Rapper Octopizzo is one of the most celebrated hip hop artistes in Kenya today thanks to his prowess in the hip hop industry. His game, for a long time, has been on top, with his closest rivals trying to catch up with him for a long unsuccessfully.

This perhaps explains why the singer becomes a subject of focus whenever he throws his support behind someone. He is known to harbor some ego you know.

Well, Frasha is delighted after Octopizzo rallied behind him for the forthcoming MCSK elections where Frasha has indicated that he is vying for the Director of MCSK seat.

Frasha himself is an established singer who has built himself a name through the P-Unit group. P-Unit has been one of the finest singing groups in Kenya and they have been in the industry for quite some time now.

Posting in his instagram account, Octopizzo urged his fellow musicians to vote wisely in the forthcoming elections and by that Octopizzo seems to have meant that they should vote for Frasha.

He said:

It seems many artistes are throwing their weight behind Frasha as they have indicated through their social media accounts.

He made headlines with his song that made some internet users trade insults all over the social media. The man behind the controversial song is once again tilting the spotlight to himself.

The song was called ‘Arsenal’ and Haq is the singer who dropped it. He was simply praising his favourite football club but the words used in the song rubbed some people the wrong way.

But Haq wasn’t done after releasing the video, the sprouting singer went on a mission to sharpen his lyricism to make sure he will be making people to voluntary lend him their attention when he hit the airwaves again.

The singer has dropped another song dubbed, ‘Bila Mapenzi’ which I have to admit is quite an improvement on his side.

For a moment, I almost confused him to a Tanzanian artist, the song has well refined Bongo tune and even Haq himself perfectly manipulated his voice to conjure to the beat.

‘Bila Mapenzi’ is a story of a young man in search of love. He finds it in the oddest place he least expected. The story is well told in singing so check out the video below:

“Bambika” – Shanky Radics and Lyrical Erico

There is an ironical lyric in this song which goes, “Bambika bambika nah ii goma noma, kwa sababu tunaanza na hatutakoma.” Well, ‘walianza na wakakoma.’. Shanky Radics and Lyrical Erico just couldn’t conjure up another hit. I saw Shanky perform at a Miss University gala in 2013. The boos were louder than his music. Poor guy. Recently he was on the trend and no one understood why he was there.  

“Manyake”- Circuit and Joel

Another anthem that made parents want to block the ears of their kids. In fact, the song was originally called ‘Juala’ but people renamed it to ‘Manyake’ by force. The jam was as massive as Judy Anyango’s behind. The video was shot in a butchery and the quality was as poor as that of Fagilia by Mr.Nice. However, that didn’t matter . All we wanted was to sing along

“Amka Ukatike” – Czars

A high school kid called Czars came up with this song. It’s production was top notch and the boy’s flow oozed talent. Czars was destined for great things but then he just went missing. Up to this date, no one knows where he is

“Toklezea”- Chantelle

She got married, had a baby and then erased music from her priorities list. She just might have turned out to be one of Kenya’s greatest female rappers had she not given up

“Walking Class’ – Ala C

‘Walking Class’ is a clever title for a song. It’s been two years since the Calif Records star had a hit. Some might argue that it’s still too early to label him a flop but I know a one hit wonder when I see one.

“Unanijazz” – King Georgez

I couldn’t even find his picture on the internet. He jazzed people of course. Perhaps he crowned himself ‘king’ too early. He could have been one if he had continued releasing such songs.

“Leta Wimbo” – Sema

The ‘super’ group Sema was formed in 2004 after the Coca-Cola popstar talent search. Kevo, Pam and Sana later parted ways in 2005. Now the last person standing is Sanaa. After the split, she went on to be a household name, leaving the others wondering what they did wrong.

‘Gyal” – Shavey & Slice

The road was clear for them since Kenya doesn’t have many dancehall artistes. They had the chance to rule the industry like Wyre and Redsan but then they just chilled like they had won a one million dollar lottery. Good luck to you guys wherever you are

“Njaro za mamboch” – Alahola

The internet doesn’t recognise him too. Alahola made mboches look so yummy. I think people who like ‘nyemelearing’ maids got inspiration from this song. A club banger it was but I have no idea where the guy disappeared to. 

“Usichoke” – Henrie Mutuku ft Rufftone

A true gospel sweetheart. Henrie had a voice that even forced atheists to listen to The Lord’s message. Her hit single Usichoke still plays regularly on Classic 105 and 1fm.

After being played by her man, the sultry songstress has decided to turn her back on him saying the dude ‘ankula huu’.

It has been long since Sanaa made any headline on the numerous news outlets. Even so, the sparking hot singer has found her way back to limelight.

Sanaa has decided to drop a new video where she was telling off her man for cheating on her. It’s another sensual video after the steamy ‘Mfalme Wa Mapenzi’ that was banned from the screen for ‘provoking’ our sexual feelings.

Dubbed ‘Ankula Huu’, Sanaa’s love song has the visual appeal to make you glue your eyes on her. She incorporates her flirtatious dance with her sweet smoky voice to make ‘Ankula Huu’ magical.

She sure knows how to make folks talk about her and she did just that with her new song. This one will make Team Mafisi salivate again!

Celebrated Kenyan songbird Avril was on the receiving end of Maasai Mara University students’ thirst after they fondled her buttocks as she performed on stage during Mzazi Willy M Tuva’s Mseto campus tour show.

As Avril performed, the male students would not resist the urge to touch her fundamendols clearly showing how thirsty they were over Avril’s contoured body.

And a few weeks after the incident, the singer has spoken about it, giving her views over the same.

Among the many things that Avril revealed about the incident is that her fiancée, who is South African, is a very disappointed man.

Avril has revealed that the fiancée was taken aback when he saw the photos of the students touching and taking selfies with the singer’s butt.

She says that she is, however, glad that her fiancée understands the situation she normally gets in whenever she gets on stage to perform.

Avril also talked about the incident telling a local blog: “Mob psychology is a tough thing to understand. No one has the right to touch someone without their consent but you’ll find that it’ll happen many times because people are different and what is wrong to some people might not be wrong to others. When one person does something, there always seems to have something like a domino effect.”

Yesterday I did a piece of 6 Kenyan Female Artists who’ve embraced SEXUALIZATION. By that,I meant female artists who’ve infused sexual connotations and their sexual allure into their art. Either by the way they sing,what they sing,music videos,publicity photos,the body parts they wish to show us when the camera rolls or even interviews.

And as I promised,here now is a list of 10 Kenyan female entertainers who’ve said NO to SEXUALIZATION. They’re sexy,they’re beautiful, they’re gorgeous and they’ve got burning hot bodies but still,they’ve refused to sexualize their image,they’ve refused to sensualize their art,they’ve refused to eroticize their music,they’ve refused to sexually stimulate their music videos or studio photos for the sake of showbiz,for the sake of numbers, for the sake of competition and the sake of the corrupt music industry.

And even though they’ve done a couple sexy songs,or worn a couple sexy numbers in their music videos,still,You get to see that they did it BECAUSE they were women. Not because they were sexual objects first. And then musicians second.

Here’s the LIST of the Sexualization Rebels.

They’re Kenyans India.Arie,Adelle,Zahara,Janelle Monae,Jill Scott….Kenya’s Solange Knowles whose sister Beyonce is the embodiment of showbiz sexualization.

1. WAHU
Obviously, Wahu had to top the list. She’s been one of Kenya’s foremost female artistes and boy,the girl is dangerously talented. She blew up after releasing the feminist anthems LIAR,SITISHIKI,KIBOWBOW and other such fast-paced Ogopa Deejay-produced tracks. She espoused the power of a woman. And the independence too. She roared into the industry by bashing errant men and,while doing it,still looking sexy and keeping her Campus boyfriend. Wahu never felt the need to sexualize her music-or image-for the sake of her showbiz status. She simply relied on her power vocals and brilliant song-writing skills to win us over. And she did….much to our (men) chagrin. She was a go-getter from the word go. And her fairytale wedding-and marriage to-singer Nameless totally yanked her off the sexualization radder. Good girl…gone better.

2. AMANI
Amani’s a good singer. But not sooo good. She’s also beautiful. And classy. And very secretive….good for her. Amani started off the same way Wahu did- at Ogopa Deejays doing those fast-paced dancefloor-friendly jams that really took us through the spirituous 2000s. After she did the hugely-popular jam “Papi” in the early 2000s,she followed it up with more hard-hitting jams like “Talk To You“,Bad Boy and Usiwe Mbali. But it’s her 2002 hit Ninanoki featuring Kamonski that really made her blow up. It was a huge hit. Huge huge huge. Amani still remained relevant and active and even though she sang about letting her man hit it in the song “Tonight” she still didn’t over-sexualize her message or dress super provocatively in the subsequent music video to pass her bedroom message across. Amani also has remained fiercely protective of her privacy. And personal space. It has hurt her brand, no doubt. But she seems not to mind. Well…

3. SUZANNA OWIYO
My Lord,there’s NOT an ounce of sexualization in this mama. Not an ounce. She’s straight up business….From beginning to end. She’s sang at the Nobel Ceremony,met Oprah Winfrey and entertained Presidents. All this without ever having to show some flesh. Or flash a thong. Or show some cleavage. One word- Classic.

4. NAZIZI
I must say that I do NOT know what Nazizi is really upto of late. Man,she’s been posting all these crazy,lip-pouting,semi-nude photos of herself of late. Either she’s trying to show up just how amazing she’s starting to look after hitting the gym or she’s desperately trying to hog the limelight and create a buzz for her new projects….as well as fighting for attention from these other new cats in the industry. Still,Nazizi,for the longest time,has parlayed her craft without ever needing to undress. Or look sexy. Or sound so. She actually was the tomboy extraordinaire. And she lived up to that asexual image so well that we were all shocked that a woman like her could actually get married and get a kid. She remained famously asexual. But of late…Girl’s been trying too many things. Desperate.

5. MUTHONI DRUMMER QUEEN
Muthoni’s more of a man than she is a woman. There’s NOTHING sexy in Muthoni DQ. And that’s the point. She’s got a business mind. And a tigerish entrepreneurial spirit. She’s result-oriented. All the time. And has her busy mind on the money. 24/7. With such zeal and famous drive,it’s hard to tell a woman to sit back and do her make-up. Or dress sexy. Or look so. Or sound so. She’s got a man’s image. And a man’s hassle. Can’t knock a girl’s hassle. To hell with sexiness! Utajua Nai Ni Ya Nani…..

6. WANGECHI
She’s the post-teenage genius rapper who encountered the very-publicized car accident late last year. She’s signed to music mogul Kevin Provoke. And after meeting her twice,I concluded one thing; Girl ain’t never compromising her image for nuthin’. Wangechi is another Nazizi. Dangerously talented and still NOT at all concerned on how to look sexy,be sexy or sound so. Damn,Girl doesn’t even have a damn boyfriend! She’s asexual like that. Her rap jams are iller than ill. She’s the Female Kendrick Lamar. But still,You will never see her go the Nicki Minaj way. Her boobies,butt and cleavage will stay hidden. For a loooong,looooong,loooong time. Sad.

7. STL
Hmmmmm…..I actually tend to differ. STL’s image is really sexualized. Or partially so. The amount of flesh she flashes in her music videos,photos and public performances is testament to that. She’s a tricky balancing act…she’s a tomboy. And a surreptitious sexual beast at the same time. She’s confusing really. And most of her song lyrics?? Profane! To say the least.

8. FENA GITU
She’s not thaaaat popular. I am not even a fan of whatever is it she does. Or sings. Or raps. Or whatever. And she dresses like six male drugs peddlers in Lagos,Nigeria. She’s never going to sexualize her image. Or show you some thigh. Never ever. But to be honest,its even better that way. Some people should just sing. And go home.

9. SAGE
Try singing like a goddess and then dressing like an usher. Tough, right? And yet Sage-Rabbit’s baby mama-manages just fine. Sage has the talent of the heavens. She’s a vocal powerhouse. And a dangerously gifted composer and performer. But still,Sage is yet to capitalize on her sexy body and genuine good looks to get ahead in this very competitive industry. She’s content with the little space she occupies. And doesn’t seem to ever want to show us some cleavage to get ahead. Or promote a single. Smart girl. Rabbit must be such a lucky ninja! Aaaarrrgh!

10. LUPITA NYONG’O
We all agree she belongs in the list,right? Especially with that hair and those full princess-esque dresses,she belongs nowhere better. Than here. We hope Hollywood doesn’t corrupt her though….But if the recent photoshoot she did for a French magazine is anything to go by,I am afraid. Very afraid.

Eric Omba came under the hideous glare of the spotlight after he was exposed as a philanderer. Begging for his wife’s forgiveness via social media only made it look worse for him and many feared that his career would go the Robin Thicke way.

Remember how Robin killed his career by releasing a cringe-worthy album that was a complete and utter flop in a bid to win back his wife Paula?
