They once graced our airwaves with their up to per talents; their melodious voices and striking beauty. But oouuww!!!! They’ve decided to bid us their byes or rather, have been forced to take a leap of faith and forge ahead to their future hustles.

The week has witnessed tremendous exits from various media houses. Whether it is downsizing or in search of better talent, Kenyans will miss the curvaceous Sheila Mwanyigga to the calm and composed Kendi Ashitava.

What in the name of God could be happening to such faces of media? How can the likes of DJ Krowbar wake up and decide to quit his greener pastures? Could it be that they are now part of the management team or have these personalities decided to merge and come up with a more powerful media house that comprises of TALENT?

Looking at the list of quitters; SanaipeiTande, CikuMuiruri, DJ Krowbar, Kendi Ashitava, AntoNeosoul and Sheila Mwanyiga, this team is capable of producing results. And they did it the various media houses they were employed before their untimely exit!

Though most of them have left their various stations with heads held high, Kenyans are of the opinion that they haven’t had enough of them and are hoping to link up sometime in the near future, God willing.

Wherever you will be sending your CVs, hope they get approved ASAP so that we do not get to forget your contributions to the industry.

Jalang’o is arguably the second best comedian after Eric Omondi who hails from the Lake Region. As such, he commands a huge following in Kenya’s third largest city!

Felix Odiwuor better known as Jalang’o is a darling of many. His role as a comedian and TV presenter has earned him admiration and esteemed fans from all over the country.

The comedian made his way to the Lake Side City of Kisumu and he was greeted by surprise from residents who couldn’t hide their joy.

Thrilled Kisumu resident mobbed him when they landed their eyes at him. Perhaps they though he was splashing cash like he does on his show ‘Jalang’o With The Money.’

Fans drew Phones to capture the moment with the comedian who was donning his signature green suit and a yellow checked shirt.

If you have never heard of MTV, you are too old for this article, but just to be nice because it is a colorful Friday morning from where I’m chilling at, MTV is an American Cable network that is basically about entertainment, showbiz and whatever else is cutting in the entertainment world. 

The Cable network that has its headquarters in New York is soon headed to the untapped musical hub that is East Africa! Ghafla got the exclusive information through the editor who is currently on a summit in Mauritius where he got a chance to interact with the MTV, BET top tier officials. 

MTV will be launching a 1 hour  MTV base show in East Africa that will focus on the best talent that East Africa has to offer by focusing on an artist’s life by answering: Who the artist is,why is the artist so successful and the genre of the music that the artist does. 

Finally, the world stage is closer home. 

More details of when the show will hit E,Africa will be communicated all in  good time.

Rights Activist, Boniface Mwangi, and his family are stranded in France after French police unwarrantedly detained them.

Boniface touched down in Paris from New York to connect a flight to Nairobi. Unfortunately he missed his connection flight following delay in the US.

Air France gave Boniface and his family new tickets to fly to Nairobi via Amsterdam, the Dutch capital. But even before they could fly to Netherlands, French police detained them.

Reason being? They lacked Schengen visas (Schengen is an area comprising 26 European countries that have abolished passport and any other type of border control but non Europeans are required to have special visa that allows them to move around these countries.)

Boniface says Air France didn’t notify them of this requirement so they ended up being detained by French authorities, probably mistaken for refugees.

We understand the Syrian crisis has caused a huge influx of refugees into Europe and West European nations have been VERY reluctant to host these asylum seekers. But Boniface and his family AREN’T refugees. He only flew to France to connect a flight back home so the action by French authorities to detain them was totally uncalled for.

The Activist further revealed French police weren’t giving him space to breathe. They followed him everywhere including the bathroom.

“So three hours later in the border police unit (where I had to be escorted to use the toilet, which doesn’t lock) they gave us new boarding passes for a flight leaving tomorrow morning.” Wrote distressed Boniface.

The poor Kenyan is still locked in Paris Airport with his family because cold-hearted French police don’t give a damn about a stranded black African man traveling with his family.

“We are still stranded at the airport and now trying to find what to do with the kids sleeping at every bench and floor we stop at. French police have refused to let the airline get us a hotel or so they claim. I went back to the border police base to ask about the denial and the officer l found couldn’t even look at me. The French police may justify they’re trying to keep out illegal immigrants but the lack of empathy, understanding and zero effort in listening to us hurts. We are stranded in France not because we want to but the airline made a mistake and we the paying passengers are suffering.”

Chipukeezy has a number of side hustles; a presenter at Kiss FM, a stand-up comedian among other occupations. But it’s comedy that built him a name and it’s the proceeds generated from comedy that he is using to transform his rural home in Ukambani.

Chipu has secretly been transforming the lives of the less fortunate in upcountry. The comedian has a project geared towards promoting education.

He says education wasn’t a priority in his village due to the sorry state of public primary schools.

“I grew up in this village and education wasn’t a priority to many kids simply because they couldn’t afford and if they did, passing or getting a good grade was a miracle because the public school along this place is a joke

It’s for this reason that the Churchill Show humorist embarked on a project of constructing classes with the money he earns from cracking jokes.

Chipu has already constructed a number of classes but the project isn’t complete yet. He will officially open the classes on 13th November 2015.

Risper Faith, the bootyfull born-again socialite has shunned the media opting to host events at popular night club instead.

Well, the spotlight is now chasing after the well-endowed B-List socialite. A bitter friend dragged her spongy ass back to limelight!

The friend was on a mission to harm Risper’s ‘good reputation’. She brought forth an old photo and also revealed the socialite used to wet her bed in school.

She says Risper was an alumnus of Lugulu Boarding Primary School in Webuye, Bungoma County. A school she also attended.

Larry can be flirty ehh! The outspoken anchor is currently locked in the beautiful Indian Ocean island of Mauritius attending the second edition of the MultiChoice Africa’s ‘Content Showcase Extravaganza’.

Celebrities, members of the fourth estate and several other entertainment personalities drawn from various African countries have gathered at Outrigger Spa and Resort in Mauritius to exchange ideas on African television entertainment among other stuff.

Nation Media Group (NMG) has continued losing notable journalists in a span of just one week! ‘I Am Live’ host has left the Kimathi Street media house.

Was she shown the door or was she fired like Sanaipei Tande, Ciru Muriuki and other Nation FM presenters?

Two days after the Nation FM total wipe out, Sheila surfaced to break news she had also left the station after dedicating 11 years to serving NMG.

“It’s a wrap at Nation Media Group for me, but what an epic time I have had. Even as I move on, I must say thank you to each and every listener, and viewer who tuned in to whichever medium I was on and engaged with me.” Sheila wrote in part.

The dazzling presenter wrote a lengthy article thanking various personalities that played a role in her success in media industry.

Sheila concluded by revealing she was a stakeholder at NMG; that simply means the success of the media house is still significant to her life.

“I wish the Nation Media Group well and success- I am a shareholder after all, and I hope the Group shall continue availing avenues of growth to every person who walks in to the building!”

Kenyans are now crying out in indignation after Multichoice Africa increased their rates for premium subscription to Kshs 9400 from 8,200.

An increase Multichoice blames on the slow decline of the shilling among other reasons which you can check out here. While some Kenyans have gone ahead and threatened to boycott the Pay TV providers, Kenyan influencers Sonko and Alai have thrown their weight behind the organization.

Nairobi Governor and Senator have long treated each other with suspicion. Their relationship can best be compared to the one US and Russia had during the Cold War era.

Some two days ago, a twitter handle bearing Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi’s name tagged Ghafla! and other sites a screenshot of what can best be described as character assassination.

The handle posted a screenshot of a tweet Nairobi Governor, Dr. Evan Kidero, had allegedly posted on his timeline.

The tweet read; ‘I just got out of a meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta. I recommended to him that he should jail all barons including head honcho Mike Sonko’

The authenticity of the tweet can’t be proved since it’s missing on Kidero’s timeline even though Kazungu Kambi claims he pulled it down.

Sonko once blasted Kidero in presence of DP Ruto at a function in Gikombaa for labeling him a drug baron.

Do you believe is bold enough Kidero to tell President Uhuru to arrest Sonko then dash to twitter to boast about it?

9400 Kenyan shillings just to watch sponge bob lay butt naked on the beach catching up on Huddah Monroe’s latest escapades on instagram? That’s the predicament currently facing DSTV subscribers after Multichoice Africa increased their rates for premium subscription to an all time high of Ksh 9400 from 8200.

Of course Kenyans being Kenyans, they were not bound to take this lightly so they started an online onslaught in an aim to get to the bottom of the matter. Some even started a petition which is intended to stop the so claimed ‘exorbitant’ prices.

Before you buy into  the hype however- you loyal DSTV subscriber, before you get into the murky waters of TROLLING and rebuke, take a step back, ignore the mercenaries who are not even DSTV Premium subscribers and get to the bottom of the matter. As a matter of fact, let me do that for you.

I happened to have a lengthy discussion with the MultiChoice CEO Tim Jacobs and this is what he had to say about the revised rates.

Firstly it is not entirely Multichoice’s fault that the prices have gone up, if it were up to them, they would love that you have an endless supply of the latest music videos and EPL matches. In case you haven’t noticed, the shilling has depreciated greatly in the last few months so it’s only healthy that a business adjusts to the situation on the ground, which is what Multichoice has done. Actually according to Tim, they have struggled with the decision for months hoping things would lighten up but this has not been forthcoming.

He insisted that DSTV was intent on providing a wholesome experience in video entertainment which cuts across pricing and great content and thus the various bouquets (Premium, Compact +, Compact, Family & Asccess) to ensure everyone is catered for. There exists a variety of bouquets to ensure flexibility in price and choice without compromising quality or variety.

Plus as a value add to the revised prices, all premium subscribers are entitled to video on demand services which go a long way to offer quality and choice and can be accessed on any devise including mobile phones and tablets. And unlike other pay per view services, you actually don’t need an internet connection to access this content. Come on, we all know internet speeds are not exactly commendable in Kenya. It also doesn’t make economic sense to watch LIVE TV using a modem. The data charges would be astronomical. The content ranges from SuperSport live which gives you the opportunity to view live sports over the internet to Box office which gives you a broad range of the latest movies.

I was still not convinced so I delved further as to why there is still a huge pricing margin between Kenya and other markets, with the most notable being South Africa and as I came to find out,it’s a whole different ball game in that part of the country. Again it’s not Multichoice’s fault, scale actually plays a big role in bringing the prices down. If you have millions of subs in one region, the cost isn’t the same with a region with only a few hundreds.

And what about having a dedicated sports bouquet? According to Tim, it’s not as easy as it looks as the way the bouquets are arranged form the intricate part of the company’s business model and the price deferential wouldn’t be as much as people like to see it. The pay TV business is modeled like that of a newsroom where content is sold as a whole. You can never buy sports pages alone. The same applies to TV. In any case, pay per view models like HBO for boxing cost over $100 for a single boxing match like the recent Floyd Mayweather – Manny Pacquiao duel.

However, Tim was categorical that price would reduce if the shilling appreciates in the near term.

All in all, they were surely getting round to it. So there you have it, all the facts laid down on the table!

Eric Omondi has finally decided to mock Kenyans with his newest talent; whether inborn or acquired. This has sparked uproar and made Kenyans on social media react to his antics.

This lakesider has decided to lie to people that he can run better than the Kalenjin brothers and is advocating for anyone out there to please tag Qatar since he can also do the huddles.

He further added that he can not only run the huddles but he is also good in so many fields including cooking. Guess the hustle is real and Eric is feeling the pinch and is trying to engage his 1GB in athletics.

Dreadlocked rap-sensation Juliani and Brenda Wairimu’s beau was recently in the land of beautiful architecture, beer gardens and sexy accents; London.

While there, he paid a courtesy call to Southampton Mid-fielder Wanyama. And from the pictures, Wanyama’s house is a far cry from the life he enjoyed back in Kenya. In addition the talented player’s Range Rover is still intact after it was stolen and recovered last year.

Said to originate from African descent, the basis of the essentials of twerking—a dance move that focuses its energy on the buttocks and hips,has existed for centuries and was usually performed by elderly women when a song with a certain type of ‘praise’ is involved. It has become monotonous

When everyone is reputedly doing something and doing it horribly, it ceases being entertainment and becomes a tragedy. Twerking is dangerous trait for a young woman’s development. It has clogged creativity

Nowadays pop into a club, you don’t even enjoy seeing ladies dance anymore. This is because they are all doing one move –twerking. What happened to creativity? , The glorification of twerking and ‘dancing dirty’ have spread like wildfire within young populations.No one wants to do anything else – just twerk

It enforces the degradation of women

Like it or not, twerking takes us back to 1845, an era where women were only to be seen and to be shagged, not to be heard. Twerking portrays women as sexual creatures and so long as men continue picturing women in that perspective, respect shall be thrown to the dogs.

It promotes the slut culture

With twerking so engrained in modern dance culture, it’s hard not to question the effects that it has on society—particularly the female population. Twerking is terrible and degrading, as it tends to have a negative connotation against individuals who decide to twerk everywhere. The dance move is too suggestive and not classy. Women that believe investing their time I shaking their bodies is a great idea also tend to thing that sleeping around is a great idea.
