She’s on everyone’s lips thanks to her stellar performance in Hollywood not just because she’s Kenyan but also a first-timer. However, that hasn’t stopped her from nailing several firsts; so much so that everyone is now trying to have a piece of the Kenyan gem.

Tonight, the Oscar-nominated Kenyan actress will make her debut appearance on The Queen Latifah Show. Lupita will talk about her breakthrough performance in “12 Years a Slave.”

The Queen Latifah Show is a daytime talk variety series that showcases Queen Latifah’s extraordinary range of talents as a global entertainment icon. The multi-topic, daily syndicated show features a mix of A-list celebrities, real people with inspiring stories, buzzworthy musical acts, and Queen Latifah’s unique – often comedic take – on pop culture.

They are the matchmakers. They are the star makers. They are the news makers. They are Yvonne Bulimo and Malonza and they brought you Kenya’s most popular dating show Tujuane.

Tujuane is a first of its kind in which the hosts scout the streets of Nairobi with the aim of hooking up the single people encountered on the street. We have watched the good dates, the bad and awkward dates, the uncanny dates and finally the ratchet dates.

News coming in is that the premier dating show is moving to a new home. We first got the admission from Standard Group’s artist Kenny Kaburu, who coyly said that ‘Tujuane has left my employer.’ Then we called up Malonza one of the hosts of the show who confirmed that yes they were moving to greener pastures but he wouldn’t reveal where they were moving to exactly telling us to “keep our eyes open.”

If I’m to hazard a guess, I would think their most likely destination would be NTV, seeing as Citizen has very little room in their weekday primetime schedule for such a show.

Cancer. There is such finality to this word. “You have cancer “is not one of the words you ever want to hear from your doctor. It does not only devastate your health but also totals your finances not forgetting the psychological effects.

Just like us normal folks cancer has also affected celebrities and their families, here are some of the celebrities who have battled cancer, some have survived while others were not so lucky.

Veronica Waceke

Veronica Waceke is a screen plus stage actress whom you may have spotted on TV shows like ‘Higher Learning’, where she plays Aida, a feisty University girl who runs an escort company and she lures her friends to join the ‘business’ with a promise of a life of affluence.

She has also been on ‘Guy Centre’, where she plays a talent scout who fishes for new musical talent and goes ahead to promote it. She has also been featured in other local TV acts amongst ‘Be the Judge’, ‘Makutano Junction’, ‘Machachari’ and recently, ‘Mother in Law’.

The youthful, hardworking and passionate actress was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer late last year. Her fellow artistes came to her aide and organized a concert dubbed “Art Synthesis” to raise money for her treatment, they managed to garner around 170,000

Television actress Beth Nyambura Mbaya, popularly known by her screen name Wanade, passed away early last year after a battle with cancer

The mother to two young screen sensations — Kamau Mbaya, who plays Baha in the show Machachari, and Mungai Mbaya, who acts in Makutano Junction in addition to being a presenter of the children show Know Zone passed away at her sisters place in Kahawa Sukari

She was married to Mr. Robert Mbaya. Mrs. Mbaya was the older sister to Omosh from the show Tahidi High and the younger sister of actress and scriptwriter Naomi Kamau.

Robert Otani

The Journalist succumbed to prostate cancer after a long tedious battle with the disease at their family’s home in Manyatta-Awendo village in Migori County.

Robert Otani has worked with most of the leading newspapers in the country, even as a freelance journalist, and last worked with the Daily Nation newspaper before he retired. He was the father of Ghetto Radio 89.5 News Editor Mac Otani, who is also the Organizing Secretary of the Kenya Parliamentary Journalists Association.

Ben Muchemi

A few days shy of Christmas, skilled rally driver Ben Muchemi or Baba Shiro as he was dotingly known, bid the world adieu after a brave battle with cancer.

The veteran driver succumbed to the disease just days after going to India for treatment. Baba Shiro was the chairman of the Sports Stadia Management Board (SSMB) and Kenya Motor Sports Federation. Ben will be fondly remembered as a diehard petrol head and a kind soul.

Karen Igho is probably one of the most entertaining people to come from the Big Brother House,its no wonder she emerged the winner a while back.

The former reality TV star and media personality had earlier tweeted :

“I have cancer. Are you guys happy?????”.

  The ‘fans’ were straight up rough on her with some of them posting icy comments such as these:

The clearly hurt the former reality star tweeted this “I told the world whole about my lumps and I get bulled every day for that.for been truthful.God in heaven will deal with all of for me.”

That was a while back,the girl is currently in the UK to treat the disease.She however did not reveal the type of cancer she is suffering from though it is said that she had been treated for lumps in her breasts before entering the big brother house

I recently found out that Ringtone was shooting a video to an as yet unreleased track titled “Muziki ni Dawa” and that he had reached out to one young lad that has proved that he can make some unbelievably A-grade videos.

And at the video shoot location, I found out just why A. Macharia is considered one of the best in the trade. They say that for anyone to play at a professional level, one must not only have the skill and training but the mindset and the equipment. True to form, A. Macharia has all the above.

The best tribute to a mum.

It’s with a very heavy heart that we announce the sudden and untimely death of Purity Muirigi aka Kanana Kagwiria. Popularly known as Kagwiria and one of the top Meru comedians, the talented comedian passed away Sunday afternoon after a short illness.

According to sources, Kagwiria was taken ill over the weekend and was admitted at the Consolata Nkubu Mission Hospital where she unfortunately passed on.

Kagwiria shot into the limelight via KTN’s satirical news show, Hapa Kule News, in episode 10 (Keeping Up With The Kagwirias), that went viral on YouTube, thanks to her prowess and immense talent in comedy.

Fellow Hapa Kule News comedian, Abel Mutua eulogized her as a “a colleague who had so much potential“.

“It really hurts to lose a colleague who had so much potential. This was to be your year but God had other plans. Hapa Kule News will never be the same without you. Rest In Peace Purity Muirigi aka Kagwiria. We will miss you dearly.“

May her soul rest in eternal peace.
