First and foremost, the original Welle Welle song was absolutely amazing! ‘Twas a great jam with a great rhythm, great beat,great-infact awesome-video concept and even greater rap flow. All this from an unknown artiste Timmy…Let’s just say,He came in. With a BANG! Good job.
And now,Timmy,in collaboration with his producer Rapdamu, has decided to re-do the song…As so many Kenyan artistes are wont to do. The first real huge Remix we ever heard was the smash hit BANJUKA TU that was originally done by DNA and featured a whole gang of suoer sick flow kings including His Rapcellency,Prezzo.
And boy,was that THE REMIX! Infact,it stands as the BEST Remix to a Kenyan song to date. No remix, since then, has ever topped the Banjuka Remix. No Remix. Period.
Sadly,it is unavailable on Youtube. Arrrrgh.
Anyway, last week,Rapdamu,Pacho Records honcho, dropped the much-anticipated(Hmmm,Am not really sure) Remix to the smash hit Welle Welle.
The Remix features King Wa Rap,Collo,Nonini,Avril,Rabbit,DNA,Cannibal and Rapdamu, ofcourse.
Well,I shall attempt to dissect the Remix. And offer my two cents.
First, overall, the Remix is great. And real catchy. And bumpin’. Good job.
But how did the artistes perform? Individually??
Come with Me….
It starts with the gruff DNA voice that boisterously announces,“Ey,Na tuko tu Pacho kwani Boss iko nene??!” Great intro. I like it..
DNA
DNA’s verse comes off real good…And given his guttural voice and laidback flow, with minimal lyrics and straightforward rhymes,he,somehow, manages to seamlessly rap his way through the thumpin’ beat. And,unsurprisingly, does alot of justice to the beat. Alot. He doesn’t forget that signature laughter too…And then he starts rapping. But,sadly, just when you were starting to get used to the flow, the verse is up! Well,it’s a Remix. We’ve got to live with it…
Generally,DNA’s presence in the song was good And deserved…Overall,he scores **** 4 stars. Out of 5.
TIMMY
Timmy, the song’s original artiste is next up….He’s witty, funny and fresh. His rhymes in the remix are not so dissimilar to those in the original. And just like he killed it in the original,He does the same in the Remix. Clearly,he does not take himself too seriously. And that typical Jaluo accent is clearly applied in all rhymes. Very funny. I like it…As any club-goer definitely will. Minimal rhymes..but very catchy. As for his justice to the beat? Perfect!
Timmy scores **** (4) stars out of 5. If not 5 stars. Infact,he deserves 5 stars.

RAPDAMU
I seriously cannot tell at which point Rapdamu raps. Or whether he even raps at all….Maybe he pulling a DJ Khaleed on us. Unfortunately, his voice, unlike Lil Jon’s or DJ Khaleed’s is unrecognizable. Especially for someone who features in songs to introduce them ala Khaleed. And in that case,I shall assume Rapdamu is doing the chorus…which,as we’ve already agreed,is awesome. And the reason why the song is even a hit in the first place.
Rapdamu’s vocal performance does NOT stand out. But he gets credit for the impeccable audio production. Hmmm,2 ** stars for his almost unrecognizable vocal performance. 5**** stars for his audio work. Thumbs up.
COLLO
Collo,I have to say,IS THE KING OF THE FLOW. Man,this diminutive rapper simply slays the beat. And owns the song. Collo’s entry is exciting…His rhymes are complex and well-crafted. His lyrics is on a whole ‘nother level. His word-play? Orgasmic.
Collo does not just deliver..He kills shit. And buries it.
“Niko set ka square….’‘and “Don ka Bosco” are some of the lines Collo kills it with.
In my opinion? He’s the BEST performer in the Remix. He slays the beat. Like the Boss he loves believing he is. Good job.
Collo scores *****(5) stars out of 5. Yeeees! He’s tha King Wa Rap!

CANNIBAL
Hmmm,Cannibal’s presence in the song is abit shocking. I was uneasy when I learned that he’d be on the Remix. I mean, the beat is soooo Un-Cannibal. It’s a Club beat. And it’s a club song…things Cannibal is really not familiar with.
Well,In as much as his presence on the song was totally unnecessary,He tries to perform. But not so well. He sounds the same…And doesn’t really bring anything new to the already huge song.
Given the challenges,He does some serious justice to the beat. Actually, I totally love his rhymes towards the end of his verse…Well-thought out.
Cannibal scores ***(3) stars out of 5.
NONINI
Nonini has this tendency of always sounding the same…And of,sometimes, always needing to sound raunchy. To me,his performance on the remix, and the flow, reminds me of the 2004 Nonini. Which is good for memories. His performance, coming from such a star as him,is really not all that. Its lackluster. And rather predictable. But then again, the song is a party anthem . And so,he’s not so out of place.
I wouldn’t rewind his verse though….He could have done better. But,sadly, didnt.
He scores ***(3) stars.
AVRIL
Avril DID NOT NEED to be on this Remix. She DID NOT. PERIOD. I won’t even go into the details. I have other things I need to do. Damn,I can’t even rate her performance. I value my stars.
Oh,and before I go,who even dishes out Inspirational advice in a party song??!? It’s a party song for Chrisssakes! Want to inspire a sister? Go to Ngara Girls. Please.
“The thing about life is,You make what it is…Ukitaka furaha, kwa kweli You get it….” SERIOUSLY!!!!???
DNA
DNA comes back! And,in typical DNA style, does his thing again.Just when we thought he’d not rap again. I shall repeat,Artistes like DNA are the sort of artistes to expect on such a Remix. He’s cut for the dancefloor. And sings for the clubs. Perfect song for him to be featured in.
His performance, even on this other verse,is still, expectedly, good. He even tries some word-play. Although not on the level of Collo’s witty word-play,at least he tries. His own way…
I rated him earlier…It still remains ****(4) stars out of 5.
RABBIT
Whoever puts Rabbit and Collo in the same song DESERVES to be blessed. And rewarded. Rabbit, just like his rap compatriot Collo, does an immense of amount of justice to the song.
Honestly,I never thought he’d deliver. Naaah,I didn’t. His style of rap does soooo not correspond with the hype Welle Welle beat. But Alas,He did it! He,like Collo, killed the ish!
You know Rabbit will slay the beat when he opens with a booming “Buudah” followed by a Princely pause. I would rewind this song over and over just to catch Rabbit’s verse. Or simply just press forward to it.
It’s beautifully crafted, blends with the beat and theme perfectly, showcases Rabbit’s versatile rap flow and also showcases Rabbit’s boisterousness and the true essence of rap which is self-praise,ego centrism, gratification and name-drops.
Rabbit’s a true King Kaka. And,truly, this verse is a gem. And worth a second listen. If not a third and fourth.
Infact,I guess that’s why they decided that he was the PERFECT artiste to close the song. He was perfect!
And that word-play? Iko Welle Welle!
Rabbit’s Rating? *****(5) stars out of 5! Kwani Boss iko nene!!?

DISCLAIMER: This Cabu Gah’s review…That’s what I think and feel. And as an entertainment writer, fan and music consumer, that’s MY OPINION!
Tafadhali tusianze ku-catch mafeelings hapa, sawa sawa?

Overall,the Remix’s GREAT!
