Kenyan hip hop mheads are mourning the passing on of one of the best rappers. One half of the Kenyan legendary hiphop duo “Mashifta”, G-Wiji aka Miti is dead.

According to reports, G-Wiji was killed by a driver who hit and killed the hip hop artiste then fled the scene on Saturday. His body was taken to the morgue as investigations continue to bring to book the hit-and-run driver at Kasarani on Thika Superhighway.

This morning, close friends and family members went to City Mortuary where his body is lying to view the body as the body was previously unrecognizable since he was apparently run over severally. However, the documents show it’s G-Wiji. A Facebook page associated with the rapper read;

“All close friendz n family of ‪#‎G_WIJI‪#‎MASHIFTA are being asked to go and confirm the identity of a body at city mortuary. The only thing that iz clear iz that the documents the person was holding, Thats is, The ID card, voterz card, MCSK documents, n others that had his name.”

Meanwhile, fellow artistes, fans and friends have been posting their commiseries on social media to mourn the rapper;

Rather, the majority stake was sold seeing as one company now holds l49% and smaller business interests and individuals own 51% which essentially dilutes it’s strength.

I can declare with sureness that Kaberere was quite the force to reckon with and his death was not only a blow to his family but also to the gospel industry as well.

Young, old, strong, frail, famous and commoners all came out to eulogize the fallen star. The latest to come out and eulogize the fallen hero is daddy Owen who has released a video called ‘Defender’ in his honor.

Shot in Eldoret, Produced by R-Kay and the video done by R-Kay Daddy Owen informed us that this track is a special Easter song that was motivated by Kaberere’s demise. This Bible verse came true on Friday night after the late Qabz’s widow, Njesh, delivered a beautiful bouncing baby girl just hours after the celebrated and talented singer was laid to rest.

The baby, named Njoki, will definitely grow up smiling and strong, with her hero in her heart forever, even if she won’t meet him in person.

Friends and family expressed their excitement after they heard the good news as the congratulated Njesh on the arrival of little angel. Here are some;

Alex Red is a multi-talented African artist, born on the 9th of March 1994 and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, he started to make music at the age of 9 when he began to take piano lessons, from moving Keys he started to writing songs, rapping at the age of 14 and making beats at 16.

He is influenced by producers who have managed to be successful rappers and vice versa from Dr.Dre to Kanye West and aspires to be successful at both.

He started rapping as a way to pass time in boarding school stating “There was no TV, no video games just books to read and a movie every weekend so it naturally became a thing that almost every dude in my class did..” and as his classmates dropped the art gradually, he continued to build on it and under the moniker Lil Balla, he formed a group with rappers from different classes known as D-Tox with whom he recorded his 1st project known as “The Third Decree”. It only had 3 songs in it which he hated after the group fell out.

He graduated and put together a DIY home studio (they used a PlayStation 2 sing-star microphone to record) with producer P.H.D who was also a member of D-Tox and his classmate and together they started to work on a series of tracks naming their label Disturbing Africa, it was during this time that Red learnt how to produce with P.H.D teaching him the basics.

Alex Says “he gave me the basics, the rest was just spending hours working on it, i thought it was a good idea cause then i wouldn’t have to spend money on beats and i wouldn’t need anyone else to put together a good track, i could do it on my own”
This phase of his career ended and he stopped working with P.H.D regularly. Red has since started a movement “Youth In Revolt” and he released his debut mixtape “The Black Bruce Wayne” in April 2013, he also directed his debut music video ‘How it Feel’ which got over 49,000 views on youtube.

He is currently working on a album “Youth In Revolt”. The first support single for the project ‘P3’ featured BET award nominated artist Thee MC Africa (2012 nominee for best international act Africa as Taio Tripper from the group Camp Mulla), this was followed by Thirsty and his most recent release the controversial ‘Look Mom, Im On TV’ which featured Alex taking shots at various music industry figures which resulted in an interview on KISS 100 in early 2014 with Adelle Onyango.

Last Friday, family and friends gathered at the Lang’ata Cemetery to bid farewell to a friend, father, husband, brother, colleague and favourite artiste.

The tragedy of Kaberere’s death was clearly still fresh in their minds and hearts, and it was clear that many were struggling to contain their emotions as some fought back tears.

It is still so heartbreaking to think that Kaberere is not with us anymore. But if we’ve learned anything in the sad days that have come after Kaberere’s death, it’s that he will never be forgotten. There has been an amazing outpouring of fan support — from tweets to Facebook posts — and the celebrity world, especially the Gospel fraternity, has honored him with kind words and loving prayers.

MOVED UP / MOVED DOWN

Exactly a month ago, I broke the story that Radio Africa shareholders had reached an agreement with a South African consortium to sell them a majority stake in the company. Why is this significant? Well, because Radio Africa is the parent company of Kiss 100, Classic Fm, Radio Jambo, East FM and The Star. And these companies -well, atleast Kiss 100 and Classic Fm make the biggest bulk of monies earned in the radio sector.

 

Back then, details were sketchy but my source who wasn’t in the boardroom during the meeting but was right outside was right on the money. And for that I am forever grateful.

Anyway, more details have been made available and I can now reveal that the company was sold for over 1 billion shillings. And the South African consortium that bought it out is Times Media Group. TMG acquired the majority stake in Radio Africa for $18.62 million (Sh1.58 billion).

it is reported that a substantial portion of the funds will be used to recapitalise the company essentially setting it debt free. A further portion of the funds will be retained to finance new investments -read going digital.

Last Sunday, Kenya lost one of the most popular gospel musicians Kaberere. The death of the gospel artiste was announced by his colleagues who host the groove awards.

Since Sunday,several musicians and entertainers have come out to pay tribute to this the fallen hero and the latest one to come out is Grace Muna, a former Tahidi High actress based in Dubai.This is what she said

It is with deep sadness that I write this to first and foremost the wife of Peter Kaberere, his son, his family at large and to the Gospel fraternity of Kenya. Nothing is so heartbreaking at this moment like hearing of his death when I’m miles away from Kenya.

We have been left with such a void that cannot be filled and none of us will be able to fit into the shoes that he wore. God blessed him with a talent that he only, could carry and run with it. We don’t know of the nights that he stayed up composing music, or the strides he took to making and prepping of his videos.

 

 

It is sad that Kaberere is no longer with us, but his music will live forever more. We will continue to be blessed and be encouraged by his music. Just according to the word of God, we cannot ask God why this had to happen, for that which is known to us is for us and that which is know only by God, is for God himself.

 I pray that the Spirit of God be around his Family, to fill the gap with comfort, love, and a heart to persevere. Take strength Mrs Kaberere, and rise up like an eagle, stand firm and know that God will take you through this trying time. He will be your shield, buckler and your strong defender. God will provide for that which you will desire and I pray that you will be an encouragement to others that mourn with. You are more than a conqueror!

 

 

 

I dedicate this to you all and may you all know that Kaberere is in a place so beautiful, so peaceful and best of all, sited at the right had of the Father.
