The guy who dissed Prezzo announces his next victim

He goes by the name of Lyon Cash and lately, he has made it his business to hate on some of our best rappers.

He has gone out of his way to compose really good diss tracks. The first one was aimed at the one and only El Presidente (Prezzo) and funny enough, the diss track got quite an audience.

It might be kinda lame to attack an already established artist and all, but you gotta admit the song was really hot, huh?

It seems that the rapper wasn’t too happy about a certain comment that Straight Up presenter, Miss Tamima made about him and now he is out to get her.

This is what Lyon Cash told Ghafla!Kenya this morning, “Tamima said I needed to stop rap if I couldn’t rap like Wiz Khalifa but I haven’t! Diss coming soon.”

Better watch out!

Interview: The Guy Behind the Faiba Adverts Explains How He Made Them

KenyanPoet interviewed the makers of the Faiba adverts, Fatboy Animation’s Michael Muthiga. In the interview, he explains how he conceptualized the ads that became a hit last year.

“I had the idea for this kind of animation, mainly the first advert episode a couple of years ago. They were all stuck in my head and all this time I was just practicing and trying to get my animation skills working right. Thank God at the right time I came across the chairman of Jamii Telkom, a very innovative guy and he asked me to make something in 3-D animation for him. So I went back to these ideas that I’d had all along and created them. Best client we have ever had due to the freedom of creativity that he allowed us.”

He also explains the challenges he faced coming up with the Faiba TVCs and other animations in general:

“Well, the main challenge is to come up with a good idea of a story as this has to be better than the previous one. At least we try. And well in the production theres always something new popping up that I dont know how to do. Like hair or clothes or wet hair, and I have to dig up some reasearch and come up with a solution quickly and meet the deadlines still. Then of course theres the kenya power blackouts which I think is a challenge for everyone else as well. It’s like they know when the deadline is, thats when there’s a power cut.”

Fimbo Ya Pili Artist Wins Top Award

It’s without a doubt that Fimbo Ya Pili/Chapa is a massive tune in the right now given the amount of airplay it gets from radio stations across the country. Recently, one of the contributing artistes in the song won herself an accolade at the Nyota Awards for her unmatched talent.

TL Moh won the Most Promising Artiste award during last year’s edition of Nyota Awards held at the Kenya National Theatre on 21st December. The 21 year old singer is signed to GrandPa Records and was one of the artistes featured in the hit, “Chapa/Fimbo Ya Pili”. In the video, TL Moh is the girl with a wielding a nyahunyo (whip).

Aside from that, she has another song, “Madeni” which marked her debut into music. Also produced at GrandPa, the song is laidback and has a touching storyline. Going by the two songs, TL Moh rightfully deserved the award and will surely scale greater heights if she keeps up the same tempo.

Check out “Madeni” below;

5 Incredibly Silly Kenyan Songs That Eventually Turned Out To Be Massive Hits

These are the tracks that made you go WTF at first, then slowly but surely you came to love them.

1. Fimbo ya Pili

“Nye nye nye, hatutaki nye nye nye, ukileta nye nye nyeeeeee… fimbo, CHAPA!”

First time we heard this song at the office, we had a baraza at the office, with DNA’s sister, Tina Kaggia, in attendance. We grilled her and asked her, “What the hell was your brother thinking?!” We were so wrong. The market spoke, and the song was incredibly well recieved, even growing on us eventually in the office.

2. Manyake

“Manyake, kama priizes, manyake, ka balloon zina maaji, juala ndio unahitaaji!”

This song was so bad that producer Clemo admitted to how he had to remaster the song severally just to get something coherent out of Circute and Joel. All the effort paid in the end, as the controversial subject matter of the song got tongues wagging, leading to massive airplay on the radio and in the club.

3. Kinyaunyau

“Onyango shika dame, kamata… HA… iyee mama!”

What a childish song with nonsense lyrics, right? WRONG. This song was so big, it spurred Wahu into crafting a song in response to it. That’s the only time that has happened in Kenya.

4. Boda Boda

“Nitado-warr? Nita-ride boda boda, nita-ride boda boda!”

Madtraxx debuted on the Kenyan music scene with the silliest lyrics he could come up with, and a dumb-looking dance to boot! A HUGE risk that paid off in the end, as “Boda boda” became a smash hit that year, and Madtraxx has ridden the wave ever since, becoming known for having silly, yet fun tracks.

5. Vaseline

“Napenda vaseline, napenda vaseline, mi napenda vaseline!”

Walanguzi’s raunchy spin on Rick Ross’s “Hustling” would have been deemed way too over the top on the first listen, but eventually what happened was that college students really took to the parody song. Perhaps a reflection of their real life activities, eh?

Kenya’s King of FB Declares Interest in Representing Kenya in BBA8

With news that auditions for this year’s Big Brother Africa set to begin this January, I guess a lot of guys are bracing up for that. Kenya’s King of Facebook, OJ Oballa, has become the first person to declare his interest in representing the country during the eight season of Africa’s biggest reality show.

“I declare my interest to represent my Country in this year’s Big Brother Africa show set to start in May,” posted the FB King. He even went further to ask how many of his fans would support him and the response was amazing. If the number of likes (over 62,000) on his page is anything to go by then he’ll sure get massive support if he makes it into the house.

Last season of BBA saw Kenyans show enormous support for Prezzo for the entire 90 days and eventually came second losing to South Africa’s Keagan.

Kenrazy’s girlfriend, Sosuun denies quitting music

Kenrazy has just announced that he will be releasing his last single very soon. He is about to hang the boots on music and focus on other projects.

This has led to many of Sosuun’s (Kenrazy’s girlfriend) fans’ curiosity about whether the lady rapper will also be quitting music. I don’t see why that would be, but as expected, this has really ticked off the rapper.

Sosuun took her concerns to facebook and made it clear to her fans that she is not about to go anywhere anytime soon. That she is just getting started and Kenrazy’s decision does not in any way affect her music career.

“Why is everyone asking me whether am quitting music??? Is it because KenRazy said he’s quitting? Noooo! I am just getting started and I haven’t accomplished my goals in the industry so give a girl a break and keep showing support!” she wrote on facebook.

Avril vs. Marya vs. Size 8. Who has the best body? (POLL)

Body competition!

It’s actually shocking to me that no-one has come forth to finalise this pressing issue of who’s body is better between these three divas. But since I am a go-getter , I will take this big responsibility and do my best. Here goes:

Avril

OK, first we have Avril, who has that apple shape going on. She’s the petite kind of chic, the type that college peeps refer to as “laptops.” Here is a photo for you to judge:

avril_kenya_482639221.jpg

Marya

Marya has a similar body shape to Avril, only she has a slightly bigger frame. If you are not a proper consumer of ugali, you might not be able to handle it. This is what I’m talking about:

Marya2

Size 8

The name says it all. Size 8 is a “ka-slim” compared to the “colombos” mentioned above, if you know what I mean. She’s for those who prefer the model type:

This is How P-Unit’s & Collo’s You Guy Was Pieced Up (Video)

Arguably the biggest song in 2012, “You Guy” video came out towards the end of the year and guys loved it (or is it the dendais in it?). Well, I came across the behind-the-scenes video of its making and I must say “the fantastic four” gave it all their best.

Directed by Claire Ash Meadow and the great Clarence Peters, this clip reveals all the nitty gritty that made it a superb masterpiece it is; from the ladies’ accessories to Collo’s clownery. As the boys and the video vixens enjoy themselves, the guys behind the camera capture all the action.

Check out the video below to see all the parts that were not shown in the video;

KenRazy to Release His Last Song Ever

Ghipuka pioneer, KenRazy, has announced the release of a brand new track. Might not be much of big news considering at the peak of his productivity last year, he would release a new song almost every week.

But this, as KenRazy announced, will be his last song. Titled ‘SH2QA’, the rapper’s latest single is expected to drop on the 13th of this month (1/13/13). The single and video are both expected to come out on the same day.

THIS WILL B THE LAST SONG U HEAR FRM ME! #SH2QA DROPPING JAN:13 :13 ON “KENRAZY TV” [youtube] itashtua wengi,” he told fans on his social networks.

Just a few weeks ago, the former Jomino signee and now Pacho Bomba star, released the video for Kura Burndem, a follow up to some of his biggest hits: Tichi, Rudia and Ashu Kwa Ashu.

Why Huddah Monroe Deleted Her Twitter Account

A couple weeks, socialite Huddah Monroe was on TV for the first time, doing an interview for the talk show “Straight Up.” It was notable how awkward the whole situation was during the interview, especially given Huddah’s history with the talk show’s host, Ian Mugoya. Anyway, after the show was done, Huddah went ahead and committed Twitter suicide, deleting her account.

I gave her a call today morning to ask her why she did that. Here is the convo:

Me: Good morning Huddah, blah blah blah… did you delete your Twitter account cause of the Straight Up interview?

Huddah: What? No! How will that interview even help me?

Me: So what was the real reason?

Huddah: I was on holiday with my boyfriend. We were going to many places and didn’t want any disturbance.

Me: So now your back on Twitter again. Why the reversal?

Huddah: My plan was to be out of Twitter for good, but people close to me insisted I get back. Plus with all the parody accounts that were being created… sh*t no bueno!

Jua Cali to Finally Get Married

Jua Cali, in a phone interview with Mambo Mseto’s Willy M. Tuva yesterday, spoke about his journey in music, artistes who left Calif Records and even spoke about marriage.

“Ushaoa? (You married?)” the Citizen Radio and TV host asked. The Genge artiste laughed tittered a bit before finally answering, “Hiyo swali ni nugmu. Wacha niseme hivi, itafanyika hivi karibuni. (That’s a hard question. Let me say this, it will happen soon).”

“Mwaka huu, ama? (This year?)” Tuva sought clarification. “Kabla 2013 haijaisha itakuwa ishafanyika (Before the end of 2013),” Jua Cali assured him.

Open Letter: A Response To All Octopizzo’s Haters!

I’ve been noticing a rather alarming trend of late. Everyone plus their aunties wants to take shots at Numba Nane’s finest!

It would seem everyone and their aunties have some sort of beef with Octopizzo. When underground artist Cabu Gah wrote an open letter to Octopizzo, he was expressing himself and that’s all fine and dandy like unicorns and rainbows but what left me gobsmacked was the support his action garnered. Everyone crawled out of the crevices they’d been hiding in and commented on the article talking alot of defecate about Octo.

From illuminati allegations to homosexual slurs. From bile to piss to venom. The comment section wasn’t short of witches brew! And to be honest I am confused. I thought that people would really rally around Octo who has such a remarkable tale of rags to riches that I felt alot of people could relate to. He epitomizes hardwork and initiative which should be a stellar lesson for youth everywhere. But I was dismayed to see everyone cheapen his blood sweat and tears! His struggle to leave the slums of Kibera behind and provide comfort and luxury not just for himself but for his loved ones as well.

With that said, I figured I should respond. If he won’t then he may as well do with a champion. I could tell all of you to jonze off. But that is too simple. Let me start with Cabu Gah. Record the song. Keep your beef with Octo off the net and in songs. Channel your beef and let it fuel your creativity. Record the song. You can’t expect anyone to take you seriously if you post letters and lyrics with no song. Gain some traction.

And for the rest of you. Stop singing that same monkey’s chorus about illuminati. What in the glorious sun’sname is illuminati? Do your parents belong to it? No? Then shut up. Your ignorance is polluting the air. I’d much rather catch whiffs of your nausea inducing farts! Why you dey lookoo looko am business? You fit keep eye off Octo’s affairs. Keep your mind on what affects your rate of respiration. Whether it be passing exams or making money. You look like fools talking about things you do not know or understand. And on that note, I will dispatch the next fool to call me asking how to join the illuminati from the land of the living! Leave dis place!

Stop talking about gay men too! unless you bite the pillow how would you know who is gay and who is not? And on that note where did this notion that homosexuals are weak come from? They have things shoved where they should not and smile like they are having fun! That takes infinite strength and tolerance to pain! And unless you’ve been to bed with a man, how do you know whether they are gay? Nonsense! Leave dis place!

<Your words stink!>

Octo, keep making music, keep making money. Keep doing what you have to to ensure you provide that luxury for your daughter and those around you. Empty debes make the most noise they say. Ignore all the murmurs from those jealous of the fact that you had the to pursue your dreams! Make more music!

Ringtone Makes a Joke about a Lady on Facebook But It Goes Horribly Wrong

Gospel singer Ringtone came under fire over the weekend when he made a statement (which he later claimed was a joke) about a certain lady he met in town. After posting a photo of himself with the lady in question, Ringtone captioned this; “I met this lady in Nairobi city CBD she told me she loves my music and would like to get married to me but I refused and told her if she wants to be my wife she has to sell all her wealth and give to the poor then come to be my wife.”

And that’s when all hell broke loose. Apparently, majority of the people did not this politely and resorted to venting their anger on the “Pamela” singer. Realizing that he had made a “mistake”, Ringtone issued this apology, “AM VERY SORRY TO ALL THOSE PEOPLE THE POST HAS HURT.YOU MY FANS AND SUPPORTERS I CAN NEVER WANT TO HURT YOU.I WAS ONLY TRYING TO MAKE A JOKE WHICH I THOUGHT WILL BE FUNNY BUT I HAVE REALISED IT OFFENDED YOU.POLE ONCE AGAIN”. However, that did not put an end to it as the vicious attacks kept trickling in minute after minute and a spot check revealed that some people were still hurling insults as at two hours ago.

I think Ringtone saw that this was not going to end and so he requested those people who did not like what he does to unlike the page. “I WANT US TO PUT TO AN END THIS ABUSES,IF YOU MAY HAVE LIKED THIS PAGE BY MISTAKE KINDLY HUMBLY UNLIKE IT AND GO IN PEACE.I PROMISE YOU THAT IF I NEVER DIED ON THE STREET SUCCESS IS MY PORTION IN JESUS NAME.I RELEASE YOU ALL HATERS NOW DONT SAY ANYTHING AM HUMAN AND I NEED LOVE,” posted Ringtone on his fanpage.

Jua Cali Addresses the Artistes Who Ran Away From Calif Records

Jua Cali was interviewed on Willy M. Tuva’s Mambo Mseto show on Citizen Radio show today where he spoke about his upcoming singles, albums and addressed the issue of the artistes who have been leaving Calif Records.

“Kama msanii ni professional, mtu anajua pahali anaenda, most of the time utapata huyo ni msanii mtulivu, hana pressure. Anakuja studio anamaliza ku-record, anapanga video yake. Kuna msanii anaangilia angalia nje sana, hayuko mtulivi, hao ndio hutoka. Calif tunataka professionalism. (If an artiste is not professional, knows what direction he wants with his/her music, they’re usually focused. They come to the studio, record and plan on their videos. There are non-focused artistes and those are the ones who leave. At Calif, we appreciate professionalism.”

The radio host asked what he thinks the real problem is and he responded, “Tatizo ni hawa wasanii si watulivu. Msanii ametulia ni Mejja. Anakuja studio ana-record na maisha inaendelea. Wengine three months hawajaonekana studio. Unampigia hata hujui mahali yuko. Kwa hivyo msanii kama huyo hata akienda ni sawa tu. (Problem is artistes are not focused like, say, Mejja. He comes to the studio, records, and life goes on. You don’t see some artistes in studio for three months and you don’t even know where they are when you call them. It’s better for an artiste like that to just leave.”

Artistes who have left Calif in the last couple of months include Qty, Kendi, Qtasi and just last week, Si-So, among others.

Rabbit, Juliani and Didge on the same track? Yap! Check it out

The new year is off with a good start. More marvelous collaborations are happening in the music industry and it is about time before a huge hit gets 2013 moving.

Efforts of creating hits are now noticeable with the artistes doing bizarre stuff on their videos and composing insane yet entertaining lyrics. Some hits are however just attained from the collaboration of great artistes.

Take this new song by Rabbit, Juliani, Braso Smalls and Didge for instance. Doesn’t that just spell out ‘H.I.T’ even before listening to the track? Come on, you know it does!

Juliani with his infectious flow and catchy lyrics and punchlines, Rabbit with his strong presence and captivating story telling character, Didge and his… well, don’t even get me started on Didge’s vocals. The whole of Africa witnessed that on International television. About Brasso, to be honest, I think this song is his to shine with.

The song titled ‘Uhuru’ sings jus about that, freedom and should be, according to me, the anthem for the approaching couple of months.

Have a listen below.
