Photo Gallery: How It Went Down at the Very Naughty Uninhibited White T-Shirt Party

The Uninhibited White T-shirt Party took place last week. The concept was for partygoers to show up at the venue in a white t-shirt and then mingle by writing on each others’ t-shirts with markers.

Well, that worked exactly the way it would if you gave the same concept to high school kids. The results were hilarious and it looks like everyone had fun. Kenya Nights’ Rizwan Ibrahim was at the event and captured the best of the naughty quips. Check out his photos below.

Check out the rest of the photos here.

Photo Gallery: Kalekye Mumo, Iddi Achieng’, Suzanna Owiyo and Others in a Real Fight!

The much awaited boxing fight among Kenyan women celebs finally went down yesterday at Crescendo Restaurant at Karen Plains Arcade in Karen to Raise funds towards the PamojaConje Initiative.

The mother of all fights was between Kiss FM’s Kalekye Mumo and songstress Iddi Achieng’. It was so real that Nonini described it as “By the way walikatana uwela-It’s like walikua na grudge!!!” Take a look;

The ‘Side Effects’ of the Phoenix Players starts tomorrow

They are known to come up with some of the funniest and most interesting plays in Kenya. Infact, they are the biggest in that sector of entertainment and tomorrow, they welcome a new play onto their stage.

Side Effects is the latest play from the Phoenix Players among many, and will be showing for the first time tomorrow.

The synopsis of the play goes something like this,

Frank cook ,having being taken ill with a rare complaint, has been booked into a private nursing home by his wife June for a week’s respite. Whilst there, he encounters the reverend Paul Latimer who  is recovering from a heart  transplant  and whose odd behavior is beginning to alarm his wife, Sarah.

The young attractive Tracey might provide the answer. She is convinced that the vicar’s new heart belonged to her recently deceased lover Melvin, a fairground “wall of death” rider. Could it be that  Paul has taken  on Melvin’s personality traits as well as his heart? That again . perhaps he’s just suffering from  the side  of his medication? Frank, ever the cantankerous septic ,  is delighted  by vicar’s fall from grace, while June does her best to rein in his detective work.

The play starts from Friday 5th October till the 20th of October.

Tickets for adults go for Sh. 650 and for students, Sh. 400.

Harry Kimani’s Freshest Single

We told you Harry Kimani is now reformed and ready to make a music comeback. Well, he has not disappointed. Harry has just released his latest single called “Nataka Kusema”.

Typical of his style, the Afro-fusion artiste has stuck to his slow and soothing type of music. “Nataka Kusema” is an easy listening type of track perfect for relaxation. Harry has also given it a refined jazz feel with his mellow vocals.

You can catch Harry Kimani live in performance on Sunday at the Blankets & Wine XXXVIII. But before that, listen to this great piece below;

Kidum Denies Reports That He Has Been Detained in Canada

Local media were early this week rife with rumours that Kenyan-based and Burundian musician Kidum was detained in Canada by immigration officials due to a row with his overseas tour promoter over royalties from his performances.

Kidum’s band member and spokesperson has since come out refuting the claims and terming them as “unfounded and baseless”. He further said Kidum was never arrested nor had his travel documents confiscated and that the singer would be back in Kenya by October 10. Kidum and his band are on a tour to the US and Canada to popularize his music when these tittle-tattles started.

Following his delayed return to Nairobi, organizers of the Blankets & Wine replaced Kidum with gospel rapper Juliani since he was set to perform during the 38th edition of the event this Sunday. Here is an excerpt of the statement;
“Due to unavoidable circumstances, we are sad to announce that the earlier advertised performance by Kidum at #Blankets & Wine XXXVIII has been moved to a future date. This has been occasioned by events beyond our control that have resulted in his inability to make it to Nairobi in time for the event from Canada where he is currently touring . We sincerely regret the inconvenience.”

I guess this puts an end to these rumours.

African King, Kanja is now in Paradise

Just a day after being featured in STL’s African remix of Stella Stella Stella, Kanja has dropped a new hot video and is already the top trending video in Nairobi.

Thought to be one of Africa’s biggest videos, Kanja features Naomi Wamboe, also a Kenyan singer based in the US, in this latest video to their hit single “Paradise”. The video was shot on scenic beach at the Coast.

Though still not that big in the Kenyan music industry, his respect in the game is well deserved. Kanja has already done a few collabos with a couple of big artists here that are soon to be released.

Finally, Kenya Gets It’s Own Chris Brown

He has that smooth RnB style mixed with some of those electro beats and the clutch-at-air motions. Not only that but Robbie’s new video also shows that he can gets down to doing one of those impromptu dance synchronizations after a chick turns him down.

The only difference is, Robbie is a gospel music artiste. A message from Zenith Productions about the artiste says “We want him to be the face of worship music in Kenya. Spreading the word of God is not all dance and praise. We have to take time and worship him.”

Robbie, a gospel music artiste from Zenith Productions, has finally released the video for his debut single, Took It All Away. The song has a unique sound compared to a lot of the new gospel tracks coming out now. He describes his work as “cosmic music with a message.” Check out the video for Took It All Away below and wait for 2:30 to see that dance routine.

Video: Old school meets new school in this gospel track

Don’t you just love it when a new school artiste does a collaboration with an old school artiste? Be it hip hop, kapuka, genge or even gospel. Whatever it is, it usually ends well, and this is no different.

Gospel artistes Mbuvi and kevo Yout have brought together their different tastes of music and made it one. Blending dancehall with the usual praise and worship is nothing simple to do, so we really have to give them their props on this one.

Mbuvi managed top come out vibrant and jumpy in this video just like his Kevo Yout is in every track he has done. Keeping it gospel all the way, these two may have just joined two very different generations.

Check out the video below.

Brenda Wairimu Featured in New York Publication

Brenda Wairimu is best known for her roles in MALI and SHUGA. The Kenyan actress has now been featured in the October issue of a New York City publication, Dream Big.

The same edition Ms. Wairimu appears on had Basketball Wives Miami star, Kenya Bell on the cover. The same issue celebrates cancer patients and survivors while promoting breast cancer awareness. All proceeds from the sale of the online and print copies of the magazine will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

You can read the Brenda Wairimu article here where it is on sale for $3.00. You can get a preview of the article by clicking on the leading image above. Read about Brenda Wairimu’s crazy stalking incident here.

Was Frasha’s hidden identity ever meant to stick?

When P-unit first came out to the lime light through the one and only Nonini, Frasha was this mysterious guy that everyone seemed to be talking about from the group.

His ‘hidden face’ identity in all their videos made him the centre of atrracion everywhere they went (shows, that is). He hid his face with reason that he was a doctor and didn’t want anybody, or any of his patients to recognise him, since that would make his work very awkward.

Shortly, he finally revealed his face and right now, very few actually remember this story. Frasha has even dropped his medical ambitions and decided to concentrate solely on music.

This just got me thinking, was this act meant to stick? Was it for real at that time? How in the world was he going to perform on stage?

Was this just a celebrity stunt, or the real deal? What are your thoughts on this?

Kleptomaniax’s Nyashinski still has it

Just when you thought that this guy is so far away from music as he is physically, he goes and drops one hot freestyle track just for you (the fan).

i love it how these rappers notice they are fading away from their fans’ memories and decide to freshen it all up. That’s exactly what Nyashinski has done and it has worked like charm. He is now fresh in my mind,. though he will have to do some more music before he is really back into the Kenyan music industry. Even though he is still in the US, he maneged to drop a freestyle track through sources.

Get it right here. Do you think he still got it.

Look-alike Photo: Ian Mugoya & Lenny Kravitz

One is a local TV presenter. The other is a famous rocker. Maybe the only thing they have in common is that they have both been models, and specifically known for their buff bodies.

It might not be so obvious, but at certain angles, the right stuble, and when the artiste cutting his usually wild hair, Ian Mugoya and Lenny Kravitz kinda look alike. Well, a lot of things have to line up for you to see it. Just click the photo to enlarge.

Dancehall artiste, Levysill puts up his lighter

Kenyan dancehall music is getting better by every other new production. First the quality of the sound improved, then the lyrics, and now the videos are better than how they used to be when they first started.

Singer Levysill has always stood his ground on Kenyan dancehall music even when critics claimed that it is not original nor does it have much fans here in kenya. Well, he has just proved them all wrong with his new track and video titled, ‘weka lighta’.

Weka lighta is all about the fire that burns withing one when he/she is in the presence of good music (dancehall music in this case). It is all about that energy that comes off from the crowd and artistes like these.

Checkl out the video below. Do you think Kenyan dancehall music has a future here.

Octopizzo now getting into the Pen and Pencil business

When I said Octopizzo is a businessman/rapper and not the other way around, I wasn’t joking around. This guy surely knows where the money is and exactly how to get it. He doesn’t play around with any opportunity of money making that comes his way.

After dropping the ivo Ivo Ivo track and its video, he shortly afterwards made a t-Shirt line out of it and sold quite a number in bulk. I constantly run into youth in the city donning these cool t-shirts. More money for Octo, yes Sir!

Now, he has set his eyes on another business opportunity that he is just about to exploit. Being the entrepreneur that he is, Octopizzo has now decided to join Stedler and BIC in pencil and pen production.

If you have been watching his progressing carefully, you would have noticed that most of his fans are still students. All these kids just want to be Octopizzo and dress like him. What better target for selling stationery to? He is right on point and with this, there is no missing the target.

The name of the stationery line has not yet been revealed as it is still under the works but all the information will be available here on Ghafla! as soon as it is up and running.

The first screening is set for Lubeck at Kino Koki on October 11 followed by screenings in Hamburg, Bonn, Koln and other towns before culminating on October 26 at the Passage in Leipzig.

Kayamba Africa’s founder and lead singer to tie the knot

Kayamba Africa are going to have a wonderful day full of festivities and excitement as one of their band members, who also happens to be founder of the group, is getting married.

Juma Odemba will be getting married to his long time girlfriend, Christine Kamiti at the Don Bosco Shrine in Upperhill. The after party will be going down at the Nairobi Club but don’t even think about crashing because this will be an invite only party.

It is good that our artistes are slowly slowly starting their families and giving rise to new born artistes. Just a few months ago, Collo welcomed a baby girl into his world and is already planning for her musical future. Ain’t this just exciting. Makes me wonder, who could be next? Maina Kageni?

Mbusii to host ‘Hangover Monday’

He is the little man with all the swag he needs (in terms of reggae lifestyle, that is). He is the ‘suffer’s’ favorite radio presenter and the most vibrant at it.

Ghetto radio’s Mbusii will be hosting the Monday event that makes it feel right to have a drink or two on this slow, tyring and boring day (Monday).

‘Kijana mdogo aliye na mapoz’ will be hosting the ‘Hangover Monday’ event which will be held at the Los B Sports Bar and Lounge, this and every other Monday. Brought to you by the Hakuna Mbrrrr entertainment, Mbusii brings Ghetto radio straight to the club.

Kambua Now Hosting a Radio Show

You last saw her on Citizen TV’s morning Gospel show, Rauka, where she was the host alongside Njugush. Well, now Kambua Manundu-Mathu is on her way back to mainstream media, this time taking up a radio slot on Hot 96.

Hosting Inuka alongside DJ Moz and the K-Krew DJs, the new mid-morning show is a Gospel program where listeners get a chance to listen to Gospel music for three-hour (between 11AM and 2PM) from Monday to Friday. Inuka is an inspirational and motivational show with positive energy and vibe to get you through the week.

Kambua who got married in April has been out of limelight for some time now and this is actually a re-union with the DJ unit, K-Krew. The show premiered on Monday and has been received well if the Twitter and Facebook response is anything to go by.

We wish Kambua and her colleagues all the best in their new show as the Gospel wave takes over.

Check Out MOG’s Hot New Video Featuring a Ballet Dancer

Local gospel trio, MOG, have released a video to their latest single, Money Money. And the video looks like it took a lot of Money to make.

Shot at an exquisite location, it features an unlikely performer: a ballet dancer. The members fit into the new location in their dapper clothes. MOG seem to be changing up to a more soulful sound and moving away from that ragga style. That is evident in this and their last song, Mwambie.

Money Money was produced by one of the best producers around, Dillie of Homeboyz Productions. MOG music is courtesy of Badilisha Mtaa Music. The video was produced by Ogopa. Former Crossover 101 host, Viyerrah makes a cameo. Check out the video below.

Juliani, Prezzo, Abbas and Bamboo to re-launch Pilsner in Nakuru

After Pilsner launched their new look, King Of Bold in Nairobi a couple of weeks ago, it now plans to head over to other cities and make an unforgettable and legendary launch just like they did at Prestige Plaza.

If you were there at the King Of Bold Launch, then you probably remember the electrifying and vibrant performance that the artistes present delivered. Bamboo, Abbas and Prezzo finished it off with what was the big three’s most exciting and reuniting performance. Then again, I wouldn’t hold it against you if you can’t remember all these. With all the free Pilsner beers that were going round, I’m actually surprised I remember.

This weekend, The King of Bold will be heading to Nakuru for a similar event. Re-launching this brand will mean an addition of a star to the stage. An increase to the attraction. Thus, Juliani will be joining Abbas, Bamboo and Prezzo on stage on this re-launch dubbed ‘PILSNER SHOWDOWN’. Just picture that. Buddha Blaze will still be reppin’ the mic as the MC of the night.

After the Nakuru concert, the Pilsner Showdown will wrap up the weekend in Meru where they will be doing yet another re-launch. This time, Jua Cali and Wyre will join the other rappers in what may now be called an All-Star performance. Prezzo will now be leading the launch.

I don’t think I have to describe to you all that you will be missing out on, should you choose to be absent on this Pilsner Showdown this weekend.

Makadem for tomorrow’s ‘Thursday Night Live @ Choices’

Another edition of the Thursday Night Live @ Choices is here with us yet again. Bringing us Neo Soul artistes live on stage, and even giving us a chance to interact with them after and before the show. This is one concert event you never want to miss.

This week, Club Choices will be bringing in the one and only Makadem, live on stage. The ‘Ohangla Man’ singer will be performing live this Thursday (4th October 2012) at the Choices Club in this weekly event dubbed ‘Thursday Night Live’.

The show kicks off at 8PM and ends at 11PM, no entry fee at all. See you there.

The Khaligraph and I.T video is finally out. Take a look

I had told you about this collaboration earlier on, I.T and Khaligraph Jones on the same track. You might remember I.T from Bamzigi’s hot track, ‘Sitaki’. If not, you’ll get to know him from this track with Khali.

As usual, Khaligraph Jones keeps it real, raw and gangster on this track titled ‘The Best’. The eloquent and consistent flow in which he delivers his lyrics are undeniably unmatched. Switching from English to Kiswahili in bar intervals, his clearly showcases his diversity in flow in different languages.

The video is nothing out of the ordinary but definitely enough to bring out the hip hop aura that Khaligraph carries around in every single track he is in.

I.T drops his set of bars in the last verse and this just convinced me that this collaboration is just natural.

Check out the video below and tell us what you think about it. Oh, and Moroko from Khalahari hip hop group makes an appearance in the video.

Has Bamboo Lost Confidence in Kenyan Producers?

The ever popular African Bantu aka Bamboo has for some time now been cozying up to Ghanaian born super producer Silvastone. Having worked with him on his track Tribal Dance featuring Isis, Bamboo seems to be heading the same direction again.

Silvastone is without a doubt one of the best producers in Africa considering his fast rising career success. The producer is not new to Kenyan musicians because apart from producing Bamboo’s song, he was featured in Wyre’s My Girl jam.

Lorna Irungu Pregnant (Photo)

You remember her from the famous Omo-Pick-A-Box show where she was the host. And most recently the former presenter came out publicly declaring her battle and consequent victory with kidney complicatons and lupus. Now that we are on the same page, it now appears that Lorna could be expectant.

Lorna who was recently at Pumwani Maternity Hospital in the company of NARC Kenya’s leader and presidential aspirant, Martha Karua, spotted what looked like a baby bump. However, Lorna has not come out to deny or confirm this rumour.

Well, until she does we will treat it as just that; a rumour.

Interview: Rapper-Turned-RnB Artiste Talks About His New Style

Right at the beginning of this month, Ndegz was unveiled as an artiste who is about to take over the Kenyan music industry. A few days before the release of Lift Me Up, he spoke to Adelle, his manager, about his new style and new track that is set to be the beginning of a musical revolution.

Adelle: “Are you rebranding? Are you switching up your style? Or is it just the same Ndegz that we heard on the Skamaress track?”

Ndegz: “I think what you go through as an artiste with every track that you make, you gain more of an identity. And I think I’m starting to gain more and more of that each and every song that I produce by the day. But for sure I think there’s a rebranding element to it simply because I’ve decided to fuse my music more with RnB and initially it was more hip hop, hard-hitting beats and now it’s mellow.”

Adelle: “Do you think it’s going to be refreshing in the Kenyan music industry?”

Ndegz: “Most definitely. I’m really excited to hear what Kenyans think about it first and foremost. Simply because it’s different?”

Adelle: “What is it about? Is it a personal story?”

Ndegz: “It’s called Lift Me Up, I think it’s a personal story for everyone. It’s the kind of song that everyone can relate to because you’ve been there at some point in your life. Lift Me Up is a song about having a bad day, a bad week, bad month, bad year. Whatever it is, you’re in a bad place. And it’s about finding or having that some one, or in my case, I’m talking about a girl.”

Adelle: “Hopefully. [Laughs]”

Ndegz: “Hey, no. So, it’s about a chick who when you’re in your lowest of lows is able to take you to greater heights and literally lift up your spirits and changes your mood completely. And so the first part of the song delves into that part of the relationship.”
