Royal Media Boosts Citizen TV Undisputed Dominance With The Launch Of 4 Sister TV Stations

Both Nation Media Group (NMG) and Standard Group have sister stations for NTV and KTN. RMS entirely relayed on Citizen TV to dominate the market but this is to change soon.

Citizen TV is already the market leader with close to 50% of TV market share in Kenya. Apparently the leading media house isn’t satisfied with their market share, that’s why they are launching 4 more TV station to compliment Citizen TV.

Well, the four TV stations are the ‘extension’ of popular vernacular RMS radio stations. Yes, Royal Media is launching its first vernacular TV stations.

Inooro TV, a 24-hour Kikuyu language channel, Ramogi TV (Dholuo) Chamgei TV (Kalenjin) and Musyi TV (Kamba) are the four vernacular TV stations that RMS is launching.

Inooro TV will be the first one to hit the screens ( On 26th October) then Ramogi TV, Chamge TV and Musyi TV respectively will follow. (RMS didn’t specify when exactly they will be launched).

RMS Managing Director, Wachira Waruru, promised the 4 TV stations shall be pacesetters just like Citizen TV when they go on air.

Liverpool Fans, Here’s Your Chance To Meet Jurgen Klopp #GuinnessGetBooked

Liverpool’s mantra is ‘Never walk alone’ but most fans of the great English club having been tired of walking alone of late. Results have not been great and a good coach has been sacked in the process. Well if you are a Liverpool fan, you don’t have to walk alone anymore. Guinness is taking you to Anfield to enjoy the experience and even get the chance to see your new coach Jurgen Klopp live.

Guinness Get Booked Again campaign is almost halfway. It rewards Guinness drinkers by giving six of them the privilege to travel to the England and watch the Barclays Premier League live in the current season. Consumers also get to win cash prizes and merchandise weekly during the countrywide in bar activations.

Twelve lucky Kenyans also walk away with Ksh 100,000/= each in the weekly draws with others winning airtime and merchandise during the countrywide in-bar activations.

Note that this is just not limited to Liverpool fans. I only think that they deserve it more given the more the trouble they have gone through. But that’s just my opinion. It’s the Guinness guys that get to decide. So whether you are an Arsenal, Liverpool or Chelsea fan, you all stand an equal chance.

SO yeah, loyal Guinness consumers are getting rewarded through various in-bar activations that are being held in over 5,000 bars across the country as well as through the Guinness APP

Celina Gets Overwhelmed With Excitement Following What Lupita Nyong’o Did For Her Celebrity Boyfriend (Photo)

Ex Mother-In-Law actress, Catherine Kamau aka Celina can’t thank Lupita Nyong’o enough for what she did for her boyfriend Philip Karanja.

Celina’s sweetheart quit Tahidi High (He played Melvin if you can remember him) to focus on directing other TV productions.

His work is best seen on The Real Househelps Of Kawangware (#TRHK) a comic program that follows the lives of 4 househelps. TRHK airs on KTN on Wednesdays.

Well, Philips’ creation has now crossed border. Oscar award winner, Lupita Nyong’o, who lives in the US, has revealed she is a fan of the The Real Househelps Of Kawangware.

Lupita’s approval of TRHK melted the heart of Celina who couldn’t help but jump up and down praising her boyfriend and thanking the Hollywood actress.

Kenyan Casanova Boy Cons And Cheats On His Aged British Wife With 47 Side Dish Ladies From Across The World (Photos)

This ninja’s game is on another level. He made his spouse finance his philandering missions with other women before he was busted and exposed.

We have heard such kind of stories too many times but not like this one of Ovi Elias and his British wife, Judith Stillwell.

Cases of white women searching for energetic black men that can drive them hard like a ferocious Range Rover ramming through a muddy Kenyan road have hit headlines a million times already.

But 61-year-old Judith Stillwell, a divorced parish councilor, thought she had found genuine love when she met a Kenyan man, Ovi Elias.

They met on a dating website and after three years of courting, they finally decided to walk down the aisle hoping to live happily ever after, at least Judith thought so.

Well, things turned out worse of the British granny. Her Kenyan hubby turned out to be the personification of lie. He fabricated stuff to win her love.

As Judith would discover later, Ovi was an international Casanova boy who used her life savings to finance his promiscuous missions abroad.

The divorced parish councilor says her hubby lied he had properties in Dubai that’s why he used to travel overseas quite often.

By the time she discovered Ovi was travelling abroad for debauchery assignments, her account was already drained of Kes 3.9 million.

Judith learnt her prince charming was just another scoundrel with a loose zip when Ovi used her laptop and forgot to close his emails properly. She found a list of 47 women her husband was cheating on her with. And most of them were in the far end of planet earth.

Unseen Scenes Of Dennis Okari And Betty Kyallo’s SECRET Honeymoon Romance (Video)

The two lovebirds travelled to multiple ritzy destinations for their honeymoon. Unseen scenes of their romantic escapade have now been captured in a video.

Yes I know you have seen the photos, they went viral the moment the KTN anchor shared them. But there is a video which I bet you haven’t watched yet.

Betty and Dennis travelled to the Coast immediately after their wedding in Karen. They spend the first phase of their honeymoon in Diani after which they went back home to spend a minute with Baby Ivanna.

Thereafter the newlyweds flew to Dubai to connect a flight to the beautiful island of Mauritius. I can say their honeymoon began in the Indian Ocean Island.

The video footage shows the romantic side of the ‘usually reserved’ Dennis Okari. The NTV journalist didn’t win Betty’s heart by chance, not at all.

The Ninja knows A-Z about treating a lady like those lovey-dovey men in Mexican soap operas. The dude inscribed a love note for his wife on a bamboo tree.

I can’t explain it any better so just watch the video below and see why Betty fell heads over heels in love with Dennis;

This Is What Nonini Was Up To On Friday Down At The Coast (Photos)

While every major artiste was busy on Friday preparing for a gig over the weekend either in or out of the country, Nonini was up to something else in a quiet manner.

The self styled ‘Mgenge True’ was attending to his Color Kwa Face’ initiative business and this time duty took him deep in Likoni to a school even the locals were not so familiar with. Nonini surprised the area when he visited Likoni School For The Blind more so the head teacher herself. Aside from the members of the initiative, Nonini was joined with staff from the betting firm SportPesa and together they donated sunscreen and other material to the school and gave the school community a great time. Here are photos from the occasion;

Young Girl Sandwiched To Death by Two Careless Matatus Outside Tuskys (+Photos)

Kenyans have over time complained about the sheer carelessness and rougish behavior expressed by Kenyan matatu drivers.

And just how careless and irresponsible they are was demonstrated on Friday near Tuskys Beba Beba when two matatus which ply the Kasarani-Mwiki caused grave injuries on Cecilia Njeri Gicheha after they crushed her while clamoring for passengers along Moi Avenue. Nairobi News reports one of them reversed and hit her before another crushed her as she screamed for help.

cecilia_cover.jpg

Efforts to rush her to hospital hit a snag as the police insisted on arresting and towing away the matatus before rushing her to hospital, she was finally taken to hospital but succumbed to her injuries at 10Pm on Friday

Cecilia was heading home from school to announce that she was graduating from Utalii College and had landed a job at the Boma hotel.

May she rest in peace.

No Bad Blood. Wilbroda’s Baby Daddy Heaps Praises On Her As She Turns a Year Older

For some people, the baby-mama, baby-daddy relationship is not always a pretty one.

This is because some of them are characterized by spiteful, heckling partners or irrationality due to buried feelings or resentment. Decisions about the baby usually erupt into unnecessary arguments that escalate to a full blown ugly war.

But not all baby-mama-baby-daddy relationships results into pettiness, other people are able to remain civil or in the case of Wilbroda, friendship.

Wilbroda’s former flame Francis Ngira, a cameraman at Supersport and the father to Xolani Amin Okello had this to say about his baby mama:

Planet earth hasn’t had enough of your charm yet; so live us per God’s plan and not man. Keep cracking our ribs, radiating kindness and blessing our souls. Too much love from our son, #AMINandDAD. Happy “bashday” Maxola! #Happybirthday #TheStrictComedian #PanAfricanist #Acheerfulgiver #TheBestMother #Mygoodfriend

Award Winning Jane Mukami Reveals She’s Single And Then Gives Potential Suitors Tips on How To Treat Her

She actually looks hotter in person than she does on social media. At least last Saturday I met her so I can confirm she’s an eye candy.

Jane Mukami won the most interactive Facebook group in the recently concluded OLX SOMA award that was held at Kasarani Indoor arena.

The fitness trainer caused a lot of heads in the packed arena to turn as she meticulously strolled to the stage to pick her award.

Let’s not veer off the topic, Mukaki told Ghafla! she wasn’t seeing anyone. This is because her relationship ended early this year. She was dating a dude in the US; she didn’t give details though.

“I was dating someone in the US before I moved back and I hoped it could last the distance but it didn’t so it’s back to the drawing board.”

So what’s her advice to potential suitors? Please don’t take her to a bar. She wants you to put a little effort and take her to somewhere decent. Are you up to task?

Watch the full interview Ghafla! had with Mukami below;

Now where do I begin, this lady most of you know her as #Wilbroda has changed my life and career in so many ways, when I joined #PapaShirandula I was really scared and felt intimidated because everyone one there had been in the industry for quite sometime and for me it was just one of my tv debuts, anyhu she made me feel really comfortable we became really good friends, and our friendship has really helped me in bringing out the character #Awinja, she has a big heart and above all A good mum! Another Male Socialite Pops To Challenge Shaniqwa’s Dominance

Sassy KTN socialite, Shaniqwa, has enjoyed monopoly in the industry for a long time now. But a new socialite in town is about to change this.

Shaniqwa, the motormouth socialite has been the main attraction ever since she came on screen on Jameni Show.

The KTN socialite is now facing some serious competition from an upcoming socialite by the name Eric Omondi.

By the way Eric started the male socialite thing even before Shaniqwa knew about applying makeup. Eric was the big thing then but the rise of Shaniqwa saw him play the second fiddle.

Eric has now vowed to take on Shaniqwa in the battle of Kenya’s top male socialite, Vera Sidika/ Huddah Monroe kind of battle.

Erico even has a new name, he calls himself Divalicious.

“Shaniqwa there is a new BITCH in town…Divalicious is my name.” Eric captioned his video.

Eric Omba Cries Foul Over The Statement Gloria Muliro Said On KTN

While Gloria has gotten over the man that cheated on her, Pastor Eric Omba is yet to come to terms with the fact that his wife left him and she isn’t looking back.

Some two weeks ago, ‘Sitolia’ hit maker had a date with KTN. The songstress told ‘Tukuza’ about what she had to put up with in the five years she was married to Eric Omba.

One of the issues that she mentioned was her ex hubby’s unpalatable craving for money. SDE focused on this to come up with a title that made Eric Omba curse them with a voice that was loud enough to awaken the devil himself.

“Singer Gloria Muliro- I moved on after divorcing money-loving husband”

The man of cloth took to the social media to rant about how end time was nearing simply because SED rephrased her ex wife statement.

“End time ,You will see more Drama and stories + Funny and Amazing pple like this .Anyway ,ya Kaisary mrudishie Kaisary na ya Mungu mpe Mungu”

DStv Introduces Two New Chanels

DStv is bringing a touch of magic to viewers’ television screens this month with the addition of exciting new channels and new highly-acclaimed international series from M-Net.

Following the addition of six channels (CBeebies, BBC Lifestyle, BBC Brit, TCM, MTV, and Maisha Magic Bongo) to lower-tier packages earlier this month, DStv is delighted to announce that from 26th of October 2015, Premium, Compact Plus, Compact and Family subscribers will have even more reason to enjoy their television viewing experience with the launch of VUZU and M-Net Family. What’s more, television connoisseurs who have a taste for the bold, risqué series on Premium’s M-Net Edge can look forward to even more top-notch, boundary-pushing shows that have tongues wagging worldwide.

“We are very pleased that M-Net Family and VUZU will now be available to audiences across sub-Saharan Africa. These channels are designed to, respectively, offer fun family-focused and youth-focused entertainment with a mix of programming genres,” says the CEO of M-Net Sub-Saharan Africa, Yolisa Phahle. “The two channels, alongside the grittier, adult-focused M-Net Edge, allows us to cater for different but equally important M-Net audiences.”

Premium, Compact Plus and Compact subscribers will be introduced to a brand new channel, VUZU (channel 116), which joins its premium sister channel, VUZU AMP (channel 114) on the DStv platform from October 26. VUZU is an edgy entertainment channel for urban African youth and the young at heart. It features a mix of international hit series and shows across a wide variety of genres.

Meet The Rastaman That Has Captured Sanaipei Tande’s Heart

I don’t know what it is with Rasta men, but women love a dreadlocked man.

Especially one with clean dreadlocks, that’s the kind that girls keel over for. And Sanaipei Tande is not immune to the charms of a dreadlocked fellow as she confesses in her new jam ‘Rasta Man’.

She says how a certain Rasta Man makes her weak with his ‘maji ya kunde’ skin, stunning body and equally stunning smile. Her friends warn her against the Rasta Man as the ones from Dagoretti are tricky, the ones from Kahawa will lie to you but she insists that her Rasta Man is faithful and she would not mind marrying him.

Another Mugo Wa Wairimu-Like Character Caught On Camera ‘Harassing’ A Female Patient (Video+Photos)

It seems Mugo Wa Wazimus are on the loose. Two more quacks were caught on camera ‘bullying’ a female patient.

Mugo Wa Wairimu sparked national outcry the moment a video that showed the fake doc raping a female patient leaked.

Two more quacks were caught on camera FRUSTRATING (not raping) a patient. The two were using their stethoscopes to listen to internal sounds in rather unusual places like the thigh and booty.

kannt2.jpg

kann_mbl.jpg

Can you identify the two? Well, the two quacks are Rapdamu and Frasha. It seems Mugo Wa Wairimu inspired them to drop a song about what he did.

The song is dubbed ‘Kuthibu’ and it’s all about the two rappers frustrating this sizzling hot patient who turned out to be their boss.

It also hosted Chocolate City producer Trev sometime in August as he worked with the team. It also aims to break from the treand of just having one in house producer but seeks to collaborate with leading producers in the country and from elsewhere.

The studio is housed at Village Plaza in Ngara and aims to do not just production but also marketing and artiste management. Here is a glimpse of the said studio;

Cyprian Nyakundi & Stephen Jennings Flippantly Defy High Court Order In Bidco Suit

There are some cases that make you wonder whether the rule of law applies to everyone in Kenya, or is there a separate rule of law for the common mwananchi and for the fortunate few?

nyakudni_vs_bidco.jpg

Barely three weeks after Vimal Shah obtained a court order blocking Cyprian Nyakundi and Stephen Jennings from posting anything bad about him on social media, they have opted to flout the rule of law with reckless abandon. In a defiant move, Stephen Jennings ordered a protest in the streets of London, to disrupt an inspirational talk that Vimal was about to deliver. The canned protests were was promptly posted to YouTube and Twitter with the help of Nyakundi and his twitter army, contrary to the court order:

See Nyakundi proceed to tweet out said video:

nyakunditweets

We as Kenyans are usually focused on impunity within government, but we need reminding that the culture of impunity starts with the citizens themselves, and it is especially saddening when we allow foreigners to flout our laws however they want and get away with it. We shall see how the courts react to this revelation.

Nyakundi in particular, loves to talk big talk about bad government, but it seems to be simply a case of highlighting the speck in his brother’s eye, while ignoring the log in his own eye. Defiance of a High Court order paints such a bad image for social media in Kenya. Nyakundi continues to post tweets defaming Vimal, even as of the time of writing this article. It is people like Nyakundi who make others worry that social media is a beast that has lost control and needs to be tamed. As much as there is press freedom, the rule of law and court orders must be observed above all else. Little does this young man realise that he is just a pawn in a larger game. You would think he would have quit after being busted extorting 50million bob from Bidco, but he continues on the losing side of this lawless crusade

2 Babies Later, Pinky Ghelani Show Off Her Incredible Curves And Washboard Abs On The Runway. Stunning!

Two months ago, J. Lo stepped out in a sexy-sheer cut out dress for her 46th birthday, leaving jaws dropping uncontrollably in her wake.

Because she looked incredibly hot at 46 with a body that many 20 year olds can only dream of. Closer home, former model and former radio presenter at Capital F.M Pinky Ghelani, also caused a stir when she strutted her stuff at the Divalicious Fashion event recently,

She wowed many when she swished, swayed and sashayed in a sexy, cutout dress displaying her hard work at the gym in form of washboard abs.

But she did not stop there and looked like the peacock in this red and gold number that hugged her body.

GHAFLA EXPLORES: The SOMA Awards Were Full Of Hot But Freezing Women And Egoistic Men Who Gave The Longest Speeches Ever …..In Summary, Here’s What Went Down

I attended the SOMA Awards held at the Safaricom Indoor Arena on Saturday Night. I was a nominee but I didn’t win. Sad right? Not really. Who cares? Even Rick Ross is a great rich rapper and he has never won sh****t. haha. But that’s just me being a bitter loser. I really wish I had won but there’s always next time.

The SOMA Awards a magnificently louche affair. Because it’s not televised the A-list crowd can all get wrecked, behave very badly and abuse each other in speeches. Chipukeezy for instance decided to distribute his shade to Muthama, Uhuru and Waiguru. Personally there are people I can’t joke about. I love my balls too much.

Unlike the torrent of nauseating, back-slapping award shows where famous humans queue up to pay unctuous tribute to themselves,, SOMA Awards is the one occasion where real people are saluted for outstanding achievements in social media.

Before the ceremony began, I met Jemo Ule Msee a funny, feisty, confident and highly intelligent comedian who has grown to be one of Kenya’s YouTube stars. He was glad to reveal all his future plans and I couldn’t help but laud the guy for his ambition. To him, it’s only a matter of time before he starts getting suffocated with groupies.

A few minutes later, I immersed myself in the red carpet photoshoot session where I almost got blinded by the camera lights. The frenzy was too much so I stepped out and bumped into Xtiandela. The last time we met was at the Social Media Africa awards in Lagos. Despite the fact that we are cool, he couldn’t help but smirk after seeing my fellow Ghafla colleagues. That’s understandable because we’ve published so many bad stories about him. Our company has spent plenty of blogspace branding him a cowardly weasel and berating him ever since he conspired to defraud Bidco.. Our barbaric thirst for scandal and mayhem knows no limits. Unfortunately, that’s just how things have to be done.

Next was a girl called Njeri, a feminist accountant in one of the media houses and hater of my work. I chips fungad her once last year and never called her again. That’s where the whole beef came from. My mistake was extending my hand to greet her. She lost control of both her brain cells and world famous breasts, which constantly threatened to burst out during her chaotic five minute conversation with me. I’ve never had a girl insult me so much in such a short span of time. Luckily, she has a really low voice so no one else heard her obscenities. Even I couldn’t hear what she was saying sometimes.

It wasn’t long before the ceremony started. The rule was to keep all speeches short, something the first guy on the stage promptly ignored. His name was Mr, Nzioka and he kicked off with a rambling anecdote about his government job. He left after realizing how disinterested the audience was in whatever he was saying.

Unfortunately, Ababu Namwamba didn’t get the ‘short speech’ memo either. He unleashed such a complicated Luther-ish speech you could think the elections were happening the next day.

Babu Owino stole the show. I had already left the arena to chill outside and hit on some girl when he was presented with his ‘Most Social Student Leader award but I heard thatas a show of might, he took his time on the stage. You can never really gag a politician. He exited the building with his entourage and sped off with in his three car convoy while I was outside listening to Jalango’s stories.I must say the guy knows how to show off.

All in all it was a great event. I just wish the organizers would give winners money or presents in future, Honestly, man cannot live on trophy alone.

MSD HEALTH & MEDICAL AWARD, presented by Hein Garbers, Managing Director, English and Portuguese Africa, MSD

Winner: Enock Sikolia & Charles Kariuki, NTV, Kenya

Title: ‘Osteoporosis in Turkana – Wild West Series’

Judge’s Citation: “This is a story of how Osteoporosis is ravaging a community in the Turkana region of Kenya. The writer’s source is the water in the area. They invested time in research but won the confidence of the community to enable them to reveal what is happening to them. The interviews conducted in a remote and not easily accessible region brought out first-hand the extent of the problem. The camera work leans an indelible work in the mind of the viewer. Above all it illustrated some of the challenges the more remote areas of Africa still have to contend with.”

GE ENERGY & INFRASTRUCTURE AWARD, presented by Jay Ireland, President and CEO of GE Africa

Winner: Paul Kelemba, Freelance for The Standard on Saturday, Kenya

Title: ‘Sorting Out Nairobi Transport’

Judge’s Citation: “This was new ground for the judging panel. It is the first time we have awarded a piece of graphic journalism. Infrastructure is an important topic but it is very a difficult story to make interesting and Paul Kelemba has succeeded. He used a full-page graphic in the Saturday edition of the Standard to paint a scenario of how Nairobi’s epic transport problems could be solved. Maddo, as Kelembe is known, included trams, subways, buses and pedestrianised areas to illustrate the various transport options facing one of Africa’s leading cities. The graphic is deeply humorous as he pokes gentle fun at his fellow Nairobians and the people who run the city. A popular winner, we hope that by showcasing graphic journalism, more young artists will turn their attention to using their craft for this exciting new form of journalism.”

PRESS FREEDOM AWARD, presented by Ferial Haffajee, Chair of the judging panelWinner: Zacharie Flash Ndiomo, Cameroon

Judge’s Citation: “Imprisoned in terrible conditions, without visitors or access to medicine, even though he was seriously ill. His ‘crime’?  Investigating and reporting on the origin of the colossal fortune of the then General Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, for his bi-monthly newspaper Le Zénith. Zacharie Ndiomo is not the only journalist to be harassed in Cameroon. The rights of the press are continually violated. The police interrogations, arbitrary arrests and financial pressures are increasing. The judging panel award the 2015 Press Freedom Award to Zacharie Ndiomo, as the symbol of the resistance of the Cameroonian journalists in the face of all those who try to silence them.”

CULTURE AWARD, presented by Stephen Isaboke, Regional Director, East Africa, MIH

Winner: Adewale Olugbenga Emosu, tribuneonlineng.com, Nigeria

Title: ‘Bahia: Even in Brazil, African heritage lives on’

Judge’s Citation: “The story is about how African culture has been transplanted to South America via slavery. This story showed that over the years, African culture has not only been preserved but thrived – almost more than its origins. The reporter actually went to Brazil for a Sports Fiesta – the World Cup, but then went out of his way to look and discover this story. He did comprehensive work to bring the story to life.”

AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK ENVIRONMENT AWARD, presented by Joel Kibazo, Director of Communications and External Affairs at the African Development Bank Group

Winner: Thomas Naadi Bitlegma, Viasat1, Ghana

Title: ‘The Toxic Trade’

Judge’s Citation: “The Toxic Trade story drives home a point to African TV audiences. Thomas Bitlegma skilfully narrates the menace of electronic waste in Ghana like many African countries, while at the same time impacting their health negatively. It is a timely coverage of a real time problem. His story is compelling as it demonstrates the danger for kids, adults and social health in Ghana. He merits this award for he was simple but deep in presenting the problem.”

FRANCOPHONE GENERAL NEWS AWARD – ELECTRONIC MEDIA, presented by Greg Beitchman, VP Content Sales & Partnerships, CNN International

Winner: Ibrahima Diallo, Radiodiffusion Télévision Sénégalaise (RTS), Senegal

Title: ‘L’action antimines en Casamance: un pas vers la relance des activités…’

Judge’s Citation: “Antimine Action is a brillant piece on the rebirth of a village after it was cleared of mines. The village has been surrounded by mines for 15 years, and all the activities were stopped. With the antimine action, children can go to back to school and play, the farmers can harvest the anacard, and the buyers of cachou can enter the village…. Ibrahim Diallo really does a great job in allowing us to share the feeling of revival of the inhabitants of the village. Sharp pictures, smart editing, a very good TV achievement. Most of all, a great story about relief and hope.”

ECOBANK ECONOMICS & BUSINESS AWARD, presented by Richard Uku, Group Head, Corporate Communications, Ecobank

Winner: Femi Asu, Punch Newspaper, Nigeria

Title: ‘Small businesses in death throes as power supply worsens’

Judge’s Citation: “This is a story about how the lack of stable electricity supply harms small businesses in Nigeria. Femi Asu focused on an issue not particular to Nigeria but to many African countries. With detailed examples, the author demonstrates how businesses are severely affected including in some cases closing down with huge consequences on the country’s economic development. The piece is well written with the reader taken on a journey that highlights the issue with affected individuals and businesses. Excellent research.”

MOHAMED AMIN PHOTOGRAPHIC AWARD, presented by Alexandria Madjallah, presenter & producer for AFRICA24 MEDIA

Winner: Herman Verwey, Beeld, South Africa

Title: ‘The Oscar Pistorius murder trial’

Judge’s Citation: “Is it a photo, or is it video …? When you look at Herman Wervey’ work, for a second, you can wonder… The characters are so full of life, these pictures really give you a sense of their feelings. Herman’s body of work gives also a proper idea of the high pressure that surrounded this trial, so important for the South African society… Being able to capture so precisely the inner feelings of the actors of this story is really the sign of the talent and the mastery of a great photographer.”

PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE GENERAL NEWS AWARD – Print, presented by Arlindo Lopes, Acting GM, MultiChoice Angola

Winner: Carla Gonçalves, A Nação, Cape Verde

Title: ‘Memorial Amílcar Cabral vandalizado e tomado pelo lixo’

Judge’s Citation: “This particular story shows the power of journalism and society.  One of them is the positive power not just announcing what is wrong but the positive power in a society, which is educational, also training people for good values in society. Powerful stories like this should be told and governments should be made to be aware of their responsibilities towards the heroes of their countries. The story was told in a very powerful but simple way, which meant everyone else could understand the story. People in top positions in government, ordinary people were told the story in a way they understood it very well.”

PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE GENERAL NEWS AWARD – Electronic Media, presented by Arlindo Lopes, Acting GM, MultiChoice Angola

Winner: Pedro Paxi Pereira Ndoma, TV Zimbo, Angola

Title: ‘Erupçao Vulcanica na Ilha do Fogo’

Judge’s Citation: “This outstanding piece of reporting by a crew of Angola’s privately owned TV Zimbo highlights the destruction to property and displacement of at least 1500 people caused by the volcanic eruption in the Island of Fogo, Cape Verde in 2014. The story was chosen in its category not only because of its environmental impact and bearing on climatic changes, but also the powerful images captured by the TV Zimbo crew. The footage captures the voices of some of those affected by this natural disaster, the second to happen on the island since 1995, causing damages estimated at close to 50 million Euros.”

NEWS IMPACT AWARD, presented by Chris Diaz, Chief Marketing Officer, Kenya Airways

Winner: Ibanga Isine, Premium Times Newspaper, Nigeria

Title: ‘INVESTIGATION: Massacre in Gboko’

Judge’s Citation: “Great journalism has an impact. This series by Premium Times and written by Ibanga Wilson Isine has great impact. A man is shot for straying too close to the perimeter fence of a cement factory in Benue State. He is hurt but not killed.  His community is angry and protests at the gates.  Trigger happy soldiers who protect strategic installations open fire. Seven people are killed. Non-existent. That word best describes the commitment of local police to investigate the killings.   In the gap, Premium Times steps in and ensures the killings are not in vain. The injured are compensated.  So are the families of the people who died. Ibanga stayed with the story in a series of excellently constructed digital articles.”

SPORT REPORTING AWARD, presented by David McKenzie, International correspondent, CNN

Winner: Arukaino Umukoro, Punch Newspaper, Nigeria

Title: ‘Monuments of waste: Nigeria’s white elephant stadiums’

Judge’s Citation: “In this outstanding story by Arukaino Umukoro, from the Punch newspaper in Lagos, Nigeria, the reader is taken on a nationwide journey that illustrates the lack of maintenance in sports infrastructures built at a high cost, a phenomenon that tends to be common in many African countries. The article is both well written and documented with telling pictures of the sorry state in which many sports facilities in Nigeria find themselves. It highlights the fact that, because of the unsuitability of many sports arenas in Nigeria due to neglect, athletes, for instance, are forced to resort to private facilities or travel abroad to prepare for international competitions. The author shows the Surulere National Stadium in Lagos as the worst example of neglected sports facilities. Built in 1972, the stadium has hosted several national, continental and international competitions.”

DOW TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION REPORTING AWARD, presented by Ross McLean, President Dow Sub-Saharan Africa

Winner: Sarah Wild, Mail & Guardian, South Africa

Title: ‘Robot to test health of ocean ‘lungs’’

Judge’s Citation: “Sarah Wild delivered an original report on a major innovation in research over global warming, conducted by a South African scientific team. As we get closer to the Paris conference on Climate, it’s an excellent reminder that there are African-led research programs at the forefront of the climate change issue. Sarah Wild transports the reader into the heart of the project, with the team deploying this new generation of sea-cruising robots. We can share the excitement of the scientists thanks to Sarah’excellent writing. It demonstrates that science stories can be as exciting as politics, sports or features when guided by a maestro.”

CORD’s Blogger Dikembe Disembe Welcomes The Alleged Government #36 Bloggers As KOT Reacts To The News

Over the weekend news came in that the government had hired 36 online bloggers to advance its agenda online and curb the onslaught it had been having both from pro Opposition bloggers and non-affiliated bloggers.

The alleged move which comes at a time when the government has been on the receiving end of several trending campaigns has attracted harsh criticism. However, not all are angry at this step, seeing it only as a long overdue recognition of the power of social media platform by the political class. The pro cord blogger Dikembe Disembe welcomed the moved albeit sarcastically noting that;

“As early as 2013, Itumbi was working on a way the government would recognize bloggers and hackers in its digital operations.

That this has materialised is such a positive step. What the government does with its bloggers is a different story.People always think it is easy to blog. To market a particular point of view.

In CORD, I have often heard how certain well-placed factotums dismiss the few volunteer bloggers doing their little bit to keep its narrative alive. I hope the revelation that the government has employed both self-taught geeks and real graduates in IT, Journalism, Political Science, Law, Marketing and other other disciplines to be in charge of its online ‘image’ will be a wake up call.

President Uhuru doesn’t deserve many things but one thing even those of us who jeer his policies daily are grateful of is his digitizing presidential politics.

I only hope this new team will ‘up’ Jubilee issues online from the pettiness suspected rapists like Mugo plunged them into. I urge them to peddle whatever it is they will peddle, but do so in such a way that they leave our intelligence in one piece, not shattered into pieces with silliness, insults and endless name calling!
Welcome on board compatriots. We are one!”

Not all have been as understanding or accommodating especially in light that the said bloggers would be paid tax money. The reaction ranges from disgust to name shaming suspected bloggers and the hilarious. Here are some;

K24’s Purity Mwambia Risks Her Life to Expose The Most Violent Blood-Thirsty Gang in the Country (VIDEO)

Ever watched something so horrific that you hoped was not going on in our country? Well the latest exposé by K24 called ‘Bweta La Uhalifu’ will leave you alarmed that such atrocious acts go down in broad daylight.

K24’s Purity Mwambia bravely goes to Kisumu to investigate Kisumu’s most notorious street gang that is undoubtedly one of the most violently dangerous gangs in the country.

The gang knows no fear and has no respect for human life, terrorizing Kisumu residents in the most callous manner making that part of the county one of the most violent places in the country.

The preview of the segment expected to air tonight, shows a man getting repeatedly hacked to death, while another one is plummeted with logs while another person rides a motorbike repeatedly on top of him.

This all happens in broad daylight under the very glare of the cameras. This is not for the faint hearted:

Most celebrities choose to have grand, majestic weddings with all the fanfare, A-listers, sleek limousines and the whole shebang that comes with a celebrity wedding.

Others however like to keep their nuptials on the down low such as Nazizi, Size 8, Chantelle and J Blessing. Now Brown Mauzo, a musician known for his good looks got married under the veil of secrecy last Friday to his equally gorgeous bride.

Is Avril the Sexiest Celebrity in Africa? This is the Outfit she Wore that Has Been Driving Team Mafisi in a Frenzy for the Last Two Days #CokeStudioAfrica

And it’s finally upon us, the biggest extravaganza to ever hit our TV screens having premiered last night on Citizen TV.

Surely it didn’t disappoint, never does anyway and the highlight of the night was surely Avril’s performance alongside MI Abaga from Nigeria. In case you’re wondering what the entire hullabaloo is all about, I’m referring to the Premier of Coke Studio Africa Season 3.

History was truly rewritten if you ask me and of course Team Mafisi, they seemed to be having a field day online. Why the huge fuss you ask? Well, Avril seemed to have taken over a new title, the sexiest female celebrity in Africa.

Her well articulated curves seem to have driven the audience into frenzy and just when you thought that was all, she jiggles and wiggles them much to the awe of the crowd. Add her equally exceptional voice and it’s a wrap.

I couldn’t handle it, MI also and so did Team Mafisi…I mean just check this out:

This Is How Babu Owino’s ‘14 Million’ Birthday Party Went Down (Photos)

We waited for it from the very first day he broke the news; the 14 million birthday party that would make weddings look like a bad joke.

Last Saturday two important events were happening; OLX SOMA award gala at Safaricom Indoor arena and Babu Owino’s birthday bash. Remember it??

See Also: Controversial SONU President Babu Owino Shocks Many With A Ksh 14 Million Birthday Party Budget

So the birthday party happened but not with the same magnitude we all expected. It seems the SONU chairman was only out to cause publicity coup.

Babu didn’t fly in controversial South African opposition figure, Julius Malema nor did he spend the 14 million he was talking about.

The ninja spent his birthday at Thomas Bernados Children’s Home along Lang’ata Road where it’s reported he contributed 300k towards the home. That was during the day.

That Saturday night, Babu and his entourage made their way to Safaricom Indoor arena to attend SOMA award gala. He scooped a prize by the way.

Ghafla! Exclusive: Popular Gospel Singer Impregnates 22 Year Old Angel Nyambura Then Threatens to Beat Her Up Amid Other Forms of Harm if She Doesn’t Abort (Evidence)

Lot has been said about his philandering ways. But there has never been concrete evidence to pin down this popular skirt-chaser, till now.

Gospel singer, Ringtone Apoko, is facing some serious accusation from a 22-year-old Angel Nyambura. Apparently the ‘Muziki Ni Dawa’ hit maker forgot to use a condom and now he’s facing the repercussion of unrestrained sexual gratification.

So Angel turned to Ghafla! for help when her efforts to make Ringtone own up to his blunder hit the wall. The lady is facing an uncertain future with a new life growing in her womb now that the man alleged to be responsible for her pregnancy has blatantly disowned her.

Angel provided us screenshots of her conversation with Ringtone to prove she is no stranger to the flourishing gospel singer.

Their chat (Ringtone and Angel’s) dates back to the time when the two were at the height of their romantic escapade.

She also gave us two audio clips. Ringtone is heard threatening and refuting any involvement with the lass’ pregnancy.

Ringtone: Unanikatia simu… Unakata Simu sio?

Angel: Imejikata

Ringtone: Am I supposed to be afraid because venye umeniandikia sijui ati you don’t want my name to be ruined. Am I supposed to be scared?

Angel: Ok ok am not getting…

Ringtone: if am supposed to be scared I want to be very scared

Angel: Ok I know you aren’t scared

Ringtone: And number two, another thing… Wewe unafikiri wewe ndo msichana wa kwanza ameniambia kitu kama hio?

Ringtone kept on arguing with Angel and when the young lady told him she won’t abort, the singer sarcastically thanked her and hanged up the phone.

The screenshots Angel took CONFIRMED the dude he was chatting with was indeed Ringtone Apoko, his number is visible and it’s also the same phone number he uses.

Ghafla! contacted Ringtone and he denied knowing any lady by the name Angel Nyambura. We told him we had evidence and he hanged the phone on us.

Go to the next page to see photos of Angel, the screenshots she sent us and the complete telephone conversation she had with Ringtone;

Ghafla Employee Holds a Birthday Party in a Popular Club in Westlands and Apart From the Beautiful Lasses in Attendance, this is What Else Went Down #Smartika

Apart from SOMA awards that went down on Saturday night, another major event happened over the weekend. A popular Ghafla employee celebrated his birthday.

It was held at a popular club in Westlands where he took over the whole club and popped bottles that would prove Davido and his entourage to be entirely mediocre. Ooh and people did show, lots of lasses with all shapes and sizes and guys who have spent half of their lives trying to be famous.

This was surely their chance to be recognized and get a chance to be featured in one of the biggest blogs in the country.

The highlight of the party came when the guest of honour arrived together with his hot girlfriend who was dressed in a red skater dress which properly articulated her well laid out curves and perfect flawless skin. Add her marching black Christian Louboutins and she was looking exceptionally gorgeous; everyone kept staring.

I observed the couple for most of the night and I couldn’t help but be amazed by the chemistry between the two, how they kept on touching and giggling…basically just enjoying each others company. It was quite a spectacle to behold so when the alcohol kicked in a little bit, I went and asked them how in the world they had managed to have something so beautiful, because trust me, there were very many groupies in waiting.

Well, apparently understanding each other was the number one priority in their lives and secondly creating time to try out new things together also went along way. Ghafla’s superstar also added that buying each other gifts also went along way citing a brand new car he had gotten for his birthday.

That’s when the girlfriend whispered in my ear that she hadn’t actually bought the car but gotten it through the Smartika na Airtel campaign. I just chuckled and promised her that her secret was safe and sound with me. Poor lad!

So there you have it, you want to keep your man ladies…you have to put in work and buy gifts when need be. I suggest you start by texting and calling your friends as much as you can while browsing the internet like your life depended on it.

It starts with you sitting tight and waiting for a daily SMS which Airtel will send you, with your 5X target for the day. Once that is settled, make sure you Call, SMS and access data from your Airtel line so as to reach and ‘Fikisha’ your 5X target for the day

Once you FIKISHA your 5X target, you will get a Confirmation SMS on target achievement, as well as a complimentary 500% airtime bonus to use across all networks. You can use the 500% airtime bonus to browse, SMS and make calls across all networks.

You will then be automatically entered into the daily draw for a chance to win a Toyota Axio, as well as other daily cash and airtime prizes.

Sauti Sol’s Manager Marek Fuchs Opens up On The Millions Sauti Sol Make In A Month and His Favorite Member of The Band

Sauti Sol are Kenya’s most successful music group if their fame and achievements are anything to go by. Well, while it was pretty obvious they are making quite considerable sums from their music, you could not have guessed it was this much.

Their manager, the newly wed Marek Fuchs revealed the sums they make from shows alone giving a glimpse of just how moneyed the groups is. Speaking to Jackson Biko in his popular interview segment on Business Daily, Marek Fuchs revealed that the group charges between 1.5 million to 2.0 million per show with the standard being 1.5 million.

The band then gets to have an average of ten shows in a month meaning they rake in a minimum of fifteen million a month or figures topping 20 million. In a busy month like December, the groups has about 20 shows meaning they rake in about 40 million, in just that one month! Even deducting expenses and making allowances for other costs, the individual members of the group still take home more than a million each and that is only from shows. This is a far cry from the 150k they used to get a month prior to Marek Fuchs arrival, at least that’s what he says.

In the same interview, Marek went on to reveal his admiration for Chimano whom he labelled as ‘the defining rock star’ of the group. He describes him as an open minded non-judgmental soul who ‘does absolutely nothing….he just gets on stage and everybody recognizes him and he does his thing’.

Nameless Causes A stir After Uploading This Photo Of Himself Without His Dreadlocks.

Nameless is officially shorn- or so is seems.

On a sensational post that he shared on social media earlier today, Nameless seems to have finally let go of his trademark dreadlocks that he has been sporting throughout his successful career that have spanned for over a decade now.

We shall all agree on something, Nameless looks hideous without the hat. He is like the Kenyan Neyo without the hat.

Check out the photo below:

TRIBAL TROUBLES: And Now,This Is The Problem With LUHYA Girls…Please Don’t Kill Me!

The Luo,Kikuyu and Kisii girl has already been analyzed by now. And even though they all are awesome women, with great attributes and immense beauty, kind souls and brilliant brains, still they have inherent weaknesses and repellent stuff about them.

Moving on swiftly, let’s get into the realm of the almighty (no pun intended) Luhya girl. This is the girl from Busia, Kakamega,Bungoma…A region that had never failed to make news, either National or Showbiz. The same region that produced the brilliant Kijana Wamwala and the docile Musalia Mudavadi…Oh,and the human deity,Father Wanyonyi.

And while the Luhya girl is fabled to be an awesome cook, diligent homemaker and excellent wife, she does have, like all her compatriots, shades of weaknesses here and there.

Shall we point them out? Oh,why not! Be my guest.

THIS IS THE PROBLEM WITH LUHYA GIRLS

Body physique
I just had to start with this one. I just had to. This is more than an over-told Comedy stage stereotypical joke. The Luhya girl does posses a body that,if she’s not careful, can very easily cross over into the masculine realm. And while she has quite a great butt,Ok,not so great but still adorable African ass, trouble with her is that, the rest of her body is almost always shaped like a man’s. She has super muscular tendons. And her biceps too threaten to spill out of her blouse. In very many instances, this girl’s body is shaped and carved like a man’s. And it’s NOT a beautiful sight at all. No wonder they say Serena Williams,Drake’s rumored girlfriend,is Luhya. It’s all because of that body. And bro, It’s NOT a good body at all. All the muscles and biceps and staunch leg calfs is a powerful turn-off.

wpid-1406624290.jpg

Food Hogs
Once again, from the many comedy shows we have on local TV,you must have come across this particular attribute about the Luhyas made into a joke over and over again. And yet,it’s true. It’s actually a thing that happens. The Luhya girl can eat herself into misery. Her appetite, like that of her male counterparts,is always on high adrenaline. She’ll sweep clean acres of food placed before her. And in most cases, she won’t even take her time as she devours the meal. All she needs is the least time possible, and she’s made mincemeat of whatever thing you placed on her plate. She’s an eater, this one. And she isn’t about to stop.

Not Beauty Oriented
This is a little connected with the first point I talked about. While other girls from other tribes take a little too much time in trying to beautify themselves, never mind the excessive and reckless use of make-up,the Luhya girl doesn’t seem too interested in looking beautiful. Or even feeling it. She will take very little time grooming herself either for herself or even for her man. She won’t take a million trips to the washrooms to powder her nose when you take her clubbing. And she may not even invest in some nice cologne for those luck less armpits. However, with the advent of Vera Sidika,a proud and very westernized Luhya, this seems not to be the case anymore.

Too Strong Cultural Beliefs
The Luhya girl comes from a proud tradition of firm family values, deep cultural practices and staunch parents and relatives all of whom are strong believers in complex cultures and even malevolent ancestors. And because she was born and brought up in this sort of deeply – spiritual and reverent set-up,she’s also caught up in the system. She will insist on observing absurd traditions and heeding to the call of some really weird practices… In accordance with her community. That may pull her back. And also a progressive man keen on keeping her sans the cultural baggage.

Poor Dressers
In keeping up with almost everything I’ve said so far,the Luhya girl is not exactly the best dresser in town. While her girls are stepping out all decked out and looking like flowers, with nice little black dresses,6-inch stilettos and sparkling jewelry, the Luhya girl steps out looking her drabbest. All she does,in most cases,is throw around some boring gray blouse over herself,a silly scarf, old church choir skirt and some nursery school teacher pumps and hit the road. She doesn’t invest much in her clothes. Or jewelry. It’s just a messy getup. And a bland, thoughtless one.

100628m7_campbell_485x500.jpg

Hair….
This one is connected to the point above. A Luhya girl’s hair is a joke. And not even a funny one. Her natural hair itself is not any good to start with. And her efforts to glitz up her head gets worse with the sort of weather-beaten weaves she plants on her head. The weaves,in most cases, are not the sort of glossy, flowing Brazilian types (I understand she came to afford it) but some shambolic old messy mish-mash of some tired eyesore she bought at around Ksh. 300 around the corner. The weave is almost always poorly placed on her head and once she has it,she might stay with it for as long as 5 months… When it’s finally a huge, dirty mess of pain and ugliness. But somehow,in a futile attempt to keep it sheeny, she’ll occasionally douse it in pools of Vaseline and other oils making it even worse and comical.

That’s all we could gather for now.

I am wearing a helmet though…Your stones won’t hurt. Hehehe…

TOMORROW: THE PROBLEM WITH SOMALI GIRLS.

Chipukeezy Publicly Shames Dennis Itumbi Over His Pathetic Kissing Skills At Safaricom Indoor Arena. Hahaha

Saturday night Safaricom Indoor Arena was the place to be. While the night was dedicated to honor various persons who excelled in social media, some speakers took to the podium to roast others.

OLX SOMA awards finally happened on Saturday night at Safaricom Indoor Arena. Things were moving at a snail’s pace at the beginning but as time passed, the event became lively and even more exciting.

Just like any other award gala, there were guests who were invited on the podium to award winners, and comedians to entertain the audience.

Well, of all humorists who took to the stage to crack jokes, it was Chipukeezy who made a lasting impression with his jest.

The comedian politely ‘attacked’ the Director of Digital Communication in the Office of the President, Dennis Itumbi, who was seated on the front row of VIP section.

Team Ghafla! was seated on the terrace and we could loudly hear the Churchill Show comedian camouflaging his gibe with humor to tear into Itumbi.

Nicely dressed Chipu (he was donning a black suit)took to the stage and started off by reminding the audience about the hashtags that took Kenya by storm; #Mollis, #SomeoneTellCNN then finally he mentioned #ItumbiKiss

You all know who President Uhuru’s frontman in digital platform passionately kissed last February to attract nationwide attention, don’t you??

Imagine 8 months down the line Chipukeezy decides to remind Itumbi of his infamous romantic escapade with Citizen TV political affairs reporter at a public function.

The comedian said Itumbi shouldn’t dare take photos when he is exchanging saliva with whomever because he looked awful when kissing.

Of course the audience laughed out loudly but I am not sure whether Itumbi’s boisterous laughter was genuine.

After 7 Years, Julie Gichuru Quits Sunday Live…Ann Kiguta Pips Janet Mbugua For The Prestigious Gig

Julie Gichuru will no longer be gracing your screens hosting Citizen TV’s Sunday Live. Not any more in her shoes steps in the equally vivacious Ann Kiguta.

After seven years at the helm of what was a groundbreaking and pioneering news show on the Kenyan TV scene, Julie Gichuru has called time on the project she nurtured. The news filtered in yesterday through both presenter’s social media accounts.

Julie Gichuru took to her account to wish the incoming host the best of wishes urging her and vouching for her ability to take Sunday Live to the next level.

Ann Kiguta, the successor to one of the largest and most watched news segment in East Africa could also not help but express adoration to Julie Gichuru

“Celebrating the amazing @JulieGichuru tonight for an incredible 7 years hosting East Africa’s biggest news magazine #SundayLive on @Citizentvkenya. You’ve set a great example and I’m honored to build on teh incredible foundation you laid. Keep flying high Julie can’t wait for the big reveal on your project!! God speed. Love and blessings.xx”

Back in 2013, Julie Gichuru caused anxiety amongst her viewers when it appeared she was quitting the show only for it to emerge that she was just taking a break. Back then Janet Mbugua stood in for her when it appeared that she was taking over her slot. Now, it appears, that she has missed out on this as the Opinion Court host, Ann Kiguta takes Julie Gichuru’s place. Whether she is leaving RMS for good is not yet certain since she still has several shows produced by her company, Arimus Media still airing notably Africa Leadership Dialogues.

Fresh From Dominating The AFRIMMA Awards, Diamond Platinumz Now Eyes MTV’s EMA

It has been ages since an artist outside South Africa and the West African Countries could go toe to toe with the leading musical lights from the aforementioned countries. At the 2015 AFRIMMA ceremony in Texas, Diamond Platinumz did that and more, he dominated them.

His work ethic and musical prowess has never been in doubt and his standing in the East African region all but cast in stone. However, recent years have seen him bag numerous accolades and build this larger than life image that is beginning to dwarf all other artistes in the continent. At the just concluded AFRIMMA, he was among the handful of Eastern African artistes who were nominated in various categories.

His win in the best Male Artiste East Africa did not come as a surprise but it was his winning of the AFRIMMA Video of the Year and the highly coveted Best Artiste that cemented his place at one of the biggest music acts in the continent. In winning the two categories, he beat tight competition from the likes of Davido, Yemi Alade, Sarkodie, AKA and Fally Ipupa.

Never one to rest of his laurels, the artiste while grateful for the win has now set his eyes on the up coming MTV European Music Award set to take place in Milan on 25th October this year. He has been nominated for the Best African Act against the usual suspects, Davido, Yemi Alade, AKA and DJ Arafat. Best of luck to all of the nominees.

Teacher Wanjiku Gives Birth (Photo)

The long wait is finally over, Kenya’s finest female comedian, Teacher Wanjiku, is the newest celebrity mother in the city.

Things have literally sailed smoothly for Teacher Wanjiku. I mean she got married to her sweetheart, Victor Ber, in December last year, then in June 2015 she went public to announce she was expectant and finally in October she welcomes a bundle of joy.

Well, Teacher Wanjiku is now a mom to a little one whom she didn’t disclose whether he/she was a boy or girl.

The comedian also forgot to tell us what name she had given her baby; guess she was overwhelmed with joy to remember these.

Below is the photo of the new born baby;
