Was Ringtone Really A Street Urchin As He Frequently Claims? This Photo Taken At Nyansiongo High School Begs To Differ

Ringtone Apoko has always told the inspiring story of him starting from the very bottom as a street kid before turning his life around and getting a music career which has not only brought in the money, but has also led to him dining with the V.I.Ps.

In past interviews, Ringtone has said that his mum dumped him at the doorstep of a bar in Nairobi’s Tom Mboya Street and left him at the mercy of the streets of Nairobi.

His uncle discovered him after he had been thrown away then sent him to live with his grandmother who later passed away, leaving him once again at the mercy of the world. He was forced to flee to the streets and fend for himself as his family had allegedly rejected him. So he couldn’t pursue his education.

But as a former classmate of his revealed, this whole rag to riches story is a lie. He has been pulling our leg all along with this elaborately spun tale. He shared a photo of Alex Apoko aka Ringtone while at Nyansiongo High School, Nyamira County .

Kneeling in the middle in the photo below is Ringtone back when he was undertaking his high school studies.

ringone.png

So this other story about him being thrown away by the mum in a box after birth and living in the streets is just a street story, the former classmate revealed.

Making us wonder why the modern day gospel musician would resort to spinning tales in order to appeal to the gullible Christians that always believe a sappy story.

So we called up Ringtone for his side of the story and he shouted at us before brusquely replying with “Andika Chenye Mnataka!”

We go Deep and Analyse What The Top Three TV Stations Have to Offer and to Start it Off, Here is the Best Morning TV Show

NTV, CITIZEN TV and KTN TV are the three biggest TV stations in the country currently. To some viewers, only one of these three count to hell with the rest. Others will loyally follow one but switch to the other say to watch The Trend, Cheche or one of Moha Ali’s exposes.

Given the penchant for competing corporations to copy a successful trend, the general view is that the station offer a more or less similar package and that there lacks a really a tangible difference to really set it apart.

There is quite some level of truth in the statements. From the morning shows, news delivery and coverage, programming and pretty much everything else, these three stations mirror each other. The poaching of staff does not help matters as you can wake up to find the whole Nation newsroom cast at Citizen.

However, even in their borrowing and copying the brains behind and the people executing it have the ability to totally differentiate the product from the rest. So today we start by a the one thing all stations have, a morning/ breakfast show.

KTN- Morning Express

 ktnme.PNG

The one different thing from all the rest is that currently, only one person handles the show. Michael Gitonga does what other stations need two or more to do and he doesn’t seem overwhelmed. He started as a co-host to Sophie and he has now made the show his own.

CTIZEN TV – Power Breakfast

powerbreakfast.jpg

It is quite a different thing from what Johnson Mwakazi left behind as Willis Raburu has taken over as the main act with Kirigo as the first co host and currently he is ably aided by Indimuli and Joey Muthengi.

NTV – AMLive

amlive.png

Kobi Kihara and Debarl Inea have been holding down their ‘fort’ for quite some time with the only change being the loss of Sheila Mwanyigah.

Now that you know who holds what, it is imperative to say, however match the director/producer wants or does not want it, the show always takes the personality of the host(s). The hosts for the morning shows across the station have proven these.

Power breakfast brims with energy and humor with the light, airy feel from the bubbly personality of Raburu. You get that Indimuli was brought on board to create a balance with some sternness but still, it is always the light-hearted chat and show Raburu has made it to be.

raburu3.PNG

On the other hand, Morning Express has taken after the seriousness of its host Michael Gitonga. The brother does stuff with the verve and gusto of and SDA elder. Energetic but no fluffs no jokes, serous business and the show I have to admit attracts and loses audience because of its structure. I would be damned to find any teenager tuned in or even any millennial due to the “serious” topics discussed.

mg2.PNG

NTV does get the balance in terms of the moods with the perfect blend of personalities of Kobi and Debarl. It is really great seeing Debarl becoming an equal co-host in terms of duties and time on air. At the start he was more of an extra. Just when you think you can’t have enough of Kobi’s giggles and warmness, in steps Debarl with a look like he is from the North, a Kenyan brother of James Snow and Stanley Baratheon. No smiles from this guy and I doubt in Kenya there is a sterner interviewer than Debarl.

debarl4.png

So what do they offer and which one takes the lead. Well, they all have discussions, newspaper reviews and entertainment segments. However, Power Breakfast serves the best entertainment mix from the artists they have the band and generally the whole way it is set up, watch Power Breakfast if you are looking to be entertained in the morning, want jokes and basically listen to a chat.

powerbrkfast.PNG

AM Live offers a more motivational social themed package, a bit minimalist in its approach and content. It has a motivation feel and truly holds it down with the human interest story. Morning Express has a truly wide range of coverage it may have toned down on the entertainment part but makes up with the range of the topics and discussions it has. Its wholesome approach from money to tech to politics and the different panelists over time is very rich.

mg.PNG

In terms of content served and the knowledge shared, the tackling of current issues, KTN does narrowly but deservedly take the lead. I know it is always good to know what surprise Raburu will bring up or just watch the interesting chemistry between Kobi and Debarl as they trade roles, but Morning Express does take the lead in value for time. Let me know your thoughts.

The Baba Effect! A Few Dump Raila Odinga And Succeed In Their Political Endeavors. These Are The 6 Top Cream Politicians Who Ditched Baba And Ended Up Loosing Their Grip in Politics (Photos)

Raila Odinga has been dubbed the enigma of Kenyan politics as his political moves are unfathomable to many. The few that are in his inner circle benefit politically but when you dare leave him, then you are doomed to fail.

The tale of ‘mganga hajigangi’ works perfectly on Raila Odinga; whoever gets his political blessings succeeds but he himself doesn’t seem to have the charm to achieve self actualization, which for him is the presidency.

Raila has had three shots on the country’s top seat which has only become a mirage for him having lost the golden opportunity in 2007 when the meatball was plucked from his mouth just when he was about to swallow it.

Raila’s mishaps aside, the Luo kingpin has a gift of ‘blessing’ and ‘cursing’ politicians. Not many have ditched him and succeeded in their political endeavors.

Below are some of the politicians who became irreverent in politics when they ditched Baba;

1. Musalia Mudavadi

mudag78.png

His association with Raila began when Baba joined Moi’s government which Mudavadi was part of. Raila ditched Moi and together with other opposing voices formed National Rainbow Coalition that toppled the independence party.

Mudavadi refused to join Raila and other rebels as Moi tricked him with a Vice President slot which he held for only three months making him the shortest serving VP in Kenya.

He subsequently lost his parliamentary seat in 2002 elections. Mudavadi joined Raila in 2007 and got a Deputy Prime Minister slot which he served for 5 years.

He turned down Raila’s offer to support him in 2017 elections and took a shot on the presidency which he lost becoming third.

Currently Mudavadi is irrelevant in politics as only Jubilee and Cord dominates the scene, Mudavadi’s Amani Coalition has lost clout.

2. Najib Balala

balal34rao.jpg

He stuck with Raila since 2002 in National Rainbow Coalition and even ditched his ministerial post alongside Raila when President Kibaki refused to honor a pre-election memorandum of understanding (MoU) which they had signed before 2002 general election.

He got back his ministerial post in 2008 in Raila-Kibaki coalition government serving as Tourism Minister till March 2012.

Balala ditched Raila in 2012 and formed his party, the Republican Congress Party of Kenya which was his vehicle of choice to vie for Mvita Parliamentary seat.

Balala lost his parliamentary seat to ODM’s Abdulswamad Shariff Nass. But Uhuru appointed Balala as a Cabinet Secretary in his government, a post that forfeits Balala from engaging in active politics.

3. James Orengo

orengo23raoop0.jpg

He refused to join Raila’s camp in running for 2002 general election and instead opted to vie for presidency.

Orengo lost both the presidency and his Ugenya parliamentary seat in 2002 general elections. He became irreverent until 2007.

Orengo learnt his lesson and in 2007 he ditched his party Social Democratic Party (SDP) to vie for Ugenya parliamentary seat on an ODM ticket and won convincingly.

4. Charity Ngilu

ngilu23roaa.jpg

She was in the same camp with Raila when Baba said ‘Kibaki Tosha’ in 2002. Ngilu supported Raila in 2007 general elections but changed her mind in 2013.

She lost her Kitui Central parliamentary seat in the aftermath of the general elections and sought redemption in Uhuru’s government where she was appointed Lands CS.

Uhuru sacked her last year after she was implicated in corrupt practices in her ministry. She has since being associated with Cord.

5. Raphael Tuju

tuju23raoo.jpeg

He was elected MP for Rarieda constituency from 2002 to 2007 on an LDP ticket. LDP was part of National Rainbow Coalition, the most popular political outfit at the time.

Tuju fell out with Raila and formed his political party Progressive People’s Party (PPP) prior to 2015 referendum to challenge Raila’s ‘No’ campaign.

But opposing Raila in Luo Nyanza is like trying to fly to the moon in a KDF chopper; Raphael Tuju’s political career DIED completely when he made Raila his enemy as he lost his Rarieda parliamentary seat in 2007 general election, and has never had a comeback again.

6. Moody Awori

mod1dytaoo.jpg

He stood with Raila in National Rainbow Coalition to dislodge KANU from power and benefited handsomely in the subsequent government where he was appointed a cabinet minister in 2003.

Moody became Vice President the same year following the death of then Vice President Michael Kijana Wamalwa.

He refused to decamp with Raila to form ODM when Kibaki defaulted on 2003 pre-election MoU, a move that ended his political career.

Moody retired from politics after he was humiliated by ODM’s Paul Otuoma who won the Funyula parliamentary election in 2007 by a landslide.

After A Night Of Carnal Pleasures, Governor’s Bodyguard Loses Gun And Money To A Prostitute

If alcohol and work are not bed-mates then when sex is added in the mix then it is quite a bombshell where the job will sure lose out.

A bodyguard for Turkana Governor Police Constable Benjamin Lorum found out this the hard way. After his day work, he spent the night in Nakuru Town with an unidentified lady after a round of drinks. In the morning at 11 am, he was found lying on the bed naked and unconscious and the lady nowhere to be seen.

Luos Run The World I Tell You. Luo Man And His Chinese Woman Residing Overseas Cause A Stir Online

They say brothers and sisters from Lake Victoria region don’t lose their heritage no matter which part of the world they are something which has been confirmed by a Luo man residing abroad.

A video of an unknown Luo man has been doing rounds on social media ever since it was first shared by Robert Alai.

The viral video shows a Luo dude teaching his Chinese woman how to sing ‘Bank Otuch’ while driving around town.

‘Bank Otuch’ is a dope hit by Vicmass Luodollar and Octopizzo. The Luo guy and his Chinese woman have become a sensation as the video has widely been shared on social media.

Watch the video below:

CMB PREZZO : How The Promising Kenyan Rapper Went From A Revolutionary King Of Bling To A Derelict,Dramatic And Dangerous Drug Addict

He blew up circa 2004 and did things no one had done before, said things no one had said before, dropped videos no one had dropped before and came with a swag no one had seen before.

He rose in the speed of light- with a swashbuckling style that quickly made him something of a legend ; filthy rich, stylish, flashy, tenacious, flamboyant, controversial and wild.

He snapped up Nazizi and flew her down to Dar Es Salaam from where he would push her into crafting over five different choruses (hooks) for his signature hit Let’s Get Down.

A notorious control freak,Prezzo insisted on nothing but the best…The best recording studios, best video directors, best collaborators, best posse, best songs, best girls and the very best media coverage.

Meticulously,he micromanaged his whole image and presented to the World the first, truly legitimate Kenyan music superstar.

And everything,as they say, almost became history before he bungled up such a spectacular entrance into the hallway of fame.

Everything the man did was BIG – He talked big, walked big, dressed big, flaunted big, dropped big videos, lived big, made big entrances and became almost unassailable.

His net worth quickly eclipsed his music and fans and foes alike were noW more focused on how much the man was worth and not his latest release.

And just like he had planned out,the public played into his hands as he quickly took them on a winding tour of his endless wealth, means and financial might.

Most of it was definitely exaggerated but the man did things his way. And we let him be him.

People were enthralled by his flashiness, his sheeny jewelry, his attire, his fashion sense, his cars and his dramatic arrivals at events.

With hits like Naleta Action,Nawapenda Wo and P-R-E-Z-Z-O,the man became an instant pop legend. He charmed us all… And won us all.

He even dated girls we all wished to meet. And,just to spite us and show us who was the boss,he even crisscrossed town with the hottest woman in town back then – Sheila Mwanyigha – even blinding us with tales of their upcoming marriage.

He became a total showstopper ; a spectacle,a thriller.

Girls swore by his name. Men wished to be him.

prezzo7.jpg

Prezzo, back in the Naleta Action era

And then, just like 50 Cent,a man he curiously shares a name with (Jackson) he ignited puerile beefs with the the whole rap world just for the goddam sake of it – but mostly, just to make his presence even more felt and just to dethrone whoever was King before his knighthood.

Bamboo took notice of the new kid’s notoriety and responded.

A classic Jay and Nas-esque beef was immediately born- With all the ingredients of a rap rivalry – diss tracks, name calling, trash talking, threats, random fights and radio attacks.

He even went for the King of Dancehall too. But sadly, the Dancehall King was either too busy to engage or too scared to hit back preferring to run to the safe hands of his then girlfriend and sponsor Rose Wahito who ended up caught up in the vicious Prezzo Vs Redsan showdown.

He quickly became a permanent fixture in the Kenyan entertainment scene almost becoming the threshold by which everything Kenyan pop would be measured.

Fame stuck to him like glue. He quit the industry for a minute only to re-emerge,reinvented,as a Reality Show cast member wannabe.

Prezzo’s walk into the Big Brother Africa house in South Africa was met with much derision and disdain by many Kenyans both offline and online .

He was taunted and mocked and trashed. We believed he wouldn’t last a minute in the house. We knew he wouldn’t last a minute in the house.

But lo and behold, the man not only stayed in the house till the very last day,he became the first runner-up in one of the most dramatic,memorable,emotional,spine-tingling,entertaining,thrilling and closely-fought BBA contests in the history of the show.

He became an instant African supernova with adoring fans from as far as Nigeria,Benin,Ghana, Senegal,Ivory Coast and Namibia.

Again,Prezzo, through sheer antics and a larger than life personality, shook the World.

But that seemed to be the end of the man.

After his show-stopping BBA performance,Prezzo’s star started to dim. Eventually,it lost all it’s light and flickers.

The man was declared dead.

He fell into a canyon of drug-abuse,drunkenness,moral decadence and sexual depravity.

He slept with pretty much every licentious girl in town, courted and bedded all the socialites – emerging and established – From Huddah to Vanessa Chettle to Noti Flow to Soila Cole.

His world became a rotten cave of endless drunken sprees, unhinged abuse of drugs and erratic public behavior.

He even lost weight and lost his mojo… The man became a laughing stock who would pitifully appear as a groupie in Camp Mulla music videos, scrawny and bleak-eyed.

The shiny bling was gone, the grills were gone, the macho was gone, the swankiness was gone.

The man became a ghostly figure,a relic of his former glorious self,a wretch after whom ratty women from Tanzania, with bleached skins and no jobs, were fighting over.

prezzo-KTN.jpg

Prezzo on the infamous KTN interview with Betty Kyalo

He didn’t rap no more. Didn’t drop no more new material. Didn’t appear in shows no more and didn’t drop them sparkling videos no more.

He morphed into a hazy,street clown,always drunk,always high,always belligerent.

All he did now was make impromptu appearances at VIP parties, drink himself silly, cause commotion, flash out his gun and cause a massive ruckus.

And even when he showed up on TV for a simple sit-down,he ended up displaying severe mental issues that prompted his mother to offer a public apology for his drunken belligerence and for his unsolicited for sexual advances at married TV hosts.

And then the hallucinations began …..

‘I once dated Beyonce ‘‘Jay Z is jealous of me ‘ Floyd Mayweather is my personal friend ‘,‘ Justin Bieber was my classmate ‘

The point at which we all confirmed ; the King Of Bling has officially gone mad.

He tried ignited some beef with Jaguar,an extremely successful and high-flying pop star, and it just didn’t work.

It just couldn’t work.

The allure was gone. The charm was gone. The aura was gone. The status was gone.

It became an endless descent into despair and despondency since then.

Now,the man stars in a shoddy late-night TV show filled with loud, unschooled bimbos and skinny empty heads.

And is now dating a ghetto tramp.

And as we speak, the brother is in police custody arrested over the weekend for attempting to carjack a pilot. Drunk,as usual.

Truly,things do fall apart.

Adios,King of Bling.

Huddah Monroe and Vera Sidika Have Been Lying All Along About Being Flat Tummy Tea Ambassadors. Ghafla Exclusively Speaks To the Brand and They Deny Any Association with the Feuding Socialites

Over the weekend, Huddah Monroe and Vera Sidika were involved in a skirmish over who is the flat tummy tea brand ambassador.

Huddah claimed that Vera had copied her by claiming she is the brand ambassador while Vera said that she had been working with the brand since 2015.

On Snapchat Vera claimed that flat tummy tea had paid her to do the promos in 2015 but decided to fully endorse her because of the traffic she pulled.

qvb.JPG

“There is a number of girls who have been given free tea so they market it .That’s why they won’t show fund alerts, its been 24 hours and counting. Just accept and move on, getting free tea in exchange for posts. Yet they have never seen and tried. And now that I’ve talked the truth .We wait for them to Photoshop shid up.” Part of Vera’s snaps read.

As it turns out, these two socialites have been taking us for a ride. One of their representatives revealed that the Flat Tummy Tea company do not have any brand ambassadors and the claims made by the two ladies were untrue, misleading and damaging to their brand.

Alfred Mutua Takes His Queen To Holiday In An Indian Ocean Paradise Destination (Photos)

Alfred Mutua and his wife are arguably Kenya’s hottest political couple.

They are young and capture the aspirations of many. What’s more is that their public romancing make them quite a much talked about couple with none overshadowing or hindering the growth of the other.

A good example of their romantic tid bits is the recent holiday they took over the weekend to celebrate Lillian Ng’ang’a’s birthday. This is despite Lillian’s birthday having been a couple of weeks earlier.

However, since the governor was busy it was pushed ahead and the couple chose the exotic Islands of Maldives. Here are the photos of the couple in their holiday.

Kexit! Another Celebrity Moves From Kenya…Alex Konstantaras And Lizz Njagah Relocate To Greece (Photo)

It appears the more foreign based artistes come back home the more others go abroad.

Having tried to chase their dream abroad, a number of artistes made their way back to the country a couple of years back from STL, Bamboo and others. It seemed to be an affirmation that grass is not always greener of the other side. However, recent months have seen a number of local acts again making the move to go abroad.

The likes of Sarah Hassan and Idah Alisha started and then Abbas followed. Now just a couple of days after Akothee announced she was moving on to stay with her husband in Europe, the most famous couple in Kenya’s acting scene has also announced plans to move abroad. Lizz and Alex Konstantaras are relocating to Greece.

The two said the move is for a more personal reason and it may not be permanent. According to Alex the move is aimed at getting their son closer to his grandparents given that he is the only grandson they have and they were quite attached to him. Lizz Njagah also clarified that they will still be coming back in the country for their projects so it is not a permanent move.

Here is photos of the family during their farewell party

Leaving home is always hard.. but this time it’s different. I’m not just leaving home.. I’m also going home. Thanks family for that (to quote Alexandros) sweet send off.. #KEXIT

The KQ pilot explained he wasn’t a taxi driver and Prezzo couldn’t have none of his explanations; he allegedly slapped the pilot after threatening him. It took the intervention of Nyayo Estate guards who responded quickly and had Prezzo arrested.

Prezzo was taken to the nearby Embakasi police station but he was not held for long as he was released on a police cash bail of Kes 20,000.

From Getting The Cookie Jar On The First Date And The Dreaded Friend Zone, 5 Things Movies Teach About Love And Romance

There is a lot of fantasy in movies. In fact of late in movies you get the feeling they do not project what happens in the society but rather the producer’s fantasy. It is the same in all genres including love romance where you find fairy tales of happily ever after.

This however does not mean the movies have not shown us what to expect in dating, love and relationship. Here are five things you will see in movies that are actually pretty true in real life;

You can get the cookie jar on the first date

sexfirstdate.jpg

Now every lady will swear to them and their mirror that they just cannot pop the jar open on the first date not until the ideal duration from a month to several is over. Well, they sure do not give it to everyone but along comes a guy, full luck and self belief and Kaput! A lass somewhere is left wondering what hit her. You can be that guy, and ladies when it happens, don’t worry you just helped overcome a stereotype.

Nice guys do get to the friend zone

niceguysfriendzoned2.jpg

If you want a lady just go straight and say it and avoid any slinging through back door or overly kindness. Just don’t let the tag brother or best friend be dropped unless you want to stay there. Trust me, and watch a couple of movies, your acts of mindfulness and constant checking and doing services for her will only have you appreciated as a masculine girlfriend, counselor, fixer etc.and all with the privilege of a bat and hug.

niceguyfriendzoned1.jpg

Few guys approach the hottest girl

 hotgals.jpg

One Kenyan proverb says dating a beautiful lady is like having a maize or banana farm next to the road, everyone gets to help himself. To hell with that low self esteem escapism. Just like in the movies most men are in awe of the hot girl only the true alpha males take the effort be one just make sure you have a plan before asking her out.

Do not ever give up until you are truly rejected

chasedontgiveup.jpg

Life and movies are in agreement over this; unless you are told in not unclear terms that your advances are not welcome and will not be tolerated in the near future, plough on brother. You all know how it ends with the lady giving in the same way that lady you chased for so long finally acted like you have just popped from outer space. Make this your motto

There will always be that irritating male/female friend

gfmalefriend.jpg

We all have friends before you meet your man or woman. They get to know all the secrets about her and you some which you are not privy to. He/ She will call even late night, will be invited to romantic dates and will share almost equal prominence as you. They are the shoulder your partner runs to just like in the movies so what to do, either get rid of them, befriend them or learn to live with moments like this

Alcohol is the only proven tool to escape the friendzone

alcohol5.jpg

When all else fails in your attempts to get from the friend zone, go to chemical warfare. If a man or lady has resisted all overtures then seek to impair his judgment. Alcohol does not just mess up motor skill but also clouds the emotion and this is your best ace card, some sort of Joker.

Not all movies may have all these lessons but at least two are found in any you watch. So it is not just all fantasies and fairies, some stuff is true.

bomet1rutotatat.jpg

Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto bought three fire fighting trucks at a cost of Kes 7 million each. The improvised Tata trucks were heavily criticized by Kenya as their look alone had the tell tale signs they could have a difficult time extinguishing fire.

This fear became evident when Kenyans saw one of the Bomet fire fighting truck struggle to put off fire with a pipe which had a nozzle of a car washing machine during a recent fire outbreak.

Nairobi governor Dr. Evans Kidero went to all depths to please visiting American President Barack Obama when he visited Kenya in July 2015.

Kidero struggled to plant grass along Uhuru Highway and even put kanjos on watch to nab those who dared step on the stubborn grass that had refused to germinate.

Obama came and went when Kidero’s grass had still not turned green. But eventually the much desired green color came.

The king of showmanship and theatrics arrived at Lee Funeral Home in full bravado making mourners ditch their sorrow for a minute to lend him their attention.

Sonko had gone to the funeral home where the mother of former Kamukunji MP Simon Mbugua was being transported from the mortuary for burial.

His bodyguards brandished deadly assaults riffles and for a moment many thought the senator was at some killing zone in Iraq.

What followed after Sonko spectacle was the disarming of bodyguards attached to him as police couldn’t tolerate the cheap public stunt which according to them was sheer misuse of firearms.

6 Sectors Where Kenya Is A Global Leader

Without further ado:

1. Mobile Money

With 25% of the nation’s GDP flowing through MPESA, other countries have to look in envy as we move first into a truly cashless and cardless society. As for who invented this thing, that is now a story for the gods in my view.

https://www.imbank.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/mpesa-logo.jpg

2. Track and field

Our record in long distance races needs no mention. And with recent guys like Julius Yego on javelin, and David Rudisha creeping into short distance, this dominance is only expanding

http://hashtagsquare.co.ke/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/yego-julius.jpg

3. Coffee

Some people when you take them to Java they say you are trying to be western, but they should know that Kenya is actually the coffee capital of the world! Of all contemporary coffee origins, Kenya is doubtless the most universally admired and this thriving export supports 6 million Kenyans

http://www.weeffect.org/files/2012/06/Kenya_ruraldevelopment_Anne_490.jpg

4. Flowers

Kenya is one of the world’s biggest exporters of cut flowers, accounting for around one in three flowers sold in the European Union. So next Valentines Kenyan men now have no excuse! 😀

5. Rugby

Kenya has always been in the thick of things in Sevens rugby, but our recent tournament win in Singapore signaled a coming of age of the national team to elite global status.

Back From The Wilderness! Five Best Musical Comebacks In Recent Times

More than any other time in the showbiz, going stale from people’s memories as fast as you happened is a reality that musicians have to deal with.

Like journalist are as good as their last story so do musicians have to keep churning hit after hit for relevancy. However, there is burn out, unmitigated circumstances and many other factors that see an artiste fade from public memory. It is here that the hard part starts, the making of a comeback and trying to get the spotlight back amid new artistes, new sounds and that pretty thankless task of being a ‘pioneer’.

Regardless of all these, some artistes have actually made a comeback and a pretty successful one two. Here are five artistes who have proved the journey down does not have to be permanent and they way up, however hard does is not impossible.

5. Bobby Mapesa

bobbym.jpg

Bobby Mapesa he of lewd lyrics from Naskia Utam to Mtoto Mzuri Remix was really gone and was rumored to have struggled with drugs and alcohol addiction. It actually looked like a career that never lived its full potential and then just when we had al written him off he came back, and a storied come back it has been. First the beef with Nonini and P-unit firing his salvo in the Tuzidi song he did with Calvo Mistari. However, it was his decision to do a gospel album starting with the single Nisamehe that had tongues talking and everyone accepting that indeed Bobby Mapesa is back. Here is the video

4. P-unit

gabufrasha.jpg

The group that took the club music scene with such a euphoria sweeping all and winning everyone’s heart decided to part ways sometime back. Just like that even their previous tunes hitherto evergreen seemed to fade like a scent with the passing breeze. Frasha was the most active of the three featuring in a number of songs as he also did one or two of his own. It seems they have realized they had their magic working together and now have seem to have teamed back at least the two of them, Gabu and Frasha and their first hit W.A.B.E has been warmly received a reminiscent of what they used to do as a group. They are back as a group.

3. Ringtone

ringtone2.jpg

While he was doing music which is before his self imposed retirement Ringtone was known more for his scandals than even his music. Then he declared retirement and some whispered good riddance. From nowhere he came back with no fuss or side shows, but with arguably his best song yet. Teaming up with the golden voice of Shusho was a bright idea and while she lifts up the song you cannot ignore the effort Ringtone put in his writing and singing. More like this and we will gladly forget the previous ringtone and set this one as the default.

2. Nyanshinsky

nyashinski.jpg

While Collo is the more known and even more hardworking of the Kleptomaniax trio, it is Nyashinsky that has long regarded as one of the best rappers in 254 and gotten the most love. He first gave Kenyans taste of what to expect in his collaboration with Nameless in Letigo but then tore the existing form book with his release of Now You Know. As he says in the song he had not rapped for almost ten years and he came back cool and refreshing as a bottle of Coke. The song created such a buzz was played on every station and DJ Mix, you will struggle for a louder comeback.

1.Alikiba

alikiba.jpg

For a moment it seemed like the whole Bongo industry was one artiste and then supporting acts. All the pioneers from TID to Mr. Nice, Ferouz and even Prof. Jay were either off the grid or had their status diminished. The others like Marlow, 2berry, MB Dogg and Ali Kiba seemed sated by the little success they  had garnered.

For so long and as if from nowhere, Diamond Platinumz lorded over the scene with no worthy rival, until Ali Kiba had a renaissance of sorts. After about three years in the cold, he emerged King Kiba and provided Diamond detractors with someone they felt could hold a brighter candle against Diamond’s. Sure he may not make more money or have a wife that helps create a larger than life picture for an artist, but he is at least musically in all metrics equal to Diamond. Some think he is better. Mwana, Chekecha and the hits that followed it has been a whirlwind, a tour de force lending credence to his claim that he is the King of Bongo.

5 Heartwarming Photos Of Kenyan Police Serving and Protecting Our Citizens

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when someone comes across police in a Kenyan setting?

.

“Oh Lord, do I have bribe money?”

http://www.waza.co.ke/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/uhurusadsnip.jpg

“I better change my route so that they don’t disturb me!”

http://nehandaradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/7-e1423121359600.jpg

OK, they have caught me, lemme call a mkubwa I know

http://www.focus.rw/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/kaguta.jpg

😀 But that is just one side of the story. Over the weekend, Facebook user Amos Korir shared some photos to remind us that many police are still dedicated to doing the selfless job of serving and protecting the vulnerable masses. For all the cynics like myself, hopefully these images will give you a change of heart:

1. Policemen in the village helping someone retrieve an item lost in a river

2. Police helping rescue a miner who was stuck underground

3. Police helping kids with water for washing on a rainy, muddy day

4. Police helping an elderly woman go about her business

5. Police making a public declaration of honesty

11 Photos That Prove There Is a Lot More About Turkana Region Than You Have Been Made To Believe

I have recently been on a mission to travel across Kenya because I would feel a lot of shame when tourists would know more about Kenya than I did.

Sometimes local people are guilty of not seeing their own land. It happens. But in the last few months, I have been rectifying that on my part. In the last one year, I have been to most major destinations in Kenya, apart from one: Northern Kenya. You can probably guess why I hadn’t been there. Stories abound of how Northern Kenya is a godforsaken land, full of warring tribes, depressing poverty and hunger. I held off for some months, but finally this biting cold July in Nairobi convinced me that it would be the perfect time for me to finally take the plunge and escape to the desert in Northern Kenya and just see for myself what the place looks like. I was pleasantly surprised and you will be too. Walk with me as I show you what I discovered there:

1. One of the unique things is that Northern Kenya has a sandy surface, like a beach, but with savannah vegetation like acacia etc

2. Yes there are manyattas spread out randomly across the landscape

3. The lovely sunset as I concluded my first day there

4. Here is the entrance to where I was staying. Eliye Springs Resort

5. Yes people, Northern Kenya has sandy beaches with palm trees and everything. It’s like a 2nd coast!

6. And what’s that peeking out in the background?

7. Lake. freaking. Turkana. Gaze at it’s marvellous beauty. Seems like an ocean from here

8. And the accommodation were these cute manyattas as well. A taste of the tribal experience of the area

9. What’s cool is these manyattas provide employment for the local women around Lake Turkana. Here they are building one

10. A close up of the beach. Look closely in the distance you can see the other side of the lake

11. And some customary selfies to prove I was really there 🙂

I’m on a boat! 😀

20160622 124545

20160622 124221

And with that was the end of my brief journey to Lake Turkana

20160622 125132

So there you have it. Lake Turkana up close and candid. Far from the wasteland portrayed even by our local media. As people were freezing in the July weather of Nairobi, I was busy basking in the shining sun over there. There are only about 4 days of rain in some areas of Northern Kenya, so it’s the perfect place to go sun chasing within Kenya if the weather turns cold wherever you are. Fine there are some skirmishes every now and then, however, the hoteliers who welcomed me assured me that they are only isolated to the bundus. If you travel there and stick to your path to the hotel, you should be fine. Also, going there brings money into the local economy, which is what is going to help the residents of that place escape from the poverty that grips them currently. So give Turkana a chance one of these days. Who knows? It could be the next big desert destination for fun and frolic!

5 Stories You Probably Didn’t Know About How Colonialists Used To Party Hard In Kenya

Free land and free slave labour! That was the mouth watering financial promise that encouraged white settlers to sail across the Indian Ocean in search of fertile lands in this country we now call Kenya.

Of course given this combination, as well as the fact that Kenya has pretty good weather all year round, there was plenty of time left over for the colonialists to enjoy themselves. This community fond of wanton debauchery came to be known as the Happy Valley Set, and these are their stories:

1. Hugh Cholmondeley aka Delamare

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/71/e3/07/71e307227259845644fcc0cd30bfe786.jpg

It is said that Hugh loved killing lions for fun. As you may be thinking, he finally met his match in 1894, when he was mauled by an attacking lion. As a result, he limped for the rest of his life

2. Josslyn Hay, aka Lord Erroll

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1e/Josslyn_Hay_Telegraph.jpg

Josslyn abandoned his career as a British diplomat and eloped with Idina Sackville, a married woman to Kenya. Their home became a gathering point for many colonial parties, and was notorious for its orgies.
Lord Erroll was horsewhipped in public at Nairobi Railway Station after being caught with someone elses wife, Molly Ramsay-Hill, whom he married a few years later. Molly later died from an overdose of alcohol, morphine and heroin.
Lord Erroll was later shot dead by the husband of a woman he was eyeing

3. Lady Idina Sackville

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/f/f3/Idina_Sackville.jpg/220px-Idina_Sackville.jpg

She moved to Kenya after eloping with Lord Erroll. She was famous for hosting crazy parties which included wife swapping and drug abuse. She would welcome her party guests naked in a bathtub made of green onyx stones

4. Countess Alice de Janze

http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/multimedia/dynamic/00019/STH0220KENYASLIDE_56_19457o.jpg

She and her husband Frederic were invited to Kenya by a colonial family for lion hunting(quite the popular hobby back in the day apparently). She had an affair with Lord Erroll and later with Raymond de Trafford. Alice later abandoned her husband for Raymond. She then shot Raymond and shot herself at a railway station after he said that he couldn’t marry her. Fortunately or unfortunately, they both survived the gunshots. Alice was tried in court but got away with a four dollar fine. She and Raymond then finally married, but divorced soon after. Alice later returned to Kenya where she committed suicide by shooting herself in 1941

5. Kiki Preston

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_dHMUkWjxiWM/TDzo3de2fMI/AAAAAAAAGmw/cB-01mxxElY/s640/Kay_Francis_34.jpg

Kiki and her second husband Jeromy first moved to Kenya in 1926 after being gifted land along Lake Naivasha by a friend. Kiki was known for big game hunting and drug abuse, especially coke and heroin. She was nicknamed “the girl with the silver syringe” since she used to always carry her syringe in her bag and inject drugs in public without regard for those who might be looking. She had an affair with Prince George of the British Royal Family, whom she introduced to drugs and is alleged to have borne a child with. After her son was killed in World War 2, she committed suicide, jumping out of a New York apartment

And that is only half the story. More Happy Valley stories to come later

Saumu Mbuvu’s Aspring Politician Boyfriend Demonstrates His Financial Might With Six Figure Monetary Reward He Gave Her As a Graduation Present (Photos)

Saumi Mbuvi recently graduated from JKUAT and her boyfriend has since spoilt her with a six figure monetary reward!

Saumu Mbuvi is dating a man whose financial might can’t match her father’s flamboyance from a far distance.

It was love at the first sight for Saumu and Benson Gatu when they met at a moot court Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) for the first time in 2013.

Their love has since grown stronger as marriage is the next major step the two lovebirds will be taking to seal their love. In an interview with SDE, Saumu and Benson revealed how much they love each other.

Benson who is a lawyer-cum-businessman, revealed he has political ambitions with eyes set for a political seat in his rural home in Mathioya or Juja.

Saumu’s boyfriend also told SDE that they (Saumu and he) were currently focusing on establishing their careers before they could start planning for their wedding.

His arrest comes just in a short time after another grandson of the Late Njenga Karume, Kennedy Karume was arrested and accused of throwing his wife over the balcony of their house.

FACEBOOK COMICS : Here Are The Names- And Faces – Of Some Of The Funniest Kenyans On Facebook (Photos)

Kenyan Facebook has come a long way. And has stood the test of time, time and again, rivaling Twitter and Instagram as the more preferred medium of social media connection only rivaled by WhatsApp which even your grandmother and your whole extended clan in Vihiga uses.

Facebook bigwigs come and go. And then come again and then go again. Case in point, yours truly. And Facebook can also be a very tricky game of numbers and treachery, with many IT-savvy Kenyans amassing a huge number of ‘followers’ on the site most of whom are dead followers – or bots – created through a skillful, dishonest manipulation of the Internet codes for one’s personal satiation.

Some Facebook bigwigs have rose to the top through virtually bullying other users and through hacking of other’s users Facebook pages and converting them into their own,a very disgusting and deplorable method employed by some thick, brainless twats I won’t bother mentioning here.

But most of them are sincere big shots who command a huge following owing to the manner of content they tirelessly upload for their religious audience.

Sex and jokes are the spine of the Internet. And the good old Internet cannot do without a daily dose of either of the two. Or both.

Some comics have made it on TV and found fortunes for their hilarity and skill. Some comics, however, have remained on the Internet – to feed us daily with their special selection of genius comedy drawn from everyday occurrences and experiences of a regular Kenyan.

And they’ve become a big hit across Facebook.

By uploading their jokes primarily in Sheng, and assuming a persona of an everyday Kenyan with a meagre salary and no luck with the ladies, these hilarious Kenyans have found a huge audience on Facebook – and are amassing tens of thousands of loyal followers through their brilliant, street humor.

Let’s sample some of these Facebook celebrities who are keeping a nation laughing from Nairobi to Marakwet.

Steve Muriuki

Steve is a young college-going dude in his early twenties who has roughly 20,000 followers on Facebook.

Steve’s popularity started some two years ago and today,he commands one of the biggest Facebook audiences with his witty jokes most of which are delivered in Sheng and meant for the 18-26 age demographic.

Steve’s jokes are mostly funny one-liners and punchlines drawn from everyday Kenyan life and told from the perspective of a lay Kenyan man struggling between measly finances, lack of women (and of sex),poor housing and a general cheap life.

Everyday,Steve feeds his audience with his brilliant one-liners that will most definitely knock you off your chair or make you laugh out super loud in a hushed serious office meeting.

Speaking to Ghafla,Steve says that he creates most of his jokes while most are also sent over to him and he does little modifications on them. Some of his posts are also copied from other Facebook users and shared to a wider Facebook audience.

Steve also has indulged deeply into the meme world and he regularly shares his memes – most of which have an inherently Kenyan theme – with his legions of fans.

”Facebook has benefited me financially. I have been paid severally to post stories and ads for people… But sometimes,I might do publicity for someone and then they renege on their promise to pay me… ” Steve says.

Steve, who is also a student at JKUAT,also works part time as a Shisha trader at Club 1824,one of the city’s hippiest party locations along Lang’ata Road.

On the issue of his Facebook popularity netting him girls,Steve laughs off and says that he’s been fortunate to land a girl or two. But doesn’t divulge further.

He’s the official 1824 Shisha guy. And also one of Facebook’s most famous comics.

You can follow this beautiful clown by clicking on his profile HERE.

Kelvin Gikonyo
Gikonyo and Muriuki are buddies. Not just on Facebook… But also beyond Facebook. And that pretty much explains why he’s in the same trade as his boy.

Gikonyo, just like Steve Muriuki, is a young man in his early twenties who also has found huge success on Facebook due to his unique hilarious ramblings that he regularly posts on Facebook.

Boasting a Facebook following that is in the excess of tens of thousands,Gikonyo is no pushover.

He,just Like Steve, trades a special kind of comedy that is easily relatable with everyday folks – construction workers, manual laborers, students, matatu touts, the jobless, loveless blokes.

A single Gikonyo joke on Facebook can garner an upwards of 1,000 LIKES. And hundreds of comments most of which are laughter emojis or just girls trying to catch the young man’s attention.

Gikonyo has some side hustles too, besides being a student and also making a tidy sum through using his Facebook account to publicize client’s stuff.

Funny to the bone,a day in the timeline of Kelvin Gikonyo is a day well spent.

Methu Muthee

muthee.jpg
Muthee is yet another one. Witty, crazy, wild, dangerously hilarious and super stupid.

Muthee won’t miss an opportunity to turn every little event into a laugh fest.

From Arsenal to the Jubilee Government to Museveni to Githurai 45,Muthee always finds a way to twist the smallest of instances into a huge ball of hilarity.

Preferring to deliver his jokes mainly in Sheng,Muthee boasts over 4,000 Facebook followers most of whom strictly follow him just for that one dose of laughter per day.

Muthee seems to have a slight issue with his Bae. Or his crush. Or his Ex. Or the single dudes he prefers to call the Vaseline Battalion.

And just like his peers,Muthee’s jokes will make you burst out loud at a funeral. Or a serious family gathering with your in laws.

Follow him at your own risk.

Ole Weru

ole.jpg
He sits pretty after amassing a staggering 25,000+ followers on Facebook. And not for no reason at all. He can be quite the funny man, quite the storyteller and quite the witty comical, lyricist.

Ole Weru differs a little from the others – He doesn’t throw around one-liners, doesn’t copy and paste random Sheng musings and definitely doesn’t rely on your everyday experiences to derive a joke.

He’s more of a through storyteller who prefers to deliver his jokes in a more detailed way- a rather long,drawn-out piece that leads you to the ultimate climax where thrill and suspense and humor is all found, rolled into one.

He writes. And writes pretty well.. And pretty hilariously.

On an average day,Ole Weru garners as many as over 5,000+ LIKES on a single post. And they’re all justified.

He has a solid fan base that just can’t have enough of his brilliance mixed with humor.

And he’s doing amazing while at it.

Phixx Tonito

One of the oldest Facebook Comics,Tonito didn’t start yesterday. He’s been funny for over five years now – and still,to this day,he is.

He’s one of the pioneers of Facebook humor club and he’s still going strong, still driving audiences crazy and still sending masses in hilarious hysterics years down the line.

He,just like Gikonyo and Muriuki, loves to deliver his punchlines in Sheng. And loves to draw mostly from an everyday Kenyan’s struggles and tribulations and turn it into a joke.

Known as Laptops Doc by many who’ve followed him for years,Phixx Tonito hails from Embu and boasts around 4,000+ followers on Facebook.

Unlike his peers,Tonito doesn’t update his wall daily and neither does he garner as many likes as some of his peers but still, his humor is not missing. Even with less than 100 LIKES.

There’s always something to laugh about on Tonito’s timeline. And you don’t have to search too much.

Dagitari Wanjohi wa Kigogoine

index.jpeg
He’s probably the most known of all these comics. He’s been in the trade longer. And no,he’s not in his early twenties (or even twenties) and still in college.

Wanjohi is an old cat. He’s been cracking us up for as long as we can remember – and he still does, almost a decade after he launched his brand and modeled himself as one of the funniest men we have on the Internet.

Wanjohi has even run an eponymous blog for the longest time, writing down his hilarious musings for his readers on a weekly basis.

There’s something special about Wanjohi – He doesn’t use much Sheng – or any Sheng – on his posts. Heck,he doesn’t even care for proper English.

Wanjohi has invented his own language – a messy mix of broken English and Kikuyu meshed into funny paragraphs that resonate best with Kikuyu readers.

He intentionally butchers the English language and spices it up with select Kikuyu words that send you flying to the floor in laughter.

Also, not a cosmetic lover of one liners, Wanjohi prefers to write out his jokes… Not just scream them,in a word-by-word direct Kikuyu translation.

With words and names like ‘Theuri’, ‘Nairobi of Up’, ‘Persons’, ‘Dogogio ‘ and’ small small ‘ you can be assured of a wholesome laughter-filled marathon.

Dagitari, as many of his followers love to call him, reminds you of the late Whispers Wahome Mutahi – Witty, observant, funny and with his own brand of language.

Oh,and just so you know, the man has amassed over 60,000 Facebook followers. Try topping that.

Obviously, there are even more funnymen -and women- across Facebook still doing their thing. From Tonny Ndung’u to Kevatin Muthaka to Anthony Muriuki to Wandia Wadear to name just afew.

And with these young men and women, you can be assured of having nothing but 101% entertainment on Facebook. Every. Single. Day.

PS: Wanjohi wa Kigogoine has the UGLIEST photos across the entire global internet. Dude, grab a smartphone and head outside. Your photos are terrifying. And horrific.

Is This The End Of Ababu Namwamba? Crowd Of AFC Fans Sing Dirge Songs For The Former Sec Gen (video)

Ababu Namwamba is a man under ‘sieke’ as former Inspector General Kimaiyo would elegantly quip.

He is in a party that he wants to leave and it wants him to leave but he cannot leave. He is accused to have been bought by a party that he wants to oppose and denies so cannot he cannot join them. At his backyard even in his constituency and the larger Luhya community his actions have been decried and he is viewed as a traitor.

As if to drive the message home a group of Luhya AFC supporters took to town after a match and went on singing a dirge song as some sort of premonition of the end of his career while also calling him cursed.

The crowd fully accompanied by Isikuti dancers rather confirmed what may fear that Ababu Namwamba’s move other than the alleged personal gain was not informed by facts on the ground. Here is the rather hilarious video:

If You Really Care About Kenyan Music, Then You Will Avail Yourself for This Dope Event at This Picturesque Location

“I hate Kenyan music, it’s so boring, it’s so mediocre, there is just no lyrical prowess, no message, no nothing,” That’s the kind of stuff your typical millennial will be saying at the bar before dancing to the latest song by Diamond and P square.

And then I will be there wondering where we went wrong as Kenyans? Why can’t we just support our own? I was in Tanzania a couple of years back and trust me the playlist in most clubs was purely Tanzanian, there was absolutely no room for the Kanye West’s and Rick Ross’s of this world.

Come to Kenya however and the playlist ranges from Trap, Nigerian music, some South African Hip Hop and that new beat by Wasafi. Probably only Bank Otuch by Octopizzo will make the cut.

Now I sit and ask myself how exactly we want Kenyan music to be standard if we don’t show the slightest intention to support it. How do we expect our artists to pull of some level of tenacity on the beat and finish it off with a kick ass video knowing very well nobody will watch it? How do you expect them to improve on their lyrics if you don’t offer any positive criticism whatsoever and all you do is bash? And lastly, how do you expect the international market to believe in us whilst we don’t believe in ourselves?

I’m no angel myself but I have decided to make the first step. I have decided to make it my mission to be attending all shows by Kenyan artists. I started off last week where I started off by attending a jazz night hosted by Chris Bitok at Kiza lounge before proceeding to the star studded Pacho party which was live at club romours.

Now next month, on the 6th just to be specific I’m attending a Mugithi night somewhere in the heart of magadi in an attempt to support my Kikuyu brethren. I’m asking you join me for a fun filled weekend full of great music, adventure and possibilities.

For only Ksh 14,500, you get transport to and fro including a train ride from Kajiado to Magadi, A two man camping tent, mattresses, pillows and beddings, Full Board meals and breakfast: Lunch, BBQ Dinner, and Breakfast. Wait, there is more. Magadi conservancy Entrance fees, Mineral drinking water and snacks in the train. These don’t forget are to be accompanied by a Mugithi Live Event ticket and we can finally get demystify this long held assumption about Mugithi nights.

After such an eventful event, you want to relax and unwind, you know rest easy. Does swimming come off as a great remedy for that? Of course it does so your 14,500 again secures you access to Magadi Sports club where you can get to enjoy a swim amid other co-curricular activities.

I know it’s pretty tempting so you are probably wondering if they have special offers just in case you decide to tag along all your friends. Guess what? They actually do. If you are 10 people for example, you get a live goat, barbeque spot and a Maasai chef.

They say change starts with you so join me and together let’s make a statement. Log into Lake Magadi Adventures for more.
