This Is the Gospel Artist Who WIll Be Most Remembered

Most Kenyan artists have had initiatives aimed in giving back to the society, but Holy Dave went the whole nine yards and founded The David Muthengi Foundation alongside his friends; Kelele Takatifu, Ken the Dj, Christ Cycoz  & Recapp. These Gospel artists chose to focus on Education, sighting that Education plays a direct role in reducing poverty and enhancing economic development.

With the Braeside School Community Service program they hosted a series of charity concerts raising support for purchasing special education learning materials for underprivileged students. The beneficiaries of the last two charity concerts were Thika School for the Blind and Dagoreti Special School.

Apart from partnering with like minded individuals and organizations on different charity causes the foundation raises support from well-wishers and manages the funds under the David Muthengi Foundation Trust Fund to pay school fees for underprivileged students, purchase learning materials for needy schools and to provide pocket money to disadvantaged students so that they can study comfortably. Mugithi Singer John De Matthew Acquitted of Hate Song against Raila Odinga

Kikuyu secular musician John De Mathew has been acquitted of hate-speech accusations leveled against him.

John Ng’ang’a aka John DeMathew had been charged with producing a song that bordered on hate speech against the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

A court Friday declared that the prosecution “did not present enough evidence to link the singer to hate speech as alleged,” and dropped all charges.

The case was terminated before Senior Principal Magistrate Elena Nderitu.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) had recommended that the singer be charged and jailed for a term not exceeding three years, or pay a fine Sh1 million or both. DeMathew had denied that ‘Wituete Hiti’ song, translated to mean, ‘You have made yourself a Hyena’, was inciting and amounted to hate speech.

In his defence, he said the translations were out of context and had missed the point of his song. The NCIC had applied that the songs be banned from being aired on local radio stations.

On Friday, a jovial DeMathew said he would endeavour to sing songs that unite Kenyans in future.

“I will continue to sing songs of unity and be an ambassador of peace,’ he told reporters outside the Milimani law courts after his acquittal.

The court Friday ordered that the Sh100,000 cash bail he deposited as surety be returned to him.

He had been charged alongside two other musicians Muigai Wa Njoroge and Kamande Wa Kioi whose cases had since been dropped after striking a deal with the NCIC.

The NCIC in its case had said that the musicians composed songs that were full of metaphors and references to Kikuyu mythology and could be interpreted as “insulting and threatening.” The lyrics, according to NCIC, posed questions about what to do if, for example, someone took you to The Hague or takes your wife or property with an accompanying chorus reply “kill him.”

Top Entertainment Writer Cate Mukei Gets TV Anchor Tom Mboya To Open Up About Being An Alcoholic

I saw this piece from Cate Mukei and decided to syndicate it. Check it out below:

Tom Mboya, a seasoned journalist and news anchor has received worldwide accolades, including the prestigious CNN African Journalist of the Year Award in 2012. He is the proud father of three – two sons (a university student and a form four candidate) and a daughter who is in class seven. But he has had his fair share of low and trying moments. Just four years ago, he was in and out of hospital struggling with alcoholism. The single father talks to CATE MUKEI about his family, separation from his wife and how a near-death experience became his turning point.

Seven years ago you suffered pancreatitis and you were in a coma for a month. How did this happen?

I lived on the fast lane and drunk heavily. People expected a lot from me as a star news anchor. I used to drink a lot to hide my frustrations. Alcohol also offered a temporary relief from the struggles of being a single father. I did not realise it was taking such a toll on my professional and personal life. One day, I collapsed in the house. My children called for help and that’s how I ended up in hospital where I was put on morphine.

Where was the mother of your children all this time?

We separated when the children were very young. In fact, my last born daughter was hardly a year old. I have been a single father for many years.

As you lay on your hospital bed, what went through your mind?

I did not care what my body was going through as I was about the welfare of my children. Their spirit and positive attitude is what kept me going. I could feel their fear and imagine them agonizing whether I was going to pull through. We still talk about that experience sometimes. I want them to understand that choices have consequences and that your lifestyle can make or break you.

How did you manage to get back on your feet?

Things had to change. Being hospitalised was the lowest moment in my life. I had to quit alcohol and smoking. Luckily, I landed another job at Citizen TV and I have never looked back. Tell us a bit about your separation. Every house has its fair share of ups and downs. We were young and did not fully understand what marriage entails. Those are some of the mistakes you make when you get into a relationship while young. It became difficult to reconcile our differences and we parted ways.

How is life as a single father?

When we parted ways, I had just joined the media as a business reporter and anchor. My last born daughter was very young and I had to do nappies. I was juggling work, school runs and managing the household. The future of my three lovely children was literally in my hands. I sat down with the kids and we had an open conversation. I explained to them about the separation, what it meant and why. I made it very clear that they had nothing to do with it and that mummy and daddy were going through a tough phase. I am glad I opened up early. We now have this special bond and I am not only their father, but their best friend.

Has it changed you?

I can chew gum and climb the staircase without biting my tongue! Being a single father has taught me how to multitask. I was anxious in the beginning, but with time, I got used to it. The attitude I have developed has kept me going. For the first time, I realised the value of interacting with my children. I have no regrets!

Being an African man, has there not been pressure for you to remarry?

Yes! People advised me to get married, but I did not want to rush into another relationship. I am married to my children. Our bond is so strong that at one time, when tried talking them into living with their mother, they refused. This is because they are so used to me. I think fathers who do not spend quality time with their kids miss out on a lot. Being a single father has been a pleasure.

A woman named Elsie Achieng recently accused you of neglecting a child you got with her. How true is this?

At some point in my life, I thought I needed a partner, but things did not work out unfortunately. I prefer to reserve my comments for now since this case is in court.

How did your children react to the news?

It was shocking because we all learnt about it from the newspapers. They felt betrayed by someone who they had considered a potential mother. They had respected and interacted with her and therefore could not understand the motive behind it, given my sensitive position in the society.

Here’s What Kapuka Fused With Dancing Can Yield

Actor and first lady of Sub Sahara Entertainments’ Urban Hip Hop group “Military Swag Team” KUSH officially releases her sensual – energy filled -feel good single “Chikicha”. When asked about what the track meant to her she informed us “It’s a track about women and standards in the club”. In a society where standards seem to disappear after the first shot she emphasized how the song “addresses women who love to turn up and shake their booty just like everybody else but still hold their own and stay true to their standards whatever they may be.”

However it’s her love for Kapuka and dancing that really inspired the track.

This song is set to be in playing in a club near you, enjoy!

GHAFLA EXCLUSIVE: Male Gospel Artist Opens Up About Being Raped By A Catholic Priest!

Matthew 7:15-20 Nothing so much prevents men from entering the strait gate, and becoming true followers of Christ, as the carnal, soothing, flattering doctrines of those who oppose the truth. They may be known by the drift and effects of their doctrines. Some part of their temper and conduct is contrary to the mind of Christ. Those opinions come not from God that lead to sin.

Sometimes, the people we trust to help bring us closer to the glory of God fall short. Afterall, we are but human. But sometimes, the shepherd turns out to be a disgusting predator who forces himself on his flock to sate perverse sexual desires. Ghafla recently sat down with none other than Joji Baro and he opened up about the traumatic, harrowing ordeal he endured at the hands of a Catholic Priest:

Prezzo Inspires Upcoming Artists To Make A Song About Money. Check It Out Here

Prezzo is one of the most popular artists around so when I saw and heard this track, it didn’t strike me as strange. The track in question is titled “Money In The Bank and was done by an artist called Klimax Skims and he featured Jameel. The track is a trap tune made in the distinct Southern hiphop sound and feel to it with that Texan style called “chopped and screwed” used to manipulate the hook.

Like I said, the song is a trap track so it is only expected that it is all vanity. The thing that impressed me however was instrumentals. Whoever made this is really good! Let it never be said that Kenyans lack talent. The rapping… Klimax Skimz decided to go with a Swahili rap and he actually flows well.

How does Prezzo come in? Well, even the single’s cover is of the man Ngechu! So you know I rate that! Check the track out below:

MONEY IN THE BANK FT JAMEEL

Deceit & False Identity is What This Former Tabasamu Actress Has Been Up To

Trapped is a hilarious audience-pleasing fast-paced comedy. Its physical over-the-top makes our last show Dangerous Affairs seem like a prayer meeting by comparison.

The comedy is starring Kenya’s superstars directed by Mbeki Mwalimu. The setting of Trapped is a medical hospital. A doctor (Nick Ndeda) is practicing the lecture he will deliver to an assembly of fellow gynaecologists in less than an hour. The speech’s success is vital to his career. Interruptions abound. First it’s various other medical staff rehearsing their quartet dance routines for the Sakata Dance Competition (i.e. the cheeky Nigerian doctor played by Maina Olwenya; tough talking matron played by Yvonne Carter; the temptress – sexy and alluring nurse played by Lulu Wilson and the new intern doctor played by Henry Gitau Ngogoyo). Then a long-ago ex (Wangari Gioche), who was once a cleaner at the hospital, brings the news that she gave birth 16 years earlier to the doctor’s daughter (Janet Kirina) and that the daughter is in the hospital in search of Dad! Yes, there is his harsh wife (Rosemary Waweru), and she knows nothing of the past liaison!

Displaying janet kirina.jpg

And in the spiraling chaos of deceit, false identity and manic cover-up that ensues, the mission is to avoid the daughter, pacify the ex, keep the chief specialist and hospital deputy director (Derrick Amunga) at bay and fend off various distractions, among them a patient from deep in the village excited by the goings-on (Johnson Chege) and an inquisitive police officer.

Check Out The First Lady Chilling With Her Lover (PHOTO)

When word went round to those that know, those in the inner circle that things weren’t going too good in the first lady’s relationship, most scoffed at the news claiming it was all rubbish. Most said that blogs were spreading rumours. That was until we, Ghafla stepped to the scene with the first lady chilling in the arms of her lover.

Now, we are back at it. The first lady moved to file for divorce from her husband and it was granted but the details kept silent. Now, she isn’t too shy of getting photographed or of taking selfies with her lover. Check the pair of them out below:

Gorgeous Coast Singer Slaps Her Designer for Groping Her Breasts

They say ‘familiarity breeds contempt’ and condescension is the last thing you’d want from those people close to you.

Well, recently, Coast-based singer, Sis P was forced to react rather ferociously when her personal designer decided to take a joke a little too far. The XL Music singer allegedly slapped her designer real hard when he decided to grope her breast without her permission.

It’s reported that the gorgeous and talented singer was shopping for a new outfit for her upcoming video expected to be shot tomorrow (Saturday 20th June) when the designer decided to let his pervertedness overcome him.

Sis P has apparently lodged an official complaint and the case is being handled by the relevant officials.

Never before has any man in the public eye sunk to a state of low moral standards and behavior.

Skyluxx Westlands To Be Shut Down As Soon As This Friday

Kenya’s first Aftermath party was held a few weeks back, and if you missed it, pole kwako. It was the awesomest bash that weekend, without a doubt.

But not to worry, the party organisers DYCE are not stingy peoples. Finally Aftermath vol. 2 is out, due to the demand for a repeat of the event. They made

it happen again.

You know peeps have to keep it fresh with this party thing, so this time DYCE has decided to bring something totally different on A.M Vol.2. From the

success of Vol.1, this time round the thought of that night shall be left in your head for days, because what happens at the Aftermath stays at the

aftermath(if you know what I’m saying).

Aftermath was invented for the love of remembering all the good that happens in a club , we bring that night life to another level, a night where you will be heavy on that memory of what happened at the club.

BLUE VS BLACK AFFAIR is the theme of the event.
The event is all about that blue dress code verses the black dress code, one can mix the colours if they choose to, but the event is to bring out the two In

one kind of a feeling in the club, black and blue are colours that always compliment each other, and you can never go wrong with black or blue. To top it up

what you will experience in this event, from the music, the interactions, to the club its self , will be one atmosphere where you will be going home with

the “wanting” feeling of another vol. of the Aftermath, the Djs we have picked for this vol.2 of the AFTERMATH also add up to what will make you want more,

make you feel more than just a night out, make you wake up the next two days and feel like doing it all over again, hence this is the that event will leave

you with a feeling of “ I want another event like this of black vs blue affair” theme, hence the name “Aftermath”.

Choosing Skyluxx to host A.M vol.2 is to make this more than just an event, we have more planned for the night, from the random shots, to the random gifting

of the best ladies on behalf of explicit fashions, fresh music from Meta djs, what a way to make you remember that ill night it will be.

Explicit Fashions will be in the house to award the best dressed ladies in the house with high top fashion shoes of any kind all on behalf of dyce.

Gay Author Binyavanga to Attend Toronto Gay Pride Parade

Kenyan author, journalist and winner of the Caine Prize for African Writing, Binyavanga Wainaina, has revealed that he will be part of the annual Toronto (Gay) Pride Parade.

The acclaimed Kenyan memoirist made the revelation two days ago and even make it known how he will be dressed.

Toronto celebrates Gay Pride for 10 days in late June, and this year is an extra special edition, as the city is host of WorldPride 2014 – the dates are June 20 through June 29, 2014.

As one of North America’s leading gay destinations, Toronto has been holding Pride observances since ’70s, and events have been held annually here since 1981. These days, Toronto Pride’s most prominent event, the Pride Parade (taking place Sunday, June 29, 2014), draws more than 1.2 million spectators and participants annually, making it one of the top such draws in the world. Attendance this year, during WorldPride, should be even higher.

The key Toronto Gay Pride events take place in the city’s Church Street area, around the intersection with Wellesley Street – a neighborhood also known as the Gay Village.

The official Toronto WorldPride Week comprises a series of parties and events, from the Official Pride Launch Party to the Inspire Awards Gala.
