Beauty queens seem to be dominating this week! And it all started with Steve Harvey’s epic blunder in Las Vegas a few nights ago.

Kenya was represented in the just-concluded 65^th edition of the Miss World pageant in China by the all beautiful Charity Mwangi from Kiambu County.

The crown was won by Spanish beauty queen, Mireia Lalaguna. Kenya was nowhere near top 20 finalists but at least South Sudan’s Ajaa Monchol represented the region. (Their flag is a mimic of Kenya’s so anyone could have mistakenly thought the 254 was among top 20 finalists.)

Anyway, Charity Mwangi jetted back into the country and she was greeted to a warm reception at the JKIA by mostly folks from her county.

The Kenyan beauty queen had a message for the country; keep peace. She cautioned Kenyans to avoid chaos ahead of the 2017 poll.

It is disgusting that morning television shows would invite this chap to waste precious airtime justifying why he cannot pronounce the word ‘Grand Prix’ properly. A frightening message online got the attention of Kenyans on Facebook (KOF) and they responded in their numbers.

The plight of children leaving in Mama Fatuma Children’s home united KOF to start an initiative for a good cause.

Mama Fatuma Children’s home which was founded in 1966 has sought to care specifically for the less fortunate in society. The Home is endeared to creating a safe haven for Nairobi’s orphaned and vulnerable children.

Currently, Mama Fatuma Children’s Home has 65 needy children in residential care and 20 more in its outreach programme.

Weetabix last visited the home and contributed slightly above half a million Kenya Shillings which went into purchasing a washing machine. They were joined on the material day – 16^th July 2015 by other corporates as well; AAR Healthcare who provided free medical advice and deworming tablets, Urban Bites and Nakumatt who donated snacks to the home and their Agency Partners SCANAD Africa, Saracen Media &Mosound Events whose in kind and monetary contribution painted smiles across the kids’ faces.

During Weetabix’s follow up visit of the home on the 25^th of September 2015, Mr. Mohamed Hiribae, Manager at the Home, took them on a tour of the dorms and the team from Weetabix noticed that the kids were in dire need of a vital necessity; comfortable sleep.

They noticed that since some beds had very thin mattresses, some of the children have no option but to share beds. It is with this in mind that Weetabix promised the home to deliver 67 mattresses by the 23^rd of December 2015. This donation will also double up as the perfect holiday gift to the home.

An initiative was also started on Facebook to marshal willing Kenyans to donate whatever they had; money, unused clothes etc to children at Mama Fatuma Children’s Home. So far the response from KOF has been great.

But this beautiful couple from Nyeri has changed the narrative with their unusual love story.

31 year old Miriam Gakenia and her 2 year old bridegroom James Mwangi were involved in the accident last Tuesday, which left the bride bedridden and the groom with a cast on his broken hand. The two got involved in the accident at Kiangwachi along the Nyeri-Nairobi highway as they were travelling back from Nairobi where they had gone wedding shopping.

“The wedding had to go on. We have prepared for this for the last six months. No devil’s temptations will stop us. Even if she lost her legs, she is still my wife” Mwangi said as he prepared to wed Gakenia.

Mike Sonko has zero tolerance for injustice especially when it’s the rich oppressing the poor. The Nairobi Senator has for a number of times taken upon himself to make sure justice is served.

Last Friday, the Nairobi Senator led his brigade to invade a construction site and forcefully evicted its ‘illegal’ owner.

The court had issued a directive suspending construction works at the Loresho water reservoir which feeds Nairobi residents and its environs with clean water.

Police hadn’t carried out the directive so Mike Sonko, Loresho MCA Hon. Tim Wanyonyi and their supporters took it upon themselves to execute the court order.

Sonko says they successfully managed to evict the land grabber, the contractors and over 50 armed guards who were guarding the grabbed parcel of land.

“Accompanied by Hon. Tim Wanyonyi, Loresho MCA, section of Loresho residents led by their chairman Mr. Ndumbi, we managed to execute a court order that was issued by the High Court yesterday suspending construction works at the Loresho water reservoir which feeds Nairobi residents and its environs with clean water.

We also managed to evict the land grabber, the contractors and over 50 people who were illegally guarding and supervising the construction works on the grabbed public utility.” Sonko wrote in part.

Over the weekend, Kiss FM’s Adelle Onyango bore the brunt of City’s increased crime as she was robbed at gunpoint.

Adelle took to the social media to narrate her ordeal. She didn’t reveal where she was robbed at or what valuables she lost, just that she was happy to survive the robbery.

“God is GREAT! I can add robbery at gunpoint to the list of things I have survived. Material things stolen life still here. What a day!” Wrote Adelle.

The presenter also revealed she was saying the Lord’s prayer throughout the dreadful incident.

“Throughout the robbery I was chanting the Lord’s prayer LOUDLY. One thug even told me I was making noise. Man, I am alive. What a day!”
