Ambassadorial role for Camp Mulla?

Ok so by now the news about Camp Mulla being nominated for a BET award is old news…

But have you taken time out to appreciate the implications of this Kenyan, nay, East African first? They have broken into the international scene (note to self, not African but international scene) and have taken it by storm. This can only bode well for Kenyan and indeed African artists& hiphop artists to be specific. This would be because for starters they will shine the international spotlight on the fledgling Kenyan industry.

Another way that their nomination will aid the Kenyan music industry is in way of collabos. Now that they will get to rub shoulders with all the who is who in the industry, they can organise a collabo with the likes of Jay Z who will be performing at the BET Awards. How do you think D’banj got there?

And we may just get to attract big name stars to perform here in Kenya, not just to come on philanthropic missions (not saying that this is bad though). I’m tired of hearing of big stars flying over Kenya to go perform in Uganda and Tanzania.

Think about it, this is a 1st aye and that is brilliant but just think of the possible ways the group can be Kenya’s ambassadors at such a huge global scale? Even the older generation has sat up and taken notice with the likes of Chris Kirubi joining in with the voices that are pouring out congratulatory messages and that says alot about Camp Mulla’s reach.

Pearls Of Africa – A Unique Portrayal of Kenyan Romance

Sharon Agina is one busy director, dotting the European and African continents producing and drumming up support for her pivotal film ‘Pearls of Africa’ which should be scheduled for release sometime  later this year.

In June last year, British actors Neil Reidman and Kevin Leslie flew into the country alongside actress Kenyan actress Lizz Njagah to shoot the film ‘Pearls of Africa’ which is a rivetting and passionate story based on real events.

The Plot Summary of ‘Pearls of Africa’ is as follows:

“Kenya in the late 1970s; the country is in a period of transition and recovery from the legacy of British Colonialism. Racism and prejudice are rampant between native Kenyans and white settlers.

Like most young women growing up in Kenya at this time, eighteen-year-old Tess Jagger leads a tough life. Tess however wants something different and, with the help of her mother, Minwa, and her grandmother Danni, fights for her and her sisters’ right to an education.

In the UK, twenty-year-old Aaron Rhys has just dropped out of university in London, much to the disappointment of his father, the British construction giant John Rhys. Aaron decides to go abroad to gain real experience of the world. He plans to work for his father’s most recent acquisition, the Road Construction Company, in the jungle of Kisumu, Kenya.

Tess’ and Aaron’s lives intersect and their worlds collide. Unaware of local custom and culture, Aaron pursues Tess. Then the trouble starts… with the whole community ranged against them.”

POA Final-691x1024

The award winning cast is sure to be some welcome spice to the feature, with Lizz Njagah currently based in Nigeria and a star on DSTV’s popular soap opera Tinsel. Neil Reidman has starred in productions such as Dr. WHO and Casualty.

DJ Mo Speaks About The New Attention He Gets

DJ Mo is a member of the System Unit Crew, alongside Alemba, DK and DJ Tabz. In a recent interview, DJ Mo was questioned about his origins before he made the leap to become a popular DJ. He said that he wishes that he could continue doing some of the things he could do when he was still an ‘ordinary,’ but unfortunately his circumstances prevent him from doing so.

 He said:

“People know me now and I have no privacy. There is also pressure to behave in a certain way and sadly, there are things I can no longer do because of image. I love chapo dondo but I cannot go to a kibanda and enjoy it because rumours will start doing rounds. The other day I went for chapo dondo and the people there were so shocked — they kept staring at me. It is crazy but I have learnt not to be rude — instead, I socialise but not to specialise.”

Insightful 56th Lola Kenya Film Forum Held

The 56th successive Lola Kenya Screen Film Forum took place this past Monday, 21st May 2012 at the Goethe Institut, bringing together a select group of people in the local film production industry to a discussion platform aimed at critiquing, encouraging and exploring ways of integrating film production in Kenya and Eastern Africa.

This month’s forum had a record number of over 40 attendees including friends and supporters of Lola Kenya Film Festival such as Filmakers Ibrahim Chelanga and Betty Caplan. Lola Kenya seeks to merge socio-cultural and economic sectors in order to come up with a vibrant film industry for not just the country but the region.

Ordinarily, short films from Eastern Africa are watched and discussed, ideas exchanged and the opportunity to network given, every last Monday of the month. This forum, an audiovisual event, is often one of the first places where new films can be seen and young talent spotted, as over the years over 100 films have been shown including Wanuri Kahiu’s film Just a Band: The Movie, which was recently shortlisted for the Hot Docs Festival in Canada.

At the edition, movies screened and discussed were ROCK SCENE (about Rock music in Kenya) and SPORTING WITH A PURPOSE (about a football foundation in Kiambu county set up to help improve the lives of teenagers). The moderator for the evening was Cecilia Wangare, a final year film production student at Multi-Media University in Nairobi, Kenya.

They are also members of the global Kids For Kids Festival (KFKF) community of filmmakers and educators that promotes audiovisual media content created by children for children.

For the 7th annual Lola Kenya Screen festival (LKSF) scheduled for the 6th to the 11th of August 2012, more than 300 entries have been received from countries such as Bulgaria, Australia, UK, South Africa, Philippines, Switzerland, Finland, USA, Croatia, The Netherlands, Turkey, Italy, Poland, Spain, Germany, Burkina Faso, France, Kenya, Egypt, Palestine, Slovakia, Ghana, Canada, and Venezuela.  The films shall go through our usual film selection process and the festival line-up announced in early June 2012.

Are you flossing FAKE Beats By Dre earphones? Here’s how to confirm

There has been a recent influx of Beats By Dre earphones on the streets of Nairobi, and no doubt some are counterfeits. Some of your friends might be flossing for you with fakes, or some street vendor might be pushing dodgy looking ones on you, so here’s how to bust them if they’re looking suspect:

 1. Price – The cheapest Beats By Dre earphones cost 150 dollars(Click here for evidence), which is about 14 thousand Kenyan shillings. Anything costing below that is probably a counterfeit.

2. Beats serial number validation – On the Beats by Dre website, there is a section that allows you to enter the serial number of the earphones you are about to buy and confirm whether they are original. Click here to access the section. If the number doesn’t check out, then they are definitely fake.

3. The authorised dealer list – The Beats By Dre website has a section where they have listed all the authorised dealers for their headphones. Click here to access the list. If the shop that’s selling you Beats earphones is not on that list, then your dealing with a fake.

Point 1 and 3 prove that most of the Beats By Dre headsets sold in Kenya are indeed fake. Are you willing to go the extra mile to get the originals? Leave your comment below.

Jacky B Says That Artists Can Hard To Work With

His name is Jacob Otieno, AKA Jacky B. You may have heard artists dropping the phrase “kwenye beat ya Jacky B” in his songs. In a recent interview, he revealed a bit more about his working history. Interesting details were spilled. He admitted that there are times when working with artists can be hard.

When asked about the challenges he faces as a Kenyan producer, he said:

“When you are starting out as a new producer, the biggest challenge is convincing artistes to give you a chance to produce their music. Lack of proper studio equipment and software is also a major hurdle, especially in Kenya. Handling artistes can also prove to be difficult sometimes. But music production requires determination, perseverance and hard work. One needs to be patient because it takes time before one can achieve a good sound. Do not lose hope.”

I wonder what artists will think when they see what their own producer has said about them!

Kanjii’s January Miracle

Earlier this morning, we revealed that Kanjii had made a big-time sacrifice for the sake of the Mavuno Church. The story has a really good ending. Here it is:

Kanjii said that after they made their donation to the Mavuno relocation, him and his wife had been hoping and praying for growth in their business, but could never have forseen the miraculous thing God was about to bring their way. Amazing doors of opportunity started to fly open, and within the first quarter of 2012, God blessed them so amazingly that, get this… their sales quadrupled! In other words, their sales volumes in the first quarter of 2012 surpassed their entire gross in the whole of 2011! All glory to God!

They were stunned!

Kanjii himself said, “How can one explain a four-fold increase in business other than a faithful God responding to the faith of His children?”

He continued, “The lessons my family and I have have learnt in this season could never have been taught other than in the school of faith. We realized that God means it when He says His ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:8). There we were trying to make our own plans and conserve our resources to take care of us, when all along God had much bigger plans. The huge take out for me and my family is that when God gives you the opportunity to do something big for God’s kingdom, do it! And do it without expectations that God owes you and will do something in return. Do it because it is the right thing to do, and watch as God builds your faith.”

DID YOU KNOW: Gospel DJ DJ Mo Was A Big Drunkard

DJ Mo is best known for being one of the winners of the Pilsner Mfalme DJ competition. His win was hotly opposed by some of the other DJs, who went to the media to air their complaints. He is also a member of the System Unit Crew, alongside Alemba, DK and DJ TabzIn a recent interview, DJ Mo was queried about his origins before he made the leap to become a popular DJ. He admitted that he was an alcohol tank during his gap year after high school.

He solemnly proclaimed:

“I stayed home for a year after high school — that was the darkest period of my life. I got involved in heavy drinking and women. And when I drunk, I would become violent and get into many fights. I would constantly sleep in the cells in Rongai because of getting into fights. My mum watched helplessly and didn’t know what to do.

I am glad she prayed for me and did not give up on me. I gave my life to God and I stopped partying. Around that time, God connected me with Daniel Masawi; he was involved in community youth initiatives. He began to mentor and guide me.”

Jacky B – “Music Producers, Go To School!”

His name is Jacob Otieno, AKA Jacky B. You may have heard artists dropping the phrase “kwenye beat ya Jacky B” in his songs. In a recent interview, he revealed a bit more about his working history. Interesting details were spilled.

The cool part was that this guy is not your typical self-taught producer. He went to a prestigious music school to learn his trade! He told the interviewer:

I studied music production at Groove Ryders Entertainment, a branch of Wynton House of Music in Nairobi, Kenya. I also had many mentors who helped me be where I am. I joined Groove Ryders Entertainment in 2008 and completed the course in 2010.

It is important that aspiring music producers go to school. Music production entails a lot of technical knowledge that you can only learn in school.

What Aren’t Prezzo and Goldie Telling Us?

Nigeria’s Goldie is a distraught lady today as she struggles to come to terms with the shocking news that South Africa’s Barbz handed to her ‘in confidence’.

With the rumour mill at the height of its production, Barbz tells Goldie that Mampi and Manetta aren’t too fond of her and think that she is ‘fake’. Goldie cannot comprehend why on earth the two would have such a low opinion of her and chooses to confide in Kenya’s Prezzo with all her troubles.

{youtube}i-enMeez25c{/youtube}

Goldie talking to Biggie about the possibility of Nomination

It seems Prezzo has toned down his drama abit; could it be because of the nomination process that jolted Upville back to reality from their first class treatment? Whatever it is, it’s working as the two housemates had a tet-a-tet in the confines of Upville Bathroom, springing even more questions.

“All fights in this House have been caused by Mampi and I’m so hurt, I don’t understand why the girls have this beef with me” Goldie lamented. Prezzo dismissed their acts saying Mampi and Manetta were just an emotional bunch because they had been nominated and it was expected.

Goldie proceeded to defend how she dresses (rather flashly) saying it makes her feel good about herself. Maybe that was the reason the housemates hated on her. Ghana’s DKB told her to dress the way she feels and Goldie with her golden heart even offered the others some of her clothes.

The fact that Goldie loves to hang around Prezzo added to the extravagant attire she’s accustomed to, may have rubbed the wrong way with the other lady housemates. If it came down to the wire, who do you think would get kicked out of Upville

Mercy Myra’s HUGE Risk Pays Off

Mercy Myra, the sexy Jaluo musician from Nyanza province, made a massive bet with her latest single. She went for the Latin American “Tango” genre.

The song I’m talking about is “African Tango,” the most recent release from Mrs. Attitude. This was the very first tango song by a Kenyan artist, and there is a well-known business saying for ventures like this:

“Pioneers get slaughtered, while settlers prosper.” – Daymon John

The meaning of this saying is that the people who are first to try something out usually get a poor response from the market, while those who try afterwards, will learn from the mistakes first made, refine the idea and profit off of it.

This didn’t apply in Mercy Myra’s case. Despite being the first mainstream Kenyan tango artist, her song, “African Tango” has done surprisingly well. It is currently the hottest Kenyan video on YouTube, amassing 23, 000 views in just two weeks! Check it out for yourself:

DJ MO – Ordinary Wa Ocha

DJ Mo is best known for being one of the winners of the Pilsner Mfalme DJ competition. His win was hotly opposed by some of the other DJs, who went to the media to air their complaints. He is also a member of the System Unit Crew, alongside Alemba, DK and DJ TabzIn a recent interview, DJ Mo was queried about his origins before he made the leap to become a popular DJ. He gladly admitted to having a farming background from the village.

His exact words were:

“I grew up in Nakuru and Nairobi. I am the first-born in a family of three; I have two sisters who come after me. I attended Maragua Primary School and later Lanet High School in Nakuru. During my high school years, I stayed with my shosho (grandmother) in Nakuru. So my childhood was a mixture of the village and town life. I appreciate the village life and I am a good farmer.”

Kanjii Reveals A Big-Time Sacrifice He Made For Mavuno Church

In a touching testimony, Kanjii exposed how he made a huge contribution to the Mavuno Church relocation project. Apparently, Mavuno have been planning for a big move from their current location to an extremely prime property just a few minutes after Mlolongo Town. The property is a 15 minute drive away from their current location at Belle Vue, and just 22.5 km down. It is located right next to the newly constructed interchange that connects Nairobi, Machakos & Kitengela.

They are moving for a number of reasons:

Mavuno came to the realization that their originally planned joint-venture at Belle Vue will not work. According to them, their rent has increased exponentially in the last three and a half years from Ksh. 200,000/= a month to over one a half million, and rising. In addition, they do not have a lease at the current property, an extremely risky situation that could mean Mavuno could get pushed out at any time with very little notice. This is a situation they were very fortunate to avoid at their last premises (South C Sports Club); where the club was sold one month after their move and all tenants immediately evicted.

In addition, astronomical land costs meant that the longer Mavuno Church delayed purchasing their own property, the longer they would be at the mercy of landlords, and the more expensive it would become in future.

When Pastor Muriithi gave the challenge in January 2012 about giving towards the relocation, Kanjii and his wife had no doubt that they were going to participate. The last time that Mavuno had relocated, Kanjii’s family gave, and what it did for their faith could not be quantified, so they knew they were in. The challenge was for one month’s salary, broken down over a four month window. But Pastor M proceeded to say something that really challenged Kanjii – he said he felt compelled to give his in one month and watch as God sorted him out.

That was such a huge challenge for the Mbugua family, and driving home, Kanjii and his wife left feeling we could do it in one month. However at some point, sense seemed to get the better of them – after all, it was January, a month when school fees had to be paid, not to mention a horde of other financial commitments. Four months seemed to make more sense than one. They soon reverted to the initial four month breakdown.

Kanjii admitted that he really didn’t know what happened next, because God just seemed to convict him to do it in one month. Him and his wife found themselves writing cheques. This was going to be a massive sacrifice, especially since for many businesses, and especially for those in the entertainment industry, January is a notoriously slow business period. Giving required serious financial re-organisation and spending adjustments – but they were committed, and went ahead to do it.

This guy produced Psalm 23 and Furi Furi Dance

His name is Jacob Otieno, AKA Jacky B. You may have heard artists dropping the phrase “kwenye beat ya Jacky B” in his songs. In a recent interview, he revealed a bit more about his working history. Interesting details were spilled. Concerning his producing acumen, he said:

“As soon as I completed my course in 2009, Wynton House of Music realised the talent in me and gave me a job as a tutor in music production and deejaying at the school. That marked the beginning of my career.

With time, I began recording my own music at the school studio and many artists began liking my work. I only record gospel music and I have had the opportunity to work with the best in the gospel music industry.

I have recorded big hits including Psalms 23, Furi Furi (both original and remix), Press on, and many more. Currently, I work at Lodwar Records, a professional music recording studio, located at Kileleshwa, Nairobi.”

Camp Mulla Face Tough Competition for 2012 BET Awards

Barely three days from their debut performance at the latest eviction party for Big Brother Africa Stargame in Johannesburg, South Africa, Camp Mulla have received yet another sterling boost to their 2.5 Flow rep by being nominated for a 2012 BET Award in the category ‘Best International Act: Africa’.

Following the release of the list of nominees, just over 10 hours ago on a special edition of popular American urban magazine show 106 & Park,  it was also announced that the host of this year’s edition of the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards would be celebrated African-American actor Samuel L. Jackson.

Click here to checkout Camp Mulla’s performance at BBA Stargame

Camp Mulla however face very stiff competition in their category, as they are up against other established artists from across the continent: Wiz Kid (Nigeria), Lira (South Africa), Ice Prince (Nigeria), Mokobe (Mali) and Sarkodie (Ghana). It will be no walk in the park for the winner as each of these musicians boast consistent and quality pedigree: the likes of Lira who is looking to launch and package her music in the USA and Wiz Kid who prominently featured in both the film and music video to Shuga: Love Sex and Money which has gone global.

Africa has been positively responsive towards Camp Mulla’s reccurent hits which include ‘Addicted’, ‘Party Don’t Stop’, ‘Fresh All Day’ (which they performed at the reality TV show Big Brother Africa recently) as well as their latest music video ‘Hold It Down’, already receiving international acclaim.

The BET Awards were established in 2001 to celebrate African Americans and other ‘minorities’ in a broad range of entertainment fields that include sports, music and acting. Last year’s winner of ‘Best International Act: Africa’ were Nigeria’s 2 Face Idibia and D’Banj.

The first confirmed performers for the 2012 BET Awards are Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj with artistes Kanye West, Jay Z and Beyonce leading the pack in the number of nominations received. The ceremony will be held on the 1st of July 2012 for seventh consecutive time at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California USA.

With heavy accoustic yet lyrically appealing beats that are the norm of any MDQ feature, ‘Vile Inafaa’ manages to fuse a feel good hood setting, street culture as well as a hip hop element that screams awesome.

Octopizzo’s queues are witty and precise and the effortless flow of the track makes it a winner, with Muthoni’s simple yet appealing fashion sense and raving mohawk and ‘Pizzo’s gangster aura.

Who is the hardest hitting Kenyan hiphop emcee?

Which rapper spits that fire?

Think about it, which Kenyan rapper has that gobsmacking flow, that ego crushing punchline and that crazy sick delivery?

abbas

Is it Abass? This rap legend has given us hit after hit after hit after hit each packed with wicked punchlines& has even owned some of the songs he was merely to guest feature in.

Octopizzo

Or could it be Octopizzo, the rapper who has been dominating the scene of late with his hard hitting pull no punches approach. Numba Nane’s finest has been throwing jabs at Abass as if to  his aggressive billing.

Juliani

Or let’s flip the script a little and include the gospel artist Juliani in the mix. Juliani has been dropping thought provoking lines consistently that transcend the genre attributed to his style and becoming simply referred to as conscious music that even those not of his religion can relate with.

KAKA SUNGURA

But for the cigars go to Rabbit. Kaka Sungura has been dropping that flame so much so that when Lonely Island, one of the musical groups with the biggest you Tube following came to Kenya to seek an emcee& flame thrower all rolled in one, they approached him! Nuff sed!

And just to show you that music transcends language barriers, the video he featured in is the most watched YouTube video a Kenyan emcee has featured in! BOOM SHAKA LAKA! Top that!

CONFIRMED: Big Brother Africa Peddling P**n On Their Website

Earlier today, my esteemed colleague, Kevin Oyugi, took to his computer to do a write-up of how he suspected Big Brother of selling p**n on their website. He claimed that he did not know what lay  behind the paywall that BBA have set up in their paid ‘VIP’ section.

Upon seeing that article, I was as shocked as anyone, and set out to investigate. Armed with a credit card, I went to the BBVIP address in order to pay for the content. But lo and behold! One does not even have to pay in order to know what lies beyond the dark corners of the Big Brother website. It is there in plain sight to the right of the page. There are several banners:

Untitled

They say:

LIVE SHOWER HOUR

CATCH-UP SHOWER HOUR

and BIG BROTHER STARGAME UNCUT

The first two are clear evidence of nudist, p**nographic material, which Big Brother are asking you to pay for. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to deduce what lies behind door number 3.

Secondly, I went to BigBrotherAfrica.com, the forum where BBA fans discuss the show. There are multiple posts, including this one and this one where people are discussing the p**nographic content they have viewed behind the paywall.

After all is said and done, is it worth it for Big Brother to sell their souls in exchange for a few advertising dollars? Leave your interesting or creative comments in the comment section below.

TOP TRENDS: #SHAKESPEAREGENGE

Twitter just got a whole lot (more) interesting today with the emergence of a trend titled ‘ShakespeareGenge’ a cacophony of humorous and witty ‘adjustments’ to Kenyan lyrics. Kenyans on Twitter went on a literal rampage with popular lines and lyrics that were given a ‘Shakespeare twist’.

If you don’t know William Shakespeare; well he was an English poet and playwright considered as the greatest writer and dramatist. He died in 1616. And there’s even a movie about him – ‘Anonymous’ that explores a conspiracy theory that he was not the author of his own famous works.

Back to the trend on Twitter… It all started with One FM’s presenter Marcus Olang borrowing a leaf from a twitter handle ( @ShakespeareSong ) that altered popular phrases into the lyrical English language flow of Shakespeare’s 16th Century.

Here’s a couple of tweets from the handle that should warm you up to the idea abit:

shake song tweets

#ShakespeareGenge radicalized this further with tweets such as:

@Dee_spicable: #ShakespeareGenge ‘Verily I say unto thee, I have traversed the Geographical demarcation’ – Jaguar, ‘nimevuka border’

Now you get the idea, don’t you? Enjoy a cross section of the tweets we picked up;

This is the best ever dis track

We have been seeing dis-tracks being released by our talented Kenyan artistes especially the hip hop artistes. Currently Prezzo and Jaguar

beef is the biggest, but Octopizzo and Abbas beef is sprouting up.

The best ever dis-track to be released on Kenyan soil was by Kleptomeniax which was titled ‘Tuendele’. The song was a dis track and the same time a club banger. The song was produced at Ogopa Deejays studio.

The dis track was for Chiwawa who by then had issues with Kleptomaniax for calling themselves rappers and yet their music was kapuka.

BBA STARGAME: SOFT P**N BY ANY OTHER NAME!

Is BBA peddling p**n and promoting sexual immorality?

BBA seem to thrive off showing people soft p**n. Why else would they allow people to see the contestants shag?

Don’t get me wrong i don’t care whether or not the contestants get their jollies off but i do care that they are being shown as they get down& down& doing the dirty nekkid nasty tango! I mean come on, in the least, give them their privacy or make it ridiculously hard for perverts to log onto your site to watch.

Yes, i said perverts because this is not an Anthropology study on Animal Planet! And given the fact that the show has just started things will only get worse! Ooops i mean perverts will get a field day as the contestants become randier and lonelier.

And just to throw a spanner in the works, is showing people have intercourse African? To the African man& woman, sex is a passionate affair that is done in private. BBA Stargame seems to want to pull an Usher a la “Sex in this Club”! Rooooooobish!

What do you think? Is BBA leading a sexual revolution of sorts or are they just enabling perverts? In all honesty i don’t want to be sitted in a matatu watching BBA clips and lo and behold a simple massage turns into kamasutra.

YouTube Turns Seven With a ‘Lighter’ Feature For Slower Connections

Yesterday, the world’s leading video sharing site, YouTube, turned a very healthy 7 years old, since being acquired by Google back in 2005.

The golden secret behind the success of this site is its dedication to user-generated content that gives everyone an equal opportunity to load up, listen and share whatever it is they like, be it music videos, film clips, audio content (accompanied by some graphic representation) as well as podcasts and a whole lot more. Youtube even made it to Ghafla!’s list of Top 20 Entertainment Websites in Kenya.

“The content industry is becoming increasingly diverse, and as we celebrate YouTube’s seventh anniversary, Google is happy to be keeping pace with the changing needs of Kenyan consumers, content creators and businesses,” Joseph Mucheru, Google Kenya Country Manager commented, “Since the launch of the Kenyan domain, we continue to see an upsurge in creative, informative and educative content go up.”

Last year, in October to be precise, Youtube launched a localized version of their global portal: http://www.youtube.co.ke at a more than colourful event at the Tribe Hotel in Nairobi, and saw dozens of musicians, celebrities and tech gurus attend the invite only affair. The ‘Kenyan’ YouTube concept was well received and has led to a massive increase of local content uploaded through channels such as Kenya’s leading media houses NTV Kenya, KTN Kenya and Citizen TV.

Competitions and Television shows such as Tusker Project Fame, MTV Shuga and even Big Brother Africa are also using YouTube as a media to connect with fans and keep them up to date with relevant content to their brand.
In addition to the standard YouTube experience, users also have the option to watch videos with a relatively new feature: YouTube Feather. This “light” version only includes the site’s most basic features, to help ensure that those with low-speed Internet connections are able to play videos play faster. YouTube Feather can be found in TestTube (http://www.youtube.com/testtube), the area on the site where new products are tested

Does explicity have to be part of Big Brother?

Big Brother Africa is known for all its drama, but they always try to censer whatever is being aired so that viewers will be spared to watch

obscene scenes, but this time round they didn’t.

bba

Viewers had to watch some fairly explicit video of Jessica being massaged by a fellow housemate, but it later turned to be a ‘’sex’’ clip. People may say that nothing happened, but if you carefully watch this clip then you not need to be explained anything further.

Could this mean that housemates are getting more intimate?

Just the other day, the same Jessica found a used condom in the Downvill lounge meaning that someone used it.  These housemates seem to be doing more than they should, although people would say that this is what they want to watch. If you are of that notion ”sex pays” then you will enjoy the explicit footage.

I hope that parents are taking precaution when watching Big Brother because these are scenes that small children should not be entitled to see.

Could Big Brother be Selling P**n?

Big Brother Africa Stargame follows in the footsteps of its predecessors as a source of both entertainment and realization… It happens to be entertaining because you are never short of laughs and surprises and it’s a relaization because you get to know the ‘real’ deal about people and how rapidly a clean cut public image can so comprehensively change to something else.

Romance is abundantly in the air with housemates such as Namibia’s Jessica getting her groove on, while Kenya’s Malonza is nothing short of a playboy, looking for love, or something like it. Drama in the Upville House is at an all time high with nominations of the celebs up for the first time and it looks like Zambia’s Mampi may just be going home!

Now, Big Brother has set up some exclusive screenings on a reserved section of the BBA Stargame sight and the question is, with things steaming up from a number of quarters, could this special BBVIP segment actually be airing all the raw and explicit content that the regular viewers can’t access?

The package, which costs the viewer approximately Kshs. 750 contains what BBVIP claims is ‘a live stream, from within the shower (Monday to Friday) only from the Downville house, exclusive video on demand clips, rant and rave sessions with the housemates, as well as web exclusive, uncut material.’

This exclusive section is available for the entire duration of BBA Stargame and is a one off fee to the web exclusive content. What else could Big Brother possibly be showing that he wouldn’t want the whole world to see?

Nairobi’s (In)Famous Graffiti Artists Turn Tail

A great philosopher once said that if you don’t stand for something then you will surely fall for anything. Well, after such a spirited fight that saw these group of artists go down the path that few chose to follow to express themselves through art and spread a relevant message, a number have turned tail and abandon their ’cause’.

At the helm of the artists who dared to fight corruption and what they termed as political oppression through thought provoking and distinctly clear graffiti on Nairobi’s streets and roads was the award winning photojournalist Boniface Mwangi.

A number of Nairobians considered the somewhat radical art to be quite attractive, both in the way the simple yet stinging message was delivered as well as impressed by the sheer boldness of the gesture. NTV even did a follow up piece on the effort the group of artists put into their work, night and day to come up with their final product.

Video on revealing the identities of the Graffiti artists (by NTV Kenya)

As expected, the City Council of Nairobi put up quite a fight, outrightly painting over the graffiti which was in more conspicuous corners of the city, as some politicians bayed for their blood: Boniface was even apprehended by the authorities at some point for ‘questioning’ as he confessed to being behind the team.

The 2010 CNN Mulitchoice Photography Award winner is a distraught man following the defection of some of his team mates towards ‘Team Vulture’ – the term used by the artists to refer to the political elite that choose to oppress Kenya for so long.

On his Twitter feed, Mr. Mwangi ranted and raved of how some are ‘selling their souls for money’ since they are ‘now working for the most corrupt, evil vultures campaign team’ (Kenya goes to the polls either some time late this year or early next year).

‘The people you are working for bled this country through corruption and you know it. Why do you want them to be president?’ lamented Boniface, going on, ‘We hustled together, cursed the vultures for ruining our youthful dreams. Now you have sold your soul to them? I’m shocked!’

boni tweet

The question then begs, would you fight for your cause unfalliably?

Is this what our musicians will do in order to appease the political class?

This is an election year in Kenya, but does this mean that our artistes should come up with songs that will impress the political class in order to

make extra cash from them?

We know artistes have made huge sums of money during the campaign period, but they have never produced songs that attack the other political side.

The same artistes are the people who helped to unite Kenyans during the post election violence in 2008, and their reasons were valid, but I got a chance to listen to this song by De Mathew and I was shocked.

If this is what our musicians will sing in order to impress our politicians, then our creativity is lost. Listen to De Mathew song and let us know how you feel about the song

Prezzo takes Kenya’s peace keeping mission activities to Big Brother house

Zimbabwean’s representatives in the Big Brother house exchanged harsh words to the extent that our representative, Prezzo was forced

to hold Roki back, and took him out in order to prevent a fight.

The two Zimbabweans Roki and Maneta had an altercation because the gentleman said something that made Maneta to tell him to stop gossiping, but Roki replied by telling her that she was stupid.

Roki accused Manetta of saying bad things about Zimbabweans and yet she is one of them. The two resulted into blaming one another for talking about other people in the house.

As usual a woman will always win when it comes to a war of words, and for this reason Prezzo decided to be more of a man by dragging Roki outside after the two Zimbabweans were a bit to close to each other.

This BBA Housemate’s Massage Turns Explicitly Sensual

The consequences of ‘locking up’ a bunch of healthy and energetic young adults together without any contact with the outside world may sound like a scene out of twisted reality TV show…well it is! It seems temperatures are reaching the boiling point as all kinds of emotions are heightened, including the the sexual.

Yesterday a used condom was discovered somewhere in the Downville lounge by a seemingly disgusted Jessica, but today things have changed, as the afterhours Big Brother camera grabbed some fairly explicit footage of the very same Jessica and what appeared to be a highly indulgent housemate.

Click here to read more on the discovery of an unused condom in Downville

A simple massage turned into a steamy affair steadily progressing into what some would term as the actuall act.

WARNING: The video may be mildly explicit.

Abbas replies to Octopizzo

Rapper Octopizzo has been dissing his rival rapper Abbas Kubaff. He says he knows nobody like him. The number nane king even released

a beef track titled ‘Njeri Doobeez’.

Everyone has been anxiously waiting for the king of beef, Abbas to reply, but this time round he did it in a more sophisticated way. Abbas decided not to throw hard punches on Octopizzo and instead said that the more evil his enemies intend to inflict on him is the more reason God blesses him.

It shows Abbas is trying to prove to us that he is out of the beefing industry. Check Abbas FB update when he was in Beirut, Lebanon

Blackstar involved in the Prezzo-Jaguar beef?

Maybe i’m jumping the gun but are Blackstar involved in the beef?

Thing is, at exactly 01:38 minute(s) into the track, Plan B shouts out Blackstar claiming that they are in on the collabo together with CMB. From what i gather, Blackstar probably just did the instrumentals and all this could just be hot air blowing through my ears but from my experience in hiphop and more so in beef, the warring factions do not big up anyone other than their allies.

Same questions were raised when AY featured on Jaguar’s track as the latter threw lyrical jabs at Prezzo. AY’s loyalty was questioned by Prezzo fans and self same way, Blackstar will find their loyalties coming up.

This is just my humble opinion.

The Greatest (Prezzo’s diss track) get’s Ghafla rated

After we iexlusively dropped Prezzo’s diss track “The Greatest” last night…

it’s time to put it under the scalpel, dissect it and study it under the microscope.

For starters let me say that i’m a huge boxing fan& hearing the sampled Muhammad Ali, only the 2nd greatest pugilist of all time was a treat in itself to me. The speech was a rhyme he gave to assert just how great he beleived he was& it is very telling that Prezzo picked this specific speech.

Right off the bat Prezzo goes in H.A.M attacking Jaguar for being outdated. The instrumentals are hiphop all the way and their is a fenale voice on loop singing in what sounds to be Gujarati and Prezzo slides in to start the hook announcing that he is the best, the greatest!

The lyrics tell Jaguar to keep his name (the former’s) out of his mouth and in verse 2 Plan B justifies his inclusion on the diss track accusing Jaguar of travelling up country but claiming that he was in Hong Kong. BOOM SHAKA LAKA! The gloves have been exchanged for gauntlets!

The instrumentals are good and the musical chemistry is present but at times the instrumentals clash with the vocals resulting in noise however this happens only once or twice so it shouldn’t detract from the awesome song. And as for ratings:

Longombas teams up with the fastest rising international star

Award winning group, the Longombas has teamed up with one of the fastest rising international star to drop their new single ‘Angel’.

Kanja, who is a Kenyan citizen, is the fastest rising star in America, but he also claims to be the African Music King. The song is a fusion of hip hop, reggae and R&B.

The song was recorded in the US, but they managed to give it an African feeling. The Longombas were able to show us that they can blend with any artiste especially after they did a collabo with Mr. Vegas.

BEEF: Prezzo’s new song a Jaguar diss track!

prezzo tattos

Jaguar, the biggest act in East Africa at the moment has been taking jabs at the absent Prezzo which have been connecting real hard but it looks like the undisputed King of Bling has been playing chess all along!

Prezzo has released a kray diss that goes in hard at Jaguar whom the former claims not to know. The track called “The Greatest” is right below.

Is the track a TKO?  You be the judge of that yourselves!

Another hot Kenyan reggae riddim released. This is the real deal.

Kenya is big on reggae, that much we all know by now. It is now evident by the number of riddims and reggae singles that the Kenyan reggae artists are now recording. Real music with real message (and not that which Omosh was talking about).

The biggest Kenyan reggae production house, Ark Angel records has once again made us proud in this genre. Their latest riddim, Jericho Wall Riddim, has seen many reggae artists converge in their studios and create these sweet track that are aligned in this medley.

The Jericho Wall Riddim Medley has some of the biggest Kenyan reggae artistes, among them, Fireson ‘Tha Bantu’, Freeman, Verbal, Pish and Junior Binghi, Singa Badz and Samukat.

Check out the medley below.
