 Let me break it down for you: The Vogue magazine is the biggest fashion magazine on the planet. For Vogue to write about you even once, you would have to be a pretty big deal. Lupita is a big deal out there, that is the reason she is the cover girl on September’s issue of the Vogue!

A couple of days back KOT had fun coming up with attributes and things that make one a Nairobian. In their usual selves, there was the hilarious, the stereotype and the outrageous. It got me back to my relatives and friends living in other town who are so ever critical of the place, or just never get to enjoy anything the beautiful hectic city offers.

For others this town whether born here or the hustle got you here, this City is home and even when real home calls you either leave part of yourself back here or take your Nairobism with you. So what defines a Nairobian, here are the attributes of the ultimate Nairobian

1.       Suspicion

The Nairobian is suspect of, and suspects everything and anything. Years of tales and experiences with con artists, police, kanjo, bosses and mboches , beggars and brokers have made the Nairobian suspect of everything that they have acquired similar characteristics themselves. Such suspicion makes him (am sticking with one pronoun) move houses at night and has him getting three friends in any deal not for witnesses but as security. It is also the reason behind crazy behavior like; struggling to get loose change just in case the conductor ‘forgets’ due change, rushing past any person approaching him on the street even if it is to hand back a dropped item, and the endless taking of selfies especially in the office just to be sure you belong there.

2.        Knows the importance of pesa ya macho

Of all the payments the Nairobian makes willingly and will even offer unasked is pesa ya macho. Whether it is in order to have, his car watched over or for someone who has spotted a deal, job or new house, ‘pesa ya macho is not something he will risk not to hand out.

3.       Image

The ultimate Nairobian knows that his image is the single most important investment in a city where the book is judged by its cover and reputation nothing else. There are people feared and those adored even without having interacted with most of the people from whom they elicit such reactions. Whether it in dating, work, church or within the neighborhood, the right image in Nairobi gets you places character and qualifications can only get you to the application stage. Hence, the investment in phones, clothing, accents, hobbies, vehicular means of transport and neighborhoods. No it is not consumerism it is survival.

4.       Networking aka Connections

The ultimate Nairobian understands without having gone to a motivational talk the importance of having the right connections. The emphasis here is on right. He will have the numbers and be in good terms with the local shylock, SACCO manager, watchmen, mama mboga, a couple of policemen, a number of brokers, doctors, someone at KRA , County council etc. the trick here is not having all these people’s contacts but knowing someone who knows someone who…

5.       Man eating tendencies

The late Julius Nyerere in describing Kenya as a man eat man society erred in the generalization. Sure all Kenyans are hustlers but Nairobians are on another level. A Nairobian will sell you what they understand is a poor deal blinking an eye not in trepidation, but as a seal and comfort you on your way to hell. Don’t deny when you can recall the couple of times you have bailed out on your friends and family…it is the name of the life and here you hate the players and praise the game.

First off, it is official being a socialite is a career and it involves among many other things denying that you are one. The idea of being a socialite is to be trendy and constantly on the news not this maintaining low profile hogwash they are feeding us, methinks it is due to lack of ideas that this has happened so I have come up with game changing plans for the ones seeking to get to the next level;

1.       Do a sex tape

Yes, a sex tape and professionally done not in some dingy place. A full length sex video will basically have the whole nation going bonkers and all churches praying for you and condemning you in equal measure. The said video can be conveniently leaked without the parties’ knowledge and allow for ground of denial and calls for respecting self-privacy. And the men and women consumers of all the antics you have been feeding us will have content to chew on till kingdom come.

2.       Marry divorce, marry again divorce and then be eternally engaged

Freedom is a socialite’s most valued asset next to publicity. However, freedom can be sacrificed for a short while for long-term gain and attention traction. The marriages are to be strategically done, first to some old pensioner depending on the rejuvenating effects of the blue pill and enough cash to sort you for the life after a divorce of course convenient again. The second marriage is to a young upwardly mobile younger person, as in way younger than you but in the public limelight…of course you again realize the folly of your ways and part ways and get to the level where you remain in perpetual dating mode.

3.       Get a reality TV Show

Forget about playing a host to a talk show. Have your own reality TV and no we don’t want a full detailed account of your life, nope, just your dates, raving antics and anything along the lines. Take advantage of the digital space have a YouTube channel where no one keeps on flashing ethics and censure regulations to you. Be the boss

4.       Start a club with strippers at some VVIP section

Now, I sincerely do not get it with these trend of every celebrity getting a clothing line or having a fashion store with clothes and woman fashion items. Sure women love the items but very few make it to profitable terms and have regular clientele on a daily basis, now contrast that with the a club and one which men and women revelers know they will get something extra… it complements all the other and your income and it is very logical. Get your entrepreneurial spirit out running…

The Pan-African music platform, Bozza, has today announced that it has teamed up with The Drum, the UK’s most visited marketing news website, to help a select group of Sub-Saharan African artists to achieve just that, as part of the unique Do-It-Day, which will take place in London and New York on 2^nd November.

4. The crowdfunding campaigns will go live and each artist will have every chance of reaching their total at Do-it-Day.

5.The artists whose crowd fund meets the target needed will be flown over to the UK for a one-off, once in a lifetime, concert in a top venue in London in early 2016.

Miss Kariuki is set to launch the first ever East African Community Expo, specifically targeting women, which will be happening at KICC on 24th of October 2015 at KICC. Already more than 5000 participants have confirmed they will be at KICC come Thursday next week.

Michelle says the aim of the expo is to economically empower women from the greater East African region.

She believes poverty is indiscriminate that’s why she started Pink Gal Africa to provide ANYONE whose life is blighted by poverty, the opportunity to earn a legitimate income through the first ever East African Community Expo.

Of late, Kenyan politicians have left us at a complete loss of words due to some of the things they are spending taxpayers’ money on.

First it was the Bungoma County Government spending close to 110,000 on a wheelbarrow which added up to around 1.2 Million for 10 wheelbarrows!

Wheelbarrows which were used to ferry CHICKEN from a slaughter house. Next some M.P ‘opened’ a bridge with pageantry and elaboration and now a new photo has emerged that has had us crying Photoshop! Because of just how surreal and ridiculous it looks!

It’s a photo of Gichugu M.P commissioning a rural electric power transformer at Gatomba village in Gichugu yesterday.

Something which he will do to 48 transformers by the end of the year in a project that is expected to supply electricity to 1200 households in the area.

Douglas wasn’t born deaf. He once had the ability to hear but at 5 years, the unexpected happened and he was denied one of the 5 human senses.

The ‘silent’ singer gave his music career a big boost when he came to Nairobi where he worked with Deaf Empowerment Kenya (DEK) and Undugu Society Kenya (USK) to refine his music skills.

You can’t turn a wh***re into a housewife. Saying that a video vixen isn’t a wh***re is like saying a stripper is wifey material. Never gonna happen. I’ve noticed a rather peculiar trend in Nairobi. Guys just like staring at women and salivating over them without taking any action. A few years ago, I was also struggling with approaching girls and getting their numbers. I remember some fine mamiis who I wish I could have had the courage to approach, but I was clueless on how to do it.

Then were times too when I tried to hem and haw my way into a chat with a girl, desperately wanting to get her digits, but I still had no idea how to make it happen. Tragic indeed. But why was I struggling so hard like Torres in front of goal ? I mean, what was preventing me from just blurting out the phrase, “Hey, can I have your number?”

I hadn’t planned my approach in advance. And when you don’t plan yourself, bad things keep happening. I like quoting rappers so allow me to quote Rick Ross, In the song ‘John’ he says: “If you get in trouble that just means you are messingup”. When you plan yourself, you rarely mess up, hence you never get in trouble

So there I was – a coward, afraid of spitting the wrong lines to girls. I was afraid of being ridiculed, snubbed and rejected.

Time and time again, I found myself in scenarios where I saw chics I wanted to date or shag but had no clue how to get them. But then I realized that it was just fear and I could solve it. I started studying the “naturals” — the guys who succeed with women effortlessly

I laid out a plan…

I began emulating all that they did, like an infant learning to walk. I started approaching and I learned. Out of many times that I approached girls, I never once had one respond by getting angry, saying something unpleasant or acting offended. The first it ever came to was the girl walking away. Most of the other times , I succeeded. I stopped staring at women like they were spaceships and I began pursuing them. .

Saudi Arabia has gained the unsavory reputation of treating women like second class citizens where they require consent from a male guardian to work and drive.

Women are also not allowed to wander outside without being accompanied by a male companion commonly known as a ‘mahram’, drive or even read uncensored magazines.

But perhaps the worst crime of all has got to be the punishment levied against female rape victims.

A while back , a 19-year-old woman who was a victim of violent gang rape in Saudi Arabia was sentenced to 200 lashes and six months in jail.

This was after she was found guilty of being “indecent” at the time of the assault, simply because she was not accompanied by a male chaperon. The rapists who should have gotten the worst punishment possible were given simple sentences. This goes to show the little disregard they have for their women.

Now a Kenyan woman identified simply as Violet is set to be executed next week after apparently seducing her employer. The girl was in fact raped by her employer but the Saudi court will hear none of it.

To help save this girl from the clutches of death, Kenyans led by rapper turned human rights activist K-Nel are now joining hands to save this lass. He gave us an update on the Kenyan girl sentenced to death by hanging in Saudi Arabia

Sonko recently lost his father and politicians and other A list celebrities yesterday showed up for the funeral of the late Gideon Kioko Mbuvi at Mua hills in Machakos, County.

Those in attendance include Uhuru Kenyatta, Kiambu Governor Kabogo, NairobiGovernor Kidero and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua who joined the crowd that came to console Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and his family members during the funeral service.Here are some pictures of the A-listers at the funeral
