Ray talk is a forum organized and managed by Ray Media for music artists and is the first of it’s kind within Kenya. Most people focus on managing Artistes rather than also equipping them and informing them on how to tackle common issues amongst themselves.

Ray talk offers a platform of change within the music industry in Kenya to ensure a promising future for the aspiring, established and upcoming Artistes.

We have new Artists from different genres rising up, others crumbling down, while some are already established. With this in mind, it is right to say we need to train and nurture our Artists with the right skills and information to be effective and equipped.

Out of the need and desire to see prosperous Artistes who are ready to handle any form of challenge, Ray Talk was formed.

Ray Talk Objectives.

  • Equip Artistes with the necessary information.
  • To facilitate growth in building of music career.
  • Creating an opportunity for networking with different levels of artists and genres.

Ciku Muiruri Opens Up About Being Romanced And Then Conned By A

Love is truly a tricky thing. It’s not a thing as much as an emotion and the worst thing about emotions is that there is a special brand of people who are emotional parasites. They seek to feed off your emotions leaving you feeling drained, sceptic about life in general and jaded. It would seem Ciku Muiruri ran across one such person whom she chose to dub “a scrub”.

This is her tale about how one man attempted to rob her blind by taking advantage of her emotions:

I have received tonnes of email regarding a piece I wrote a few weeks ago – Living on a wing and a prayer. People (mostly managers) admitting, which must be hard, that they don’t have a clue what they’re doing. Trust me, as much as you’re winging it, you can’t be as bad as this chap. He is a CEO of a local upstart that I wanted to do business with. He worryingly always has the kind of paraphernalia one would leave behind in the car when having a meeting. Indication one: He’s not mobile; the company must be a struggling upstart.

Meetings are never in his office, there are always in Java or a place with Internet connection, where one’s only expense is a cup of coffee. Indication 2: No solid base. He spends an entire afternoon there with his Finance and Administration manager. Despite all this, he seems to know what he is talking about in his chosen field. My next step was due diligence. I called the guy who introduced us to get background on the young man. Reviews were positive: “He does good work for me, I like him, he shares his networks etc.”

Talks progressed about the business at hand in different venues but he would rarely have money to pick up the tab. Indication 3: Broke. I didn’t mind, I was the one pitching for the business, you are meant to wine and dine potential clients. He finally agreed to the pitch, expressed huge enthusiasm and committed to giving me the funds by July. He has a big Expo coming up and this was where he would find the money necessary to do the business. As time progressed, business talk slowly turned into: “Can I see you today? I miss you.” Then… “I need a hug.” What the…?

Before I knew it, talk of business was relegated to a simple “That’s already done, I’ve agreed to it, now let’s talk about us.” Eh, us? Oh dear. Now here’s a wonderful catch 22 ladies. Do you flirt and slowly count down to July? Or do you say, no, I’m taken. I chose the latter. But they have undying spirit these chaps: “Would you date a guy like me?” A direct question answered emphatically in the negative.

“Why not???” Persistence.

“Gee, let’s see, because I always pick up your tabs?” I respond, then laugh to take the sting out. Look, if we are discussing business, yes, I’ll pay for all the damn meals he likes but if we are discussing how you can trip the lights fantastic with me, then that’s a freaking date! YOU pay! Punk.

For once, he looks suitably embarrassed. “I don’t have my card with me, please pay and I’ll refund you.”

I paid. Needless to say the refund is not happening anytime soon. It gets worse – That was a late lunch that carried into early evening. Because he had “bought” lunch I offered to buy dinner. This guy is special. Having never been to an Italian restaurant before, he is so jazzed by the lasagne (first time he’s tried it) that he says he wants to order yet another plate to eat the next day. I’m not kidding. I watch incredulously as another meal is ordered for him to takeaway. Remember, he has no money. Who does that?

At this point you must be wondering what business I could possibly be getting from someone who doesn’t have two dimes to rub together. Trust me; I was wondering the same thing. Do I take a leap of faith or cut my losses?

Hard-Hitting Open Letter to all Entertainers, Fans & Clients. Take It or Leave It!

Having been in the industry for a couple of years, talented and witty comedian, TV/ Radio host and singer (yes, he sings too) Obinna Ike Igwe has seen a lot and it has been bothering him a great deal. He finally decided to get of his (Nigerian) chest.

He writes;

I see artists and performers even comedians (WE CALL THEM ENTERTAINERS) selling themselves short and settling for something less every other day!! Thats Stupid!!

It goes something like this;
…Phone rings…
Hello? Is this “Obinna”? We are calling you for an event and our budget is tight. (EVERYBODYS BUDGET IS TIGHT) How much are we talking about? 50k…oh realy? Am game. When is the event??

That’s stupid. You people stop selling yourself short and destroying the market for other Valuable commodities. It all works like this on every humans head, “If I can get “Obinna 1” for 50k why would I buy “Obinna 2” for 100k??”

And for the clients live your limit and if you can’t afford me kindly don’t call me and tell me how tight your budget is..we all got bills to pay. I won’t settle for less so if you call me kindly be sure you can afford me. Or call me and ask me for the phone numbers of the other cheap performers I’ll kindly give you.

Another thing. Entertainers…Don’t be called and told if Obinna takes 5k why can’t you take 6k and you rush for it. Don’t lower your standard just for the other IDIOT who doesn’t know their level.
And for clients don’t call me as the Last resort. Every Entertainer wants to be treated and the only one. Never pull the stunt of We Called “Obinna 1” and he couldn’t make it so we decided to call you “Obinna 2” so just come. That’s Immature.
Artists if you hate the other person simply don’t talk about them. Shut up and mind your business coz in the end when you talk bad about each other you are crippling yourselves. Rem…YOU WANNA TRAVEL FAR TRAVEL IN NUMBERS!!
This is a message to all the Entertainers out there. You want to be appreciated?? Then start by appreciating yourself first SmartAss!!!!!!

MEDIA!!
Kenya performers are very deadly but they never blow up big outside why?? You kill them.
You do interview for international acts all along and you can’t bring local people??
You Air international shows over 15 hours. ..5hours news and adverts and a day only has 24hours SERIOUSLY???

Obinna_2.jpg

ALL DJs
..you play a set of 10mins on TV and 8MINS you were mixing international music how do you expect this KENYAN ARTIST to blow up???
You Got international recorgnition why can’t you play Local content for the world to realize there is something they need to add from your home country?? iDIOT!!

PRODUCERS!!
..struggling so hard to sound like TIMBERLAND Nigga appreciate your culture!! ANTS ARE SO SMALL BUT THEY KEEP PERSISTING ON WHAT THEY DO AND END UP WITH AN ANT HILL!!
Don’t just record artistes for money. Record something you would be proud to hear people ask “which studio did you record at again??”
And stop killing morale of artists by keeping their songs for too long until the trend changes.

And for the FANS!!
This is what happens..
Who has a new song? ? Let’s download on YouTube and convert to MP4 and MP3 for free..how do you want our Artists to grow??

ITS TIME YOU SUPPORT BY downloading the song on @mdundomusic for a few shillings abeg and let the artist you love manage to pay his or her Bills.

I see very many artists live a lie…On TV and Radio they talk big but they don’t even have a Single house that they can pay rent for 10k every month and it’s not coz they aren’t working hard enough it’s coz of  PIRACY.

This is just my opinion. If you choose to read it, understand it.

After reading it continue living your life like nothing is wrong but if you are an entertainer, artist, or fan or media change starts with you!!

Rem even fermented milk is loved by many but truth it it’s Rotten!!

5 Gospel Artistes who crossed Over to Secular Music & Never Looked Back

Music is arguably the most popular art form in the universe; it knows no racial or national boundaries. And with the industry ever-evolving, there’s certainly more than enough room for every genre of music to reign supreme, even if only for a little while.

One type of music in particular that has seemed to stand the test of time is Gospel music. In the face of everything from messy controversies to messy publicized sexcapades, Gospel artists have proven that they can stand strong and weather the storm just as well as their mainstream music counterparts.

It’s also a lucrative industry which explains an influx of Gospel artistes.

However, there are those who saw the light and crossed over to Gospel from secular music but it wasn’t long before they jumped ship back to secular world because they, for instance, felt like they are losing their following.

Here are top five artistes who backslid;

{igallery id=7616|cid=1397|pid=1|type=category|children=0|addlinks=0|tags=|limit=0}

Yet Another Gospel Singer Jumps Ship to Secular Music

From DNA to DNG here comes another Gospel singer to cross over to secular music.

Former Gospel artist turned secular singer, Seroney, who despite all his previous success in gospel music has chosen to follow his intuition and passion by making music that he feels more connected to.

“I switched my audience because I felt that I was struggling to be who I am and trying to be like who I hanged around with; church community. And this being the Gospel industry, I honestly felt it was hypocrisy on my end” shared the out-spoken artiste with Mdundo.

“I have a new track, Sexy Lady, which is my debut single ever since the switch to secular music. It’s produced by Artish Pro and Swahili records. Fans everywhere should be ready to get a taste of rather artistic music with a dose of my personality.”

Download “Sexy Lady” HERE.

Mali Actor And Alisha popat Perform A Powerful Cover Of Christina Aguilera’s “Say Something” (VIDEO)

There are some songs that one would be well advised to stay away from when it comes to attempting to perform a cover. But then again, if everyone did what they were meant to do, evolution would have been stunted. And among the songs I would refuse to take on either as a challenge or merely for the LOLs would have to be anything by Christina Aguilera.

Why? Because her vocal range will have anyone gasping and croaking! But this Mali lad whom I am made to understand is actually a very gifted musician having even been to Berkley to study the science behind making music. And he teamed up with Alisha Popat for a very impressive cover of Say Something and I heard it and knew I would never forgive myself for not sharing this. So here it is:

Here’s One Song You Dedicate to Any Lady & She’ll Fall For You For Sure

Roso, a renowned singer , after the smashing track with khaligraph Jones ,kristoff and k47 –“fly” is back with a laid back RNB,jazzy  jam called “Usiku” featuring Jardel ( from the known group lyrical assassins, where  Calvo Mistari was a member).

Jardel begins the song in high note and Roso calms it down a notch in a rich crispy voice.

The chorus : (Kila usiku silali/ natafuta mali/ kama marimari / baby si utani/ jivinjari/ (maisha iwe shwari?)

The chorus done by both jardel and roso climaxes the song. – showing how we work to find love, in love and after love.

The third chorus  yabadabadoo, just shows how yes all is achieved and the happiness that comes with it.

With a blend in all the voices plus the producer’s (Richie, ATL Ent.) who couldn’t be left out of the fun, listen to this jam. Roso and Jardel are working on a couple of new tracks together. U got to love it.

Chipukeezy Loses Bet, Has To Wear A Skirt (PHOTO)

Chipukeezy is one of the most hilarious new comedians out and he seemed to stay winning ever since being discovered by Churchill but his luck must have worn out. He chose to bet with his co-host, Linda Nyangweso over the outcome of the world cup final and wouldn’t you know it, he lost!

Aye, he went in for some Messi magic but as we all know, individual brilliance failed to carry the day against a team that worked together as a well oiled machine. And so he lost thanks to a Gotze goal going for Germany and he had to rock the skirt and this was the outcome:

Kenzo’s Moving Tribute To His Mother Who Passed Away Will leave You In Tears (VIDEO)

Kenzo. A name that has been ringing in the Kenyan entertainment scene for a minute and a half now ever since he blasted onto the scene courtesy of Ogopa Deejays production label. Since then, he has faltered as his career saw starts and false starts after the other but I can now say he seems to have found something within himself that he has tapped to to create a wonderful, emotional and heartfelt musical offering.

It’s a tribute to his mother and when he sings and hits every note, you can feel the emotion in his voice and feel the weight behind every word and you cannot help but feel for his lose and indeed, if you’re a bleeding heart, you will cry for him like Argentina (see what I did there? No? Never mind!)

Doctor Behaving ‘Badly’ With Hospital’s Nurses Gets Caught

Trapped is a hilarious audience-pleasing fast-paced comedy. Its physical over-the-top makes our last show Dangerous Affairs seem like a prayer meeting by comparison.

The comedy is starring Kenya’s superstars directed by Derrick Amunga and Mbeki Mwalimu. The setting of Trapped is a medical hospital. A doctor (Nick Ndeda) is practicing the lecture he will deliver to an assembly of fellow gynecologists

in less than an hour. The speech’s success is vital to his career.

Interruptions abound. First it’s various other medical staff rehearsing for a performance (i.e. the cheeky Nigerian doctor played by Maina Olwenya; tough talking matron played by Veronica Waceke; a pregnant intern doctor played by Lulu Wilson and the new doctor played by Henry Gitau Ngogoyo). Then a long-ago ex (Wangari Gioche), who was once a nurse at the hospital, brings the news that she gave birth 16 years earlier to the doctor’s daughter (Janet Kirina) and the daughter is in the hospital in search of Dad! Yes, there is his harsh wife (Rosemary Waweru), and she knows nothing of the past liaison!

And in the spiraling chaos of deceit, false identity and manic cover-up that ensues, the mission is to avoid the daughter, pacify the ex, keep the chief specialist and hospital deputy director (Derrick Amunga) at bay and fend off various distractions, among them a patient from deep in the village excited by the goings-on (Johnson Chege) and an inquisitive police officer.

KTN Loses Another Top Anchor

In the past, KTN has had some of its top journalists and TV anchors move in search for the elusive ‘greener pasture’. And now, another top anchor is set to leave the TV station.

According to reliable sources, the only other Sports anchor other than Lyne Wachira, Nick Mudimba is set to part ways with the Standard Group owned TV station. The source further intimates that Mudimba is set to depart at the end of the month and is currently serving his one-month notice.

The source who sought anonymity revealed that Mudimba is headed to either Fountain TV or SuperSport – Kenya. However, there’s a strong likelihood that he might be joining the latter because they had a better offer.

Speaking to Mudimba on phone for a comment, he kept his lips sealed only saying, “No comment” even on further probing. He however said he will comment at the right time.

Mudimba joined KTN in 2011 as an intern and rose through the ranks to become an anchor.
