Vera Sidika’s Skin Lightening Saga Makes It to the New York Post .She Gets Compared to Lupita Nyong’o

Its official Vera Sidika has gone global; this is all thanks to her skin lightening procedure that has been met with resistance by a whole load of people.

What makes this story interesting though is that vera has now denied that she bleached and that is really pissing a lot of people. I guess because society expected her to apologize, become ashamed or run into hiding for being ‘a bad role model’

The news of her lethal quest for beauty and the backlash she has received has gone global and she was recently featured on Page Six of the New York post as ‘Kenya’s Kim Kardashian’

ny_post.jpg

Part of the post read:

Until her appearance on Kenya’s “#TheTrend,” she’d been adored for her curves. The news of her shallow quest for beauty threw many of her fans into an uproar.
Even though it’s dangerous, skin lightening is gaining popularity in Africa, with women flocking to makeshift clinics for the procedure. Sidika, 24, is just one of the women who chose to come forward about her desire for lighter skin.

Ironically, Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, also from Kenya, has been celebrated around the world for her natural hair and deep cocoa skin. But many Kenyan women adhere to another, more European style of beauty — using hair extensions and bleaching creams.”

Enchanting Brenda Wairimu Joins Sauti Sol for a Good Cause

Taking a break from her tight schedule super beautiful actress, Brenda Wairimu will join boy band, Sauti Sol for a noble cause next Monday.

The actress and cancer awareness champion who is also the founder of B-Spot and B-Dazzle will #ReadAloud with Start A Library on June 16th on the designated Day of the African Child.

As a Reading Ambassador, Brenda is expected to endorse Start A Library’s message and spread the spirit of its message: “Reading is cool” through its (Sauti Sol’s) networks of fans and friends.

The Read Aloud is done in partnership with a number of organizations such as the Kenya Human Rights Commission, Kenya National Library Services, Kenya@50 Secretariat, Wema Trust, City Education, Kilimani Foundation, Center Narovinu, African Braille Center and Kenya Society for the Blind.

Start A Library hopes to break the Guinness World Record in reading aloud during the Day of African Child 2015. This will go a long way in slaying that awful saying, “If you want to hide something from an African, hide it in a book” The current World Record is 223,363 children reading simultaneously from across 909 venues in the United States.

These 5 Kenyan Songs Should Never Ever Be Played at Any Wedding

When MOG released their song, ‘My Wedding Day’ almost every wedding that came after it had the song in its playlist because the jam simply helps set a mood and style for the proceedings.

However, while the bride and her groom want to dance themselves to exhaustion on their wedding day, there some Kenyan songs that should be in their playlist (not that we hate them, no, they’re just not appropriate for the occasion).

These 5 songs are inappropriate. And none of them should be played at your wedding. Hopefully, your DJ or band is savvy enough to avoid them. Take a look;

1. Chips Funga – Anto NeoSoul

He/ she will definitely leave you for the obvious reason; you’re just a chips funga.

{youtube}_NOYTYiOTaA{/youtube}

2. Niko Over My Ex – Mejja

There’s a subliminal message in this song. Listen carefully.

{youtube}CYt4qMfxEwM{/youtube}

3. Kigeugeu – Jaguar

{youtube}FTBYc3lAnMU{/youtube}

4. Ino Ni Momo – Murimi wa Kahalf

There’s a line that translates to, “You can’t make love to her because just like a trailer which has a bottomless fuel tank, you’ll have a hard time satisfying her.

{youtube}dmZwqIrTY0Q{/youtube}

And finally;

5. Tudinyane – Circuite

Play this song before your in-laws at your own peril.

I Bet This Should Be Vera Sidika’s Ringtone Right about Now

The whole week long the discussion has been about Vera Sidika. Vera this, Vera that since last Friday night. In fact the conversation is far from dying down on Twitter going by the fact that the TTs; #BleachedBeauty, #What5oMillionCanDo and Vera Sidika have been trending for record 4 days.

Anyway, rapper/singer/songwriter/composer, Calvo Mistari has released his second Song of 2014 “Wanabonga” from his upcoming Music Album “Madaraka Madness” set to be released in December 2014 that Vera could ride on and dedicate to her detractors.

“Wanabonga” talks about everyday life situations where your friends and collegues are quick to hate on your hustle and talk smack about you and your hustle. The song encourages you to overlook this and keep on working and let your success talk for you.

“Wanabonga” was been produced by Kanyeria at Heart Beat Productions and has been Mixed and Mastered by Eric Musyoka at Decimal Media. The background Vocals have been done by Amillena Mwenesi, Nessa and Kanyeria. The video has been shot by “Team Mistari” and directed by Kimunya Chris, Vj One & Edu G HD.

Victoria Kimani recently released ‘Prokoto’ featuring Tanzanian sensations Diamond and Ommy Dimpoz .

‘Prokoto’ is without a doubt her best track yet, its receiving major airplay and heavy reception all around Africa! ‘Prokoto’ is reminiscent of traditional East African sounds, and captivates the listener from the first beat, and ends in a lot of dancing gyrating.

The song has in recent times, taken a new dimension. The Chocolate City star recently announced a ‘Prokoto’ dance competition where her fans would upload photos of themselves dancing to the song and earn some cash in the process $500.

K-Krew’s DJ Moz is a Disappointed Man & Needs Answers

For the last couple of years, Kenya has been deluged with an influx of Nigerian music as Kenyan music is slowly becoming contraband. This is one puzzle that entertainment pundits need to solve.

Gospel deejay and K-Krew’s DJ Moz has come out to condemn in strongest words possible the influx of Nigerian songs which is being perpetuated by Kenyans themselves. He strongly feels there’s a need to bring back Kenyan music to the forefront.

He rants;

“I love music and I appreciate music from all around. I love listening to the sounds and what different cultures appreciate. However, as a gatekeeper, I feel the need to protect our music industry and help it grow to greater heights.

I must give it up to our brothers and sisters from Naija for crossing their boundaries to many African countries and beyond. As for Kenya, I am concerned about the influx and high intake of Naija music in some of our radio stations and the little uptake of local content.

What are we saying to our artists and producers? Their music is below par? The quality is bad? Or the local market appreciates music from beyond our borders more than our own local content? How will we grow this industry and make it a livelihood for our musicians if we Dont embrace them more and push their music?

I love what I see in the US, UK, Naija, SA and other African countries. They have embraced their own and their people are living off their music. We need to get there. As DJs, radio and TV stations, we need to be intentional on pushing for more high quality local content as we balance with international music. And to our local artists, we will not settle for mediocrity as we push for more of your content. We will demand for quality from you. We love you and we will help you live off your gift.

Peace.

Highly Intelligent Kenyan Women Speak Out On Vera Sidika’s Bleaching: Caroline Mutoko Comes Out Spitting Fire And Venom

Uncle Chim Tuna has decided to allow Kenya’s most intelligent female celebrities and media personalities an opportunity to speak out about their take on bleaching. When I reached out to Caroline Mutoko who is out of the country in New York, she responded with some very harsh words. I need everyone to read what she has to say very carefully and internalize.

Can we all get a grip and stop being so pretentious.
In polite society, bleaching is called “toning”. International celebrities acquire a newer, fresher, brighter, skin “tone”. Nkt. Bleaching is supposedly that crazy thing they do on river-road or in the backstreets of Kingston Jamaica.

Vera said as much on Larry’s show and we chose to ignore her. Amazing how blind and deaf we get when we have bile. Ciera, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Iman ….yes the whole lot have had their skin “toned”. Why is Vera in focus? Because she went afew shades too light? The rest went a shade or two lighter and looked, “nicer, brighter”. The limelight requires and demands a certain look from those who play the game. Better teeth, firmer boobs, brighter skin, bigger hair etc etc. All of it is available with the right money and right doctor.

http://photos-e.ak.instagram.com/hphotos-ak-xpf1/10471894_318029384988652_949583654_n.jpg

Very few women can play the “not me” card here. Your hair though not as plentiful as Vera’s is not allll yours. Your nails, your eyes, (yes eye liner counts), lips, your eyebrows…. even your height – babe, you’re a lot shorter without those shoes. We have all done things to enhance ourselves.

Vera’s sin is that she celebrated it. She refused to be shamed by it and worse still is clearly celebrating it.  I think we hate the fact that we didn’t get to “out” her, and even when she finally showed up, she was clearly happy.
Vera is a sensation because she owned this story from the get go – So much so, she’s gone global in 72hours. In her business – there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Here’s the bottom line – as long as you didn’t wake up looking like you do right now – spare me the “holier than thou” attitude. As women we are always enhancing something about ourselves.
Hair, nails, lips, brows, lashes, skin. Vera just cranked it up, way up. The conversation is not about bleaching – it’s about the need to “enhance/change”. What is that need and why? You can’t answer that question for Vera, but maybe you should answer it for yourself.

And before we start that annoying debate on “role models”. Not everyone in the lime-light is a role model or wants to be. You can’t pin labels on people without first confirming with them what they want. You can’t. You also have no business getting bent out of shape because you made a decision about YOUR life based on mine, yet you never checked with me about MY plans for MY life. I don’t need your permission to be me. Vera doesn’t need anyone’s permission to lighten her skin tone, put on a weave or live life her way. She would not be this big a deal if we simply ignored her. But we can’t, can we. We are our own worst enemies when it comes to feeding the monster.
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again – Do you. Make the decisions that make sense for you. If that includes some skin toning, so be it.

Vera Threatens to Blast Kenyan Women on National TV. Find Out why

For a week now, the social media has been abuzz with discussion about Vera Sidika and her bleaching (skin whitening according to her). While women have been hating, men have been trolling.

Well, the video vixen seems to have had enough of it and decided to respond. In her response to her detractors, Vera isn’t mincing her words and she actually threatens to call out all the chics that are hating on her but secretly asking her friends what she’s done.

Here’s what she said;

Vee response

Men should stop pretending “Black is beauty” when they clearly prefer dating fair girls.

Women should stop pretending and acting like I made the worst mistake on my own body (not theirs) when behind bars go asking my friends what I did and where I did it! -Ask one more time and I will call out your names live on TV!

ION; I didn’t do it for anyone but myself. We never have a problem when fair/white women struggle to be dark by tanning every chance they get but clearly have issues when the opposite is done!?

STOP THE HYPOCRISY!!!

All the Hilarious Memes from Larry Madowo – Vera Sidika ‘Encounter’

The power of social media! Close to a week after that interview of Vera Sidika on The Trend, Kenyans just won’t get off that tip yet.

Thanks to KOT’s creativity (or is it impressive photoshop skills?) the photo Larry took with Vera has undergone metamorphosis more than frogs and toads. KOT picked up the photo and saw an opportunity to have a little fun.

Here are some memes created from that photo, if you haven’t yet seen them yet;

Ever been in a fix on what to pair with wine when you have visitors over or just cause you bored of just drinking it the regular way or how to choose the perfect wine for that special occasion? Or worse still, the concoctions of a a cocktail or mocktail?

Get To Launch Your Music While Networking With Celebs. Find Out More

Gospel Podium is a monthly event dedicated to Launching New music as well as celebrating the Gospel industry players. Organized by Sakata Media.., a Kenyan based production company that has capitalized on audio, video and TV production, saw the need of coming up with such an event to help Gospel artistes get to the lime light.

Just as the name suggests, it Gives platform to artistes to showcase whatever new they have (Can be that the artist is new, he/she gets the platform to launch themselves. Also the artist may not be new but he/she has a new video or audio hence qualifying to be given the platform).

Benefits to the artistes…

  • It’s only at Gospel podium where an artist gets the opportunity to meet all the Industry players at once. (These are fellow artistes, Gospel TV/Radio presenters, Gospel Djs, Producers, Promoters etc…)

The most interesting thing about this is the fact that these various personalities are the audience at Gospel Podium.

  1. They are meeting the right people in the Gospel fraternity, people that are able to show them the right way to go in terms of production quality as well as content delivery.
  2. They get to mingle with fellow Gospel artistes, enabling them to learn more from each other i.e. ups and downs in their various Gospel Music Ministries.
  3. They get the rare opportunity to explain themselves to the right people, every show- casing artiste is given time to introduce themselves and expound their various titles to the audience.
  4. It’s advantageous since the presenters, Djs and TV content developers present at the meeting get to know these artistes and their music better, enhancing their chances of getting airplay.
  5. Their Music distribution and marketing is also enhanced, a table is normally set for media gifts.., where they drop their albums or singles for Media personalities. These and so much more helps the artistes excel in their Music Career as Gospel Musicians hence the Goal of Gospel Podium.

It was launched on 8th of May 2014, and the 2nd  Edition is here again this month on the 11th   June 2014 at Louis Leakey Auditorium, Museum Hill. As from 6pm-9pm.

Cocktail and Red-carpet at exactly 6m paving way for doors to open by 6:45pm. 8 showcase artistes and 4 surprise performances.

It’s an event you don’t want to miss.

Former Radio Jambo Presenter Heads Back after Previously Decamping

In September 2013, much-admired radio host, Fred Arocho, left Radio Jambo, a station he had been for the past years when Milele FM came calling amid protests from his avid listeners.

However after 9 months at the helm of Milele FM’s football commentatorship, Arocho is heading back ‘home’; Radio Jambo. Just like he did when he left the Radio Africa Group-owned radio station back in September, Arocho made his exit known to all his fans.

In a Facebook post, Arocho acknowledged the Milele FM management for cordial reception and happy stay.

Fred_Arocho.jpg

Mwalimu King’ang’i Pokes Fun at Nation F.M’s Billboard

The passive aggressive battle for supremacy between Classic 105 and Nation F.M has been going on for a while now.

It all started when Nation F.M claimed that they wanted to bring intelligence and sense to morning radio as opposed to what Classic 105 in the morning brought, scandals and bizarre confessions.

Classic 105 then sent them a congratulatory message for Easy F.M’s closure through an understated yet hilarious ad .Nation F.M  also took a  subtle jab at them by erecting a billboard which showed ‘sense’ versus ‘scandal’

.Here is the said billboard:

And this is what Churchill had to say about the said billboard
