to save his face. he recieved a couple of lumps. However, he is safe and he still has his high-end Samsung phone.

Prezzo Chilling With Former Mungiki Leader (PHOTO)

I believe the youngins call it “Throw Back Thursday”. Well I have a treat for you. I have a picture of Prezzo chilling in his capacity as the rapcellency -but it is who he is chilling with that caught my attention.

Prezzo who is indeed a man of the people -people of all walks of life. In the picture Prezzo looks like he is cosy with former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga. I had no idea there spheres of influence would ever converge but as they say, the world is small.

In the picture, they appear to be sharing a light moment and Prezzo doesn’t seem worried or nervous. something I can assure you I would be if I was merely in the same vicinity. Check the picture out below:

Photo Of The Day: Upcoming Cartoonist Trolls Kenyan Supermarkets

I’ve been seeing comics by one Bwana Mdogo and I believe he is one to watch out for. He has an excellent sense of humor but is also very conscious in his method of delivery.

When he puts pen to paper he has the ability and connect and excite with an audience in a very unique way. He recently did a cartoon that trolled one of the worst habits in supermarkets, giving sweets in lieu of change

Must Watch: The Donkey That Carried The Cloud On Its Back (VIDEO)

The Donkey that Carried the Cloud on its Back documents and observes life before the marriage of people and land.  What this new life will bring we do not know.

It is a quirky and impressionist film about an island which appears not to change yet a looming cloud is approaching and breaking the steadiness and surety of the island’s constant way of life.

Bracketed by the two monsoon rains, the film follows Fatuma as she prepares to begin a new life and get married and concludes as she leaves her parents’ house to be wed. The documentary returns again and again to public spaces that feel the coming port; the main, sleepy square, the port site and the beach that no one visits.

The film has a universal theme and international relevance. It will be shown at international film festivals and will be released in independent cinemas.

‘Buzz’ Writer Flaunts His Lovely Girlfriend (Photos)

Not much has been documented about Buzz Writer Boniface Mwalii  but he had a brief moment  in the sun after he poked fun  at K24.The article was titled “Out With The Old In With The Old” and was viewed as powerfully worded finely veiled attack on K24.

It appeared on Sunday’s Buzz issue on the 24th of March. The article was about the notorious re-branding of K24 and the massive poaching they did from Citizen. It was side-splitting to say the least but it raised quite the storm.
Apart from writing he is also part of the management at blankets and wine. The guy recently shared pics of his girlfriend and one can tell the guy is really head over heels

The Kenya Diaspora Conference Expo & Golf Cup Tournament Stars Today

The Diaspora County is believed to be Kenya’s 48th County and the richest, remitting about 107M USD (Kshs. 9,095,000,000) as of September, 2013 according to CBK.

DJ Mo Acquires the Best DJ Decks in the World (PHOTO)

It has been a very successful year for Topa de Top deejay, Sammy Muraya better known as DJ Mo. It all started when he gifted himself with a cool ride complete with his alias engraved on the car’s body. Then along came someone he would need for the empty passenger seat; in August, Mo said “I do” to his sweetheart, Size 8, in a private wedding attended by immediate family members only.

And now, as the year draws to a close, DJ Mo, has acquired the best DJ decks in the world for the digital age we are living in. Today, Mo unveiled his brand new decks, the Pioneer CDJ-2000 pro-grade DJ player, Pioneer’s new professional player for the digital age.

The decks fizzes with fresh DNA and can play music from multiple sources, including CD, DVD, USB storage devices and SD memory cards, meaning that Mo will no longer needs to burn CDs; he will simply be taking his USB device to the club, plug in to the CDJ and play.

Through the industry-first Pro DJ Link, music files and database data on one single USB or SD device can be shared simultaneously by up to four players connected via LAN (local area network) cable.

Plus, the data history of each DJ set is automatically saved and can be made into a playlist that can be loaded back into rekordbox (the revolutionary music database management software for DJs).

One of these costs somewhere around €1799 (approximately 215,000) which includes the rekordbox software and VAT.

Take a look;

13 Hottest Breakout Entertainers Of 2013

2013 was a good year for Kenyan entertainers. They were coming up left right and center! it was like, everytime I would take the time to watch TV -I do not watch TV but when i do, I keep seeing new talented faces coming about.

The new faces have been causing quite a stir and have been unsettling the old guard: you know the type the entertainers who have been around for several years not doing music and when they do, it isn’t worth a damn.

But away from bitter truth serums, this is all about appreciating the new faces that made an impact of some sort in Kenya’s entertainment industry and they are:

#13. Tiri

The lass has really come into her own -you know, outside of being Kus Ma’s (Camp Mulla) girlfriend. But she still has a long way to go. i want to see people talk about her and not add the suffix “K’Cous Girl”.

#12. Alex Kioko

I first wrote about the lad when July was peaking and I do not regret posting about the lad. He is one of the lads to watch out for in 2014.

#11. Danny Gift

Aye so the lad only has one song and he features in it but his talent is undeniable. He brought the song he did with Daddy Owen “Kazi ya Msalaba” to life and for that, he appears on the list.

#10. Kristoff

I have nothing but respect for Kristoff. he came out with a hot song, “Tattoo kwa Thigh” which was a dedication then another hot track with Khaligraph Jones. The lad is going places. Mark my words.

#9. Owago Onyiro

The lad has a refreshing approach to comedy. Unlike all the other demure comedians, he pulls no punches and takes no prisoners. his uncensored adult humour is just what the doctor ordered. I however hope he can navigate the minefield that is corporate sponsorship.

#8. Kimdanny

This lad had a scandal about an alleged pregnancy. He bounced back and has been releasing hot gospel tracks.

kimdanny.jpg

First heard about the lad from J. Blessing but I wasn’t interested. I am certainly paying attention now and so is Kenya. The young gospel artist is someone who will definitely cause seismic shifts in kenya’s entertainment industry.

#6. Sleepy

The comedian has had a roller coaster life this year. He can honestly say he has seen high highs and has hit low lows such as when his brother was allegedly gunned down by police. that being said, he tasted stardom and has run away with it.

#5. HopeKid

Hopekid has been a hit and with good reason. Although the lad was nearly derailed when he was accused of infringing Jamaican artists to make his own material, he has soared high nonetheless.

#4. Elani

This was their year. their music finally got widespread acceptance. Hope they keep it coming at the same velocity from now on.

#3. Chipukeezy

This has been his year. More than anyone under Churchill’s wing, he has managed to take advantage of the mentorship project more than anyone else. From Kiss 100 to GOtv, the sky is the limit for the young lad.

#2. Sage

Sage has to be the breakout artist of the entire year. She has been such an impact! No doubt about that!

#1. Kidis

“Aaaah! Kamua leo!”
