Kenya’s best performing musicians, Sauti Sol, has once again made headline globally as they got the highest accolades from BBC.

Talk of starting the year on a good note then 2015 has really started very well for Sauti Sol. The singing quartet has once again received another prestigious recognition from a global broadcaster, BBC.

Sauti Sol’s Lipala dance became a global phenomenon creating a gimmick that was well repeated the world over. As a result, BBC has compared Sauti Sol’s Lipala dance to Psy’s Gangnam Style.

Gangnam Style is the most watched music video on YouTube with over 2.2 billion views. Despite the fact Psy comes from South Korea, he went on to conquer the world with his mega hit walking over the dominating Americans.

BBC was inspired by Sauti Sol’s phenomenon dancing style which is now a global trend; the broadcaster compared Lipala dance to Psy’s Gangnam Style because of its ability to cross the border and influence people across the world.

Celebrities have been pouring in message to console and motivate Gloria Muliro since news about her separation with her husband hit the headlines.

A marriage break up is a bitter pill to swallow for married couples since everybody expects to stay with their partners till the end of time.

Former Tusker Project Fame pianist, Aaron Rimbui has disclosed something new about Kansoul that will surely excite music enthusiasts.

Aaron Rimbui is definitely one of the most revered pianists in East Africa. His amazing skill is well demonstrated in Tusker Project Fame (TPF).

Aaron revealed he is working something out with Madtraxx, Mejja and Kora. Kansoul has released a couple of songs that have dominated the airplay for a while. Among them, Double Tap and Nyongwa.

Kansoul is keen to bring Aaron on board as not only is he a professional pianist, Aaron is also keyboardist, band leader and producer who has lot of experience in making magical music.

Madtraxx confirmed Kansoul is plotting their next move with Aaron through his official Facebook page.

The celebrated gospel songbird broke up with her husband, Pastor Eric Omba, just five years into their marriage.

Gloria narrated the circumstances around their divorce, citing some as infidelity, harassment, among others.

Celebrated Kenyan rapper Rabbit aka Kaka Sungura has been on tour the neighbouring Tanzania of late. But why did he have to?

Well, Rabbit is among the top rappers in East Africa who have taken the hip hop industry to another extremely high level.

He, however, landed a deal with Tanzania’s Ommy Dimpoz and the two have been working since last year to come up with something for the fans.

And finally, what the two have been working on is just around the corner.

The two have revealed that their track, Njoo, is due to hit the shelves come February this year and have asked their legion to brace themselves for the big thing.

The work between the two is a clear indication that East African artistes are on the run to work together, a show of unity and togetherness.

It can also be remembered that Ommy Dimpoz have been working with Kenya’s Avril on a single they are yet to release.

After his unannounced departure from music, news started hitting headlines Jimwat had drown in alcohol sinking with his music career as well.

The song was released yesterday on YouTube but believe it or not by now, it has over 81,767 views. Miracle? No I don’t think so.

Probably they must have bought views from YouTube. It beats logic how a song released just a day ago could accumulate such views. Even “Nishike” the Kenyan song that has most views on YouTube (2014) didn’t get such kind of views within a short span of time.

One peculiar thing though, how come the song is so “popular” yet it is not receiving enormous airplay on the radio and TV stations like it is receiving on YouTube? The views on YouTube should have reflected on mainstream media or even around social media, people ought to be talking about it.The song also has less than ten comments on YouTube yet the views, over 80 thousand!

Anyway apart from the contentious views, the song is actually very good. Jimwat never disappoints; he has just proved he is still a good rapper as he was during his heydays. Got to watch that video, you will definitely like it.

The country woke up to very disturbing news that one of Kenya’s most talented gospel singers, Gloria Muliro, had called it a day in her marriage five years into it. Why? Infidelity.

Betty Bayo and Gloria Muliro have the same story line, their headlines read almost the same. There are a number of things we can compare between the two, from their music to their marriages to their break-up.

Let’s make some of these comparisons a bit real. Betty Bayo and Gloria Muliro are both artistes. And not just artistes but gospel artistes. They are among the female artistes in Kenya who have made great strides in the gospel industry. It was October last year that the world was told what was going on in a church in Nyamakima area, Nairobi. A rogue preacher, preying on his unknowing congregants with verve and vigour, was exposed on how he conducted his rogue activities.

This was Pastor Victor Kanyari, who also adds up as a self-proclaimed Prophet and Doctor. The expose by KTN’s Mohamed Ali and John Allan Namu left the country in awe, not knowing what to do next.

This was Betty Bayo’s husband. Pastor Kanyari was using all means to siphon money from his faithful. The potassium permanganate theory was born out of him. He must have been good in sciences despite him dropping out of school in form two.

What followed next was a flurry of unanswered questions that were directed at Betty Bayo. The singer set off on a mission to clear her name. She knocked on different media houses’ doors, including Ghafla Kenya to clear the dusty air. She was never involved in her husband’s rogue activities.

What did you do when your husband grabbed a handful of a boob live on camera? Betty never answered this question. All she could say was she was in deep prayer for direction.

And even before the Kanyari-Betty saga dust settles down completely, another one has rose after a heavy sandstorm.

Gloria Muliro, a veteran gospel singer in Kenya is on the run after a bitter break-up with her five year husband.

The singer is believed to have ended the relationship with the man of the cloth after it just became unbearable. A relationship characterized by lack of respect and infidelity, Gloria has finally decided that enough is enough and has opted to tell the world the hell she has been going through.

So the big question we ask is, what has come over men of the cloth? Why all these squabbles and scandals? The kerfuffle they are causing in their marriages is so disturbing.

Most ladies go for men of the cloth believing that they are down to earth, polite, understanding, and above all, saved. These, ladies believe, are the qualities that shape a real man. I mean a loving husband.

However, from the two incidences and many other unreported sagas, it is crystal clear that this is a misinformed priority and decision a lady can make. Not all men of the cloth are saints.

In fact it is turning out to be that these gentlemen who humble themselves through religion are the worst creatures God ever put on earth as far as relationships are concerned.

The other day I watched a documentary of how a pair of bears can become romantic. To an extent I asked myself, what has come of human beings that they cannot find these simple but very essential things necessary in their relationships?

Personally I feel disturbed that Gloria is one very unhappy woman considering how I value her music. And beauty. She may not be perfect either but did she deserve this, for sure?

I am writing to advise Kenyan ladies…Umdhaniaye ndiye kumbe siye. Let men of the cloth marry their own women of the cloth. Betty and Gloria’s cases are just an example of what many ladies are going through but cannot speak out because they don’t want to ruin their reputation as men of the cloth.

Why are these artists soooooo big in Kenya?? Bigger than our OWN Artists?? Why is Diamond and Chameleone the most played artists on 2 of Kenya’s biggest radio shows-Classic 105 Breakfast Show and Mzazi Willy M Tuva’s Mambo Mseto show?

Why are Davido and Wizkid the most played artists on some of Kenya’s biggest stations and Clubs including One FM,Kiss 100 and Kiss TV??

And why is Chris Brown and Rihanna such huuuuge cultural titans in Kenya?? Known and loved and followed and imitated and idolized by 80% of the urban Youth??

Let me tell You why. Its NOT just because they are artists. Or singers….with good music. I mean,we have millions of singers in the World anyway.

Well,its because,besides singing,these people ARE ENTERTAINERS.

There Is a Difference.

A singer is just any fellow that can walk into some studio,armed with a song, poorly-crafted or otherwise,record a song and proceed to have it packaged in a CD for mass distribution.

A singer is any fellow-or woman-that can hit the high notes… Craft a tune,work a beat and serenade masses with their voices. That’s all.

An entertainer,however,is a whole different person.

An Entertainer goes a step further. An entertainer doesn’t just sing…He brings the song alive,he connects with the listeners,he bares his soul and parades his life in the public domain, he shocks and outrages,an entertainer keeps the crowd yearning for more ..Not just more music…But more of HIMSELF. He is a living form of Entertainment.

And that’s why,in popular shows like Tusker Project Fame (TPF),Only the entertainers would manage to capture the crowds and stay in the house longer. Even if they were the least talented.

Tanzania’s Hemedi was an entertainer. Kenya’s Ng’ang’alito was an entertainer. And South Sudan’s K-Deng was an entertainer…too.

While other contestants were just a bunch of yawnsome,monotonous singers…with awesome voices but pathetic personalities, Hemedi,Ng’angalito and K-Deng went a step further. They didn’t just sing. They entertained.

Infact,they didn’t care much about their singing (Which in most cases was horrible anyway)…More than the entertainment they were feeding the viewers.

And look how far they went. Look how memorable they still are. To date.

But were they the best singers?? Actually,NO.

But they were ENTERTAINERS.

Yesterday,it was revealed that,according to Jaguar,a very huge Kenyan singer,Nigerians DO NOT PLAY Kenyan Music. Infact,they dare NOT touch it.

Yet they play Diamond. But why?? Its simple. Because they DO NOT know You. They do not know who this Jaguar guy is.

Besides the good voice,good song and good chorus…What more do You have to offer??

Who are You?? What do You represent?? What do You do?? Who are You dating?? What’s Your stand on various World issues?? What’s Your drama? Who have You broken up with last?? Who are You sleeping with?? Who are You fighting with on social media?? What car did You just buy?? When were You arrested last?? What the hell is that You wore last night???!!?

Those are the things that maketh AN ENTERTAINER.

Look at Diamond Platnumz. The kid is always on the news. Always. Either for dating controversial women and having very public break ups with them or beefing with East African Artists…Or going back to his old girlfriends or singing songs about death and showing up on stage with a coffin.

Look at Chameleone. Another Entertainer. One minute he is falling off storey buildings and braking his legs,the other minute he is having physical fights with Bebe Cool,the other minute he is dissing his own brother and the other minute he is living larger than the Ugandan President himself.

Davido and Wizkid are masters of controversy. The Kings of Entertainment. They’re in the news day in,day out. New music or no.

But the only time Kenyan artists are in the news is when they release a new,mostly crappy,song. Or post throwback photos of themselves looking like Siberian wolves.

Besides that,You will have to push and prod and pressure them to be in the news.

They prefer to live private lives…Mostly private pathetic lives. Ghafla Kenya ran a story of how Lingala Ya Yesu singer, Pitson, has showed signs of giving up on life a few days ago. (Read: Lingala Ya Yesu Hit Maker Gives Up On Life. What He Said Will Heartbreak You)

The singer had posted on his facebook page a message that clearly created controversy and which showed that Pitson was giving up on life in the year 2015.

This is the year of impossibilities

After that publication, the singer has finally come out to deny the report and says that he has not given up on life.

Pitson says that his previous post was misunderstood and that is not what he meant when he posted it on facebook.

He has said:

I have not given up, what i meant is, God can do impossible things using an ordinary man like me.
He is a God of impossibilities.He can do the impossible.

Gloria Muliro got married to her ex-husband Eric Omba Miko, a pastor,  in the year 2009 at a colorful wedding that was well publicized. Eric comes from Burundi and met Gloria in his many church ministries as a pastor. Poor Gloria’s nightmare begun as soon as they got married, Eric was a maniac, he was crazy about money, before they even got to enjoy the thrills of intimacy that night, Eric was all over the wedding gifts, tearing them apart looking for money which he quickly stashed in his pockets for later spending. 

Gloria was alarmed  but chose to take it lying down as some of the “perks” that come with marriages, but she was very wrong, soon after, the issue of children  came up, Gloria was not giving Eric babies like he wanted, (or Eric was not giving Gloria babies) Frustrated at the lack of children, Eric mutated into a new animal, he would beat his wife up at will and threaten to harm her if she ever got the word out. Gloria’s life became a living hell, She has to adopt two lifes, holding her head high in public and making believe that she had the best marital bliss and crying herself to sleep at night as her marriage went down the drain. 

Shortly after abuses begun, her life took a different toll altogether, Her husband no longer bothered about being around her , he chose a different method of making her life hell, he started sleeping around with girls in his Spotlight Media studio at Madaraka with the promise that he would make them stars just like Gloria. This frustrated Gloria the more, she wanted to stick around with the hope that the man she married in 2009 would come round and change his ways. But Eric Omba Was far from done. 

When they first got married, Gloria was barely known and had little that she called her own, but with the fame, came the real “perks” she became a star and money flowed, unfortunately for her, her husband registered all their property in his name: The Cars, the property and the land. 

Their marriage took 5 years to go down, Five years of pain, infidelity and abuse, and Just like a poorly erected building, it has come down, Gloria Muliro scampers away, broken and beaten down, but not out. She, like a Phoenix will rise from the ashes.
